San Diego wildfiresmandatory evacuationspet rescuesevacuation sheltersdisaster leadershipmedia prioritiesvolunteer firefighterscommunity aidwildfiresandiegoevacuationfirefighters
Mikey described a firefighter confirming that flames were three miles from his home, an evacuation order turning mandatory within ten minutes, and the scramble he and Rebecca faced getting Jules, Ginger, and Sydney out. Skye insisted that she and her husband leave rather than gamble with their lives, then mocked his evacuation priorities after he packed binoculars but left their wedding albums. Steve, P1 Shogun, Adam, Taylor, Jeff, and AJ showed the human response through shelter work, worry for a firefighter mother, volunteer firefighting, and the rescue of two goats. The show also argued that San Diego deserved more attention than celebrity-heavy Malibu, questioned whether Jerry Sanders and FEMA could avoid Katrina-style failures, praised Arnold Schwarzenegger's hands-on nursing-home response, and heard Larry Himmel explain how he watched his own house burn.
What happened, in order
The Fire Was Three Miles Away
A firefighter confirmed to Mikey that the wildfire was only three miles away and moving directly toward his home.
Mandatory in Ten Minutes
Mikey and his neighbor Mark chose to stay under a voluntary evacuation order, only to hear it become mandatory ten minutes later.
Wrangling the Cats
Mikey and Rebecca evacuated cats Jules, Ginger, and Sydney while joking about their wildly different reactions to the frantic escape.
Binoculars Before Wedding Albums
Skye overruled her husband's wish to wait for an evacuation call, then discovered he had packed binoculars while leaving their wedding albums behind.
Evacuees Needed Company
After a 36-hour medical shift at Qualcomm Stadium, Steve said evacuees needed blankets and supplies but also conversation, cards, and chess to ease the uncertainty.
San Diego Versus Malibu
Mikey argued that national coverage overemphasized celebrity-heavy Malibu even though far more people were suffering in San Diego.
The Katrina Leadership Test
The hosts argued that the disaster would define Mayor Jerry Sanders and debated whether local, state, federal, and FEMA coordination would avoid Katrina-style failures.
Schwarzenegger Takes Charge
Arnold Schwarzenegger described finding 300 evacuated nursing-home residents without anyone in charge and staying until ambulances and hospital space were secured.
A Firefighter's Worried Son
Caller P1 Shogun thanked the fire crews while admitting that he had not heard from his mother on the Witch Fire crew for several days.
Taylor and Jeff Saved Three Homes
Adam said volunteer firefighters Taylor and Jeff jumped into their car, extinguished Poway spot fires, and saved his father's home along with two others.
Larry Himmel Watched His Home Burn
Reporter Larry Himmel used his press credentials to reach his neighborhood and watched his own house burn, saying certainty was better than not knowing.
Hay for Two Rescued Goats
AJ had rescued 250-pound and 60-pound goats from Rancho Santa Fe and asked listeners to bring hay to the Mira Mesa evacuation center.

Broadcasting from the Cricket Wireless Studios. This is the official home of the Mikey Morning Show. We all pick our nose. No, we don't. Not all of us. Eat stuff. I'm going to eat it. KIOC San Diego's Rock. 105.3. Let's try to make this as normal as we can, given the circumstances. It is 6 a.m. Because of the fires burning in Southern California, the president declared a state of emergencies in seven Southern California counties, including San Diego. The Chargers were forced to move their practice to Phoenix due to the air quality. No word yet on the game on Sunday if it's going to be moved or not. Yeah, I heard they're having a hard time figuring out where to play the game. Well, you know, I mean, it's not going to be at Qualcomm. There's just no way. There's too many people evacuated there.
What I heard is it's maybe going to be at Arizona State, somewhere like that. So we'll have to wait and see. Really a beautiful stadium, that Sun Devil Stadium. Must be so much fun. It's just gorgeous. What I especially like about Sun Devil Stadium is their use of seating 100,000 people or whatever it is, 70 to 100,000 people. Their use of seating them, not in seats, but on benches. Oh, those are always fun. Those are great. A bench situation. Yeah, that feels good. With no back on it. Yeah, splinters. It's great. Yeah, it's great. Well, they're not made of wood. Splinters in the legs. Those are the worst. Yeah, there's no splinters on there. I haven't heard why we can't have it at the Cardinals Stadium because they have a bye this week. But I heard on the news yesterday that it can't be at Cardinal Stadium. They don't want to share their toys. Well, we're practicing there. I heard that we were practicing at their practice facility, which is right. But their big toy, they won't let us have their big toy. I guess not. It's like their big Tonka. Please let us. They'll let us play with their little matchboxes. I don't want to play at Arizona State. But it's so pretty. No, it's ugly. Hey, Ash, I'm going to raise this pot up again, and you're going to have to turn it off manually.
There you go. Yep. Let's get this sucker on the road. What do you say? The fires are not only news here, they're news all over the globe. I'm glad we finally have a name for it. What is it? Firestorm 2007. Really? Yep. I called it yesterday to my dad. I said, I wonder what Jake will hear about the... What did I say? It's identical to it, but I thought mine flew off the tongue a little easier. The 07 Firestorm. The 2007 Firestorms or whatever. Firestorm 2007. That's too hard to say. Need something slicker. Are we ready to go to Rick? Let's go to Rick. Rick, are you there? Hey, Mikey. Hey, dude. I heard you so early this morning, and I thought, I wonder how much rest...
Rick has got. Well, you know, my wife and I took, we took like shifts last night. Little catnaps in between with the TV left on pretty much. Just trying to, you know, because we wanted to, if we had to leave at a moment's notice, we could. We spent most of the night just packing up stuff and putting it in the cars and ready to go if we had to split like that. What area do you live in, Rick? Northeast part of Tierra Santa. So we're doing okay, though. It really hasn't come down that far. But like in the Cedar Fire, like I mentioned yesterday, we got real, real close, you know. And you guys were mentioning about the, didn't they, in fact, it was this time last year, the Chargers played in Phoenix, right? Because of the Cedar Fire. No, well. Was it the Cedar Fire? During the Cedar Fires, yeah, it was like four years and a week. Yeah. I remember that game because that was the Miami game because that was when Junior went over to Miami. It was a big thing. Yeah, he was supposed to make his homecoming in San Diego, and they ended up having to move the game over to Arizona. Yeah, yeah. Right now, as far as the freeways are concerned, guys, the 15 is open. I mean, the fire's moved kind of west of that now, which is not a good thing. But you've got a closure north of the 78. Actually, right about, you've got to find some stuff that's going off and on. There's the Rice Canyon fire that you've heard about.
North of the 78. That's blazing big time up there. And sometimes they'll open it up a little bit north of the 78 and then they'll close it down. And then they'll open it up and then close it down. So right now, we're standing at Rainbow Valley is where the closure starts up to the 79. So you can go a little bit north of the 78. That's a little bit open to you. I'm getting a lot of calls about people coming down the 15 this morning looking east going, wow, what is that out there? That's Mount Miguel. That thing is like blazing big time. You can see that all over the county. We've got the 94 still shut down as it has been for the Last couple of days here from Otay Lakes to Forest Glen. You've got the 67 shutdown from Vigilante North all the way up to Ramona. And I-8 still closed down from Willows Road to Imperial County. But just the high-profile vehicles and motorcycles, that mainly due to the wind blowing out there. But right now the rest of our freeways are pretty quiet. There's one accident to watch for, and that's the southbound 163 right as it splits off the 15 coming out of Miramar into Kearney Mesa. It's a car that landed on its top in the two-right lane. It's not a good thing. So you'll find a bit of a backup around that. But other than that, we're actually, it's eerily quiet around the county right now. I thought, man, just in general, walking outside of the house this morning. Yeah. I don't know what I'm... It's just a weird, weird kind of a Twilight Zone kind of a feeling, isn't it? I don't know what I'm used to hearing in the morning at that time, but whatever I hear was not there. It was like a vacuum. Yeah. Nothing. Yeah, it's really, it's strange. Very odd. Very odd.
Well, dude, I appreciate it, and we'll be coming to you a few more times to get some traffic updates from you, and thank you for your hard work, man. Oh, you bet, Mikey. All right, man. All right. Talk to you a bit. See you. It's Rick Lawrence. Yeah, so let me introduce everybody on the show real quick. My name's Mikey. I'm the host of the show. Eddie's our producer and our sports guy. Skye is our news girl. She's 30 years old now. Oh, my God. What? For goodness sake. Whoa. Sean is our sound effects guy. He's up in the Bay Area, and we connect via satellite. He's 37. Ashley's our assistant producer, 24 years old. Boston Rob, phone screener, 24. Zeth, everything. He does everything. He does all kinds of stuff. He runs around like a chicken with his head cut off. He's 22. So yesterday, we live in the San Marcos, Carlsbad area. And yesterday when I got home, it was... Are you talking to me or somebody else? Okay. Yesterday when I got home, it was starting to look like it looks when the sun's going down. Like it was starting to look like dusk. But it wasn't anywhere near where it was going. But it was starting to look like dusk. And I walked into the house. And as soon as I walked in the house, it creeped me out.
But inside the house, and this is when it was just starting to look like dusk outside, inside the house, it already looked like nighttime. It didn't look like anything that I'm used to seeing walking into the house at 12 o'clock in the afternoon. Never looks like that. All the lights in the house were on, and it creeped me out what it did to my brain and what I was seeing. And Rebecca, my wife, had done this really cool thing where she had packed up the stuff that we needed. It was already in her car. And she said, you know, it's getting real. The air here in the house is getting real funky. She said, I'm thinking about taking Jake over to my mom's now. And I said, yeah, take him. Take him over there. So when I got home, right when I was pulling up to the house, there was a fire truck. And he was just kind of cruising slow, so I waved at him and he stopped the fire truck. And I said, hey man, what are the chances that they're going to evacuate this neighborhood? And he goes, well, if the fire keeps moving this way, then definitely they're going to evacuate. And I said, is the fire closed? Now, you know when you ask a question and you know the answer,
you already know the answer, but you just want to ask it to ease your mind. Totally. So I know that the fire isn't close, but I ask him because I just want to ease my mind. So I go, okay, is it close? And he gets this look on his face that instantly says, dude, I'm sorry, before he even responds. And he just shakes his head, mm-hmm. And I go, how far away is it? He goes, three miles. And I said, is it moving directly towards here? Like, all I wanted him to do was, no, not exactly. It's kind of, mm-hmm. I'm like, okay, great. So now I got to go tell Rebecca. So the air quality is already kind of crappy. So she gets Jake and she splits. So I'm there at the house. And I... I have the stuff that I'm going to take anyway, so I don't really need to get a lot together. My only responsibility if we have to leave is to grab our computer and the cats. And so I decide I'm going to live my life like I normally do. I'm not going to freak out. I'm going to take a nap. So I lay down and I'm taking a nap for...
Ten minutes and I hear... And so I go, oh no. So I run out to the front of the house. And by now when I go out there, it's raining the little white stuff. Oh gosh, that's so scary. And my neighbor's out there and he's really worried. Like a couple of my neighbors are out there and really worried. And my neighbor Dom says, did you hear what he said? And I go, no. And he goes, neither did I. So then another neighbor comes out and I go, did you hear what he said? He goes, no, I didn't hear it either. So we didn't hear it. And then so finally from far off, we hear it start again and we're all like trying to listen to what it says. This time we hear there is a voluntary evacuation of your area. And I go.
Does voluntary mean we don't have to do it? And they said, yeah, yeah. And I go, will it go to mandatory if it gets worse? Yeah, yeah. So they're like, all right, see ya. You know, one of them and his wife, and they like split. We're going to Santa Barbara. So they get out. The other neighbor, Mark, he says, what are you going to do? I said, I ain't leaving until it's, I have to. And he goes, I'm with you. So we're both in the same situation. I'm not kidding you. Ten minutes later. It is now a mandatory evacuation. You must leave your home. And I'm like, that's bad. That doesn't sound good at all. I don't like the word mandatory. Mandatory means we're not kidding and this isn't a suggestion. Now.
In between the time, as soon as they said that it was voluntary, I called Rebecca and I said, how do you feel about, they just announced voluntary evacuations. How do you feel about coming back here and helping me wrangle the idiots? And by idiots, I mean the cats. So brutal. And she goes, yeah, that's a good idea. So she comes back and we instantly get Jules. You know why? Because he's cool. Oh, here we go. That's a good point. Jules goes, hey, what's going on? Get me out of here. And I go, hey, there's a mandatory evacuation. He goes, hey, man, whatever I can do to help out. That's what he said. He goes, what do you need from me? And I go, well, I need you to get in this little cat thing and be cool about it. He's like, bro, anything you want. And then he stopped me. He looked me straight in the eye. He goes, Mike, it's going to be okay. And I said, Jules, that's why I like you. That's why I like you, bro.
So then the other one, the obese one's like, what's going on? Oh, wow. What a voice. You need to lose some weight. Good God. And I go, there's a mandatory evacuation going on, Ginger. And she goes, that's going to affect my brain. Whoa. Well, she's so fat. She's morbidly obese. I love her. She thought you'd want to move. So me and Rebecca both picked her up. What a badass. Well, it takes two, you guys, right? Yeah, it takes us both, you know. Of course it does. You know, and both of us are like a hernia is about to happen. Where is your food? Where are we going? No, no. I didn't know she talked like that. So we get her into a caring thing. And then we have no idea where that moron Sydney is. We have no idea. No idea. Idiot. Eddie, you know I would have left. That's my phone. I'm going to still leave it on just in case. That's a good idea. You know me, man. If it was me, if I hadn't had her come there, in all honesty, I would have taken approximately five minutes to find the cat. And if in that five minutes the cat was found, he was going to come with us. Mandatory evacuation. But not with Rebecca. We're finding him.
And so we would find him and he would jump over like he's scratching her, jumping on her to get away. He's like, you know, we can't get him. We can't get him. And when he scratched her was about 10 minutes into this thing. And I was so mad when he scratched her. I said, I'm starting to get angry. And if I get more angry, God has decided it's his time to go. So we keep looking and we keep looking and we finally get him. You'll never take me alive. Yeah, you can't take me. I go down with the sheep. Yes. We French cats are brave. I sound like you. Yeah, I sound like you. You coward. You run. Run. I fight the fire. You stick your tail between your legs and you leave. You leave. So we finally get him and left. And then there was a bunch of... gas stations that weren't working. Like, I went to two gas stations, they weren't working. There was lines. Yeah, that was the biggest problem up there yesterday. Well, not the biggest problem, but a big problem up there yesterday. Do you know what was up? Well, everybody was trying to get gas to get out of there, so there was tons of lines. And with all the power outages and things like that, it was just a mess. Yeah, there were reports of gas stations with...
Cars wrapped around the block. It was like an hour waits. Yeah. It was crazy. Because people were just, you know, first paranoid that, you know, like they want to get out, have enough gas to get out. But then also like, oh, what are the coming days going to bring? I want to make sure I have a full tank for the coming days. That's crazy. So what about you, Sky? You're up in North County. What about me as far as getting... Fire stuff. Oh, fire. Yeah, so we're in northeast Escondido, and the evacuation calls were coming to streets just a couple blocks away from us because we know people in that area. But we never got a call. But then from watching the news, it looked like our area was part of the mandatory evacuation yesterday at about 2 o'clock, I think, is when all that came through for us. So, of course, my husband didn't want to go anywhere. He was like, let's wait for a call. Let's wait for a call. But, I mean, it was getting to the point where it was so smoky because at first it's like you could see the hills in the distance with the smoke behind it, but then the smoke got so thick coming over the hills that you couldn't see the hills anymore. So at that point, I didn't know if there was active flame on the hills or if it was just smoke.
So I was like, you know what, too much for me. So me and the hubby actually kind of had to have a little back and forth because he didn't want to go. And I was like... And you ended up winning? Yeah. Because I'm like, dude, it's... I can't believe that after a back and forth... Shut up. What? I was like, dude, it's not worth it. My parents are in San Marcos. Their house is nowhere in danger. It's not worth our lives. What would it have taken him to convince you to stay? Oh, yeah, right. Come on. In a situation like that, nothing. I mean, why take a chance? Ah! He couldn't have said, babe, listen, we're going to be okay. Listen, we'll go, but let's just wait until they come through. I'll stay up with binoculars waiting to see if I see flames. Dude, I was already doing that. No, you were not. Come on, be honest. You were not. You weren't with binoculars. You did not have binoculars. Go on. Go on. Come on. Our house is surrounded by, like, mountain ridges. You broke out the binocs? So you don't know when all of a sudden the flames are just going to come over the other side. Like, people were driving up to our street to looky-loo the area. Because you can kind of, like, see. Where's my sniper rifle? Get those people out of there, man. Perhaps they get the hose.
So as we're like packing up to evacuate, there's people up there like looking around and like, oh, look over there. You survey the north, I'll survey the east. It's 7 p.m. Where are my night goggles? Ramsey! There's my night vision. Get off the roof. Get down here. So we didn't take a chance. We left. We spent the night in San Marcos with the kitty cats. Ramsey, fetch me my night vision forthwith. Of course, Tango thought it would be a good idea to vomit in the car on the way over to my parents' house in San Marcos. So that was my husband. And my husband said, see what you did? See? Oh, gosh. Tension. Right? I'd rather have the cat throw up in the car than all of us be burnt to a crisp. Would he have had the option? Knowing your relationship, would he have had the option to say, you go, I'm staying? No. Oh, wow. Well, I couldn't because the whole point I wanted to leave is so we could rest, so we could put our mind at ease. Like, hey, even if our house burns down, we're all safe, we're all okay. But if knowing he was there, I wouldn't be able to rest knowing that he was still there. No way. So after I get off work today, we'll just have to go back and hopefully, you know, everything's okay. Make sure the binocs are okay.
We took the binocs with us. I don't know why, though. But I did leave the heat vision. Yes. My husband packed the binoculars, which I don't understand why. But okay. Left the wedding album, by the way. Because I told them. I told them. When I was at work, I'm like, you know, I hear the evacuations are coming in our neighborhood. Please, you know, pack up the car. Get the box. Yeah, I'm like, I put all the important files in a pile. Take those, but just make sure to grab the photo albums and the pictures. Okay, cool. Did you get the waffle maker? Did you get it? So I come home and I see like our little linen thing where we put all our framed pictures. He took all those and then I look. All the photo albums still there, including our wedding album, including my parents' wedding album that they like gifted to me. But he got the binocs. But he got the binocs, Ash. You're good. Yeah.
He bought a whole case of beef jerky at Costco. I ain't leaving that, dude. No, he took the binoculars and cinnamon cake. It's a random stuff, man. He packed all my birthday presents that I hadn't opened. Those were very important. You're like, babe, you take a hot water heater? He's like, it was heavy, but I knew. You never know where we're going. Yeah, you don't know. We might need hot water. That's the wedding album. Priorities. Right. Dude, I was in the house. Before we left, I took a camera and I took a picture of every square inch inside our house, man. Yeah, dude. I said, listen to me, Allstate. Insurance. I don't want any of your guff. You ain't messing with me. Keepers. All right, guys. We'll see you later. We're going home. Cool. Call our show. Good show. Hi. 570-1053. Give us a call. P1, Stephanie. Hi. I just wanted to say thank you for... Having some humor this morning. I just kind of needed it after hours of nothing funny. You know, I was thinking about it, Stephanie, and honestly, like, I was thinking if we go in and we just act like we normally act, it might help, you know, people to kind of chill out a little bit. Yeah, this is actually the first time I've laughed, like, I don't know, in the past couple days. No. Like, seriously. No. Yeah.
I always look to Eddie for a reaction when Scott. Why? I don't know. I don't recall laughing all yesterday. I was so freaked out. Why? Why is that? I'll tell you. Can I tell you? I'll answer. Thank you for the call, Stephanie. Can I tell you? That's a dick. Oh, God. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. I'll get you back. I'll get you back. Hang on. I haven't said anything. Oh, my God. I'm worried about you. Here's the deal. Why are you worried about me? Let me tell you. Let me tell you. I hate you. I'm trying to say something nice. It is very nice. No. Yeah, what you got, Mike? Nothing. Oh, okay. Nothing. Not today. Seriously. It's not Monday. Oh, man. Let's all come together here. Yeah. Why don't we come together as a group? Let's leave Sky. I want to. Wait. Eddie. That's not what we're saying. Oh, I thought you said, like, hey, Sky, let's all leave. No, no, no. No. I meant like, let's leave you alone. In the building burning. In the burning building. Great. I get it. P1 Craig. Hey, Mikey, what's going on? What's up, man? Hey, I just want to let you know, I was driving down Lake Murray Boulevard this morning going on my way to work, and I could see them fires licking the flames over the mountains about two miles south of me. I'll tell you what, man. It's one of those situations where you just wish you could put your finger on the clock and make it go forward and just let it all...
burn out because we don't know how long this is going to last. The really scary part about it for me is information. It's so hard to get information and to know exactly what's going on. There's so many people who have no idea right now whether or not they have a house or they burn down. That is probably the worst feeling in the world, where they're asleep at Qualcomm or at some random cot at a high school, and they're sitting there going, well, I don't know. What do you think? That sucks. I just looked up at the TV and saw that Matt Lauer is in town, so I instantly feel safer. Today's show is being televised this morning, and he has Matt Lauer. Steven, good morning. Well, Marianne, you said it. Good morning to you. This is a story that stretches far beyond the boundaries of just San Diego County. I know yesterday in New York, Matt Lauer was covering this story from the desk there. A day later, here you are in San Diego. Good morning to you. Thanks for talking with us. Hey, Stephen. Good to see you. Nationally, what is the perception of what's going on here from New Yorkers and people on the East Coast? I think it's a lot like other stories. You know, when you see video from 3,000 miles away, okay, you say it looks dramatic and I haven't seen flames like that.
in a long time, but it's not until you actually get on the ground and you stand in front of a structure that's gone, that isn't just a building, but it's someone's home, and you sit and talk to homeowners, then you start to feel the personal nature of this. And we decided to come out yesterday afternoon as we were hearing reports from firefighters and our producers on the ground that these fires were just exploding and that the winds weren't going to die down. And we realized, I mean, this is going to be something that you folks here and in other parts of Southern California are going to be dealing with for not just today, but perhaps the next several days. Now, that's one of the gnarly parts about our fires is that in terms of natural disasters, when a hurricane comes through, it happens and it leaves all this destruction behind and you have to deal with it. When a tornado hits, it hits. It leaves all this destruction behind. You have to deal with it. When the fires hit, it leaves all this destruction behind. You have to deal with it, except that the fires, it goes on for days. I mean, imagine a hurricane that stayed in your area for three days. Oh, my God. Or a week. Or a tornado that stayed in your area. Or an earthquake that lasted for three days. In terms of disasters, the firestorm, to me, is almost the worst, man. Because it's with you. And it doesn't go away. And the smoke just keeps getting worse and worse. It's a...
Creepy thing in that regard. Your way in, you probably saw the flames of Miguel burning. You've been to some homes here in Rancho Bernardo. You've covered, obviously, some big stories in your time. Where does this fit in in terms of fires? Well, this is about the biggest fire that I've seen. I was out in Yellowstone several years ago, actually on vacation with my family when the wildfires were burning there. But last night, we got off the plane and came right here to Rancho Bernardo, went up to Poway, and we're, I think... Good for him knowing how to pronounce everything. He's a pro, right? I love that, Matt Lauer. He's so good. He's so good. The most startling thing, and I think people may not understand, they think, okay, if we see a house on fire, there must be a fire engine and firefighters there trying to put it out. But resources are stretched so thin here that last night we were in Poway watching a building fully engulfed in flames. There wasn't a fire truck within three miles of that place. So it's a sad feeling because, again, you know that... Somebody's memories are going up in flames there. Sure, it's scary. It makes you feel a little helpless on your own. It makes you think of what's going on back home. Fire is bigger than the response. Did you guys hear about Larry Himmel? Yeah. Larry Himmel from Channel 8. I turned on the TV yesterday. I'm just flipping through the channels yesterday at about noon. And here is an emotional Larry Himmel doing a live report in front of his house, fully engulfed in flames. Oh, my gosh. And when I saw it,
It scared me so bad because I thought, wow, it's just like it can affect everybody. Could be anyone. I'm just not used to seeing a person on TV standing. You're going to see that. We have the latest. And here it is. I'm Craig Elston. Here's the latest news headlines on the fire. The so-called witch fire has burned more than 145,000 acres and about 500 homes have been destroyed, along with 50 outbuildings and 100 commercial buildings. Seven firefighters and one civilian have been reported injured. Over 300,000 people have been forced to leave their homes. The primary evacuation centers... Qualcomm Stadium in Mission Valley, but dotted around the county, and the latest mandatory evacuations. In the Spring Valley area, Miller Ranch Road in Spring Valley, south of the 94, South Barcelona Street, south to the northern part of Sweetwater Reservoir, Destiny Mountain, Lampara, and Doubletree Road. A mandatory evacuation for Del Mar, the area south of Del Dios Highway, north of Sorrento Valley Road, and west of Black Mountain Road, all the way to the ocean.
For all of the latest on the firestorm, AM600 COGO has continuous coverage. I'm Craig Elston. That's the latest news. Hey, Crush It, if you're listening, let us know how you're doing, man. Because what I heard this morning was that it was starting to go near his neighborhood. And he got an evac yesterday. So I want to know how he's doing. I hope he's all right. And I hope everything's okay with him. Here was Schwarzenegger yesterday, 22. It's a tragic time for California. The devastating fires have killed so far one person. They've injured four firefighters. Maria and I want to join all Californians to send our thoughts and prayers to the families of those victims. Did anybody see when he did it live? I didn't. Yeah, I did. Was it a very long speech? No, not really. I mean, he was over in El Cajon and kind of did his initial speech and then kind of brought in the mayor and then brought in all the other. people that have been you know spokespersons for this whole situation so speaking of the mayor he's going to give a press conference at seven so about a half hour from now um mayor sanders gonna say something we'll find out uh and like we did yesterday in fact i kind of want to loosen it up even more today yesterday in between giving you fire fire fire stuff we were also kind of mixing in some entertainment stuff and today i want to do it even more because uh
I think that it's needed to kind of just chill out a little bit. Everybody's all wound up. Yeah, some people haven't laughed in days. When Skye said that, when Skye said, I haven't laughed in, what did you say? What were your exact words? I don't know. I said in a while, in a day or two. It's the first time I've laughed. It's true. There was just something about... No, come on. Something about that statement. You're just so wrapped up in watching the news and, you know, fearing for people, fearing for yourself. It makes you feel good to laugh. Just tough as it is to say. Actually, the first time I've laughed. It feels good to feel. It gets a smoke out of your lungs to just laugh a little bit. Oh, come on. I had a little black lung this morning before the show started. You guys. No, I'm telling you. It's a turn on. Leave her alone. Skye, before we went on. No, no, no, no. Skye, remember you. No, no, no. No, no, no. Wait, what? Because I coughed this morning before we went on air. Is that what you're talking about? I'm saying when you did that. Oh. You're so dramatic. I'm sorry I had a cough. You're dramatic. Now I'm not allowed to cough. Mike.
You're dramatic. That was an overreaction. First time I was able to cough in days. Shut up. You guys make my morning so much better. I swear to God. This is the Mikey Show. I appreciate that, dude. That's very nice of you to say. Rock 105.3. Yeah. Well, that's an option we have is to go back on. So either dead air or go back on. It happened. Let's take a boat. Dead air. Oh, come on. Come on. Don't tell me that. For real? Why not? Now we're on the air. Hey, this is the off-mic of Sandy. The name pardoned me. Shut up. And businesses are looking for workers. Take advantage of the opportunities waiting for you. Do you think you can get Ron on the line? Now it just stopped. Well, I stopped it because we were all on. The whole thing went blank.
And then it all just came back on and started playing again. So I just stopped it. I wish we had a camera on Eddie. Come on, Eddie. This is so jacked, dude. Well, all you have to do is Eddie's job description is make sure that the show is executed. You know, as an executive producer. So when that goes on, he looks at me like, Mike, I don't know what to do. I'm moving to Missouri. I'm moving to Missouri. No, he's not. That's what the look was. Like, what more can I do? I say, let's finish the spot block. What do you say? Yeah. Ashley's now on the phone screaming at somebody on the phone. Let me tell you, I hope she never becomes a CEO of any company. I will never work for her. I will not work there because if you screw up, like I'm her boss. But she was the one that screwed up a lot of that. Okay. That's the part that makes me crazy. I was telling you.
I'm her boss. She yells at me sometimes. I go, wait, wait. No, no, no. What are you doing? She makes us cry. Wyoming is booming with jobs and businesses are looking for workers. I just want to let you know that this is going to be happening throughout the morning because our computer system is all janked up because of, I don't know how it relates to the fire. Well, I think I, if this is the same thing, I think I heard one of our engineers saying that yesterday when we lost power, it did something to our system. Are you there? Hello? Hello? Hello, hello? There you are. Hello? Go ahead. This is ridiculous. Go ahead. All right. Well, as far as the traffic is concerned, it basically... I know, man. It's so weird, man. Like, we can't control anything. Stuff just starts going off. It starts firing. I'm like, hey, whatever you want to do, machine. So jacked. It's out of our control. It's the first time the computers laughed in two days. If I had that coffee in my mouth, it would have come right out. And then it would have gone all over the board. You would have shorted up more stuff.
The best of CD should be called First Time I've Laughed in This. In your face, Skye. John! Edric, traffic. And it's a picture of Skye clearly crying but smiling. Yeah, thank you. Okay, and that's traffic. Bye. Now my music stops, so you're on your own, Rick. Okay, man. You know what? Nothing's really going on. It's very quiet. People are staying home for good reason. There's no really traffic. Except for the South 5, you're going to find a bit of a delay near Manchester. As far as closures are concerned, you've got the 15 north here, right at Rainbow Valley. And from there, it's north to the 79. That is completely shut down. I'm getting a lot of calls about people trying to get in and out of Fallbrook and the Paula area, Bonzel. Well, you can't access the 76. That's okay.
But they're basically letting people out and going south on the 15. They're not going to let you go north. If you want to go to Temecula, forget about it. It's not going to happen. East County, Don DeForest, still shut down from Otai Lakes to Forest Gate. You've got high wind advisory still in effect on I-8. High-profile vehicles and motorcycles will not be allowed on I-8 from Willows Road East all the way out to the Imperial County. So forget that as well. And as I said, you're going to find just a minor delay on South 15. I mean, South Bond 5, rather, at Manchester. That's really about it. Everything else is very, very quick. Wyatt. I'm McLarenson Rock with a fire three. All right. Thanks, Rick. Sean, you really should get the audio of Sky originally saying. Maybe you shouldn't, Sean. Maybe you really shouldn't. It's the first time I've laughed in days. It was a great moment. It was. It was a great moment. It was a bonding moment. Yeah. Yeah. I think we were all thinking it, Mike. Yeah. Can you guys be cool, man? We are being cool. There's a lot going on. Yeah, we know. We know. Right? Yeah. Maybe we should bring our friends close and love them. Yeah, I think you're bringing the community together. Yeah. With the first time, the laughing in the days. Yeah. The days of laughter. Yeah. The return of the days of laughter. What? Rise of the laughter. Yeah. You sound like the Led Zeppelin record. Does anybody remember laughter? Ha, ha, ha. Ha, ha.
Good one, Arnold one. Yeah, thank you, Arnold three. Laugh it up, fuzzball. I wasn't even in that movie. No, but it's a good line. You're just saying the lines. Yeah, I'm talking to that fuzzball over there. It's a good line. No. Last time you laughed, you were 29. Seems like just yesterday. Oh, it was. Yeah, it was. It was. It was. Guys, it's the first time I've laughed at 30 years old. I didn't even open any of my birthday presents yesterday. Oh, no. That is a tragedy. That's more of a tragedy than the witch fire. Yeah. Well, no, I'm not saying that. Lost your house. Can't open your birthday presents. I'm just reiterating the fact that obviously no one was, you know, I wasn't happy. And the clothes. I'm sure that means a lot to the people sitting at Qualcomm. That's not what I'm saying. Hey, guys. Hey, guys. You guys are A's. Okay, now you're going to make me like a jerk. She didn't even open a birthday present yesterday. Yeah, Glower.
Get over here. Here's the story. Forget those people in tents, Lauer. Boo. That's not what I'm saying. I'm Matt Lauer. I'm standing here with a woman named Skye who yesterday tragically was not even able to open her birthday presents. Ma'am, describe the scene when this didn't happen. Matt, there's obviously more important things you should be covering right now. This was just something I was mentioning to my friends because they're mocking me. I hope Larry Himmel's listening to this. Oh, man. Can you imagine? He's like, wow, that sucks. Man, that sucks. What a bad day for you. You didn't even open the... Have you opened them yet? Not one present? Have you opened them yet? Not a single one? No. Sky, do not check out Sky's microphone. That's not fair. I'll be over here. Don't do it. Don't. Can you believe that? Not one present. Shut up, Eddie. Not a single one. You're not even supposed to do my voice, dummy.
What? What is she talking about? Do you guys have a rule, a deal? No. Is there a rule? Well, normally you're Skye and he's White Ramsey. Oh, oh, oh. Or whatever we're doing today. No, yeah, he does. I hear your voice all the time. What are you talking about? Oh, I guess I just block it out. This smoke's confusing me. Shut up! I got smokey brain. Yeah, smokey brain. Smoke brain. Black brain. Yes. Hey, the Kogo website is awesome, man. I don't know if you guys have checked out the Kogo website. It's the best website in terms of information I've seen yet. KOGO.com. And it's just really good, man. It shows you everything. It's got maps of where areas are affected. It's really good. So I encourage people to check that out. P1 Jordan is on the line. Jordan, what's up? Hey, what's up, guys? How you doing? What's up? Hey, I'm out here in Valley Center and there's a fire that broke out here in Rincon. And I'm trying to get out of Valley Center right now. And it's just like everyone in Valley Center is trying to leave. And it's just stop and go traffic just trying to get out of here. Just kind of giving you guys a heads up to see people are aware.
Yeah, that's the one out by Harrah's Rincon out in the Valley Center area. And are they coming back, like, headed towards San Diego? Yeah, which way are you guys going? Into Escondido? Yeah, we're heading towards Escondido right now. Everybody's heading towards Escondido. Yeah, because it's probably not too smart to go the other way because we have all the fires up north there in Fallbrook. I don't even know where it goes. Where does it go the other way? Like, if you passed the Harrah's, where would you go? either palomar mountain or like uh going to the desert you don't want to go there no you don't want to go there so um the fire out there um is on the la jolla indian reservation which i didn't even realize but i guess that's the area around uh So they've actually made Harrah's Rincon an evacuation center there. And they've also made the Palomar Observatory an evacuation center there as well. But they say that they believe that that fire actually started in a house. Like it had nothing to do with the wildfires. It was a house fire that turned into this. So that was obviously the last thing we needed with all the wildfires going on. It's so weird how, thank you for the call, there was...
How did seven fires get going in the first place? You know, I understand a couple of fires, especially a couple of fires that are located close. But when you look at a map of the county, there's stuff way far down south. And then there's stuff way up north. And, you know, you just go, well, how did these start? I mean, there were so many of them. It just seemed like it was really strange that they all happened the way that they happened. Yeah, I think when it comes to a lot of the negative speculation regarding the fires, whether we're talking about looting or arson or any speculation of that, people are really trying just to not even think about it. And once everything calms down and everybody's safe, then they can start investigating that stuff. But I definitely have heard, you know, a speculation regarding arson in some regards, but also downed power lines, blown transmitters or whatever they're called. Transformers. Thank you, Transformers. More than meets the eye. I'm getting stuff about that there was looting in Rancho Bernardo, in Rancho Santa Fe, but I don't know if it's like... You hear so much. I don't know what's real, what isn't real. I just want to say, for the record, that on this day, for one day...
It is legal to shoot and kill the looters. Yeah. No, no. It's not, Governor. No, you cannot shoot and kill people. And the reason is they deserve it. Well, they may deserve it, but legally, no. Grenade their face off. Legal. Legally. Legally. Grenade their face. Okay. Now, as crazy as these wildfires have been, it's eclipsing the news of... Marie Osmond fainting on Dancing with the Stars last night. Oh, man. And I couldn't even watch it. Because of, you know, regular programming was off. Yeah, I'm sure it's all over YouTube. I'm so bummed. Come on. You know, for the amateur dancer, for me, this dance, the samba, is the hardest one to master. I agree. There's lots of different rhythms going on. You have to do steps on the spot. You have to move around the floor. You've got to get this elusive bounce action going. And, of course, you've got to show the gaiety and the fun of the samba. All right, we're going to take a commercial break. We'll be right back. No, opposite. We'll be right back after this. Please don't. Stay with it. Zoom in. Don't do it. Stay with it. Zoom. What if she died? Don't go. Oh, man. Why would a person that has any kind of close condition to that be on Dancing with the Stars?
Like, if you know that when you dance, you're going to go. Yeah. When you overexert yourself. Why would you possibly be on Dancing with the Stars? And here's what she says. Well, let's go in order. Okay. This is after commercial Tom Bergeron talking about what happened. Cut to. Just so you know, Marie is fine. You're about to see her backstage as she awaits her scores. And I want to just quote her exactly. She passed out. She fainted, as you saw. And the first words out of her mouth when she saw us all. leaning over her were, oh, crap. So, she was a trooper indeed. Okay, so here's her explaining it. Cut three. All right, a 21 out of 30. So, if you thought Vincent would get you 10s, it didn't work. No, you don't plan those things. Once in a while, that happens to me when I get winded and I stop breathing. I'm so sorry. I'm really sorry. You know, I guess he's right. I am sleeping beauty, huh? It's a strange human thing that we've heard a million times that we all do. I'm just making an observation of it. The apologizing when you faint. I wish Tom would have gone, you know what? I don't accept. I don't accept your apology. That was rude. That was uncalled for. It was messed up.
Second of all, who do you think you are? Lady. Apology not accepted, and I don't want to be your friend anymore. I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. No. Keep apologizing. Not going to help. Oh, man. Every once in a while, I stop breathing. Oh, really? Maybe you should see a doctor about that. Maybe you shouldn't be on Dancing with the Stars. They're showing a live shot of the 15 right now. It looks like Denver in the month of January. It looks like snow is everywhere. And it's ash. And can you just picture what our normal commute should be looking like at this time? I know. I mean, there's cars out on the road, but that's a ghost town compared to what we normally got going on at 10 minutes to 7 in the morning. Not only does it look like Denver in January with snow on the ground, it looks like Denver in January at about 1 o'clock in the morning in terms of the light. Yeah. It looks like the middle of the night. It's so creepy. You probably notice this too. When you're driving this morning, the roads look kind of normal. But when somebody drives by you, you just notice this plume of ash. Yeah.
That looks like, you know, just dust going up in the air or whatever. Well, it was a trip when I was coming in this morning, you know, because I was coming from the north area. So I was, you know, coming down the 15 and passing Rancho Bernardo and, you know, where it becomes Poway, that area. I mean, it was pitch black. Like you couldn't see one house light, one street light, anything. It was just a trip to see because normally an area that's just, you know, dotted with lights and houses. I mean, it's just a pitch black mountain. That's creepy, man. Yeah. I was watching the news this morning on Channel 8 about four o'clock in the morning. And I don't remember who the guy was, but he had this moment that I know that I've had. And it's one of these moments where. The guy's very intelligent and words are apparently very important to him. Words are real important to me. I love words. And so he's giving this report. It's a live report. He's sitting at the desk. He's an anchor. He's sitting at the desk and he's a younger guy. He looked like he was about 33. And he's got the paper in front of him and he's reading. And he's talking about this certain area and he goes in. Blah, blah, blah. Area completely destroyed. I get it. Oxymoron. Destroyed. The place is destroyed.
Like he was having a conversation with himself in his head. And he told him, dude, that's an oxymoron. And he said, I get it. I get it. It's oxymoron. I get it. Get off my case, me. Yeah, me. It was great. Wow. So it seems like that Rancho Bernardo is clearly the hardest hit. Is that safe to say? It is. As far as like homes and stuff, I know that as of last night when I went to bed, there was over 300 homes completely destroyed. I get it. I know. Oxymoron. Right. Okay. Homes.
Destroyed. Destroyed. So, yeah, as far as housing, that is by far the biggest one. Yeah, they say Rancho Bernardo, just like Eddie said, at least 300 homes. They're estimating about 70 homes in Escondido were lost, 50 in Poway, and six in Rancho Santa Fe. But, you know, of course, these numbers already are a couple hours old. And with the Mount San Miguel fire going right now so strong, that looks pretty scary as well. Hey, P1s. You know, phone lines are going to be open all morning for anything. Like, you can call about anything. You know, we do open phones at the beginning and end of every show. Well, you can call about anything you want. Phone lines are open. 570-1053. A bunch of Charger players had to be evacuated. Over 40 players and staff were evacuated yesterday. Oh, man. And it sucks now. Like, who? Do you know who? I mean, you name it. LT, Rivers, Gates, Marlon McCree, Matt Wilhelm. I mean, you name it. They all live in the Rancho Santa Fe, Forest Ranch area. I wonder if any Padre players had anything going on. They did. Tony Gwynn had to be evacuated from Poway. We all know he lives in Poway. He had to be evacuated. Trevor Hoffman, Bud Black, Sandy Alderson, even Bruce Bochy still has a house here. He had to be evacuated. Oh, my. I mean, it's kind of a who's who. Why don't we do this? Why don't we take a quick time...
We'll come back. We'll make you laugh a little bit. We'll talk about whatever you want. It's your show, San Diego. Mike was here. The Mikey Show continues. Mike is a... Give it a second, P1s. It's a computer system. Eventually, it'll start to work. That's going to be a little bit annoying all morning long. Yeah, on 1,000. Two, one thousand. Well, what blows about it is I guess we just have to hang out. We can't just let it be dead air. No. So we have to just wrap until it decides to fire. Oh, you want to wrap? Yeah. What do you want to do? Well, vanilla ice? Oh, no, no, no. Not that. It's that. They're giving away a car a month. Every month this year. And not just any car, but hybrids. Priuses and Civics. As weird as it seems right now and as bad as it seems right now, one day, this will be in our rearview mirror. And I know it don't seem like it right now, but one day, probably not that far from now, you're going to be laughing about something. And you'll be able to say, it's the first time I've laughed. Actually, the first time I've laughed, like, I don't know, in the past couple days. Well, there you go. Well, there you go. This guy can't get upset at all when she's hearing the theme, the Friday Night Lights. Right? This is one of those themes that you have to break down, like the 90210 theme, you know what I mean? Right. It's a small town. You know what's going on here? Friends. Sometimes in this town, times get rough. Always have when times are getting rough. We got the Dylan Panthers for one thing. Yeah! But let's not forget, we also... I used to be in this town.
I actually have an update that is not very old about the Rice Fire. That's the one in Fallbrook. And it's pretty new. It's pretty recent. So cut 28. We're still unable to really give a good estimate on the number of acres. But it's well over 1,000 now. We have had several, many, many, many homes destroyed and even damaged. The fire is basically racing up Ritchie Road. and also we're trying to make a stand right at the curb on Highway 76. Our main concern is the safety of firefighters and also citizens who have really done a good job by evacuating. So that is a relief on our part, but there are some residents that are still sitting tight and want to ride this out. So our strongest recommendation is that they evacuate under the mandatory evacuation. Yeah, last check, I read that about 1,500 acres have been destroyed up in Fallbrook, 100 structures, 45,000 people were evacuated yesterday because of the Rice Canyon fire, and 15, if I'm understanding correctly, 15 going north from the 78 heading up into the Temecula area is still closed, but only the northbound portion. Wait, wait, wait, we may have an amendment to that. We may have an amendment to that. Oh, yeah? P1 Carrie, are you there?
Yeah, Mike, hey, this is P1K. Yeah, I just left Temecula about half an hour ago, the 15 going to north, and I'm already all the way up to Sun City right now. So the 15 going northbound from Escondido is open. But didn't you say you left from Temecula? No, I left from Escondido about 30 minutes ago, and I'm heading northbound on the 15. So northbound 15 is open, but once you get up my ocean side in the rainbow area, it looks like it goes from night to day. Well, listen, here's something that's kind of important for us to remember. Rick Lawrence, our traffic guy, was saying they open it, they close it. They open it, they close it. They open it, they close. So if you, in the next even half hour, notice that that 15 North is closed, let us know. Because apparently they'll run it for a little bit, then they'll shut it down. They'll run it, they'll shut it down. Right now, I don't know. That's right now, Mike. I just left about 30 minutes ago. So it's open right now. You're quite right. It's really black up there by rainbow. So if you're going up that way, everybody be careful. But, hey, Mike, I got to go. My mama's calling me, so I got to go. You always got to go when the mama's calling you, man. See you later. Let's see. Matt Lauer doing some stuff here from San Diego. We got to take the opportunity to listen to that. So let's see what Matt Lauer is saying. One meal in over 24 hours, but they said the fire is all that mattered.
You've heard a lot about the Witch Fire. This is part of that fire burning just behind me right now in the community of Poway. This started Sunday at about 1240 in the afternoon. It was about four or five acres large. They dropped some water on it from the air. Within five minutes, it grew to about 50 acres burning all around me here. And as you can see, there is lots of dry fuel for it to go through still. Here in Poway, they've already lost about 50 homes and structures. The people here are gone under mandatory evacuation. Police officers patrolling the streets. They also have reverse 911 calls where a computer will actually dial numbers and tell people in a certain area to get out. There's nothing that can be done to save this home. The winds are swirling and there's a home on the hill you can just see through the smoke. That could be next. Thank you for coming. There's Schwarzenegger in town. Wow! Yeah. I wanted to meet Colonel Sanders. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger flew to San Diego after issuing a state of emergency in seven counties throughout the southern part of the state. We are battling with this all over the state of California. There's seven, eight fires right now. We are stretched to the limit when it comes to the resources. In San Diego County, where one person was killed and 29 injured, including a dozen firefighters...
Well over 1,000 fire crews are battling at least five fires still raging throughout this area, with over 167,000 acres burned so far. Those firefighters are nails, man. Dude. Definitely. I don't know. I'm telling you, man. It takes a whole different kind of dude to do that. In an area northeast of San Diego, as many as 40 players from the San Diego Chargers football team had to be evacuated from their homes when a fire swept through an exclusive development. Practice was canceled on Monday. Meanwhile, Qualcomm Stadium became an evacuation center where an estimated 10,000 people have taken shelter. In Canyon Country, just north of Los Angeles, water-dropping helicopters worked frantically to save property. Crews battled hot... Dry winds that continue. Are we going to get some choppers up? Did we get some choppers up? You know, it's just difficult still with the winds. You know, they're not able to. And I heard reports yesterday on and off throughout the day that different aircraft were going up. But, you know, but they were going up and having to come back down depending on shifting the winds. Yeah, the normal, you know, aircrafts that they're able to launch, they're not able to do it still because of the winds. Yeah, and they're not able to keep them up there full time like they would like to. Hey, P1 Andy.
Yes. What's going on, man? Hey, man, I'm standing at the 76 in Fallbrook. Well, actually, I'm in my truck, and I'm standing. And the freeway is slow and free in both directions. Wanted to let you guys know that. Thank you, man. Now, this, I thought, was a little humorous yesterday. I heard them frantically on the radio letting people know that Qualcomm was taking people. You know, if you needed to be evacuated, you could go to Qualcomm. And they had to come on and let people know, we mean Qualcomm Stadium? So stop showing up to Qualcomm in Sorrento Valley. Yeah, I heard many reports of that. People were going to like Qualcomm headquarters. What? Like showing up, they're like, hey, you got a sandwich? Yeah, we're here. Oh my God. I got something to eat. Where do I put my stuff? Hey, where can I put my cat? Where should I set up the litter box? Is somebody using that cubicle?
No, no, no. Qualcomm Stadium. Sounds like somebody's got a case of the Mondays. Weird. Oh, you mean Jack Murphy? Oh, that's different. All right, well, do you guys have anything to eat? Man. That did give me a little giggle. P1 Steve is on the line. Are you there, Steve? Yeah, Mikey, how's it going? Good, man. I actually just got off at... It's, I think, 36-hour shift right now. I was over at Qualcomm. We're helping set up a med station. I just let anyone know if they can give any supplies, canned goods, blankets, anything, even just a smile, because these guys, Mikey, it's crazy down there. The field, the whole field level is all tents. People are living in tents right now. People are living on cots, on whatever people are being given. People are pretty down right now.
kind of a depressing side. We're trying to do our best. Yeah, man. I wish we could do something to make them laugh. Seriously. Yeah. I guess they had a band play last night trying to lighten some people's spirits up. It helped a little bit, but it's hard for these people right now. If anyone can go down there just to talk to them. I bet. Yeah, yeah. Just play chess or just play cards with them. Just kind of keep their minds away from wondering what's going to happen after this. Yeah, they need a little bit of everything down there. And one thing that they really need is, like, good vibes. And listen, thank you for the call. I appreciate it, man. Some people are really good at that. I believe God blesses everybody in a different way. And some people are really people people. And you just, you have this natural ability. Like, I'm saying this right now, and I know there's some of you listening, and you're like, yeah, yeah, people have told me that. You know, seriously, you know, that you're the type of person that can put a smile on somebody's face or make people feel better. And that guy's right, man. Like those people at Qualcomm right now, they can use it. So get.
If you're taking cans and you're taking stuff like that, that guy's right. If you can, take a second. They mostly need blankets, pillows, like tents. If you can donate a tent, they really need stuff like that. Because people were jamming out of their house. They're not thinking, let me grab my air mattress. So that's the stuff they really need out there. As of last night, they were okay with food and water. Yeah, this morning they were doing a call for breakfast foods. Obviously like unopened things like boxes of snacks. Cereal, bowls, styrofoam bowls, plastic utensils. There's just so many people that they're trying to feed. But I did just read something interesting, Mikey, about the looting. Really? There have been some arrests. They say that two men, two 18-year-old men, were arrested last night in Ramona on suspicion of burglary. They give their names? No. That's too bad. I wish they did. Yeah. So I'll keep you updated if any other, you know, we've heard rumors of looting, but this is the first concrete evidence we've seen of arrests so far. Two 18-year-old men arrested in Ramona. Okay. Quick time out. Back with more information. And we're going to lighten the mood as we go on, too. So hang out with us. You are listening to The Mikey Show. Indeed, you are.
You want to hear E.T. music until the commercials come back? Yeah. It's uplifting. I need a little uplifting music right now. You can't see it, but I'm actually broadcasting right now from a BMX bicycle. You know what? I think I better make an executive decision. No commercials until we can figure it out. Seriously, because, I mean, there's no point. They just told us they fixed it. Well, that sucks. Well, here's the deal. I mean, it's not anybody's fault. You know what I mean? It's just there's glitches. It's not working. They're trying. And, you know, we're in a situation where stuff is not going very good. Yeah. So, you know, but I mean.
what's the point if it's going to be that? We can't do that. Yeah, I mean, I just called him again. He's looking into it again. So it's really... Hey, I'm not blaming the guy. I know they're working their buns off to try to get this stuff going. It's just, it is what it is, you know? Thank you. That's all I really needed. Eddie's in the basket. You're in the basket, Eddie? Yeah. Well, I put Eddie in a little hoodie sweatshirt. I don't want to be seen. Who's that in the basket? What's that? Who's in the basket? I can't tell. You can't tell. It's my friend. Oh, well, who's your friend? You better start peddling. Phil. Let's get out of here. Phil. Why's Phil got his hood on? Phil, I'd like to meet you, Phil. He's eating peanut butter. Why is Phil pointing at me with that weird finger? No, put your hand down, Phil. Did he put that finger in red paint? Hey, Phil, put your hand down. No, put your finger down. Phil. Phil.
Phil has got a cold. I think he needs a lozenge. You want me to give your friend Phil a lozenge? No, do not give Phil a lozenge. Oh, wait, those are Reese's Pieces. I haven't laughed in days. Really? I haven't laughed in days. Poor Phil. Eddie, get your finger away from me, Phil. You are so naughty. Yeah, Phil, you're naughty. You're a naughty little boy. Yeah, you're a naughty little boy. Phil! Yeah, Phil! So it's past 7 o'clock and I had it on Channel 7. So did we miss the press conference, man? What's that in the little corner? I don't know. I think we missed the press conference with the mayor. Son of a gun. We'll get you updated on what he said.
is a bummer. And let me know when we got a new update, Ash. You can tell me on the air. So what I'm reading, it says the mayor said that federal help is on the way. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is expected to start delivering supplies. For thousands of evacuees as early as today, at the moment, 19 shelters are open around the county, including Qualcomm and the Del Mar Fairgrounds. And again, you can go to www.sdarc.org to find out what kind of volunteers, supplies, and stuff you need for the Red Cross. You know, they were just showing a map of San Diego County, and where there was a ton of fires yesterday, there are less today. Which hopefully means they're containing some. I read that the San Marcos-San Alejo Hills completely stabilized. What do you got, Ash? I was going to say, Rick is ready for a traffic report if you want to check in with him real quick. Absolutely. Rick, what's going on out there? Hey, Mikey. You know what? Not much. A lot of people, I think, are just staying home today. You know, for good reason.
There's virtually no traffic on the freeways to talk about at all. Just as you've been getting just reports about more evacuations, I guess, voluntary evacuations now in the South Bay, like around Brownfield and some parts of Otay Lakes down in Chula Vista, this area right now, as that fire starts burning that direction. But again, it's not that close, but it's voluntary. So you've got that going. But other than that, you know, the freeways are pretty quiet, just the same closures in place. If you're heading north in the 15, you're going to get shut down right around Rainbow Valley Road. That's where the freeway is closed off, so you pretty much cannot access up there north of that into Temecula. If you're coming out of, let's say... Hey, Rick. Sorry, I don't mean to cut you off, but we've been getting P1s calling in saying that they have been able to make it through on the northbound 15. To Temecula? Yeah, they said from Escondido all the way through and past. And people called from the 76 overpass saying that they saw traffic going both ways. The 76, yeah, I've been hearing it's okay right now, but that's good. Hey, Rick, give out that number that you have again where people can call you. Yeah, I was just going to suggest that. Thanks, man. Yeah, you guys, your P1s have been great. I mean, yesterday you saved my life pretty much as far as just getting the information out here thanks to you guys. And, yeah, you can do that again today because sometimes, you know,
They're saying, well, it's closed now, but now it's not. I count on you guys who are actually basically on the front lines there. The number is 858-467. Again, that's 858-467-0504. Yeah, give me a call. Let me know what you're seeing out there right now, especially on this closures when they're telling me that, hey, Northbound 15 is closed down, and you guys are calling and saying, no, it's not. So I trust you guys actually a lot more than what they're telling me on this end. But other than that, it is pretty quiet. I know for one thing, it was for sure. And that's the 8th freeway. The highway advisory is still in effect here from Willow's Road out to Ocotillo. And if you're driving a high-profile vehicle, like a big motorhome or a camper, they will not let you go through there. And if you're riding a motorcycle, you cannot access that as well all the way out to the Imperial County. But that's pretty much about it, man. Everything's just very quiet right now. Again, it's very strange. All right, Rick. I appreciate it, man. Thank you. You bet.
And we've got a new update under FM News update number two. Got it. I'm Delaina Bennett with AM600 COGO, and here's the latest on the evacuations going on in San Diego County. We are now up to a half million people evacuated in our county. There's a new round of mandatory evacuations to residents in parts of Wildcat Canyon and Mouth Valley. About 3,800 households are being evacuated. That's where the Witch Fire is burning this morning. Evacuees are being sent to Santana High School. About 1,800 households in San Diego County. And North Hamul and Indian Springs are also being told to evacuate the Harris Fire. And those residents can find shelter at Qualcomm Stadium. Here's a list of current evacuations in the north part of the county. Wildcat Canyon and Moth Valley. In Del Mar, west of the I-5. Del Mar area south of Del Dios Highway. North of Sereno Valley Road. And west of Black Mountain Road to the Ocean. Everything south of Scripps Poway Parkway. North of Miramar and east of Interstate 15. West of Highway 67. Scripps Ranch.
crest and harbison canyon west of the 15 to the ocean all residents of the communities must evacuate to orange county state beaches through camp pendleton on i-5 and authorized location centers are san mateo campground san clemente campground el toro high school in the lake forest and doheny state beach in the harris fire in our south bay area The Harris Fire is now at 22,000 acres, and the fire crested at Mount Miguel overnight, and it is burning on its west side heading towards Bonita. The fire is now threatening homes in Lyons Valley, Hamul, Spring Valley, the Skyline Truck Trail, and Barona. And it is burning in Honey Springs, Deerhorn Valley, and Agua Tibia as it is continuing to move west. There's a current list of evacuations going on in the South Bay, North Hamul and Indian Springs, Spring Valley in the Mount Miguel area, Bella Lago in Chula Vista. Spring Valley area also includes Miller Ranch Road in Spring Valley, the area south of the 94, South Barcelona Street, south to the northern part of Streetwater Reservoir, Destiny Mountain, Lampara, Doubletree Road. And voluntary evacuations include Rolling Hills, San Miguel, Eastlake Woods, Pitts Valley.
and, of course, any area close to Mount Miguel. Also, mandatory evacuations at Barrett Junction, Engineer Springs, Del Zura, and all areas in between Potrero Park Road to the south, north of Highway 94, west of Harris Ranch Road, and east of Potrero Valley Road. Up near the La Jolla, India Reservation, there's a new fire there burning 400 acres, and that is burning towards Rencon, which was the evacuation center. There are some homes destroyed, and the fire is headed up the east side of Palomar Mountain. shelters for you if you are being evacuated. Qualcomm Stadium, Santana High School, Poway Community Park, Poway Girls and Boys Club, Campo Community Center, Mission Hills High School, Mira Mesa High School, Escondido High School, Del Mar Fairgrounds, Steel Canyon High, and San Marcos High School. School is closed, and if you need to evacuate your livestock, most of the evacuation areas are full. However, the Flying A Ranch at Buckman Springs can take horses at this point.
Also, Mayor Jerry Sanders in a recent news conference said that the evacuation centers do need water and supplies. Water, cots, blankets, anything, prepackaged food, anything that you can contribute would be appreciated and used. I'll update you very soon. I'm Delaina Bennett, AM600 COGO. All right. Yeah, what I just actually saw scrolling across the bottom of our TV screen was something else that the mayor said in his press conference. He's reminding people, stay at home today. Obviously, if it's safe, if you haven't been evacuated, stay at home, stay off the street, stay safe. And also reminding people, please don't use your cell phone unless you really, really need to because it's jamming up signals for emergency people needing to use those. Yeah, Sean, didn't you try to call us yesterday and you got a busy signal? Yeah, I tried a couple of times. times and then you know remember that they didn't want people to use uh or to use their cell phones in the area and so i stopped but yeah each time i tried it gave that you know that weird like all circuits are busy thing that you don't hear too often yeah i was trying to get a hold of rebecca yesterday and just couldn't get through to her on the cell phone from our home phone no way could i get through um so it's gonna be like that probably for a little bit
The only one I wonder is when the cedar fires came through, I wonder if those areas that were affected by the cedar fires back in the day, were they affected again? Or was there nothing to burn because it's, you know what I mean? Does that make sense, what my question is? Yeah, because I've heard different newscasters. Like one was saying, oh, it's moving towards the Cedar Fire area, which is kind of good because there's minimal brush. But then I would hear a different newscaster on another station being saying, oh, it would just be so tragic if these people lost their homes again after they just rebuilt, which leads me to believe there was the threat of burning structure. So, you know, it all depends on who you listen to. P1 Andre, are you there? Yeah, how's it going? Good, man. I had a good idea I came across last night that I play in a local band, and we played in many venues, like Soma and a couple other places, and we're willing, actually, to go around to these evacuee stations and play shows if they were allowed. You know, the only thing I can think about that, and it's an extraordinarily nice gesture, and I know that it's coming from a great place, the only thing about it is that...
I dig that kind of music and a lot of people dig that kind of music, but imagine the senior citizens that are out there whose nerves are already shot and they're all freaked out and then all of a sudden these amps turn on and, you know, loud rock starts playing and may freak them out. So, although I think... Kind of give them something to do, maybe take their mind off what's going on right now, you know? I think it's great. I think it's great for everybody, you know, everybody that's into it, but people that are older, that are like... already nervous and jittery, it may freak them out, man. Sure, I didn't think about that. But I think it's a great idea. And at some point, you know, maybe we can do some sort of a benefit or something like that and then call me back because if we do a benefit, maybe we could have people pay, you know, go see you play, that kind of stuff and donate the money to people that need it. Totally. All right, man, thanks. All right, Mike, thanks. We'll see you. All right, so I told you that I would sprinkle in normal stuff. other news going on besides the fires. How about this one? How about a little eight-year-old girl running up to Avril Lavigne asking for a picture and Avril says no. And the little girl's crying, going back to her mom. What did it happen?
I guess it was at a friend's wedding. One of Avril's friends was getting married. So she was there attending the wedding. And then also this eight-year-old girl was there attending the wedding to a guest. And I guess Avril was in the middle of talking to friends. According to witnesses, this little girl rushed up to Avril and was reportedly gushing that she's a huge fan and she loves her so much. And so could she please take a picture with her? And according to witnesses, Avril scrunched up her face. threw gritted teeth, said, no, I don't want to. And then the little girl ran away in tears. Very sweet. Hey, this one's pretty good. This is going to air tonight on Spike TV. It's the 2007 Scream or Scream 2007 Awards. It's going to air tonight. And this is what happens when Paris Hilton walks out on stage. Cut eight. Hey, everybody. What's up? I'd like to say Anthony and Bill are two of the sickest fans. I've ever met. And that's saying something. Well, thank you, Paris. I'd just like to say this woman can sing, she can dance, and she can bleed like a pro. Whoa. Sounds like a real warm welcome. She's popular. Yeah. Oh, my gosh. Holy moly. Awkward. That was really awkward. That's going to be on TV tonight. We hate you. You want to hear some real...
hard-hitting reporting on the California fires from Entertainment Tonight. Oh, finally. Well, like, when you want the real stuff, like, give it to me. I just want information. Just the facts. Just the facts, man. Mary Hart, please. Cut six. Throughout the day and night, the battle continued. Police wearing masks, helicopters making continuous water drops, and residents racing to save pets and loved ones. Entertainment Tonight producer, Kanan Rubin, on the scene. This is... is Dick Van Dyke's car. No one has seen Dick Van Dyke. Oh, my goodness. Well, no. I mean, who should we call? What should we do? What do we do now? Larry Himmel's got his middle finger up right now. I mean, are you kidding me? Nobody's seen him. Yeah, I'm concerned. Are you kidding me? I mean, his car's right here, but he's nowhere to be found. Where is he? Attention, citizens of San Diego. Oh, my God. If you've seen Dick Van Dyke, Please call someone and tell them that you saw Dick Van Dyke. Stupid. Check the Kogo website. Get little Nicholas on the line. Are you kidding me? This is Dick Van Dyke's car. It's now seven is enough. No, that's Dick Van Patten. Oh, no, I'm thinking. What?
I know, that's even worse, right? Diagnosis murder? Come on! Oh, no! Where's Marlo Thomas? Wow. Hey, listen, when you want to know, Entertainment Tonight's there for me. Yeah, dude. Yeah, because my wife, when I got home yesterday, you know, when we were talking about all the evacuation stuff, the first thing she said to me is, do you know anything about Dick Van Dyke? Well, I think that's everybody's biggest concern. That's what my wife said. Yeah. My husband knew not to even ask. Yeah, because he knew it would upset you. It would be too upsetting. Hope they do a follow-up on that. This guy came home and went, ask me anything, but do not ask about Dick Van Dyke. I'm not in a place right now. Don't even tell me you don't know where Dick is. I can't. Not today. I hope they found Dick Van Dyke. Right.
Sky, what do you got? Another little tidbit coming through is that San Diego officials are asking people to conserve power today. I guess with a lot of people running their ACs, it's, you know, a big drain on the system because you're trying to condition the air. So they're saying, you know, don't do things that aren't essential. Like, don't do your laundry if you don't need to. Don't wash your dishes if you don't need to. Hey, listen, laundry, dishes, I get it. Right. That air conditioner is kind of keeping people breathing better. No, and that's what they're saying. If you're going to use any power in your house, that's what you should use it for. Because in this fire hazard, that's a necessity. But they're saying don't use things that are not a necessity. I'm down with that. I think that's a good idea. Yeah, keep the lights off in rooms that you're not in. And just whatever you can do to try and conserve power today, obviously, without putting yourself at any sort of health risk. That's a good idea. Hey, Boston Rob. Yo. Do the Colts scare you? Nah. Really? We're a different team this year. What do you mean, nah? Well, I mean, they're undefeated. I mean, Rob, they're undefeated too, you know. How can you say nah? We had 42 points in the first half last week. I get it. Okay. And I mean, it was only Miami, but dude, Brady's got weapons this year. Like, he's got a bunch of people. Hey, there's no doubt about it. They're the scariest looking team offensively I think I've seen ever. I don't even think Brady looks when he passes to Moss. I think he just throws it. Like, it's kind of ridiculous.
So the Colts don't scare you at all, huh? I mean, I'm going to have a little bit of nerves going into it. Eddie was offended by that. Well, it's ridiculous. They're the defending champions. They're better than they were last year. And they owned you the last three times you guys played. And we're 10 times better than that. When it comes to the Patriots, Rob is cocky and ignorant. So he just let him go. She's right. Just let him go. You know what I mean? Well, it's Tom Brady. When do they play each other? November 4th. Not this Sunday, but the next Sunday. November 4th. When? I know the answer. Shut up. I have the answer. It's next Sunday. Wait, Eddie, it's okay. Rob, when are they playing? He doesn't even know. It's not this Sunday. It's next Sunday. November 4th. I wish Rob would tell me. People that aren't good with calendars. Not this Sunday. Does anybody know when they play? Oh, my God. You're stupid. So we're now catering to the audience that's not good with calendars. There are some people out there displaced that don't even have calendars. Nah. Right? Nah. For you people, the game is not this Sunday, but the next. Right. Hey, listen. I hope neither of them has a bye this Sunday. Nope. Okay, good. And I hope they both win because I want to go into this game. I want to go into this game with them undefeated.
Yeah, for sure. Listen, I think the Patriots will win, but I think that if there's a team to scare them, it should be the Colts. It'll be a good game. Nah. Nah. Nah. Wah. Nah. Wah. Eddie, if it keeps going the way it's going, Tom Brady is going to shatter. He's going to... shatter every record. Ever. Well, the touchdown record is 49 held by Peyton Manning. He did a couple years ago. And at this point in the season, he had 22 touchdown passes. Tom Brady right now has 27. Damn. So, I mean, he's definitely on pace to shatter that record. Now, it makes me think this. No doubt about it, Marvin Harrison is an all-pro. He's an all-pro. I wonder... If Peyton Manning had had Randy Moss, Peyton Manning would be putting up even better numbers than Tom Brady. Well, you know, first of all, Ben Watson, Randy Moss, this Welker who's just turned into a stud. And what if Peyton Manning had that? Now listen, he had studs too. And Marvin's hurt right now. No, I'm talking about his record-breaking year in 05.
I mean, you could practically put anybody with those guys. It was pretty crazy last night. They were saying a couple of stats that blew my mind. That Joe Namath, the most touchdowns he ever had in a season was 26. Right now, Tom Brady has 27 through seven games. Wow. That's nuts. Ron Jaworski, 27, most he ever had in a season. Damn. And we're seven games in. Only seven games in. We're not even to the halfway point. Eight games at halfway point. But if you're the other team and you're the defensive coordinator and you're sitting in a room today and you're going, all right, we got the Patriots this weekend. So how do we stop Randy Moss? Because Miami put three dudes on him and that didn't work. Well, we can't put three guys on him anyway because then he'll go to Stallworth or Welker or Watson. Why don't we just call it... Why don't we just...
Throw the white flag in and say we already lose the game. Just give the game up. Vanessa Williams may be dating Vince Vaughn. Vanessa Williams, you know, former Miss America. Ugly Betty. Well, that's not nice to say about her. She's on the show. She's really pretty. She's one of the main characters on the TV show, Ugly Betty. Vanessa Williams and Vince Vaughn? Yeah, because isn't she real old? She's 44. Oh, I thought she was way older than that. Yeah, no, she's 44. That's weird. I honestly thought that she was in her 50s. I did too, yeah. Not that that's really old, but I meant really old in comparison to Vince Vaughn. Yes. Because 55 is not really old. It's just that I'm like, he's like old. How old is Vince Vaughn? 37. Oh, and I was thinking he was like 32. Yeah, I did too. I thought he was 33.
Yeah, so sources say that they're working really hard to keep their relationship under wraps because they both have gone through serious media scrutiny for their past failed relationship, so they don't want this relationship to be a victim of that. P1 Nick. Nick, are you there? Yes, I got a question for Eddie. Go ahead. If Eddie's starting, if you're starting your own team, who would you rather have as your quarterback, Brady or Manning? Oh, look at Eddie. He was like, why? Don't do it. Don't ask this. That is the most impossible question you could ask because they're both equally awesome. Peyton Brady. Brady Manning. I think I would take Peyton. In your face, Rob. I disagree. In your face. Nobody asked you, Rob.
Well, I asked me. Thank you, Ski. Rob, you would really take Tom Brady? We're not talking about the prom, dude. I know you would. In his little cowboy outfit. Hey, you think we're kidding? Google images Tom Brady and you'll see we're not kidding. So gay. Ash. We got a new update. FM News Primary. Good morning. I'm Delaina Bennett from AM600 Kogo. Here's the latest on the fire in San Diego County and on the evacuations. We're now up to a half million evacuations here in San Diego County. In a news conference this morning, Fire Chief Tracy Jarman said we are probably in the most critical time of this firestorm. And Mayor Sanders said that they urge you to stay at home and stay off the roads if you can. Emergency service officials are also asking you to not use your cell phone in this critical time. evacuations to residents in parts of San Diego County. Also, El Toro High School is available to you. FEMA is supposed to give federal assistance They are bringing in 25,000 cots and 25,000 blankets to evacuees, and they will also start reimbursements as soon as they possibly can. And the Harris Fire in the South Bay today, it is burning 22,000 acres at this point, and the fire crested overnight on Mount Miguel. It is burning on its west side, heading towards Bonita. And that fire is now threatening homes in Lions Valley, Hamul, Spring Valley, the Skyline Truck Trail, and Barona. And it is also burning in Honey Springs, Deerhorn Valley, and Agua Tibia. It's continuing to move west. Here is a list of evacuations in the South Bay because of the Harris Fire. North Hamul in Indian Springs. Spring Valley in the Mount Miguel area. Bella Lago in Chula Vista. Spring Valley.
And that includes Miller Ranch Road in Spring Valley, south of the 94, South Barcelona Street, south to the northern part of Sweetwater Reservoir, Destiny Mountain, Lampara, Doubletree Road. And they're also calling for voluntary evacuations of Rolling Hills and Chula Vista, San Miguel, Eastlake Woods, and Pitts Valley. They are still conducting search and rescue operations to look for travelers within that fire perimeter. Some other mandatory evacuations in the South Bay. Barrett Junction, Engineer Springs, Del Zura, and all areas in between. Potrero Park Road to the south, north of Highway 94, and west of Harris Ranch Road, east of Potrero Valley Road. The Fallbrook Fire. It is the Rice Fire. Already, 45,000 residents have been evacuated there, and fire is burning on the southern and northern edge of Fallbrook. At the La Jolla Indian Reservation, a fire broke out overnight, and it is over 400 acres burning at this point, burning towards Harrah's Rincon Casino and the reservation. It's on the east side of Palomar Mountain. In shelters, here's where you can go if you're being evacuated.
Qualcomm Stadium, Santana High School, Poway Community Park, Poway Girls and Boys Club, Campo Community Center, Mission Hills High, Mira Mesa High, Escondido High School, the Del Mar Fairgrounds, Steel Canyon High, and San Marcos High School. All schools in San Diego County are closed today. UCSD hospitals and health care are open and operational. However, Fallbrook and Pomerado hospitals have been evacuated and are not taking patients. U-Haul is offering 30 days of free storage for evacuees. have items that you need to store first-come, first-served basis. If you're in the military and you need information on housing, you can call 858-577-9090. I'm Delaina Bennett, AM600 COGO. Alright, there's the latest. That's what's happening. Are we late? We can't do anything anyway. I can't do anything with it anyway. It's kind of like the 28-hour show. We just gotta go. We got to go for as long as we can. God, didn't we just do this? I know it. Tara Reid, they say, may have liver and pancreas problems. Whoa. Yeah. Yeah, that's no joke. They say that doctors found that she had elevated enzymes in her liver, possibly related to alcohol abuse. They say she's checked herself into a hospital in Marina del Rey.
and that she is being quite uncooperative to the hospital staff there. Hmm. I wonder what that means. I don't know. She doesn't want Jell-O. Yeah, I'm a diva. Different flavor. Yeah. Jell-O sucks. I hate Jell-O. Whoa! How dare you? It's gross. Whoa, statement. Always room for Jell-O. Man. No, dude, it feels weird in your mouth. It's all flappy. What if it's cut in cool shapes, bro? Ooh. Lame. The shapes. The shapes make it fun. Just like pancakes or mac and cheese. If it's in shapes, way better.
I mean, watch it wiggle, see it jiggle. I prefer the cherry flavor. Yeah, the worst is when they put stuff inside of it. And then it's wiggling around, but oh, what's this? Raisin. Oh, the pieces of fruit. Yeah. Oh, this part wiggles and this part doesn't wiggle. Yeah, this part's got to wiggle, that part no wiggle. It's a consistency. Okay. Yeah, you're all bouncy and you're a pineapple. I mean, this part says jiggle, that part says don't jiggle. Say, yeah, whatever you want to do. You jiggly thing in my mouth. So anyway, the fire's right now. Yes, please. Dude, I was just seeing that. So there's a total of 10 fires burning right now in Southern California. And the Witch Creek fire is the number one priority of all the fires burning in California right now. Is that right? Yeah. Now, that was the one that was like...
on a rampage jumping over the 15, right? Yeah, that's the one that started out in Ramona and then merged with the San Pasquale Fire and then burned out Rancho Bernardo and Poway and then jumped over to the Lake Hodges area and then also is still burning out in the Bear Valley area. Oh, yeah. I hope they get a handle on that. It was making me mad yesterday. What? Well, I was watching the national news and it irritated me that we weren't getting our due. In San Diego. Really? Like, nationally, they thought it was a bigger deal to talk about Malibu. Right. You know what I mean? Oh, because that's where the celebrities go. Right. And I was like, you know what, man? Malibu, and I know that in the big picture, what do we care? But it bothered me. Like, there's more people going through stuff here than James Cameron.
Yeah. Well, if you go to CNN.com, I mean, you know, like their top three stories are all about it, and they have pictures of people sleeping out at Qualcomm on the front of CNN.com. When's Bush going to get here? Well, Bush did comment. He did declare a state of emergency yesterday in seven Southern California counties and, you know, promised help and everything. Here I am. That's news to me. Oh, I didn't know you were actually going to ask. Here he is. Thank you. I'm here to help, everybody. What's going on, President Bush? I got my little fireman outfit on, and I'm taking on the front lines. I don't think that's... Where should I head off? Well, you're not a trained professional. I think we need every hand we can get. Well, I don't think the Secret Service would allow you to go to the front line in your little outfit. I've got Archie and Jughead with me, and we're going to fight these fires. No, you're not, President Bush. I got my super soaker. Wait. Okay, President Bush. I'm good to go. Super soaker. Let's do this. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard, President Bush. I don't think that's going to help. A lot of people. Quick question, though. I know that we're talking about the fires and whatnot, but more importantly, does anybody know if Marie Osmond is okay? President Bush. Anybody? Is she okay?
Can you focus? I watched that show and I was really worried last night. I declared a state of emergency after that. Wait, because of Marie Osmond? Well, yeah. Stupid. She just fainted. It wasn't a big deal. Make sure you vote for her. She was just winded doing the samba. That's all. That's true, actually. That happens a lot. Yes, that's what she said. That's what she said. Anybody hear about Dick Van Dyke? Where is he? Why are you laughing? Thank you. Thank you, President Bush. That's our very honorable... for that exclusive president george w bush what what sky you think oh i well i'm sorry i saw the white hair and the blue button up out of the corner of my eye and i thought it was the mayor but it was like the county supervisor so he's not as big a deal yeah girl that's signing's got carpal tunnel now yeah i mean she's been signing non-stop it's the same lady too i know i guess they don't have like a backup for the you know sign language lady jeez they only have one sign language lady that's got to do the work for everybody
That would be the worst job in the world for me because of my lack of focus. You think he says this? Yeah. They're like, he just said something about Whataburger. You're signing stuff that you're thinking in your head. Right. Pick up orange juice. Get a Miller Lite. The filling tastes great. Yeah. That's a bad job for me. Oh, man. Let's see. What else is going on? Let me give you some other stuff besides the fires. Which I hope people are okay with. Yeah. I hope people are like, yeah, dude, I mean, the only reason I'm doing it is because that's how I'd be. Like, I want fire information, but give me some of the rest of the world, too. It's almost like breathing some fresh air. I think it's like breathing fresh air knowing that David Copperfield canceled some shows because of the FBI raid. Which, I don't know why. My instinct says he... I don't know. I don't know. Yeah. Like the whole thing is confusing to me because we heard like it was last week that David Copperfield, like a storage units belonging to him were raided by the FBI and searched and that they took away like computers and hard drives and stuff like that. And but we didn't know why. No one knew why. And then a couple of days later, it comes out that because he has allegedly been accused of rape.
But then I'm thinking about it. If someone is accused of rape, why are they going through their storage unit? And why are they taking a digital camera and card reader? And why are they taking his computer? Did he take pictures of it? Yeah. Did he post it? The whole thing is just really, really weird. But David Copperfield has canceled a month worth of shows that were scheduled for Southeast Asia. Can you imagine that guy is so... He comes in contact with so much cash that he's been able to, like a little chipmunk, pack away two mil in cash. In cash. It's not even in a bank. It's in his storage unit in a safe or something. It's crazy. And you know that's for a rainy day. Can you imagine that? And by the way, dude, if you needed it for a rainy day, how are you actually going to go about utilizing it? Yeah. Let me go grab a hundred thou. Because you can't carry it out with you. No.
You can't carry the two million out with you at once. Yeah, there's not a purse that big. Yeah. So the statement has been issued on behalf of David Copperfield in regards to the rape allegations. The statement says it's important these allegations be put in perspective. Although authorities have not revealed her identity to us, we know these allegations are false because David Copperfield has never forced himself on anyone. Okay. You're saying it. It must be true, sir. Well, and according to them, they don't even know the identity of the woman who is accusing him of this. Trust me, there's no purse that'll hold two mil. I've looked. I mean, seriously, we're going to take it there. Not even a backpack, really. If I could find a backpack that looked fashionable yet carried two mil, I'd have it. They made a coach backpack that could carry two mil. Stop. Sort of like a Jans port. At one point... At one point, I even tried having, like, a Costanza wallet. Yeah. I was like, one mil! 1.7! 1.8! Oh, no! Everywhere. Money everywhere. Can't get two men. Ah, touch the ground. I don't need it anymore. Filthy. Yuck. That's a filthy .8. Run away. What? First time I've chuckled in... Oh.
Dude. Yeah, this is actually the first time I've laughed. Say thank you, Mikey Show, for putting a little smile on this little old face. You guys are being jerks right now. How are we being jerks? Because you're mocking the fact that you guys made me laugh this morning and that it was nice to feel that laughter. I think that's great, too. Here's Skye for you. Oh, man. Oh, man. How is this relevant? It's for you. Yes. It's for me. This guy's singing Amazing Grace. It's your favorite. It's Amazing Grace. No, he's singing Amazing Grace. Well, he's trying it. You can fill in the blanks. Thank you. Thank you. It's a little off key, but he's got a lot of spirit. Great.
Thank you. That's great. That clip is three minutes long. And about 20 seconds into it, you know that the guy in charge of the microphone began his thought of, oh, how do I stop this? Make it stop. And it took him the whole three minutes to finally say, okay, thank you. We got it. Appreciate that. Brad and Angelina are producing an HBO series about international aid. Oh, boy. I bet that's going to... I can't wait. That's your TiVo, people. Well, no, you guys, it's really interesting. It's about the behind-the-scenes stuff that we don't know about in regards to international. How do you un-Tivo something? So how do you make sure your TiVo doesn't actually make it? It never actually gets to the TiVo. Blocked. Yeah, how do you make it so your TiVo doesn't make a mistake and accidentally tape that? Brutal.
You think about it. I mean, Donald Trump's right. This was the chick that was Frenching her brother. It was so mean when he was saying it, but I was kind of like, she's got so much humanitarian. This is the girl that was Frenching her brother. So they say part of the focus of the series will show Angelina's work as a goodwill ambassador to the United Nations. Like, she's suddenly, like, seriously, like, she's like a politician. She carried a vial of blood around to, you know, Billy Bob Thornton. See, at the Oscars, she said she had just made love to Billy Bob Thornton in a limousine. Well, what are you going to do? 570-1053 is our phone number. And today, you can call about anything you want today. We're not limiting it to the beginning and the end of the show. You can call about anything you want at any time. New York is making it a felony to display a noose. Is this after the stuff that happened in Gina? And what state is it? Louisiana. The Gina 6.
Yeah, they do talk about that, but they also say since that incident in Gina, Louisiana, that there have been at least three incidents in the New York area of nooses being hung in places. Are they going to send a memo to potential noose makers? How's it going to deter? The noose makers need to get the information and be like, okay. Yeah, I don't know. Maybe they hear it on the news. I guess I won't be doing that anymore. But yeah, so the Senate, the New York Senate, passed it on Monday to make it a felony. The Assembly still needs to consider the bill today. But they say that the bill to make displaying a noose a felony would also cover etching, drawing, or painting a noose. Why are they laughing? I don't know. What happened? What happened? No, they won't look at me and they're laughing. So I'm sure it's something. It isn't. It isn't. It isn't. Oh. It isn't. Really? So like I said, the bill would also. It's not. I swear. It has nothing to do with you. I know. The bill will also make etching, drawing, or even painting the symbol a felony, which I think is a little excessive. I'm going to copy and paste the IM that Eddie just sent to me to Sean.
It doesn't end you, even, Sky. This is the I am that Eddie just sent me. So juvenile, man. You are. Sean, do you know about that? I have tears coming out of my eyes. Do you see that? Yes. Do you know about the story, Sean? Do you know about the story? No. What? I cannot say what the instant message says, but I will say this very appropriately. The character... Is it? How do you pronounce it? Dumbledore. Dumbledore. J.K. Rowling has made this sort of announcement that he is gay and she wants the world to know it. Is that correct, Eddie? Yeah. And I'm sure too.
Some people, this was really a surprise. Well, I guess it had kind of been rumored in the Harry Potter community that this could be a fact. And I believe it was on Friday during a press conference. Somebody asked about his love interest and she confirmed that he was interested in another wizard. Come on. So deal with it, Harry Potter community. Dumbledore is gay. They're freaking out. Yes. They're freaking out. That's not his wand. Okay. Thank you. This is a big story. Hey, did you know that Kid Rock had actually predicted the Waffle House incident? Well, he said something so offhanded and it turned out to be true. Cut five. I'm in front of the judge, and he's sentencing me. He says, and apparently they'd worked out a plea deal or plea agreement. And apparently you're also going to have to, you're not allowed to go into Nashville, a gentleman's club establishment for one year. I'm like, excuse me, your honor? He kind of looks at me like, and I'm like, if I was to smack someone at the Waffle House, would I not be allowed there for a year as well? No. He said that October 5th.
That's crazy. And then two days ago, he just got in trouble for getting in a fight at the Waffle House. Guy's a clairvoyant. Who knew? No new updates, right, Ash? Nope. Yeah, I should give you some of this audio that we have of the mayor. This was the mayor yesterday. Cut 25. This is an extremely quick-moving fire. Probably one like we've never seen before because of the strong winds and the heavy smoke. Because of that, we're unable to use air assets because they can't get close enough, they can't see, and it's hazardous. Go ahead. I'll put it on 7. Yeah. Because I think Matt Lauer is going to talk to Schwarzenegger. Oh, okay, cool. To the governor. Let's see. We waited about 1,000 people from this area. It's the Portola Hills area of Orange County, and it's an area of some subdivisions. They're showing a live shot of Orange County on Channel 7. Let's see.
Channel 6, you could see Matt Lauer. That was on... Was it 6? What was that on? Yeah, it was 6, and you saw them setting up for the shot of Matt Lauer talking to the governor. Which one should I put it on you guys? Leave it there. They're probably just setting it up. We still see fire trucks in the area, traffic being diverted from the area. This fire is 30% contained, but still very dangerous. Orange County. Let's see. P1 Jeff. 30% contained. What's up, Jeff? Hey, how's it going? Hey, I just wanted to say that back to Eddie's theory that everybody that calls people boss has been in jail before prison, and I've been known to call people that, and I just wanted to tell you guys that I've never been to prison. Now, where did you get it from? Well, I got it from one of my buddies that worked in Escondido, and he had never been to prison either.
And he said it, and I just remember that I just automatically started saying it, too. I know it sounded cool or whatever. It doesn't matter. Ever since Eddie said it, anytime somebody calls me boss, I'm convinced they were in prison. Doesn't matter. Thank you. All right, here it is. All right, Lester, thanks for the report. I appreciate it very much. And we're here now with a man who says he will be relentless in fighting these fires, California's governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Governor, nice to have you here this morning. Thanks very much. He just crushed Matt's hand. Let me start with the overnight news from Washington. President Bush says he's going to declare these seven counties in Southern California federal emergency areas. And we've been saying all morning that means resources. What exactly does it mean? What are you going to get from the federal government? Well, I think the important thing is that we get the help if it is airplanes to drop water, if it is the military that is available to give us the cards and the blankets and the manpower. If it is money, then to rebuild the homes and so on. So it's financial help and also manpower. And it's been really good because...
get that quick the response was really extraordinary. We were very happy with the president's response. Does it mean that the state resources still take the primary role or is this now being fought by the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA? No, I think that the only way you can fight those fires is if the locals and the state and the federal government all work together. I think that we've seen in the past when they don't coordinate well together and what happens this time they coordinate really well together. I think we have learned from the mistakes of the past that And now the response has been great. I mean, Secretary Chertoff is going to come out with the head of FEMA today and is going to look around the area. We have gotten everything that we needed so far from the federal government. You know what? You know what that just made me think? You guys remember how tough it was on Nagin in the days after Katrina. So this is going to define Mayor Sanders. Oh, yeah, for sure. It's going to define him. And we're not even to the point where we can start the clock ticking. Because there came a point very quickly after Katrina where you were able to hit the stopwatch on Nagin. And people got impatient and then it just got out of control. And forget it, it was like he'd lost everybody. So it's going to be really interesting to see how Sanders responds to this and also how well Schwarzenegger...
does what he just said gets bush in on it gets the country is fema going to be coordinated or is it going to be a big mess and everybody's all over the place and hey i need fema i've been calling for fema for you know four months nothing's happening you know that kind of deal how would you rate the state's response i mean in terms of preparedness because this is the time of year where this sort of thing happens the santa ana winds blow and the fires break out were you ready as a state I think that we, since we have fires all the time, I mean, from spring all the way through the year, and the fires now start even much earlier than ever before because I think it's partially of global warming. I think that we are so well prepared. He's the best, man. He's the best. No clue. It's such a trip. We're sitting here looking in the background from Arnold Schwarzenegger. By the way, Arnold Schwarzenegger is our governor. Wait. Huh? You know, the star of the Terminator and twins. Predator? Just in case you were in a coma. Yeah, he's our governor. So first of all, you're looking at a movie star and he's talking to Matt Lauer in Rancho Bernardo with a Longs in the background. So that's a trip. But then I'm thinking to myself, like, I wonder if Schwarzenegger ever says to himself, like, how did I get myself into this? Like, I'm having to figure this out. I'm a movie star.
I'm just supposed to be driving around my H3 the whole deal. The most prepared, the best trained fire team in the world, literally. And we have also all the equipment. And I think with the help of the federal government and having the agreements with neighboring states where we get equipment in, trucks and their manpower and so on, that we have been very well prepared. And I think that you could see how quickly the action happened, how quickly the fire department responded here. Talk to me a little bit. I know you've been in this area. You talked to some people who were at an evacuation center, not far from here, actually. What did you find? I mean, personally, first of all, when you saw some of the devastated areas, what's your personal reaction? First of all, you've got to make sure that you pay attention to two things. One is to fight the fires, and the other one is, what do you do with the people that are being evacuated? Because we have over 350,000 people that are being evacuated. Think about this, 300,000 just right here in San Diego County. They all go to Volcom. Volcom? Volcom? It's the Battle of the Valkyries. Volcom's a skate company. Huh?
Well, you go to the Volcom and, you know. Rusty. Yeah. O'Neill. Is that how you say it? Whatever. Como se dice. We have Telmar, which is another place where they go. Now he's just showing off. The Mule, the Temecula. The Rancho Certofea. Yeah, the Forest Ranch. Did I mention Elfin Forest? Shut up, Matt. I took four cases of shaman down there myself just this morning. Which I used. That's right. Me first. To make sure that they all get together. and bring food to this place, bring water, the thousands of bottles of water. So it cruised around there. Then they found another shelter where there were vulnerable citizens. And let's find out if we can what they need at Qualcomm. So we can announce on the radio specifically what they need. Because, Skye, didn't you say something about breakfast? Well, that's what I was hearing when I was driving into work at, you know, like 4.30 this morning. So I don't know if they're still in need of packaged foods and stuff like that.
I mean, I definitely see them still having a need, like Eddie was saying, for the tents, for the blankets, for air mattresses, really anything to kind of make these people more comfortable when they're out there. But I'll check with our news department at Kogo and let you know exactly what they still need. How are you doing, Jay? Is your place, where do you, I don't even know where you live, bro. I live up in Cardiff. You doing all right? Yeah, we're doing pretty good. You know, a lot of smoke. Solana Beach, I know, was under a, not mandatory, but a volunteer evacuation. You know what the crazy thing is? You watch the news and they're doing reruns, playing things back, showing pictures from before. I never really get a confident feeling where the fire is. That's true. And not only that, I know that a lot of people must be frustrated with this aspect. If they evacuate you, when can I go back? If my place doesn't get burned, when is it okay to go back? Because that's what everyone wants to do and know. Everybody wants to go back. So Wayne Canyon, that information isn't the easiest information to come by.
Yeah, and what I found frustrating is those evacuation maps. It's like every news station has a different map, and some of them look like, you know, their kids' room with crayon. Because, you know, like one, because I was staying, I had to stay at my parents' in San Marcos last night, and we're watching one news channel, and their house is on the evacuation map. We're watching another channel. It's not, you know? Exactly. One of the evacuation maps pretty much had... all of North County evacuating. And I'm like, well, there would have been a big announcement if that... Voluntary, mandatory. Yes, yeah. So it's very confusing. I have not seen the outdoors with the sun yet because the sun's coming up and I haven't seen what's going on out there. So yesterday it was just... Everything looks smoky. Jay, what did it look like this morning? It seems a lot better today. I mean, when we woke up today, the sun, you know, the sun was actually, you could see the sun. It wasn't just like a red ball in the sky, which was, that was super airy yesterday. Yeah, it was. But, yeah, everything kind of seems, it didn't seem to be as much ash, but, you know, I don't know if it's just because the wind's kind of shifted or what.
Let's hear more of Governor Schwarzenegger. A nursery home has to be evacuated. So now you have 300 old people lying there in those carts. And some of them needed dialysis. Some had heart problems. Some didn't have their medication. So you have to check, do they have enough nurses? Do they have enough doctors? Who is really in charge of this operation? And you find out that there's no one in charge. Now you have to deputize someone and put them in charge of this operation. So they double the details. Did you just hear that? You've got 300 senior citizens. They're all on cots. You're trying to figure out what to do with them, and you realize no one's in charge. Oh. Yeah. Oh, my goodness. That's scary, man. Relentless. So I spent there to midnight to really make sure I wouldn't leave until we had ambulances arrived there, until we had space to bring those patients to a hospital so they get the attention they needed. I love this guy. I love Schwarzenegger. I do, man. Listen, I know a lot of guys would do that, but a lot of guys could get away with not doing it, if you understand what I'm saying. A lot of guys that are in the position that he's in could go out there, do a little bit of FaceTime, and be done with it, and nobody would ever ask questions, and nobody would ask anything. But he's out there doing it.
What do you got, Ash? For things that people need at Qualcomm Stadium, I've got a couple things I can list off. Go ahead. Mainly sleeping things. People would love blankets, pillows, anything that people can sleep on. Sleeping bags. Food, but of course it has to be... bought from the store. You don't want to bring anything from home that maybe you made. You can't take that. Car, cell phone chargers, eating utensils, toys or things for kids, books, anything to maybe keep these kids entertained. There's so many kids down there. Diapers, but primarily they would really appreciate sleeping things. Coats, pillows, sleeping bags, or I mean, cots, pillows, sleeping bags would be greatly appreciated. If you have that stuff, get it to Qualcomm. They need it. It's a scramble. But it's important at that point to show leadership and to really pull everyone together and to bring the necessary forces together. Two final things. You spoke to the president. What were his comments? What did he say that he was willing to do? First of all, did you talk about perhaps a visit here in the near future? Yes. First of all, let me just tell you that he immediately responded. I called him.
He called me first, and I called him back, and then there'll be an exchange. And then I got the voicemail. And then the second time, he called me, and he said, hey, man, what's up? I went straight to voicemail, and I said, oh, sorry. I had it on the silent. We were playing phone tag. I was like, oh, you tag your it. Yeah, yeah. Hold me back, whoosh. Shoot me a text. I think my exact words were, well, it looks like we're playing phone tag here. So you're it. Hook a brother up. Right. You can be back as soon as you can. Yeah, so then he texted me, and I looked at the text, and I think he intended it for something else. It just said 7 p.m. is cool. So I'm not even sure who he was talking to there. Phone calls and had great conversations and he always had great enthusiasm. What? I mean, he has enthusiasm. He doesn't speak English. Is that a disease? No, no, no. I think that there's a lot of enthusiastic people. I think that's a sleeping disease. It could be. Enthusiasm. I have that on my elbows.
Offer anything that you need. I know that the problems that you have out there. I'm going to send everyone out there. Talk to my chief. I've talked to someone. I've talked to FEMA. And I'm going to put everyone together. Send the machines. And we got the offer from everybody. Which leads me to my last question. And quickly, other than a break in the wind and a break in the weather, what's number one on your wish list? What do you need most? I think that the most we need is the weather. No, no. Because we have those really strong winds that, you know, throw the flames and send the flames to other areas. And then it starts another fire and another fire. We have now 16 fires in California here. We have 6,000 firefighters that are fighting. We have thousands of pieces of equipment and trucks and everything like that. So it spreads very quickly. We have never seen those kind of conditions. Look out, man. It's dry and we have a lot of wind. I will save you. Thank you very much. Thanks for joining me here this morning. He's right, man. That's what we need. We need to rain and we need to stop the winds. Yeah. Okay, we got Officer Autumn on the line. Are you there, P1 Officer Autumn? Hello. What's going on? We're doing good. Great. I'd like to let everybody know that the new donation location for everything except hot food at Qualcomm Stadium is going to be in Section A3. Okay, cool. We're writing that down. Section A, as in Apple, 3. For anything except for hot food, you're saying.
That is correct. And then the hot food can go to gate A. Okay. Do you suggest us going in off of fryers? Is that the best way to go in? Off the main gate? Yes, come in the main gate. Okay. Got it. Ready? Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you all. Bye. And I'm glad that they were saying what they were saying. See, a lot of people, out of the kindness of their heart, would maybe bring something that they've made. Yeah. But they can't take it. It's not you. It's just we don't know who's a wacko. Somebody put something bad in there. So they can only take stuff you buy from the store. That's the reason for it. They just want to make sure everything's on the up and up. As far as evacuations, we're going to get another update here in just a little bit. But I got to say, I think that today in many ways is a little encouraging because they've gotten some stuff completely contained. and other stuff is still burning like crazy, but, you know, firefighters here in San Diego County are doing the best they can. P1 Shogun. Hey, what's up, man? What's up, man? I just want to thank you guys this morning for making me laugh. It's been a long night. My mom's on the crew that's fighting the witch fire right now, and I haven't been able to talk to her the last few days. So I'm kind of worried about her, but...
I just want to thank everybody out there whose mom or dad is on those crews and helping those fires get out. It's a pain in the ass. But it's something that we all appreciate. And there's nothing more than I can say than just thank you so much. Thank you, man. And I hope your mom's all right. And let us know. I really hope so, too. Let us know, man. When you know, we'll remember the phone call. So let us know when you know that she's all right, will you? Yeah, man. No worries. All right. All right. Cool. Thanks. It's P1 Shogun. Let's see. Speaking of lightening the mood, P1 Mike's on the line. Hey, I am wondering if Skye ever got her birthday toast from her hubby and how that went. That's a great question. Absolutely. That is a legitimate question. Skye? Okay. Well, so there was no birthday celebration last night or anything. Yeah. So but Sunday night, we did go out to dinner with my friend Michelle and her husband because, you know, Michelle's birthday is tomorrow. So we always celebrate them together. And so our cocktails arrived and Michelle and I looked at each other and didn't say anything. And I wasn't going to say anything. And the guys start drinking their drink and they're yapping about football and this and that and whatever. And so finally, my friend.
Michelle, she's not shy, especially around people she knows well, basically said, so which one of you guys is going to toast us? Don't make us go through this like we did last year. And I looked at the table, and I looked around the restaurant just in case anyone was eavesdropping, and I said, for the record, I did not say any of that. So my husband and her husband looked at each other like, okay, who's going to have to do it? And my husband did it, and he did a wonderful job. Well, he had to. No, he was asked to. He was told that it needed to be done. I didn't say anything. Oh, so are you saying to me that if she hadn't said anything, the whole night would have gone by. Yeah. Gone to bed. With nothing being said. Well, because I was expecting my birthday toast from my husband at the dinner that we were planning on going to last night, which we didn't go to. So that's where I was expecting the toast to come from. But hey, I'll accept. I mean, it was a beautiful toast. As long as it happens. My husband did a wonderful job. As long as you make it happen. Well, it was made to happen. Well, Michelle was the enforcer this year. The toast enforcer. What? What did he say?
Oh, great question. He said something to the effect that we had. Oh, God, I'll be sleeping. I love you so much, babe. He gets very, like, formal with his toast, you know, like. He can't just flow like a normal person. He has to talk like a Hallmark card when he does a toast. Really? Yes. Can you give an example of that? Well, I will tell you what his toast consisted of. He thanked everyone for gathering on that special evening to celebrate an occasion and to celebrate the women in their lives that have made them into the men who they have. have uh become today and he was so thankful for us and our friendship and that hope that we had a wonderful birthday cheers that's so brutal which is so weird because that is not like how he talks i mean he talks like a normal human that's why he shouldn't be made to have he doesn't want to do it well i know it just reeks it just reeks of hey it's this isn't me i love you it's just not my thing he hates it
I despise it. No one has said that. He hates public speaking and stuff like that. He doesn't like it. Get over it. What about me? It wasn't me. You can't put any of this on me this year. Get out of here with that. You get out of here with that. Qualcomm Stadium. Come through the main entrance from Friars. Hot food can be brought to Gate A. Everything else can be brought to Section A3. This is what they need. Car, cell phone chargers, eating utensils, toys to help entertain the kids, diapers, pillows and sleeping bags, blankets, and cots. They really need that stuff. P1 Randia? Yeah, Randia. Randia. Good morning. Good morning. How you guys doing? Well, not bad. How you doing? We're doing good.
Listen, my question is, is for all of us that work out in these big hotels throughout the county, you know, I know they're not accepting food made out of people's homes. But if any one of us major hotel chains were to put together a platter of sandwiches or PB&J sandwiches for the kids and snacks like that, would they accept them for major hotels? You know, that's a great question. And it would seem to me now this isn't an answer. It's just me talking out loud. It would seem to me that it would make more sense if it were coming from an official thing. But I think that what you would have to do is you would have to somehow get the general manager of your hotel in touch with whoever the decision maker is down there. and let it be their call. Because I could very easily see them saying, thank you, but we can't do that. And I could also very easily see them saying, wow, what a wonderful thing for you to do. Thank you very much. So, you know, just get your GM at your hotel in touch with whoever's in charge over there. And, oh man, I wish I knew who it was. I don't. I don't know who's in charge. Jay, do you have any ideas? I was thinking they're asking all the volunteers to go through.
What is that? Gosh, I could go look it up. Okay. But there's a volunteer group that... Let us know. Yeah, I'll go check it out real quick. Go check it out. Let us know. Keep listening, Randia, and I'll get the information on the radio, okay? Wonderful. I appreciate it, guys. Thanks for all you're doing. You got it. Have a good day. Thanks. Let's see. P1 Adam is on the line. Adam, are you there? Oh, yeah. How you doing? Good, man. What's up? You know, I just wanted to say thanks to a few guys. Taylor and Jeff, they were volunteer firefighters. They just came out yesterday. They were hanging out in downtown. They decided, hey, we're going to jump in our car and put out spot fires. And these guys basically saved my father's house. And so I just really wanted to thank them. My heart and my prayers go out to these guys. They're really the unsung heroes of this whole tragedy. They stopped the fire from burning at least three houses right on the backside of that major fire in Poway. And I just, I really couldn't thank them enough. Yeah, dude, that's awesome.
Uh, that's really cool that they did that. Yeah, they're great. All right, man. I appreciate it. Thank you for calling in. Thank you, guys. All right, we'll see ya. Uh, P1 Felon, what do you know? Hey, Mikey, how's it going? Good. Uh, I'm trying to get back into Fallbrook, and I'm letting you know now they're closing up the 76 again, um, just after North 10th. They're going towards the 15th. Okay, you're breaking up a little bit, but I think we got the gist of it. Thank you, man. It's P1 Felon. Yeah, there's... A couple of new ones. One started yesterday, the Palomar Mountain Fire. And that one is affecting people that are out by Rincon. In fact, they've evacuated some...
Folks from the Indian Reservation out there, right, Skye? Well, yeah, because when this fire started going on out there in the Valley Center, Palomar Airport, Rincon area, they were actually, at first, having people go to Harrah's Rincon as an evacuation center. But since the fire has grown and started to move in that direction, that's no longer, and they're sending them other places, you know. Tanya Tucker has a daughter, I guess. I don't know if she's here, if she's in Malibu or whatever. Cut 26. On my way to L.A., I just had to make a stop here in Las Vegas and I woke up and saw the news and right away was worried about my 18-year-old daughter, Presley, who was there already in Malibu with our four dogs and all of our animals. That was my first concern was to get her out. That was Tanya Tucker? That was a woman? My goodness. Come on, play it again. On my way to L.A., I just had to make a stop here in Las Vegas, and I woke up and saw the news, and right away was worried about my 18-year-old daughter, Presley, who was there already in Malibu with our four dogs and all of our... Thank you, Tanya. I wonder if that may be a cigarette deal. So I believe what we're about to hear is Larry Himmel. I believe.
Cut 24. What was that like to cover your own peril? Well, you know, it's almost better to know than not to know. And I know there are a lot of people that are stuck away from their homes, unaware of whether they're burned or not. I had the credentials and obviously was in a news van, so I could get to access places that other people couldn't. So I used my press credential and the fireman. I saw a fire truck coming down my hill as I was coming up, and he said, do you really want to go up there? And they were turning away because it was impossible to get near it. And I said, I do. I do want to get up there. I do want to see it. So I watched it burn, and at least I know my faith. Larry Himmel lost his home yesterday, and you actually see him reporting in front of his house, which is just, you know, destroyed. It's just brutal.
And I was saying it earlier. When I saw that, I thought, wow, man, this is so... It's affecting anybody and everybody. Did they say what area his home was in? No. I don't think so. Maybe they did. Maybe... Because I know I saw some houses that were burned to the ground that were real nice in 4S Ranch. And for some reason, that's what came to my mind when you asked that. Huh. Interesting. So that may be it. Some eyewitnesses. Cut 21. in the back. I can just see it sitting inside the restaurant. You can see the fire just right there. Yesterday we watched the fires come over the hill back here. Come back this way. They're doing a food and clothing drive today and this could be pretty good. Here's some of the things that they're looking for. This is, Eddie, you just printed this for me, right? This is going to be in PB and it is a food and clothing drive.
And what they're looking for is things like the face masks for breathing. I wonder where you can get those, by the way. Probably like Home Depot and stuff like that. Yeah, I've seen them there. Yeah, and if you're a local company who, say, makes cabinets or does something with wood, you know, that would be a great thing that you could donate. If you have them, yeah. I'm sure you've got tons of those in your shop. For sure. Flashlights, batteries, cots, airbeds, blankets, pillows, medical gloves, sleeping bags, tents. sunscreen, diapers, contact lenses, toothpaste, toothbrush, sanitary wipes, baby wipes, deodorant, baby formula, food, bed, vitamins, canned goods, commercial goods, vegetables, paper, ice, milk, baby food, pet food. No homemade products are accepted. Then as far as clothes, clean clothes, jackets, hats, blankets, sheets, pillows, no junk, sleeping bags. Reading and sunglasses and miscellaneous camping gear. Eddie, the only thing I'm having a hard time with is where exactly it's going to be. Off of the Mission Bay Drive and the directions. Is there a website? Are you looking on a website or are you reading that same email? Yeah, I'm reading the same email. Okay. Eddie, when you got it. Right off Mission Bay Drive.
Hey, Ashley, the guy's got a phone number. Call him real quick. Yeah, let's put him on the air. Oh, that's a great idea. Let's put him on the air. That's a really cool idea, though. Some really good-hearted people here in San Diego. Oh, yeah. People give a lot, too. There's a new Bin Laden tape out. Is it a remix, or is it... It's a mashup. Some of his classic work with some of his newer stuff. What's this one? So it's an audio tape. It was received yesterday by Al Jazeera and they say in the tape Bin Laden calls on Iraqi insurgents to unite in their fight against Americans rather than turning against each other. Oh. So just in case, you know. So he doesn't like terrorist on terrorist crime. No, no, he's not into that. Gotcha. So yeah, so he's pumping them up, boosting morale there for the terrorists. So they say as of press time on this story, experts were still trying to verify that the voice on the tape was actually bin Laden. There you go. This guy's name, his name is Marshall? Yes. Okay. Marshall, are you there?
Yes, how are you doing? Good, man. Tell all the P1s listening what's going on and how they can help. Okay, we're set up today just on East Mission Drive right before you drive on to South 5, where you turn in if you're going to drive right along the bay, like if you're going to the Mission Bay golf course. We have a big red Stay Classy tent set up there today. We're just taking all the donations that I just heard you list off there. Any and all help is appreciated, and any publicity you could give us, it would be much appreciated. Appreciate it as well. Everything's going to be farmed out and distributed to the people at the Q and also up at Del Mar. That's a great way to help, man, because some people, maybe they live in PB. It's an easy place for them to donate those goods. Exactly. If you're going to work and, you know, you're getting onto the five, it's right there before you get onto the highway. So hopefully it's easy for everybody to get to, and hopefully we get a lot donated today. There you go. Thank you for the call. Thank you, you guys. Appreciate the publicity. You got it. Is that live, Sky? Flared up overnight, and I know that Chief Howell will talk about it. Do we know if this is live or if this is from earlier? I don't know if it's live. I mean, on the bottom, they're saying it's breaking news, but they don't. To give us a report on some of those things that are going on. The cooperation, too, between the county, the city, the state, feds. Everybody's done a tremendous job. Just some things that affect the city of San Diego and affect all of the cities around it right now.
The Harris fire flared up overnight, and I know that Chief Howell will talk about that. But in south San Diego, along the border, we have a voluntary evacuation right now for south of Main Street, west of Alta, east of 805, and north of the border. That's a voluntary evacuation at this time, and I know the... Firefighting crews are working extremely hard to keep it out of the South Bay heavily populated areas. As the supervisor said, 164,000 acres are burned in the Witch Fire. We still have mandatory evacuations in place for Rancho Bernardo, Scripps Ranch, areas in the north city north of 56, up into the county areas of Rancho Santa Fe, all the way to the ocean from Interstate 15. Today we'll reassess some of the areas in San Diego for letting people back in. I just need to tell people it's going to be a process where we have to make absolutely sure that there's safety there so we don't have to remove people once we put them back in. We'll be very deliberate about that, but we'll also communicate who can go back to those homes. Please stay at home today if you can. Stay off the freeways.
allow our emergency vehicles and people needing to evacuate to move around freely, and please stay off your cell phones. We need donations at Qualcomm. We have about 8,000 to 10,000 people who spent the night there, very orderly, about 5,000 cars in the parking lot. If you can take donations of food, water, cots, pillows, to A3, that's Alpha 3, We have set up kind of a store there for people to get whatever they need. When I say a store, it doesn't obviously cost anything, but it's just a more orderly way to allow people to fill their needs so that we just don't have things all over. I want to thank all San Diegans. They've done an absolutely tremendous job, city, county, everybody, in pitching in and helping those who've been affected. I think probably at Qualcomm Stadium, We had as many volunteers as we had as people affected, and I think that that was people working together, feeling good about helping each other, and feeling good about accepting that help. And finally, I'd like to thank the sheriff. We got some National Guard troops from the sheriff's office. They were able to be in Qualcomm last night, just provided a sense of stability, and people felt safe. They also felt cared for.
And we're working through the sheriff's office to use those National Guard troops throughout our community. So I want to thank all San Diegans. I also want to thank our police and firefighters for the tremendous job that they're doing. And any help we can get at Qualcomm Stadium, which will probably grow today in population because of some of the things going on in South County, then we can use that help. There you go. We mentioned the things that they would need out there. Car cell phone chargers, eating utensils, toys for the kids. Keep them entertained because they're going nuts out there. Diapers, pillows, sleeping bags, blankets, cots. If you have hot food, it can be brought to gate A. Just want to let people know where they can take that stuff. Gate A for the hot food, which I'm sure a lot of people, oh, that'd be great this morning. All right. To be able to let those people get some hot food.
Hey, listen, here's some information. Because we're just kind of sitting around like you are. You're in your car right now or you're at work or you're at home listening to us. And we've got a TV on in here. We're seeing live shots of some fires. We're wondering what's going on. I want to take a second of COGO and hear what COGO is reporting on right now. concern about the San Miguel Fire and, of course, the ones burning up north, the Valley Center area, not to mention, of course, the Rancho Bernardo Witch Fire. What's the latest you can give us? The Harris Fire is 70,000 acres, 5% contained. They are optimistically looking at controlling that one on November 4th, but that one is actively burning right now. It's putting up a lot of smoke. It's heading down towards Spring Valley and Bonita. and still it's very active over in the Deerhorn Valley area near Honey Springs Road. And so we are working on getting our air tankers over there and trying to work on picking up the hot spots and taking the heat out of the fire and hopefully being able to keep it from going into more homes. Roxanne, there was a report that a fire station out there in the Honey Wells, what is it called, Honey Springs area, yeah, that was an evacuation center, and actually they were overcome by flames. Are they all right there?
I heard reports earlier that they had to shelter some people in place, and I believe everyone was okay after that. Okay, now what about the Witch Fire? The Witch Fire is 164,000 acres and 1% contained. That one is still actively burning. They're working on getting that one to suppress as quickly as they can. They've had 500 residents destroyed, 100 commercial properties, 50 outbuildings. Over 200 homes have been damaged. 75 commercial properties damaged and 50 outbuildings damaged. So there's quite a bit of destruction on that incident. There have been seven firefighters and two civilians that have been injured on that fire. What can you tell us about that new Camacho fire? The Camacho fire is 1,000. We're trying to divert resources from the other fires to that. It's up near Highway 76 in Palma Valley. There have been eight firefighters injured on that fire. And they're trying to get resources to it so they can get that one contained before we have a fourth large fire to contend with. Is it Pumacha or Comacha? I've got Pumacha. Oh, Pumacha. Pumacha. We had it as a C. Do we have any idea how that started? It started in a structure fire and then spread to the vegetation.
Well, now, there was a fire up in the La Jolla Indian Reservation. Are we talking about the same one? That is the one on the La Jolla Indian Reservation. There's also the rice fire that is 6,100 acres that's in the same general vicinity, but that was the one that crossed 15 and went into Fallbrook. Okay, and how's that? That one is 6,100 acres, no percent contained, and they have lost quite a few homes on that one as well. Yeah, I saw those homes myself driving up the 15 freeway. Custom homes on the side of the hills there in Fallbrook. I saw at least three with my own eyes. Yeah, I've got 500 homes were destroyed on that incident. All right, Roxanne, thank you very much for that. We appreciate it very much. We'll get back with you on another update as soon as we can. Have some time for it. Boy, Cal Walker is flying down to the Mountain San Miguel fire. Hopefully we'll get something from him on that. I heard that 1% contained. That's an interesting number. It is. It's nice to have any part of containment, which means, no, you know, I don't mean that in jest. I mean that 1% means that, again, you can grow this exponentially once you figure a way, once we get retardants in. And, you know, again, once these winds get down to a level, we're close. We're five miles an hour away at the last time Cal checked in that area. And hopefully as the afternoon goes on, we'll be able to get in maybe early evening around dusk when we still have that last couple hours of light.
That's what I understood earlier is the easiest time to get planes up to get that stuff down. And the weather, of course, is so important when it comes to being able to fight the fire from the air and the ground. Stan Wasowski with the National Weather Service is on the line with us right now. Stan, there seemed to be a little bit of diminishing winds overnight. Today they kicked back up again, but are you noticing less Santa Ana winds? Oh, absolutely, yeah. We're down yesterday, for example, here at the office, Rancho Bernardo, we were gusting. into the 40-mile-per-hour range at this time, but now we're just barely hitting 10, 15 miles per hour. So, yeah, there's been a definite diminishing of the winds. Seemed a lot cooler overnight, too. In some locations, here in Rancho Brown, for example, we never got below 79 degrees due to the gentle east wind that's been blowing through here all night long. Yeah, and the fires, too, probably, I'm sure. Yeah, the fires are very warm because, like I said, they draft themselves, and there's a lot of heat there. What can we expect for the next, say, 24 to 48 hours? Right, okay, for the next 24 hours, unfortunately, we're expecting the winds to continue, and we're going to keep our wind advisory in place for the mountains and the valleys right on through probably 6 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. So, unfortunately, we'll still keep the east winds in the low humidities. I wanted to check in with Kogo. That's our sister station, News Talk Station Kogo.
which we'll be going to after 10 a.m. this morning. But I just wanted to check in, see if there's anything that we're missing. As I told you, I want to give you the entertainment side, too, because it can get monotonous. And we do not have, it's not even capable for us to go into commercial breaks or whatever. So it's kind of a mini version of the 28-hour show. Mini marathon. That's right. That's right. P1 Lola, are you there? I'm there. How are you? What's going on, Lola? I've been checking out since about 6 a.m. this morning, all the Home Depots, trying to find air filters and masks. And between calling them and driving by, everybody's out of them. And the other thing I want to say to you is if you guys don't just forget about the police officers and the firefighters. We've been dropping food off also at the firehouses. A lot of the guys haven't been able to eat more than once in a 24-hour period. And if you drop stuff off at the local firehouses, they're able to get them to.
the lines that we can't get to. Really? So, wait a minute. I'm a little bit confused. You're saying if we drop off food at the firehouse, they're going to take it to firemen? Firefighters can take it to other firefighters that we can't take them to. Okay. Yeah, they have the ability to get them to the fire lines. Okay, now, in all honesty, I did not know that they were not set up to do that. We don't know. We don't know if that's what they want us to do or not. So I don't know that that's... Yeah, yeah. Now, Lola, where... Sounds cool. Lola, now, do you know that they want us to do that? Because what I don't want to do is get in the way. Yeah. I went there yesterday. I asked if it was cool, and they said absolutely, and they said bring everything by. That's cool. So they didn't say... No, they didn't. They weren't soliciting me for it, but they didn't turn me back for it. And so I've been telling all the neighbors and everybody to do it as well. So... As far as I know, I'm not a spokesperson for the fire department. Right, right, right. It was cool. Okay. I mean, hey, it sounds like a great idea. I just don't want, I hope we don't get in the way. You know what I mean? No, well, what I did is I went and bought a bunch of those pre-cooked chickens from Vons, you know, so they don't have to do any of the cooking themselves. And just, we got a bunch of bread and everything and cookies. Murray Callender said sales on pies. That's awesome. That is awesome. Hey, thank you.
Lola, that's really cool. You know, God repays that kind of stuff, Lola. That is really an awesome thing for you to do. Well, thanks so much to you guys, too, for giving us all the information. Appreciate it. Thank you, Lola. Thanks. Hey, if anybody knows where you can get those masks, because Lola's saying she's been calling Home Depot and everything. She can't find them. If anybody knows, hey, they have them here. They have them here. Let us know. It would be a good idea. I wish I had one yesterday. Right. I was running around outside doing stuff, and, you know, your lungs get all... filled up with that stuff really quickly. So we've been talking a lot about donating things. If, you know, say you don't have anything to donate, you can always give blood. It's always important in time like this to give blood. You never know when people are going to need it. So the San Diego Blood Bank is doing blood drives today starting at 10 a.m., one at Qualcomm, and one at the Del Mar Fairgrounds starting at 10 a.m. Okay. Oh, this is good. P1 Mike, are you there? Hi, indeed. How are you doing, Mikey? What's going on, dude? I just wanted to pass on a little info. I picked it up on the news. I've been listening to you guys this morning, and the deal with taking food down to places like Qualcomm Stadium and up to Del Mar, it's purely a health department issue. They won't have to come from a commercial kitchen that's been made by the health department. Okay. And they're just figuring that you cooking at home, you probably don't have that certification or that level of cleanliness at a commercial. So, you know, a grocery store that has a deli department, a hotel like the gal that called in earlier, any restaurant, any commercially...
run kitchen that has the ability to transport, keep cold food cold, warm food warm, you're good to go. Oh, that's awesome, man. That's great to know. Thank you for that information, Mike. Hey, thanks for all you're doing, Mikey. We appreciate that. Man, that's good stuff to know. Yeah. Sky, can you tell me about new video games, music, And DVDs that are being released today. And be cool today. Of all days. We're all in a tough position. It's information. Obviously, we got a lot of stuff to worry about here in San Diego County. We're just trying to give you a little distraction, if anything else. Just kind of take your mind off it a little bit. It's not that I think you're going to be rushing out today to get the new Beyonce CD or whatever. It's just, hey, listen. It's kind of fun. But we really today don't need Sky to be jerking us around with those goofy releases. I never do. You know, goofy releases. I never do. It's going to be all legit today. What do you got? Okay, let's see. Conan out today. Conan O'Brien. I love the first season the most. He was nervous, but he was still good. Great interview. No, Conan like the barbarian. Conan. Oh, you mean like our governor.
Conan. Well, it's weird because it says it's from the Robert E. Howard fantasy stories, not the Arnold Schwarzenegger films. Huh? So I guess there's a group of stories, but not the films. It's like Lord of the Rings. It's about the books, not about the movie. You get it? Does that make sense? Yeah. And it's a video game? Yeah, it's a video game. But it's based on the stories, not on the movie. Here's Conan himself to speak about it. It was very important for me to come down. Thank you very much, Arnold. Arnold just wanted to say it was important for the release. So that's out for Xbox 360 and the PS3. I think it's very important for people to understand that this is not the movie. It's the video game. Right. Thank you. Also out today, Clive Barker's Jericho for the Xbox 360, the PS3. We have Neratu, Clash of the Ninja Revolution for the Wii today.
Dancing with the Stars for the Wii and the PS2. What the hell was that? I want to know how that works. How do you dance with the stars with the Wii? The Eye of Judgment for PS3, Ace Combat 6, Fires of Liberation for the Xbox 360. So those are your video games out today. Real quick. Ashley, we'll get back to the new releases in just a second. But you have the information on if people want to volunteer. Yes. If you want to support the local American Cross, they need volunteers to assist them. American Red Cross. What did I say? American Cross. American Red Cross. Sorry. Which needs volunteers to assist evacuees, food distribution, emotional support, first aid, etc. So if you want to volunteer, you can go to the Red Cross Spontaneous Volunteer Center at Horizon Christian Fellowship, 5331 Mount Alifan Drive. I'm going to assume A-L-I-F-A-N. I think that's right. It's one block south of Balboa and Genesee in the Claremont area. Between 9 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. to register. Registration includes a one and a half hour Red Cross inter...

Just bring your proper ID and be sure, you know, you can call the center at 858-309-1261 before you head over. You know, the aliphans were my favorite part of Return of the King. You can also go to volunteersandiego.org to find out where you can volunteer as well. Oh, awesome. Nice, guys. So that was the video game. Those were our video games out today. You got another one? And we have a new report. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. We'll do more of the releases after this. Which one is it? It is FM News Primary. Good morning. I'm Delana Bennett with AM600 COGO. I'm Delaina Bennett with continuing coverage from AM600 COGO. There you go. There's your latest. We're going to get back to the new releases here in just a second, but a lot of people are calling in telling us where you can get those masks that help you to breathe better. P1 Ray? Ray, are you there? Yes. Go ahead. Where can you find him? You can find him at the Harbor Freight in Oklahoma, Miramar, Harbor Freight Supply Stores. Thank you. P1 Soldier, where can you find him? G.I. Joe Surplus Stores. Anywhere in San Diego, they have G.I. Joe Surplus Stores. Okay, cool. Thank you. P1 Rodney? Yes, Marshall's Industrial Hardware. It's on 8423 Production Avenue off of Miramar Road. Very good. And finally, P1 Chris, where can you get them? You can get them at any of your paint stores. Crazy, Dunn Edwards, Sherman Williams, and they always carry a lot of them. Very good. I'm actually at Smart and Final right now picking up stuff to take down to Qualcomm right now. Okay, cool. That's cool. Appreciate it, man. Very good stuff. All right, Sky, what else?
Okay, so let's talk about new CDs out today. We have the new solo album by Serge Tankian of System of a Down. That's how we know him. He is the lead singer. So his solo album that's out today is called Elect the Dead. Do we have any stuff? Yeah, we have been playing the latest single from him. I don't know. How do you spell it? Serge. S-E-R-J. And it's called what? I don't know what the... We have two here. Empty Walls and The Unthinking Majority. Those are both off of the solo album. His creative inspirations were not being... Reminds me a lot of Phil Collins' work when he left Genesis. In fact, I think this is a cover of Susudio. That's very soothing. Is that singing? What is that? Well, and it sounds exactly like System of a Down. I mean, it's not even different a tiny bit. Well, yeah, why didn't he just keep, why didn't he do that for System of a Down? Like if you're going to do a solo album or a side project, make it a tiny bit different. Maybe he just wants everyone to know that he is System of a Down. And this is a real, listen. Oh, okay. Our bad. It's me, okay? Yeah. Wow, that was really a cascade of noise.
Good job, Serge. Also out today, we have the new Seether album. Seether. It's called Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces. Let's see if we have any of that. I like Seether. Yeah, I do too. I go to the theater. No, no. Seether. Oh. Like the Seether fires of yesteryear. No. No, not like that? I go to the theater. What's it called, Sky? Well, the album's called Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces. The track listing, Like Suicide, Fake It, Breakdown, F-M-L-Y-H-M. Got Fake It. Okay. You know what I really appreciate about that music? It's very specifically our format. It's not one of these bands and these songs that you're going to hear it on. My 94.1 and Rock 105.3 and 91X. And, you know, it's like very specifically rock music. And it's cool. Yeah. I like that. Yeah, I did too. Carrie Underwood's album out today, Carnival Ride. You know, big fan of that song of hers where she talks about key in the car.
popping the tires. I always remember Sean saying, yeah, it's not a good idea if you're going to vandalize someone's car to sign your name on it. Carrie didn't think of that. You got a track listing of that one? No. Wasn't that on her old album? I didn't think so. Let me look-sees. Oh, the one about Until He Cheats? Absolutely. That was on her old album? Yeah. I thought that was on the new one. Well, no, we were talking about that last year. Last year? Yeah, at least. No. Oh, you guys. Sky. Well, because her last album came out in 05, so let me see. On the new album, Jesus Take the Wheel. I guess you're right. It's not on this album. On this album, we have Flat on the Floor, All-American Girls, So Small, Just a Dream, Get Out of This Town, Crazy Dreams, I Know You Won't, Last Name, You Won't Find This, I Told You So, More Boys I Meet, Twisted, Wheel of the World. So Mike was right? Yeah, that's what I just said. What was that? I said that's what I just said. I don't like to admit it. I won't say it again. I will not say it ever again.
Ever. Well, what's the name of that song? Before He Cheats. Before He Cheats. But you know that's an oldie. They release music. They don't just release it the day the album comes out. But sometimes they do the opposite where they release the single early. I hear what you're saying, but I'm going to fight you. Thank you. Let me read these two, Sky. Tell me which one of them is on the new one. Because I want to hear what her new stuff sounds like. Wasted, so small. Some hearts. So small. So small's new? Yep. Let me hear it in the new Carrie Underwood. Love it already. Sounds like the old. Oh, it's like taking a warm bath. What you got if you ain't got love? That you just want to give away. It's okay. Go ahead and let the light shine through. I love the way this sounds. I do. I love it.
Hey, it's the latest from Carrie Underwood on your 12-in-a-row country music station. I'm Jack Timmons. Hey, it's Jack Timmons here on your all-the-class afternoon here with our best country music in San Diego. That's the latest here from Carrie Underwood. It's called So Small. I'll tell you what, she's doing anything but getting smaller. She's only getting bigger and bigger, and I'll tell you what. Good one. Good one. Good one, Jack. Hey, it's Jack Timmons here with your 12 in a row. Hit the post! The latest from Carrie Underwood. This one's called So Small, and I hope you enjoy this one. It's US 95.7. So close. You're so close. Very close. Try again. Well, you hit the musical post. I hit the musical post, but I didn't hit the... Musical post is like second best, you know, but go for the gold, Jack. You hit that first one. Hey, it's Jack Timmons hitting your brown luncher here today. Hit the post!
What? She's screaming at him. Come on, hit the pole. He's trying to work. I want to hear you hit the pole. Jack Timmons is trying to work. Give him a break. It's a brown bagger lunch. That's what it'd be called. It's real cute. Oh, so you're the midday DJ? Yeah, I'm the midday DJ. That's what I was when I was at KWDB. I was the midday jock. If you're the midday jock, then your primary purpose is to try to hit that post. I'm going to hit that post. She is on your... Your PD is on your ass. Call me on the hotline. Call me on the hotline. Call me on the hotline. Wow, you got a real strict PD. Oh, please. What's with your PD, dude? Yeah. Well, she's a woman, so she's got a chip on her shoulder. I think you have some free Rubio's gift certificates for the brown bag lunch. Is that right? Is that right? Wow. Hang on, I'm getting hotline. Hello? Mikey? No, it's Jack Timmons. I mean, Jack? Yes? Yes? I just heard your last break, and for the last time, I mean, could you hit the post? I asked one thing of you, one thing only. Can you hit the post? Yeah, I'm going to play the new Carrie Underwood here, so you want me to try it again?
I'd like you to try again until you get it perfect, and then I'd like you to never mess up again. How about that? How about that? I'm sorry about that, Miss Ashley. You're a midday jock. Your primary purpose is to hit the post. Make it clean, make it tight. Thank you. I'm sorry about that, and I'm going to play the same record again here, and I promise this time I'm not going to mess it up. I've got one shot. Don't let me down. Thank you, Miss Ashley. I'm sorry. Thank you. Oh, wow. Damn. She is a ball buster. What? Give me one last chance, Fancy. Don't let me down. Good luck, man. No pressure. How you doing? It's your brown bag lunch, and Jack Timmons hitting your 12-in-a-row country music station here today. We got a brand new one from Carrie Underwood from her new album called So Small. I hope that was close enough. You didn't lock out. I didn't nail it. I didn't lock out either. Well, we'll see if that hotline rings. Hopefully it won't. I think I probably did fine that time. Lock it out, by the way, is a radio industry term that means that you got... Oh, no. You should have locked out, dude. Oh, no. Hello? Yeah. Oh, no. Yes, Ms. Ashley? I mean, are you kidding me? I forgot to lock out. I'm sorry.
You didn't lock out. You didn't hit the post. I need a little more twang and a little less bang. I need you to nail this. You're the missing shock. The purpose is to hit the damn post. You told me a million times you want a little bit more twang and a little less bang, and I screwed it up again, and I'm sorry, and I promise this next time I'm going to get it. You don't get it right. You're air checking with me after you get off the air, and if you need me to, I'll come down there because, you know, I used to be the midday shock back before I was a PD, and I'll hit the damn post. I'm sorry, Miss Ashley. It won't happen again. And I apologize. Showing up on me. Ball buster. Wow. Hey, it's Jack Timmons here, your 12 in a row country music station. And we're all brown bagging it together today. Helping to get through this vicious, vicious lunch hour. Brand new one here from Carrie Underwood on 95.7. What you got? Oh, no. Oh, no.
I didn't really mess up that bad. You didn't really say the calls. You didn't give the calls. You didn't give the calls. You got to lock out with the calls, bro. What are the calls? U.S. 95. You got to write that down. Hotline's ringing. Yes, Miss Ashley. Listen, Jackie. I'm going to get real with you right now. I need a little more gristle and a little less whistle. I need you to lock out with the calls and I need you to hit the damn post. I'm not going to ask you again. The next time it won't be a call, it's going to be me coming down into your studio, pulling up to my office, and you're going to have to have a talk with me. Yes, yes, Miss Ashley. I'm sorry. You could drive a truck through that dead space before the post. You could drive a damn truck through it. Sorry about that, Miss Ashley. Pick the post. Lock out with the call. Sorry. Miss Ashley. Oh, God. Get it that time, Jack Timmons. Hey folks, we're trying to lead you in this recovery effort that we're going through here in San Diego today. And we're brown bagging it here in your 12 in a row country music station. It's a brand new one from Carrie Underwood called So Small on US 95. Hey, hey. She can't hotline you now. No way. He talked over that middle. Shut up. Let me tell you something. That is not a primary post. That's not a primary post. It's not a primary post.
Yes, Miss Ashley? Jackson, I don't know how many times to tell you to get it right. I got it right, Miss Ashley. You walked on the musical post, Jack. You walked on the musical post. It's not the primary post. I need a little less punch and a little more crunch. I need you to not walk on the musical post. What does that mean? I need you to kick it off. I need you to hit the post. What does that mean? You need a little bit more what and a little less what? I need a little less punch and a little more crunch. You know what I'm saying. Yes, Ms. Ashley, I'll try it one more time. I mean, how many times? This is the last time. This is the last time. I promise. Hit. Damn. Oh. So I guess she wants me to hit both posts. This is getting confusing. Hey, it's Jack Timmons here. Trying to help you get through your afternoon. And we got a brand new one from Carrie Underwood here. Yeah. I think you're really going to enjoy it. It's brand new. It's called So Small from a New Album and your 12-in-a-row country music station on 95.7. What you got if you ain't got it? What more do you want? I thought it was a brown bag lunch. Like, how do I know when to win? Please don't say that, Miss Sky. But are we not doing that feature today? Because I tune in at noon every day to hear the brown bag lunch and to win myself some Rubios. And I didn't, I don't, I don't, maybe they changed the format. I don't know. I'm not getting hotlines, so I think I did fine that time. All right.
That's all it takes sometimes just to hit both them posts. It's not the information, really, that's important, to be honest with you. In radio, it's not the information. Oh, no. Oh, now you did it. Now you did it. It's probably not even her. I'm sure it's somebody else. I can't imagine. Hello? Hey, Jack, it's Miss Ashley. She's calling herself Miss Ashley now. Yes, Miss Ashley. Hey, it's your boss, Miss Ashley. What's going on, Miss Ashley? Jack, you were so close. You look so close, but I need a little more tamale and a little less golly. Is that because he's Mexican? I think you could talk to HR about that. Jack Timmons. Hang on a second, Miss Ashley. A little more pop and a little less yak. I need you to hit the plugs. I need you to hit the brown bag lunch, and I need you to hit the post. Did you say... More tamale, less golly. Yes, Miss Ashley. Less pop and less yak. You better do it. I'm sorry about that. I'm going to get it right this time. What? I am, Miss Ashley, but I do take umbrage with you calling me a bean. I'm Hispanic. Thank you, Miss Ashley. I appreciate your constructive criticism. I really do now. I'm going to try it one more time. Here we go.
Hey, San Diego, it's your 12 in a row country music station with your boy, Jack Timmons, hanging out with you today. We're brown bag lunching it together with a brand new Carrie Underwood called So Small on 95.7. Did you walk on it a little bit? And it's US 95.7. How many times? It's 95.7. It's right there on the liner. U.S. 95.7. U.S. 95.7. You can't just say 105.3. You got to say Rock 105.3, you know? I mean, what is that? Why is that applying? The hotline's ringing. For other stations. Oh, other stations. Hello. Hey, Jack, it's Miss Ashley. Yes, Miss Ashley. I'm very slowly losing patience. You're getting it? I hit both the posts. I mentioned the brown back. I did it all. I still need a little less time. Saco's not even a word, though. Wait, that didn't work. That didn't even work. That didn't even work. Just trying to rhyme Mexican food. That one didn't work. I need a little bit more hotta and a little less enchilada.
Yes, Ms. Ashley, but I mean, if I'm being fair, I think you're just trying to use Mexican, you know, drug... That doesn't make sense. No, that makes sense. You need to spell it out and get a little more burrito and a little more for eco. Wait, that doesn't work either. You're just making words up. Don't let her do that to you. I know, yeah. Are we clear? We need to talk to HR about this. Thank you, Ms. Ashley. Ladies out of control. Are we clear? Yes, we are. Fantastic, thank you. Now, we're going to get back to Jack Timmons trying to hit the post. What else is going on? I've got a little something up on my screen right now that says that our boy Zeph got his car impounded. What? What are you talking about? Zeph? Yeah. Where are you? I'm walking on convoy. Oh, my God.
What? What happened? I mean, are you kidding me? I'm just driving along, going to get breakfast, minding my own business, and I got pulled over for expired registration. And they took your car? Yep, yep. My goodness. Zeth is walking on convoy right now. What the? Did this week get any weirder? Seriously. Should I go pick him up? First the fires, then Jack Timmons, now this. Hey, listen, first things first. Did you get the food? No. Yeah, Eddie, go get it. No, I can walk the other way. Oh, for goodness sake, what's the matter with you? I could walk the other way. All right, Eddie's going to go get you. All right, then. All right, late. Eddie's going. I'll be back. I mean, what the hell? What is that? What? He got his car impounded. Why? Oh, no. Why is his register? Thank you, guys. What are you going to do? Right.
kids. And I would say Rob could go pick them up, but Rob's car, like his tires are like barely alive. He's got bald tires. He can barely get to work. Hey, by the way, if you're listening, if anybody's donating diapers to Qualcomm, if you have a set of tires you can give to Rob, it'd be great. Or some valid registration for Zeth. Yeah, donate valid registration for Zeth. Go ahead, Ash. We've got a new Kogo report update on everything. FM News update number two. Good morning, I'm Delaina Bennett with AM600 COGO. Here's the latest on the evacuations and wildfires here in San Diego County. County officials are asking you to stay off the roads if at all possible today and not to use your cell phone. And also to cut down on your energy use as much as possible today. SDG&E says it will be a tight day on the power grid as officials continue to fight these fires. If you need emergency information, dial 211 for an update on emergency services. FEMA is in town today to give federal assistance and will also start reimbursements, ASAP. We're now up to a half million evacuations in San Diego County, and wildfires have now destroyed more than 1,000 homes and businesses in San Diego. If you need to evacuate, there are several locations throughout our county that are shelters. Qualcomm Stadium, Santana High School.
Poway Girls and Boys Club, Campo Community Center, Mission Hills High School, Mira Mesa High, Escondido High School, the Del Mar Fairgrounds, and Steel Canyon High School. Here's a list of current evacuations in the north part of the county because of the Witch Fire, Wildcat Canyon in Mouth Valley, Del Mar, west of the I-5, south of Del Dios, north of Sorrento Valley Road, and west of Black Mountain Road to the Ocean. Everything south of Scripps, Poway Parkway, north of Miramar, and east of Interstate 15, west of Highway 67. Scripps Ranch, Crest and Harbison Canyon, west of the 15 to the ocean. And all residents of these communities are asked to evacuate to Orange County State beaches through Camp Pendleton. In the South Bay today, the Harris Fire burning over 22,000 acres. The fire crested on Mount Miguel overnight, and it is heading towards Bonita. The fire is threatening Lyons Valley, Hamul, Spring Valley, the Skyline Truck Trail in Barona, Honey Springs, Deerhorn Valley, and Agua Tibia and is continuing to move west. There has been a call for voluntary evacuations east of 805, west of Alta Road, south of Main Street to the U.S. border.
That is south of Main Street Chula Vesta to the U.S.-Mexico border. And the evacuation point for this voluntary evacuation is Qualcomm Stadium. Also threatened in the South Bay, North Hamul and Indian Springs, Spring Valley and Mount Miguel, Bella Lago. Also in the Spring Valley area, Miller Ranch Road. If you can volunteer or donate, water is still needed at shelter areas. And that number, to find out anything, is 858-636-4131. 858-636-4131. I'm Delaina Bennett with continuing coverage on AM600 COGO. That's your latest update.
And I'll tell you what, man. You sign on to CNN.com. And it is every story. Yeah. It's taking over. Taking over national news, what's happening here in San Diego. Just taking over national news. I mean, when it's all said and done, there's going to be a lot of burned and affected areas. It's amazing to see those pictures from space. Yeah. I was just looking at some of those right now. You can see it from space. That's crazy. It is, man. Oh, my gosh. Wow. Yeah. P1 Professor. Yeah, Mike, you had a question for Jack Timmons. Yes. Let me get him for you. Yeah, go ahead. This is Jack Timmons. Oh. I was wondering, since you have such a problem hitting the post, maybe you could read news. Oh, that's jacked, bro. That's not jacked. That doesn't even apply. That's not cool, man. Actually, it's legitimate. It's a legitimate point. It is not. Actually, it is. Actually, it is not. Well, I'll have to work on that. Thank you. Okay, great. Jack Timmons. My favorite jock. I hate him. He's good at what he does. Not so much. No. So did you want to do the DVDs? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. All right. New DVDs out today. We have Meet the Robinsons, which is an animated deal, time traveling adventure. Wait, wait, wait, wait. Let's pause. We'll come back to it. This is P1 Ryan.
Ryan, are you there? Yeah, that's me. You work with an ambulance company? Yeah, I'm up here at the Del Mar Fairgrounds right now, and we're actually evacuating people from the fairgrounds. Oh, no. How come? Because the air quality is just too bad, and we're taking people out as we speak. You know, the fact that it's air quality is bad, but it's certainly better than it's being threatened by fire. Right. But the fact that it's poor air quality, I get it. Where are you going to take everybody? Right now, we're just taking them to other shelters and just pretty much anywhere out of here. It's mostly for serious medical. But at the moment, as long as it's nothing too serious, you can come down here. But if you have any breathing problems or anything, just... So to clarify, you're not evacuating everyone. You're just evacuating people with breathing problems. Yeah, that's correct. So people that need a place to go can still go to the Del Mar Fairgrounds, but not if they have breathing issues. Gotcha. Okay. Thank you, man. Appreciate it. Appreciate that. And that's probably witch fire stuff, right? Because isn't it through that?
Yeah, that it went through. Now, I know Rob knows people in the Del Mar area affected by this. Yeah, my girlfriend lives right across the street from the fairgrounds. And I was up there yesterday. The air quality is horrible. Any evacuations? They got the reverse 911 call, but it was the same thing that you had got early in the day, where it was just a warning. Get on alert, get ready. Yeah, get ready. So I guess they're still kind of just waiting on it, but they all did. I believe all of them got the reverse 911 to... prepare for this, get your stuff ready, put in your car. I just hope it can get over with soon. I just want it over with soon. I know. Burn out already. Yeah, and I don't, you know, I don't even know, like, on a personal level, I don't know what my plan of attack is going to be today, because looking at all the maps, you know, I didn't spend last night at home in Escondido, and looking at all the maps, we're still part of the mandatory evacuation area, so I... You're good with... staying at your parents yeah yeah i'm i'm very blessed to have family in the area and to you know have family that's in a safe area of the county as of now but it's like you know do i go back and drive by is that a see that's been my thing too that's been the most frustrating thing when they say go when can we go back yeah because you know obviously like were we looted last night do you know i want to go check me you know i
I don't know. I guess I'll just have to keep doing what everybody else is doing, going on the internet, watching the news. There should be a harsher punishment for looters. Seriously? Yeah, in an emergency situation, yeah. Talk about bad karma. It's pretty brutal. I mean... Bad karma. Looters. I mean, we've been hearing yourself because it will come back to haunt you. We've been hearing rumors of looting, but we have confirmed that two 18 year old men were arrested last night in Ramona on suspicion of burglary. But besides that, nothing's been confirmed that we know of. Hey, Rob, when's the World Series start? Wednesday night, 8 p.m. I was just talking to you about that. Five o'clock out here. It's in Boston. Beckett's on the mound. Look at the big giant smile. Wow. Wicked excited. I honestly, I didn't think we were going to do it. I had some serious doubts and they were mostly because someone said we were going to go all the way. And win it. Yeah. And that really shook me. So what happens if they go to the World Series and win it? Are you going to have me say that every year? Probably. Then it'll be important for me to say that every year. No, but I mean...
Because then I obviously would have put some sort of good stuff on them. Yeah, it's like some kind of reverse jinx, now superstitious golden ticket. I had to let a lot of superstitions go this weekend. I had to consciously work through my OCD. Because when I watch baseball, it gets bad. So what did you have to give up? It's going to sound weird. I couldn't get naked and dress like a chicken afterwards. Well, I haven't shaved in over a week and a half. I'm growing a Red Sox beard, and I'm not going to shave it. Have you noticed this thing on his face? Yeah. It's like the most uneven beard I've ever seen in my life. During game days, I won't step... I don't get it. He looks like a hoodlum George Michael. I don't get it. Awkward. Not one even hair on the whole face. It's all... Uneven. On game days, I don't step on lines or cracks anywhere in pavement or sidewalks or anything like that. You're the best.
I'll have to sit in the same exact spot and have people sit exactly where they... Like, I tell other people where they can sit in my house. So these are things that I've been working through. He doesn't even enjoy watching the games. No. It's very tough for me to watch. Tomorrow night, 5 o'clock, the World Series starts. Boston against Colorado. Yeah, Wednesday. Yeah, today is Tuesday. It's been a whirlwind the past couple days. I haven't been able to crack a smile, really. You know, Sky was able to... Well, just this morning. She announced it earlier on the show. She announced it that she was able to finally laugh. It was a nice feeling. To finally be able to. Sounds nice. Sean, do you have that? Felt nice. What's that? Uh-oh. Uh-oh. What you talking about, Mike? What? What's even going on? Yeah, this is actually the first time I've laughed, like, I don't know, in the past couple days. There it is. From earlier in the show, that was Skye. Boom. I think people can relate. It's been crazy the past couple days. Can we please finish the DVD? Yeah, this is actually the first time I've laughed. I don't know, in the past couple days. Let's finish the DVD. It's good to heal through laughter, as they say. What do you have, Sky? The DVD? No. Is that what that is? Can I finish them? Sure.
Okay, so new DVDs out today. Meet the Robinsons, like we said, animated, time traveling, great. Mr. Brooks out today. Kevin Costner stars as a serial killer. Okay. Hostel Part 2 out today, Shawnee, oh boy. Big fan. Okay. And then today we have a little Stanley Kubrick collector's deal. Yeah, is that the high-definition stuff? Let's see. Blu-ray and HD, yeah. So it's a DVD box set. It's 10 DVDs. 10 DVDs in high definition? Yeah, 10 DVDs. What is it? What do we got? Well, it's weird because it says the DVD box set is like 80 bucks, but then it goes on to list the HD DVD as $29. So I think that that's not part of the box set. That's like a separate. An individual movie. They describe it as a 10-DVD set, remastered two-disc versions of 2001 A Space Odyssey, Clockwork Orange, The Shining, and Eyes Wide Shut, plus a single-disc release of Full Metal Jacket and a disc with the documentary Stanley Kubrick, A Life in Pictures. So it's probably the Full Metal Jacket that has that HD, you know what I'm talking about?
Because this is the description. It says a 10-disc set, and then it goes to talk about Clockwork Orange, The Shining, and then it says plus a single-disc release of Full Metal Jacket. So the full male jacket's not part of the set is what it sounds like. That's also in a separate single release. So that's the one that I believe is available on the Blu-ray and the HD. And that $80 one of all those movies is just standard definition? That's what it says here. I mean, maybe I don't have information, but here it only lists one price. It feels like they're ripping us off. I had a Stanley Kubrick deal that came with Lolita, The Shining, Clockwork Orange, and I think Dr. Strangelove. And then it had a Life in Pictures. Stanley Kubrick. Now they're just repackaging it with a couple other movies. It's the same thing. It's kind of what it sounds like. Because I do believe that very soon they're going to be releasing The Shining in Blu-ray and 2001 in Blu-ray. And all these movies are coming out in Blu-ray by Kubrick. But today, maybe it's just Full Metal Jacket, which blows. Yeah, it sucks that they don't do it in a set.
You know, because obviously if you're a fan of his work and if you have an HD, you know, DVD player, well, duh, you're going to want the set. TV shows to DVD today. We have The Sopranos Season 6 Part 2, The L Word, The Complete Fourth Season, Veronica Mars, Complete Third Season, and NCIS, The Fourth Season. Let's see. P1 John, you there? Hey, Mikey. How's it going? Good, man. What can you tell me? Well, I drive for a tow company in Del Mar. I just talked to one of the National Guardsmen. They're all filling up their Humvees and they're staging up at the Delmar Fair saying that it's imminent. They're going to push people out of the Delmar Fair. Really? So it's eventually not just going to be people with breathing problems? That's what they started with because their first priority, but he said they have filled up all their trucks and they're ready to roll somewhere else. And is it because of air quality or is it because of threat of fire?
You know, he didn't tell me. I know the air quality out here is horrible right now. Actually, they're about to stop running our tow company because it's so hard for us to breathe. Okay. Are you guys all wearing the masks? We are, actually. We only have three drivers working right now. All of our other drivers got evacuated, so we're running short-handed, but our boss said we can't do this for much longer. And it's still tough for you to breathe even with those masks on, huh? That's correct. I mean, it's long. You know, your eyes are watering. So it's been rough, but we're trying to stick it out as long as we can to help out the AAA members, you know? There you go. Hey, thank you very much for calling in, John. I appreciate it. No problem, Mikey. Have a good one. You too, man. All right. Get this P1 Sam. Are you there? Yeah, I'm here. Go ahead. I've got a report from El Cajon. Two helicopters have just lifted off with water buckets underneath, and they are heading north towards the RB area. Air crews are in the air. Good, man. I say soak those fires, man. That's it. Appreciate it. Yeah, I just read something interesting. They're reporting that since Sunday, about 50 suspected illegal immigrants have surrendered themselves to the Border Patrol because they're fearing for their safety. That they actually went to the Border Patrol and said, hey, take us back because this is too sketchy. We want out of this. Yeah. I think the mayor is speaking right now.
Staying off the freeways and cell phones, they've got to proactively do some stuff. Well, we need people not to do their laundry. We need people to cut back in air conditioning. We need people to cut back as many things as they can. But watching TV probably is kind of important if you live in one of the affected areas, so we don't want you turning your TVs off. Right. I guess everybody in San Diego County, one or two degrees at most separation from somebody who was impacted by this? Well, I think every one of us has got somebody living in our house right now because they live in one of the impacted areas. I got home last night, and my sister and brother-in-law were with us because they live up in Fallbrook, and it was nice to have them there. This is going to be a briefing that will tell you what, because just to pull something like this bootstrap together, it's marvelous, but you've got to keep the organization and the resources going. Well, we do, and the city doesn't normally do evacuation centers. That's American Red Cross and Salvation Army, and they've done incredible jobs. But they were stretched so tight, we threw this together yesterday. And I have to tell you, the city staff's done an incredible job. The volunteers have done an incredible job. But I wanted to call all my top staff together today to figure out...
Where we go from here, make sure our responsibilities are fixed, and we have points of contact to help new people get back in their homes. Thanks, Mayor Jerry Sanders, once again, for stopping by. Busy man, and your time is precious. We'll let you get back to the work of the city. Thanks again, sir. Take care. All right. So long. All right, Gene, thank you very much. Gene Coverson jumping in there and helping us out, getting an update with the mayor. We had mentioned it before. In fact, Marianne, I know you did, this transmission crisis that Gene had mentioned. It came out of that press conference earlier this morning, and they're absolutely right. Cut back on the essentials if you can. You know, obviously air conditioning, some of the things that burn the most power in your house because we're having trouble with so many downed power lines with the transmission lines themselves coming into San Diego County. But he says don't turn off the TV, don't turn off your radio, especially if you're in an affected area. Stay informed. And if you're away from... P1 Sarah. Hi. What's going on? I live off Gopher Canyon, and yesterday we sat and watched the Rice Canyon fire from our window, and all was well. And this morning we woke up, and it seemed that the Palomar Mountain Fire is taking over Valley Center. And we didn't get a reverse 911 call, but people around us did.
And I just got in my car and turned you guys on and saw that all the fire people are there. They're closing down the road. But I was watching the news since yesterday at 3 in the morning, and they haven't said one thing about it. So I just wanted to let you guys know. Okay, about the Palomar Fire. Yeah, we have mentioned the Palomar Fire this morning. But it's taking over Gopher Canyon, and it's not. Like, the nose I've been watching hasn't said anything about that. Okay. So I just wanted to let you guys know. Thank you. Thanks. Thank you. Scott, you got anything new or should I tell you about this? Yeah, I gave it to you. I'm having computer issues right now, but that's... You don't want to find it. Okay, thank you. Del Mar evacuations, mandatory evacuation, ordered for the following areas within the city of Del Mar. All areas east of Crest Road. All areas east of Crest Road. San Deguito Road. Oribia Road. Avenida Primavera along Crest Road. Serpentine Drive, Gatun Street, Balboa Avenue, Zappo Street. Other areas of the city have not been issued a mandatory evacuation order. However, it is strongly suggested that all residents pack necessary belongings and be prepared to evacuate if a mandatory order is issued.
Del Mar residents who are unable to self-evacuate should call. So if you're listening right now and you have any trouble at all getting yourself out of Del Mar, here's the number to call. 858-704-3694. 858-704-3694. That is for those of you that can't get yourselves out and you need help. Solana Beach evacuations. evacuation is strongly recommended for the following areas within the city of Solana Beach. All areas east of I-5. They're strongly recommending that you skedaddle. City of Solana Beach. Areas along the north border of the city between I-5 and 101. All areas
along the north border of the city between I-5 and 101. Solana Beach officials are strongly encouraging residents on the northern edge of the city between I-5 and 101 to evacuate due to increased winds in the area. The city is suggesting that residents go to the Carlsbad Westfield Mall on the southwest corner of I-5 and 78 or to Qualcomm Stadium. Any people that feel they cannot self-evacuate should call the City of Solana Beach Emergency Operations Center at 858-720-4403. It's 858-720-4403. Now again, the Solana Beach, these are voluntary evacuations. You're strongly encouraged. Del Mar, mandatory.
They're not asking. Mandatory evacuation is ordered for the city of Del Mar in areas east of Crest Road, San Deguito Road, Uribia Road, Avenida Primavera along Crest Road, Serpentine Drive, Gatoon Street, Balboa Avenue, and Zappo Street. That has just come down. That's fresh off the ticker. All of the COGO fire information is on the Mikey Show website at MikeyShow.com. M-I-K-E-Y-S-H-O-W dot com. People can see the info there as well. And it'll update as Kogo updates their website. Speaking of Kogo, let's join Kogo in progress and try to find some stuff out from Kogo because they got up-to-the-minute stuff. And Del Mar, and you can understand why they've made those evacuations. However, it seems to me that the wind now is blowing a little bit more south. In a south-westerly direction earlier.
I would have told you it was northeasterly. And as I say that, another fly-by by the helicopter. So these guys are all over right now. This is a staging area. There's probably, oh, 10 fire trucks and about as many San Diego Police Department, too. So they're all over right now. I mean, it's a cliche, but they're literally doing everything they can. Graham, thanks. We'll be back in touch with you. Appreciate it. That's a pretty dramatic sound. It's a nice sound. An encouraging sound, yeah, for those that live in that area. Up to 10,000 people, at least, stayed at Qualcomm Stadium overnight after being evacuated from their homes due to the fires. We did learn from Councilman Jim Modaffer a little while ago that Qualcomm has become a distribution center for all of the evacuation centers around the county. So what will happen is, if you need something... Simply contact them, and they'll be able to bring it up to you. He said it was being coordinated, I thought he said, by the EOC. Is that right? Right. Emergency Services.
Oh, yes. Yeah. I thought he said EOC earlier on. Yeah. Oh, yes. Makes more sense. Okay. The EOC, I can't... What was that? The Equal Opportunity Commission? That wouldn't be it. We're all... It's like a little punchy here after a few hours. Again, that's... So if you have an evacuation center that needs supplies, again, that would be the agency that you would contact. And it's good to know that you can bring supplies to one location. And I would imagine it all works together right now. And hopefully... Again, you know, if you have something that is prepackaged that you think could be useful, and we heard they were looking for games. The councilman mentioned cards, games, anything to help pass in the next couple days because it's the mental part that starts to drain on you. You'll get the food. You won't be getting a lot of sleep. And it's going to be difficult. If you have small children, it's going to be even more difficult. How about baseball gloves and footballs, stuff like that? Yeah, whatever. Good idea. All right, very good. We're going to check in with Phil Farrar, who is at Qualcomm Stadium, coming up in a little bit to see how people are dealing with all of this, leaving their neighborhoods, not knowing what's going on. We spoke with Lee Hacksaw Hamilton about his place. Luckily, his house withstood the flames, but his neighbors were not so lucky.
You know, it affects everybody. It affects everybody one way or the other, especially in a place like San Diego where everybody is really close-knit. It feels like a small town here, and just if it doesn't affect you directly in some way or form, it does. The schools closed today around the county. I imagine a lot of people missed work today just because it was hard to get there. 15 Freeway did open up. It was closed earlier, and I know me personally trying to get home last night It was kind of a mess because they closed the 15 freeway from the 78 north all the way up into Riverside County, so I wasn't able to get up there. Let's go back to the phones. We can't mark for a second here. We talked about the Pamacho fire. Let's go up to Krista, who says she sees a lot of smoke in Valley Center. Hi, Krista. Hi there. Welcome to Coco. You're seeing some of the smoke coming in. You have an evacuation order in place. Have you started to make efforts to move? We are packed and ready to go, but we are in a very barren vegetation area, and there's very little up here to burn. I have a 360-degree view and see no flames anywhere. Okay.
And you're looking south, right? That's where the fire would be coming from? I'm looking north, south, and east because there's a fire out over Rodriguez Mountain. And I'm seeing smoke from that, but no flames. And then the one down at Rincon, smoke, but no flames. And Rancho Bernardo, south of us, I see the smoke, but no flames. From what we understood, it was south of Valley Center. Is that what you understand, Mark, where the Pomacho fire was? Yeah, it's kind of north of Valley Center area there. It's hidden... North of the Valley Center? Yeah, it should be north, didn't it? Let me figure this out on the map. It's kind of hard. I'm looking at a map here, and I was... Okay. The Palma Valley fire was north to northeast. But early this morning, there was a fire that started out at Rodriguez Mountain, which is due east of Valley Center. Because we're showing the Pumacha fire they're calling. It was actually a house fire that then spread to the surrounding area. So you're saying there was a separate blaze that was out east of Valley Center? Yes, it was due east of the Valley View Casino, kind of, on Rodriguez Mountain. It's on the east side of the mountain.
I still see smoke coming up, but I haven't seen any fires coming over the hill. Well, we'll verify that with our fire people and see if we can get an update on that and see what's happening in your area. Of course, that... Go ahead, Krista. I'm sorry. I've heard that a safe route out of Valley Center High School could be Colgrade to Valley Center down Lilac, you know, Old Castle Road area to 15. We had heard... Yeah. One of my neighbors just went out that way and called and said it was clear. Are there limited numbers of way out the way we understand those? Is that accurate? Yes. Let's get Cal with us here, Cal Walker. Cal, you've heard this. The smoke that she's seeing, she says she doesn't see flames yet. I just wanted to mention that it's part of the fire that started early this morning with that house in La Jolla Indian Reservation. And like many of the fires around the county, it started with an ember that blew. And it looks like a different...
fire, but it is the same one. And the embers blew out to a point east of Valley Center, down in the Palma Valley there, near Rincon Casino, Rincon Valley, really. That's what's burning now, and the smoke is blanketing to the west. Like yesterday, you'd think you're in the middle of a fire zone, but you could stay miles away from it. Yeah, the Mount Miguel, when we saw it coming in this morning, it looked like it was right on top of you, yet it was 10 to 15 miles away, depending on where you were on the 15. Exactly. He said the last point I saw flames was around the Rincon Casino at the north end of Woods Valley by the east side of Valley Center, south of the 76, and it's blowing up. I also wanted to add, I've come up to try and raid airborne. I can't tell you that the fire that I saw yesterday, Apollo, south of Mission, that's still raining. Yeah, that's been jumping back and forth across the freeway several times. Yeah, Mark, you're familiar with this specular, which just passed the...
Yeah, the homeowners up there on the west side who live in the Deleuze area are quite familiar with this type of fire. They've gone through it in past years, and there's a Cross Creek golf course that's located up there, and so I'm sure that the fire's burning in that direction. All right, Cal Walker overhead with some great information for us. Here's our continuing fire coverage. On AM 600 Kogo, Mark Evans, Chip Franklin here. As we continue nonstop, we'll just stay here with you until we can go home. It is 13 minutes before 10. Let's get a couple phone calls in here. We're going to go back to Kogo here in a minute. Just wanted to give you a chance to see what the latest is.
Oh, and something I just read is if today is a trash pickup day for you in the city of San Diego, no trash pickup. They say if today, Tuesday is your regular trash day, they will pick up your trash on Saturday. Now that's for the affected areas, right? It says the city has suspended all trash collection. Because I think now because the air quality and they just want to keep people out of the way. So it says, yeah, the city has suspended all trash collection today due to the wildfires. Saturday will be your new pickup day this week. They're showing the helicopters picking up water. I wonder how many gallons they hold. I mean, yeah, dude. I mean, a lot. They're showing them picking them up out of the lake. Out of the reservoir. And it looks like a lot. Hey, here's good. Here's some good stuff. The church that I go to, the Rock Church, they're opening their doors as a shelter to those evacuated from their homes. They'll be providing water, food, shelter, and encouragement. Up-to-date information on our efforts will be provided on our website. www.therocksandiego.org or call 619-226-7625.
Or you can email firerelief at therocksandiego.org. They do need donations, sleeping equipment, water, and food, not homemade food. The Rock is located at 2277 Rosecrans right here in San Diego. And you can drop stuff off at the Rock Church lobby. Pretty cool. Starts today, and doors are going to open at 10, so in 11 minutes they're going to start doing that. And that's the deal. We're going to go back to Kogo and let people... hear what's going on with them. They do the up-to-the-minute stuff. What we do is we pass stuff along to you. I got this to pass along. If you're looking for places to find those masks to keep the small debris away, any paint store like Frisee or Sherman Williams, Marshall Industrial Supplies off Miramar Road, any G.I. Joe surplus store in San Diego, Corky's Pest Control, any Ferguson,
plumbing, supply places. They're all over San Diego. Yeah, like I said, we are giving you information, but we're also mixing in some of the entertainment stuff to try to keep it light. We're going to be back tomorrow. We're going to do the same thing. In fact, tomorrow will be more like a normal show than even today because tomorrow we're going to have... Is tomorrow the day that we have Ryan from The Office on? BJ Novak will be on. He's so hot. Do you think so? Hottest guy in the office. No, it's the sexiest guy in the office, they say. It's true. But he's so small. Yes, true. But look at Boston Rob. He gets by the same thing. Oh, yeah. Absolutely right. He's teeny. A mini-mini. Let's see. P1 John. Yes. What's up? Hey, I was just driving through San Marcos, and Edco's still running through San Marcos. They got a trash truck running in there. Yeah, I think the city refers to the city of San Diego.
So, yeah, so if you're in San Marcos, Escondido, I don't know what they got going on right now, but as far as I know, the city of San Diego is the only one. And then also just, I'm getting reports, too. I got a buddy that's up in Hidden Meadows. They're evacuating up there. And at the end of Twin Oaks in San Marcos, in the little rural area of Twin Oaks, right before it turns off to Deer Springs Road, they're reporting that they're evacuating out of that area because the fire's over in Hidden Meadows area. Oh, my gosh. All right, man. Thank you very much. Take care. P1AJ. Hi, how are you guys doing today? Good, man. Good. Hey, I got a couple of goats we pulled out of Rancho Santa Fe yesterday, and they were in the path of the fires, and today I'm trying to get a couple of bales of hay for them. Okay. These goats rescued up in here in Mara Mesa in my yard, and I need somebody out there who can... Get me a couple bales of hay. You got goats in your yard in Mira Mesa? I've got a 250-pound goat and a 60-pound goat in my backyard in Mira Mesa. Wow. That's what we had to do. Good person, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What do people do if they want to get you the hay? What's that? What do you want people to do if they want to get you the hay? You want them to meet you somewhere? I'm heading right up to the Mira Mesa evacuation center right now. Okay. Up here at Mira Mesa High School, if they want to stop by, I'm an army guy. You'll see me in a BDU top.
Cool, man. If somebody wants to give them some hay, stop by. Give a guy some hay. What the hay? Hey. Thank you. Thank you. Jason from National City, what do you know? I just want to notify you guys that Plans Bonita Mall in National City is open as an evacuation center. Okay. That way people from Spring Valley and Bonita and Chula Vista have a place to go to. I believe that they're going to be providing aid over there as well. All right, cool, man. Thank you. Appreciate it. All right, we're going to turn it over to Kogo. It's KIOZ San Diego. We will see you again tomorrow morning. I'm going to go donate some stuff to Qualcomm. I highly recommend anybody who's not in any affected areas do the same because they really need that stuff, man. A3. Yep, they're looking for blankets, stuff for kids, silverware, food that's, you know, pre-wrapped, pre-packaged food. They won't take homemade food. But Qualcomm A3 and then Blood Drive starts today at 10 a.m. at Qualcomm as well as Del Mar.
And also, if you're in my area, because I know I'm going to donate for sure today to the Food and Clothing Drive that is right off Mission Bay Drive. It's right by the freeway. Super convenient if you live in Pacific Beach. I know a lot of college kids don't have school today, so I'm going to definitely swing by there. They'll be there until 7.30 p.m. tonight and help out and donate. So get down there. That's a good one. Anything. They'll take, you know, food, blanket. Cool, man. All right. We'll turn it over to Kogo, and we'll see you tomorrow morning. Mikey shows out late.
