We learned early that we fans will no longer be able to call ourselves P1s when it came to the new Mikey Show.  This was a very sensitive topic on the message boards and with Mikey and the new show itself.  Change is hard, but we were so excited about the new show many of us were willing to roll with the punches.  Thus, a new questionnaire was formed to vote on what we fans should call ourselves.  Meanwhile the Mikey Show was firing on all cylinders, with Woods busting out “Delicious Soldier” as a new name suggestion.  Then Woodsie introduced us to an obviously stoned Dave Matthews, who Mikey kept saying “smelled like pot”.  Classic radio.  Dave Matthews stole the show this morning.  Lastly, like the great diplomat he is, Mikey won over a few angry longtime 94/9 listeners who missed “the music” by using clear and simple logic.  Sienna’s “grandma” called in which resulted in hilariousness.

Mikey and the new crew settled into FM 94.9 while turning a lawyer's ban on the old P1 listener name into a campaign to create an even stronger M1-style community. They mixed odd news and moral argument, reacting to giant squid off San Diego and condemning missionaries who tried to move Haitian children without documentation or certainty that they were orphans. The show's biggest comedy came from the disgusting Q-tip game, Lauren's saucepan debate, a chaotic fake Dave Matthews appearance, Woodsy's four dressed-up Yorkies and Jenny's implausible Tiger Woods story. More seriously, Mikey defended the station's new talk format to caller Joe and shared the honesty and active-listening rules that helped him and Rebecca fight more fairly.

What happened, in order

  1. Mikey's exact-label compulsion

Mikey explains that even changing a computer label from 'Mikey Show Opening' would leave him so uncomfortable and disoriented that he might not recognize the file.

  2. The P1 name is forbidden

After lawyers bar the show from calling its listeners P1s, Mikey rallies the audience to build an even stronger community under a new name such as M1 or the Mikey Militia.

  3. Giant squid invade San Diego

The crew reacts with fascination and disgust to reports of 20-to-60-pound squid washing ashore and inspiring local twilight fishing trips.

  4. Missionaries remove Haitian children

Mikey, Sienna and the crew argue that good intentions could not justify ten American missionaries trying to take 33 undocumented children from post-earthquake Haiti when some parents might still be alive.

  5. The revolting Q-tip choice

The new 'Would You Rather' game makes everyone choose between sucking a Q-tip swabbed in a stranger's ear or one swabbed in a deep belly button, with Woodsy nearly alone in choosing the navel.

  6. Chili pot ethics

Lauren's effort to avoid wasting water sparks a comic argument over whether eating turkey chili straight from the saucepan is sensible conservation or unacceptable adult behavior.

  7. The open-email dilemma

A listener who snooped in her boyfriend's email finds a cryptic message from Alexis, prompting Lauren, Sienna, Mikey and Woodsy to debate privacy, trust and whether ignorance can ever protect a relationship.

  8. Dave Matthews loses the plot

A fake, apparently high Dave Matthews repeatedly calls Mikey the wrong name and performs obscene 'original' lyrics despite being warned several times that he is live on the radio.

  9. Talk radio enters the music station

Caller Joe challenges the loss of morning music, and Mikey says listeners are right to resent the format change but should blame station management rather than the new show's staff.

  10. Rules for fighting fair

Mikey shares the counseling rules that improved his marriage to Rebecca: be honest, describe your own feelings instead of assigning someone else's, and practice active listening by repeating a partner's story accurately.

  11. Woodsy's four Yorkies

The crew roasts macho, tobacco-dipping Woodsy after he reveals that his four tiny Yorkies sleep on the bed and wear outfits, including Yankees jerseys and a Notre Dame cheerleading costume.

  12. Jenny's impossible Tiger Woods weekend

Caller Jenny insists she spent an intimate weekend with Tiger Woods until the hosts point out that he did not play the local tournament and was reportedly in rehabilitation elsewhere.
