Tom Brady's marriage, a prehistoric whale beneath downtown San Diego, T.I.'s prison-bound repentance, Facebook's growth, and several awkward or contentious debates give the first part of the show its comic and argumentative energy. The centerpiece is John Silverwood's account of the Black Wave shipwreck, in which a falling mast crushed his leg, his son Ben improvised a lifesaving tourniquet, and a message in a bottle brought Polynesian rescuers. John explains that he survived extreme blood loss, repeated amputations, and dialysis before learning to walk with a prosthesis and returning to sailing. Mikey closes by connecting John's survival and family unity to his own recovery from alcoholism, arguing that faith in God gave him durable hope.
What happened, in order
Tom Brady gets married
The hosts report that Tom Brady married Giselle in a small Santa Monica ceremony, then tease Boston Rob over his devotion to Brady and the couple's Dolce & Gabbana-clad dogs.
Prehistoric downtown
The crew marvels that workers at an East Village construction site found a roughly 600,000-year-old whale beneath mammoth remains and jokes about the two animals fighting in ancient San Diego.
T.I. faces prison
Ashley and the hosts discuss T.I.'s guilty plea over machine guns and silencers, arguing that his music and outreach show genuine repentance even though he accepts that punishment is due.
Porn on a used computer
A father named Terry Harvey says a store sold him a used computer for his sixth-grade daughter that still contained pornographic images, prompting an argument about lawsuits and securely erasing personal data.
Facebook takes over
The hosts react to 24-year-old Mark Zuckerberg's reported $1.5 billion fortune and Facebook's explosive growth while questioning whether the company should retain users' photos and information after account deletion.
Waiting on an ex
P1 Kevin writes that he unexpectedly served his ex-girlfriend and her new date, and the hosts argue that his insistence that he has no feelings left is undermined by how much the encounter bothered him.
Santelli gets called out
After Rick Santelli attacks mortgage relief as subsidizing losers, Matt Lauer presses him on why a White House response naming him should count as a threat rather than ordinary political pushback.
The Black Wave shipwreck
John Silverwood recounts how his family's 55-foot catamaran struck a reef near Tahiti and an eight-story mast crashed onto him as waves repeatedly submerged his head.
Ben saves his father
Sixteen-year-old Ben Silverwood improvises a tourniquet with rope and screwdrivers after his father loses nearly three-quarters of his blood, then takes command of the family's survival effort.
A message in a bottle
After the family gets John onto a reef, a search plane drops a bottled note that reaches a Polynesian father and his four sons, who travel out by boat to rescue them.
Amputation and return
John says he finally felt safe beneath the operating-room lights, survived multiple amputations and dialysis, learned to walk on a prosthesis, returned to sailing, and later reunited with helicopter pilot Yvonne.
Mikey's recovery
Mikey describes isolating himself while drinking toward death and says surrendering to God and Jesus Christ gave him lasting hope that alcohol, drugs, possessions, and other people never could.

and call us at 570-1053 and get in on the open phone. Five people on the show. Myself, Eddie Sky, Ashley, and Boston Rob, and it's Friday. I'm so stoked. I'm so stoked that we have two-day weekend. You can also text us if you want to. Our text number, or excuse me, our text address is textmikey at gmail.com. Put it in your phone. Text Mikey at gmail.com. Love to hear from you. Get in on the phone lines right now. There is stories that we need to talk about. First of all, Sky. Yes. Tell the world what the word on the street is about Tom Brady. Whoa. Well, Robbie, my friend. Robbie O'Shades from Boston. I'm sorry to tell you.
He's not a patriot anymore. Don't you dare. Don't you dare. Tom Brady is officially off the market. He got married last night to his supermodel girlfriend, Giselle. Oh, no. He obviously didn't pay attention to any of my love letters. That's right. It's got to be heartbreaking for you. Yeah, they reportedly got married in a very small, intimate ceremony with just a small group of family and friends at a Catholic church in Santa Monica. Oh, in Los Angeles. Yeah. Tom's one-year-old son was there, but the baby's mama, Bridget Moynihan, she was not there. Why would she be there? I don't know. I don't know. I'm just saying it. Invite the ex-girlfriend. Sometimes they're still friends. Who knows? I don't know. So his one-year-old son was there.
And they say the ceremony began at dusk, and it was very small and intimate. And Giselle wore a Dolce & Gabbana gown. That's what I wore. That was form-fitting with ivory lace. It was strapless with a trumpet skirt, and it had a long train and a floor-length veil. And you'd also like to know that Giselle's three dogs were there as well for the ceremony, and they were also outfitted in Dolce & Gabbana. See, now this is one of four. 4,000 different ways that Tom Brady and I are different. What? You wouldn't have your cats all dressed up in Dolce & Gabbana? No, no. What I was saying was I would not be attracted to and be spending the rest of my life with a woman who would have three dogs dressed up at our wedding. Thank you. That's weird. That would not be the woman of my dreams. No way. Yeah, so they say after the wedding, everybody went back to the couple's home in Brentwood for a small reception. Let's see. P1 Tom just sent us a text message, text to Mikey at gmail.com that says, was Tom Brady wearing a leash and choke collar during the ceremony? Since that's what I think his normal wear is.
What? Was he carrying a purse? Was he carrying a purse? It's a merse. It's a merse. A man purse. This is how much Boston Rob, it's in the name, Boston Rob, loves those patriots, loves Tom Brady. Here's just a sample of his affection for Tom Brady. This is so uncomfortable. It is. This one's going out to Tom terrific. Weird. You're the best. This is when you still thought you had a shot. Or cleft. Shin's wicked awesome. Pass me all your balls. On the field. Y'all compete with Ted Dansons. Who? Just hit me in the spot. Is that gay? Yes. Answer is yes. Braid air. You have great protection. It dinged.
The end zone. It is. You make. I could get off your lap. So many. That's what I was thinking. That's what it is. Go wide. Love to catch your throw. Good look. Touchdown pass. You had 50 touchdown passes there? I don't remember. Wicked awesome. Finish folks. Super bowl shot. crush. All I'm saying is I'd have this guy's kid. This guy goes to the Super Bowl about as often as I go to jail. He's the greatest quarterback in the history of quarterbacks. He should be Times Man of the Year. He should get a Nobel Peace Prize. This guy's got three rings. He's going on four. It's Tom. Thank you, Tom. Terrific. Calm down. They got a little worked up. A little bit.
He really likes Tom Brady, doesn't he? Yeah. He really, really does. So what are your feelings about Giselle? I don't know much about her. Is she the right woman for your man? I can't picture her. I know she's a model, and she's very tall and beautiful, obviously. Very tall and thin. But I wish I knew more about her as a person, because, you know, you've got to approve of your boys. But the rap on her is that Tom's basically like her manservant. Oh, really? Oh, that's the route. Yeah, that's kind of what I've heard. That's why the guy wrote the message about the collar and the leash. Yeah, because he's always carrying her purse and shopping for her. Get out. No, he's not. He's a gentleman. He's a gentleman. No, no, no, dude. Carrying your wife's purse, I don't think, makes you gentlemanly. Chivalry is not dead in his household. Wow. And I respect that. Well, her dogs were at the wedding. Can I ask you a question, Rob? Would you be... Okay. That's fair. That's fair. I believe that that's fair. You know what? What? All right, you're going to let me ask? Yeah. I want you to answer honestly. Okay. Are you a carry my gal's purse type of guy? No, and... I don't believe that. But I am, you know, if she's like, here, will you hold this for a second? And it gets very uncomfortable. Me too. I'm holding a purse. I'm holding a purse. I'm holding a purse. Is everyone looking at me? Yeah. And I say that out loud.
Well, that's what makes it awkward. I'll do that. I'll do that. Well, what would there ever be a reason for you to carry her purse? Because it matches. That was once. We were in PB. Maybe she's walking her three dogs dressed in little outfits. She can't really do it. Hey, P1 Johnny, are you there? Yeah, I'm here. Go ahead. Hey, you're giving my boy Rob some slack on that song, man. He owned it. Yeah, he really did. I really did. He owned it. You got to give him props for that. Yeah, there's no doubt about it. He really got in there and explored the space. Okay. And he's got a good voice. Oh, well, thank you, sir. For sure. I'll sing it to you later. All right, thanks. Oh, man. This text message, text Mikey at gmail.com says, why doesn't Rob write a song about the starter, Matt Castle? Oh, snap. That's a good thing. We've got two starters on a team. How can you have two starters? Eddie, I told you this a couple weeks ago. It doesn't make sense. When that happens, it's awesome. You should know about two first place. We're both right. Come on. That's right.
Please. This year, the Patriots are going to run with a two-quarterback offense. Yeah. That's not true. Oh, yes, it is. Okay. See how that works out. That's weird, man. Let's see. This text message says, Hey, Mikey, can you please give my warmest thanks to Eddie and Ashley for adding me on Facebook? My wife and I were looking for Skye but haven't found her. Please ask her to add an account. We'd love to say hi. Oh, Skye, listen to that. Email at skyatkoz.com. Drop me an email anytime you want. It's not the same, Sky. They want to write on your wall. I'd love to hear from you over email. They want to give opinions on your status updates. If you put your status update, they want to tell you. My status is fine. Also, want to welcome to the studio P1 1842, who won the trivia. He won Mikey Show trivia. What's happening? I don't know what's happening. What's happening? 1842. I don't know what you guys are talking about. Pilgrim sailed the ocean blue. What's happening here? I don't know. Oh, wait a second. Isn't that... Shut up, Mike. Here it comes, Mike. The year that Skye thought that the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock.
It could have been. And a hundred years later, the civil rights movement. That's right. We move fast here in America. Very nice. We don't mess around. Also in the studio with us today is P1 Babe. Hi, babe. How are you doing? And she did not win P1 Trivia, but did very well. And so she is in the studio with us today. And also a friend of ours, P1 Shelby, is in the studio. Hello, Shelby. And her husband is a really cool dude and did a favor for a friend of mine that he didn't even know. And my friend needed this favor and I couldn't do it. Was it something with like fixing things? It was something with storing. Oh, I see what Sky was... I'm thinking of things that Mike can't do. I'm thinking it must have been like a handyman. I'm not much of a handyman. I see where she was going. Her husband, Matt, is a really cool guy. They housed a freezer. Was it a freezer, Shelby? A washer and dryer. It was an appliance. We didn't have room for it.
Anytime anyone needs a store washer and dryer. Rob, they're not for use. I got the hookups at my house. You can store it there as long as you want. That's weird. Let me tell you an interesting fact about Shelby. Shelby is an identical twin. What is your twin thinking right now? That's right. What? See? I bet she's right. Dude, that's crazy. I'll bet she's right. How do we know that Shelby's not the twin? Didn't even think of that. Let's see. 570-1053 is our phone number. And if you'd like to text us, you can do that too. Our text address is textmikey at gmail.com. They have found prehistoric whale bones downtown. Downtown's awesome. Dude, downtown is crazy. It's littered. It's like Jurassic Park over there. It is. It's littered with old bones. Wasn't it a couple weeks ago that they found the mammoth bones there? Yeah, and this is the exact same site. Yeah, it's the same. Maybe they fought. Yeah, dude. Maybe they fought. A whale and a mammoth. Yeah. A land animal and a wild. I wasn't around back then. I don't know how things work.
They're fighting, Eddie. They're fighting. Well, so this construction site is in the East Village. It's at 11th and Island. And basically earlier in the month, crews working there found mammoth bones, two tusks, foot, skull. They said for about 500,000 years ago. And so they, you know, preserved everything, got everything out real nice to go in the museum and then continued their construction project. Well, about 10 feet below where the mammoth bones were, they found bones from a whale that they believe are about 600,000 years old. Oh, my gosh. Yeah, a prehistoric whale, a shoulder blade, a neck bone, and an upper spine. They believe that the whale could have been about 40 feet long. Oh.
Yeah, they say this whale is the first. I'll catch him and kill him. That's right. That's right, you will. They say this whale is the first of its geological age to be found not only in San Diego County, but it's the second to be found in all of Southern California from that time. Wow. That's crazy, man. $10,000 for me by myself. For that, you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing. That's right. That's so cool. But I don't understand, like, how would the whale be underneath the thing? Well, if it was 100,000 years after the mammoth was there, it was probably water. Could have been underwater. And then there's no water. That part of this village. No water. That's right. And by the way, we found out that these whale bones and mammoth bones existed.
before the East Village existed. Are you sure? That's what they're saying. What about the gas lamp? Gas lamp's old. They have those old lights. The field was there. I know that restaurant, the field was there. That's where the whale's favorite spot was. That's right. They were both there. That and Hooters. Hooters have existed forever. P1 Hendrix. What's up? Hey. I'm just calling because I think I saw the lady that you saw yesterday at the Ralph's parking lot, wasn't it? Who offered it? Who wanted you to take her for a ride for $10? Yeah. No, it wasn't at Ralph's. It was at Vaughn's, wasn't it? It was at Vaughn's? Yeah. Well, it was at Ralph's where I was. I think I saw her in Chula Vista last night. And she was asking for a ride? Oh, is that near National City? It actually is. Yes, it is. She made it. But now she needs to come back. She asked you for a ride, too? Oh, no. I think I saw her dog, though. I think there was a security officer outside telling her that she couldn't be there. She was a big set lady. She had something like a Husky or a German Shepherd with her. Nah, she had like one of those tiny dogs that you hold in your hand. Hey, man, what made you think it was the same lady that Rob was talking about? I don't know. She just seemed to fit the description. I didn't know about the dog, though.
Yeah, I would say that, you know, every heavyset lady is not necessarily the one that asked Rob for a ride to the National City. Well, if you see a heavyset lady with a dog getting in trouble at a grocery store parking lot. I miss the part about the dog. I didn't realize she had a dog. Yeah, Rob said she had a dog. Yeah, she was holding a dog. Yeah, I miss that detail. Yeah. Maybe it's the same lady. It's a new dog. Mm-hmm. This man will now be walking up to heavyset women walking their dogs. Offering her... Need to ride, ladies? Need to ride to National City. Don't move my couch. That could be. Hey, thanks, brother. I appreciate it, dude. All right, man. Thanks. It's P1 Flady Hunter on the line. You there, bro? Yeah, how you doing, Mike? What's going on, dude? Not much. Quick question for the Oracle. I just wanted to know what he thought the chances of the Cowboys signing Ray Lewis was. Well, I don't know. You know, I mean, I think Ray wants to stay with Baltimore. I think that's his ultimate goal. Well, he leads their defense. Show me! What would they do without him? Say that again? No, what did he say?
He came up to him like two or three times and pointed at his helmet at the star and said that's what he wants. Really? That's what D. Ware said on Total Access the other day. Interesting. I know he told the Ravens, you know, hey, listen, it's a fair market out there, and if you guys are willing to pay the... Show me the man! Okay, okay. Ray. Was that Ray? I think that might have been Ray. Show me! Slow down, buddy. You'll get yours. That would be interesting, though. I hope he doesn't sign with the Cowboys because I hate the Cowboys. I hate the Cowboys. I hate the Cowboys. I hate the Cowboys. I hate the Cowboys. I hate the Cowboys. Eddie, how do you feel about this? I hate the Cowboys. But you're a journalist. You're supposed to be fair and impartial. I am. I hate the Cowboys. I think that says it. I think he's really helped that defense, helping them line up. Absolutely. Thank you. It might fix the problem. But there's one... That and getting rid of T.O. Oh. Are you a Cowboys fan? Yeah, I'm a Cowboys fan. You don't like T.O.? I like him as a player, but not his personality. Not as a friend. I think he's a leader of the team. As a babysitter. And I don't think he's a good leader for a team. Well, he's definitely not that. He's all about himself. That is true. Thanks, dude. I appreciate the phone call, brother.
All righty, thank you. Take it easy, guys. Thank you very much. This text message at textmikey at gmail.com says, Eddie, I wonder if those whale bones were an ancient black and white. Oh, no. That's what I was wondering. Jenner, will you ever go downtown again? I think that's what probably happened to the dinosaurs. Even from 10,000 years, they were able to do it. But again, the dinosaurs are on land. That's what rascals are. The whales are in the water. They're killers, man. Can't be safe. You can never be too safe. Eddie wears black and white repellent all the time. That's really weird. That's called land. That's right. It's called land. I don't go in the ocean. That's right. Or SeaWorld. Well, for those of you that don't know, Eddie does not like killer whales. Does not like. Okay, Eddie. I despise them. Despises them. He's petrified. I think they should all be harping. He cries at the sight of it. He does have a fear. of said killer whales. And so he will not get in the ocean because he believes, and might I say,
I think rather unrealistically that they're here in San Diego. Thank you, Mike. They've been spotted off of Point Loma many times. Yeah, way out there, just migrating. Not eating people, just migrating, bro. I don't know the surfers. They're migrating, bro. No, I don't even know what that means. I haven't heard of a bather necessarily here in San Diego, you know. Or anywhere, really. A bather, you know. What's that? Somebody going into the ocean for... To bathe? Well, not to bathe, but, you know, like what I'm saying, you know, I'm saying people... Yeah, who would do that? Terminology. Oh, man. That's stupid. Oh, no. That means Rob's done that. That means Rob's done it a lot. Salt water's good for the skin. You're so weird. Don't drop the soap. This text message says, Oracle. What? Albert Hainsworth. Oh. Signed a... Save it. Oh, is it coming up? Is it coming up? I will not. I'll be giving away my secrets. I will not say it. Secrets. I will not say it. Albert Hainsworth something. Huge. Is it big? Oh, it's big. He's a good football player. Yeah, when he wants to be. Oh, no. Is it that deal? Yeah, you know, I like Albert Hainsworth, but sometimes I feel like, you know, he'll take plays off and he kind of plays when he wants to play. Randy Moss does that, eh, Rob? Yeah. No, Randy Moss doesn't. Yes.
He's the king of it. He infected it. 110% of the time. Wow. You leave Randy alone. Garbage. But he does, Eddie. He takes some plays off? I think so. I think so. And he's kind of injury prone, too. You know, he's such a big guy. It's kind of hard. When you're that big, your legs tend to give out. But, I mean, he's great when he wants to be. I've lived with that for years. Okay. So dumb. That's all I'm trying to say. Well, that's coming up in the sports dirt. Yeah. We'll be mentioning that in the sports, Bert, pretty soon. 31 suspects were arrested. Gwen Sky, yesterday up in North County? Yeah, most of them were arrested yesterday, but it was all part of a six-month undercover operation. Really? North County? Yeah, North County. Most of them are drug dealers, some gang members as well. Some of the drug dealers were also gang members. Allegedly. Allegedly, most of them belong to the Crips. The undercover operation was called Operation Rock Solid.
I always love the titles. Who's the guy who gets to come up with the titles? That's a really good question. I would love for the actual author of Operation Rock Solid to call us and be like, hey dude, that was actually me. I'm Rock Solid. I know in some cases they got a show called Undercover on... I think it's National Geographic Channel, which is awesome. It does cases from the 80s and 90s that were years and years of setting up people and infiltrating the Hells Angels or the Mongols or just different cartels and stuff. And sometimes they'll take an abstract phrase that someone will use in something and apply it to the name. Who gets to do it, do they say? Is it like a lieutenant? Is it the... Chief of police. I think it's whoever's heading that sting will dub it.
you know, something appropriately that... It's pretty cool. Well, I also know there's a show on DIY called Rock Solid where they actually work with rocks. They actually work with rocks. They'll build like a fireplace around or maybe a walkway or a patio. Well, it makes sense. I know it does. It actually doesn't make sense. It doesn't make sense. Great show. So, most of the 31 suspects were taken into custody early yesterday morning in Oceanside. A few of them were also arrested in Escondido. During the raid, they seized one handgun, two cars, 500 ecstasy pills, a half pound of crack cocaine, some marijuana, and a small amount of meth. That's really nice. It doesn't sound like that much. How much did they get? So there's still another 13 people who they wanted to arrest yesterday but are still at large. No. You just said it. You're a little late on that. And then you said it. Yeah. There it is. So there you go. President Obama is going to announce a new Iraq strategy today. What?
Yeah, now we talked about it earlier in the week because, you know, the news had kind of leaked out about what his new strategy was going to be. And this is what we talked about earlier in the week about getting most of the American troops out of Iraq by 2010, still leaving between 35,000 and 50,000 in Iraq to help train Iraqi forces and protect U.S. interests. Of course, that's what... That's what McCain had suggested. In fact, McCain suggested that we keep those forces there for years and years and years. Very foolishly, very foolishly told the truth. Well, McCain heard it badly, which made him look bad. Well, he said a hundred years, which is what we're doing in places like Japan. We've still got forces in Japan. Yeah, but when McCain said it, he said, you know, I'd leave troops there, you know, for 100 years. But what he should have said is I would leave a small amount of troops there. See how you can misinterpret what he said. And that's why people were like, what? Oh, my gosh. Oh, my gosh. Yeah, he explained it. He explained what he meant. Nobody understood it. Well, no, people understood it. But, boy, I'll tell you the press.
They run with it. He's old. They run with it. It's true. He's older than that, actually. Obama's supposed to make the formal announcement of this strategy today at the Marine Corps base at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Thank you, Mikey. You're welcome, Mr. McCain. Thank you, Mr. McCain. Let's see. How much do you guys think GM lost? Because GM, the car company, they are really... Complaining. And how much do you think they lost? If I had to give you, if I were to give you a hint and say, the amount is in billions. Billions? Billions. That's a lot. I can't imagine it being more than five. Well, they are going to exceed your expectations, Eddie. What? A thousand billion. A thousand billion? No way. A dizillion billion? Sky?
How much did GM reportedly lose in 2008? Just under $31 billion. Oh, my gosh. That's a lot. Come on. A lot of money. They lost it, so they drop it somewhere? No. You better look for it. They lost it in Las Vegas in one of their retreats. Yes, exactly. They lost it on spas. Yeah, so of course, they are saying they need more government money if they want to continue operating. And if they want to continue hot rock treatments. Yeah. Those are so nice, though. They put the rocks on you. They feel so good. Relaxing. On the filet dinner. That's nice. Delicious. A little surf and turf, maybe? Oh, come on now. That's nice. Come on now. A little surf and turf. Make that happen. It's like they just found downtown. A little surf and turf. So GM is saying that their auditors are reviewing whether they can go on and that they're growing concerned about the future. Yeah. Duh. You think? Do you guys know that someone named Taylor Swift is a...
big, gigantic star in our world. I love Taylor Swift. She's 11 years old. About an 11-year-old girl, from what I understand. How old is she? 19. Does she do a Double Mint commercial? No, that is Chris Brown. I think it's Juicy Fruit. That's her? She's got a great commercial. Gum companies are really getting on those young audiences, right? I love them. Great song, Mike. Taylor Swift may be one of my brother Steve's favorite artists, which I find a little bit, you know, creepy. That's so comfortable. Country music, so that would be the answer to that one. Now, what are you going to do? Now, we have a show. We have a show today. First of all, you know that CBS TV show called 48 Hours? They're doing kind of a series right now called... Live to tell. Yep. Oh, ominous. One of the stories is about a guy from San Diego. Yep. That guy. Say it again. He lives in RV. He does? Okay, so this guy's name is John Silverwood. And his story is going to be featured this weekend. We'll be in our studios today. It's crazy.
Crazy story. Beyond a crazy story. And he will be in our studios today. An El Camino High School teacher has been put on administrative leave. And I will tell you why. When we come back, Pablo Francisco in the stand-up spotlight. The Mikey Show stand-up spotlight from 5-3. Musicals don't really happen in real life. That's why I don't like them too much. You know, like you're really hanging out with your friends and music comes out of nowhere and your friends start dancing. Let's go! You suck. You're hanging out with your buddies. Hey, can I come to the party, man? Hey, man, Bubby, you can't come, man. You got Drunken Freddy's out this week, man. You're a street rat. Street rat. Riff raff. I don't buy that. If only they look closer. Would they see a poor boy? No siree. Hey, shut up. You shut up! Come on, Abu. Your friends, hey, Pablo, what'd you do last summer? Oh, you know I met a girl named Sandy. All right. All your friends go, oh, no. Mikey's show continues. Thank you for being big enough to laugh at yourself this morning.

You are seeing the usual slowdown developed, though, out of Escondido and the South 15 now off to 78 down to Via Rancho Parkway. Other than that, the first of our freeways are moving right along. A little bit of fog out there to deal with here this morning. It is awfully thick in some areas, so be careful. In fact, the fog advisory affects through the mountains along I-8 and Crestwood. So definitely use some caution out there. Board of Wait is still over an hour at San Ysidro. I'm Rick Lawrence on Rock 105 Free. Mikey. I text a lot, but I'm the farthest thing from him. Eddie. I got to tell you.
Like, the older I get, the more and more I've become into, like, history stuff. Sky. Um, you know, your friend's a little sensitive and isn't a big fan of violence. Boston Rob. I watch a lot of Food Network lately, and it's mostly because of you. And Ashley. Like, I love my bangs, and they grow out so freaking fast. Save that clip. I know. Save that clip. The Mikey Show's on. Rock 105.3. Did I not do that? I was supposed to do the 360 thing there, right? And Shauna is going to do that for me pretty soon. I talked to her about it yesterday. So ETA should be by May, early May. Now, with what's up in your world, this is the Mikey Show 360. El Camino High School. Oceanside's guy? What happened? Well, it's pretty cool. My husband...
You know how I told you he's, like, so into cars lately. Like, everything is about cars. We have to watch every show on television about cars. Everything's about cars. So he's been all up in my business because, gosh, he's still asleep. So hopefully this is cool to say. Basically, he talks to me about cars, and I totally tune him out. Wow, that probably should not be said on radio. It's rude. Unnecessary. It's rude, but I can't handle it anymore. Like, really, like, he's obsessed. He does this. He obsesses on me. Can we please talk about something I like, like money? Whatever. Tell me about the new five. I love the death, but I can only hear about Samba.com so many times. What? Yeah, like, the other day he was talking about driving to Arizona to pick up magazines. I'm like, what? Why? Why? Why? Because somebody has VW. magazines dating back to the 80s. Oh, he is set on that bug. You should tell him about this thing called eBay. Well, no, he said it would be cheaper to drive to Arizona than to pay all the shipping on that many magazines because it's like so many would be so heavy. What's he going to do with them? He's starting a library, guys.
Dude, is he going to sit Indian style in a room with all these magazines around him? And nothing else. And nothing else. Yeah. Whatever. So anyway, so he's all into auto. So he's been talking to me about this new show on the Speed Channel called Drag Race High. And I guess I think they've aired two episodes so far. And basically what it does is it takes El Camino High School in Oceanside and pits their auto class against Ramona High's auto class. Awesome. build souped-up drag race cars, and then at the end of the series, professional drag racers will race the cars against each other to see who's built the better car. Really? Yeah. Yeah, so he's talking to me about all the shenanigans happening on this. Well, the story just came out that the auto shop instructor from El Camino High in Oceanside has been put on administrative leave due to his behavior in this reality show. Really? Yeah, I guess in the first episode of the show, the El Camino High class, including the instructor under, you know, the way I'm understanding it, went to the Ramona High's automatic.
motive department, I don't know if it's like the middle of the night or the weekend or whatever, and threw eggs at the door. And then my husband was telling me, I didn't read this, but my husband was telling me that there was a part where they went and they took chalk and drew like people doing indecent things with like farm animals and stuff. Are you kidding? And he like was in charge? I guess so, yeah. And so, I mean, I don't know if it was like his plan, but they say, you know, it's covered in the reality show, like, you know. We had to have awareness of what was going on. And then there was a night after filming that some of the kids from El Camino High took their cars out on the El Camino High football field and were, like, driving around on the football field causing all this damage and stuff. Some people were, like, arrested. So, yeah, so the teacher from the El Camino High auto shop instructor has been put on administrative leave and they're trying to figure out what to do. Like, do we punish him? Do we fire him? What about the show? Oh, the show? I think the show's still going on. I think it's taped already. I'm not sure. It's my understanding from what I read that it's like, you know, already filmed. I think so. Oh, dude. Yeah, you can't. I mean, you can't do that. And do they have like, was this?
Like, this was on the show? Like, them doing all these ads? Well, yeah, because I read this story last night, and I mentioned to my husband about the egging, and then my husband was the one who was telling me about the farm animals. And he's only watched the show. He never read about it, so he said he saw this on the show. I bet the administrators found out the same way, obviously. They were probably watching it, and their jaws are dropping open. What are you doing? Yeah, so, I mean, which, you know, is, like, such a cool thing for the kids involved in the show, and it sucks to bring this, like, negative slant to the whole thing. You know, that's pretty brutal. I wonder who's going to take you over. I have no idea. I'll do it. No, you won't. There you go. No? Yeah, okay. Rob, do you know anything about cars? Nah, not too much. I've learned through the years. I was going to steal them. Yeah, Mike, I know how to hotwire them. I can start it with a screwdriver. Yeah, I know how to do that. Ever heard of a Slim Jim? My gosh. Well, that is a crazy story. Fox has renewed The Simpsons for two more seasons. Yes. Now, that actually has some significance, right, Skye? Yeah, it is now making history because this will make The Simpsons.
the longest-running TV show in the history of television. Whoa. Yeah, so these two more seasons will bring The Simpsons to a 22-season total. So... What did it be? Oh, wait. What? What did it be? Gunsmoke. Are you serious? Yeah. Ashley, do you do any voices from The Simpsons? Ashley's a master of voices. No. No, no, she does all kinds of voices, bro. They're terrible. They have a really good one, I do. Do you have a Simpsons voice that you do? Yeah? Homer? What do you got? That was really good. You know what that was, Eddie? No, I don't. Did she burp? No, no, no. It was Homer Simpson. She was doing it dead on. That was really good. She did it, dude. She just did it. Maybe do it one more time. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, come on. That was really good. That was really good. And this is a piece in work, so. Yeah, it is a piece in work. Give it a piece in work. It's a piece in work. We know what it is. We know what it is. We know what it is. 5701053. Do people still watch The Simpsons? Dude, I've never seen it. I've never seen it, but I know everybody loves it. I know everybody loves it, but I've never seen it. It's still good, but it's kind of lost that love and feeling. Love and feeling. How'd you know? It really has. It's a song about it, Rob. Okay. You know what else I wanted to tell you about? CBS also, speaking of TV.
CBS also ordered two more seasons of Survivor. Yeah. Keep them coming. You love Survivor. You down with it? Yep. Last every season. Now they're doing it in high def, which I can't believe it took this long. I've never seen an episode. For real? What's wrong with both of you? I know. I'm stupid for The Simpsons. That's pretty weird that you haven't seen Survivor. It's a really good show. That was great. Yeah, I'm so excited. Two more seasons. I can watch that show forever. It's so good. So good. Girl from San Diego on there this year. Oh, snap. From Cardiff. Is she any good? She's doing okay. Is that the hot blonde? Yeah, the hot blonde. I think her name's Sydney or something. Yeah, she's cute. Yeah, she's keeping a low profile, but for the previews for next week, they said she liked... Picks up her flirty quota, you know, starts flirting as part of her strategy. So sometimes that can work against people. We'll see. When they get flirty? Yeah, you know, because sometimes, you know, people are like, I see what they're doing. They're so transparent. And then other times people like fall in love and, you know. Yeah, Boston Rob and Amber. Yeah, I remember that. Remember that? It works out awesome.
A stick of peanut butter and we won the game. A stick of peanut butter. You ever have one of those? From the peanut butter tree. They're really good. I've seen that before. T.I. is going to jail. For what? What did he do? I don't know. I think it's related to gun charges. Something within that spectrum. So they were interviewing him. And T.I.'s fans are rooting for him too. Hey, T.I., are you scared about going to jail? I'm not thrilled about it. Nothing that time can heal. What kind of personal items are you going to take to jail with you? Bible, pen, pad. Dude, he has become one of my favorite people that's, you know, out there. He's got a new reality show. Yeah. Which, it's like a countdown. Yeah. To, you know, him. To jail? T.I.'s road to redemption. Yeah. And each episode, the first one was 45 days. The last one was like 38 days.
And he's basically going back into the hood and finding people that are in bad situations and trying to change their life. Yeah, they say that he pled guilty to illegal possession of three machine guns and two silencers. Holy cow. Why do you need those things, Rob? But the thing is, hold on, hold on, hold on. I'm judging him. Why do you need those things? And I totally got that. I bought his album, and his album explains everything. in the show he kind of goes over it his best friend was killed like people that have not been caught pulled up next to him just unloaded into his car you know killed his best friend they were trying to kill him so he was carrying you know he had weapons for protection he has like six kids um and is this ti is this ti ti pain but ti is everywhere in terms of like He's the one that did the song with Rihanna. Umbrella. Umbrella, I like that. Yeah, my life. Why didn't he invest that money in a bulletproof car and bulletproof vest? And you know what? And you know what? You know how it is in the hood. I don't know. This guy does not. It's a sad situation, but I think he's just got like a year and a day, and then he'll be out. But, I mean, the thing that's incredible is... He's going to jail for a year? Yeah. Wow.
Is he turning his life around at all? Dude, completely. You've got to listen to the album. And, dude, he goes in there. He's really into the Bible now. And I know he's saved. And at the end of one of his songs, it's so powerful because he's kind of flowing. And he says, people keep asking me how I deal with my everyday struggles and how I deal with going to jail. And he goes, I let go and I let God deal with it. And it's just like the stuff he says, man, he's on another level. His songs are so deep. My thing that I always say is all of us are going to make mistakes. What do you do after you make the mistake? How do you respond to it? He is the perfect example for being human to be able to turn stuff around. His show is awesome, man. And, you know, it's people, it's young kids that are, you know, trying to get up and gangbanging or drug dealing, you know, and they're trying to do it. And they're in a conflict of interest because the first episode, this kid was drug dealing, but he was doing it and giving money to his mom and, you know, turning her heat on. And, you know, so it wasn't like he was doing things maliciously. And that's what T.I. says, you know, like he committed a crime, but his crime wasn't to be malicious, you know. It was protection for him and his family. Does he still recognize that?
That's wrong and you shouldn't do that? And he even says that in his songs. He's like, you know, I got to be punished. This is my punishment. He took a plea bargain. Give me a T.I. song, Ash. Do the Rihanna one. The Rihanna one. That's the one that you love, Mike, and he starts off. Where is it? I don't have it loaded, but it's my life. Can you load it for me? In the beginning, he says, you know, you got to start being thankful for what you have. It'll be a couple minutes. You're doing something. You got something that you can't do it? No, I can do it. It'll be a couple minutes. Go load it. Go load it. I want to hear what his music sounds like. Yeah. I remember when you first heard it the first time, you were kind of stopped in your tracks. You were like, who is that? That's cool. Really? Yeah. Because in the beginning, he talks about, you know, stop thinking about the things you don't have and focus on the things that you do have. And is that the sort of changed T.I. album? Or is that back in the old days, this song that we're talking? Because that sounds good to me. This song, My Life, is like... number one. It's like huge right now. I don't know exactly when he wrote it. It's like on all the stations that play that kind of music. Do you know, Ash, if the new album that you're talking about, or the latest album from him, do you know if it's written about his changed life, or is it before everything? Yeah, we got a guy, one of the guys in the studio, the one that got the chance to come in the studio, shaking and said, yeah. Says, yeah, it's about the new stuff. That's really cool. Oh, yeah, he is awesome. He's huge right now.
in the industry too. I could get into that. Rob's going to put it up. It's the first one. The first one where? Rob? First one where? This one? What you need to do is be thankful for the life you got, you know what I'm saying? Stop looking at what you ain't got and start being thankful for what you do got. Let's give it to him, baby girl. His stuff is so powerful. of stories i get behind i love when you have somebody that's doing music that's really good like that has a good message that used to be extraordinarily popular doing it the other way and god takes somebody like that and they still have all that talent they've still got all that ability they still have all of the things to share but it's different i love that i mean that's
How can you not get behind it? It's great. And it's so authentic from where he's coming from, you know? Yeah. And in the show, he's lost a lot of friends, you know, to gang violence, stuff like this. And last week, the kid was like 13 or 14, and he's starting to get into gangs. He takes the kid to the graveyard, and he shows him. He goes, this is my best friend. He goes, this is where you're going to end up, you know? And he's like... Oh, dude, that just gave me the chills, bro. Yeah, and he does this powerful stuff. He took another guy to a morgue. when there was like a body, and he's like, you know, this is the road you're heading on. He's like, and the kid is like, yeah, we're all going to end up like that anyways. He's like, yeah, but you're on the express lane, you know? He's like, you're going to go much quicker. So the stuff he does is powerful. I recommend that show to anyone. We got the sports dirt coming up next, and Eddie said he was going to tell you about it. What is the deal with Albert Hainsworth? And before we went to break, we said we were going to come back and we were going to give you some sports dirt. Eddie's going to tell you what the deal is with Albert Hainsworth. Our text address is textmikey at gmail.com. So if you'd like, you can text us right now. And our phone number is 570-1053. Skye, who's the latest celebrity to take it off for Playboy? Oh, well, it's just been announced. That 45-year-old Lisa Rinna. Oh, no. It's a work in progress. I like the post-build-up, supposed to push John all that. But she will be in the May issues and says her body hasn't looked better in years and thinks that largely to the time she was on Dancing with the Stars. And she says she wants to encourage other women to be proud of their bodies, no matter what age or what size they are. Or how many plastic surgeries you've had. So now she feels that Playboy is what will make women feel better about their bodies. That's where I bring stuff into question. Kind of goofy. Just because you're proud doesn't mean you've got to be nude. Right. And so when her husband, Harry Hamlin, was asked, you know, what does he think about his wife? Harry Hamlin.
This wife being in Playboy. He says, Lisa looks absolutely great, and I'm happy other people will be able to see her on the cover of Playboy. These artful photos of Lisa will blow you away. Is that right? It is. I think it's art. Yeah. I guess anything. Yeah, I guess it could be. I wear bras. I should wear bras. Please, please. Oh, she looks great. I was there. I could do it. She's pretty. She has a great body. She looks like she's had a little bit of work done in some areas. For sure. She's been in Playboy before. Those lips are. Lips and other stuff. Okay, I meant not perfect. Yeah, you can tell. I know. Sky. Man, Sky is so dirty. What the hell did that come from? You can have my number, baby. Even the president came on and said, that's what you're trying to say. Okay. It was like, there's no tomorrow. High school chicks, university chicks, it don't matter. My bad. Apparently. My bad. This guy too. Wow. My gosh. What if we were to do? What if we did good? I think we need to. Now, with the top sports stories of the day, it's the Sports Dirt with Eddie. All right, before I tell you about Albert Hainsworth, I've got to tell you about Tiger. His comeback.
is cut short. Are you kidding? He lost. No. No way. He lost in the second round to Tim Clark at the Match Play Championship yesterday. So it's over? He's done. He's done at the Match Play. I know it sucks because I was really looking forward to watching the tournament this weekend. Dude, how do you think NBC feels right now? Dude, they're miserable. They are so bummed. They were going to have Tiger this weekend. I'm sure they were, oh, please, Tiger. Just can't wait. The ratings are going to be through the roof. Not so much. Here's Tiger talking about his loss. I hit it really good today. Just didn't make enough birdies. Tim made enough birdies there, and I didn't answer them in the middle of part of the round. And consequently, I got behind. Okay, Eddie, I have a question. I have a question. It's very simple. Why did Tiger lose? Because Tiger doesn't lose. Well, match play is real different. It's basically, you know, you're playing a one-on-one against the guy. And if you don't have your goods, you know, that day, you can lose. So it's, you know, match play is real different. It's not like a tournament, you know, where it's four days. And, you know, over the course of four days, you know, usually Tiger is the best. And Tiger's great at match play, too. Don't get me wrong. But, you know.
coming back and, you know, trying to get his rhythm down and everything back, you know, his swing right and all that stuff. Match play probably isn't the best, you know, place to do that. Yeah. Because, you know, he's going to have some off swings. I wonder if he's psychologically, if there's anything going on. No, he's Tiger Woods, man. He knows. He knows. He knows. And, you know, a few more weeks, he's going to be. You know, lights out again. Is he, you think that knee is totally back? He said he felt pretty good after, you know, he walked the whole course. And, you know, after playing two, you know, two days of, you know, 18 holes, he said he felt good. I'd be winded. He didn't bother him. I would be really winded. I can't even do that. I play golf. Give me the cart. So the biggest name left is Phil Mickelson. He survived a scare, but he won his match against Zach Johnson. So he's the highest seated player left. And I'm sure NBC is like, please win today, Phil. Get to the weekend. So there you go. Free agency began last night at 9.01 p.m. And the huge signing of Albert Hainsworth went to the Washington Redskins. They signed him to a seven-year, $100 million deal. $100 million. Drumroll, please. Oh, my God. Wow.
I can't. I don't even understand. How many years? Seven years, $100 million. He'll do anything. He loves it. He loves signing big name guys. He loves it. He loves it, and he loves to basically take his whole future and say, this is who we're going to pay this. Exactly. And they weren't done. So they spend $100 million on Albert Haynesworth, and they go, you know what? We still have money. We've got to spend some more. They gave D'Angelo Hall a six-year, $54 million deal, making him one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the league. Are they looking for a new girl? This is a guy that was cut by the Raiders last year. Now he's one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the league. What is that? I don't know, man. It is crazy. The Chargers don't roll that way. They signed their own guys. They signed their own guys.
which I agree with. You know, they got tons of talent, and they don't go out and make that big splash in free agency or anything like that. But I just, I mean, that Albert Hainsworth deal is crazy. Well, listen, man, here's the deal. You've got to, if you're Daniel Snyder, you have to be going, well, we better win a Super Bowl, man. I mean, you don't sign those players to. No. And who is Albert? Who is that for someone who really loves football but doesn't know? He was the Tennessee Titans defensive tackle. Okay. And he's good. He's great. And he's really good. He's probably the best defensive tackle in the league. And he says, eh, when he wants to be. Yeah, yeah. What does that mean? Well, I've seen him, you know. I mean, he plays hard when he wants to. Obviously, last year he had a good season because it was a contract year. Now that he's making $100 million, is he still going to have that? incentive to go out there and play hard every down. I don't know. It is more about them than it is about the team. Okay. That could be true. How can, and I don't know, I don't understand how it works. How can they pay him like about $14 million a year, but we're asking LT to take a pay cut? I don't get, like isn't there a salary cap or am I tripping? There is a salary cap. It just all depends on how you use it. The reason why the Chargers have to
kind of restructure LT's deals because they have so many other guys they need to sign. They have Phillip Rivers they have to re-sign because he's coming up. Sean Merriman's coming up. He's going to be a free agent. Darren Sproles is a free agent. We have so many big names. They have to try and figure out how to fit them all. And they're putting all their money in pretty much one spot. Pretty much. And if we were baseball, it wouldn't matter. You could spend as much money on whoever you want. You could spend half a billion like the Yankees did. Or the Red Sox. We didn't spend half of it. I was just going to say. Hold on one second. Please. Why don't you look it up? I'm going to. We got John Smoltz this year. We got that AAA guy from Japan. We got Brad Penny. We did not. Hold on one second. Because we didn't. Yes, they're operating on a million dollar payroll. No, I'm not. We're the second highest payroll in the, you know, major league baseball. Okay, so it's the Yankees. But then you. But hold on. No question that the Yankees have a huge payroll, but so do you. But we just passed off. Are you guys not hearing what I'm saying? This past offseason, we did not go out and spend half a billion dollars.
We didn't go and spend that. Okay. So, I mean, we have a high payroll. You gave John Smoltz $14 million. You know, you gave Brad Penny $9.2 million. Okay. Now go look at what the Yankees did. Jason Bay, you gave $6 million, too. I mean, it isn't comparable, Rob. It isn't. It isn't. But you can't point your finger because you've got three fingers. Guess what? Point it back at you. Guess what? I'm pointing with four fingers. And my thumb's pointing at Skye. That's right. You can't just go around pointing them. We didn't spend half a billion, dude. Because, Rob, if you point one finger at somebody else, guess what? You point three bucks at yourself. Guess what? Guess what? Guess what? So, speaking of the Yankees, you know how I told you yesterday about A-Rod and how he was spotted getting into his... A-Rod! Yes? Every time you say it, you know you're going to get that.
time. He was spotted getting into his cousin's SUV after the game. Dude, why are you doing that? He's the guy that was in the news that got you in trouble. Well, the Yankees have told A-Rod, you need to stay away from that cousin. You're not allowed to hang out with him anymore. Can you imagine? He's like, why? What's the big deal? You can't play with your cousin anymore. He's a bad influence on you. So funny. Oh, man. Wow. What did my cousin do? Nuts, man. There it is. Let's see. 570-1053 is our number. And Mondo's is coming in today, right? I smell it. I smell it. Mondo's is catering the Mikey Show every Friday. You get to, well, what we do is early in the week, we give everybody listening an opportunity to play P1 Trivia, come in for a catered breakfast backstage pass. And today, Mondo's brought the food. Well, we've got a little bit of traffic now on the West 94 King Freeway. It slows from the 805 to the 15 connector. There's a bad accident on that West 94 ramp to South 15 causing that backup there. Watch for an accident now being reported northbound 15 before Miramar Way. And South 15 has the usual backup from the 78 down to the Rancho Parkway. Rest of our freeways are doing good. Just a little fog up there to deal with, so be careful with that. I'm McLaurin on Rock 105.3. Not to get too sidetracked, he looks great. Okay. Can I tell you guys a secret? I don't know. I don't know if I want to hear it. I have another chimpanzee. You do? Yeah, his name is Rooster and he's my personal trainer. Wait. That seems weird. And he said to me, train with me for one month and you will have the strength of 7,000 men and some
Prison thumping abs. Oh, wow. Back to the Mikey Show on The Rock. Rock 105.3. What you need to do is be thankful for the life you got, you know what I'm saying? Stop looking at what you ain't, guys. Start being thankful. Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. It's 717. There are five people on The Mikey Show. Myself, Eddie, Sky, Ashley, and Boston Rob. If Obama's budget gets approved, it may mean a rate hike for who, Sky? for anyone who takes a trip on an airplane. Oh, come on. No. They're already outrageous. What? So basically right now, let's just calm down, okay? Okay, so basically right now, can I just explain? You are the worst, Obama. Let her speak. Hey, so right now when you fly. Eddie, you're so dramatic. Oh, really? Oh, gosh.
Right now when you fly, you pay a security fee of $2.50 for each leg of your trip. I do? Yes. It's one of the fees that you pay. You haven't seen all the security fees? Look at when you pay next time. They say all these different security things. So it's like $2.50 for each leg of your trip with a maximum of $5 depending on how many places you're flying. And the Obama administration says right now those fees only cover about $36. of providing the security at the airports. So those fees only cover 36% of the cost of providing security. And so they haven't set the exact amount that this fee is going to increase to. They're still working that out. But the fee hike would take place in 2012 if approved. And, of course, the airline industry is totally against that. And they say they believe aviation security is a responsibility of the U.S. government. Well, by 2012, we should have teleportation machines. Yeah, that should be awesome. That's what we're all looking forward to. So that's cool. I don't like having to travel the way we travel. So don't affect me. Thank you. Weird. There we go. Thank you, Obama. The bare naked ladies. Oh, B&L? Yes. That's right. I'm sorry.
They apparently have lost their lead singer, Sky? Yeah. They fired him or something? Yeah, well, they made an announcement that they will be parting ways and that the Bare Naked Ladies will continue, but it'll just be the dudes in the band. I don't know. You know, not the singer. Well, the singer was like the whole point. The band is keeping the name Bare Naked Ladies. Well, who's going to do the... Prince band. Maybe you could. Yeah. I don't know that I'm qualified. She could be the new lead singer of The Bare Naked Lady. I don't know that I'm qualified. Why don't you try it? Come on. No, that's perfect. No, but that's perfect. I mean, obviously qualified. I can work on it. The speculation is that the reason he's out of the band is because right after the band... Because I'm going to be taking it away. Neil, what are you doing? That's why the speculation, because I'm going to be the new lead singer. You're going to be the new lead singer of Bare Naked Ladies. Yeah, would you like to hear the song that I auditioned with? I would love to, I guess. It's spit.
One week since you smoked some tweak. Oh, wait. That's not the lyrics. You threw your arm in the air and you said, I'm Maury. Okay. Don't attack your... In five days since you ate your pig. What? You still got the heartburn in both your arteries. Okay. Neil, I don't think that... Get the heck out of here. That's all that little dude came up with all this time. I'm so sorry, everyone. I'm so sorry, everyone. Well, I wouldn't talk.
That drug stuff meal, because they say that it's drugs that probably led to this guy getting kicked out of the band. What are you talking about? Well, they said that allegedly he was enjoying a dining room table full of cocaine last July when a police busted in. Oh, really? They were there? Did you read that? They.com? I mean, this was right on the heels of them releasing a kid's album, so I don't know. They may not have worked out so well. I did the same thing. You did. Well, you did? That's weird. That's not good. Found me in front of a table full of... Horse pill heroin. Horse pill heroin. That's good stuff. Let me tell you something, Eddie. It was. It was my tubby manager, Maury, that guy sitting over there with a bowling shirt on. I see him. He's the one that suggested that I try to get this gig as new lead singer of the Bad Breasted Bradys. No, that's not. Bare Naked Ladies is the name of the band. Yeah. Tell you what, I don't know why I listen to that guy anyway. All he does is sit around snorting the Wii, playing with the LSD. Oh, that doesn't... You can't snort the Wii. Go ahead. Oh, look at little Tubby over there. Oh, don't leave him alone. Go ahead, Murray. Do what you always do. Wheeze about it. That's mean. You're so mean to him. He's been by your side forever. You guys, he forgets his inhaler everywhere we go, all right? Well...
A guy, it's always, oh, it's back at the hotel. I forgot my inhaler. Oh, it's in the cab ride. I forgot it in the cab. My inhaler. Well, sorry. I mean, it happens. Wheezy. Oh, man. You guys want to know why I want to be the new lead singer? The Barely Naked Babies. Wait, no. Bare, naked, lazy, Neil. Please. I'm not going to tell them to smoke their Hawaiian toke pipes or snort any of that. Wait. Go-go juice either. Let me tell you something. Those aren't things. What is that? Those aren't things. I'll clean them up, all right? I'm going to get in the band. I'm going to clean them up. I'm going to show them a way that a band should operate, all right? Okay. Like my band back in the 60s, Neil Diamond and the Free Weed. Wait, Neil Diamond and the Free Weed? That's right, Eddie. I don't think that's... No. Not sure why all the... All the hippies showed up at our shows, though, Eddie. Well, probably because you were announcing free weed. I don't think you got that. Didn't scare me one bit when those hippies showed up. I scared them back. Why? That's how I started dressing like Dracula. What? Why would you? Turned into a lifelong relationship. I still dress like Dracula. That's why the sequins, the cape. I don't like it. It's creepy. Let me try another song. Let me try another song. Test two babies, all right?
You ready for me to do this thing? Yeah, let's hear it. It's been 14 years since Maury got on a treadmill. Because he's so lazy, he never gets out of that little Snuggie, does he? He's lazing that thing all day long, doesn't he? Maury, Maury, get this guitar out of here because I'm sick of your face. I hate that kid. She is a troublemaker. Well, that was unbelievable. Sick of kids in general these days. Why? How come? With your VWs all over the place, right? Driving around in your VW vans and your bell bottoms. Not the 60s. I've seen that in ages. Walking around with your iPhones and your wee-wees. No, it's just wees. Just wees. Their guitar hero and their octomoms, right? Okay.
That's what it's all about today. It's all about having eight babies. That's what everybody's got to do. One person did that. Why don't you take off your puff puff powder and your American Maidol and Maidol or whatever the hell it is. American Maidol. I saw it on TV last night. Is that what it was? I don't know. American Maidol. American Maidol. is medicine for PMX. Right, right, right. They got the Tutti Frutti host, right? Well, that's a fact. He's got the hands of the Tutti Frutti hands. Why don't you take you and your Tutti Frutti host and put it where the sun don't shine. You need to lay off a little bit. Eddie, they're all lucky that Uncle... Get out of here. You're lucky Uncle Neal doesn't sue every last one of you, all right? Because I sued Uncle Maury the last time that he made a pass at me in the men's bathroom at Lips. He never did that. And why are you calling him Uncle Maury? I like it. Did I call him Uncle Maury? Yes, you did. Hey, Uncle Maury. That's weird. Remember the time I sued you for touching me at Lips? I was put for him. That's not what you think. I was put for him. I'm judging you. Forget it.
I need to let my other band, the Boo Donkeys, know that I quit. You're not in the Boo Donkeys. I know you're not in the Boo Donkeys. I end with them. The Boo Donkeys are fake bands. Yes, they are. And I've had it with them. I'm quitting their band. They're sitting around snorting their gin blossoms and getting loose with the white rabbit. Back to the bare knuckle ladies. Let me tell you about it. No, I'm not. Let me tell you about it for a second. Those girls are lucky that I didn't karate chop their mouths. They're men. They're men. Those broads are men? Back when we toured together in Provo when I was still a Mormon, let me tell you what happened. I loaned those girls my curling... I am Jewish. I loaned those... I am now, but at the time I was still a Mormon and I loaned those... chicks my curling iron one night, right before a show, and that drugged-out hippie singer misplaced it. That's why I don't like him in the first place, so I'm glad he's gone. Your curling iron. That's right. I love my curling iron. But it reminds me of a song I wrote about it. Let's rock it. Okay, here we go. Let's rock it. This is what it's all about. You ever heard a song called Love on the Rocks? I have heard it. It was written about the curling iron. No, it was not. I don't think it was. It was, too. Neil Diamond. Listen to this. Is this where I sing?
Well, yeah, you missed your cue. No, no, no, wait, I didn't miss a guy. It's your song. You should know when you're cute. Can't I start to sing, though, whenever I feel like it? You've got to sing at the appropriate... Well, let's start it again, then. Wait, how are you? Because the mood ain't right. I ain't dressed like Dracula. Give me my cape, that's okay. Look into my room. Man, this is my black cape. It's dry, Amore. It's dry. It's about five minutes. Here we go. You ready to do this? Here we go. Curl in your locks. Yeah. Order me some fries. Tell me I stink and you make me fried rice. What? Sky, you're like this. I'm dropping a douche with a door swinging loose. Oh, yeah. I'm with the bloodier. Oh, I hate that. That's a stupid meal. You're stupid. Co-written by Sky. And it was. I gave you my hair. I gave you my mole. That's cute. You left me a cold beer, you little B&L troll. Oh.
Yesterday's gone, and now, all I want, your gig. And if you really want, then for sure. And if that wasn't bad enough, you can't seem to book you anywhere, can you? Oh, no. No, I don't know why you can't book you. Because you're playing weekends in Indio because it's the only place that plays up front anymore. Uh-oh. You didn't get any good weed at anymore. Don't get upset. Because you're 50 years old and you have the same stupid manager you had when you were 26. Don't throw anything. Maury? Get out of here. Get out of here. The incisor. Didn't she have the internet in there? I know. What's it? WebMD? It's not that hard. You hurt my ace. We're getting better, but let me throw the guitar at you. You don't even know what stupid it is. The mic.

Eddie. I am maybe the world's worst handyman. Sky. Even if an SUV is cheaper, I'm still going to go for a hybrid because my motivation is... Boston Rob. Love the Republicans. I love the Democrats. You're obviously sexist and a horrible... And Ashley. I mean, literally, like, my brain is blank. The Mikey Show's on. Rock 105.3. Now, with what's up in your world. This is the Mikey Show 360. What are people talking about? Well, they may be talking about this. By the way, it's 736, just in case you wanted to know. This is one of the things that people may be talking about in Orlando. There was a guy that decided that he wanted to buy his daughter a computer. Oh, that's nice. Oh, that's pretty nice, right? He wanted to buy her a laptop. Very nice thing to do, except... I was shocked. 13-year-old Tiffany Harbour got an unwanted eyeful while trying to download music on her new but previously used computer. Pictures of naked men, pool parties, and explicit online chats still saved on the hard drive from the prior owner. I said, Dad, I'm seeing some stuff on this computer I don't like. I mean, she was pretty traumatized over it. I mean, she clicked on one of them, and it opened up and showed men with men.
Terry Harvey bought a used computer for that. Yeah, Rob, did you? This was like years ago. You're supposed to reach your hard drive. He told the saleswoman it was for his sixth grade daughter. Who sells a computer without getting rid of your gross stuff? Yeah. You know what I mean? That is creepy. It's very creepy. Let's see. And she assured him the computer was clean, but says when he reported the pornographic pics to the manager. I said, you guys promised me when I bought this thing it was safe. Oh, he bought it from a store? That's what it sounds like. I thought he bought it from a private individual. No, it sounds like he bought it from like a... No way. No. There was nothing that, you know, he could do. So Terry called Tech 911. They just started finding more pictures. And ComputerTax even found a file with the former owner's tax return. And his name is, his social security number is, security and checking account numbers, address and salary information. Buyer beware, it could have been an identity thief's dream. You really got to be careful what you buy. And be extra careful if you're selling a computer. An assistant manager at ValuePawn would only say they do clean up the hard drives.
but apparently not enough to satisfy Terry. Somebody should pay for this mistake. Uh-oh. Who is this going to happen to next time? You know what that means. Yep. Here comes the lawsuit. Yep, here we go. Yeah, which just, you know, there you have to ask yourself again, so how much would that be worth? Mm-hmm. I'm totally paranoid about that stuff, like, because I want to, like, don't... Yeah, the same kind of... Computers? Yes. Well, obviously. That's all she downloads. Having naked pool parties. That's weird. That's what I photograph on the weekends. Because I want to donate my cell phones and my laptops and stuff, but even though I delete everything from them, I still feel that there's a way for somebody to find stuff on there. Well, what would they find on your computer? Stuff. Where are my midgets? As far as cell phones, you know, like my phone book that's in there. And, you know, I don't know. Like, what? Don't look at me like that. You wouldn't want them to have the private phone numbers that you have of others. Yeah, like I don't think it would be cool. People's phone numbers that they don't know. Well, no, like if.
If a listener, if it happened to end up in like a listener's hands and it has, you know, the station hotline number, it has Mikey's cell number, his home number. Sounds like what paparazzi has right now. What's the difference? You know what I mean? So even though I delete everything, I still feel like there's a way for somebody to retrieve that. And I don't know if that's valid paranoia or not. Well, Mike, when you're a celebrity, like that. That's not what I'm saying. Mike's put in people's hands. Yes, I mean, there are certain things. It's just one of the things you have to deal with when you're in the business. Right. Shut up. You know. Of course, you know, there's some erotic pictures of me on the phone. Yes, sir. Where I'm wearing a full potato sack. Yes. Yes, there are some pictures of me, well, shall we say, in a very compromising position. For instance, in one, I'm wearing a... Oh, hello. That's crazy. And another, I show full ankle. That's right. Oh, wow. Full frontal ankle. We get the joke. Thank you. It's hilarious.
Skye does not do stuff like that. I'm addicted to bathhouses. Skye? No. Are those pictures on there? Never been. My goodness. The real stories of a jacuzzi club. Skye. Okay. That's her novel. Yes. Whatever. Yes, that's the memoir. Okay. 570-1053 is our phone number, and you can text us at textmikey at gmail.com. That's how to get a hold of us. Some of the other things happening in the world. Why don't we do new releases? What's the stuff that we got coming out in the movies today? Oh, yeah. It's a doozy of a weekend with new movies. We have Street Fighter, The Legend of Chun-Li. What? It's based on a video. The Legend of Chewbacca. It's based on a video game with a female fighter. Really? Is there any stars in it? No. I loved that video game. I played that great. It was great, but their movie was terrible. I dragged him through 11 major cities on four continents and never come close, not once. That's it. Okay. Wow. I'll watch that. Can't wait to see the rest. Sounds great. Yeah. What else? And then there's one other movie coming out this weekend, and it is The Jonas Brothers, the 3D concert experience. Where are we going, Rob? Probably tonight. Okay.
Let's do a matinee, maybe. I'm on tour. It's like a documentary about them? Yeah, on tour. My wife asked me the other day, my wife asked me, if I were a kid now, you know, she goes, you know my personality. She said, if I were a kid now, would I be a Jonas Brothers fan? And I go, wow, that's a great question. I said, like you? No, her. She was asking, you know, she goes, what do you think? She said, if I were, if you know my personality, she goes, knowing my personality, would I be a Jonas Brothers fan? And I said, I'm going to say yes, because you liked new kids, you know? And so I think you would be. And she goes, and the personality she is now probably wasn't exactly what she was back then, you know? But I don't know, man. And I know I sound like a 38 year old dude, but those skinny pants.
Oh, it's hard to look at. Tell me about it. I'm not down with the skinny pants, you know. I'm not down with the fashion. And that's not to say because, you know, in the late 90s, I was into, not saying I necessarily did it, but I knew kids were doing stuff that I wasn't doing that I wasn't, like, out on. Right. Maybe it wasn't my thing, but, you know, I wasn't completely out on it. The baggy pants, maybe. That kind of deal. Yeah. I wasn't necessarily like, oh, I don't know about that look. Well, some people are into skinny jeans. Some people are into Tommy Bahama. That's a good point. It's all different. This is America. She's making me into this sandal-wearing Tommy Bahama guy that I am with socks and boat shoes. Now, keep in mind that Jonas Brothers say they will be making surprise appearances around the country at different movie theaters this weekend. Oh, my gosh. So one can hope. That's right. Shush. I just didn't hear you. I'm sorry. Yeah, I do think it's weird. Are they going to be in the theater? In where you're viewing? Or in the lobby? I bet the movie's about to start. They'll put the lights up. When the lights go down...
You'll think the movie's about to start. They'll bring them in. Then they'll put the lights back up. And oh my gosh, there's the Jonas Brothers. No way. I would scream. Oh my gosh. I would scream this. So that's going on this weekend. I saw, and a lot of people are going to be listening and go, I still don't know what you're talking about because I don't watch it. What? American Idol. I watched a second of the TiVo thing. And speaking of the skinny jeans thing, there was some dude on there. I don't know what his name is, but there's some dude that I said, man, that guy is too much of everything that the kids are doing right now that I'm not into. Adam Lambert. Adam Lambert. Yeah. I got to see this. What's going on? He's got that flat iron look. He's a fallout boy times 20. Yeah. And I think Randy Jackson even said. Dude, you're everything that's hip and in right now, man. You're that guy from Twilight. You are. You did. You said that. You're the guy from Twilight. You are, you know. Ball out boy. Ball out boy. My chemical romance. Yeah, he's all that. He's the skinny jeans. The eyeliner. He's the eyeliner. Guy liner. The guy liner. I'm not down with that look. No, no. He's a little nice. Oh.
I know exactly what you're talking about. Are we missing anything with that look? You got the skinny jeans. Yeah. You got the eyeliner. You got the eyeliner. You got the flat iron hair. Got Converse. That's a necessity. Like a labeled T. And it's fitted. Some kind of armband or wrist. Like that leather wristband. Do you ever have over the t-shirt with the print on it, the print t-shirt, do you ever have a sport jacket with the sleeves pushed up? And now a skinny tie that we're hip in the 80s that are back now. Terrible. That's what the kids are doing, right? That's what they're into. And that guy made it through. He's in the top 12. Really? He's got a crazy voice. Does he? Yeah. What kind of stuff does he sing? Ladylike stuff. Ladylike. So check this out. You want to hear the rudest thing anybody ever said to Rosie O'Donnell. Rosie O'Donnell. Oh, that sounds scary. The rudest thing.
That anybody ever said. There's so many. To Rosie O'Donnell. She was on the Tyra Banks show. Oh, great. And Tyra Banks asked her that question. And here's what she said. What's the rudest thing somebody has said to you in public? Somebody has said to me, I don't want to insult you, but you look like Rosie O'Donnell. Yes! That's a double insult because of her! Rob thinks that's the most genius thing he's ever heard. My mind might explode. That is... Rob's going to use that. It's right up Rob's eyes. That is more brilliant. Now I have to meet Jimmy Fallon and go, dude, I don't mean to insult you. No offense. No offense, but dude, you're coming off a lot like Jimmy Fallon. That is, oh my God. He's right on your hands. He's like, hey, after the show, hey, dude, I don't mean to insult you, but a couple of those jokes were like Jimmy Fallon type jokes. That sucks. That's pretty brutal, right? That's amazing. Amazing. Apparently, you know how Jeremy Piven was doing this Broadway thing? And he just stopped.
Oh, yeah, he ate too much sushi. He ate too much sushi. Well, he says... He did. That's what he said. He said he ate so much sushi that he got mercury poisoning. Yeah, yeah. But Sky was saying that, like, they're kind of... mad about it, the Broadway show. Oh, yeah. We're pissed. Yeah. What's your problem? No, you didn't. Because right after he... Put that sushi down. Who do you think you are? You can't just do that. Stop it. Get back in there. Ari. Wait, it's different. Because right after Piven abruptly. Put that coffee down. Sushi down. Sushi down. Right after he abruptly quit the play, like the producers and everybody were calling shenanigans and going, yeah, right, whatever, you know. But Jeremy Piven's doctor told him that it wouldn't be in his best interest to continue because he was so sick due to the mercury poisoning, you know, which is pretty rare. I'm right. So the producers of the Broadway show had this grievance hearing. Joe Crass.
I don't know what that really is. I have agreements with you. Yeah, I guess so. It was called a You've Been Naughty hearing. Oh, was it? Yeah. So they failed to come to a decision in that, and so they say the next step would be to proceed to arbitration. No, no, no. No? Next step is a spanking. Oh, that's weird. Because the good news is you're fired. I didn't read that. So, yeah, arbitration's next. And it's not really a step. It's a skip. Yeah. It's more of a saunter. Yeah. Swish. It's more of a swish. It really is. So they're mad at him. I don't know if they want money from him or an apology. I don't know what the heck they're asking for, but we'll see. Okay. When we come back, we're going to... When we... We have to take a quick time out, but when we come back, check this out. Spring breakers. This is big news for you. Yeah, the U.S. State Department has issued an official travel warning. I guess in Mexico there's been a huge surge in drug-related murders and violence. Great, there goes our trip, Rob. What part? Oh, no. Well, they say specifically the border towns. Like, it's to the point where I saw in the news last night, like, Texas has put, I think it's the National Guard, like, near the border. Are you serious? Because it's, like, so bad, the violence in the border towns, because the drug cartels are fighting for control of the streets.
streets and there's like yeah it's crazy the violence that's going on there so they say there have been murders in places like cancun and acapulco but specifically the border towns is where the majority of the violence is so they're just saying hey before you travel to mexico heads up you should know this is going on i wonder what it's like i wonder if it's happening in the middle of where people are shopping and eating or if it's more happening in like uh you know, residential areas, where that kind of stuff is happening. Eddie, what are your favorite long shots for the NFL as the teams are right now? It's P1 Third Shift. What are your favorite long shots? A little early. A little bit.
You know, I like a lot of the younger teams. I think that what the Falcons did last year and what they're doing is really cool. I like to see them building through the draft and things like that. Obviously, Washington, with the early free agency moves that they made, are trying to make themselves into players. And they've got to be the early favorites right now with all their signings and stuff that they're doing. I hate to say it, but I think Denver's moving in the right direction. I think that they're going to make some moves and sign some people. And, you know, like I said, the young teams like Kansas City, if they draft well, they could eventually be a better team. Things like that. Let's see. P1 Rude Dog. Hey, what's up, Mikey? Not too much, dude. What's your question for the Oracle? Eddie, I want to ask you is, you know, after seeing AJ Smith on the news with his news conference, he just seemed very enthusiastic about the LT thing. He's not enthusiastic about anything. Yeah, what was the press conference, Eddie? He did kind of like a state of the team address and talked about, you know, he talked a little bit about LT saying that, you know, the team is still in negotiations with him and they're still trying to work it out. And he talked a lot about how, you know, the team just isn't,
they just haven't been good enough, you know, that they're right there, but they're not, you know, at the level of the Steelers and the Patriots and the Colts and stuff like that, where they just got to get over that hump, you know, where it's two years in a row now that they've gotten to, you know, the playoffs and done well, and they've had all these injuries. And they, you know, would like to see this team come together. in January and be healthy and be able to compete and take that next step to go to the Super Bowl. I'm doing my best. I don't think that people are playing with you. It's not your fault. Every year I think we put a competitive team out there. You do, and you tried real hard. I don't know what a lot of people... I do think you need to do better, Norv, in the early part of the season. I don't think I need to do better at any point or anything. How can you see that? Looking back on it, I don't think there's any areas we can improve on. Now, Norm, at one point you were 4-8 on the year. But even then, we were perfect. No, that's not true. That doesn't make any sense at all. None of it was my fault. Well, it is. What one thing can you point out that I did wrong? Well, I'm not, actually. I think I was in charge of the good stuff and the players were in charge of the bad stuff. No, no, no. One thing I found really interesting that AJ was saying was that he was not naming names, but he was calling out players. He said,
there's a lot of players that are on notice that have to do better next year or they're going to be gone. He didn't name names, but you can think of the Matt Wilhelms and the Cromartys and guys like that. Would Quinton Jammer, even though they paid him a gajillion dollars, would Quinton Jammer be, is his job in jeopardy at all? No, Quinton Jammer plays at a really high level. In fact, I think that he was real close to being at a Pro Bowl level last year. He had a very good season. Of course he was, dude. He went to the University of Texas. Take it easy. With Jammer, I think you're always going to have one or two plays where you go, oh, man, I can't believe he made that penalty or I can't believe he didn't intercept that pass. But he's becoming a shutdown corner. I really like Quentin Jammer. Rude Dog, did you have one more thing? Yeah. I wanted to say, do you think the lack of the Chargers getting some help for LT might mean they're looking to replace him or release him in the near future? I think it's kind of the opposite. I think with them deciding to go with Darren Sproles and giving the franchise tag to Darren Sproles, I think that they're committing to LT and saying, we want to bring you back.
Maybe in a little bit of a different role where we're going to utilize Darren Sproles a little bit more and lessen the wear and tear on LT throughout the season. Maybe get someone in the draft to just give a little bit more help because Darren Sproles can't really carry too much. You don't want to wear him down either. Right, and I think that they'll figure it out. I don't think that they're actually going to look too much into the draft. They drafted Jacob Hester last year in the second round. Because what happens if LT goes down? That means Darren Sproles is your starting running back. And is he really a guy to carry the load for a season? You know, I think that's the biggest question mark when it comes to Darren Sproles. You know, I don't necessarily see Sproles as an every down guy. You don't? I don't, you know, just because, I mean, if he takes pounding, you know, on a consistent basis, you know, he carries the rock 30 times a day a game. he's going to wear down. It's just natural. I mean, he's a small guy. And Jacob Hester is... He's a tweener. I look at him as a fullback slash running back. And he got in there, and I thought he played pretty well at the end of the season. But to me, I think if they're going to draft at any position in the backfield, I think they need to draft a true fullback and have Jacob Hester kind of be a change of pace guy. Eddie, this...
That is an interesting question. Line six is P1 Yelp. Go ahead. Hey, Eddie, I wanted to ask you what you thought about the future for Michael Vick and his contract with Atlanta. That is an interesting question. Well, he will definitely not be back with Atlanta. The Falcons have said he's not going to be back with us. And they don't need him. They drafted Matt Ryan last year. Matt Ryan had a huge season. But Michael Vick is... He will be back in the NFL. There are teams that are interested in him. And he will be traded because the Falcons still own the rights to Michael Vick. Now, what they get for Michael Vick is the question to me. Because I would not give a top one, two, three round draft pick for Michael Vick. A, you don't know what you're going to get. The guy hasn't played football in two, three years. And B, there's a PR nightmare headed to whatever team he goes to. That's the thing. I'm wondering, man. That's going to be tough. One of the teams that has talked about where he might be going is the San Francisco 49ers. Oh, well, at least there's no liberals up there.
There's no animal lovers or anything like that. But they think with the way Mike Singletary, he's kind of a player's coach, that he could work with Michael Vick and try and help him and reestablish himself into society and the NFL. I say no. Okay, well, Scott, you're the general manager. Thank you. Let's see. P1 Big Mike. What's up, Mikey? What's up, dude? Hey, Oracle. Yo. First off, how does it feel to be talking to someone that predicted the future? I don't know what you're talking about. Albert Hainsworth. What did you say? Did I not email him and tell you? What did you say for the rest of the listeners? I told him that we were signing him, for sure. It was a done deal. That Washington would be signing him? Oh, yeah. Wow. How long ago did you say that? Was it yesterday? Yesterday. Yeah. That was all over the news yesterday. Thank you. Yes, very well done. I would like to make a prediction. I'm not out to you. I believe that the sun may shine tomorrow. Whoa! Wow, that's so crazy. All right. What's your question, Big Mike? So now how deep in the playoffs do you think we get now that we have a legitimate pass rusher? Yeah, Big Mike is a huge Redskins fan. We talk a lot about Redskins football. You do? Which I really enjoy. In fact, I just wrote him back and I told him, you know, I think that this contract they gave Albert Hainsworth.
is ridiculous, and they really overpaid for D'Angelo Hall. And so it kind of handcuffs your team. I think that your team, they have other holes they need to fill, and when you sign guys like that to huge deals, that's a tough situation for the rest of the team. I think the team is going to be good. I think they're going to probably be a playoff team. But I still have questions about Jason Campbell. I still have questions about their head coach. You know, so I don't know if it gives them that step where they're going to be in the Super Bowl or anything like that. But, you know, I think they'll make the playoffs. Interesting. Well. Thank you, Big Mike. I appreciate it. He would talk Redskins football all day. He would. Text Mikey at gmail.com. Oracle. All this talk about replacing LT makes you wonder, should we have really gotten rid of Michael Turner? That's P1 Eric. Well, you know, you can. Get in the DeLorean and go back in time and all that stuff. That would be awesome. A year ago, would we get rid of LT and keep Michael Turner? No, we wouldn't. LT is one of the greatest football players ever.
and I still feel that LT is one of the greatest football players ever, and I think that we need to give him a chance to get back on the football field and show what he can do. Michael Turner had a fantastic season, but there was no way that they could sign both of those guys. They could not sign Michael Turner for the money he got in Atlanta. It was impossible. P1 What's Hampooning texts in and says, Oracle, what do you think about Rampage versus Keith Jardine? I'm ecstatic that Rampage Jackson... is probably going to end the career of Keith Jardine, who I cannot stand, who looks like he lives under a bridge, and that he is always asking for his precious. When is that fight going to be? That is next weekend, the 7th. Oh, okay. Yeah, Rampage is going to destroy Keith Jardine. I mean, he's going to knock him silly. Come on with this. Keith Jardine, you know, he's a weird fighter. Like, sometimes, you know, he'll show up, and he looks real good, and then other times, I mean, he kind of has like this. Glass chin. I mean, I think the same thing that happened with Vanderlei Silva when he knocked out Keith Jardine is it was what's going to happen with Rampage Jackson. Let's see. P1 Ryan, do you have a question for the Oracle? Yes, Oracle. Okay, now, Kuyper has us taking no Sean in the draft.
With Ray Maniuga doing a lot better in the combine. P1 Ryan, I've got to stop you there because I know there's a lot of people listening right now that have no idea what you're talking about. That was kind of like another language. It was. He's talking about the Chargers and he's talking about the upcoming NFL draft. No Sean Moreno is a running back. And who he thinks the Chargers will take. He thinks Kuyper. Kuyper thinks that that's who he's going to take? Who the Chargers are going to take? Yeah. And Eddie, what do you think of that player? He's the best running back available in the draft this year. I personally don't think that they're going to go in that direction. I think they have other holes they're going to fill, especially if they work out this thing with LT. They won't go that direction. If you're A.J. Smith, who are you taking? Who do you like? It's still really early. There's so many things. The combine's going on right now, and guys move up. That's been a blast to watch. You've been watching the comic? Oh, great. I can't even watch the comic. Oh, you're running. Oh.
Oh, that's neat. You caught a ball and then ran back. For those of you that don't know, every year at this time they do something called the NFL Combine in Indianapolis where they have all the college players come out and all the big general managers from all the different NFL teams come out and they watch them run the 40-yard dash. They lift weights. They do all these different jumping things. That's cool. Yeah, it is kind of cool. I can't watch it. It's too boring. I'll throw out a name for you. I like a guy named Everett Brown. He's a defensive end from Florida State. He's everything that the Chargers need. Obviously, Igor Orshansky is not going to be back with the team next year. So they need a good playmaking. Pass-rushing defensive end. I don't think Ever Brown's starting. His stock is starting to rise. He may be a top 10 guy, so he may not be there for the Chargers. If the draft were to happen today, he probably would. But I think his draft is rising, and he probably won't be there. But I really like that guy. We have an email from a listener that we're going to be reading to you and getting your take on. And don't forget, we do Ask the Oracle every Friday. Your opportunity to either write in.

Eddie. I like to do what I like to do. I don't care really how I look anymore. I'm just like, whatever. Sky. I love award shows. I love the OC. I love 90210. You know, so when it comes to pop culture, it's my like one last bit of youth. Boston Rob. I'm the ultimate recycling machine. It's pretty garbage disposal. It's true. Thank you. And Ashley. I support sweat everywhere I go. The Mikey Show's on. Rock 105.3. Don't stop. Netflix and how Sky never gets her movies when she wants them. Oh, I love it. I get mine instantly, too. It's a sexist service. Have you guys been Netflix-ing for a while? I just got a subscription for Christmas. And you're already getting stuff right away. Oh, that's going to make Sky mad. I got a year's subscription for Christmas, and so I've been regularly, I've got my movies in my queue, and I regularly get them, watch them, send them back, and I'll get them like
Two days later. I found two Netflix movies in my DVD case the other day that I guess I never sent back. What? They were goofy movies, too. Really? Yeah, they weren't like... You never got charged for them? No, you're not allowed to do that. I don't know. Oh, wow. I don't know. That's crazy. Never sent them back. I forgot. Send them now. That's why I'm not good at Netflixing, you know? I forget. I didn't think I'd be good at it, because I'm like you, Mike, and I'm really bad at that, like, being responsible, like, mailing things, remembering. Yeah, yeah, yeah. To do that. But I am on it. God doesn't get the chance. Do you get like new movies or like older movies? Well, right now I'm like catching up with the old movies, like all the movies I've always wanted to see. See, here's the problem, Ash. Eddie and I have a lot of the same movies in our queue because we want like the new movies. What does that mean in your queue? It's like a little spot where you... It's like your list of movies that you want. Your wall? Got it. It's like the wall. It's different. I'm so confused. And so if you go and look in Eddie's queue... All his movies say that they are ready to ship whenever he's ready. Whenever he sends a movie back, they're ready to ship out. You go look at my queue, the exact same movies say short wait, very long wait, long wait. Like all of them. All of them. The exact same movies that are ready for Eddie. I don't know. I have a very long wait for.
What's up with that? I've been a member for like five years, so they know me. Well, you know what? Ash has been a member for five minutes. She gets everything she wants. Well, I haven't rented any new movies yet, so. Yeah. Well, don't bother. They hate on new people. Sky does have the 1984 thriller Christine, Stephen King story. She does have that. You got that right away. You got it right away. Yeah, I'm going to watch that this weekend. That's going to be awesome. Got it right away. That's just going to be great. Sky, how many people showed up for Joe the Plumber's book signing in Washington? Yeah, well, we remember Joe the Plumber. You know, John McCain took him under his wing during the presidential campaign and, you know, made an example. Joe the Plumber, why should his taxes be raised? Well, so he's really been riding his 15 minutes, man. A website and a book called Joe the Plumber, Fighting for the American Dream. It's in my queue. Obviously. It's on my wall. You put it on your Kindle. That's right. Yeah. And so he did a book signing at the Borders in downtown Washington, D.C. on Wednesday. 11 people showed up. Yes. Oh, wow. 11 people showed up. That's awesome. Dude, if we did a book signing.
If we did a book signing, and we're just schmoes on the radio, we would have more than 11 people. I would think so. Yeah, it was scheduled to be a three-hour event, but after like 45 minutes, Borders was like, you know, you can go. We're good. That's brutal. That's brutal. Are you going to buy anything? Because if not, you got to go. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, Dr. Seuss just showed up, buddy. Yeah, dad. Yeah, dad. Matt Lauer on the Today Show. We're back now at 810. In five short years, Mark Zuckerberg has turned his social networking website, Facebook, into a global phenomenon. This guy. This guy is about 12 years old, by the way. Mark Zuckerberg. Mark Zuckerberg. I'm not kidding you. Is he the founder? The founder of Facebook is maybe 22 years old. Shut up. Maybe. 22, 23. Trillionaire. Absolutely. To friend someone, update your status, or write on a wall is the language of the 175 million people. 175 million people. Not including Skye and Rob. Yeah, Skye. We're out, bro. Wow. And let me tell you, I'm on Facebook, and I love Facebook. Eddie's on it. Ashley's on it. I love Facebook. And when you're on Facebook...
You so want every friend that you know to be on Facebook because you love the way that you love. There's no reason not to be. You communicate. He's 24 years old. You want to know his net worth? Yes, I do. I don't want to know. I do. Sky, what is it? $1.5 billion for Facebook. 24 years old. $1.5 billion is his net worth. We've got to come up with something, Eddie. Yeah. Dude. Neck book. Yeah. Neck book. Neck book. It's just a bunch of people with their necks. Neck tattoos. That's right. Website, Facebook. It's kind of like an addiction for me. Created in a Harvard dorm room back in 2004 is a way for students to share information online. Today, from politicians to a lot of curious parents, Facebook says it's gaining 5 million users a week. Oh, that's disgusting. Five?
Million users a week. This kid's on the cover of Fortune magazine. They're showing his cover of Fortune magazine. And they just said, because it came out a while ago, they just said 2004. So he was 19 when he created Facebook. That is mind-blowing. What? 19. It caters to everyone who is interested in sharing any type of information with other people on the web. If it were a country, it would be about the size of Brazil. Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me? That's awesome. And I just got a question. Do you think that MySpace is kind of like, what happened? I don't know if you know this, but MySpace is the new boutique. All right. Yeah. He's still working it. Recently parodied on Saturday Night Live. Facebook break. Inside the company, Facebook's growth is taken very seriously. Facing tough competition, the site is still searching to find a successful business model. And its users are asking questions about their privacy online. Who owns our data when we put it out on the web? Who owns it when we put it on Facebook? Earlier this month, Mark Zuckerberg... We were talking about this in the news. Yeah. Because Facebook had to put this big thing on there. Because what they were basically saying is, if you're on Facebook, we own...
everything you put on there. So if you ever cancel your account, oh, so sorry, it's still ours. But so many people on Facebook got upset about it that they had to say, oh, okay, sorry, we won't do that. We won't do that. And in fact, there is a new message on Facebook right now that they have. If you sign on to Facebook and... You go to your homepage, not the profile page, but the homepage. It says Facebook is announcing a new approach that allows users to have a role in determining the policies that govern the site. For more information and links to the groups containing our new draft policies, check out the Facebook blog. So like they said, they're changing it all. Founder and CEO changed the terms of use for the site to read the company may retain archived copies of your user content. Say in 10 years, you know, I want to run for president of the United States or 20 or 30 years. Anything I have on Facebook now, since it's owned forever, they can do whatever they want with it. Sparking outrage, some said Facebook was claiming ownership of personal photos and information. They just basically had a major PR flame out on their hands and they had to step in and put out the fire.
After quickly recanting, the company is now also giving users unprecedented governance over the site. Mark Zuckerberg is Facebook's founder and CEO. He's here for an exclusive interview. Mark, it's good to have you back. Oh, it's good to be back on the show. Thanks for having me. I want to talk about some of this. Yeah, he is. How old are you, sir? This many. Yeah. Are his mom and dad there, present with him while this is happening? We just mentioned that piece in a second, but let's talk about sheer numbers to begin. I mean, it used to be, I thought, when you first started this, there was more of an exclusive small core of people using this, and it had this incredible cool edge. With 175 million people using this around the world, can it retain its cool? Well, it's definitely grown a lot, and now there are people all over the world who are using it, including about a million a week. New people in the U.S. alone are signing up. So, I mean, people are using it just to communicate and share information with their friends and the people around them. It's about a million here in the U.S. So they gave a big giant number a minute ago, but here in the U.S. it equates to about a million a week, which is still a lot.
Everyone's just using it for their small circle of people. So let's do the math here. You say a million new people a week here in the U.S. alone. You're going to hit 200 million users then in the near future. Oh, hopefully soon, yeah. If I have a Facebook page, can it be cool? I mean, I'm not self-deprecating here, but am I the kind of person you... How can Facebook be cool if you don't have a Facebook page? I was going to say... Thank you. Okay, then. That's the ticket. What did he say? I didn't hear him. You're doing it right now. You're getting on Facebook immediately. What did he just say? I didn't hear. He said, I think it's uncool. If you're not on Facebook, you don't. Then I'm uncool. Now Rob will never do it. I'm extremely uncool. The opposite. But I mean, do you want the moms and dads of the world out there? My dad's got a Facebook page. You know what? You and me can start our own little social networking on the web. Let's call it Catbook. I'm out. Would you like to buy a cap book from us, Eddie? I'll sell you all the rights. The site helps everyone connect with people and share information with the people that they want to stay connected with. That's really something that's applicable for everyone. It started off with young students and now people all over the world and all different age groups and different demographics are using the site. That's something that I think we'll continue to see grow. Let's go through this controversy because it did kind of explode here. There is this fear that
Matt's going to dig into this controversy. Get him, Matt. After you released a statement that seemed to indicate that what people put on their Facebook pages, picture, content, information, would be retained in the archives of the company. A lot of people freaked out about that, Mark. And since you've modified that, explain to me exactly what the situation is now. Sure. There's a terms that the site is governed by. And, you know, frankly, we made a mistake in the last version. He needs to have a spokesperson. Yeah. I think he needs an Ashley. Honestly. Because I think that he comes across too stiff-necked, you know? A little too stiff to be the face of the company. Plus, I honestly... I think you've got to get out of eighth grade before you're allowed to do these kinds of things on your own, you know?
Issued some unclear language. Our intent is that people own their own information. That's one of the things that makes Facebook really special. It's a service that people are using to put up information that they want to share with people that often is really personal, private, intimate. And one of the big differences that Facebook makes is it gives you great controls over who you share your information with. So if I have a Facebook page and I put on that page pictures of myself, me and my wife, my kids. information, if I decide to take that page down and not be a Facebook user in the near future, all of that comes with me. You don't keep it in some archive. Yeah, so what will happen is that none of that information will be shared with anyone. But I bet he keeps it. Did you not answer that question, sir? So, I mean, you control exactly who you're sharing that information with. So you can say, I want to put up this photo, but I only want to share it with these people in my family or these friends from high school. And that's not answering the question. If you sign up for the site and then you decide that you want to take that information down, then none of that information will be shared with anyone going forward. Let's talk about business. There are reports that this company is still not breaking even. How do they not break even, man? What? I'm sure we'll have more of that on Monday. Okay, and we've got to get to this email. I still haven't got the email about the guy. And if you want to chime in on this, basically the deal is we got an email from a guy that's a waiter. He works at a chain restaurant.
And he waited on his ex-girlfriend and her new dude. And so, you know, is that an awkward situation? Yeah. And, you know, have you? Yeah. All right, Eddie. And have you ever been there? 570-1053. Up to 78 down the Villarancho Parkway. You've got a minor delay down the coastline, South 5 through Solana Beach. Other than that, westbound traffic on the 894.52 all cooperating. 805 northbound, still a bit tight out of Curti Mates over the 52. I'm Rick Lawrence on Rock 105.3. Mikey Show. Hey, Mikey. What's up? Hey, it's P1 Matt. Hey, I just want to thank you for hooking me up with Sleep Train. Went there two days ago. We got a Stearns and Foster just like you and went to Santee Sleep Train. We got the bed for a price that I can't even mention on the radio. And then they gave us all the accessories, the sheets, a really nice bed frame, the mattress cover, you name it, everything half off. You slept on it yet? No, we get it delivered tonight. Lucky. Can't wait. I love it, dude. We didn't get the exact same one you got. They showed me the one you got, but we got one of the other Sturds and the Fosters, and they're all nice. They're so awesome. That's awesome, dude. That makes me happy. Call me back and tell me tomorrow morning how your first night's sleep was on that sleep chain mattress. Yeah, I might have to take Friday off. Ladies and gentlemen, there is a full show podcast available for you right now at MikeyShow.com. The entire show is podcastable. That is special. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey, man. Are you going to play the February song today? Yeah. Hey, man. This is the last day of February. That's like two and a half weeks. I got more teeth than you got days. So February, what you got to say? You're unfair. Your holidays suck. Except for a few. Mardi Gras, okay. But it made me pew!
February, February, February, February, February. This is an awful song. No, it isn't. Eddie, it's terrible. You need to get into my paradigm, bro. Mike, we're better than this. I think so. And thanks for the VD. What? You know, Valentine's Day. Whoa. I love chocolate more when it's hard change. February, February, February, February, February, you're unfair. February, February, February, February, you're unfair. February, February, February, February, you're unfair. Whoops. Thank you, Mike. So good. People really like the old February song. This is great. We really do get a lot of people that like that. No. Everyone. Which I don't understand it. Everybody that's on Facebook loves that song. That's the truth. And they write about it on our walls. Yeah, and the status is cute. Yeah, the status will be like, I'm enjoying... The B-Rob song, February right now. Yeah, and then I commented on it, and I'm like, LOL, LOL, me too! Exclamation, exclamation. And that started a thread of people commenting on it. And it got crazy. And I poked it. Yeah.
I am really missing out. Yeah, that sounds like fun. In all honesty, I talked to one of my best friends from high school who I have not spoken to in seven years. Not one time, not seen him. And he was one of my best friends in high school. And he freaking MySpace IM'd me the other day. Like, it was nothing. And we talked. MySpace? Or, I mean, Facebook IM'd me. That's right. So you got a booty call. It was no Facebook. So it was non-booty call. She got a Facebook call. She got a poke. I talked to my best friend back home yesterday on the phone. Oh, my gosh, Rob. That's great. So did I, but this is someone I haven't seen since high school. February, February, February. You're on fair. That's a really good one. Oh, man. Just wait till March. I can't wait. I can't wait. During the commercial break, I did my daily begging of Sky to get on Facebook. It's getting kind of sad. I mean, every day. She did her daily no. Every day, bro. Hold tight. In another couple months, this will burn out. He'll be over it. Facebook will be the obsolete MySpace. That's right. It's well put. MySpace had its time. Oh, it sure did. MySpace is still kicking, dude. It's not like it's dead. If you like booty calls. Time. Every time. People should know. All right.
Do you think that that will catch on eventually, that MySpace is the new? It already has caught on. Everybody's already used it for. But you're the only one that says that. What do you people use it for? I don't use it for that. Yes, you do. Roman Obin. What? Oh. You're so dumb. You're so dumb. I hate you. You love me. All right, I'm going to read this email. Okay. We better, yeah. Let's get into this. Let's move on. Says, Mikey, I have a weird question. I have a weird situation that happened to me last night and I wanted to see what you thought about it. I work at a chain restaurant and was shocked to see my ex-girlfriend sitting in my section with her new guy. She didn't know I worked there because I just got the job. But talk about the most awkward situation. We've been broken up for about six months. Don't really have feelings for her anymore. It was just really weird seeing her with another guy. I didn't know what to do. I ended up waiting on them and didn't make it a big deal. She left me a voicemail later on my phone saying that it was good to see me and hoped it wasn't too weird. It was. What would you guys have done? Have you ever run into an ex like that? That's P1 Kevin. There is one observation I made about Kevin's email. I'm going to underline it in red. It's the part where he said...
Oh, yes, here it is. It's the part where he said, I don't really have feelings for her anymore. That's the part I'm going to underline in red. Not because he thought it was weird. Because it's fair. I mean, listen, you can think it's weird. I mean, I think most people, that would be very normal for most people to think it was weird. The only thing that I think that I am kind of like, hmm. is that it's only been six months, which isn't that long, really. No. No. Right. And he says he doesn't really have feelings for her anymore. Listen, you wrote us an email, bro. You wrote us an email. It was on your mind enough to where you were like, I don't know. Listen, if somebody really doesn't have feelings anymore, and they see somebody, they see them, whatever, blah, blah, blah, you know, next day, no big one. They're not even thinking about it anymore. Dude wrote us.
And said, what do you think? And Kevin, I will be more than happy to tell you what I think. I think that it's possible. I don't know. Could be wrong. It's possible you might still have some lingering feelings about said gal. Well, I think the word really. In that, Scott, I was going to say that. I don't really have feelings for her anymore. Right. Take that word out and read it again. I don't have feelings for her anymore. Totally. I mean, like they are so different. Yeah. They are so different. And so I think that maybe a little bit, but who knows? But it's awkward anyway. And then the awkward part of it. OK, so the awkward part of it, because that's the main thing, right? I mean, you're at work and you don't expect to see your ex sitting there. And then when you do, they're there with their new person. And what I think would be most uncomfortable is the whole, you know, we've had a relationship. And can I tell you about the specials? That's weird, okay? That's weird to say, okay? Because in your mind, you're going, we've had a relationship, and then you're like, hey, did you guys see what the specials are today? That sounds good. I'll have that. Would you like that? Oh, and I know you like Arnold Palmer, so should I go ahead and just write that? I'll get you that. I'll get you that. And I know you're also, you don't like onions. And I know you're allergic to fish. And you're allergic to fish, so we know I'm not going there with you. I'll tell you about the fish special. What do you want, guy?
I've never made love to you. And so what can I get for you? So that's awkward. And then the other awkward part is, is that after you walk away and you go into the kitchen, in your mind, you're like, I wonder what conversation is going on back at that table right now. Because she's obviously going, you know, the date is probably going, what was that? There's a recognition. Yeah. The reason the what was that was because it was obviously you guys know each other. So, you know, who is that? And does she answer truthfully? Does she say, well, that was my ex-boyfriend? Or does she say, you know, that was an old friend of mine? Yeah. You know, because if she says ex-boyfriend, if you're the new guy, do you go, well, let's leave? Yeah. Or when he's coming back out of the kitchen with the bowl of fart soup. Yes. That's what I'm talking about. And you're like, are they still going to be there? It depends on if the fart soup's fresh. It is the special. I would never leave. I would never leave. If I was with a girl and her ex was the waiter, I would never say to her, we're getting out of here. We're leaving. Never in a million years, but if that's the way you roll. I would, man, because I would not want anybody messing with my food. So you would be thinking it was that? I wouldn't be like,
intimidated or anything like that, I just wouldn't want my food to be messed with. I don't know the guy. I don't know if he's that type of a dude. If it was Boston Rob, he's, you know, honking a loogie in my hamburger. You are not. Rob, you would not. Now I wouldn't, but... You would in the past? That would be you? Back in the day, dude. You'd be that guy? You know, if he ordered some soup, I'd probably fart in it a couple times. I can't hear that. And then go around the corner and laugh. So, he's eating my fat. You're so stupid. Bro up, bro. Oh, my gosh. Maybe the stupidest words I've ever heard come out of his mouth. Ha, ha, ha. He's eating my fat. Right. Now I wouldn't do it, but I could see someone young. Now just my boogers. Yeah. I think it takes a very particular kind of guy to be doing something to somebody's food. A crazy guy. That would be crazy. That new guy doesn't have anything to do with it. You worked at a restaurant. Did people mess with people's food? Did you ever mess with people's food? Oh, I never did because I'm a girl. I gave him the boob salad.
I'm sorry, Skye. People pay extra for that. I'll take seconds. You're so dumb. How many times do I have to tell you today you are so dumb? I'm just having fun. I don't know what happened. Yeah, people mess with people. I wear bra. Okay. Huge ones. And what if the relationship was like a bad breakup, you know? Is there a possibility that this girl did know that that dude worked there? I think that if you are with her on this date, you're asking yourself, did you know that? That creeps me out. Yeah. Happened to show up at a restaurant that dude works at with her new guy. My ex came into the restaurant that I was working with. But it was kind of a reverse thing. Oh, yeah. He knew I worked there. And he also knew that the new guy I was dating worked there with me. Really? Fight. Oh, yeah. And the boo. Dude. After the second time he pulled that, the boo took him outside. No. And did what? No. What are you going to say? Stop eating here?
What do you say? Yeah, he said, well, because his mother owned the restaurant, so he said, never come back here. No way. Or this will be trouble for you. Really? Oh, yeah, it got bad. Did the guy say... I love the pancakes. Best hash in town. That's right. I want the boob salad again. Well, I think he said something like he loves the waitress and that didn't go over too well. Did he really? No way. Yeah, he was trying to get me back and he was going in there and fully knew the boob was working. This was one of many that was trying to get me back. For the record. It's like a movie. Yeah, it was pretty scary. Yes, also when the boob and I got married and they said if there's anyone here... This guy came and raised his hand. P1 Sarah. Yes. You waited on who? I waited on my ex-boyfriend and his new wife. Is it weird? Yeah, it was horrible. I had like a mini anxiety attack. How long were you guys together for? Two years. My high school sweetheart. How long after?
How long after you guys broke up was it? I think it was about a year. Could have been worse. They could have asked you for the high chair and you could have been like, oh, you got to look at their kid. They ended up having a baby and a shotgun wedding. It was like really sudden and weird. Did you do anything to their food? No. You're a good person. Girls don't do that stuff. It's the guys that do that stuff. P1 Pringles. Yes. What happened with you? Well. Me and my dad have a contracting business and we were going to this job and I had recently just broke up with my girlfriend I was going out with for like six months and we had like this huge breakup, really bad. And we get to the house and I'm looking at it and it looks kind of sketchy and she opens the door and I was just like freaking out. Like I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what to say. What did you do and what did you say? Well...
She went and got her parents, and then me and my dad went to the house, and her roof had been leaking, and it was her room, so she was in there the whole time, and I was just... Ugh, weird. Dude, that's... It was really strange. That would be very uncomfortable. No, thank you. Be very uncomfortable. Thanks. Appreciate it. P1 Tiny. Hey. Hey. So, yeah, my ex-boyfriend of four and a half years came out with all my friends. That's kind of weird. Huh. That would be kind of weird. It's weird, like, to see. And we've been broken up for, like, two years. But it's still really strange to, like, walk into a room to hang out with your friends. And then it's like, oh, hey. Yeah. Hey, ex-boyfriend. See, and that's kind of different because it's one thing. Because you kind of expect people to maybe have the same friends you do. But you have control over that environment.
Mm-hmm. You know? Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's the thing. If you want, you don't have to go. Yeah. Knowing that he might be there, but at work, it's... Working? What are you going to do? We're going to have to have all that flair on and be like... The flair. The flair? The flair's important. Yeah. I'm sorry, what's the... Extra pieces? Yeah. At least 15. What is the flair? Or when you go tchotchkes? Mike, you got to go to tchotchkes to find out what the flair is. All right. The best. I'll be heading to tchotchkes. P1 Jason? Yeah, how you doing? What's up? So when I met my now wife... She worked in a restaurant with my best friend. He introduced us. And I didn't know until after we started dating and I would go visit her at the restaurant that her ex worked there at the restaurant with her. And apparently he would go in the back when I came in and throw fits and like slam plates around and act all ridiculous every time I came into the restaurant because he thought she was bringing me in just to get at him. Right. Wow. Nice. Very awesome. It's kind of similar to what happened with Sky. Yeah. Kind of the same situation. Going into the work, guy was going in there. He knew that that's where, that they worked together. It's the same thing. That's what that dude was doing to you. Yeah. He was trying to get one over. Yeah. That's what I'm saying. Nobody's better than the boo. Check this out. That's the truth. Nobody beats the boo. Somebody must be awake. You should have heard what she said earlier. Okay, Eddie, that was. Hey.
Speaking out of school. I didn't say anything earlier. My love. You didn't. Besides, you can't podcast the whole show. It was nothing bad. It was nothing bad. We were just talking about your love for classic cars. Now we're speaking directly to the booth. You're going to make him sit there and be like, oh my gosh, what did she say? That's not cool. Hey, what's up, dude? All right, now check this out. Check this out. Now, last week we were talking about this guy from CNBC named Rick Santelli. He freaked out on TV, okay? This was kind of a little bit of his flip out. In terms of modifications, I'll tell you what, I have an idea. You know, the new administration's big on computers and technology. How about this, president and new administration? Why don't you put up a website to have people vote on the Internet as a referendum to see? if we really want to subsidize the losers' mortgages, or would we like to at least buy cars and buy houses in foreclosure and give them to people that might have a chance to actually prosper down the road and reward people that could carry the water instead of drink the water? Okay. Wow. Calm it down, sir. Now, apparently, the White House press secretary was speaking, and he referenced...
Rick Santelli. And, you know, he said, because this made big news when he did this, when Santelli did this flip out. Yeah. It was kind of all over the news. We played it. We talked about it. And so the president's press secretary kind of references him and says, you know, in regards to that criticism, blah, blah, blah. Rick Santelli then says that the White House press secretary was threatening him. Shut up. Well, he went on the Today Show, this guy Rick Santelli, and Matt Lauer doesn't let things go. Love it. And so when we come back, we're going to play you the audio of Matt Lauer not letting it go. And what I mean by that is asking the question, Santelli answers, and it's just not satisfactory for Matt Lauer. He won't let it go. He won't let him off the hook. It's next. What's a P1? Welcome back because before we went to break, I told you that Matt Lauer was going to go after this guy, Rick Santelli. If you don't know who he is. Hey, Rick Santelli. Hey, Rick Santelli. His favorite food, the parmesan. That's how you pronounce it. He likes the macaroni. He likes the olive garden. Okay.
So here's what Rick Santelli said. In terms of modifications, I'll tell you what, I have an idea. You know, the new administration's big on computers and technology. How about this, president and new administration? Why don't you put up a website to have people vote on the Internet as a referendum to see if we really want to subsidize the losers' mortgages or would we like to at least buy cars and buy houses in foreclosure and give them to people that might have a chance to actually prosper down the road and reward? People that could carry the water instead of drink the water. Oh, yeah. So he says all this and the White House press secretary responds to it. And Rick Santelli says that he's being threatened. Oh, come on. So Matt Lauer has him on the show and wants to talk about it. Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, commented, called you out in the briefing room. And after you heard his comments, you said that he was threatening you. Are you serious about that? Listen, let's put it this way. Matt, you're married, are you not? Yeah, I am. Okay. This is more about the feelings my wife had when she watched the body language and listened to what he was saying. This is the White House press secretary. You think he's going to threaten you on national television?
Well, let's rephrase the question. Do we think it's normal to be named by name as opposed to the general media at large, say the cable guy or some of the comments? I find and my wife finds and many of my friends find that the direct confrontation and pointing me out by name just is not ordinary. Rick, I'm sure your wife is a lovely person. However, what Robert Gibbs said was basically he was, and I'm paraphrasing here, he was saying he's not sure that as a former trader and current television personality, you're living in the same kind of neighborhoods where people are struggling to pay their mortgages. He wasn't threatening you. Well, listen, I'm not saying threatening. To be pinpointed specifically, I find very unusual. And I think that it's more of a decision for you as the press, for all the people on the lawn that giggled at the joke about caffeine, and it was funny. But how would they like to be pinpointed specifically? I think that's the issue at hand. I don't want to make more out of this.
You know, here I am, and I want to continue to do what I've always done, and that is question motivation. Whether it's the Fed chairman, and we... Right, but the only thing I would say... We know that he wants the economy to cheer down the road, but is it true? The only thing I would say, Rick, is if you go out of your way to call out the president of the United States, you have to expect that his representative may go out of his way to call you out. Doesn't that go with the territory? What we're really saying is calling out the... As a member of the press, do I not get to ask a question or question the system? And as the press secretary, doesn't he have the right to ask you a question? He certainly does. It would be nice if he did it face to face, but I don't know that he needs to throw out my name. You did it on television. That's right. Wouldn't it be nice if you did it face to face? I don't understand why this dude all of a sudden. Why Matt Lauer hasn't won an Emmy? I don't either. Well, I mean, if this guy had just owned up to, backed up his statement, because there was nothing wrong, or I don't think there was too, too much wrong with his statement, and just said, you know what?
Yeah, I might not be living in that neighborhood, but my neighborhood's heading into that, you know, heading that way to being more and more broke and just kind of stood firm with what he said and didn't back down and didn't, like, try to go, well, I didn't say threatened. I think that that's a great point. In fact, one of the things that I've always said is that, well, I haven't always said it, actually. You always have. I haven't always said it. I wish I'd always said it. Why do you always say that? But one of the things that I think is really important is that if you can't, and I don't know what else to call it, so I just call it Living in the Truth. Oh, Living on the Truth. Living in the Truth. Living in the Truth. It's not a song. Living in the Truth. No, it's not. You can't help yourself from telling the truth. It's Living on the Truth. It's Living on the Truth. Stop it. Oh, okay. Sorry, Mike. But if you could do that. then you have no issues defending whatever it is. You know what I mean? It's when you get a little sideways that somebody calls you on something and you got to go... You know what I mean? And that's what it looks like. It looks like this dude's all of a sudden backpedaling to try to cover up something that... Dude, you were in the heat of the moment and you made a statement and just stick by it. Yeah, and if that's the truth, you can say that and you're...
probably good to go. If you go, you know what, man, that was kind of a dumb thing for me to say. I shouldn't have said that. Yeah, or do that, or go, you know what? I don't know why I did that. He called me out, and I was stupid about it. I like that. I like that. There's a TV show that is fantastic. The TV show is called 48 Hours Mystery, and they have a series that they're doing within 48 Hours Mystery right now. And it comes on Saturday nights at 10 o'clock. We TiVo it. But I'm sure they would love it if I told you to watch it live because they appreciate that, which is great. You can do it either way. It's just that it comes on at 10 o'clock at night, and I'm usually Nai Nai. Yeah, if you're crazy enough to stay up that late. On Saturday? If you're a raver, you know. Come on. But this show is absolutely fantastic, 48 Hours Mystery. And they have... a series that they're doing right now called Live to Tell. And I love these kinds of stories. They're sort of the I shouldn't be alive type stories. And this week they're focusing on a man named John Silverwood and his family. John is from San Diego. Here's the promo. It was John's idea to sail around the world. I never thought anything like what happened to us would happen. It was like mass hysteria.
And in desperation, we yelled, Mayday, Mayday, Mayday. I heard John scream. There was just blood covering the whole deck. My two little kids hugging each other, screaming, I don't want to die. They're shaking. I don't want to die. John Silverwood and his family, they're from San Diego. They leave their comfortable sort of suburb surroundings. That's right. And they go out to the high seas, have a little adventure. And as they set sail aboard their 55-foot catamaran with their four kids, they don't have any idea really the kind of emotional baggage that they're bringing into the situation and suddenly hit a reef in the dead of night near French Polynesia. And John is pinned to the deck by a 2,500-pound mast. What? What? And as John is bleeding, his wife, Jean,
Desperately faces the decision of her life. Does she abandon her husband and save her kids or risk all of their lives in an attempt to save him? It's a situation that nobody would ever want to be in. I just got chills. And John Silverwood is with us in the studio right now. Oh, he lived. Oh, wow. This is what's great. This is what's great, is that John is here with us right now. And, John, is this right? Your wife was on the CBS Morning Show nationally this morning on CBS This Morning. Is that the deal? Yeah, it was my wife, Jean, and Amelia, and Camille, my daughters. Okay, I need you to talk right up close. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. You can pull that thing. There you go, so you can get it right up close. All right. So your wife, she is in New York this morning? Yeah. Now, the way they're... Brilliant. Of course. It's really cool what they're doing, actually. They have her on this morning, and they very purposefully do not have you on with her, right? Yeah. Yeah, it's working. The reason is that they're kind of setting it up like, hey, you've got to watch the story this weekend, and they're kind of setting it up like, is John still with us? Wow. Now, we here in San Diego, we have the benefit of, well, we get to know. The answer is unequivocally.
He's sitting in front of us. And so the answer is... Yes, please. Yes, he is here. But his story is going to be told on Live to Tell, which is coming on TV tomorrow night at 10 o'clock on CBS. And, John, let's walk through this story, if we can. Walk through this a little bit. Before you guys take off for this adventure, tell us what your life was like. And what I'm talking about is, what was your life... Because they mentioned the emotional... baggage here. So talk to us about what your married life and what your life in general looked like at the time. By the time we got out to the reef? No, before you even left. What was life like? I was a developer here in San Diego. I was a general contractor and I built houses. My wife and I always wanted to go sailing. I was the primary instigator. I've been sailing all my life. We were lucky. We worked hard, and we had a chance to take all four of our kids and get out on the ocean, and I took it. And where were you going to be taken off from? We took off from New England. Oh, wow. And sailed to Bermuda, through the Caribbean, and through the canal down to South America, and then out into the deep Pacific. How long, how many years ago was this? It was in 2003 that we took off. 2003. And we shipwrecked in 2005. Oh, my. Wow, so you were on the ocean for a couple years?
A couple years and over 18,000 open ocean miles. No way. Before you took off, what kind of experience did you have? I'd been sailing since I was 12, you know, and then I quit college and hitchhiked home in a snowstorm and bought another boat when I was 19 and sailed that through the Caribbean, got back when I was 21 and went back to school. You know, I owned a couple boats after that until I bought this big one and put my kids on. So how old were your kids at the time? Camille. Was three and Jack was seven. Amelia was 12 and Ben was 14. Who do you have with you today? I've got Jack here. Jack, how old are you? Right now I'm 13. How old were you when this went down? About seven, eight years old? No, I was nine. Nine years old. How vivid are all these memories in your mind? I can see them pretty well, but I've lost them over the years. You've lost a little bit of it? Yeah. Okay, so John. You decide that you're going to go sailing. Sail the ocean blue. And by the way, you've been gone two years sailing before anything happened. And so when you left, how long did you plan on sailing with your family? It was open-ended. It started out that we'd sail for a year and just see how it went. And so the turning point came when we were in the Caribbean and we decided to go for it and went through the canal. And so we were on our way to Australia, actually.
We were about 350 miles west of Tahiti on our way to Australia when we hit this reef right after dark. If listeners wanted to go on to Google right now and they wanted to Google an image of the boat that you were traveling on so that they could get a visual image of the kind of boat that we're talking about here, what would we Google? You could try jsilverwood.com, which we just got running. Go to Amazon. They've got pictures on Amazon. Of this kind of boat? Right. Okay, but it makes it real easy if you say... What kind of boat is it? JaySilverwood.com is your website, right? Yeah, yeah. Or just go to CBSNews.com and pull up 48 Hours. Got it. They've got a lot of stuff on there, too. Just for listeners that are listening right now and they want to know what the boat looks like... Because they're trying to get an idea, because obviously this is the kind of boat that can take being out in the ocean and obviously sailing all the way to Australia. Yeah. So you're out there for a couple of years. What were those two years like before the accident? Yeah, yeah. They were great, and they were horrific sometimes, too. You know, I mean, especially my older kids, the teenage ones.
They miss their friends, you know, they miss their routines, they miss the Internet, they miss video games, ba-ba-ba-ba. The younger ones, Jack and Camille at that time, they enjoyed it a lot more. The older ones, once my oldest son, Ben, saw the Pacific swells, you know, out like in Morea and places like that, he got the program. And we were all really enjoying ourselves by the time we had this shipwreck. The first couple months, you know, the first half of year was tough. Let's talk about just the normal stuff before we get to the actual accident. But what what what kind of normal life would be like out there? Would you guys would you pull into a city and sort of dock up in a city, get off the boat, go grab some groceries, stock the boat up and then take off and have groceries with you? How did you actually do day to day life? And also, how did you leave your life here in San Diego? You would think you would have mortgages and bills and all this sort of thing back here that you would have to take care of. How did you sort of. close things out and then how did you actually live day to day on the boat wow that's a lot of questions but uh you know we uh we uh we had friends of ours to stay in our house okay i didn't have a mortgage cool like i said you know we'd been fortunate and worked really hard and uh as far as you know what when we'd show up someplace if the place was cool
We'd stay. We weren't in any hurry to leave. You know, we were in Panama for a month. We went up in the Andes Mountains for over a month, you know, up within the Inca ruins and that kind of stuff. That is incredible. We spent over a month in the Galapagos. Same for the Marquesas. Can you imagine? And out in Tahiti. You know, I mean, we were out at Wahine, Morea, Bora Bora for eight months. And before we took off for Australia. So if we saw a place we liked, we stayed. If we didn't like it. We did buy groceries and take off. Yeah, and take off. Okay, but when you were staying in a place, you would live on the boat, obviously, right? You would live on the boat, and then you would just stay around. What an incredible life. So everything sounds like it's going great for a while. And then talk to us about when you hit that two-year mark, you're out in French Polynesia. Is that right? Right, yeah. Dumb guys like me, I have no idea where this is. I mean, I've heard of it, but I don't actually know where this is geographically. Where are we talking? Well, all you got to do is go about 8,500 miles west of San Diego. Look at his son. He's like, what, Dad? Like, really? Like, anyone's going to know who that is, Dad? And then go 1,500 miles south, and you're there. It's far away, and it took a long time to sail there. We would do...
Our longest passage was about 3,300 miles nonstop where we saw nobody for over two weeks. Wow. Okay, so you get to French Polynesia. And what happened? Well, you know, we hang out. We had a lot of fun in Polynesia. We were there for eight months. We took off. And we'd been out at sea a couple days. And it was just after dark when we struck this reef. The bows of the boat were breaking off. We had huge seas breaking on top of the boat, breaking right over the entire boat. And this eight-story tall mast came down as my son Ben and I were going up. We were trying to tie the life raft down better so these big waves wouldn't wash the raft off the deck of the boat. I've got to write things down. This is Jack. This is Jack. Jack Attack. Actually, his name is not Jack Attack. No, that's his name.
So, now let me ask you, Jack, do you remember this night or no? I remember it pretty well. You do? Yeah. Nine years old, you must have been very scared. Oh, yeah. I was freaking out. Were you, at the time that you guys hit the reef, were you sleeping? No, we were watching Drop Dead Gorgeous. Really? That's a good movie. That's a great movie. I'm not going to lie. I enjoyed it. And I'm guessing you were watching this on a DVD. You guys had movies, right? Yeah. And so you're watching that. And how do you remember, what was the first thing that you were aware of? It was like the boat randomly started shaking. Yeah, I had no idea what it was. So everything went from kind of normal to shaking. Yeah, it was just like an earthquake or something like that. So, John, for somebody that doesn't know much about sailing, is there a way? How do you avoid reefs? And what happened? How did you end up not avoiding this one? Well, you know.
We had had a problem. The boom became detached from the mast, and we took the autopilot off, and we were drifting for about two or three hours trying to fix it. And then it came dark, and I think that's when the current swept us onto this reef. And obviously, the way you stay away from it is just stay away from it. Right, right, right, but the autopilot. Okay, I got you. So there was a combination of different things. We'd been in and out of countless different reef kind of places, and it's just kind of like our number came up. So here you are. You're on this reef. The waves are crashing down around you. And the mast comes down. And you said you were standing with your son, Ben, when it happened? Or how did this go down? Yeah, we were kind of crawling up, you know, because there's these huge waves breaking on deck. And the next thing we knew, we were both flat on our back. And I thought, this is impossible. I looked and I could see this eight-story mast, 2,500 pounds, laying across my legs. Oh, my God. And I screamed for Ben because I was worried about him. And the next thing I knew, he was hovering over me with blood dripping off. You know, he'd been hitting the head by the mast on the way down. And, you know, then the first big wave of pain hit me. Oh, man. And I thought my leg was broken. So I latched my hands onto the mast and pulled myself up like a sit-up. And I could see the ends of my bones, you know.
Just white and blood streaming on the deck underneath there. John, where are the rest of your family? They're still down in, like, the main salon area, you know, the main cabin of the boat at that time. And, you know, the next big wave, you know, because it sets a wave, just like we have here. The next set breaks, right? And I'm trapped under the mast, so my head's underwater. I'm bleeding to death, and I can't breathe. Oh, my gosh. And there's no way to get a 2,500-pound mask off. How are you? So you're waiting for the water to rush off of you so you can take a breath. That's how it works. And so as these waves are coming down, you're just having to wait for the water to rush off of you, gulp down some air, and grab some air. And I guess also in between this time, as kind of the dad of the family, you're trying to, like, give direction on this is what we have to do. Well, what I did is I just told Ben, I said, look, man, I'm trapped. You're in charge of the boat. You've got to take care of the family. And that's exactly what he did. And how old was Ben at the time? Ben had just turned 16. Oh, my goodness. And he got a first tourniquet on my leg probably within the first 15 minutes. But it wasn't a good tourniquet because there was so much debris on top of my leg that you couldn't really tighten it up. And the pain at this point must have been excruciating, not to mention salt water.
is rushing onto this wound yeah yeah it was uh it was unimaginable oh my gosh it was terrifying it was it was all those things what sort of first aid kit did you have what were you prepared for at worst we had everything you know i mean we had air splits we had all that kind of stuff but the problem was this these huge waves are breaking on top of the boat i mean the boat is being thrown pieces of the boat are just flying off into the night My wife, who was hysterical, wanted to jump deep down into the main cabin for the medical kit, and my son, Ben, had to restrain her. And a couple seconds after that, one of these waves hit the boat with such force, it just exploded all the storm-proof windows on the boat. She'd have been killed if she was still down there. So we had no medical kit. Oh, wow. So what does the boat look like at this point, then? Both of the bows of the boat are broken off. The life raft is now dropped into the sea. The mast is across the deck, and everybody's on the deck holding on so that they don't get swept off into the sea by these huge waves. These stories are unbelievable. When we come back, we're going to talk to John Moore about what happened next. Up to this point, they have been on a reef, and the bows of the boat have broken off completely.

Hey, let me tell you about Amco. Amco's great, especially if you are one of these folks that has your check engine light on, which I have in my past had that thing come on and not know what to do. And listen, before I met the folks at Amco, I didn't know what a transmission was. about cars and kind of get that the transmission does for your car, kind of what your legs do for you. And when that thing goes out, it's bad. You've got to take your car in and don't take it to the dealership because a lot of times if you do that, what's going to happen is they're going to want to replace the whole thing. Whereas Amco is a lot better about getting you in and getting you out. And so go ahead and take it down to Amco. It's pretty awesome. They will take a look at your car and they will get you dialed in and they will do it.
In a very quick amount of time. So check it out. It's Amco. And they love P1s down at Amco. They don't want to fix what isn't broken. Go check them out. It's Amco AA. Beep, beep. MCO. Why would you take it anywhere else? Oh, great. Is there a problem, officer? Do you know why I stopped you? Well, I'm the new spicy chicken enchilada platter from Taco Bell. So unless you're craving two spicy chicken enchiladas, seasoned rice and beans, chips and chunky salsa for dinner, can't say I do. Wow, you do sound delicious. But that's not the point. If this is about tickets to the policeman's ball... The point is that enchiladas usually take forever, and yet you're ready so quick. I'd say there was speeding involved. Well, there's certainly no law against getting your enchiladas faster. Not to mention, I don't even drive... Tell it to the judge. Say some enchiladas just happen to find their way into your squad cart. Would our little problem go away? Uh, what problem is that? Taco Bell's new spicy chicken enchilada platter. Dr. Phil. I trusted her. She was my uncle. You're probably not. That's weird. Now, it turns out that he took that advice, and I just happened to be trailing his car that night and alerted the cops. And let me tell you something. It does not get any more real life than this. Welcome back. It's Friday morning, 941 a.m. And we have in the studio with us right now, John Silverwood, who's the focus of Live to Tell, which is going to be airing tomorrow night on CBS at 10 o'clock. And this is the story of John taking his family.
On a trip in a 55-foot catamaran. Only they hit a reef and John ended up pinned to the deck by a 2,500-pound mast. There he lay underneath the mast, bleeding, bones broken in two. And his 16-year-old son, Ben, with his own injuries to worry about. Before we went to break, John was saying that Ben was standing over you after the accident happened. Ben is bleeding. He's 16 years old. He's bleeding from the head. And I'm sure that you've got this 2,000-pound mast on you. You're probably worried, is my son okay at the same time, right? Well, that's the first thing I did is I screamed for Ben. And he was over me in an instant. Like I said, I latched my hands on the mast. I pulled myself up, and I saw those bones. The mast had gone clean through my leg. I yelled for rope, and Ben...
Ben got me some rope, and I tried to tie a tourniquet myself, but a wave hit me and knocked me flat. And the next thing I knew, Ben was over me again, and he found these long screwdrivers somehow and used those to tighten up this really tight tourniquet. Wow. That's what saved my life. Really? Oh, my gosh. Because I'd lost. They figured it out. The doctors figured out. I'd lost almost three-quarters of my blood. Oh, my gosh. What? There are no statistics for living with that little blood. What? What? Dang. Three quarters. Especially since I didn't get to a hospital for a day. Okay. Okay. So let's walk through this. Holy crap. I can't. So your wife wants to go down and get the first aid kit. And like before we went to break, you said you guys were prepared. You had a lot of stuff. Now, let's say she had been able to get to the first aid kit, which she wasn't. And your son, Ben. Had to restrain her. She wanted to go dive into the water because at that point, that part of the boat was submerged. Is that right? It was flooded. It was flooded, okay. It was flooded and the waves were breaking right on top of it. She wanted to jump in there, even though it was flooded. She wanted to jump in there, grab the first aid kit, retrieve it, come out and help you. And thank goodness she didn't because a big wave came, busted out those storm windows. She would have died. Yep. And the first aid kit was lost. Now.
If she had been able to get it, what would have been in that first aid kit that could have helped you? I don't think there was a thing in there that could have helped because we didn't have plasma. We didn't have blood. Or a crane to get the mast off you. Or a crane. Do you have anything for pain? No. In the medical kit we did. You did? Yeah. You did. But that was gone. Yeah. And you know what? I don't think anything we had. was on the level of what... What was needed. I wouldn't have put a dent in where I was. Yeah. Because you were in excruciating pain. Well, yeah, because, you know, every time, you know, about every 15 seconds, a wave breaks. And every time a wave would break, that mass would lift a little bit off the deck and come back down. No! No! Stop it! Oh, it's just the way it was. Oh, my goodness. That's crazy. Okay. Your son Jack is with you. Yeah. Your son is 13. At the time, he was nine. Right. Where are you during this ordeal? I'm up on the deck with my little sister, and I was holding the EPIRB. It sends the signals out to satellites. Trying to find you? Yeah. How does that system work, John? Yeah, Jack had a critical job. If he didn't keep that antenna upright, no signal goes out. The signal goes up to a satellite. In our case, the signal went up 25,000 miles, hit a high-orbit satellite.
came back down and was picked up in Canberra, Australia. But the problem was it said that we were in trouble, but it didn't tell anybody where we were. Are you kidding? And it left them with a search area of 2.1 million square miles, which is bigger than the United States. How? Why? What? What went wrong with that? Well, there's very few satellites in that region of the Pacific. And so they had to wait. for the satellites to do several loops around the planet until they finally got a fix on where we were. Is that the way that it works now? Or have they updated it? Or no, if you're in that part of the world, that's just the way it is. If you're in that part of the world, you should be more careful. Oh, my goodness. Okay, that kind of puts it in perspective. Okay, so every 15 seconds, a 2,500-pound mast is crashing down upon the legs that have been crushed where bones are sticking out. Yeah. And it's causing you, I'm guessing, a great deal of pain. And so what is the first thing that you do to react? What's the first thing? What do you think? What are we going to do? I was just gritting my teeth. And I had to deal with this sensation that overcame me.
And recognized that I was dying. And this all happened over a period of time because I was stuck under that mask for hours. I didn't get out for three and a half hours. And I wound up calling Jack and Camille and my kids. And I told them that, you know, if I go to sleep, it's good because I won't be in pain. I won't be shivering like I am right now. And I left it at that. Were you shivering so hard that your body was just sort of shaken? Yeah, my teeth cracked. What? I had to get some of my teeth fixed. What do you mean? Because when you grit hard enough, your teeth cracked. My. Holy crap. Oh, my goodness, John. Oh, my goodness. It was hard. I'm guessing that for a period of time, the family was hysterical. Yeah, my wife kind of got very disoriented.
to say the least you know she'd crawl over to me on her knees and she'd be talking you know like it was just another day and wow it wasn't ben was driving the bus my 16 year old son i mean he became a man in in 15 seconds you know and he took was was ben the one it was ben the one that said okay this is what we got to do this is what you you know uh you grab this you do this is that what kind of how it went ben ben was doing every bit of that he was restraining his mother And Jack, do you remember him telling you what he needed you to do? Yeah, sort of. But he just said to look for anything that could really help. Yeah. And then he had you also hold the satellite deal? Yeah, that was, yeah. And what's your sister? Yeah. How old was your sister at the time? I think she was five. Okay. Does she remember any of this? Now? Not really. Not really? A little bit. Okay. And so. At the three-hour point, how did you get out? Well, the boat was rocked by the impact of a really huge wave. And I looked on the deck. You know, I'm laying flat on my back, and I see the mast lift higher than it ever did. And in that moment, I pushed as hard as I could, and I pushed myself out from underneath it, and the mast slammed back down. Oh, my goodness. Now, describe that feeling when you know you're free of it. Well.
You know, we had a couple other issues, so I wasn't really overjoyed. But the best part of it was to see that my son Ben could tie a lower tourniquet and a better tourniquet. I mean, it was three and a half hours later, but he was able to do that. And then Jack wound up swimming across the cockpit, and he grabbed this blue bungee cord that his sister needed. And then my daughter Amelia, she tied another tourniquet on my leg. They were tying them everywhere just trying to stop the blood. Little kids, man. That's amazing. Little kids are having the wherewithal to be able to do this kind of stuff. And so what happens with your wife? Tell me about the decision that she has to make and what brought the decision about. All right. Well, my wife Jean goes full circle, right? First, she's disoriented. You know, she's in shock completely. And then she reassembles her senses. And Ben. has seen this is now like five hours later it's way into the morning you know it's like 1 30 coming on two in the morning and ben sees this part of the reef that as the tide goes out he thinks it's safe he thinks that we can make it there and ben alone realizes that the boat's being obliterated and if the family stays on it we're all going to drown right where we are so we've got to evacuate so he tells my wife that he's going to take the the flares and he's going to take the satellite distress beacon that jack's been holding and he's going for it
and he drops into the raging surf and takes off. And he comes back out, and he grabs Camille and swims her in. He comes back out for Jack, brings Jack in, and then finally the only guy that's on the boat is me because there's no way to get me off the boat alive. There's no way to get me to that reef. The raft collapsed when the bows were ripped off the boat, and it's tangled in rigging and everything else. Ben doesn't think that the raft can be got out. And at 2 o'clock in the morning, like a crazed woman, my wife decides she's going to get the raft out. And she goes back out into the surf. She's getting cut eight ways until Sunday in the coral. And she climbs up on the bows of the boat. And she's pushing with her legs and trying to get this raft out. Now, the other concern that I have at this point is that there's a lot of bodies in the water with a lot of blood on them. Yes. Yeah. Well, what happens with that is... Ben finds a hacksaw blade laying on the reef, and he goes out there with his mother, and he's sawn through the stainless steel. And after about 40 minutes, they actually free this life raft. Wow. And when they free that life raft, they save my life. You know, I get saved a bunch. But Ben and Amelia and my wife, they swim that raft out to this last bit of boat.
Somehow I'm able to help them and we lower me into that life raft. And then they swim that raft and they wait for a big wave. And then they surf the raft over the coral and it winds up in this little tide pool. And my daughter Amelia stands in the water chest high the rest of the night until dawn. And the life raft is ripped to shreds, right? And I'm bleeding a lot. And all that blood's leaking out of the bottom of the raft into the water. And Amelia's the one that's up there chest high in water freezing. looking for sharks, and you can hear the fish out there. Flapping in the water. Well, you can hear them. They're all reef feeders, you know. They're black-tipped reef sharks. Okay, okay, okay. Wow. And so what time of morning is it now? Well, I mean, that was a long, hard night, you know. We finally got, the raft got into the reef pool maybe 2.30 in the morning, and then dawn comes. And at dawn, Ben thinks he sees this flash off in the sky, way off in the distance. And he thinks it's the sun reflecting off the windshield of a plane, right? So he takes our last flare and fires it. And a couple minutes go by, and then the form of a plane coming right at us takes shape. And everybody's jumping up and down. Everybody's ecstatic, you know? There's a search plane. But how does a search plane help you when you're sitting on a reef?
So they do see it, but they can't do anything about it. There's nothing they can do. And then the search plane disappears. It goes off over the horizon. And then it comes back from the same direction, you know. And then it goes back over the horizon. We can't see the plane. And then it comes back again. And it wiggles its wings and goes back and does the other thing again. And what nobody in my family can understand is that they're flying over this little tiny island. where there's a mom and dad and 14 kids, this Polynesian family that's like a subsistence fishing family. They got no running water, no electricity, no nothing. And the French are trying to wiggle the wings of their search plane to get them to follow them in their beat-up boat to rescue us. But they don't get it. My goodness. And so in the sort of... Telling of the story where CBS is wanting us to watch the story, they say that your wife, Jean, faces a decision where she either has to abandon you to save your kids and herself or risk all your lives in an attempt to save you. What was that about and what happened? Well, that goes back to precisely that thing. I'm out there. I'm stranded on the boat. There's no way to get me.
Ben and my wife even talk about it, and they say, there's nothing we can do. We've got to watch the kids. It's all chaos on the shore. There's only this one little tiny bit of reef that everybody's trying to hang on to, and they can't get me. But the whole reversal hinges on what I just said, that my wife makes this decision. I mean, in the blackest part of the night, that she's going to free that raft. And she's going to do it with his hacksaw. Which is unbelievable. Yeah. How did the actual rescue take place? Well, you know, we're talking about this French search jet and this Polynesian family. The French, in desperation, they write a message. They handwrite a message and they roll it up and they shove it in a soda bottle and they put a cap on it. And they fly that jet low and slow in front of this hut on stilts where the people live. They splash that bottle in.
And the dad reads that message, and he gets his four biggest sons, and they pile in this boat. And an hour and a half later, they arrive out at our reef, maybe 10 o'clock in the morning. This is unbelievable. A message in a bottle. A message in a bottle. And this is about how many hours? 12, 13, 14, 15 hours after the... About 14, 15 hours. We'll hear the very end of this story. When we come back, we've got to take a quick time out. We'll be back with John Silverwood, whose story is going to be the focus of Live to Tell. We are back in the studio with John Silverwood, whose story will be seen tomorrow night, 10 o'clock, on Live to Tell. It's a great story. Basically, where we've come in the story is John had taken his family in 2003 on a 55-foot catamaran. They'd been sailing for two years out in the ocean and found themselves sort of...
No, they were having a great time until they got to French Polynesia. Then they hit a reef. John was pinned under a 2,500-pound mast, and his wife made the decision to swim out into the ocean and free a life raft that would save his life. Got him to a reef. Around dawn, they saw a rescue plane fly over, only the plane couldn't really do anything to help. So the plane... Literally put a message in a bottle and dropped it onto a kind of a little, was it, would you call it a village, John? Well, it's just one family, one hut. Like a fishing hut. It was a hut out in the middle of this little island that was how far from you? It was about 11 miles. Really? Yeah. And so they dropped this little message in a bottle.
And they read the message. These Polynesians read the message. They get in their boat. And is it a motorized boat? It had a beat-up outboard on it. And he took his four sons and himself. And like I said, about an hour and a half later, they got out there. And my wife wouldn't let them take me out of the raft. She had them pick the entire life raft up and put it in their boat. Wow. Really? Which they did. Yeah. And did they just take off with you or did they load the entire family? Everybody got in the boat. Everybody got in the boat. Yep. Everybody rode. And but my wife was crushed, see, because she thought we were getting the Calvary. You know, you see this rescue plane and these guys show up and, you know, they're great guys, but they got no blood. They got no medicine. They got no radio. They've got nothing. And so talk to me about your pain level at this point. You know what? My pain level. was actually receding. You're probably in shock, right? I'm beyond shock. Shock usually lasts about three or four hours, sometimes even shorter. I'm on some other wavelength now. I mean, I'm out in the ether kind of. I've since read about stories where when the pain is massive enough, your brain manufactures these other chemicals. It takes time, and then it allows you to shut the pain out.
And, you know, the other thing is you've got to figure, man, I'm not on the deck anymore. I don't have the mass slamming down on my leg, and I've gotten used to it. My problem is I've got no blood, and no blood equals no oxygen, and no oxygen makes your heart beat faster. My kidneys have been shut down now for hours, you know, and I've got a gangrenous situation with my leg because it's an open wound, and all that bacteria on the reef has all entered my body. Can you, I mean, do you remember much about that 11 mile, you know, kind of ride back to where they were taking you? I just remember my wife screaming, hurry, go faster. My husband's dying. I remember the guy trying to start the outboard and they just had like an old piece of rope and the rope snapped when he was trying to start the engine. And it was, you know, it was funny because it's very quiet. The sun's up, but it's tense at the same time. Incredible. And so they finally get this engine started. They take you back to where they live? Yeah. We're back on this tiny, tiny little islet, you know, maybe a quarter of an acre in size. Uh-huh. Wow. You know, 50 palm trees. And they live in a little hut on stilts, period, you know. And we're there, and they've got this tiny little, like, portable radio. And my wife is screaming into that radio, and they're telling her that maybe they can get a chopper out there.
late in the afternoon and she says you don't understand my husband's dying he's got no blood well finally a chopper does show up it's a french army military helicopter and it lands you know after lunch it lands sometime like 1 1 30 2 o'clock you gotta be kidding somewhere around there they rescued you at 10 and this is one o'clock in the afternoon yeah yeah my gosh and uh and uh You know, my wife and my son, they're by me and they're just urging me to hang on, just to hang on. And that's all I'm doing. I'm hanging on to my consciousness. You know, the doctor said that the fact that I never lost consciousness is probably, you know, it's just another one of those things why I'm still here. But it was a combat trauma doctor that was on that chopper, an excellent French doctor. And that guy, he couldn't believe I was alive. He even told his crewman, he said, listen, get the family prepared because this guy's not going to make it. But he went ahead and tried his best to stabilize me, and he spent two hours doing it. And he was conference calling on the radio with the hospital in Tahiti to try to figure out what to do. And then, you know, there really isn't anything else to do except take the chance and put me on the chopper, which is what they did. So he tried to stabilize you right there at the hut and then get you on the helicopter.
Yeah, but you can't just dump blood into somebody that's lost that much blood or you'll actually suffocate in what they're putting in because your lungs can't absorb it. So, you know, he had to do everything very slowly and they put me in the chopper and up we went. Now, these big choppers use up a lot of fuel. So the furthest they could get, they couldn't go to Tahiti. They could get as far as Bora Bora. And they landed there to refuel. But what they had done was called the search plane and had the search plane land at that same airport. And the search plane had refueled and they were waiting for me on a stretcher when the chopper landed. Where was your family? With them on the helicopter? The family all rode in the chopper with me. And then they all rode in the plane with you? Well, the deal with the plane was the plane was a converted fighter bomber. and they couldn't get the stretcher in the plane because it's this small, sleek-looking thing, right? But since it was a fighter bomber, it still had the Bombay doors on the bottom, and they opened the Bombay doors, and they lifted the stretcher in through the Bombay doors, and there was only room for my wife and myself. The kids stayed with the chopper crew, and the chopper guys brought the kids back to Tahiti later. Jack is also with you. Jack, you're 13. Now he's 13. He was 9 at the time. Jack, was it scary having to stay with them?
uh in tahiti oh yeah it was real scary because i had no idea what was going on i didn't know like what type of situation my dad was in and i'm guessing that your brother ben was kind of playing the role of grown up with you at this point uh yeah he was the dad for a day and he'd already been the dad for quite a while i mean he had to take over for his own dad and and sort of call a lot of shots he's a man yeah for sure he turned into a man and uh Uh, so was he just trying to calm you down during that period that you were waiting? Uh, yeah, well, it was, uh, when we had first gotten, like, onto the reef in that safe spot, I actually fell asleep for a couple hours. But then we found the, uh, surge plane. But going back to Bora Bora, uh, they fueled up the chopper and my dad was already gone. But, uh, once I got on there, I fell asleep. Because I was exhausted. So tired. Now, John, you, they couldn't let you, I mean, and after all this kind of ordeal,
how exhausting it is, and your body already wanting sleep, were they not allowed to let you sleep because you would die? Or did they let you sleep on the plane and the chopper? No, no, they were encouraging me. The French guys, they were encouraging me to live, you know. So did they want you to not sleep? No, they didn't. No, no, no, no. You don't close your eyes. Don't sleep. No, you have to stay in the here and now. Wow. You have to make your heartbeat. You have to remember to breathe. You have to force all those what are typically called involuntary actions to happen. Yeah, you got to drive the bus inside your body. And what kind of things can they even do to stabilize you? Do they just run an IV putting in plasma or do they give you painkillers? What do they do? They give you plasma. They give you plasma. They give you saline. At that point, painkillers probably wouldn't have had any effect on you anyway because your brain was doing something for that at the time. Well, at some point in time, they were introducing morphine into me. I don't think it was on the Atoll. I think it was maybe when I was on the jet. But they don't want to do very much because all your ratios are out of whack. They don't know blood chemistry-wise where you're at. And what about when they're doing this? Is there any language barrier between you guys? No, no, because there was plenty of French guys.
that could speak English. It was a little bit broken, but basically, you know, I don't really need to tell them anything. They could see what the problem is. Do you believe in God? Absolutely. Was there a lot of prayer? Yeah, I prayed many times during the night. And I will tell you that, you know, I wasn't even thinking when I was praying a lot of times. You know, when I was under the mast, the words, it was just the chain of words coming out of my mouth. But it was that chain of words and that intense concentration, just trying to say the words with my teeth clenched. I'm certain that's what kept me alive because it was in that point where they said most people would have died. Just that overwhelming shock and being pinned under the mask like that. People just let go, you know, and and I wouldn't let go of that idea. And I'm sure that that, you know, there's just there's like. There's just an endless number of, like, little things that somehow connected together to keep me here. When you landed in Tahiti and you get to the hospital, at what point were you finally able to kind of go, okay, I think I might be all right? I remember that exact moment, and what it was was I was on the gurney, and I was in the operating room, and I could look up, and there's those...
Big, bright theater lights up on the ceiling, and there's a black silhouette of the faces of these two French doctors, right? And I realize in France, you know, they're telling me, hey, count to ten, you know, and have pleasant thoughts or whatever. And it was only then that I, because I'm kind of out of it, you know, that I was certain that my wife and my kids were safe. And I just, I was flooded with this feeling of ecstasy. And I was on my last, I was on fumes, man. I was very, very near death. As close to death as you could probably get. And now tell us, what were the repercussions? What happened? What was the damage? Well, the damage was that my leg was cut off. And it was cut off just below the knee.
And so it was properly amputated in the operation that followed. You know, they had me on dialysis for longer than I care to remember. To get the kidneys to work again. They had to kickstart my kidneys over and over again. You know, it was kind of an up and down operation. You know, I was there and then I wasn't. But I flew out of Tahiti about three weeks later when they said I was stable enough. And they put me into Scripps here in La Jolla, Scripps Memorial Hospital. And unfortunately, the orthopedic surgeons there took a look at my knee and they said, you know, John, your knee is shot. You know, that mast had just kind of pounded it. The French doctors, God bless them, in Tahiti, they were hoping that maybe the American guys knew something that they didn't, you know, and they could salvage the knee somehow. But it didn't work, so I had to undergo another amputation, you know. So I actually got... I got the natural amputation by way of a mast. I got a second amputation at the hospital in Tahiti. And then I got a third one. And that's when I lost my knee back here in Scripps. So, you know, I had to wait for all that stuff to heal up. And then I got a really nice prosthetic device at an outfit called Bionics here in San Diego. And then I learned to walk again.
Unbelievable story. I mean, when I saw you, I didn't even know you had a prosthetic until you showed me, and I was like, wow, look at that. That's crazy. I get around. We do a lot of hiking. I'll be out tomorrow, tomorrow night, actually. I'm going to miss my own show because I've got the YMCA Indian Princesses, and we've got a big campout out at Agua Caliani. Have you been back on a boat? I've been back on a number of boats. My first big sail, I flew down to Auckland, New Zealand, and I sailed on a catch up to New Caledonia. up in the south pacific uh-huh and the trick to that was we had just finished writing this book black wave and available on amazon by the way i've already ordered a copy thank you yeah anyway so we what i don't know is is that the pilot of the chopper the french army chopper that lifted me and my family off the reef had been transferred by the french army to new caledonia because it's another french island and when we sail We sail for eight days across the ocean, and we arrive in New Caledonia. And that guy, Yvonne, and his wife and his three kids are all waiting for me there on the dock. You've got to be kidding me. And I hadn't seen him in two years. I hadn't seen him since the chopper. Unbelievable. Yeah, it was pretty cool. So, John, let me ask you. John Silverwood's with us. We're wrapping up his story. You can see it in full detail, which now meeting you, I just can't wait to see it. Right.
It's called Live to Tell. It airs tomorrow night on CBS at 10 o'clock. And I've talked about this show before. CBS's 48 Hours Mystery is a fantastic show. And this series, Live to Tell, has been just absolutely stunning in how awesome it's been. So I urge everybody to watch it. Why do you think this happened in your life? The thing that I'm taking out of this, and I do some public speaking now from time to time, probably five times in the last month or so. And we've got this big crushing blow to our economy and crushing blow to people's personal lives that's happening all across the country. And I don't think it's going to stop any time in the immediate future. And I'm just trying, when I get out there and I talk, what I try to let people know is that, you know.
My family, not just me, but everybody on that boat had a crushing blow that happened to them that night. And you know what? Our family, our love in that unity, that's what brought us through it, you know, that kind of strength. And that's my message. That's what I think I need to talk about. What about your relationship with your wife? How did it change as a result of the accident? My relationship with my wife is the same as with my kids. It's much deeper. It's much more visceral. And it's also much more like on a, it's on a subconscious level and a conscious level. It's just an amazing story. It's just an amazing story, and you've got to watch it. It's going to be on tomorrow night. You can see it tomorrow night. I have to now. I mean, just such an unbelievable story, and it was so great to meet you, John and Jack. It was great to meet you, too, and we're going to be able to see this. Your wife was on the CBS early show this morning, and she was...
telling them all about the experience. And the people that are seeing it throughout the rest of the country do not have the benefit of knowing what we know, which is that you survived and that you're actually here with us. And it's fantastic. Just an amazing story. And I really appreciate you coming by and telling us this story. This is one of the more memorable interviews I've done. And I just love these stories. You guys have been great to us. I couldn't tell you that much. Thanks. I appreciate it. Jack, did you have a good time? Oh, yeah. That's cool, man. Yeah, he was just stoked to miss school. Yeah. Absolutely. Absolutely. Yes, Skye. He needs some ham. There it is. Really, John. Really, John. You know how it is. You know how it is. That's fantastic. Okay, John. I think just about enough. She's got a couple of places. All right. Oh, she can help you get some of that. All right. 570-1053 is our phone number and our text number. is three, or no, we don't have a text number. No, we don't. We have a text address. We have a text address. And the text address, thank you so much, John. We appreciate it. Take it easy, guys. The book is called what? Black? Black Wave. Black Wave. Black Wave. In case people want to get it. It sounds wonderful to me. Yeah, so. It's my favorite kind of wave. I mean, this guy is talking. Okay.
I mean, he's talking about how he almost lost his life. His family is in peril. But, Scott, this is the first time I've laughed in hours. I mean, the whole thing. And then he wraps it up with a ham joke. That was fantastic. Like, really? That makes him a genius. Like, really? Yes. That's why he lived. Hey, I thought that's what he was going to say was the point of all of it. You know, he gets this really sad point. He's like, I think that the reason that it happened was ham. Yes, to make this ham joke. Yes. I just cannot believe that. Now, recognize this. He is now going to be on the Ashley After Show. Oh, this is awkward. Which is being recorded, which I don't even know what that's going to be like. And Ashley is doing her usual thing where... She's using his leg as a microphone. Yes, exactly. Exactly. Yes. That would make sense. Why not? You know that that's the kind of thing that she does. That's just the kind of girl that she is. Oh, my gosh. So anyway, that was fantastic. Really cool story. That's good. 570-1053 is the number. And if you would like, call us. Let's talk to some folks. P1, Matt. Matt. What up, boy? What's up, Matt? Check this out. Me and my buddies were out in Huntington. And we were crossing the street, walking down Beach and Hile. Some chick hit me with her car, like at a stoplight, right? I get in front of her. She hits me with her car.
Her old man jumped out and stabbed me 12 times. What? Oh, yeah. I got one in the head, my neck. When did this happen? When? When? Why? I have no idea. No, no. When? When? Oh, when? Like two and a half years ago, something like that. Maybe you should be on one of these I shouldn't be alive type stories. Take us out the second time. But when I got to the hospital, Bradley Knowles' mom was one of the nurses assisting, pitching me up, right? Who's Bradley Knowles? Lead singer for Sublime, dude. Oh, wow. Oh. Okay. Bro, I apologize profusely. Sublime, bro. Yeah. Sorry, our bad. But to make matters even trippier, that was the night my girlfriend at the time found out she was pregnant with her son. Oh, wow. Yeah, so she found out like an hour later. She got the call from my buddy saying I was in the hospital. I had stabs all the time. Well, that is... That's a good reason to live, huh? That is a good reason to live. That's right, bud. That's a far out story, brother. Wow. Bradley knows. Okay, take it down. I can't believe you didn't know who that was. Shame on you. At the end of the show. On Friday, I tell you my story. I tell you a little bit about what has happened in my life. And it's a good day to do it today. Having somebody like John in here and everything that he had been through. Lots of God moments in that story. Lots. Definitely lots of God moments in that story. My story is that there was a time in my life where I was 100% desperate.
You have an I shouldn't be alive story. Yeah, and I shouldn't be. I shouldn't be alive. At the moment that I realized that I needed God to take over, I knew that my life was going to go one of two ways. Either God was going to pull off a miracle in the last four seconds of the game, or I was going to continue to drink the way that I was, and I was going to eventually die. And in terms of desperation, I was living alone at the time and had isolated myself. I was closing the drapes, closing the blinds, turning the phone off and not wanting people to know what I was doing, which was killing myself with alcohol. I know there's people that are listening right now that are either in the same place there or you're experiencing desperation. You're going through some sort of an addiction or maybe you're
suffering pain because of a divorce or a breakup with a husband or a wife or a boyfriend or a girlfriend. Maybe you've lost a child. Maybe you're going through some kind of intense pain. My life, at one point or another, I had put my hope in just about everything you can imagine. My hope in other people, it never worked. I put my hope for a few minutes or hours. In alcohol or drugs, I put my hope into things. Nothing that I ever put my hope in worked or lasted. I asked John, well, what was it? You know, what was it all about? And he answered me honestly. And I can answer you honestly with every bit of sincerity that I have. That the reason that the things happen the way that they happen in my life, feeling alone, feeling ugly, feeling unwanted, feeling worthless.
All of those things, they all happened in my life to bring me to a point where I could come on the radio and I could tell you about it. And I could tell you that it was God. The reason that it happened was God. God saved my life. Gave me hope in something that never dies. Jesus Christ. He has a book too. Best book I've ever read in my life. Check this out.
