Mikey doesn’t want any Dale’s mixing with his Basque. The OB bumper sticker against the bums bums Mikey out. The taste test begins and Woodsy’s Dale’s sauce is a big hit, even Mikey admits he likes it. LOB thinks about trying the steak, and then decides to stick with the chicken. Lauren O'Brien recounted surviving severe stage fright at the Comedy Store, and caller M1 Megan then impressed the crew with an impromptu opera performance. Mikey and Woodsy covered Barack Obama's removal of Stanley McChrystal, John Eisner and Nicholas Mahut's marathon Wimbledon match, and Ona's improbable underwater-tractor plan for plugging the BP oil spill. Sienna, Woodsy, and Lauren argued over Miley Cyrus, Khloe Kardashian, and Lady Gaga, while Mikey made a serious case against Ocean Beach's anti-homeless stickers. The show also warned caregivers about California's whooping-cough outbreak, staged a Basque-versus-Dale's barbecue contest, and turned an awkward stuffed-animal hookup story into confessions about the hosts' own comfort objects.

What happened, in order

  1. Lauren Fights Stage Fright

Lauren O'Brien described shaking, getting cottonmouth, and briefly blanking during her ten-minute Comedy Store set before improvising her way to the finish.

  2. McChrystal Is Out

The show unpacked Barack Obama's acceptance of General Stanley McChrystal's resignation, David Petraeus's nomination, and the argument that a commander cannot publicly undermine civilian leadership.

  3. The Endless Wimbledon Match

Woodsy marveled that John Eisner and Nicholas Mahut had reached 59-59 in a fifth set after ten hours of tennis and still had to return to finish.

  4. The Celebrity Panel

Sienna, Woodsy, and Lauren debated Miley Cyrus's sexualized image, Khloe Kardashian's $400,000 gift to Lamar Odom, and Lady Gaga's attention-seeking behavior at baseball games.

  5. Ona Solves the Oil Spill

Sienna said her elderly great-aunt Ona ordered Buck to send newsrooms a plan to bury the BP leak beneath a mountain of sand delivered by underwater tractors.

  6. Red-Light Turndown Music

The crew confessed which guilty-pleasure songs they turn down at red lights, ranging from Paul Davis and the Carpenters to Bryan Adams and Culture Club.

  7. Opera at the Red Light

Caller M1 Megan demonstrated her classical singing live and agreed to return for a bit performing pop songs such as Lady Gaga in an operatic voice.

  8. Whooping Cough Warning

Sienna reported a sharp California rise in pertussis cases and urged parents and caregivers around infants to check whether they needed a booster.

  9. The Marinade Showdown

Mikey and Woodsy grilled tri-tip and chicken with Basque and Dale's marinades, then a blind studio vote narrowly favored Mikey's stronger Basque flavor.

  10. Please Don't Feed Our Bums

Mikey rejected Ocean Beach's mocking anti-homeless stickers and argued that fraud by some panhandlers does not justify treating genuinely homeless people without compassion.

  11. Stuffed Animals in the Bedroom

An email about a woman carefully naming and shelving her stuffed animals before a hookup led Jay and the others to confess their own childhood comfort objects.

  12. Laughter Through Grief

M1 Nikki called after her grandmother died to thank the show for making her laugh through a lonely night, and the hosts offered sympathy and reflected on loving their work.
