The Mikey Show aired 28 commercial-free hours covering the devastating Southern California wildfires that displaced over 500,000 people, burned 400,000 acres, and caused over $1 billion in property damage. The broadcast featured segments on evacuation updates, donation drives at Qualcomm Stadium and the Rock Church, Border Patrol citizen checks, and extensive traffic impacts from freeway closures. Memorable on-air bits included the Honky Kong 2 helicopter controversy, a heated comparison to Hurricane Katrina's racial dynamics, and a viral 'manliest men' list featuring George Takai's outrageous claims. The show also touched on sports topics like the World Series, Manny Ramirez's unconventional habits, and David Copperfield's FBI raid conspiracy theories, while arguments arose around media race-spinning, looting concerns, and the ethics of celebrity stunt work.
What happened, in order
Katrina Race Comparison
Caller irately defends San Diego's response against national media's attempt to spin the fires as a race issue similar to Katrina, arguing it affects everyone regardless of race.
Half Million Displaced
Mikey compares the over half a million displaced people to Qualcomm's 70k capacity, emphasizing the staggering scale of the evacuations.
Rock Church Shelter
The Rock Church opens its doors as a shelter providing water, food, and encouragement, with specific donation needs outlined for evacuees.
Honky Kong 2 Helicopter
Caller asks Sky about the Honky Kong 2 helicopter she uses for commuting and champagne dinners, revealing it's exclusively for her use and not for fire assistance.
Sean Stiles & Death Proof Stunt
Sean Stiles is caught on camera reporting while behind firefighters, and the show discusses Tarantino's extreme Death Proof stunt involving a car hood at high speeds.
Displacement Comparison & Crush It Story
Mikey compares displacement numbers to Katrina/Cedar Fires, and a friend shares how they evacuated Rancho Santa Fe, the emotional weight of leaving home, and the realization that memories and shelter matter most.
B-Dub's 950k Evacuees
B-Dub calls in shocked that 950,000 people have been evacuated, noting it's the biggest displacement since the Civil War, and reflects on family resilience.
Manliest Men List & George Takai
The show runs a hilarious 'manliest men' bit where George Takai's absurd claims (roller skates, tube tops, 'make out for food') provoke uproarious callers and a debate about wizard vs. magician unions.
Tom Cruise & David Beckham
Tom Cruise is discussed trying to cheer up David Beckham by taking him flying or racing cars, and the show debates Death Proof's extreme stunt involving a tire on the face.
David Copperfield FBI Raid
Callers discuss the FBI raid on David Copperfield's warehouse, the gay magician union angle, and the 'wizard vs magician' debate sparked by the conspiracy theories.

Welcome to the show. It is 6.02. The president will visit Southern California tomorrow to witness the wildfire devastation firsthand. The Chargers are still in limbo about their game on Sunday, but San Diego State has postponed their game that was scheduled for Saturday. Well, it's going to be another morning of a commercial-free Mikey show for you. And then at 10 o'clock this morning, we're going to return to regular Rock 105.3 programming. And you have Missy back on this afternoon starting about 10. And so we're starting to get back to a sense of normalcy. But there's still fires burning all over the place. And hopefully today we're going to get a little bit of break with some winds dying down a little bit. Plus those Santa Ana winds that are blowing east to west.
Should start to meet up with some of those winds that are blowing offshore and to the east, which should help. Hopefully. Yesterday was a tougher day for us because that Rancho Santa Fe witch fire was creeping west. And we're in San Marcos, Carlsbad area. And so yesterday was a creepier day for us than the day before. but it doesn't matter man smoke is everywhere just doesn't matter where you are and holy cow man you step outside i was talking to my brother in phoenix about it yesterday you step outside and it just it smells like a campfire and everything looks like an ashtray you know your everything outside of your house is just in a quarter inch of ash and
And it just stinks and it's hard to breathe. My mother-in-law had a couple of those masks. So she gave us those masks. Yesterday, Rebecca and I had a hard time breathing. Wow. Yeah, yeah. But how about you guys? How did your day and night go? It's so different for people who are in the unaffected areas. Because I'm in Mission Valley. And it's like a whole different world. I mean, I don't... i don't have any problems you know i mean i walk outside and you can you get a faint smell of it but you go you know, maybe five minutes north, and it's overwhelming. So, I mean, it's kind of weird for me. You know, and yesterday, I gathered up all this stuff and was ready to go down to Qualcomm, just happened to turn on the news, and the first thing out of their mouth was, don't bring anything else to Qualcomm. So I was like, oh, that sucks. I would have loved to have contributed a little bit, but, you know, I'm still just kind of waiting and seeing, you know. Yeah, I drove all the way from North County and got to the gate, and they said,
No more donations. Oh, man. So I had to turn around. Why? I guess they got full. Now, from what I'm hearing is it's not like, hey, don't donate anymore. And we'll find out if this is true. Somebody told me they take them up to a certain point in the day. Sure. And then they shut it down so that people can get fed and have lunch and stuff like that. And then the next day they do it again so that they get more food and more, you know, does that make sense? So that their feet, you know, they take enough food that they need for the day and then stop. So they don't have like this, a bunch of stuff that they're going to throw out. Then the next day they do it fresh again. And so that people are continually being fed with fresh food that's coming in. And now the only thing that I don't get is like, you would think that at some point they would get full with the toys and stuff and that it would be too much. So I'm not hearing... See, the stuff that I heard yesterday was they do not want donations at Qualcomm. Period. Anymore. That's what I heard. See, I don't know where the thing... And I'm trying to remember where I heard it from. Because you know how you hear stuff on the news, you hear stuff on the radio, you talk to people, you... Well, I heard what both of you guys are talking about. I heard initially them saying, no more food. We have so much food that...
Stuff is going to go bad if we keep accepting food. And then later on in the day, I heard what Eddie was saying about how they said, you know what, we're good on donations. Yeah, I mean, it was scrolling on the TV. Really? Like, no donations accepted at Qualcomm. So, I don't know. Yeah, we'll get updated info for you on that. What we should try to do, too, is maybe we can get a representative from a couple of the big ones, like Del Mar and Qualcomm, and we'll find out for sure, like, hey, nothing? Del Mar was working really good and it was easy to get in, easy to get out. And what was really cool about Del Mar was seeing all the National Guard, you know, like they're out there now and, you know, you can really see their presence. It's pretty cool. And then listening to the radio, I'm listening to satellite radio and I'm listening to CNN, Fox News.
I'm listening to all these national news reports. And let me tell you something, man. It is so irritating to hear some people that aren't here in San Diego. Because you're hearing the, oh, I understand that the efforts to help displaced people in San Diego is going well. I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that they're not black like they were in Katrina and they're white rich people in San Diego. I knew that was coming. And I was like, wow, that's a boy. That must be a fun thing to write from Michigan. That must be an interesting take to have in Pennsylvania. But hey, here's just something to consider. Miss Pennsylvania is that. The president in Katrina had appointed a buddy who was a complete idiot at FEMA named Mike Brown. And that guy got canned because he was a complete idiot and he couldn't figure it out. And then the president went, well, I guess I better appoint somebody that knows something. So he appointed a new guy named David Paulison, who's the dude now. And this guy's got his act together.
And so after Katrina, they went, well, we better not screw it up again. Okay, so there's one aspect. The other aspect is, you know, we do live in Southern California, and we did have something in 03 here called the Cedar Fires, and we may have learned something. Right. Definitely. We may have learned something from that. So you have those two factors together that go, yeah. Maybe it's not the color of people's skin here in San Diego as to why people are a little bit more comfortable. Maybe we've figured some things out. But thank you for playing the race card, America. Why is it not a positive? Like, hey, wow, the community of San Diego has really come together and have supported people who are evacuated. I mean, we have more. Latino people in this community than we do white just about. Playing a race card is ridiculous. That's what I'm saying. It's a funny card to play if you don't live here. Living here, you go, the rich white factor in terms of these fires is pretty small. This is a fire that's affecting everybody. I'm sorry, fires that are affecting everybody.
Yeah, let's talk about the fire that's down by the border, and let's talk about the fire that's out in Ramona. I mean, these aren't super rich people. These are people that are just trying to make it like all of us. So, I mean, that's a ridiculous take. But it was interesting. It was like, oh, 48 hours apparently is the answer in terms of how long will it take the national media to hone in on Katrina race. Yeah, and I think that that... angle that slant on it is going to get worse over the coming days you'll see you know more and more national uh media trying to paint that picture yeah it's really really sad but you know what as a community i mean what a what a bad a community man i'm so proud of like san diego's rad dude it's amazing like
When you think the Cedar Creek fires and the death and the destruction from that, and how much smaller that is compared to what we've been going through the last couple days. And, you know, I mean, it's sad that anyone died, but just to have one death from all this destruction is very impressive. Yeah, I mean, talk about organization. Yeah, people weren't messing around this time. And I gotta give credit to Schwarzenegger. Like, that dude, he did his part. To make sure that, you know, we're taken care of. But you're looking at over a half a million people displaced. A half a million. Like, think about Qualcomm, man. If Qualcomm is full to capacity, it's about 70,000 people. We're talking half a million people that have been displaced. Those are staggering numbers, man. That's a lot of people.
Yeah, again this morning it was still just an eerie sight driving down the 15 from Escondido and just seeing South Escondido and North Rancho Bernardo pitch black like the area has never been developed. You know, in the nighttime it just looked pitch black like no one's ever lived there. And it's just the trippiest thing to see when you're used to seeing homes and lights and hearing noise and it's really freaky. Yeah, I'm not really sure. I was thinking about it yesterday, too. I was like, what is life going to be like here in San Diego in four months? Yeah, like, what's this going to do to the real estate market? Like, are people going to want to stay here? Are people going to want to leave? Are they going to try and rent? Are they going to try and rebuild? I mean, it'll be very interesting to see how all the cards end up falling after this. Like, what's it going to do to the economy? What's it going to do to this? What's it going to do to that? I mean, you know, do you want to live somewhere where wildfire's a danger? Is, you know, the beauty of San Diego worth it to you? I mean, you know, it'll be interesting to see how people, what their take is after this is all done, you know? 5701053. The Mikey Show is myself. I'm Mikey. I'm the host. Eddie, our producer, our sports guy, Sky, our news girl. Sean, our sound effects guy. Ashley's our assistant producer. Rob's a phone screener.
Zeth, he is automobile-less at this point, right, Zeth? What? Nah, I got it back yesterday. You got it back? Yeah, I was in for like, I don't know, maybe two and a half, three hours. It was $310. Oh. Really? Of course. Yeah, I got it out. Oh, gosh. That is nuts, man. He got his car impounded yesterday, and we were all saying, like, don't they have bigger things to worry about right now? Like of all days. Yeah. Don't the cops have bigger things to worry about than pulling this knucklehead over? Yeah. That was surprising. For expired registration. 570-1053. P1. Beto. Hi, Mikey. Good morning, everybody. Good morning, Beto. I'm just going to say that I heard all day yesterday that the Rock Church was taking donations. People were getting pissed off that the Qualcomm was turning them down, that they were going home, but there's people calling in that the Rock Church was going to take anything, anything they could provide. Well, the Rock Church was opening its doors also for fire victims. They were opening their doors to fire victims. Here, I'll read you exactly what the press release from the Rock Church said. The Rock Church is opening its doors as a shelter to those evacuated from their homes. We will be providing water, food, shelter, and encouragement. Up-to-date information on our efforts will be provided on our website, therocksandiego.org.
Call 619-226-7625 or email firerelief at therocksandiego.org. We're emphasizing the need for donations of sleeping equipment, water, and food, not homemade food. And The Rock's at 2277 Rosecrans Street in San Diego. And you can drop stuff off at the church lobby and stuff like that. It's pretty cool. That's great. And, you know, I was listening, you know, of course, like everybody, I was watching the news around the clock. And when they were reporting on the Rock Church opening up, they were saying, hey, you know, go wherever you feel the most comfortable. But the newscaster was saying, if it was me, I'd go to the Rock Church because they got big screens. You're indoors. You know, I mean, it sounds pretty, pretty nice there. If you have to be out of your home, it sounds like a nice place to be. Yeah, they just opened. It's a brand new building, and it's all pretty in there. Yeah, with the big screens, and they said they have the news going, so you're always... I'm not even evacuated, and I don't want to go down there. Right? Kick back, free meal. Rob's like, yeah, I spent the last two nights here. It's been great. I'm asking if I can just move in. Way better than my place. P1P1 is on the line. How you doing, Mikey? Good, dude.
Good. Hey, I had a question for Sky. Go ahead. I don't know the exact term, but I know she has some sort of Donkey Kong helicopter. Yes, you're talking. It's actually called the Honky Kong 2. Take a helicopter ride in the Honky Kong 2. Yes, the Honky Kong 2 is the helicopter that her white manservant, Ramsey, flies her around in. Right. And what was your question about the Honky Kong 2? We kind of had a laid air assault on the fires. She was hoarding it, I guess. Didn't want to let it be used. What's up with that, Scott? It's probably because it's not equipped for that. It's just for sightseeing. It's exclusively used for commuting. That's hilarious. It's her commuter copter. And also nighttime champagne dinners. Champagne tours of San Diego. Yes, champagne tours. Yes, yes. But only for herself. That's what I do. Not for Citizen. No. Not for Citizen. You can't pay for that. No. But every once in a while, the boo and I will load up on a wonderful summer evening, and we will take champagne. Strawberries. Strawberries. Chocolate dipped strawberries. Yes, of course. Yes. And sometimes on a Sunday afternoon, perhaps go up for a little picnic. Maybe some brie. Little brie.
And we'll put it on a nice little sourdough bread and we'll enjoy it. Come on. Eat me the grapes, boo. Yes. Shut up. And we'll shoot off some firearms into the air. What? Please. What? Please. Just for fun. You know. Funsies. Sunday evening. That's if we're in, you know, funny mood. Funny mood? Funny mood. It'll be like... Let's look at poor people and fire off firearms. Really weird. If we're going romantic, we just count our money. Yes. Oh, my gosh. There's nothing better to discuss right now. 974,005. Okay. What you got there, boo? A five? Throw it out the window. Oh, stop it. We don't need that. All right. Yes, we use instead of clay pigeons, we shoot at fives. Oh, missed it. Oh, well. Who cares? Stop it. Throw up a hundred, boo. I want the challenge. I want a challenge. Stop it.
It's terrible. It is terrible. Sky, you're awesome. None of this is true. None of this is true. You wouldn't even let him use it. Of course you can't use it. It's for sightseeing. Stop it. P1, Brooke. Brooke, what's going on? I'm at the Mira Mesa High School Evacuation Center. And I believe that we can still take donations for food. We're also taking, we have lots of animals and we have lots of cage space. So if anybody needs help evacuating their pets, we have lots of cage space for animals. We can take care of them here if owners are too distressed. Hey, Brooke, I was wondering about you guys yesterday in the Mira Mesa. evacuation point. It's at Mira Mesa High School, right? Yeah. And where is it located? Mesa Boulevard. It's on Mira Mesa Boulevard? In Reagan. Okay, cool. They've been there the longest. That was one of the first places they had as evacuation site. So they probably need quite a bit of stuff. So if you still want to donate, that's a great place to go and donate. There you go. P1 Break Styles. Hey, what's going on, guys? What's up, man?
I called yesterday as soon as I got off work. I wanted to help with what I could. And I called the volunteer line because I know a lot of people were just going around showing up at places and they didn't need them. And they said right now they're just taking numbers and they're calling people back. That way they can delegate people where they need them the most. And I asked if I could just get some bottled water and like 20 bucks to donate and just head down to Qualcomm. And she said, honestly, like the volunteers are just bumping into each other over there. Yeah. Isn't that crazy? That's awesome. That's amazingly awesome. Like, they have too many volunteers. Yeah. Well, that's one thing we've kind of known about this place, is that in a lot of ways, San Diego can be very brash. We know that in terms of sports teams, unless they're winning, they're not going to be supported. But when something happens, people in San Diego are like no other, man. They come together. That includes like sporting events. Yeah. Like when we're going good, there is no better fan in the world. Yeah. You know? And when something goes bad like this, you know, I mean, it is kind of like a small community. Yeah. You know, where everybody rallies and are like, you know what? We're not going to let bad things happen to our peeps. Yeah. It doesn't have a big town feel when bad stuff happens. It has a very small town feel in San Diego, which is cool. That's cool, man. Okay. Lighter side stuff. Tonight.
The World Series begins. Oh, my gosh. Wow. Boy, I hope they show it, Rob. Who's playing? Oh, my goodness. Eddie. Eddie. Dude, I didn't even. Eddie. What? How could you do? Rob. Rob. Boston Rob. Boston Rob. Did you consider this? That it might not be shown? Yeah. Yeah, I was thinking about it. Oh, my gosh. That's all right. What will you do? I'm asking for donations of people that will take me to Mexico. One of my boys is going to be at the game tonight, so I'll get updates from him. I have game day on my phone and MLB.com. You can watch the game. Where is your buddy's seats? I don't know. He texts me a picture of the tickets. Like, I don't know why to rub it in, maybe, yesterday. And I wanted to cry because on Sunday... Why? Would you want to be there? Listen to this. On Sunday, he calls me up and says, Hey, listen, man. You might have to ask for some time off work. I have one extra ticket and your airfare.
I started freaking out. And then about 10 minutes later, he calls me back. He goes, oh, my uncle just called me and said he's going to end up gone. Why would you put that in your head? That's awful. That's all I've been thinking about. I had to hurt. So, I don't know. I have ways to watch this game. I have ways. Well, it's on Fox, right? It's supposed to be, yeah. It's supposed to be on Fox. I bet they show it. They're going to show it. I mean, already last night CBS switched to primetime programming. ABC and NBC still were with full-time coverage. And so you've got to think Fox, which is the lesser out of the four news networks, is going to play the World Series. I have a prediction, but I'm obviously not going to say it. I'm going to put it in an envelope. Whisper it. Whisper it in my ear. Write it down. Write it down. I'm going to put it in an envelope. Yeah, seal it. I'm going to put it in a sealed envelope. Don't mail it to me, though.
Don't you do it. I'll let you open it after this. I don't have anything. Can I say my prediction? No. I'm the Oracle. I'm the Oracle. Can I just leave the studio? Why? I'm the Oracle. Leave the studio because I want to say mine, too. I want to say what I think, too. Leave the studio for me. Yeah, get out of here, you. Poor Boston Rob. He's a big Red Sox fan. Yeah, a little bit. You know what I honestly think, Eddie? I honestly think that the Sox are going to sweep the series. Yeah. You know, the unfortunate part for the Rockies, they were so hot, and they had to wait eight days because they swept their series, and the ALCS went seven games. So that has to kill some momentum, you know, sitting around for eight days. And baseball is 100% a game of momentum. And so I actually am picking the Red Sox in five. I have an ignorant question. Oh, I love it. How do the Sox normally do against the Rockies? They don't ever play because they're... They've never really played. They probably have a couple times. Yeah, I heard they played... Shut up, Sean. I heard that they played this season. That they played one, you know, because we were doing all that intermobile stuff. Yeah, the interleague stuff, but it's not a regular matchup. And I heard that when it happened that...
Josh Beckett shut him down. Josh Beckett's a pitcher starting tonight for the Red Sox. He's their ace. I'm going to look it up real quick. And he shut him down. Because don't the Rockies suck? No, dude. They've been on fire. They're in the World Series. I know, but aren't they normally... If you asked that question a month and a half ago, the answer would have been, yeah, they kind of suck. Diamondbacks, Rockies. I always feel like those are the... Diamondbacks led... the National League West for most of the season, right, Eddie? Yeah. Yeah, I mean, it was the Padres, D-backs, Dodgers, all kind of battling for that first place. And then the Rockies just got so hot at the end of the year, they snuck into the playoffs by going in that last, very last game of the season. Rob's back. Which had to be a playoff game between the Rockies and the Padres. And they barely snuck in and then completely just destroyed everybody since then. Gotcha. So what do you think of this matchup, Boston Rob? Josh Beckett versus Jeff Francis. Beckett's the best pitcher in the postseason right now. He's good. He's going to come out there and just throw fire. Fire will come off of the ball tonight. That guy is just in the zone. Boston Rob has so much stuff in his heart for the Boston Red Sox that when he starts to talk, it's as if you're trying to squeeze...
5,000 pounds of toothpaste out of that little hole in the toothpaste. You know, and you're just squeezing it and you're like, nothing's coming out, nothing's coming out. These Rockies have been doing, what, batting practice for the past eight days? Well said. We are in the zone right now. I can't win it. Hey, listen, as pumped up as you sound right now, I know you're going to be miserable watching the game. Yeah, but that's just a part of it. He's going to be miserable. I deal with it. Like, it's going to be 16-0 socks, and he'll be like, oh, no. Don't put in there and gag me. Oh, no. Oh, Jesus. But when it's good, it's good. When it's bad, you just kind of ride it out. First pitch, 535, Tim Wakefield. Has been left off the roster. Yeah. Lester's going to go game four. Who? Who is? John Lester. Is he any good? Yeah. He just beat cancer this past year. So he can beat anybody. He can beat the Rockies if he can beat cancer, right? Yeah. His record against cancer is really good. Like every time they play, he wins. So far. So far.
I hope his record is just as good against the Rockies. Yeah, and if there's a problem, if they're not doing well, they may throw Beckett back out there at Game 4 instead of Lester. I heard the press conference with Cancer after they played. Oh, yeah. And? What'd they say? And Cancer was like, hey, listen, hats off to the guy. He's good. You know, we went out there, we gave it our all. We tried pancreatic. We tried... I mean, we did it all. I mean, we tried our best to kill this guy, and he just wasn't having it. It just wasn't our time. It wasn't our day. We did liver stuff, everything. But we just want to let everybody know, probably next season, we'll be back. We're going to draft lymphoma. We'll be back. Yeah, exactly. We're thinking about lymphoma next year. We're going to give it another shot. We'll see what happens. Draft lymphoma. That's right. Oh, good trade. We thought we had it going good in those first couple of innings. His hair was falling out. And we were like, you know, we think we got this thing. And then as it kept going on, we just realized, like, you know what? He was beating us and forget it. Well, they put in chemo, you know. What are you going to do at that point? That's right. Chemo K. Chemo K. Chemo K is like their best player. Rookie of the year. So we'll live to kill another day. There it is. Oh, my God. Rocky sold.
Rocky sold out three games after fixing the online ticket problem. What was that about, Eddie? Feels good, by the way, to talk about something other than the Flyers, doesn't it? Oh, yeah. Oh, it feels so good. Literally like a breath of pressure. It is. Yeah, it was a big mess. The Rockies, obviously not in this position ever before, not very smart, decided to sell all their tickets online. Oh, no. Come on. Yeah, that was their big decision. You know, like, that's not going to cause any problems at all. No, that won't upset anyone. Well, which is basically an invitation to hackers, to brokers, to sell tickets to Red Sox fans. I mean, it was a big nightmare in Colorado. And everybody was really angry. So they ended up fixing it. And, you know, because the site shut down. Hackers got in. I mean, everything you could imagine did. You got to hand it to the Red Sox in that regard. In that. At least in Boston and in New York, they're kind of used to being in the postseason. Right. So they've got it figured out a little bit. In Colorado, they're like... That's an exact quote. That was an exact quote. And part of the cool thing about being in postseason in the World Series is camping out and getting tickets in line. I mean, that's kind of a rite of passage to me. Well said.
Jeez, guys. And Shauna's all excited about the Rockies in it. Zeth told me yesterday. Oh, come on. Are you kidding me? She hasn't even talked about baseball. Hold on, hold on. She's wearing a Rockies hat here. No, no. She was giving me stuff because, you know, it's her Rockies now, whatever. And Zeth tells me she's wearing a Boston hat yesterday. What? I can't wait. Get her on the phone. Oh, no. Sorry, Zeth. Our program director, Shauna. Zeth is fired. Our program director, for those of you that don't know, our program director, Shauna, best program director in the country, by the way, she came to San Diego from Denver. And so, like, when, and all you hear from her all year long is, Padres, Chargers, Padres, unless Denver does something, I mean, the Broncos do something, or the Rockies do something. And then suddenly. Out of nowhere. I'm a dad. Oh, boy. Yeah. Ay-yi-yi with her. Wearing her Boston hat. And then she wore a Red Sox hat. That's hilarious. She's crazy, man. Well, I'm excited to watch this tonight. Oh, and mom's making tacos tonight, too. Sweet. I'll be evacuated at about 5.30 tonight. We'll take a couple of fire calls here in a second because people are calling in and want to get some info out.
It's not necessarily info. One guy wants to vent, and the other gal wants to talk about what's going on in Chula Vista with her pets. What'd she say, Ashley? I had to leave a message. Whatever. She's probably asleep. P1, Amanda? Yes, good morning. Go ahead. I just wanted to let everyone know, you know, we're in a part of Chula Vista that hasn't been evacuated, but the... You know, the effects from the smoke and ash are evident all over the county, especially around here. And I just want to let people know that even if you have pets that are outside that have, you know, a shelter to go in, they might be safe from the falling ash, but they're still running around in that smoke-filled air, and they need to remember, if possible, to bring them inside. Because we have people, you know, they've got... Big backyards that are great for their pets to run around in. But until the smoke clears, you know, it's really hard on their lungs and their bodies to be breathing that in all day long. So if possible, bring them inside, you know, give them a break. Because they're, you know, we've got neighbors that just left their dogs outside all day yesterday. Oh, no. You know, and on top of the heat, you know, there's the smoke issue too.
So there's no way that's healthy. If you have a hard time taking a deep breath, your pet who is outside all day is obviously going to have a hard time. So I just want to remind people to bring them in if possible. I appreciate that. Thank you for calling in, Amanda. Thank you. See ya. Sky, are your cats acting weird? Well, they kind of acted weird because we spent, you know, not last night, but the night before at my parents' house in San Marcos. And so they were, you know, being a little weird because obviously cats, you know, don't like to change environments. But no, besides that, they've been pretty cool. Like, I don't think they really realize anything's going on. I mean, we've been really, really good, though, about keeping our house close up tight. Like, my husband went around and taped up all the vents in the house. So the exhaust vent over the stove, the exhaust vents in the bathroom. room. He taped them all up with plastic and tape just trying to keep every bit of fresh air in the house that we have. Jules is acting weird. Doing what? Watching Elvis movies, walking around in grass skirts. Just being weird. What are you doing? I'm all like concerned and like really interested to hear what you have to say. And then you come out with grass skirts and Elvis. You walk out and you see Tango or Logan watching just pure Elvis movies. You're like, are you going to be done with that sometime soon? And he's like, yeah, that's a good part.
That does seem weird. The good part. Cats do not provide milk or wool or meat. Stupid. Am I getting the whole thing, the good part? It looks like I've gone on both schedules for the Rockies and Red Sox. It looks like they only played one series, which is kind of weird to me, to which the Rockies won two games to one. Oh, really? Yeah. But they had to have had a home and home, which is, I can't find it. You guys? Everybody hear that? Rockies won two games and I won. That's all right. They outscored us by something ridiculous. Yeah, first game, Boston won 2-1, and then the Rockies won 12-2, and then 7-1. That was in Colorado. Oh, no, at Boston. Sorry. Yeah, they gave Beckett his first loss. Wakefield was the only one that beat him. He pitched the first night. Okay, that's what I heard. I thought I heard that Beckett killed him. I heard the other way around.
They killed Beckett, yeah. They beat him up. Wow. I'm nervous. Good luck. Not me. Beckett is the man right now. The man. Got his eye on the prize. He's a man. He's huge. On the phone with me right now, Josh Beckett. Josh, welcome to the Jim Rohn show. Did anybody see Papelbon's dance? Has anybody seen this? I'm just saying it's stupid. Sorry, it's embarrassing. How about the changes that they have made to the NFL draft? I don't know how I feel about this. Come on, Eddie. It's been the same way for so many years. There's only one thing I don't like about it. Okay. And that's that they are going to do it at 3 o'clock instead. I don't like that. I don't like that either. Basically, they've shortened it, which is good because it took six hours last year for the first round. Okay. So they've shortened it from 15 minutes, the first round from 15 minutes to 10 minutes. Now, you've got to know what that means, this guy. Yeah, each player. Each pick. Each pick. Each pick.
Yeah, so that's good. And then the second round is shortened from 10 to 7. And then the first day, they usually have the first three rounds. Now they're only having the first two rounds. So those are the big changes. But the one that Mikey's talking about is the draft always starts at 12 Eastern. And now they're having it start at 3 Eastern to kind of get more prime time coverage. Which is just going to make Eddie and I's day. Weirder, longer. Weirder, longer, stronger. See, it used to be a situation where Eddie is a madman. He stays at that damn draft until they kick him out on the first day. I stay for the first round and go back to the hotel and get ready for us to go eat. And I'm like, I go home. I've got time to, you know, I go back to the hotel and I got time to take a little nap, wake up. You're like, that was great. Jump in the shower, get ready for dinner. And Eddie will stay there till they kick him out, man. Like if I had my druthers, I would go the second day as well and stay the whole time. But we usually fly back on Sunday.
So now, Eddie, how long will the draft, what time do you think the draft will end? Well, you've got to figure that's probably going to cut at least maybe an hour and a half off that first round. And if it was six hours last year, it's going to be about four and a half. So it'll probably end about 8 o'clock Eastern, which is about the same time it would have ended. I always thought it was done, well, the first round you're saying? Yeah. I always thought that first round was done about 6 Eastern. Oh, I guess that's the time I go back. You leave. Yeah, I leave about 8. I'm telling you, man. He will sit through that whole damn thing. I want to, but then we make dinner plans, and I have to go, and I don't want to. That's so cute, Eddie. That's pretty awesome. The Chargers are still in limbo. Shut up. Dean Spanos is meeting with Roger Goodell. I don't want to. Today? She's something else. Yeah, you actually met with him yesterday and he's still there, I think, and they're trying to figure it out. They're sleeping together right now. Yeah, I believe they're cuddling. Just waking up. You want to start the talks again? Put the coffee on. What's going on, Ash? Rick can give us a traffic report. I know there's major stuff going on right now if we want it. Okay.
Rick, are you there? Yeah, Mikey, good morning. What's going on on the roadway? Hey, guys, have you been talking about the five at all? Have you mentioned that? Uh-uh, we haven't. Just in talking or anything like that? No. Whoa. Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait. You mean Camp Pendleton. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We mentioned it briefly, but what's going on? Okay, in a nutshell, the five is shut down in both directions from the 76, where you enter Camp Pendleton pretty much, all the way to Christianitos coming out of San Clemente, that whole stretch. is inaccessible. You just can't do it. And they stopped all rail service through the area as well. So the only other option to get in or out of San Diego right now is at 15, which is open. But right now, if you need to, I guess, go from the 5 to the 15, the 78 is looking clear for you. But as this commute wears on, man, that's going to feel a lot of stress because that's the only way to go this morning. So I head up north from the 15 last... word I got was Ortega Highway is open. It's kind of a squirrely ride though, man. I wouldn't drive that road on a normal day. But if you go all the way up to 91, that's the only other option. And you know, that 91 freeway is always pretty much heavy and messed up. But again, you don't have a lot of options around here this morning for that sake. Right now, we've got some other closures. Things have kind of changed a little bit. The 67, now they've opened it up up to as far as Scripps Poway Parkway coming north. But beyond there, still closed all the way to Ramona. You've got the 94
still shut down from Steel Canyon at the Forest Gate. The 78 from Bear Valley all the way east of Santa Isabel. Julian's being evacuated right now. There are some hot spots I'm noticing here still in the South Bay around Sweetwater Reservoir, Hamishaw Road, Mount Miguel still. And if you're in the areas that you need to evacuate, your roads are looking good out of there over to the 805 freeway here in the South Bay. And pretty much if you're still like in, say, Solana Beach or Carlsbad and they've got some involuntary evacuations in those areas, roads are looking good over to the 5 freeway. And you can get out from there pretty much. So that's it, Mikey. I have a good question. Yeah. If P1s maybe have something that they want to call in and tell you, a new traffic update or something, is there still a number they can call? Oh, absolutely. You know what? Thanks for bringing that up. I meant to mention that, but I just kind of spaced there. Thanks, Ashley. It's 858. 467-0504. Once again, that's 858-467-0504. That's our total traffic tip line. Myself or someone else here in the traffic area will answer the phone. And if you can give us a tip on something you see that we're not talking about or maybe that you think is of concern or whatever, please do. Please give us a call and don't hesitate and we'll pass that information on. Thanks, Ashley. Thank you, Rick. The deal, the Camp Pendleton fire that he's talking about is called the Horno fire.
And what's the deal with it, Skye? Well, what I heard this morning when I got up is that basically the Horno fire has burned about 6,000 acres and is moving north and west between Las Pulgas Road and the Border Patrol checkpoint. And that there were fires going on at Pendleton is what I heard and that they started to, they tried to do a fire break. and basically the wind kind of kicked up the wrong way, and that's what made the fire jump the five and set the median of the five on fire there. So they're trying to fight that, but with the winds kind of changing around and stuff, it hasn't really helped them at all. What about the other ones? Like, what's the deal with the witch fire, and is that still the real bad one? I believe the Witch Fire is the worst fire in terms of like, you know, acreage and kind of blazing out of control and containment and everything, but it is remote. So it's like the Pendleton Fire on the scale isn't that huge, but it's affecting a lot of people because it's closing down the five. Now, they do say they believe that the Witch Fire and the Pumacha Fire, which is the fire out by...
the La Jolla Indian Reservation, Palomar Mountain, Valley Center area, that those two fires have merged, creating a 200,000-acre blaze that remains out of control out in that area. P1 Poncho? Yeah. What's up? Hey, I'm a new P1, and I just wanted to comment on yesterday on the Border Patrol. They set up a checkpoint in the middle of Orson site yesterday, and... You know, I kind of think they should, they can be doing something, something else to help other people, you know? They were looking for illegals? Yeah. I agree with you. I think they should be putting, I mean, yesterday, what's, yesterday, Zeth got pulled over and his car was impounded. I was going, hey, man, like, the police, all officials should probably give word of like, hey, you got to keep doing your job and everything. Yeah. But let's also focus on the bigger stuff. Yeah. You know what I mean? I got pulled over. They're like, are you American citizen? I was like, yes. Can I see your documentation or license? I was like, here it is. Okay, you can go. I'm like, can you guys be doing something better, you know? Our city is burning down. Yeah. No, I agree, man. I'll agree with you. Thank you, bro. Thank you. I agree, too, dude. Really, Beto? No. Whoa. Beto.
I'm Uncle Mikey's nephew. You school off today, Beto? No, I'm going to school in the fire, dude. Maybe Ashley didn't know. Schools have been canceled for the whole week. Yeah, dude, we're going to have a barbecue at school. That's stupid. It was stupid, Beto, but you don't need to sit. I mean... Yeah, okay, here I go off to school. No, well, we don't want you to do that. It was a question, bro. Has anybody seen my backpack? Hey, I'm sorry. Oh, no, wait, it's on fire. It's stupid. Okay, I'm sorry. Oh, my gosh. It was a damn question, Beto. Hey. Have you already been drinking? Beto, why do you have those masks you're supposed to wear on your elbows? Like, that's not a fashion standard. No, that's not what they're meant for. They're my shoulder pads. Well, no, they're on your elbows. My elbow pads. Hey, I have a question. Yeah, bro.
Has anybody taken Sean Sean to animal rescue? What the hell? That's a good question. Has anybody taken Uncle Sean Sean to a place where he can get fresh bamboo? Actually, Beto, I think he's safe because he's up in the Bay Area. Yeah, it's nice that you're concerned. If he were down here, then we would have to take Sean Sean to a... My name is not Sean Sean. Yeah, dude, you're a panda bear. I am not. You are. I'm not. Yes, you are. No, I am not. You're getting angry. If you were here... No, I'm not. If you were here, then we would have to take you to the fairgrounds to seek shelter. Really? Yes. Well, if you were here, I'd shoot you in the face. You would? Now, why would you shoot a person in the face just trying to help you? He's not trying to help me. He's trying to irritate me. No. Uncle Sean Sean is a panda bear. I am not. It's not even funny. You would have to eat bamboo. And you would have to have fresh water. And then you would have to go number two outside. Instead of in the enclosure of your own beautiful home. He is into bamboo.
And Pervo stuff. I've heard that. I have heard that. That is true, but you don't. That is not true. It just makes him angry. That is not true. See? Look what you're doing. Oh. I thought I heard that. It's a panda bear. We know. We know. Very cute. Take it easy. Very cute. Let's see. P1 Morgan, what's going on? Not much. I was just trying to get him to work down in O'Horno. You can see the fire from San Clemente coming up on the mountain. All the way from San Clemente? Yes. And the five, there's 18-wheelers all along on the five going down south. It's just packed. Hey, thank you. I appreciate it, man. No problem. And I guess today, San Onofre up in San Clemente, you know, the nuclear power facility there was supposed to do their annual community alert siren test. And they have decided, you know what, because of all the wildfires, everybody being on edge, we are going to postpone that test today. What else can they postpone? Well, no, it's a good thing, Eddie. Come on. I look forward to that every year. No, you don't. You don't even know they do that. You didn't even know. What's next? P1, Ben? Yes. What's going on, man? Yeah, I just, P1, whoever it was, just called about the Border Patrol.
I just wanted to say something about the fact that this is what makes America great, is that even though we have the worst wildfires that are happening possibly in the entire country, history of the country, that the reason that we can have a sense of normalcy is because we do have the Border Patrol and the public officials, and even as much as we hate it, the people writing parking tickets and things like that, making sure that people who don't have the community's best interest in mind. are taken care of and getting off the streets so that a bad situation doesn't get worse. And so I just want to say, you know, don't give them such a hard time. They're doing their jobs, and it's a lot more than we might get if we, let's say, we're in a third-world country or something like that. I disagree, dude. Well, that makes a good point. I got arrested yesterday. No, you didn't. I did, too. For what? What did you do? For what? I was spray painting the freeways. You were tagging. I was tagging. And all I was doing was tagging and drinking a 40. No, you weren't. You're only 14. You're 14. That's a little boy. That's all I was doing. You're a baby. And the cop was all.
Hey, what are you doing? And I was all, what, you want to go? No, you go. He said that to a cop. Talk like that. That was a lie. And he pulled out his gun, and I was all, yeah, dude, I'm not even afraid. And he was all, this is all not true. Yeah, what do you say after that? He's all, let's go, bro. You're 115. The cop said to you, let's go, bro. He said, let's go, bro. Yeah, he was all, let's go, bro. And so I whipped off my wife, Peter. Okay. And I was all, come on, dude. Was your chest hair all hanging out? You don't even have any. He was all, whoa, dude, you're ripped. And he got in his car and he left. That's a lie. Beto. And I was all, yeah, dude, I'm yoked. Hey, Beto, what did I tell you about lying? Knock it off. I agree with you, though, Ben. Thank you, man. Thank you for the call. P1 Nacho. Hey, Mikey, what's up, man? What's going on, dude? Hey, I just want to say about the Border Patrol thing. I'm a cop and I got called into work because of the wildfires last night. And so I was out in Hamul doing security patrols and checking on people's houses, make sure no one's losing them or anything. And there must have been at least like 12 Border Patrol units out there, dude, like working and getting it done. Hey, I got a question for you then. What's up? What is the deal? Is the Border Patrol really doing stops right now to check if people are citizens?
I don't know about that, but how it normally works is that they have people who are normally scheduled to work. So, like, I wasn't normally scheduled to work for my department, so I got called in for the special detail. Hey, I get harassed. Every day, dude, to find out if I'm a citizen. No, you do not. No, you do not. This is a real police officer. Mind your manners. Mind your manners. I'm from America, bro. Mind your manners. Stop it. No one said you weren't. Just because I have a full goatee. No, you don't. I'm looking right at you. And just because I'm yoked and I'm 19, dude. You're 14. Whatever. Sorry, sir. Thank you, Nacho. I appreciate the input, man. Thank you. No problem, man. We'll see you. P1 Jason, what's going on? Hey, Mikey. I was just wondering if you guys have heard anything about the water quality. There must be runoff from the fire hose. That's a good question. Yesterday, I was on a really, really good website. In fact, I want to give this website to everybody. I found this website yesterday. It's an official San Diego website, and it is...
It is www.sdcountyemergency.com. And if you go there, you can pretty much get some up-to-the-minute information. And one of the things that they were saying was that it's probably a good idea for people in Ramona to start to boil their water. And that was for the city of Ramona. Now, other areas of San Diego County haven't said anything like that. Ashley, what do you got? I think you misunderstood my question. I was talking about the... Like the runoff to the ocean? Yeah.
I haven't heard anything about that, which is kind of weird. Like, you know, normally after we get a rain here, they'll say, hey, stay out of the ocean for a couple days because of the runoff of all the pesticides. Well, you would think with all the smoke in the air plus all the water from the fires, you know, being fought, where is that water going? And is that water getting into our oceans? And is that affecting the levels of the ocean? And is it safe for people to be out surfing today? But no, if I see anything, I'll make sure to mention it over the air, but I haven't seen anything regarding that. All right, dude. Thank you, man. Ash, what's going on? We've got a new report, the latest from Kogo under FM News Primary. Oh, wait a minute. Good morning, I'm Delaina Bennett. Here's the latest from AM600 COGO. More than 500,000 people out of their homes here in San Diego County fleeing these fires that have burned more than 400,000 acres. So far, the fires have injured 21 firefighters and at least 24 other people. One person was killed by the flames and four other deaths are listed as being connected to the fires. San Diego County school officials say all classes and programs are canceled for the rest of the week.
There's at least one new fire burning, and it is at Camp Pendleton. That has prompted the CHP to close a stretch of Interstate 5, and Metrolink train service in that area is also suspended. That's called the Horno Fire. It is between the 76 and Los Cristianitos Road. The evacuation of Duluth... is now going on. That is the community on the northwest border of the Marine Base. Elsewhere, the Witch Fire has merged with the smaller Pumaca Fire, and it has created a monster fire line in the North County. The Pumaca Fire is the fire that erupted on the La Jolla Indian Reservation, and all 50 homes have been destroyed in that area, and it has burned over 20,000 acres. Mandatory evacuation orders are now in effect for 167 households in Birch Hill. near Palomar Mountain. That's Birch Hill being evacuated this morning. And you are urged to go to the Temecula Community Center on Rancho Vista Road in Temecula. In the North County, the Witch Fire has burned 200,000 acres, just 1% contained.
Prompted the evacuations of Julian, San Luis Ray Heights, and Winter Warm. And evacuees are being directed west on Highway 76 to MiraCosta College and Borrego High School. All the ash in the air. It's no wonder the air quality is going to be very, very poor today. And if you have any respiratory problems, please stay inside. In the Fallbrook Fire, 7,500 acres have burned and it's destroyed more than 200 homes. And one firefighter was injured in that. That started in the Rice Canyon area. And in the South Bay, the Harris Fire. The Harris Fire has now been 10% contained. 70,000 acres have been burned. Good news there is the aerial attack continues this morning. 200 homes have been lost in the Harris Fire. However, firefighters were able to save about 250 threatened homes in Spring Valley and in Hamul. Weather should get better today. There's still going to be gusty winds about 40 miles per hour this morning, but by this afternoon and later this evening, the red flag warning is going to expire, meaning cooler temperatures for our firefighters. That's the latest for continuing coverage. Go to AM600 COGO.
That at Qualcomm, they are still looking for some stuff. Specifically, surgical gloves, baby wipes, diaper sizes one and two, Desitin, which is, man, we're going through the Desitin thing right now. Is that for diaper rash? Yeah. Can openers, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, female hygiene products, hand sanitizer. So that's what they need out there at Qualcomm. So, yeah, we were all kind of wondering, like, are they going to allow more supplies? And I guess this is what they need. That sounds like Sean's shopping list every week. That's very true. That is very true. 570-1053 is a phone number. And, you know, we're running commercial free. And so it's going to be that way until 10 o'clock this morning. We're running commercial free. You can call in about anything you want the whole time we're on the air. For a lot of stations, I was thinking about this the other day, for some stations it must be weird. For us doing the 28-hour show? Yeah, cakewalk. Yeah, you know what I mean? P1 Andrea. Yeah. Go ahead. I just wanted to add on to what that guy was saying earlier. And right now is when all the illegal people are trying to come over is because they think that all of our officials are totally busy.
And they think, oh, we can just get through and, you know, nobody's going to find us. But then they get caught. This is a prime time for them to be in their tunnels right now and for them to be crossing because... Andrea, maybe it is. I guess it's just not as big of a priority to me personally. This is just me, my opinion. For me personally, it's not as big of a priority as the fires are. But I also, like, don't get me wrong. Like, I also understand you can't just, like, hang it up and be like, oh, all... You know, all rules are open. It's not like that either. Like, I don't expect them to abandon the border. I don't want them to abandon the border. But to be doing immigration check stops in Oceanside, that I think is a little silly. You know what I just thought, Sky? You know what I just thought about it? What? I wonder what... I would have liked to have seen it for myself because if it's a couple of officers out there... Okay. If it's... We've seen it before where it's a bunch of officers.
Like where you have a ton of guys. Where they're basically stopping all traffic. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. And if it's that, you know, but it probably isn't. Yeah, who knows. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm like. It was just one guy calling and saying. Yeah, and it may have been one Border Patrol guy. Right. Who knows? I don't know. But, so it's not, like I said, I'm not going, well, all bets are off and you can do whatever you want. It's not that. It's just that let's pool the resources to where they're needed. Yeah. That's my point. P1 David, you there? Yeah, not to beat a dead horse or whatever, but I actually worked for the Border Patrol, and I was assigned up in that area not last night, but the night before. And our assignments were to work the fire line in Fallbrook and to demand security for some of the shelters to watch over those people and everything like that, make sure that everything needed. So if there was any kind of immigration inspection going on, it was in conjunction with what they were already doing.
So it just may have been something fishy that they saw, and so they did what they needed to do. But we weren't setting up checkpoints or anything like that. We were trying to help out people get out of the way. And I know for a fact that I had a partner that saved another cop's house. And so we were working the fire and watching out for other people. Sweet. And that sounds perfect. That's, you know. Right. That's what we would want them to be doing. A lot of fire patrols have been assigned out. I mean, there's a couple of us that still are on the line. Most of the guys have been sent up and they're helping out with the fire, especially with our specialty units and stuff like that. So, yeah, I don't know. I didn't hear of any checkpoints going on that night. We had other things going on. Yeah, this wasn't at night. This guy said it was during the day. Yeah, I highly doubt it, in all honesty, because our assignments were to go help out the firefighters wherever they needed help. All right, brother. I think it was kind of one of those freak incidents or whatever, maybe. Thank you. Appreciate it. Let's see. P1, Doc. Good morning, Mike. Good morning. What's up, Doc? Wow, that's not out. I'm so sorry. Doc, I'm really... Everybody really listening. I apologize. Was it too early? It's quite all right. Go ahead, Doc. Thank you. Yes, I was just going to say, after the smoke clears from this incident, no pun intended,
I'm sure that the P1 Army can get together to do something. I mean, because there's going to be tons of needed supplies, funds, and different things. We did so well with the 28-hour show with the donation drive that went for that. I'm just saying to everybody, get ready to help each other out after this. Yeah, you can count on it. We're all in this together. And we showed California pretty much what we can do just as P1s. You know, people knock on us all the time because we listen to rock and because of the station. We pull together and we do some good for the community. I'd like to see that again. No, dude, I totally agree. And you can count on the P1 Army coming together when this is all done. Sounds good. Count me in, too, please. Any way that we can help. Yeah. You got it, man. Thanks. Get us all together. Thank you. Appreciate it. Let's see what they're saying opening the Today Show this morning.
Rockefeller Plaza. And good morning, everyone. Welcome to today on Wednesday morning, 7 a.m. Pacific time. I'm Matt Lauer. And I'm Meredith Fier. And welcome back, Matt. Good to be back. We witnessed quite a scene in Southern California. You know, Meredith, I can't tell you it's a mess out there. I feel so bad for the people there. Not only the folks who've lost their homes, other people who've been evacuated. They've got to find places to stay. Then there's just the quality of life out there right now. The air smells of smoke. It's everywhere. Ash is flying. Now, this is interesting because what they're doing right now. is the Today Show Live. It's done for the people on the East Coast. But when Matt Lauer just said it's 7 o'clock Pacific, that means that they're doing a live deal. Like they have them staying, especially for people on the West Coast. And the uncertainty of not knowing where this is going to go next. It's just starting to sink in for so many people. No question. There you're looking at live pictures of San Diego County. The numbers seem to be getting worse. Here's the latest. Fires have now burned across 640 square miles. Think of an area the size of about half of Rhode Island. More than half a million people have been forced to flee, and some 1,300 homes have now been destroyed. But there is good news even with those bad numbers.
While it's still windy today in Southern California, gusts up to about 45 miles per hour, the Santa Ana winds are expected to calm down a little later on. And they could use some good news because as you can see, more than a dozen fires are burning across the region. One firefighter says he's never seen anything like it. The biggest one has a very appropriate name. It's called the Witch Fire. fire. It's burned nearly 200,000 acres and destroyed over 600 homes. Now here's how quickly it grew from Monday afternoon to the same time on Tuesday. That's right. Remember those fires and how they looked from the NASA satellite, these space images? Remember what it looked like on Sunday when they began? Here's another one taken on Monday afternoon. Holy cow. They're showing a satellite image and it's just unbelievable how you can see the smoke. It's a real satellite image from space of the West Coast, and it's just unbelievable how you can see the smoke. It's thick. And you'll see the enormous difference in the amount of smoke that's in the atmosphere. We're all over this story again. We've got correspondents in that area. We're going to check with them in just a little while. Some rain would be awesome. We need some rain. Really bad.
Have you been watching, like, what TV coverage are you watching? Everything. I'm all over. Yeah, I try to absorb it all. You see Katie Couric was here yesterday? No. Yeah, she was at Qualcomm. Really? Yeah. But, oh, my gosh, dude. I don't know if you saw this or not, but Sean Stiles for Channel 8. Oh, yeah, I did see that. Did you see what he was? Where he was fighting the fire and he was pulling the hose. I was embarrassed. I was like, yeah. tool. Wait, tell me. Okay, so they show him on location at this house and he's got on the mask and he's got on the fire coat, the yellow fire coat and everything. And there are firefighters around him. They let the media in and this firefighter is putting out this fire that's burning on a deck. And he is behind that firefighter and he's He gets the hose, and he's like, while reporting. And he's screaming at other firefighters, like, we need more hose. Come on. Okay, shut up. And I'm like, you're Sean Stiles. Like, what are you doing? Get out of there. You're in the way, dude. I'm telling you. I laughed out loud. I was 50.
I was 50-50. 50% of me is like, good for you, bro, out there helping. The other 50% of me is like, get out of there. I was 100% of you're a tool and you need to get out of there. Let them do their job. It was pretty crazy. Here's Schwarzenegger thanking the firefighters. Cut eight. We have over 10,000 firefighters that are fighting all over the state of California. And I want to just say again, thank you very much to those firefighters. For their courage, we are without any doubt the most courageous, brave, and talented and best trained firefighters in the world fighting our fires in California. So I'm very proud of them. And I think we should give them a big hand for the great work that they are doing. He's right, man. That is a whole, like, different type of man and woman. The firefighters. Like, they got stones. Oh, yeah. I couldn't do it. Like, I'm just not wired that way. The people that are able to go into those fires and do that stuff. President Bush cut 10. Another topic of concern is the devastation caused by the wildfires in Southern California. All of us across this nation are concerned for the families who have lost their homes and the many families who have been evacuated from their homes. We send our prayers and thoughts with those who have been affected and we send the help of the federal government as well. It's strange.
When Schwarzenegger talks, you get that tough Terminator thing. And when that president talks, it's like you get a whole different kind of... There you go. Oh, there he goes, President Bush. Thank you. I'll be here today. Here he is, President Bush. You're getting here today. I'm here, actually. Oh, you're already here. I'm right here. But you're doing your formal visit to Southern California tomorrow. Right. Well, yeah. But I'm here right now. To visit the Mikey show. Exclusive. Exclusively for you guys. Well, thank you. We feel so honored. President Bush. It's like, you know, I'm starring with Schwarzenegger in this one. You're not starring. Him and I. It's like, he can be Terminator, I'll be Predator.
We'll kick this fire's ass. President Bush, what have you learned from Katrina that will help you in this situation? Who's Katrina? Who's that chick? I'm saying Hurricane Katrina from New Orleans. Remember? I don't recall. The flooding, the devastation. One is water, one is fire. So what have you learned? That one is water? Wait, that's what you've learned? Glad I could help. We knew that. I'll be here tomorrow. Thank you, President Brady. Officially. Can't wait. I'll do some more studying. Thank you. And get back to you. That's our president, President Bush. President George W. Bush. This ought to be interesting. W stands for what's up. No, it does not. It does not. I actually heard it does. What's up? What's up? What's up? What's up? Remember that whole Budweiser thing? What's up? What's up? Can you stop? And then you do it back to me. What's up? What's up? You get it. I get it, man. That's a good one. That's still a good one. Eight years later. All right. That's enough. Eight years after it starts. It's all fun. And then President Bush. What's up?
I mean, we get it. We get it. So this ought to be interesting to hear. Jamie Lee Curtis, apparently, where was this guy? I don't know if she was accepting award or if she was presenting, but it was some female empowerment seminar or award ceremony type of deal. Now, everybody, well, I don't know that everybody knows this. I know it. Jamie Lee Curtis, she's big Libby. What's a Libby, Sky? Your word for somebody who has liberal politics. That is correct. Liberal views. So let's see what she had to say. Cut five. God, grant me serenity to accept things I cannot change. Courage to change things I can. And wisdom to know the difference. I appreciate the great work the Red Cross does. This is the cover of the Los Angeles Times. This is a... A conference of legacy. And ladies and gentlemen here in Southern California, this is our legacy. We live in a drought. We build houses too close to brush areas. And we're shocked when this happens. This is not an accident. This is not an act of God. This is an act of man. Now, when you open the Los Angeles Times today, and I understand we have terrible fires going on.
And you see that every single city says unhelpful for all people. How can we live up every day and get dressed in our cute clothes when we live in a place where there's actually something that says unhelpful for everyone? I am in shock. That was a turd move. What an opportunity, huh? These fires are not an act of God. They're an act of man. Well, listen. Jamie, I'm really, really, really stoked. And I'm all ears because we didn't know how these fires started. And apparently you have some sort of information we don't have. Like, tell us. Well, let's start with the witch fire, Jamie Lee. How did the witch fire start? Because you say it's an act of men. Like, first of all, who was it? And second of all, how did the witch fire start? Then the Harris fire. How did the Harris fire? Oh, you don't know what these are? Dumbhead? No. You don't know what the Harris fire is?
You don't know what the witch fire is? You don't know what the rice fire is? Because you don't live here? Jack hole? But you know that it's an act of man. So we're curious. We've been banting it around how these things started. But you know. And you also know that we're all morons, right? All us San Diegans are all morons because we choose to live in those houses. It's our fault. Jeez. It's our fault. That's one of the most unreal pieces of audio I've ever heard. Where do you live, Jamie Lee? I was thinking that exactly. Where do you live? You live on a boat? Yeah, exactly. And has this been something that she's been fighting for all these years and now it's her time to speak? It sounds like she jumped on this bandwagon of, hey, I'm going to get out in the public and kind of just make an ass of myself. Now she can say, I told you so to all of us. But I don't see her, like, this has been her cause for what, 20 years now, right? 20 seconds. It's seriously, it sounded like she was saving it up, you know? We, like, shame on you for living, for building a house in areas where things can burn. You know, Jamie, I don't really think people are bad for doing that. No, and if, like,
You know, and say if I was Jamie Lee, okay, and these were my thoughts and I was so passionate about it. You know what I would do? I would say this is a very sensitive time right now. When all these fires have calmed down, I'm going to take this up with the people in charge of building codes. I wouldn't even say that. Do that. If that's what you want to do, do it. But don't say, I wouldn't even say now's not the time, but later. Oh, no, no. I'm saying that's what I would think in my head. Oh, okay. I would know now is not the time to address this issue. If this is an issue that I'm passionate about, I'm not going to address it right now. You know, the state is in turmoil right now. But when this all settles down, I'm going to approach, you know, my senator or my mayor and talk about building codes. Yeah, dude. People in San Diego hearing that are like, are you out of your mind? That's brutal, man. Dude. That's horrible. Are you out of your cotton-picking mind? That is horrible. That's crazy. Go ahead, Ash. We've got a traffic update. Okay, cool.
Rick, you there? Yeah, I'm lucky. You got some new information on the roadways? Yeah, and some better news for us, too, as well. We've got word that the Southbound 5 now is open from Orange County, San Clemente, down into San Diego. Now, for a time, we've been reporting that both sides of the 5 was shut down completely because of the Camp Pendleton fires here from the 76 to Crescent Genitos. Once again, Southbound 5 now open. That's going to put some great relief for people coming out of Orange County right now. However... Trying to get out of San Diego, northbound 5, still can't do that. That's still closed at the 76th, though they are escorting people that work, I can say, San Onofre with the police escort up to the power plant up there. They've got a lot of fire equipment still sitting in the northbound lanes. They just want to get that out of the way first before they open up that 5 freeway. So hopefully I'll have some better news next time around that that will be open as well. In the meantime, though, northbound 5 still shut down. South 5 is open. The 15 still looking good in both directions. You've got the West Bernardo Drive off and on ramp still shut down, though. Off the 15 there. Northbound 67 closed at Scripps Poway Parkway. So they've opened that up a little bit farther north for you. That is still closed at the Ramona. Wildcat Canyon Road is good to go southbound. However, northbound still shut down. And the South Bay, you've got the 94 still closed out from Steel Canyon out to Forest Gate. I'm Rick Lawrence on Rock 105.3. Thank you, Rick. P1 Gaston, are you there? Yes. Go ahead. Hey, Mikey. We keep talking about air quality. Uh-huh.
And I'm working here in El Cajon at Granger, and we just received a whole bunch of dust masks, air respirators. Turns out a lot of stores are out, but we just received a huge shipment. I just wanted to put it out there. Hey, I appreciate it, man. Thank you. Where is that located? It's right behind the new Home Depot across the street from Parkway Plaza. In where? El Cajon. El Cajon. All right. Thank you, man. Appreciate it. Hey, and if anybody else is listening that works at a place where you got a shipment and you know of where we can get gas, or not gas masks, but these protective masks, let us know. It's great information to have. Let's see. This is San Diego Fire Battalion Chief Bruce Cartelli talking to CNN. Cut seven. Give us a sense in terms of the kinds of things that you're seeing as you drive around. Well, uttered. Devastation. Hundreds of homes that have been lost. Many hundred more that have been damaged. And it's probably the worst significant event in my career of 36 years. Eddie, a guy was on hold but dropped off. He wanted to know about San Diego State and the Aztecs.
and whether or not they're going to play their game this weekend. No, they got postponed. Obviously, there's just too much going on. Qualcomm right now is not acceptable to have games there with so many people displaced there. So they decided to postpone the game until December 1st against BYU. And the Chargers right now are still kind of in limbo. Not sure what we're going to do. I found out the deal with the stadium that Arizona Cardinals use. They're having some big motorcycle. event there on Sunday because it's a bye week for the Cardinals. And so I was kind of thinking, oh, well, why can't we play there while there's a motorcycle event there? And so one of the other options is going to be Arizona State University. Obviously, if the air quality gets better, they can maybe go to the Coliseum in L.A. or the Rose Bowl. So those are a couple options, but they're wondering about air quality and stuff like that still up in that area. I wonder when they're going to make a decision on it. It's got to be by tomorrow. It has to be by tomorrow. I don't know what they're going to do if they cancel the game because both of these teams have already had their bye weeks. So it's not like they can play during a bye week. And you have to have 16 games in an NFL season. So they're pretty much in dire straits right now. So they've got to figure this out. P1 Edgar. Yo, what's going on, guys? Go ahead, man. Just calling from Craig and Auto Parts. I heard you guys talking about if anybody need a dust mask.
Uh-huh. We got some shipments in last night coming in today, too. If anybody needs some, we're pretty much open throughout this whole event. Which Cragen do you work at? I work at the one in Spring Valley, actually, just down the street from the one that was over here by the Sweetwater Reservoir. Okay. Yeah. So we ran out, what was it, Monday? And we ordered a bunch. We should be getting some in today, probably. Mm-hmm. But pretty much every Cragen, like Lemon Grove over here, National City, South Bay and Chula Vista, they're all going to get a bunch of dust masks in. So if anybody needs some, they can come by and pick them up. Hey, thank you, man. I appreciate it. No problem. That's P1 Edgar. P1 Gunslinger is on the line. Go ahead, man. Hey, good morning. How are you? Good, man. Anyways, just let a lot of people who do construction know certain gated communities. It would be wise to call the guard shacks first to make sure you're allowed in. We just got up to Santa Luz. They said, nope, can't work here. Even though houses around that are non-gated, you're allowed back in there at your own discretion. Best thing is stay home from work, I guess. Yeah, for sure, man. Hey, thank you. I appreciate the call. Not a problem. Bye. Go ahead, Ash. We've got a new, the latest from Kogo update. Okay, cool. Under FM News update number two.
Good morning, I'm Delaina Bennett with AM600 COGO. Here's what's going on this morning. More than 500,000 people are out of their homes here in San Diego County. 400,000 acres have been burned. The fires have entered at least 21 firefighters, at least 24 other civilians. One person was killed by the flames and four other deaths are being listed as connected to the fires. Interstate 5 has been reopened in the area of two wildfires on Camp Pendleton in northern San Diego County. And at this time, mandatory evacuation orders are now in effect for 167 households in Birch Hill near Palomar Mountain. The homes are at risk from the Pumaca Fire. That's a 20,000-acre blaze on the La Jolla Indian Reservation. Residents are being advised to go to the Temecula Community Center on Rancho Vista Road in Temecula. Nearly 80,000 acres being burned in the Harris Fire. It's burning on the outskirts of Chula Vista and Bonita and remains only about 10% contained. Among the latest hot spots threatened are Del Zura, Deerhorn Valley, and Lions Valley. In fact, firefighters are now defending homes in Lions Valley. The Witch Creek Fire in North County, the biggest in the county at nearly 200,000 acres, remains out of control. It has also merged with the smaller Pumaca Fire.
which was sparked by a structure fire on the La Jolla Indian Reservation earlier yesterday. The so-called Rice Fire near Fallbrook has gobbled up about 4,500 acres along with about 200 homes, and that also remains out of control. Some good news, there are some residents being allowed back in in certain parts of the county, residents of Carmel Valley and Delmar Heights. Plus, in the South Bay, Otay Mesa residents are also being allowed back in. That voluntary evacuation order has been lifted. San Diego school officials say all classes and programs are canceled for the rest of the week. And some good news about the weather. The winds are expected to die down today. And the red flag warning that's in effect for the county should expire by 6 o'clock tonight. That's the latest for continuing coverage. Go to AM600 COGO. My name is Sky. My name is Michael. It's true. Hey, Eddie. Yes. Is Kobe Bryant going to stay with the Lakers? I don't know. It seems like there is. A lot of talk continuing about him being traded. Yeah. I mean, it's a difficult thing because in the NBA, you kind of have to match salaries when you make trades and stuff like that. And it's not going to be easy to trade him. Well, here's what Mark Cuban said. Cut 15. Where is Sean? Oh, is he? I just looked up and Sean's gone. I didn't even know he was gone. Where did he go? I don't know. I just looked up and he was gone. I went peepers. Well, Mark will be on the show on Friday.
Mark Cuban. And we can hear from him directly from the horse's mouth. Hey, last night was the 2007 Spike TV Scream Awards, which we were talking about because Paris Hilton got up on stage and got booed. Here's Quentin Tarantino accepting the award for most memorable mutilation clip. Shawnee, are you ready? Shawnee, can you hear me? Cut 21. They are the mutates. I am the mutilator. The audience, one question. Was that a car crash or was that a... He's very humble about it. Okay. Yeah, he's talking about a scene where these girls are in a car crash. It was a awesome car crash. I'll give him that. It was amazing. It was a pretty graphic car crash.
Is he talking about that specific car crash or his acting performance? I'm a fan of Tarantino. I think he makes really great movies, but they're very over the top. How did you like Kurt Russell in his car in the very last scene of the movie? When they yanked him out? Yeah, he's like, ah! The noises he was making were making me laugh so hard. It was hysterical. The best. How about that ending? I'm like, what the hell was that? It was crazy. Eddie and I were talking about it this morning, Sean. Did you hear? No. Because Eddie finally watched Death Proof. Oh!
And he liked it. He liked the same stuff that we discussed that he liked. And he disliked all the same stuff that we were talking about that we disliked. And I agreed with him about the stunt at the end on the car. It looked like you were watching a stunt. There's no doubt about it. It was just the coolest stunt I've ever seen. But there was no movie at that point. It was like, wow, this is a crazy stunt. I remember thinking to myself, And I think I said out loud to Rebecca, how did they do that? And if you watch the extras, Sean, I don't know if I told you. Did you watch the extras yet? No. They talk about this high-speed car chase and there's a girl on the hood of the car. Which I immediately kind of thought, too, of like, I'm surprised the studio let him do that for copycat stuff. What do you mean? You know, like if people tried to copycat that. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Because, I mean, talk about dangerous. Yes. And they easily could. Oh, yeah. I could easily see that happening. Nobody should ever attempt that stunt ever. No. Ever. Ever. You will die. You will die. Let me tell you what this girl does. Okay. And she's an extremely famous stunt woman. Her name is Zoe Bell, the woman that does this. They're like thrill-seeking women.
And so they do this thing called ship's mast where she gets on the – well, first of all, you have to be moving. The car has to be moving, like driving, okay? And the girl puts like a belt that goes around your waist. She has two belts. Okay. She puts one belt around her right wrist and it goes through the door through the – like you roll the window down and it goes through the door and then you close the door. Okay. Okay. Then she climbs out onto the hood of the car while the car's moving. Then her other arm goes around with a belt around the other window. So you're on driver and passenger. Okay. And then you scoot yourself down onto the hood and you're riding on the hood, you know, with your arms on the belts on the door. Does that make sense? And your feet are towards the front grill of the car? Yes. Okay. And the thrill of it is that you're driving real fast. and you're holding on to these belts. Actually, you're not hooked on to the belts. Yeah, she's just holding on. Sorry about that. You're just holding on to the belts. You're not attached to the belts. You're not attached to the belts. Because that would be safe. Yeah, that would be safe. Way too safe. What's the fun of that? You're just holding on to the belts on the hood, okay? Then you have Kurt Russell come up behind you and ram your car and try to drive you off the road, and you obviously...
Let go of the belts. And you're just on the hood of the car while the car is going screaming down the road and getting hit by the other car. And every time it does, you're like flopping around. My heart was racing so hard. And Tarantino says in the extras that the safety people said, you can't film this faster than 30 miles an hour. Okay. I'm thinking the thought is that we'll film it at 30 and then we'll speed it up so it looks faster, okay? So 30 miles an hour. Cut. Zoe, was that cool? Yeah, it was cool. You think you could do it at 40? I think so. All right, let's do it at 40. Cut. Hey, Zoe, what do you think about 60? Can you handle 60? Oh, my gosh. Okay. Film it at 60. Cut. Zoe, let's do it at 80 miles an hour. Oh no, wait. No. And then you film it at 80 miles an hour. Come on. In the hood of that car getting banged by another car. And dude, you see her fly, like she'll fly and grab onto the hood to just kind of like hold on. There's one scene where she, there's one scene where she gets, where the car gets hit and she spins all the way around and now she's facing forward.
Now her hands are on the front of the car looking forward. Like I literally was coming out of my seat. I can't remember watching a movie getting like my heart beating that fast. That Tarantino man. I wonder if he could have been in trouble. Are you kidding? I thought that too. Because they have insurance and I'm sure they have those safety guys making their recommendation based on the insurance. And if the safety guy said no more than whatever, 35 miles an hour, and they end up doing it at 80. Mm-hmm. I don't know if the insurance would cover that. Dude, it was crazy. And that scene goes on and on. It's 12 minutes. Is it really? No way. 12 minutes. Oh, my God. My. I don't think I could watch that. I think I would be too much anxiety, you know? It really has you going. It really has you going. The movie is hysterical, and it's all kinds of stuff. Boston Rob, you might be interested in hearing this. Oh. Here is what Rudolph Giuliani had to say. Rudolph Giuliani, former mayor of New York City, had to say about the World Series. Cut 11. I got to tell you, I am. I am. I'm rooting for the Red Sox in the World Series. And OK. All right. I'm not saying that. I'm not saying that. I'm not saying that just because I'm here in.
In Massachusetts, if I'm in Colorado in the next week or two, you will see. I will have the courage to tell the people of Colorado the same thing, that I'm rooting for the Red Sox in the World Series. I used to do this in New York. I'd go to Queens. I'm a Yankee fan. There's all Mets fans in Queens. I'd say, I'm rooting for the Yankees. Now you can respect me. They didn't. But they did vote for me. I'm rooting for the Red Sox. I'm an American League fan. Weird, man. What? This guy is a... I would never root for the Raiders or the Broncos. Yankees hate the Red Sox. Red Sox hate the Yankees. That's it. There is no, I'm cheering for the Red Sox now. Yeah, there's an old saying that the Red Sox fans have, we root for the Red Sox and whoever's playing the Yankees. And that's the same. My cousin called me the other day after we won game seven. He's like, you know, I root for the Yankees and whoever plays the Red Sox. And for him to go to the Bronx and say that. How'd you get booed out of there? Oh, man. Can you imagine how the Yankee fans must have felt about him saying that? And, you know, and when people are looking for somebody to be a potential, you know, presidential candidate for their party, they don't want to see somebody who isn't 100% dedicated to something, you know? To me, I'm like, well, what else are you going to kind of be? Yeah, he goes to Massachusetts and says, oh, I'm going to cheer for the Red Sox. Right. Really? Yeah. Really? Yeah, you big Yankees fan. Okay. Loser.
Speaking of politics, Mitt Romney, the governor of Rob's fine state in Massachusetts. Yeah, Mitt. He got a couple of people confused during a recent speech, and it may have upset some people. Cut 28. I think that is a position which is not consistent with the facts. Actually, just look at what Barack Obama said just yesterday. Oops. Barack Obama calling on... radicals jihadists of all the different types to come together in iraq that is the the battlefield that's the central place he says come join us under one banner well it's first a suggestion that it's not going so well for al-qaeda and two it's a recognition that this is the center as the president has been saying this is the place where the global war against terror has its most central hot spot it is the front in the global war on terror right now and that Walking away from this would have extraordinary consequences. You almost called him Osama. Well, no. He was talking about Osama bin Laden. And he said, he goes, I mean Barack Obama. So he was talking about the audio tape released by Osama bin Laden. I completely got it wrong.
It is really bad. It's extremely bad. Way worse. So he was... Okay, now getting it. Let me hear it again. Okay. No, wait, wait, wait. Not the whole thing. Just the beginning. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, okay. I think that is a position which is not consistent with the facts. Actually, just look at what Barack Obama said just yesterday. Barack Obama calling on... radicals, jihadists of all different types that come together in Iraq. Damn you, Barack. That is the battlefield. That's the central place, he said. Thank you. Wow, I don't know if I'm going to vote for Barack Obama after that. How can you if the guy's living in a cave and he's trying to get jihadists? Yeah. Yeah, he's uniting them. He's trying to get them to rage a holy war. He just said it yesterday. Yeah. It's just in that tape. I thought the guy was a senator. No. Weird. Ashley? We've got the latest Kogo update. And it's called? FM News Primary. Good morning, I'm Delaina Bennett with AM600 COGO. Here's the latest on the wildfires burning in San Diego County. Interstate 5 has been reopened southbound.
Between 76 and Los Cristianitos Road near Camp Pendleton, there were two wildfires on Camp Pendleton that caused the closure of the five earlier this morning. The community of Duluth has been evacuated. Can't go northbound. You can get through there southbound at this point. More than 500,000 people are out of their homes. 400,000 acres burned. We have lost five people in the fires. Mandatory evacuations also going out this morning for 167 households in Birch. Hill near Palomar Mountain in the Pumaca Fire. A San Diego County spokeswoman says the homes are at risk from that fire. It's a 20,000 acre blaze on the La Jolla Indian Reservation. And you're advised to go to the Temecula Community Center on Rancho Vista Road in Temecula. In the Witch Fire, which has joined with the Pumaca Fire, more evacuations there. Evacuations ordered on the north side of Highway 76 in Bonzel, San Luis Rey Heights, and Winter Warm via reverse 911 calls. You're advised. to go west on Highway 76. Nearly 80,000 acres have burned in the Harris Fire in the South Bay. It is burning on the outskirts of Chula Vista and Bonita, and it remains about 10% contained. The latest spots threatened are Del Zura, Deerhorn Valley, and Lions Valley. County spokeswoman Leslie Kirk says firefighters are now defending homes in Lions County. Some good news in all of this being allowed back into their communities, residents of Carmel Valley and Delmar Heights and Otay Mesa residents.
are also being allowed back into their homes. Damage across the county from these firestorms now reaching $500 million. San Diego school officials say all classes and programs are going to be canceled for the rest of the week. Federal courts are closed today and state courts are closed until Monday. Weather conditions expected to improve for firefighters today. The red flag warning should expire tonight by 6 o'clock. That's the latest for continuing coverage. Tune to AM600 COGO. I'm Delaina Bennett. There it is. So that's what they know so far. Man, I'll tell you what. You look at the size of the county on a map, and especially when they give you the little scale of how many miles the county is. It's so huge. And so the scale of what's going on right now, it's unbelievable. And I was saying to my brother the other day, my brother says to me, he goes, hey, I heard that the first day was Sunday, right? And I said, yeah. And he goes, how many fires? I said, there was about three or four. And he goes, well, how did they all start at once? And I go, yeah. It was just the perfect conditions is what happened. So it was just a coincidence that four, just boom, they just... Kind of. Well, I mean, you know, there was the Transformer, the blue, and a couple... They say that's more than meets the eye. Exactly. Exactly. You know, obviously Megatron was behind it.
But the conditions were so bad with the Santa Anas, the dryness, the humidity level. Everything was perfect for these fires to start. Yeah, and they were even warning in the days prior about the Santa Anas coming in and how bad the Santa Anas were going to be and what could normally be a brush fire that the fire department puts out in like 15 minutes to an hour turns into this because of those winds. Crush It is on the line. Crush It from upstairs, manager from upstairs, good friend of all of ours. Hey, man, how you doing? I'm doing good. How you guys doing? Everyone okay? We're hanging in there. Okay, first of all, if you don't want me to say what area you live in, I won't. But do you know how your house is since we talked? Yeah, it's all good. We're up in the Rancho Santa Fe area.
And we kind of stupidly. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Before you say it, I want you to start. Tell the story just like you told me starting from them evacuating you. Well, you know, just like everyone, we got the reverse 911 calls. We saw smoke and smelled smoke, you know, heavily Sunday. And I just had a horrible feeling. I mean, the smoke was just so heavy, you know. reverse 911 call, and we got out. We're lucky enough, the day of getting out of the ranch, and we got held up here. So walk us up to that point where you guys made that decision. Well, I mean, just like everyone, we're listening to... So what did you see when you got there? Behind us, we'll get our neighbor's house wet next to us. Call hadn't gone, I'll say it. If the call hadn't gone, if you hadn't had that...
Hey, listen, I'm not suggesting doing what he did. No. All I'm saying is... No one do what he did. No two ways about it. I'm just saying this is a friend of ours. It's his story. It's what happened. If they hadn't gone there and they hadn't called 911, first of all, his house would be gone. But so would... Listen, I know that you're not supposed to. They tell you you're not supposed to. I know what it's like to be... a homeowner, and I probably would have done the same thing. That house is memories, man. It's not worth anybody's lives, not worth the firefighters' lives, not worth our lives, whatever. But I think we can all relate to just loving our home, loving the memories, loving all the stuff. And I'm glad it worked out the way it did, man. I'm glad you've still got a home and that your neighbors have a home. Yeah, me too. I mean, you hit it right. It's just a house.
just stuff it's really the memories uh that's where i proposed to my wife it's where i got married uh it's uh it's it's home you know it's it's children comfortable with you know to um that you know and the uncertainty that that's that's what is uh decided and uh our kids uh wesley and uh we uh we just got in there and uh we got lucky mike we're one of the uh the lucky ones. Hey, are you coming in today or are you out? I don't know. We're still evacuated. Candidly, we went back just to check to the back door. You would never think. Geraniums anyway. You don't have to worry about them anymore. No, no. If you make it into the station, stop by and say hi to us. But I'm glad you're safe and I'm glad your home's safe and I'm glad your family's safe, bro. Everyone's rooting for reaching out to each other. Man, I'll see you. If you come in,
Later, stop by, and I'll see you soon, man. Absolutely. Thanks, dude. That's our friend Crush It from upstairs. Whoa. Dude, yeah, he was telling me the story yesterday, and it's kind of chilling and just, it's crazy. Same thing with Rebecca and I. Like, we came to this place where we were like, if our house burns down, then, yeah, it's just stuff, you know? It's just stuff. The thing that... that i was really like got this new appreciation for was not the home itself in terms of like in terms of like the materialistic part of it it became a deal of like these are the walls that like protect us like these are the walls we get to live in this is like the place where our bed and that pillow that i like that i'm used to that's what it became about like that it was our form of shelter yeah
And, you know, the moral of that story, you know, and you could hear the emotion in Crushed's voice, is the amazing work that these firemen are doing. You know, I mean, you can't say enough. There are no words to express what they're doing and how brave they are and the amount of things that they have saved. I mean, you look at and hear about all the devastation, but you can't imagine if these guys weren't doing what they were doing, what would be, you know, there would be no San Diego. It's an amazing thought, and it's one that I think makes us all emotional. B-Dub is on the line, and we're going to talk to B-Dub here in just a second because the fire got very close to him. K-N-S-D, Local 739.
Mari Payton, the reporter for Channel 739, is getting some national FaceTime this morning on the Today Show. Mari Payton from our San Diego affiliate KNSD is near Camp Pendleton this morning. Mari, good morning to you. And just for people who aren't familiar with the area, set the scene for me. You're just north of San Diego, right? That's right, Matt. Good morning. We're just a couple miles actually north near the Camp Pendleton area, a military base just north of San Diego. Now, actually, a fire is still burning off in the distance. Take a look. It's been burning for several hours here. In fact, they just reopened this part of the freeway. It was closed for several hours because the flames actually jumped the freeway. That's how powerful these flames are. They crossed eight lanes and almost burned all the way to the coast. Now, this is just one of several fires burning in the Camp Pendleton area. At this time, firefighters say they do not have control of the situation just yet. But the good news is that at this time, no homes or structures are being threatened and no mandatory evacuations in the Camp Pendleton area. Matt? Hey, Mari, I'm just curious. Things like schools and businesses, are they open despite the fires? Is life somewhat normal for a lot of pockets of San Diego? You know, most schools are still closed. They'll be closed for the rest of the week.
And actually, you know, things like this, like freeway closures, this is a main thoroughfare. This freeway goes all the way from Mexico. It's pretty much the only way out from San Diego all the way through to Orange County in Los Angeles. So when they did shut down this portion of the freeway for hours, it really caused a traffic collision. People couldn't go to work. People couldn't really get anywhere in or out of San Diego. So it's good news that it just reopened within the last hour. And Mari, any idea how this is impacting life on that marine base? You know, we haven't received much word, actually, from inside the base. But, of course, like I mentioned, you know, thousands of people live on the base, but there have been no mandatory evacuations yet. If you want to leave, of course, you can. But, again, it is safe. That's what they're telling us at this point. And noticing the traffic is light behind you at this particular stage because you said they've just reopened Highway 5. Mari Payton of KNSD. Mari, thanks for your report this morning. I appreciate it. No problem, Matt. I love the delay. I know. Yeah. That's so bad. You know what? Yes, I... Sorry, I didn't mean to... Eddie, can I ask you a question? Yeah, go ahead. I'm sorry? Yeah, I can hear you. It's a delay. Don't worry about it. It is the delay. I'm sorry. Eddie, let me ask you, how are things where you are? Things are pretty dangerous here, Mikey. I mean, pretty much anywhere you look, there's a... Go ahead.
As I was saying, how are businesses reacting? Basically, Mikey, the situation here is there is a dangerous for people to be going into work at any kind of... Favorite color. I think you were trying to speak when I was trying to speak, but basically the situation here, Mike, is that businesses, for the most part, are shut down, and the mayor has basically told us all that we should stay at... It's blue. I don't know why you're... I love those delays. The delays are the greatest thing about TV. The further away you get, the better it is. When it's the other part of the world, it's the worst. Forget it. All the technology at our disposal. And it's hard for Matt and Marty Payton to have a conversation from New York to San Diego. P1 Marty Payton, by the way. She's a big listener of the mic. She loves the show. B-Dub. B-Dub, are you there? Yeah.
I'm here, guys. What's going on? So, hey, man, where are you right now? Have you been evacuated, and how close did the fire get to you? Tell everybody where you live. I'm actually right now in the city of Corona. My wife's aunt and uncle live up in this area, and over the last couple days, we were evacuated twice from not only our house early Sunday morning, but we went to my brother-in-law's house in Valley Center, right by the Woods Valley Ranch Golf Course. good shape all Monday and Monday night and uh Friday morning um the smoke started getting too bad and they started giving evacuations for all the Valley Center so we got out of Dodge and rather than going south um with all the traffic problems um we knew that uh um and uncle was up in this area so we decided just to go north and try to get away with it get away from everything and try to get a little bit of fresh air but even up here um you know they don't have San Diego TV on 24-7 you're
So, do you know the status of your house? Right. Wow. It's crazy, you know. I didn't get to hear Crush It's, you know, conversation, but real, to kind of put everything into perspective, my brother-in-law gave us a call about 5.15 early Monday morning, and my wife went into, wow, oh, my God, we need to move. And I think I was trying to be a little bit more logical, having just woken up and not knowing where I was or anything, and saying, hey, let's just figure this out. And you kind of go look outside our door. You know, we live right off of Del Dios, right where Vio Rancho. in Del Dios is a community called Summer Creek. And actually, by Mike O'Brien, it's my neighbor, the PD and afternoon host of KUSS. And, you know, looking out and seeing all the smoke and going, wow, that's a lot closer than it was, you know, the day before. And then next thing you know, like going, okay, I sent my wife and my son out, and I'm going to stick around a little bit and kind of just get some more stuff around the house. And you're kind of going around doing that mental checklist of just a thousand times, if there's a fire, what are you going to take? And you start just like...
What the hell is going to happen if there really is a fire? And I'm never going to be able to come back in this house. And it's, you know, guys, I'm so lucky because my family's healthy. My brother and sister-in-law, they've been evacuated. We don't know what the status of their house is in Valley Woods. My mother and my father-in-law, they ended up joining up as well yesterday. Or actually, I should say, I guess it was Monday afternoon. They were in Fairbanks Ranch. They lived very close to Crush It, and they were evacuated. And my family, my parents and my sister and my brother-in-law, they went over there because they live up in Scripps Ranch. They got evacuated. And my folks were right on the border of Sorrento Valley and Mira Mesa. And they were kind of ready to go in a moment. I don't know if I don't, you know, I know, Mike, you were evacuated. I don't really know if I don't know anyone that wasn't affected by this fire. Well, you know, especially now, because CNN is now reporting that the number of evacuees.
has risen to just short of 1 million people. 950,000 people have been evacuated throughout San Diego County. I've never heard of anything like that in my life. Never in my life. And I've said this before, in terms of natural disasters, this is the... To me, the worst because I've lived through the earthquake, the Loma Prieta earthquake in 89. And what happens is with an earthquake, it's 30 seconds of a terrible incident followed by tons of destruction left behind. The hurricane in New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina, it's an event that moves through in a matter of hours and leaves behind destruction. This fire is terrible because it takes days and days and days. It's like an event that just keeps happening. It's continuous destruction. And then leaves behind destruction. So it's really tough, man. 950,000 people is a lot of people. That's a ton of people. And so this is one of those deals where, like I said to Rebecca, my wife, when my son, who is a year old,
is, you know, going into college, this is going to be one of those life events, you know, that people will still be talking about. Yeah. The wildfires of 07. So, yeah, man, this is a, in scope, it's enormous. And I can't wait for this to be behind us. Oh, I can't wait for it to be done. Here's the thing for me, guys, it's, you know, as I've been sitting here with my family, we've been on the, you know, on the laptop, and I didn't really go to sleep much from Monday to Tuesday, I finally was able to get a little bit of peace and quiet last night just because I knew I was away from everything. You know, like, us having lived through it and had to be evacuated from our house, and it's been a couple days now of living, you know, sleeping on the floor and, you know, staying with relatives and kind of just kind of piecing your life together, what you have as of right now, and accepting that if your house is gone, that's okay. You have your family and you start over from scratch. People now that are experiencing it every day, you know, reading about more evacuations, that, hey, they've seen other people have to go to this for a couple times, and you know their hearts go out to them, and all of a sudden... Oh, no, we have to evacuate. When is this going to stop? And it's just so sad to see everyone go through this. The best part about it, if there's any, you know, shining light, you see how resilient the city is right now in terms of people rallying together. I mean, seeing what's going on at Qualcomm Stadium, that's so amazing. And, I mean, just being from San Diego, I'm so proud right now of this town and how people are rallying around one another. And I told my wife, I'm like, if our house is standing, I can't wait to go back to the firehouse and drop by there and just...
shake all those guys' hands because friends update me and neighbor has a big SUV, so he went up the back roads kind of where we live and kind of checking it out. And he sent me a text yesterday saying, you know, we were in good shape. And then yesterday afternoon about, you know, 12 o'clock, he's like, doesn't look good, dude. 30, 40-foot flames, you know, right on Del Dios. And then you see in a reading all last night about their stand on Del Dios, where basically hold Grant, hold the camp here, or it's going to affect all these other houses that are going to be going east towards the 15. And that's a ton of houses right there. And for them to go and be able to do that, it's just... B-Dub, there's a guy on the line. P1 John, are you there? Yeah. John, go ahead. B-Dub, my brother-in-law got evacuated, and he lives in the exact same area as you, and I've been driving over there to check the area, and I can tell you that your whole neighborhood is fine. You can get in there from the backside, and it's fine. Like, I didn't see any houses burning. The flames did get really close, though. Like, I saw them over there, you know, by Lake Hodges, and they're big, and, you know, there's stuff that's burned. But your neighborhood is good. That's got to be good news, man. Wow, that's great news. I tell you, it's just... Thank you, John. Yeah, thank you very much. I mean, that's like, you know, it's as good news as you could possibly get. Now, you know, you kind of see, oh, well, now the air is going to start coming back offshore, and it might blow the other way.
You know, my wife's very much, well, let's wait and see what everything, you know, how everything pans out before we go and worry about getting back into our place. And I'm all on board for that. But, you know, even the way it was handled from, you know, our management and Bob Bollinger sending out emails saying, hey, family first, comforting knowing that our lives rather than some other things. Because I'm sure you guys have got emails from people, too, outside of San Diego County or even California where people are like, hey, receive. I'm like, I'm not in my house right now. And then they go, oh, is it that bad? Yeah. And it's so, I mean, it's like. You feel offended at first, but then you go, I guess they don't know it until they see it, until they see Matt Lauer, until they see... Al Roker. Al Roker, yeah. The big dude. We all knew who he was. You know, Fatty Boobaladdy. Oh, Al Roker. He's slimmed down. He looks great. You know, chocolate teddy bear. There you go. You can't hide that. There you go. All right, bro. All right, thanks, B-Dub. I'm glad you're okay, buddy. Hey, dude, and thank you for that last bit of humor. It's the first time Skye's laughed and...
It has been a while. Yeah, this is actually the first time I've laughed. Can you not? I don't know, in the past couple days. Come on. There you go. Thank you, B-Dub. B-Dub, you'll be happy to know some things never change. Thank you, B-Dub. No problem. Thank you, guys. We'll see you. Can you guys not? Yeah, this is actually the first time I've laughed, like, I don't know, in the past couple days. I keep thinking, you know, after tragedies. They always put together those montage songs. Yes. And that clip right there. I mean, that's got to be one of them. Yeah, this is actually the first time I've laughed, like, I don't know, in the past couple days. Crochetto. Post. Flounder gets work on it. I got it. Wait a minute. I got it. Let me see. What song will it be? You know what you're doing. What are we doing? You know what you're doing right now. What? It's not cool. Nothing's going on. Oh, here it is. Come on, you guys. And then you have the clip of Skye in there. Yeah, this is actually the first time I've laughed, like, I don't know, in the past couple days. That's crazy. I'll tell you what, it just made you think family is really what's important. And you ask me what I want. It's coming. You're proud of yourself? Yeah. Oh, okay, okay. You might as well get used to it. Please. All the news clips are going to be in there. And Skye's clip.
That's right. They're going to be, like, Candice, all the TV stations are calling. They're like, hey, can we get the clip of the girl saying that lady? Yeah, the lady that says that she hasn't laughed in a few days or something like that. Yeah, this is actually the first time I've laughed, like, I don't know, in the past couple days. We're like, sorry, guys, we can't let that clip go. I mean, it's just, I mean, it was gold when it happened. It's still gold. We can't let it go. Dicks. Ash? Well, Rick Lawrence would like to do a little traffic with us. Thank you, Rick. Thank you. Yeah, sure, no problem. Rick, go ahead. You know, I'm just looking for some good news to tell you guys. And, of course, I think the last time I reported, the southbound 5 is open now. So that's good for commuters out of Oceanside all the way down into San Diego County. For a time this morning, though, both sides of the 5 completely shut down here. Now, if you're heading northbound, unfortunately, they're going to turn you off at the 76 here, still coming out of San Diego. If you happen to work at the power plant, though, at San Onofre, you get a nice little police escort up to the power plant. They'll get you up that direction. fire equipment out of those northbound lanes that they needed to use to fight the fire. Until that happens, that northbound will still be shut down. Your only other option still is to take that 78 east across to the 15 and then head north from there. Actually, the 15 is looking great in both directions. However, the West Bernardo Drive off ramps from south and north 15, those are still closed.
Northbound is 67. You can get as far as Scripps Poway Parkway. That's where it's shut down here. And that goes closed all the way up to Ramona. Wildcat Canyon Road, you're good to go southbound down into San Diego. But northbound, that is still shut down as well from Willows up to around San Vicinia, I believe. And then you've got the 94, which is closed still. It's been, has been for the last few days. From Steel Canyon, all the way out just past, just east of Harris Ranch. All the traffic within the city, if you need to evacuate somewhere, all the freeways looking real nice, up to speed. Roads to them are also up to speed and problem-free for you. I'm Rick Lawrence, and Rock 1053. Yeah, this is actually the first time I've laughed, like, I don't know, in the past couple days. This guy just got so irritated. As Rick was giving that traffic report, Flounder comes in, he goes, give me that clip. I'll make you guys something. Oh, no. Not necessary right now. Are there other things going on, Flounder? Are there other important things happening right now? He's trying to lift the spirits of San Diego. That's right. Don't you understand that? Yeah. What if there are other people that haven't cracked a smile in a couple of days? Oh, good point. Well, I made that comment after getting calls from people saying that. Well, what was, you know, the thing that stood out to me about when the clip originally happened,
Your dicks. What? Calm down. No, it was just really kind of drove it home is I guess what I'm saying. Definitely. Really drove it home. Shut up. Without question. Shut up. What is this? What is this guy? Your boy Mike Aguirre at it again. Oh, no. Citing danger. Okay, the headline is Aguirre wants San Diego evacuated in wake of wildfires. Citing dangerous weather conditions and poor air quality, San Diego City Attorney Mike Aguirre this week advocated a voluntary evacuation of the nation's eighth largest city. He wants the whole city to evacuate? What the hell is he talking about? That wouldn't cause any problems on the freeways, right?
If the entire city were to evacuate? Yeah, and there wouldn't be looting issues if the whole city evacuated. In separate interviews with the San Diego Union Tribune yesterday, the police chief, fire chief, and mayor's office said Aguirre urged them to consider such an exodus after the wildfires began Sunday. A spokesman for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said the administration also was aware of the request. Everybody agreed it was a bad idea. Face it, Gary. Well, that's the most idiotic thing I've ever heard. Well, you know how when he has like an idea how passionate he gets about it and how he screams it from the rooftops, you know, calling the governor's office and evacuate the whole city? My goodness. I'm in Mission Valley. I'm, you know, in a very safe area. I have to leave? Yes. But I'm fine. I'm by the beach. I mean, if anything, I can jump in the ocean. I mean, the ocean's right there. All of you and your whole neighborhood, get out. Like head to Bakersfield or something. Just go to Bakersfield. All righty. All however many million of you, get out.
Like, that wouldn't totally shut down our economy worse than it already has been affected. Cal Fire Captain Matt Streck said it would be unprecedented for the state to try to vacate a city of more than a million people. He said it would be up to health officials to decide if the crisis was serious enough to warrant such a response. But Mike Aguirre said so. No, Mike Aguirre says, no, no, no, I... I'm making... No. The city attorney. Doesn't he make all the decisions? No. Right, doesn't he? He's just the attorney. He should handle law stuff. Has any city attorney in the history of city attorneys ever made this much noise? Mind your own beeswax, Gary. I mean, seriously, like, I've never heard... Like, we... When we say Mike Aguirre, everyone knows who we're talking about. It shouldn't be that way. Is it like that in Phoenix? Do they know who they're? If we called the average citizen in Phoenix and we go, who's your city attorney? They're like, what's a city attorney? You call anybody in San Diego. Mike Aguirre. He's a guy that he's always yelling about everything at the top of his lungs. Oh, boy. That's unbelievable. Guys holding press conferences.
Yeah, Aguirre wants the city of San Diego to evacuate. Unbelievable. Yeah, classic. Sky handed me that. I'm like, no, come on. You're like, I have to be reading this headline wrong. Come on. That's not loud. That can't be right. Let's see. Glenn went back to her show. Oh, thank God. Thank goodness. Well, things are getting back to normal then. Is she okay? Has anyone found Dick Van Dyke? Oh, that's a... Well, I heard they found his car. but they haven't seen him. Oh, don't say that. No, that's what we were. You're going to cause a panic. No. Sky has a list of the manliest celebrity men of the year. So I got the top five. The manliest men? Yeah, and just as an example, not on the list this year, but number one on the list last year was George Clooney. Let's just give you an idea of what... Matthew McConaughey. Can you learn how to say his name? Already? I'm all said.
She's never said it. Can she get the name right? She's never said it right once. Is Matthew McConaughey on that list? No McConaughey on that list. What about McConaughey? No, he's not on the list either. Who's that? Neil Sedaka. Is Neil Sedaka all of Peter, Paul, and Mary? Oh, nice. Neither of them are on the list. The unknown comic. I'll tell you. Gene Gene the Dancing Machine. Yes! What about Carrot Top with all the steroids? He's like the manliest guy on the planet. I don't think he's a real manly. Yeah, I don't know what he is. I think he's alien. Doesn't count. Not man or woman. Paul Stanley? Oh. Kid Rock. Williams sisters. Yeah, what about the Williams brothers?
Russell Crowe, Will Smith. Tom Brady, dude. Ah, yeah. Tom Brady. Google pictures. Google images. Tom Brady cowboy. Don't do that. Don't do that. How about Logan Mankins? And then send him to Rob. Such an idiot. Big Pappy. Secure offensive lineman from the Patriots. Brett Favre. No. Musicians, basic actors. What about Stephen Neal? We have musicians. Larry Izzo. We have athletes. Randall Gay. And we have an actor. What did you say? We have musicians. Melissa Etheridge. Actors and athletes on the list. Melissa Gilbert. Yes. David Beckenhall. Really? Really? Come on. Want to try that again? I see a pattern. That's just stupid. Victoria Beck. Victoria Beckenhall. What did I say? You said Beckenhall.
Right. Just doing a bit. Yep. And Victoria's last name is... But the cool thing about the bit is we can't tell. Beckham, Beckham, Beckham. Right. I really wasn't, but that's fine. You fooled us. David Beckham. David Beckham with his dark, deep manly voice. Yes, David Beckham is on the list. Is this the first time I've been on the list? Harry Potter. Well, David, you are number one on the list of the manliest men. Yeah, in your face, all of you. doing a bit. I'm very manly. You're so... Yes, you are very manly. I am. Stupid. The voice is a little low. You are. Please. Stupider. All right, I'm very manly. There you go. Who's number two? You want me to tell you? Will Smith. Should we keep guessing? I already said Will Smith. Tom Selleck. Dude, that must have... The Hoff. Johnny Depp. Oh, yes, the Hoff. Can I give a hint? No, no, no. Jump in my car. What about 1970s Burt Reynolds? Randy Moss, Peyton Manning. What about... Jump in my car. Yeah! Come on. Morris. Justin Timberlake. Hell yeah. Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris is number one. Yes, Ashley. Justin Timberlake is number five. What? The Dos Equis most interesting guy in the world. What about the Dos Equis? Justin Timberlake. Timberlake, number five.
This was what list? Manly men? Manliest men of the year. You said Justin Timberlake? Justin Timberlake's not a manly man. He's not a manly man. Beckenhall's number one. Tom Arnold. Lance Bass. Lenny and Squiggy. Tracy Morgan. Jake Gyllenhaal. Jake Gyllenhaal? He's a homosexual. Wait a second. You mentioned Lance Bass. Only in the movie. Only in the movie. No, I heard it in real life. Just because you're homosexual doesn't mean you can't be manly. Yeah, you could be a manly man. Look at Rock Hudson in Heath Ledger. The Rock. The Rock. Oh, Rob's a good example. What? Leonard Kosnowski. Yes. How dare you. Joey Fatone. That was uncalled for, Sean. What about Sakai? Oh, yeah. George Sakai. You're breaking all the stereotypes, Sakai. I was on the list of the manliest men. What are some of the manly things that you do on a daily basis, George Takai? Work on my abs. How are they looking? Like a washboard. Nice. What do you do with your abs? I rub them against other guys' biceps. Why? Very manly. Why? Gross.
Because I'm gay. I'm sorry, George. I apologize. Well, what a stupid question. It was a stupid question. In hindsight, it was a stupid question. A little insulting. I apologize. I was a... No. Hey, I was a... George. Takai. George. I was at a rave last night. Really? Wow. Here in San Diego? I wouldn't think a rave would be going on. Is that appropriate? It was in Tecate. Oh, okay. Is that so? Yes, I got wasted on Red Bull and Skull Bandits. Oh, great. Okay. Have you ever had that, Eddie? No. Red Bull and Skull Bandits? I've never had that in my life. Nor would I want to have that. That is ridiculous. What you do is you take a dip.
I don't care. You're disgusting. And then you drink a shot of Red Bull. Are you just making that up? No. I'll tell you what. That'll wake you up and get you horny. Okay. George Takai. Shulu from Star Trek. We don't need that garbage. We're not trying to get horny right now, George Takai. How do you like my knee-high leather boots? I don't like them. And I don't want to talk about them, to be honest with you. Yeah, and they're not very manly. I'm just going to tell you. I think they're manly. And your cut-off shorts are not sexy either. No. They're Jordache. You didn't even change me. You only changed my mind. Didn't know that. No, doesn't matter. Jordache. How do you like my candy bracelet? Can I have a bite? Sure. Is it lace? We don't need any of that here. We're trying to work here, George Takai. Yes. The first one, let me tell you about it. Okay. This one here, the red one is a roofie. Okay. Hey. That's the one you were offering to Eddie. Takai? You trying to roofie me? The second one is acid. Oh, watch out for that one. Hey, Sulu. This third one that looks like a rock, that's...
Heroin. Okay. That's enough. We're done with you. Out of control. Stop. Wow. There you go, guys. What are you doing? What do you got over there, Takai? How do you like my roller skates? Oh, you just said you have... Those are roller skating thigh-high boots? Yes, they are. I didn't know they made those. Fantastic. Bro? I didn't know they made those. Yeah, my boots are also roller skates. These boots were made for rolling. Can you shoot the duck in those boots? You bet your hot little tail. This is weird. I'd like to see that. How you like my rainbow suspicions? Those I do like. Connected to your cut off shorts. You know, as a displaced Filipino. First of all, you're not displaced. Second of all, you're not Filipino. You're Japanese. How many times? How many times? How you like the tube top.
Tube top. What is that? Your button says, we'll make out for food. That's not appropriate at this time. But I will. But see, you have money. You don't need it. I mean, you can buy your own food. You're trying to act like you're one of the... Hey, dummy, I don't really want food. Okay. Well, then why are you going to make out? This is all about the food, right? The other one says, Frankie says relax. Kind of outdated, but maybe it's coming back. I've had it for many, many years. But you've hit it. You've hit that button, haven't you? Until a few years ago. That's right. But you all remember the tune. Relax, don't do it. When you want to get too rich. We remember. We played that one four times last night in Tecate. Yeah. Why four times? Because they couldn't fit a fifth. Oh, my God. Eventually, the party had to end, bro. Okay. That's because the sun was coming up. The sun was coming up. They would have played Frankie Goes to Hollywood five times. So have you been to sleep yet, George Takai? Not in four days, man. I need to relax. Oh, no. That's terrible. I've been smoking methamphetamine. Don't say that. You can't say that. I'm just kidding. Don't say things like that.
I'm just kidding. I shot it. Hey, George Takai. Enough. We're kidding around. We're on the air, man. Actually, on the air. I thought we were in a commercial room. No, we're live. We were talking about the manliest men. Just levity jeepers. There was George Takai. Okay, so manliest men. Has anyone seen a lighter? No. You don't need that. You don't need that. Escort him out, Seth. So, George Takai's not on the list. What about William Shatner? Yeah, what about him? No, he's not. Who's manly? Who's in the news? Brad Pitt. No. Walter Koenig. Yes. Okay. Time for first with David Beckham. Beckinsale. What? Beck and... What did she call him? Beck and Ham. I said David Beck and Hale because I got confused with Jake Gyllenhaal. Now it's Beck and Hale. I confused Jake Gyllenhaal with Beck and... Beck Ham. You're making it worse. Oh. Wow. I like Ham. The caveman from ABC. Oh. Which one? They're all their own people, you know. I thought they were all just the same thing. No. They all look the same. No, they don't. They do. Stedman.
Yes, he's got to be out there. Stedman's not at least so manly. Prince. Nick Van Patten. Can I give you hints yet? Wink Martindale. How about some hints? Dr. Keith Elbow. How about some hints? Big Poppy. Yeah. Kevin Euclid. No, eucalyptus is not on the list. Red Buttons. Red Skelton. Gene Hackman. Red Fox. Sky. Red Leader. You got to tell us yes or no, or we won't even know. Yeah, Gene Rayburn. He's got to be on it. No. Can I give a hint? Yes, please give me a hint. Please. Everhead. Super Producer. Sully. Yes! That joke went to the Bay Area. Thank you. All of those of you listening on the internet, I'm sure you enjoyed that. Sully McCommie. Oh, wow. He has a last name. Wow. Super producer. Mark Burnett? Ashley? Producer. That hint means nothing to you. Timbaland? Yes, Timbaland. Timbaland? Oh, come on. Oh, it's not Phil Spector?
Okay. Tennis. How about his hair? Wait, wait, wait. Let's keep guessing in a minute. Do we have a new report? Do we have a new update? Yes, we do. What's it called? It's FM News Update number two. Got it. Good morning, I'm Delaina Bennett with AM600 COGO. Here's what's going on. More than a half million people now displaced, evacuated from their homes this morning as firefighters work to get a handle on all the major wildfires still burning. About 10,000 people spent the night at Qualcomm Stadium last night. And San Diego County says the property damage from this week's wildfires has reached $1 billion countywide. At this point, all southbound lanes of Interstate 5 are now open at Camp Pendleton. Northbound lanes still close between State Route 76 and Christianitos Road in San Clemente. That's because a fire started early this morning at Camp Pendleton. The Luz in that area has been evacuated near the base. As of 7 a.m. this morning, the Otay Mesa voluntary evacuation has been lifted. If you live in Otay Mesa, you can return to your home.
Also, Delmar Heights and Carmel Valley residents are being allowed back in. This also encompasses the following area just south of the city limits, west of Rancho Santa Fe Farms, east of Interstate 5, and north of Highway 56. In the Witch Fire, about 200,000 acres have been burned in northern San Diego County from Witch Creek to Rancho Santa Fe. It's only 1% contained, and we have lost 500 homes in that area, 100 businesses, and 50 out buildings are destroyed. In the Harris Fire, 72,000 acres burning 70 miles southeast of San Diego near Tecate. 10% contained at this point, and one civilian was killed in that fire. In Fallbrook this morning, more evacuations ordered on the north side of Highway 76. Julian, Bonzel, San Luis Ray Heights, and Winter Warm are all being evacuated. County emergency operation officials advising evacuees to go west on Highway 76. Pumaca Fire. Mandatory evacuation orders are now in effect for 167 households in Birch Hill near Palomar Mountain. A San Diego County spokeswoman says the homes are at risk from the Pumaca Fire. That is now a 20,000 acre blaze on the La Jolla Indian Reservation and residents are being advised to go to the Temecula Community Center.
With all the ash in the air, if you do have respiratory conditions, you should avoid going outside if at all possible. San Diego school officials say all classes and programs are canceled for the rest of the week. Federal courts close today and state courts are going to be closed until Monday. And good news, weather conditions expected to improve for the firefighters. The red flag warning should expire by 6 o'clock tonight. I'm Delaina Bennett. Get the latest and continuous coverage on AM600 COGO. Well, there's the latest. Don't forget, we're running commercial free. And we're going to be doing that until 10. And then we're going to start with normal programming again. And Missy will make her return to the airwaves. Yes, Rob. No. No on the second part. Yes on the first part. Rob wanted to bum a Diet Coke. I said you have to ask. Oh, but he does. He's being polite. Nice of him.
Should I ask? I've never done that. Never in my life. Never would have occurred to me. Yeah, what is it, dude? I didn't even know. Like, what's the deal with that? It's all about me. I like me. Here's Steve Martin talking about his plans to do stand-up. Cut 16. Would you ever do stand-up again, do you think? No, I don't think I would. No, it really requires a complete dedication. You have to do it. You can't just go out for a month. You have to go out for 11 months. You have to... Really do it every night to stay fresh and hot. Whenever I would do the Tonight Show, I would always work the night before because I found that if I didn't, I would be just that less sharp. He is very serious. That is a serious craft, Mike. He's not joking. You don't mess around with stand-up comedy. Steve Martin, when he used to talk, he used to sound real funny. He is a very serious man. Yes. Gary Collins. Busted for DUI last night. Gary Collins? Gary Collins. Who's Gary Collins? I know that name. I know that name. He used to do the... He was on like a TV show. He's got a lot of stuff on his IMDB. Yes Dear, Young and the Restless, Jungle Book, Jag, Baywatch Night, Secrets, Hotel, Fantasy Island.
Hanger 18, Disneyland, Charlie's Angels. Didn't Gary Collins have a talk show too? That's what I remember. Yeah, that's Gary Collins. Oh, that picture. Not flattering. Which one are you looking at? The one on TMZ. Yeah, you like how he's not wearing any shoes? I mean, any socks. The loafers with no socks. Well, that sucks. So what's the story, Sky? Well, they say he was driving last night in Sherman Oaks around 530. Rob laughs immediately. I mean, come on to this guy. Well, look at what he's wearing. Yeah. Who goes out like that? He's like in a polo that's tucked into khaki shorts with a belt and then obviously bare legs all the way down to the loafers with no socks. Like he has women's legs, but really hairy. Yes. There's a lot of legs showing there. Oh, dude. But so a witness says that he was sexy. Put on something that you can get arrested in and be comfortable. Rob. Well, I don't suggest that. I'm just saying. That's what you do, right? Again, Rob never talks but has huge opinions on men wearing loafers without socks. Men's DUI get-ups. Yeah, what you get arrested in. When I go out, I like to be comfortable just in case you ever have to. That should be your invention.
What? Like DUI clothes. A line of DUI appropriation. Hi, my name's Boston Rob. I've been pulled over for DUI before, and let me tell you, it can be embarrassing. That's why I came up with DUI sweats. Patent pending. Weird. So anyway, so yeah, last night around 530 in Sherman Oaks, a witness says he was driving at least 60 miles per hour when he slammed into a Toyota causing that car to spin around into oncoming traffic. It caused his car to lose control and also travel into oncoming traffic where he smashed into two cars that were parked on the other side of the street. He's lucky he's not dead. Oh, yeah. And that other people aren't dead. Yeah. Holy Toledo. That outfit. Thank you. The outfit's not the most flattering. TMZ.com if you'd like to see this outfit. It's not the most flattering. Does he have a wife to take that from his wife's closet? Hey, give the guy a break. Those are not men's clothes. Ballet loafers.
He's just like a soccer mom. Okay. Like that summer is higher for a soccer mom. I've seen that in JCPenney in like the women's section. Am I not accurate? Well, Rob's very passionate about this subject. Like that's ridiculous. He's very upset about it. Wow. It's just so funny what he gets passionate about. Yeah. Like I picture the cop going, is this how you want to have a look tonight? You're not being arrested on DUI. You're being arrested for that outfit. We're the fashion police. He's like, you were really at the bar in this. The bar. The bar. What a goofball. So, uh... Hey! Can I move on, please? Relax, dude. Rob, I want those shorts, huh? No. Eddie, how dare you? Don't get him going. Stop it. Don't. I'm telling you. My mom likes that outfit. Okay. I just got an IM from my mom. Darn it. I turned his mic off. Thank you. He's like Eddie's dog, you know? Like, Eddie just plays with him and gets him going.
Like, those shorts are so short, eh, Rob? Dude, shut up, Eddie. And it's like, there's so much leg that goes down to the loafer, and there's no, like, black, nothing to cover, like, some of the leg. Anyway, Reese Witherspoon, she just told a story about how she went to this costume party, a Halloween costume party. That was Gary Collins. And she wasn't dressed up. That's what it's going to be for Halloween. I'm going to get hammered and wear those mom shorts. No one will get it. He has to put on the... Ow! He has to put on the... The headphones just shocked me. That's God saying shut up. Oh my gosh. Oh man. Next Wednesday I'm coming in like that. All right. Hammered. Hey, Brittany's parenting coach. has issued a report. You know how she has to have this court appointed parenting coach? She issued a report or he issued a report. She? Yeah. Yeah.
And what does it say? What does the new report say? Well, sources say, because the report was submitted to the judge in the custody case, but sources who have seen the report say that the report focuses on the fact that Brittany paid no attention or had no respect at all for the parenting coach, and she treated her like she was one of her employees who she could just blow off. The report also says that Brittany is often distracted. She's often off in her own world when she has the kids, and she is adamant that she doesn't have to listen to anybody. So the parenting coach says that Brittany is so easily distracted that holding the visits in Brittany's home is no longer a good idea and wants the court to require Brittany to have to visit the kids in the parenting coach's office instead of Brittany's own home to have the visitations there. So we'll see what the judge does with all this information. I believe their next court date is on Friday. So that's not getting any better. No opposite. So the latest that we know on the fires is that up north in Camp Pendleton, there's a fire burning there. And they have reopened the five freeway moving south. Still closed going north. Correct.
How did this one come up, Skye? It's called the Horno Fire that is burning on Camp Pendleton. And there were some smaller fires, and they tried to start a fire break. And that, unfortunately, ended up jumping the freeway to the other side of the freeway and kind of has gotten a little bit out of control. But, you know, luckily, like we've been reporting all morning, as of now, no structures are currently being threatened on the Camp Pendleton base, which is really good. What do you got, Ash? Rick is standing by with a traffic report and particularly how the five freeway is doing. I guess there's been some confusion or some mixed reports. What's going on, Rick? Rick will clear all that up right now. Oh, yeah, that's me. Yeah, well, you got it right, Mikey. The 5 freeway, that's still closed off. Northbound at the 76. There's not a lot of traffic going up there, fortunately, though. The word has gotten out, and it's not really too bad, but they're basically working on moving up fire equipment off the freeway here. If you happen to work at San Onofre, the power plant there, they'll give you a police escort up through that area. But in the meantime, sorry to say, northbound 5 still shut down. Your only other option out of San Diego is on the 15. Take the 78 back over to the 15, head north from there, and then you've got either rotate
a highway you can scroll through, or the 91 all the way up in Orange County there. Kind of the good news about the Southbound 5 being open from San Clemente and Orange County all the way into San Diego is that that leaves us a link now that people can bring in help and supplies and stuff like that into San Diego. There's not a real rush to get out of the main city right now, but it's good news that that Southbound 5 is open because that's a very important link for help coming into the county. Northbound 67. Pretty much good to go until you get to Scripps Poway Parkway. You cannot access that any farther north. That's closed all the way up to Ramona. Wild Canyon Road is still shut down as well from around on Willow Road up to San Vicente. But if you're coming down out of the burn areas, southbound Wildcat Canyon, that's clear all the way into San Diego. And then you've got the 94, which has been closed for several days from Steel Canyon all the way east out to Harris Ranch. And that's it. I'm Rick Lawrence with Traffic on Rockwood053. And then, Rick, did you want to give the traffic tip line? Oh, yeah. Thank you very much. I need that reminder this morning. No problem. Yeah, because P1s have been awesome. They've just been awesome for the last few days with the fires helping us out, giving us the tips on what's the real haps out there. 858-467-0504. That's our total traffic tip line. 858-467-0504. Give us a call. Tell us what you see. All right. Thanks a lot, man. Appreciate it. That's Rick Lawrence.
Mikey Show, P1 Don, what's up? Hey, Mike, this is your neighbor's dad that I was staying at their house, Dave and Nadine. Okay. And they're in Hawaii, and I was wondering, I talked to your wife the other morning, and when we left, I wondered if you know any condition on what's going on in that area. You know, it had gotten worse yesterday. Yesterday, it had gotten worse because of the witch fire through... Rancho Santa Fe was just starting to make its way west. And so it had got worse. However, I went to a great website last night that everybody can utilize. And I sent it to... I should just have it up here so that I always constantly have it. Sky, do you have it? Hang on just a second. I want to give this to everybody because everybody can use this website. It's really good. Get this map. I got it. Okay. I got it. The website is www. It's www.sdcountyemergency.com. Okay, got it. sdcountyemergency.com. And basically, I know that the city of Carlsbad had called off evacuations. And so it looks okay in our neighborhood right now. It looks okay.
I'm in San Clemente, my daughter's, and we were going to try to go back down and see if we could get in just to see the condition. Mm-hmm. You know, because we packed all their stuff up, called them while they were at the airport getting ready to board a plane. Right. And I had talked to your wife, and she said that it burned through that area, I guess, four years ago before those houses were there. Right. Yeah, that's what I had heard, too. But, hey, that's the latest. It's okay right now, but we'll just, you know, just keep watching it. Well, I can give them a call in Hawaii. That'll at least... give them some peace of mind. There you go. Thank you very much. You got it. A lot of people have been talking about the Larry Himmel thing. If you haven't heard what happened, Larry Himmel, Channel 8, who's been a reporter for years in San Diego. Oh, yeah. Staple. Yeah, Larry Himmel's been on forever here in San Diego. He had to see his own home burned down. He's from KFMB Television. Cut six. On any given day, I would say welcome to my home. This is what is left of my home, just outside the forest ranch area. Fire crews have fought valiantly to save every house on this hill, took a shot at it, and were nice enough to let us out there. That was our garage. Back there, the bedrooms, no pets left behind, family out, cars out, safe. But you can see my hose right here, valiantly trying to do something.
A southwestern style house. I've been in it about 25 years. Out here when there was nothing. We did what we could. This was a living hell coming over the hill. That is rough, man. It's so rough hearing that. Especially if you've watched Larry Himmel over the years. I saw that happening live. And I remember when I saw that, it scared me so bad. I just thought everybody's being affected, people on television. Because you don't see that usually in disasters or whatever. You don't usually see people on television saying, this is my home. So that was scary. Yeah, I've been watching NBC 739 for the majority of the coverage. And Stoney, one of their sports guys over there, lives in Rancho Bernardo. And so they showed him driving up to his home, and he didn't know, you know, because yesterday they released the list of the homes that were destroyed, but this was before that. So at that point, he didn't know if his home. And so it showed him pulling up to his house on the cell phone with his wife, and he just basically broke into tears telling her that their house is still standing. That's unreal. You know, because he didn't know, you know. Hey, Sean. Sean is up in the Bay Area, and so...
He doesn't get to see this firsthand, which, dude, I'm telling you, you're so lucky to not having to be breathing in what everybody's breathing in here. But our sound effects guy's up in San Francisco, and we connect with him via satellite. But, dude, it's such a trip when you're watching TV because they have a constant scroll going across the bottom of the TV, and they will give out addresses of burned-down houses. Like, it'll say a street. Like, it'll say, you know, Elm Street. And then it will just give out numbers. And you just have to watch TV and see if your house number comes up. Yeah, luckily they did post yesterday the actual addresses. You know, yesterday, I believe it was somewhere like around 3 o'clock, the list was finally posted because my grandmother has a home in Rancho Bernardo. And it was so sad because we all stayed with my parents in San Marcos on Monday night. And, you know, my grandma had had her 5 o'clock cocktail. And, you know, of course she, you know, looks to me because of what I do for a living to have information. And she must have said to me four or five times, do you know about my house? Is my house still?
standing? Do you know anything about my house? What about my neighborhood? What about my neighbors? Do you know? And she just kept asking me, and I kept telling her, I'm so sorry. I have no idea. Go get another gin, Grandma. Stop it. Get away from me. Did she say, what about Paris Hilton, and you'd rattle off five things? Oh, right? I'd be like, well, what are you talking about? What's the deal with Brittany? Oh, Brittany, have you heard about that new custody report? It's pretty bad. Our boy Flounder has the sky montage ready to go. The fire has burned through several houses. It's just crazy right now. There's one desperate neighbor on the corner with a garden hose. Looks like it's hitting either houses or really thick brush. Anything San Diego needs. We are there, we are partners in this.
Everyone is coming together to help. How bad the winds are and they're driving this fire much faster than anybody had anticipated. Yeah, this is actually the first time I've laughed, like, I don't know, in the past couple days. Bravo. Wow. Oh, my God. Oh, standing ovation. Oh, my. When Sky said that on Monday. Suck. We'd been going through the fire approximately 45 minutes at that point. It was Tuesday. It was Tuesday morning I said it. And Skye goes... Yeah, this is actually the first time I've laughed, like, I don't know, in the past couple days. Yeah, because I didn't laugh on Sunday or on Monday. It was crazy. And then Tuesday morning, you guys... Yeah, this is actually the first time I've laughed, like, I don't know, in the past couple days. Whatever. Right there with you, Skye. You know, when Skye said that, it really brought it all home for me, Brett. I said, Skye, I feel you, girl. You know what, though?
Get through it. First time I've laughed, like, I don't know, in the past couple days. Let the healing begin, San Diego. Sometimes even a clown. What? It's like the crown. I don't feel like laughing anymore. Not laughing. Oh, man. Poor Sky. Thank you, Sean. Poor Sky. Finally laughed. Okay. So dumb. So dumb, Sean. You guys know Tom Hanks is on MySpace saying a bunch of stuff? Not about the fires.
Tom Hanks has a MySpace? I guess. That's weird. What is it? What is he doing? Well, I guess it just recently went up because, you know, it's like an entertainment story about his new MySpace page where he has all these, like, video entries, and one of them is him driving around in his new electric car and him talking about his electric car and how it gets over 100 miles per battery charge. Whatever. Yeah, and then I guess in, you know, because, like, there's different sections on your MySpace page, and one section is about... All of his pictures. in front of like a mirror and like the camera. You see the mirror and the camera. Vanessa Hudgens style. It's all Vanessa Hudgens type pictures. Only it's the star of Bosom Buddies. So in the about me section on his MySpace page, it says, quote, I'm that actor in some of those movies you liked and some you didn't. So that's how he describes himself. But yeah, Tom Hanks on MySpace. Never disliked a Tom Hanks movie. Never? There's not one Tom Hanks movie that I don't like. Nice. I like them all. That's why the guy's such a big movie. The reason that he is a gigantoid movie star is the same reason Will Smith is. It's very difficult to not like him. Big was great. Big was great. Did you like Turner and Hooch? Of course. Philadelphia? Never seen it. Yeah, you never saw it. You never saw it. Oh, God. If Sky wasn't in here right now, I could have got away with it. Oh, yeah. No one else ever said it. And Eddie just went to the bathroom.
The Da Vinci Code? You a big fan? Didn't see it. Polar Express. Loved it. Sleepless in Seattle. Yeah, no one cannot like that movie. Hello? Yeah, I loved it. The Lady Killers. You're full of crap. I didn't see Sleepless in Seattle. How can you even say then that you even know? How about You've Got Mail? Have you seen You've Got Mail? If I haven't seen Sleepless in Seattle, how am I supposed to see You've Got Mail? What are you doing this weekend? Oh, stop it, Skye. I'm coming over. I would never. No way. I'm coming over. We're having a DVD day on How Does Sunday Work For You? Sounds great. I'll tell you what. We'll watch This in Seattle and You've Got Mail on Sunday. How about we do that? Have you seen A League of Their Own? Yes. It's funny. It's great. It's good. How about we have that marathon and we'll watch You've Got Mail and then after that a movie I select. Yes. That'd be great. Death Proof. Death Proof. Alien.
Come on, Skye, we'll watch a little Death Proof. On Sunday? You want to do it on Sunday? You got it. Mike disagreed on Sunday, on a football Sunday, to watch Sleepless in Seattle. I love that type of music. Dude, I'm on, you know, Tom Hanks' IMDb page, and he was in an episode of Happy Days. He was in an episode of The Love Boat. I bet. I want to see those. That would be cool. Yeah, I remember him in Happy Days. Do you really? What was? He was a bully, and I think he got in a confrontation with Fonz. Really? Yeah. Uh-oh. You know who won that one, huh? When we lived in the Bay Area, you guys remember a little junior college called Chabot Junior College? Yeah. I went there. Tom Hanks went to Chabot.
He sure did. Oh, look at that. Mm-hmm. He was a graduate. Ew. Tom Hanks. He's real likable, just like Will Smith. Yeah, I like him. I haven't seen that many Will Smith movies. I saw Men in Black, and that's about it. Really? Men in Black 2 was good. And the best of all, Independence Day. It's probably the worst science fiction movie ever made. That's false. I love iRobot. That's a good one. You got to watch that. I've heard it's a turd. It is not a turd. It's not. My robot's a turd. It is not a turd. I heard it's awful. It's really good. It's bad. Eddie, you missed it. Mike's going to watch Sleepless in Seattle with me this Sunday instead of football. He would never do that in a million years. He agreed to it. He said this Sunday. I didn't realize I was agreeing to Sunday. I said Sunday like 12 times, and then I said football Sunday, and you said, yeah, we're off. I thought you said Saturday. I thought like 12 times. That was my point. Then she's going to watch Death Perth. After he watches Sleepless in Seattle instead of football.
I don't know, Eddie. Do you think Sky would be a big fan of Death Proof? I don't think it's as gory and violent as other movies. The leg. Well, that is obviously. There's some pretty. That one's really crazy. Tire on the face. Oh, dude. Tire on the face. I love that. What's that? It's so brilliant. See, I don't want to ruin it. That whole scene is just awesome. I'm going to turn the mic off and tell Sky about this. Anyway. I've never seen anything like it. Back to you, Scott. There were so many. I called Sean. And that's a good thing? I called Sean. I go, there were things in that movie I've never seen done. That's crazy. Ever. Ever. That Quentin Tarantino, man. He's a pretty creative person. It's amazing to think that nobody else thought of it. It's such a good idea. Tom Cruise is talking about how he tried to cheer up his friend David Beckham sale. Beckham sale.
Right? Yeah. And, you know, Tom Cruise likes to cheer up his friends, like the rest of us like to cheer up his friends, by taking them to fly some airplanes or race some race cars. Really? Yeah. I mean, that's what you do, right? Yeah. Well, when my friends get down, I say, let's go fly airplanes. Yeah. And race around in race cars. Yeah. I was thinking about sending flowers and a card, but nah, airplane sounds better. I would think that being Tom Cruise's friend would be real strange. You think? Yeah. Well, honestly, honestly, I mean, I'm being real serious about, like, imagine. Ding dong. Like, what happens when he opens the door and you go inside? Like, I bet it just gets real weird. Yeah. Like, what are you offered to drink at Tom Cruise's house? I don't think you'd be offered... Barley, milk, and corn syrup? Honestly. Whatever they feed their baby. Right. I don't think he's saying, hey, man, you want a beer? I don't think that happens at Tom Cruise's house. It's like the cantina scene in Star Wars. I don't like you either. Yeah, that's in his kitchen. Oh, my. Hey, listen. It wouldn't surprise me. You walk in there, you see aliens walking around. What are you doing here? What's Katie? What's Katie?
home's doing yeah she's like you know she's like a zombie in the corner no she's feeding the kid out of like yeah churning butter churning butter that's gotta be crazy do you know what i watched on tv yesterday it was fascinating my wife like her eyes were rolling in the back of her head and she couldn't believe i was watching because i i just get too much of the fire stuff like i can only take so much and i start to get depressed you know And so I'm flipping around through the satellite and they have this documentary. I see the description is ABBA something, something, something. And I look at the description and it's interviews with the band, record producers and personal archives. An hour of the greatest television ever. Oh, man. Oh, it was fantastic. What the hell is that on? Dude, it was on. It was on. No, no, no, no. It was on this obscure satellite channel. Everyone they interview has a hole blown out of their nose. Yeah, pretty much. It was all about coke. It was a fascinating thing to watch. But that blonde singer from ABBA, she's real talented. And they were showing her back in the old days.
They show her doing her first television appearance in Norway or Sweden or wherever they were from. It looked like the Ed Sullivan Show. She's on with the rest of the members of ABBA. She's singing a Supreme song in Swedish. It's one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life. It's one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life. But then they talk about the... craziness that ensued when they released the song Dancing Queen and I was a kid of that generation and so I said to my wife I gotta tell you that song when I was a kid was maybe one of the biggest hits ever ever it was on like every five minutes that song I know it's got a very gay thing now but I'm telling you at the time back in the 70s this was just a gigantoid hit But what was really interesting was they were showing, you know, it's two chicks in the band, ABBA. You guys know that, right? Right. Aren't they married to each other? Like, not the girls, but the chicks. They got divorced. Yeah. They got divorced, and it was because of, you know. It's two girls and two dudes. Yes. And they show the two chicks in the, like, archive footage of the chicks in the studio actually laying down the vocals for this tune. And hearing them sing it without the music was pretty impressive.
And it was hilarious because they were wearing what is fashionable now, those big Paris Hilton glasses. And I go, I said, those glasses would go for $450 right now. And I love those kind of documentaries that they show on VH1 and ones like this where they show footage of the guys now saying, we were just not prepared for what was going to happen after that song came out. You see the people in the audience doing the crying Michael Jackson stuff. Didn't they barely speak English? Barely. Recorded that? Yeah, but they could sing it real good. Oh man, real good. That was a big one by them. This was a big one by them.
Yeah, it was. On the first in line. Honey, I'm still free. Take a chance on me. If you need me, let me know. Gonna be around. If you got no place to go. When you're feeling down. That's great stuff, man. You got that Fernando song? Oh, yeah. Let's have a little idea and do that. Broadcasting from the Cricket Wireless Studios. Official home of the Mikey Morning Show. It is, at the same time, the stupidest and funniest thing I've ever heard. By far. K-I-O-Z, San Diego's Rock. I'm trying to remember this one. They played the heck out of this in San Diego when Fernando Valenzuela was pitching for the Padres. Really? It was playing all the time. Get to the hook. Yeah, get to the hook already. What did they think to record this? I don't know. Like, who's Fernando?
This Latin-themed song Fernando for these Swedes. We got a new update. Oh, good. What's it called? FM News Primary. Good morning. I'm Delana Bennett for AM600 COGO. San Diego County says the property damage from this week's wildfires has now reached at least $1 billion countywide. And residents not affected by the fires were told by Mayor Jerry Sanders today to please conserve. The Harris Fire and the fires in Camp Pendleton were cutting transmission lines that bring power to San Diego. And the mayor says that we have to do everything we can as a community to fight the fire. And that means conserving water and energy. More than a half million people remain evacuated from their homes this morning. And about 10,000 people spent the night at Qualcomm Stadium last night. All southbound lanes of Interstate 5 are now open, but northbound lanes still closed because there's a fire that broke out early this morning. Northbound 5 closed between 76 and Cristianitos Road in San Clemente. DeLuz, the community there on Camp Pendleton, has been evacuated. As of 7 a.m. this morning, the Otay Mesa voluntary evacuation has been lifted. Otay Mesa residents can go home in the South Bay. Also, Delmar Heights and Carmel Valley residents are being allowed back in.
continues to burn, remaining out of control, and more evacuations were ordered on the north side of the 76. In Julian, Bonzel, San Luis Ray Heights, and Winter Warm. The Witch Creek Fire, the biggest in the county, remains out of control in the North County. And it is merged with the smaller Pumaca Fire, which was sparked by a structure fire on the La Jolla Indian Reservation early yesterday. In the Pumaca Fire, mandatory evacuation orders are now in effect for Birch Hill near Palomar Mountain. And residents are asked to go to the Temecula Community Center on Rancho Vista Road in Temecula. About 80,000 acres burning in the Harris Fire. in the South Bay on the outskirts of Chula Vista and Bonita. It's about 10% contained. And among the threatened areas, Del Zura, Deerhorn Valley, and Lions Valley. County spokeswoman Leslie Kirk says firefighters are now defending homes in Lions Valley. School officials say all classes and programs canceled for the rest of the week. And good news, the fire officials say that weather conditions are expected to improve.
for today through this afternoon. And tonight, the red flag warning that we've been experiencing, meaning high fire danger, expires at 6 o'clock tonight. That's the latest for continuing coverage. Tune to AM600 COGO. Tell me on the air. When Andy from the office was trying to ask out Angela. Right. He put all the phones, he called a bunch of his buddies, and they sang Take a Chance on Me to Angela. I do not remember. Well, I just sent it to Ashley, and she's going to... I can play it right now. Load it up and I'll play it. Yeah, load it. It's one of the funniest things. I was going to bring that up earlier. It's genius. Really? Better than the original. That's funny.
And you didn't know what he was doing. Like, he was putting people on hold, walking around. You're like, what's going on? And then, you know, he's like, all right, everybody ready? Genius. And which song did they do it to? Take a Chance on Me. It's so good. And she says no, probably, right? No, actually, I think that, wasn't that what went her over? No, it was the cat. It was the feral cat. He gave her the feral cat to put in a box. Wait a second. Andy asked out, Angela, Dwight's now girlfriend? Have you been watching? Dude, I don't remember when they... That was two weeks ago. Oh, no, no, no. I haven't seen it. anything this season that's why oh i haven't seen anything but the first one oh yeah it's been awesome and ever since you've gone hey you know last night's show not that good i was like i'm out yeah see angela broke up with dwight over killing the cat i saw that and so since and since nobody knew that i saw them shaking hands in the parking lot yeah since since most people in the office didn't know that angela and dwight were a couple and he starts talking to dwight about you know what i think i'm gonna give she's kind of hot i'm gonna ask her out so he's been trying to woo her and one part was by singing the song
And then after that didn't work, he took a feral cat out from the alley near the warehouse and put it in a box and gave it to her to replace the dead cat. It's pretty funny. So now. Do not provide milk or wool or meat. So she said that now Andy can ask her out, but there's lots of stipulations. Like she won't eat anywhere where there's a patio, nowhere that like sells fish. It's pretty funny. She won't eat anywhere there's a patio. Is it just supposed to not make sense? Well, yeah, she goes. She just rattled off a list of things. Yeah, she goes. Stipulations. You may invite me to dinner, but nowhere that blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. That's so funny. That's awesome. I told Skye I hate that actress. Yeah. Really? You hate Angela? Yeah, the actress that plays Angela. How come? I think she's a terrible actress. Every time she does something, I'm like. I feel like I'm watching a high school production of something. See, I totally believe in her character. I buy it. Really? Yeah. Especially ever since when we interviewed Jenna Fisher, I remember her saying that Angela Off is like funny and she's the opposite. Like sweet, funny, cute. So now I even more appreciate like how she's such an anal, weird. Every time Angela comes on the screen, I go, oh boy. Oh, you're so picky. It's amateur hour.
This reminds me of my weird childhood so much. I don't know this one. What is this? Oh, this is SOS. They were talking about there was this producer. And it wasn't, it was not Phil Spector. It was Ronnie something. I can't remember. Big time producer from back then. And they were talking about how they were hoping to get big so that they could get him to be their producer. And the reason that they wanted him to be their producer is because they had heard his records and loved them. But he was this guy that he used to take the keyboard stuff and he would layer them over each other. So you had like 20 keyboards playing at once or 10 bass guitars playing at once. And that's what they did with him. That's why it sounds so huge. The ABBA stuff. Who would have ever thought that the ABBA stuff would be so interesting to me? But I was into it. Hey, Kurt is on the line. P1 Kurt, are you there?
Yeah, I'm here. Go ahead, man. I'm just calling because I work for Motel 6 at the downtown San Diego property. I just wanted to let it be known that we still have several rooms available here downtown, also in Chula Vista, Hotel Circle, and then several of our Riverside properties, and that we do accept pets. Okay. Oh, it's great to know. All right, cool, man. All right. Appreciate it. Yeah, because I'm sure people are looking for places to stay. You got it, Ash? Yeah, it's right above the Sky Montage. Hey, hang on a second. Hello? If you change your mind, I'll be first in line. I'm still free. Take a chance on me. If you need me, let me know. Gonna be around if you got no place to go. If you're feeling down, if you're all alone.
When the pretty birds have flown, honey, I'm still free. Take a chance on me. Gonna do my very best, and that ain't no lie. If you put me to the test, if you let me try. Take a chance on me. That's all I ask of you, Angela. Take a chance. Take a chance. I want that as my ringtone. Is she thinking about it? Yes. Yep. Hey, what'd you say? I don't know yet. I have to call you back. I'll call you back. I have to go clean up after the party. Oh, no. Everybody in the office is just looking at him like dumbfounded. So he does it in front of everybody? Yeah. Like he used Oscar and Kevin's phones at Angela's desk.
That's awesome. I have them all TVO'd. I gotta watch them. Yeah, that was pretty funny. How's it look outside, Eddie? Is it smoky? Real super smoky? We're in Kearney Mesa. Still really is? Yeah. But it is interesting because they're now starting, the news, the TV news is now starting to get aerial footage of areas like Rancho Bernardo, whereas before it was so smoky that they couldn't see. And to see the destruction now through a clear sky is amazing. What's crazy is you'll see entire neighborhoods destroyed and one house still standing. Yeah. Like, untouched. How do you think that happens? You know, I don't know. And it is amazing. Yeah. I mean, it's just, I guess just by the grace of God, the place is spared. Yeah. Right. But it trips you out when you see that. Yeah, well, and, you know, what I heard is, you know, and I'm sure a lot of people are aware of this now going through it is, you know, the firefighters, the way they do it, if they like have, I think it's called the 30 percent rule. And so if a building is more than 30 percent engulfed in flames, they just they don't even try, you know, and they'll move on to a house where they have a chance. So maybe that could be part of the deal. You know, by the time the firefighters got there, certain houses were just a lost cause. And so the houses they focused on, they were, you know, luckily able to save. Hey, guys, this is an email.
The value of a home is the subject. Hey guys, I'm glad all of you are hanging in there and have been both lucky and blessed considering everything going on around you. I just heard Crush It's story about his house and the whole value of the house and the stuff inside. Here's something I heard from an architect teacher of mine from 20 years ago in high school that I still remember today. The walls of a structure are meaningless. They have no value. It's the space contained within those walls that hold the value. It took me a long time to really get the grasp of the idea, but listening to you guys reminded me so much about that lesson and makes it really clear in my mind. You guys are in our prayers and hope your families, your pets, and your homes get through this hell safely. P1 Popcorn Shrimp. No, Popcorn Chimp. Popcorn Chimp. It's so true, man. I mean, you don't want your house to burn down, but if it does, it's stuff and you can replace it. Yeah.
I think the saddest part about the fires and if you have to lose a place is that you have created a lot of memories there. I mean, there's people that have been in those houses like in Rancho Bernardo for, you know, 20, 30 years. And you just, I mean, that's unbelievable to think about. Sky's saying that there's more speculation about David Copperfield from that FBI raid. Yeah. So, you know, we talked about this yesterday, but, you know, with the fires going on, of course, you know, this isn't on a lot of people's radar. But basically last week, David Copperfield, one of his like a warehouse storage facility was raided by the FBI and they were pulling things out of there like computers and hard drives and digital cameras and cash and stuff like that. And then came the accusations that a woman had said that David Copperfield had raped her. And that's what the FBI was investigating. So sources are now saying that what the FBI is investigating is like that David Copperfield basically had this like thing going on with the show. Kind of like you've heard rock stars doing this, how rock stars will have like.
code words that they give to their security team when they want the security to pluck a hot chick out of the audience. Do you know what I'm talking about, Mikey? Yeah, so they say that he used to use code words to map out where the hot chicks were. You know, usually girls, they want to get with rock stars. Do girls really go to magic trick shows to get with the magician? Is that the deal? Like, who knew? Yeah, I don't know. Like, oh man, I hope I hook up with... The magician tonight. Well, he was with that supermodel, Claudia Schiffer, for a long time. Yeah, for sure. I mean, so, he does pretty well with the ladies. I guess it's possible that he has groupies. And he's got a S-load of money, so, you know, that doesn't hurt with the ladies either, you know. Yeah, I mean, I bet even Gross Carrot Top has groupies here and there. Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me. I mean, they're male, but... Right. Okay, wasn't expecting that, but okay. So they say that, yeah, that Copperfield... I'm a big fan of Copperfield. Okay, no. We've had enough of you today. Let's not do that. No more. Yeah. I think he's handsome. You do not think he's handsome. I do. I think he's yoked.
He is yoked. He is yoked. I mean, that is true. And he's got beautiful eyes. Oh, they're gross. No, they're creepy. He accentuates them with eye makeup. And Botox. That's true. Yeah, so he has no wrinkles. Okay. And he also has a wonderful smile. And very pretty freckles. You're wild. I like redheads. Okay. So, anyway. Thanks for chiming in. Yeah, thank you for that commentary. So they say, yeah, that Copperfield would use these code words with the security. The security would get the women out of the audience, bring them backstage after the show. Copperfield would talk to them and say that he was interested in them because... Are you guys really just finding out about this? About Copperfield and the whole goings on? I've known about it for years. How did you know? Because, well, first of all, I'm a part of the magic union. You are? The magic union? Why? And in the industry, we call him David Copperfield. Oh, really? That son of a gun. We've known it for years. Apparently, it's just starting to get out. Really? George Takai. Yes, we belong to a union of gay magicians. Okay. Our t-shirts say...
Watch me make it disappear. Really? With a rabbit going into a hand. I don't think that's what you mean. With a rabbit going into a hand. I don't think that's what you mean. But David Copperfield is being accused of raping a woman. Oh, is that right? It's a cover-up, then. So it's all conspiracy. It's all a sham so that people don't know he's in the gay man union. Oh, okay. Why are you... Well, technically, I'm an illusionist. Why are you the one that you are? An illusionist? kisses men. That's your illusion? That it looks like you're kissing a dude? That's the illusion. You had an illusion for years that you were straight. That was a good one. That was real popular for a while. Quite possibly my best trick. Oh, man. So, yeah, so Copperfield gets the women out of the audience with the code word. They get backstage. He says, hey, we're interested in you because we may be coming to your hometown, and I might want to use you in my act. And then they have to pull out the camera and record these women, and they ask them weird questions. They say they ask them things like, what's your favorite men's cologne? They also ask things like, where do you like to vacation?
So they're saying if this is true, that the Seattle woman who's alleging rape may be one of the women pulled out of the audience being on the tapes in the storage facility. I don't know, Mike. What's so funny? What's going on, Mike? And back to you, Mike. I'm still George DeCat. I do a great disappearing act with Kielbasa. Really? Hey, man. Come on. Would you tell the audience how that would work? You just throw it out into the audience. You go, uh-oh, it disappears. I don't. She got you. Weird trick. Interesting. George? Never heard that before. You're a naughty boy, George. What are your thoughts now, George? You're a naughty boy. Pull it together, man. Do you think Copperfield did it? What do you have to say? What's going on, Takai? George? Uh-oh. I think George has lost it. George and Eddie are currently crying because they're laughing so hard. Well, no, because you're laughing so hard. I think that's how you're crying. First time I've laughed. Shut up. Really, that's the first time I've laughed in a few days. Tough one. Yeah, this is actually the first time I've laughed.
Like, I don't know, in the past couple days. Really? Wow. All of you? Yesterday morning. You guys hear about Dumbledore? Yes. Now is he part of the union? Is he part of the union? Now we've got you. Well, he's a wizard. So they can't be a part of the magician's union? No, he is. Oh, that's fine. Ridiculous. A wizard isn't a magician. He's not? No. wizard casts spells. So they're not allowed in the gay man's magician's union. No, no, no. Don't be ridiculous. That would be stupid. That would be stupid. My bad. Weren't you up for the part? Yes, I was, but the part did not call for a Filipino. You're not. You're not. You're a Japanese. Oh. And didn't they tell you you were too gay for the role? Yes, in the audition they said, sorry, too gay. Your wizard costume was pink. You guys hear about the South Korean activist that built this house shaped like a toilet? That's a true story. That will show them. Yeah, so this dude in South Korea who's trying to promote improved sanitation around the world has built this big old luxury house that looks like a toilet.
You can rent it out, but it's not going to be cheap. It's $50,000 a night. Instead of a wand, I had a salami. That's why they didn't go with you. I literally have tears. Everyone, stop I-M-ing Mike Jones. Stop it. He can't handle it. I literally have tears coming out of my eyes. Obviously, he can't handle it today. Eddie, stop it. Eddie. Oh, my goodness. Whatever you just send him, stop. What do you want? You want some tears to come out of my eyes? Look what you just did. I used to be able to make my underpants disappear. Fed to the hamper, Sky.
To the hamper. They were ready to be washed. Washed? Washed? Ta-da. Instead of a wizard hat, it was a Carmen Miranda hat. Banana. That toilet house is the funniest thing I've ever seen. You guys got to see the South Korean toilet house. The South Korean activist. Wow. We got to put that on the web. Oh, my gosh. Lightheaded. You guys should have seen. No more. When I used to saw a cowboy wearing only chaps in half. That's weird. This is quite the show you would put on, George the guy. It was at the MGM. Really? Not the casino, right? No.
It stood for men, gay men. That's a club in San Francisco. Old MGM. Tonight's a World Series, Rob. You ready? Beckett versus Jeff Francis. Wow. First pitch, 535, if it's on. Yeah. There might be more coverage. Any guarantees on this? No. I'm not alone. Well. I'm not allowed to make any guarantees. No? Well, I made a deal with Rob. What was the deal? I said I'd be very respectful of his team and he'd be respectful of Padres. So I've been doing that. Why? Had you said something prior to that? Hey, cut it out. Well, prior to that, you know, that I had said that the Red Sox were going to go to the World Series and win it. So far, there's nothing wrong. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, he thought that was jinxing him. He thought that was jinxing him. But it turned out the opposite. You helped him. Yeah.
Yeah, Rob, what do you think of that? I don't know. Don't you think that's pretty cool? I actually helped you. Yeah, I appreciate it. I also think, you know, the fact that Rob ate that balut during Game 7, he should have to do that for every game. You know what? I actually, it's the most disgusting thing I've ever thought of, but I will do it if I have to. If you have to. Yeah, if we get down 3-1 again, I'll eat more balut for the Sox. Really? I would, yeah. So you're going to guarantee a win? Then let's do it. If it gets down 3-1, I'll do it. If it gets down 3-1, you've got to eat more balut. Okay. I would also pull a rabbit out of the head. And by rabbit, I mean a naked Heath Ledger. Okay. That's different. Right out of the hat. Ta-da. Heath Ledger. Oh, wow. You guys got to go to that magic show and see George Takai pull Heath Ledger out of a house. That's amazing. Wow. Mariah Carey says... Better listen to this one, Rob. She wants kids.
But she wants to get married first. Well, good for her. Yeah, good for her. Yeah, she was on The View yesterday and she was saying that, you know, she would want to be married with a stable family environment before bringing children into this world. And then she kind of like backpedaled a little bit and was like, well, not that everybody has to do it that way. But, you know, for her, that's how she wants to do it. She talked about how her parents divorced when she was three years old and how that had a huge effect on her upbringing. And she wouldn't want to do that to a child. That's cool. Yeah, I think that's great. And she actually went on to talk a lot about, because they asked her what she thought about other stars who are going through things right now, like Brittany and Lindsay and whatever. And she said that they need spiritual guidance. She said if you're not spiritually centered, you're kind of back and forth. And, you know, everybody has something that's right for them, but it's really helped her in her life. That's cool. Yeah.
You guys want to see me pull a naked Senator Craig out of my G-string? This is gross. Yuck. It's a wonderful trick. I'm George Takai. Yes, we know. I used to be on Star Trek. I played Sulu. Right. It's a real toe-tapper, that number. I get it. You get it? Yes. You can go now. Hey, um... The Seether, whoever the guy is that sings for Seether that used to date Amy Lee from Evanescence. Sean Morgan. Sean Morgan. He is apparently now commenting on his breakup with Amy Lee. Because remember, she wrote that song, Call Me When You're Sober. Yeah. Which we all thought was kind of a cheap shot. Because he had just gone into rehab. He just got into rehab. Yeah. But it is a really good song. It's real catchy. But it's, you know, it's kind of mean about this guy. Yeah. Sean. Morgan. Sean Preston. Morgan. And so anyway, so. Sean Preston is Britney style. She's got out of rehab. He's so young. He's so young. Well, he needed it. Bad parenting. So anyway, what does his song say about her? Because he wrote a song, like, I guess in response to her. Oh. Put it on his new album. Base. Really? Oh, is this the lyrics? Yeah. She's got a huge head. The song is called Breakdown. Oh, sorry.
It's okay. And he only said one thing in regards to Amy Lee and her Evanescence song about him. He just said, I just wrote this one song and it's not nearly as aggressive or violent of an attack as the one that he was served. The sun is gone and the flowers rot. Words are spaces between us. And I should have been down in the rivers I've found of token lost. And I should have been down when you made me insecure. So break me down if it makes you feel right. And hate me now if it keeps you all right. You can break me down if it takes all your might. Because I'm so much more than meets the eye. And I'm the one you can never trust. Because wounds are ways to reveal us. And yeah, I could have tried and devoted my life to both of us. But what a waste of time when the world we have is yours. So break me down if it makes you feel right. Then he goes, uh. And hate me now if it keeps you all right. You can break me down if it takes all your might because I'm so much more than all your lies. Ouch. Hate me, break me down. So break me down. It just repeats.
Yeah, that's not as bad as her thing. No, yeah, her thing was pretty brutal with her song, Call Me When You're Sober. And all this info came out because their album came out yesterday, and he's trying to do publicity for it. So obviously some of the questions he's been getting in these interviews are, are you sober? Did rehab work for you? And he admits that he does fall off the wagon and has fallen off the wagon every once in a while, but he keeps getting back on that wagon and trying to stay there. Really? Yeah. We got a new update? Yes, we do. What's it called? FM News Primary. Good morning. I'm Delaina Bennett with AM600 COGO. More than a half million people remain evacuated from their homes this morning as firefighters work to get a handle on these major wildfires still burning here in San Diego County. In Fallbrook this morning, the Rice Fire near Fallbrook remains out of control. More evacuations ordered there in Bonsol, San Luis Rey Heights, and Winter Warm. They were notified by Reverse 911, and evacuees are asked to go to MiraCosta College or to Borrego High School. The Witch Creek Fire, the largest in Southern California, only about 1% contained, and it's still plaguing several North County communities, including Julian. It's leveled about 640 homes, and it has joined overnight with the smaller Pumaca Fire. And in the Pumaca... It is now 167 households that are affected in Birch Hill. They are being evacuated this morning.
blaze started on the La Jolla Indian Reservation. Residents asked to go to the Temecula Community Center on Rancho Vista Road in Temecula. In the South Bay, good news in the Harris Fire. This 80,000 acre Harris Fire is about 10% contained. The weather is cooperating and firefighters hope to make good progress on the blaze today. The latest spots threatened there, Del Zura, Deerhorn Valley, and Lions Valley. School officials say all classes and programs canceled until next week and federal courts are Here's an email. Mikey, just a quick note to let you know that the fire forums on Craigslist are very active right now. People are both looking for urgent help as well as people offering shelter for those in need. Could be useful to let other folks know. Thanks, Susan. That's true, and I've heard that. I've heard that Craigslist is like a real good place right now for people to connect. Yep. Just use your best judgment. Yeah. You know, you got to know it's the internet. You can't trust everybody, but, you know, use your best judgment. Back to the Seether dude, Sean Preston. No, Sean Morgan. He's the lead singer of this rock band, Seether, who's really, the band's good. And his girlfriend was Amy Lee. She's about two feet tall. I met her one time.
And she sings for the band Evanescence. And she's a real good singer. In fact, she's, I think, one of the most talented female vocalists around. Too bad they didn't work it out because they probably would have made a real talented baby. But anyway, they did this song together. They sung a duet. It was actually a Seether song that he had on one of their albums, but then they got together and sang this for a movie soundtrack. But the two of them singing together? What movie was it in? Punisher. Oh, yeah. That guy's got a real rock star singer's voice, doesn't he? Yeah. Can you imagine if they had a kid? She's got a great voice. I remember we did this thing, Channel, what was that Channel something? Channel 103? 1049. Channel 1049, when we were in the Bay Area. Eddie was there. We were all there. And it was this real small venue, and Evanescence played, because they weren't big, gigantic stars yet.
It was back in 0203. Yeah, it was back when you'd be like, oh, Evanescence is playing. And people would be like, who's that? What do they sing? And you know me. I had no interest in any band with a chick singing. Right. When it comes to rock music and a chick singing, I'm out. But she got on stage, started singing, and just blew the doors off that place. I was like, holy cow, that girl's real good. This email subject is biggest displacement of people since the Civil War. Hey, Mikey, I heard you talking to B-Dub about having to evacuate. You mentioned you have never heard of so many people having to leave their homes due to an event like this. That is because this is the biggest displacement of Americans since the Civil War. Thought you might want to know. P1 Nick, don't know where he got the information. If it's true, that's pretty amazing. Yeah, it was interesting because when I signed on to CNN this morning at like... Gosh, what was it? It was about 4.30 this morning. The San Diego story was their top story, and they had the picture, and then they had a couple little facts underneath it, and that was one of the facts. And I was like, oh, that's going to be so interesting to talk about. I clicked on the story that was nowhere in the text of the story, and so I'm like, oh, that sucks. So I go back to the front page, and that sentence had been deleted.
So earlier on, CNN was saying that. They're not currently saying it, so I don't know if they were incorrect in saying that or they've just moved on to something else. But that was something that's definitely been said by the media. Interesting. Yeah, it is. I wonder how many people were displaced during Katrina. Knew it was a lot. It's interesting to listen to talk radio and hear them talking about stuff. Yeah, this... I was saying earlier that it was irritating me to hear people calling in yesterday to national talk shows and CNN and say, yeah, the reason that the evacuations are going so smoothly in San Diego is because we're dealing with rich white people instead of poor blacks like it was in Katrina. And one of the guys, I think it was Wolf Blitzer, said, you've got to realize that the conditions are real good at Qualcomm because those people have it together. And when they were dealing with the Superdome in New Orleans,
You couldn't get to the Superdome. The areas around the Superdome were, you know, submerged in water. So you couldn't get to the Superdome. The access to Qualcomm is easy. You could drive in real easy. Not to mention, it's not Mike Brown running the show anymore at FEMA. Right. You know, he was fired by, well, he resigned. In finger quotes, he resigned. Right. Because he was a buddy of George Bush's. gave him this real good job, and he wasn't prepared for it. You're fired. So he was out of there, and he's been replaced by a guy who knows what he's doing. And so, A, they learned from Katrina, and B, right here in San Diego, when the Cedar fires were going on in 2003, they learned from it. And they learned how to do it real good. So what you're seeing right now is a lot of government resources working in harmony.
I mean, as bad as it is, it's going well. Schwarzenegger, everybody from top to bottom has been real cool about everything. And hopefully the efforts will continue after they get these fires out because that's when we're going to really need help. When the fires are out and it's time to help people get their houses back and repair some of this damage because that's when the federal aid will really need quite a bit of. So, yeah, so, sorry, Mike, I should have, I thought another sentence was included in my IM, but basically those numbers I sent you are the estimated evacuation numbers from Hurricane Katrina. So, you know, because that hit multiple states. Now, these are the evacuation states. I can't believe D.C.'s in there. Yeah. But Alabama, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas, all of those accounted for. 222,400 people. Oh, my God. And we are... A quarter of what we're dealing with. Nope. We're very quickly closing in on one million people displaced in San Diego. Oh, man. That's unbelievable. Yeah. Oh. It's going to be one of... The degree of separation between getting evacuated or knowing someone evacuated, one. If that. If that. Go ahead, Ash.
We can do traffic. Maybe one last report. Are you there, Rick? Yeah, Mikey. Rick Lawrence has a traffic update for us. You know what? Not much has changed, but there's been some confusion right now. Somehow, some parts of the media or other people are saying the 67 is open, where people want to go back to see their homes from Ramona. That is not true. We're getting tons of calls on that. I don't know where they're getting the information. Somebody may have let one person in by mistake or whatever, but CHP is reiterating no. The 67 northbound into Ramona is completely shut down still. So I wish I could tell you otherwise, but that's the situation as it stands right now. The 5 freeway, that's still closed, unfortunately, as well on the northbound at the 76 going through Oceanside. So your only access out of town is on the 15. Coming into town from Orange County, though, the southbound 5 is completely open all the way to San Diego County. But if you're getting out to... 15 pretty much your only option here. And you can take that squirrely or take a highway all the way up, you know, into Orange County. Or you can go all the way up. I think you have to go as far as the 91 to actually move westbound from there to get over to where you want to go. Pretty much that's it. We've got West Bernardo Drive off ramps from northbound and southbound 15 still shut down. Wildcat Canyon Road still closed completely from looks as though still from pretty much lakeside I'm looking at here.
Excuse me, all the way up into that area there. South on Wildcat Canyon Road is open, though, for you. The 94 still shut down from Steel Canyon out to just east of Harris Ranch. And we do have a high wind advisory that's still in effect on I-8 from Alpine to the Imperial County line. saying, you know, high-profile vehicles like campers and motorhomes, stuff like that, not recommended for travel along there. They're going to let you through if you really want to do it. You're really not recommended, but hopefully those winds will die down there saying sometime by about noon today, or the travel through there is much safer. And that's about it, Mikey. I'm Rick Lawrence on Rockwood053. Thanks, man. You know, you never know what an effect the fires and the things that are going on will have on kids. Jake is acting weird. Oh, really? Like what? Doing W.C. Fields impressions, walking around the house, drinking strows. I'm just like, bro. Lay off the strows, dude. Well, hey, think of that. Here we go. I love the strows. I love the strows. Whatever. But I want to shoot some pool. I love to play. Wow, you are acting weird. You know what, Dad? You're acting weird. How do you like that? Oh, my gosh.
Where are you keeping the beer? I don't drink, Jake. And how am I drinking the straws? Then get me to the bar, will you? Why does he talk like that? Come on, old man. I know you got some poos around me. I don't think he talks like that. The cat told me so. That's really strange. By the way, thanks, Jules. I mean, he just turned one. Where's the lady of the house? Well, I think her name's Mom. Yeah, Momsy. Yeah, Momsy. Where's Mom? Yeah, where is she anyway? Are we doing WC Fields? I don't even know anymore. I don't feel like we are anymore. Started out that way. Yeah. It's like Jimmy Cagney in there. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I got Sky earlier with the pet one. I mean, twice. And both times you've said it, I've been so concerned. I've been like, oh my gosh, what? What's going on? How's their behavior changed? I say, yeah, the cats are acting real weird. And Jules is acting so strange. This guy goes, what's he doing? He's watching Elvis movies and wearing a grass skirt. P1 Turbo. Mikey. What's going on, man? Hey, you know, Diane Jacobs, you talked a little bit about that yesterday or today. Diane Jacobs came out and talked about looting and said, hey, look, anybody caught looting? Bill Connery mentioned it. We're in a prosecuting to the full extent of the law, three years in prison. Here's the deal. My place of business in Padway...
Just found out right now that it got looted. I couldn't get in there yesterday because the cops were blocking me off. I called the cops today and said, hey, look, my place just got looted. And you know what? They're like, oh, yeah, call back in a couple days. I'm like, hold on a second. I can't file an insurance report. I can't do anything. Take it over the phone. That's not protocol. And what I was trying to explain to this guy, the officer Villalobos, I'd say, look, you guys should at least be taking some sort of cursory... Report over the phone. So you can kind of determine if this looting is really active in certain areas, less active in other areas. If you knew it was really... I'm sorry? I was just saying that's a good point. I didn't even think of that. Right. So if they did that... And what part of town did you say you're in? Well, my place of business is in Poway, Stonebridge Estates. So anyhow, and there's a lot of protocol. I spent 15 minutes on the phone with a guy, him telling me protocol. And I said, look, we could have got this done. I said, you've got tons of cops just directing traffic. That's an important thing. I understand that. But there's two cops out there. They're talking to the CalChance guy for 20 minutes or a half a day about nothing. And these cops don't know anything. Just pick up the phone. Start to take these notes. Somebody... Sorry to cut you off, bro, but I get what you're saying. I would be pissed, too. I would, too. I mean, the cops, they're stretched thin as well. I mean, they're not out there eating donuts and loafing off. I mean, they're handling a lot of stuff. And, you know, I mean, that...
That is brutal. I can't believe people would loot at a time like this. I mean, it's gross. You know, I have real strong feelings and beliefs. Everybody knows that. And I have this feeling about looting. If you loot and you steal things from people who have experienced a tragedy, businesses, private citizens, whatever, whatever it is that you steal, is going to bring evil to you and your family. I'm just telling you that whatever it is that you take, whether it's money, goods, and you sell it and you get money for it, that is going to turn to evil for you and your family. It will bring badness upon you. Yeah, and like this guy was saying yesterday, the San Diego County District Attorney did.
announced that they will prosecute looters to the fullest extent. And they said, you know, anyone caught looting during a state of emergency will be charged with second-degree burglary, which is a felony. Second-degree burns, even. Which is a felony. Wow, you know how to treat that. And you can get up to three years in state prison. Just saying. Karma. Yeah. The fullest right there. The fullest extent of karma. Sean. Spray bottle. We're done. It was a spray bottle. Well, it started with a big gulp cup and then it moved over to the spray bottle. Should we get Leonard Skinner on the line? No, we should not. We can clarify. Actually, she doesn't mind talking about it on the air. Not at all. Not even a little bit. Please, just ten more minutes. Not today. Not today, Eddie. Oh, no. Oh, my God. You're the worst this morning. This is actually the first time I've laughed, like, I don't know, in the past couple days. Hey, sunburns are no laughing matters, Sky. Shut up. Don't laugh at them. P1 Nicole. Hi. What's going on? I just had a quick question. I was wondering if you guys knew if Qualcomm was still doing a blood drive. I knew they were doing one yesterday, but I didn't know if it was still going on today.
That's a good question. Yeah, I haven't heard any information. You know, yesterday it was listed here on, you know, the station wire reports that we get, and it wasn't listed today. I'll look around right now, and if I find anything, I'll let you know. Okay. There you go. Thank you. Thanks. P1 Big C. Yeah, Mikey. What's up? I was just calling about the looting thing in Poway. I live in Poway, just off the Twin Peaks. And they were saying last night that there was a problem up in that area, up behind Palais High and over there. They have the Army National Guard out there. They did last night, anyways. They were checking people's IDs before you could get in there. They're standing out there with M-16s, and they're pretty serious about taking care of that area. I don't know how it is in the rest of Palais, the rest of the Rancho Bernardo area, but back in there by Maderas and by all of that area and Bridalwood. I mean, they were in full force and Humvees and everything out there. Well, that's good, man. I hope they can keep watching that stuff and keep it to a minimum. Thanks, man. I found out the blood drive information. They say that five San Diego blood bank mobiles will be operating at Qualcomm again today, Wednesday, October the 24th, from 10 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. They also want to let people know.
that the two San Diego blood bank donor centers will be closed today due to air quality. So Qualcomm is the place from 10 a.m. to 5.30 today to donate blood. Jim Laslevic is on the inside line with us right now. Hi, Jim. Hey, good morning. Hey, you guys are doing a great job. Thank you, Laz. What were you up to yesterday? Well, the last two days I've gone up to Mira Mesa High School, one of the first evacuation centers. There's not much for a sports guy to do in this time of... when these things are going on. So I was assigned up there. And these are some of the earliest evacuees from Ramona and Rancho Bernardo. And there are 1,300 people. And I think they're getting overlooked a little bit because of the huge crowd at Qualcomm Stadium. But of the 1,300, about 60% are adults, 40% children, lots of dogs and cats. They have plenty of provisions and volunteers. But I think as this continues, they're going to need more and more volunteers. And I think the biggest concern right now are the elderly people who have been there for so long. Most of you guys know about a high school gymnasium at the basketball gym, or it's packed with cots and air mattresses. And maybe you've seen the shots on Channel 7, or have you seen shots at the Qualcomm Stadium? It looks a lot like that, but it's in a gymnasium setting. Then there's a wrestling room around the corner, and that's jammed with some of the older folks, some of the people with medical needs.
The temperature hasn't broken in that neck of the woods. And they could use probably fans, and I think the elderly could use just companions. I think that's what they're going to probably look for today, is somebody who can help them with their meals or just sit and talk or play cards or do something like that. So if you're inclined to volunteer, I know the thought is to go to Qualcomm Stadium, but there are 1,300 people, some in tents, most in the gymnasium, milling around Mara Mesa High School. Well, it's important, man. Get out there, help out in any way you can. Eddie? Yeah, Alas, I know it's not as, you know, obviously anywhere near on the radar of most people, but any word yet on the Chargers and their situation? No, I was over there yesterday when they were getting ready to leave for Phoenix, and I talked to the head coach, and he expressed his concern for what's happening in the county. And, of course, he wants that to be addressed, obviously. But I said, what about your team? He said, well, we haven't practiced since Thursday. And he said, you know, 47 coaches, staff members, or players.
had to be evacuated. So they've been going through the same thing that many of the rest of us have, too. And his concern, first and foremost, was for the people who were affected by this. And then also for the fact that the team hasn't practiced in a long time. And they really don't know what's going to happen. Well, Eddie was saying earlier, and I agree, they're going to have to make a call here real quick on where they're going to play. Well, they just can't come back here for the air quality, I would think. It's not going to be here. There's no way. It's not going to be here. And it might rule out L.A. because if the fires are still burning up there, you can't play at the Coliseum or the Rose Bowl, I would think, and the Phoenix again. My first choice would be the Coliseum because it would be, you know, you drive up there and Charger fans could enjoy a break from all this, but I don't think that's going to happen. Hey, Jim, listen, we appreciate it, man, and thank you for everything you're doing. Well, you guys are really doing a great service. But honestly, if you're thinking about pitching or volunteering, think about some of the smaller facilities in addition to Qualcomm. So maybe if you're out towards Mira Mesa High School, stop by and see if they do need volunteers or provisions. One thing happened. I was walking out, and Tuttle's the Crown was on her way in. That's cool. They've had a real festival feeling down at Qualcomm. It hasn't quite been that way at Mira Mesa. Not as many entertainers and all, but do give some other facilities some thought.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Mira Mesa High School is where it's located. And if you, you know, I was saying that yesterday, there are some people that that is their gift. Their gift is to be able to be people people and really connect and make people laugh in a way, in a one-on-one type of way. I'm not that guy. Like I do much better in a room with my friends behind a microphone. But there are people that are really good with being in front of people and engaging people. And if that's your gift, they need you out there. They need you to be like Jim said. you know, meeting with senior citizens and just would love the companionship and the kids and the families and stuff. So thank you, Jim. We really do appreciate it. You bet. I'll see you. That's Jim Laslavik. Wow. You know, every time I hear Jim, I'm always shocked that he's, you know, he's one of these guys that's got the, he was given a couple of gifts. Guy was able to play football at a professional level. And whenever you hear him on the air,
You're listening to a professional broadcaster. It trips me out. I mean, I'm on the air with him every Sunday on the Chargers pregame show, and he is a pro's pro. I mean, we give each other a hard time, but I sit back and I marvel at that guy. He's a great guy on the air and off. I mean, he doesn't have to go down to the shelters and things like that and donate his time, but he does because he cares about this community, and I give him props for stuff like that, man. He's a good guy. P1, the deputy. Good morning, Mike. How you doing? Good, man. What's up? I just was calling in regards to the other caller. I'm not trying to burst the bell, but, you know, give the law enforcement guys a little bit of a break as far as the looting thing. We've got every agency in the world coming down to help out, and we're running around as much as we can. We're about to spread thin based on the 2,000 fires going on. And, you know, we've got National Guard out here, too. We're working 16, 18-hour days trying to evacuate people and find looters. And, you know, we're doing the best we can, too, man.
Hey, man. Not everyone just sits around drinking coffee and trying to cause problems. Hey, dude. I am with you 150% on that. And, um... You know, we do an open phone thing, so people are allowed to just call in and kind of vent. And so I think you're going to hear some stuff every once in a while. But just know, dude, that most of us, we're all behind you, man. Yeah, obviously that guy was upset because he got his place broken into. And it came from kind of a hurt, angry place. See, because I think that guy gets it too. But like you said, he's speaking out of hurt. Yeah, for sure. I mean, we're supporting everything you guys are doing. I mean, you're doing a kick-ass job. And don't even sweat it, man. No worries. It could be worse. You could have lost the whole place. Oh, for sure. Thank you, man. I appreciate it. We'll see you. Like I said, at 10 o'clock, we're going to turn it over here to Missy. We're going to go back to regular programming.
And it's going to be nice to get things back to normal a little bit, I think. I think people will kind of appreciate maybe listening to some music now a little bit. And you can still tune to Kogo if you want the coverage. They're still covering it 24-7. But some people need a little bit of a break and want to hear some music and some regular routine stuff. And I know Missy will be keeping you up to date, too. Yeah, and they'll be top and the bottom hour updates, as always, as we've been doing here on the regular show. The World Series starts tonight. Wow. 535 first pitch. Yes. Josh Beckett versus Jeff Francis. Wow. Tim Wakefield not going to be in the series. He's got a shoulder injury. As some of you know and some of you don't know, the Rockies and the Red Sox do have a history this season. They played earlier in the season. So they're meeting up for the second time here in the World Series. The first time that they met one another. The Colorado Rockies made short work of them. Wow. Yeah, they did win two out of three. They beat them. Different team. Who cares about that, eh, Rob? That's right. Different team in the postseason. New season. It's a new time. Who cares? Maybe Manny will run to first base this time. What is that, Eddie? Oh, Manny doesn't like to run to first base. You know, even run out ground balls.
He saunters. But he's Manny Ramirez. Yeah, we almost hit a home run and ended up with a single. You know, stuff like that. You got to forgive that, though. Totally. Hey, listen, here's the thing, man. If we win the World Series, okay, great. But if we don't win it, it's not the end of the world, man. Oh, wow. That's not a good attitude. I don't like that comment, but whatever, man. That's a bad attitude. It's like, you know. Don't use the restroom in the Green Monster tonight, okay? That's it. He used to do that. Sky, did you know that? Manny Ramirez. I don't know if you know this. Manny Ramirez is crazy. Very much so. Oh, is he? No, no, no. Very much so. Oh, really? He's a Looney Tune. Like, I know he has said stuff in the past and people go, what? No, he's a Looney Tune. But I didn't know he was, like, a crazy person. Full on Looney Tune. Nice. Okay, like, when you see him, you should be hearing... But he can hit that ball. Like, he's got this crazy hand-eye coordination where he can hit the ball. But he's a lunatic. Local. So this one time, everybody's like, look out into right field. What does he play? He plays left. Left. Look out on left field. Where's Manny Ramirez? During the game. Where's Manny Ramirez? Actually, the game is going on. The game is going on. Where's Manny? Do you know what he did? What?
The green monster at Fenway Park is this big wall, and it's an old place, so it's made of wood. It's this old wall, and there's a door that you can open up and go into the scoreboard. The green monster, you can walk into it. The guys back there actually still hang the numbers for every time you score and all that. Nothing's automated. There's people back there that work. Which is great, huh? Mm-hmm. So you know where Manny was? He had to pee. So he went in the green monster, opened the door on the field, walked in. urinated during the game. Genius. Okay, and I mean, that's crazy enough in itself, but is there actually like a bathroom there or did he just go? No. Not as far as I know, there's no toilet in there. I think there might be one back there. There's a toilet inside of it? I think so. There's people that work back there. Okay, so he wasn't just urinating on the ground. Who cares? That's not the important part. But it would be crazier if he, you know, it would be extra special crazy. No, not really. It's pretty nuts. I don't think he can make it crazier than walking in the middle of a game. Anyway, you slice it. It's nuts. Come on, it was affecting his concentration. That's right. I know how that can be. It didn't affect his personal life. No, it didn't.
We're K-I-O-Z San Diego. Hit it. K-I-O-Z San Diego. Hit it. It's K-I-O-Z San Diego. Hit it. I say hit it. It's K-I-O-Z San Diego. I say hit it. That's your cue. No, dude. Sean, that's you. It's K-I-O-Z San Diego. K-I-O-Z San Diego. Hit it, Sean. You need to hit it. Sean. All pandas hit it. Oh, really? Uh-oh. Uh-oh. But everyone was talking. Why did everyone get quiet when I say the one thing? I think it's just the end of that. You're dead. Uh-oh. Come on. It's K-I-O-Z San Diego. Oh, no. We're sorry. We're sorry for Sky. I have paws. I can't do it. You can't do it with your paws. Touch screen. Just put your paws up to the screen. And we'll be saving that clip. Oh, no. I don't want to, but I will. And we'll be saving that one. Thank you, Sean. Sean, Sean. Write it down. He's so mad right now. Sean, Sean. It's K-I-O-Z. Screw you. See you tomorrow morning at 530 late.
