Dante Rosario's last-second touchdown against the Chargers and Tom Brady's potentially season-ending knee injury drove the sports conversation, with Sean Merriman and Josh Lewin explaining why players must move on from brutal losses. Tyra Banks pushed back when Mikey questioned whether her body-image message encouraged unhealthy weight, but the interview changed course after Mikey revealed his history with bulimia. The crew also turned Sean's germaphobia, the Dumb Chick Challenge, Pink's 'So What,' and Chuck Liddell's knockout loss to Rashad Evans into extended comedy and argument. Mark Pereira explained the possible effects of the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac takeover, while Mikey, Skye, and Ashley debated Katy Perry's influence without supporting a ban on her music.
What happened, in order
Chargers lose at the horn
The hosts relived Dante Rosario's last-play touchdown for Carolina, which turned an apparent 24-19 Chargers win into a stunning 26-24 loss.
Tom Brady goes down
Boston Rob clung to hope while the crew discussed reports that Tom Brady's knee injury could end his season and debated possible replacements.
Germ warfare
Sean explained how to rinse a potentially contaminated eye with a cup of water after Mikey admitted scrubbing soap inside his nostril to kill germs.
The accidental rum sip
Mikey recalled accidentally drinking from Eddie's rum and Coke after quitting alcohol, then calling his recovery contact while reassuring a horrified Eddie.
Merriman after the loss
Sean Merriman said Carolina simply made the decisive play, denied that its players deliberately targeted his injured knee, and described managing his brace and pain.
Tyra turns the interview
Tyra Banks resisted Mikey's framing of her bikini and body-image message, then the tense exchange softened when he disclosed his past bulimia and she began interviewing him.
Liddell knocked cold
Ashley described Rashad Evans knocking Chuck Liddell unconscious with an overhand right and wondered whether age and Liddell's partying had caught up with him.
Dumb Chick Challenge
Boston Rob beat Skye and Ashley in a trivia round that veered through Columbus's flagship, rice paddies, Chappaquiddick, Yamaha, and Nancy Reagan.
The mortgage rescue explained
Mikey's neighbor Mark Pereira argued that the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac takeover exposed failing supersized corporations but could lower rates and eventually help buyers.
Pink's rock moves
The crew mocked the bravado and breakup logic in Pink's 'So What' while reluctantly admitting that its ridiculous lyrics were attached to an irresistibly catchy song.
Sean versus the waiter
The group roasted germaphobe Sean for accusing a waiter of trying to kill him during a refill, objecting to being brushed, and cutting a dinner roll with a knife and fork.
The Katy Perry argument
Mikey, Skye, and Ashley debated whether Katy Perry's 'I Kissed a Girl' was harmless pop, a bad influence on children, or a calculated appropriation of bisexuality, while rejecting censorship.

It's 6-0-4. The federal government announced yesterday that they'll be taking over control of troubled mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Well, this voice said you're hearing ain't Eddie. So, you know what is Boston Robbers doing the sports today? Uh-oh. Uh-oh. Oh, no. Uh-oh. The charges upset by the Panthers as time expires get beat 26-24. Sky, did you see it? No. You see it, Rob? Oh, yeah. How about you, Ash and Zef? You saw it? Yeah. Ash? Yeah. I guess we all saw it. I was sitting in my kitchen with my jaw dropped open. Oh, no. Yeah. No. And all I did was just stare at the television. Right. And for those of you that don't know, and even if you're not, you don't really follow sports, every once in a while in sports, there's those moments that happen that are really interesting and you kind of remember. Oh, yeah. When somebody hits a walk-off home run, it's kind of a cool thing to look at. And so yesterday, the Chargers, in what was kind of a back-and-forth game, the whole game was kind of back-and-forth. And it looks like the Chargers, they finally get ahead. Well, they're ahead, and we're going into the last couple minutes of the game. And they are up.
24-17. 24-19. 24-19. Chargers. And it looks like they got the game, you know? Granted, the Panthers are going to get this one last possession, but you're like, oh, whew. That was a close one. That was a close one. All done. Let's go home. Time to relax. Have a beer. It's time for everybody to just go have a cocktail and order a pizza. Orange slices. Whatever. And high fives. That's right. High fives and orange slices. And then here come the Panthers. Yeah. Down the field. And I'm thinking to myself, well, you know what? This added a little color and a little drama. What do you know? It's kind of fun to get up to the end of the game and the underdog almost does it. Yeah. I know they're not going to do it. Right.
But it's fun to see that kind of drama played out before your eyes. That's fun. It's a little more exciting. Yeah, it keeps it interesting. That suspense is good for the heart. That's what doctors say. Yeah, yeah. The doctors actually suggest it. They say, yeah, every once in a while mix in some high drama. Yeah. Gets that little heart beating quickly. Makes you feel alive. That's right, boy. It sure does, doesn't it? Oh, man. And so then right there in the... The final seconds. Two seconds, to be exact. There were two seconds left in the game. And they got one last play. The Carolina Panthers were going to get one last play. In my mind, I'm like, this is really cool, but Chargers are not going to lose like this. Touchdown, back of the end zone. And it was so crazy because you almost couldn't see if... anyone had caught it. Because in the stadium, that whole end zone becomes shade at a certain point in the day. So you can kind of see the players, but you can't make out the football. And I had thought the time had run out. Well, the time can run out as long as a play is still alive. Like the time can click off, but if the quarterback still got the ball in his hand, it's still alive.
I mean, that can happen for 10 minutes if he's able to hold on to the ball for 10 minutes. You know what I mean? Dang. Yeah, then I saw the referee put his hands up. And when I saw that, my mind was still going, oh, where's the flag? Right. Where's the flag? Like, I'm going to see yellow flags, and they're going to have to try again. Yep. Because it can't end this way. It can't. And it did. It ended that way. It ended with all of the Carolina Panthers gathering around the guy that caught the touchdown and congratulating him and freaking out and long shots of Norv Turner and the Chargers and their fans stunned. Oh, yeah. There should have been a camera in my kitchen. Oh, that's brutal. It was stunning. But still, this story pales in comparison to the biggest story in the NFL. Don't get into it. It may be too early. It is definitely too early. You can call me about 2 this afternoon and maybe we'll discuss it. I think I'm ready now. Rob, three words.
Did you see? Oh, of course I did. You did. How could you have missed it? Oh, no. My heart went out to you, buddy. Yeah. It did. As soon as I saw, and I didn't see it happen, I just saw, like, the rest of the world. So they practically broke into, like, soap TV. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. They practically broke into Nickelodeon. Yeah. The Oxygen Network. The Oxygen Network. State of the Union address. It was the biggest story in the NFL. Yesterday, Tom Brady is out for the season. Well, hold on. Officially? Hold on. All I heard this morning is Tom Brady out for season. Hold on. Torn ACL. Nothing official yet. There's a flag. There's got to be a flag. Nothing official yet. They're doing MRIs today. I'm still waiting for a yellow flag. Yeah, they're going to do some magical doctor stuff. And today we're going to get a final. Yes. As far as I understand. They can replace it. As far as I understand, they are going to, obviously, because they need to figure out what's busted and, you know, fix it. Yeah. But all I've heard is. Not good stuff. Tom Brady out for season. Maybe that's incorrect. I just went to ESPN.com, and, of course, it's their top story, and they say Tom Brady may have suffered a season-ending knee injury. Yeah, so.
There's still a glimmer of hope for Rob. There is, there is, and don't take that away from me. They're working out Phil Simms, or Chris Simms, and Tim Rattay. So, you know, if they're working those guys out, it's not looking good. Sorry. I heard a pretty decent idea this morning. What? Dante Culpepper, who retired. I mean, him and Randy Moss kind of have a little bit of a... We were talking about that yesterday. A little bit of a history together. Me and my fiance and my brothers, and we were saying he couldn't find a job. He's literally, he was watching the game with Ruffles potato chips. He likes the ridges. Yeah, he likes the ridges. That's good. And Sky, his wife, makes homemade ranch like you do. Oh, it's so good. Oh, it's so good when you make it homemade. Well, it's what it is. It was made at home. Yes, I do make it in my kitchen. Well, it was mixed at home. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, you don't get it. So, all right, let's introduce the show. And call us 570-1053. It's like my life changes when football starts up. Yeah. I feel that things are different. I don't know. Like, how are they different? Oh, like the way my day plays out, the way my day goes. And I don't just mean, you know, Sunday. I mean, like, well, we're in football season. You know, this is what it looks like.
This is the new normal. Oh, goodness. So, yeah. And my terrible fantasy football team? Yeah. Not so terrible. That was ridiculous. That's what everyone was telling you. Your pick wasn't that bad. Not so terrible. I played Eddie yesterday. Oh, no. And I think that we are both, all of our players have played. So none of us have somebody else playing tonight and Monday night football or anything. And I currently have the highest score in the league. What? Well, LaDainian Tomlinson's backup last season and for the last few seasons has been Michael Turner. Right. Who was the star of the NFL yesterday. Yeah, he killed it. He was the star of the NFL. Right. He rushed for 220 yards yesterday. That's a lot, Mike. That's a couple, yeah. That's crazy. Franchise record for the Atlanta Falcons. And he had two touchdowns. And so I beat Eddie 93 to 50, and Michael Turner practically did it all. 36 points from Michael Turner. And we're both done. That was a good pick, that Michael Turner, huh? Yeah. Good job, dude. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Nicely done. I love fantasy football. So much.
570-1053 is our phone number. Give us a call at the beginning and end of every show. And also hit us up on the text message, 35253. What a show today. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. What a show today. My goodness. First of all, Sean Merriman will be checking in. Oh, yes. In less than an hour. So we'll ask Sean, oh, man, what must that locker room have been like? See, that's the deal. Like, we don't know. He experienced something that we cannot experience, what that locker room must have been like. So we'll ask him. Boy, I sure hope it gets to be happy conversations with Sean. Yeah, right? You got to ask him about, what's it, D'Angelo Williams? Kind of taking a cheap shot at his knees. Yeah, not just D'Angelo Williams. There was a couple of guys I heard yesterday. Shut up. Yeah. Oh, yeah. That's a jerk move. Interesting, too, because before the game started, when I was watching analysis on ESPN and before all the games even began, between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., they were saying, yeah, Sean Merriman will be a target to play. And this was a player saying it that had played the game. He says, oh, yeah, when guys are hurt like that, that's what we go for. Oh, yeah.
You could see it, too. Easily. So players, like, acknowledge that that's a strategy and that's okay, you know, like, because the way I would, you know, I know nothing about football, but the way I'd envision it is being like, okay, on the down low, we're going to go for his knee, but let's not talk about it because that would make us horrendous human beings. Well, not only that, but it would almost look a little bit cowardly. Yes, yes. You know, like, we can't fight on our own. We've got to go for your weak spot. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But I guess they're pretty open about it. Okay. Well, this was a former player. I wonder if active players would say, oh, yeah, I'm going first. Maybe they wouldn't. Yeah, I got to say, that would be real tough for an active player to say, yes, I was doing that on purpose. But at the same time, it's like they were beelining directly for Merriman's knee. Yeah. This was coming from a guy that had perspective of playing the game years ago. Yeah. I think it was... I think it was... Michael Jackson on ESPN. Yes, it was Michael Jackson coming out from Dubai. From the 114th floor of his luxury hotel in Dubai. Tom Jackson, former Denver Bronco on ESPN, said that. P1 Slide. Hey, good morning, guys. What's going on, dude? I had a great time hanging out with you guys at the remote broadcast this week. Yeah.
I got to say, Mr. Sky is a lot prettier than I thought he was going to be. That's right. I don't know what that means. Mr. Sky looks like Adrian Greer, the actor Adrian Greer from the show Entourage. He's getting ready to go do a hair care for men commercial. That's right. He's got some beautiful thick hair. What can I say? The hair looks cool. Oh, it's great. The hair looks cool. How awesome. For being Boston Rob's bachelor party, he's probably the one I saw the least there. Oh, B-Rob? Yeah. Oh, he was working the crowd. He was all over the place. I was up with them DJs. Yeah. Oh, yeah, okay. Dude, you should have seen. Oh, it was so hilarious. I don't think you were there. I think it was me, Eddie, and Sean, and I think Seth may have been standing there, but we're all in the poker room, and Mr. Sky is standing about a foot next to Sean, like just a foot away from Sean, standing there. Had been in our circle of conversations a couple times that night, and then Sean looks at me and goes, Yeah, so where's Mr. Sky? I thought he was coming out to this thing. Dead serious. Did not recognize my husband. And then I'm like, he's standing right next to you. Sean got all embarrassed. Well, apparently Sean was really very anxious that night because he felt that there was a P1 following him around. Yes, right.
And Sean was like always like in the corner of my eye. Everywhere we went, there was just this random dude. Yeah. And Sean stayed close to Skye. So everywhere Skye and Sean went, there's this dude out of the corner of his eye that's making Sean really uncomfortable because Sean thinks like, oh, he's going to. Try to touch me because I'm a germaphobe. Are you kidding me? They kind of come up to the side of you, and they just kind of hang out. You know that if you look over at them and look them in the eye, that they're going to want to do something to you. They're going to poke you or want to shake your hand or something awful like that. Oh, boy. And that's what this guy was doing. Can you believe that? Yeah, Mr. Sky. It was Mr. Sky. The whole time. You didn't recognize him. Please. It was not embarrassing at all. No, not at all. Oh, I was laughing so hard. Hey, Shawnee, not that I don't love looking at the Matlock poster on your camera. Is there a problem? Not that I don't love. That's the first season, bro. Is there an issue? Is there an issue?
Photograph of Matlock, but it's not mine. Sean. Oh, there he is. There's Shawnee, oh boy. Okay, you are the best. Sean was the topic of conversation with our friends at dinner the other night. Just a lot of Shawnee. Oh, no. That's right. Real quick, let me introduce. I'm Mikey. I'm the host of the show. I am 38 years of age. And, yeah, I love San Diego. It's my favorite city in not just America, the world. Wow. If I could live anywhere, be here, I'd like to spend the rest of my days in San Diego. I love it. I love it that much. Yeah, I just, I adore everything about it. I like its personality. I think it's pretty. It's everything that makes you fall in love with a woman. Wow. Is why I have fallen in love with.
San Diego. It's laid back. It's laid back. It's amusing. Positive. Positive. It's just San Diego. Always fresh. Always new things to do. Yeah. Smells good. It does. It's a great place. That's why it's so expensive to live here. Oh, yeah. Because it's nice. But that's why you got to pay for it. There are seven people, actually, on the show. What the heck? But Eddie's out today. Eddie's our producer and our sports guy, and I think he got sick from shaking hands. Probably. Yeah. If you have a cold and you happen to take your hand against your nose, and then you shake somebody's hand, and then they take their hand and put it up to their eye and rub their eye or rub their nose or eat ribs or suck their thumb. No, I was in bed all yesterday. You were? Feeling borderline, yeah. I shook somebody's hand. Shaking hands? Probably, Sky. I shook somebody's hand. And I remember shortly after shaking their hand, I kind of rubbed my nose. And I thought about it. I've done that, yes. I thought about it. And it was tripping me out. I went up into the room. I washed my hands with soap.
And as I had all the soap in my hand, I stuck it in my nostril. And with my fingers, I rubbed my nostril. And I was like, maybe there's germs and I can kill it. I can kill it before it makes its way into my mucus stream. I support that. You know what I did? It was, you know, Friday night. And we had been hanging out all day, hugging and pictures and shaking hands and whatever. And I'm kind of aware of that, too, about rubbing the face. And I rubbed my eyes. Oh, Sky. As soon as it dawned on me what I had done, I wanted to rip my eyeballs out. How do you clean your eyeballs? You can't. Although, I'll be honest with you, I'd have done the same thing with my eyes minus opening them that I did with my nose. I would have closed my eyes, lathered my hands up, and scrubbed the outside of my eyes with soap. There is a way to clean your eyes. How do you do it? What you do is... Sean's a germaphobe. What you do is you take a cup, wash it out, fill it all the way to the top with water. Notice he said wash out the cup. Fill it all the way to the top, take your face, put it down, your eye right into the cup, open your eye, look around, take your eye out, and you're done. That'll do it? Cold water? Yep, that'll rinse it out. Just flushing it. Yeah, flushing it out.
Not a bad idea. I wouldn't use cold water because it kind of stings. Sean? I'm just saying. What would you use? Lukewarm water? I would use either lukewarm or hot. Tepid. I prefer hot, but, you know, you can do it out of the way. We don't want people burning their eyeballs. We don't. It's better than getting sick. You know what else is really gross? What? The, like, casino slot machines. The surfaces. Oh, yeah. I saw some old people, like... touching and itching themselves and then, you know, pressing all the buttons and that kind of got me a little freaked out because I was playing some video poker and I kept thinking, oh, I wish I had like a handy wipe or a wet nap or something to just kind of wipe this down a little. Sean's germaphobeness I think is rubbing off on all of us. No, no applause for that. Please, come on. Big time. It's got me worried about stuff I probably don't need to worry about. Awesome. Please. Finally. Skye is our news girl. Hi. 30 years of age. And she's rocking one of the Mikey Show commemorative shirts today. From our golf classic a few years back. That's right. Thank you very much. That's the one where Eddie tried to get me drunk after I'd quit drinking. That's right. That's right.
The switcheroo of the drinks. That was the worst. He felt so terrible. That was the worst. He felt so terrible. Yeah, poor guy. Well, the drinks looked the same. They were in these paper, you know, they were in those blue Pepsi cups. It was a blue Pepsi paper cup. You know. The tall kind. Yeah, with the lid and the straw. Mm-hmm. But there was no top on it, just a straw. You know, there was no plastic cover. All right. And I had ordered a Diet Coke. Mm-hmm. And he came up and he put his down next to me, you know, like normal. Yeah, you're sitting next to each other. And I picked it up and took a big drink out of it and instantly tasted rum. Yeah. Yeah. And I was, man, I went outside and I was calling my guy that I got a call. Oh, I remember. Oh, man. And I felt worse for Eddie. I felt worse. He felt really bad. Oh, he felt terrible. And I was like, dude, it's not your fault. You didn't, you know. Right. You did a normal thing. Yeah, it was an accident. It was an accident. Let's see. Shawnee O'Boy is our sound effects guy. Yeah. He's 38 years of age. Oh, wow. Uh-huh. Jeez. And I enjoy hanging out with him.
We all do. We all enjoy hanging out with him, even though he's entirely inappropriate at fancy restaurants. Well, that's not... Almost embarrassing. Almost. What am I embarrassing? I was embarrassed. Yeah, you've got to figure out what the word almost means. Okay, so is that. I just didn't want to say it. Yeah. That's quite an exaggeration. Oh. More on that later. Yeah. Oh, yeah. There's a lot to discuss there. Oh, yeah. Huh? Oh, there sure is. So we'll get to that in a little bit. Let's see. Ashley is our assistant producer. And she is 25. She is a blonde girl. And she is my go-to person on all things like young and hip. She kind of knows a little bit about everything that's kind of young and hip. She can help you out. So that's where we go. Boston Rob is 25 years old. And it's September. So in two months. Boston Rob will be turning 26. That's right. Wow. Yeah, he is all about New England. Oh, yeah. He's all about New England sports. I get a little, like, left out feeling this time of year because football begins and America goes into that, you know, football mindset. Right now it's football, football, football, nothing else. Yep. And I'm still, you know, saying, hey, the Red Sox are doing great. Going on a hot streak.
Everybody else is kind of slumping. The Red Sox are doing it. Nobody else cares. My fiance is like, don't even come with that Red Sox stuff. Go put those jerseys somewhere else. No. I thought she was a big fan of Boston sports as well. She is, but I mean. Dude, she is a football fanatic. This girl knows more than I do about football. She knows how the game is played and the whole deal? Everything, dude. Wow. Everything. Really? Like, we play football on the street. Like, she can pass it sick. I told her yesterday. I said, stop throwing the ball that hard. You're hurting my hand. She said, I don't even know I'm throwing it that hard. I said, listen, sweetheart. Like, it's hurting me. Like, you got to calm it down a little bit. She's putting a little zip on there. Yeah. There it is. Let's see. I left off with Rob. And then finally, there is Roosevelt, Zethian, Oates, Jr., III, Esquire, MD, DDS, Inc. Rosie. Oh, hi. Rosie. He screens our phone calls. And he does a good job at it. Like, I was realizing that a lot.
Lately, I've been realizing that he's doing better and better at it all the time. 570-1053 is the phone number. Give us a call. Beginning and end of every show, we do open phones. And man, it seems like there's everything to talk about. We did the big broadcast on Friday, the Hall of Fame broadcast, which very genuinely, I wrote an email to everybody at the station saying this, it was the best remote broadcast I've been a part of in 20 years. Right. Oh, yeah. From top to bottom, from all you guys on the show, to all the P1s, to the inductees, to the engineering department, to the promotions department, it just was great. Everything about it, I just loved it. I thought that that broadcast just went great. And I would love to do it again. Oh, I can't wait to do that again. And Harrah's was just fantastic. And everything about that broadcast was just really, really great for me. My son is going to be turning two years old tomorrow. That is nuts. And Rebecca's favorite thing is him singing Happy Birthday. Happy Birthday to me. And so I really want to tape record it and try to play it. Oh, please. Let me see. I think I got some kind of stuff on here. And this is basically what I'm going to use it from. These little flip minnows are great.
Oh, your little mini. The little mini. Oh, yeah. There's nothing on here. I took it all off. But I'll get some up for you. It's so cute, man. Did you guys get the picture I sent you? Yeah. That was great. He's really into Thomas the Train. And as he's fallen asleep, you hear him singing, Thomas, I love you. From his little monitor. Because that's the way the song goes. Oh, dude. And me and Rebecca look at each other and we just shake our head. We can't even believe it. It's so stinking cute. You can't even stand yourself. And so his Grammy got him a little engineer hat and stuck a little engineer hat on him. And it may be the funniest, cutest thing I've ever seen in my life. Oh, my. Goodness, was that cute on my boy, that little engineer hat. And he has, like, a model face. Like, the way that he will look at the camera and just kind of droop his eyes and pucker out his lip in some pose. He's so cute. He, like, just porcelain doll face. He's deep in thought. He's deep in thought. That's right. There's a lot going on. That's right. Gorgeous. 570-1053 is the phone number. P1 Taylin is on the line. What's up, Taylin? What's up? Hey, I just wanted to say that was easily one of the greatest weekends of my life, guys. That's awesome.
Talon, by the way, took me out of the poker tournament on Thursday night. Oh, that is true. No shame. No shame. That is true. That's right. Yeah, and y'all's promotional department was phenomenal. They are. They are. And they went so far above and beyond what could have possibly been expected. It was amazing. Thank you very much, Talon. We appreciate it. Thank you. Our phone number, 570-1053. Our text number is 35253. And I believe that whenever we talk to a Hall of Famer on the line, it's kind of like earning your doctorate. You know, when you refer to somebody that's earned their doctorate, like Zeph. Like Zeph, yeah. That's a lot of work. Like Zeph, you know. You've got to acknowledge him. Well, sure. You call them doctor, Zeph. You know what I mean? Right. His is in napping, though. That is true. Well, it's still an accomplishment. A lot of time. Doctorate in napping. But, yeah, if we talk to a Hall of Famer, they should be known as Hall of Famer. Oh. Paparazzi. And so Hall of Famer. Eddie just at home. At home. At home. Being ill just rolled his eyes. P1. Hall of Famer P1. Paparazzi is on the line. What's up, dude? Hey, I wanted to thank you guys for the Hall of Famer event. I haven't had a vacation over three years. It was like a little mini vacation. But it was all over. I was talking with Danny. We're like...
Wait, the weekend's just starting? Yeah. That's right. Paparazzi did a very nice thing and helped our promotion department break down that broadcast on Friday. Really? Did it for a couple hours, right, Paparazzi? No way. I'd love to do that. Awesome. It's very nice of you, man, because they didn't have a lot of people out there, and that helped them out. That's cool, man. I'm glad I was able to help. That's right. Thank you, brother. Thanks. All right. Okay, we do. I don't want to get too far behind. Yeah, we got stuff coming up. We have a lot. We do? Okay, so Sean Merriman will be on within 45 minutes. Yes. Tyra Banks is going to be on the show today. Oh, hey. Yes, that's my woman. Yeah, Tyra Banks. That's a woman. Yeah. That's a woman? Listen, I will admit when I have something to admit. And when we got to Harrah's on Thursday, my wife had the Tyra Banks show on. And I saw her interviewing Tori Spelling. And I thought it was a great interview. Wow. You know, it was like she was asking tough questions of Tori Spelling. And I was like, wow, this is really interesting. I was glued to the Tyra Banks show. All right.
And you've heard me say in the past that I have felt that there's kind of a vapid vibe that comes from Tyra Banks, but I dug it. I thought it was good. I'm not just saying that because she's on the show. Okay, all right. I'm trying to be honest. As a fellow gay man. Sean Merriman before the hour is over. Tyra Banks is on. Also, the Dumb Chick Challenge will be this morning. And in the YouTube clip of the day, this is something very different. Diddy will be sounding off again. Oh, you don't say. This time apologizing to the state of Alaska. The VMAs were last night. Video music awards. And, of course, the NFL is front stage. Is that front and center? What do you say? They're at the front of the stage. At the forefront, you could say. They're at the forefront of the stage. In the stage at the forefront. That's right. Brian Regan is in the stand-up spotlight. Rock 105.3 Traffic. Brought to you by Sleep Train Mattress Centers. Right now, we're looking at a pretty good ride on our freeways. Everything's just moving right along. It's a Monday, back to work, and things are looking just fine. Just the usual stuff and the usual place developing here on the South 15. That's getting a little bit tight now from the 78 off and on down to Villa Rancho Parkway. We need a minor delay through the Poway area. Other than that, everything else, like I said, is a great 5. The shoreline's looking fantastic. No worries out of the East County or the South Bay. So enjoy the ride while it lasts anyway. I'm Rick Lawrence on Rockwood 053. An AT&T phone survivor story. It takes a lot of thought to look this poor. And Ashley. Am I an example of stupidity? No, just on Rock 105.3. It's too bad that I... Eddie is out sick today because this is his favorite band in the entire world. It is 642. Britney Spears was the big winner at the MTV VMAs last night, taking home three awards and not embarrassing herself. I'm Boston Rob, filling in for Eddie the Oracle in sports today. And Tom Brady suffers a knee injury in the first quarter of the first game and could potentially be out for the season.
I just like how you say potential. The delivery is interesting. It was very professional, that one. Yeah. Later in the show, I might get wild with it. We don't know. We don't know. At this point, he's taking the very professional approach. Oh, yes. Right. Okay. Hey, Gary Owens, relax. That's right. Four people got that, but I appreciated the Gary Owens reference. That's Gary Owens, babe, okay? Okay. Let's see. So, Rob. The game was not even 15 minutes old. Tell me about it. The game wasn't even 15 minutes old. It was like 10, 11 plays in for the Patriots. Best player in the league out the first 15 minutes of the season. Yeah. I didn't see it. How did it, like, go down? Gross. What happened? It was. I thought it looked gross. Didn't you, dude? See, that was my take on it. Because the way he went down, he almost kind of fell in a twisting motion. So you see his calf and leg kind of disappear under a guy. And he turns, you know, around.
opposite the way the knee was going. No, he shouldn't have turned that way. And everyone that I'm there with watching this game, because we got, you know, 10, 15 people there watching it, is going, you know, it didn't look that bad. At least he got off. At least he walked off the field. And I'm going, you don't know that. You don't know that. Like, it didn't, and you know, of course, the whole game going into every commercial, coming out of every commercial, they're showing that and slowing it down, speeding it up, playing music over it. And I'm like, can you just stop with it? And you see it. I mean, something's twisting there and something's, that's not the way a knee bends. That's what I meant by gross. Like, there's some slow motion deals that you watch and you go, that's not natural at all. No, no. Body's not supposed to do that. That looks gross. So who's the backup guy? Matt Castle. Is he any good? Is that a good idea? Well, I said that because right now I just know that thousands of people went...
Who is that? Yeah. You mean the guy that holds a football while you guys kick field goals? Yeah, yeah. That guy. You know the guy that wears a headset on the sideline, no helmet, and a clipboard? Oh. You know, the guy who has the best job in the NFL because he's gotten three rings and hasn't done a thing. Right. Oh, no. He did real well yesterday, though. Okay. I mean, for, you know, getting the call and having to fill in and, you know, not really knowing. What was going on if Brady was going to come back out? Because I watched a post-game interview with Randy Moss, and he said the whole game, everyone is staring at that tunnel that Brady went into. Anytime the crowd applauded for anything, a play, anything, they're all looking over there. So you've got to imagine Matt Castle going, hey, guys, it's my time right now. Let's get this going. Listen, before everybody gets all freaked out about it. But I'm freaking out. Oh, yeah. Well, try to remember. Try to remember that this is how Tom Brady got his start. Really? My fiance is devastated. Heartbroken. A reminder of that. That's what I told her. Drew Bledsoe was a superstar. He was a superstar quarterback for the New England Patriots. And he went down and this seventh round draft pick that nobody had ever heard of named Tom Brady. Sixth round, 199.
overall pick. People were going, Tom who? He just knew exactly what pick he was. It wasn't the 7th round, it was the 6th round. You're like a stalker. He needs to get a restraining order against you. Please, I'll file it for him. So, Tom Brady came in and became Tom Brady. Wow. So who knows? Maybe Matt Cassel will take Tom Brady's job, just like Tom Brady did with Drew Bledsoe. That would be awesome if lightning could strike twice. But, I mean... Matt in the police castle! Maybe they'll be screaming that out. I don't know. It doesn't really have the same ring. Hey. Drew Bledsoe, by the way, the year that he did that, that he went down, and that... A young Tom Brady came in. Tom Brady took him to the Super Bowl and won it. That was our first one. That's crazy. Obviously, it can be done. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Wow. Stop freaking out, everybody. You tried telling my fiance that. Right. Everybody's so freaked out. Let's see. What else is going on in the world? This deal with the federal government stepping in with...
Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Now, this is a bass player and a lead singer for an old-time gospel band that plays at the San Marcos Bowl every Friday night. That's Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, right? No, they're two. No, he's the comedian that died, dude. Yeah, that's just really sad. It's really sad. Or was that Freddie Prince? No, that was Bernie Mac. Oh, that was Bernie Mac. Yeah, you're a little off. No, these are huge mortgage companies. Boy, I could have been a little bit more relevant with that joke, maybe. Yeah. Sky said, you know, Bernie Mac. I said Freddie Prinze. Yeah, well, it's all right. Our minds all work a little different. Some of us are on an 18-year delay. More like 30, but who's counting? Yeah, so the federal government announced over the weekend that they are taking over Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Skye, what is Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae? They are two huge mortgage companies that basically hold about $5 trillion in home loans right now.
So they're two of the big mortgage giants out there right now. You know what we've got to do? We've got to get my neighbor on the line. And I'll tell you why. Because, first of all, he works in that industry, in the mortgage industry. And one thing that he's been saying is that he felt like eventually this was going to happen. Right. That they were going to take over. Yeah, they'd have to be saved. That they were going to have to be saved. Yeah. I believe he felt like it might be a while. And so I got two questions for him. Now that it's happened, I want to know what it means for everybody. And the other thing that I want to know is, is it good news? Is it bad news for the economy? And will this, now that this has happened, signal... Like that things are going to start to change and go the other way. Okay. Because I kind of had the feeling that that's all we were kind of waiting for was when the government was going to do something about this whole thing. Right. And they were waiting.
I don't know why they were waiting. Do you know, Sky, why they were waiting? Well, I guess it was just kind of getting, in my impression from everything I've read this morning, it was kind of getting to that tipping point where, you know, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae had racked up about $12 billion worth of losses since last summer due to this whole mortgage crisis. So it was really getting to that bad area where, you know, if they... If they like fell through, the whole mortgage industry would be like shot. Like, you know, interest rates would be sky high. It would be so hard to borrow money for houses, for cars. You know, everything would suffer. Plus, there are a lot of like foreign investors and foreign banks that own, you know, huge chunks of stock in both of those. Those would be affected. It could be, you know, a worldwide problem. But the reason why they waited is because. You kind of want things to work out themselves, if at all possible. Because when the government takes over, that means you, me, Sky, everybody, we're paying the bill. It would be best for us not to have to pay the bill. So they waited as long as they could. I wonder how that will manifest itself in us paying the bill. Will it manifest itself in that money that's already available in government coffers will be used to cover it?
Does it mean we're going to have to raise taxes to pay for it? Most likely it will manifest in cuts. And it will probably be cuts that most of us won't see. Yeah, they say that the move, the government is giving about $200 billion in support to these two companies right now with the bailout. But they won't necessarily spend all of it. Right, right. But positive. For people like us is we should. First of all, the markets were already up this morning due to this decision. Like Sean was saying, you know, that there's a lot of foreign investors involved. So the markets are already up, which is a good thing. And then another good thing is, you know, when this all works out, we should see a drop in mortgage prices. They say you could see. a drop on the 30-year fix for about half a point, which is a pretty substantial. Man, that sounds like grown-ups talking. Okay, so say right now. Pretend I'm just a child making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the kitchen. And mom just said that, and I'm like.
Man, I wonder when Three's Company starts. Okay, little Mikey. You know how you really wanted to buy the brand new Barbie dream home? Yeah. And you only had... Well, I didn't want the Barbie dream home. I wanted the Ken dream home. Man mansion. The man mansion. Okay, you know how you want to buy the Barbie man mansion? Yeah. Yes. Something else. Well, you didn't have all the money, so you had to borrow a little bit of it to buy the man mansion. Right. Well, right now you're going to pay about 6.5% interest on everything you need to borrow to buy your man mansion. So that's the rate, 6.5% interest. If I have the best possible credit. Right, if you're stellar, 6.5%, okay? Okay. Well, with this new thing. If we wait a little while and wait for this all to take effect, you could borrow money to buy your Barbie man mansion for just 6%. So instead of paying 6.5% interest on your money, you're going to pay 6%, which will allow you to qualify for more money. If what happens? When this all works out. Oh, when the government taking over. When they rescue Fannie and Freddie. And there's a lot of people who are on the edge, on the cusp of being able to buy a home. That will put them.
into the category of finally being able to buy again. Okay, but little Mikey making the peanut butter sandwich doesn't understand because it sounds like the difference between half a percent isn't that big a deal. Well, when you're talking about half a percent on $500,000, that's a lot of money. So like Sean was saying, it will allow more people to get into the housing market. Hopefully people will start buying homes, which will bring the prices of homes back up. you know, rescue people who have seen their home prices drop. Yeah. So it's good. I don't want to move anytime soon. No. But I hate the idea of living in a house that's not worth very much. Yeah. Or not worth what you paid for it, you know? Mm-hmm. Well, lots of people right now owe more than their house is worth. And that is a scary thought because if you lose your job, like, oh, oh, ah-ha. Uh-huh. Yeah, it's not good. Yeah. So this, I think, is a good thing. You know, like Sean said, you don't like government getting too involved in everybody's business. But when they're rescuing something, that's good. All right. Let's do this. Let's give you the phone number. It's 570-1053. Our text number, 35253. Sean Merriman will be on the phone next. So when we come back, we're going to be talking to Sean Merriman. Perfect game win yesterday, but in the eighth got broken up. But still, the Padres beat up the Brewers 10-1. Nice. Shawnee, do you have descriptions of those charger cuts from yesterday? Yeah, I do. I just sent something to the printer. So just turn around, grab it. The last page has the update. Nice. Let's see. Sports. I believe this was the nail in the coffin. Cut 70. Two seconds left. 24-19 San Diego. Shotgun formation. Three receivers right. Two to the left. High snap. A bobble by Del Ohm. He's got time. He pump fakes. Goes to the end zone. Talina. Dante Rosario has won the game for the Panthers in the back of the end zone. Can you believe that? Can you believe that? It was awful. And we got, let me tell you something. We have the best people to talk to about it right now. This is the Bud Light Sean Merriman Report.
We have Sean Merriman on the phone, and in the studio we have Charger play-by-play announcer Josh Lewin. Welcome, Josh. Hi, Mikey. How you doing, man? You know. I know it. Sean, are you there? Hey, what's up, man? What's going on? Not too much, dude. Let me tell you something. As it happened yesterday, as those last few moments, I was talking about it this morning as we started the show, and I said it was one of those situations where, in my mind, I knew it was a Charger victory. It was like, hey, but this is making it a little bit dramatic, and who doesn't love a little drama? Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine that it would end the way that it did in a heartbreak in the last two seconds, but that's the game. That's the NFL, and that's playing football, I would guess, right? You know, a great play was made at the end of the game. If you sit back and ask me who was going to win that game the last few minutes, I would have said no doubt it would have been us. They went out there and made a great play. So how does Norv Turner, head coach Norv Turner, how does he address this in the locker room when you guys go in? Or does he say anything at all? Well, he says things overall in general. I mean, we don't actually go over things. We get a chance to watch the film. I mean, you know, like I said, you know, things are never as good as they are on film and never as bad as they are either.
When you sit back and you're really watching a film, you get to kind of observe and see what you did right or see what you did wrong and address it then. Sean Merriman on the line. We talk to Sean every Monday after the Chargers play. And, Sean, scale of 1 to 10, how was your pain? Right now, it's pretty good. I mean, to be honest, my adrenaline is probably still going. I played football less than, I guess, 24 hours now. So, you know, my adrenaline is pretty good. I don't feel too much pain right now. How about during the game, scale of 1 to 10? Yeah, during the game, it's more of a restriction because of the brace I'm wearing. So that's what it really came down to, getting used to kind of a bulky brace I go out there and play with. I couldn't help but notice, as I was watching the game yesterday, and I heard a former player say this before the game started, that your opponents would be teeing off on your knee. And as I was watching the game, I couldn't help but notice that it did seem, in fact, there was a penalty for it. Against the Panthers. The penalty, I think that, you know, it's so funny how things get started. I mean, he didn't get a penalty for going after my knee. He got a penalty for me being blocked by offensive tackle and him chopping me at the same time. Basically like almost a high-low block.
Do you feel that they were going after your knees yesterday? No, not at all, man. I mean, the guy's a little teeny running back. I mean, there's not too much you can really do to my knees in the first place. I mean, it wasn't like some big 350-pound lineman who was trying to roll me up on purpose. I mean, it was a little guy that went after a cut block or a child block. So I didn't look at it like that at all. They flagged him forward, and it was taking action. Sky, you got a question? Well, yeah, so we know you wear the brace during the game on your knee, you know, for extra protection. What do you do after the game? Do you go in like a spa? Do you ice it? Maybe a little tiger bomb on there? What do we do? You just try to ice it and take care of it because, you know, you really don't find out how your body feels until midweek. It's kind of like a car accident. That's without my situation. That's in anybody's situation because your adrenaline wears down and, you know, you get a chance to sit around for a while. You're not practicing. Just yet. So you get a chance to feel what your body feels like during a week. So I'm just observing my body every single day. And if I can do it, I'm going to go out and play and go all the way all six takes. I recommend the Tiger Balm. The sky is big on Tiger Balm. I'm a fan. It feels good. Hey, Sean, what was the overall feeling about the team's play? I mean, it ended in a crazy play. But overall, how did you feel that the game went for you guys?
You know, we felt they went good, but, you know, we think that we need to make some stops early on. Yeah. Because it kind of plays a role and it plays a factor in the game, and it did. And, you know, we made a fourth in the key three field goals, and I think that's a very good thing we played, to be honest. I wasn't too upset that we lost. I was more upset how we lost. You know, it came down a few takes of the game, and sometimes you've got to make those big plays when they matter. Right. Wow. Well, like I said, it's the game. That's what happens. You've got to think those guys get paid, too, as much as you want to sit back and say that shouldn't happen or that's never going to happen. You've got guys on the other side of the ball who don't get paid for making plays like they did at the end of the game. I saw two guys back there on the pass right by the time I turned my head. I thought the game was over. We won it because we had a guy covered up. We had two guys back there, and he just somehow squeezed in there and caught the pass. Right. You watch any SportsCenter last night when you got home, or did you go right to bed? Yeah, I'll get a chance to watch some highlights. Did you see the biggest story in the NFL right now is Tom Brady? Oh, I wouldn't know. I wouldn't know. That was just only the top headlines on every channel there is right now. Right. I said they practically broke into the Cartoon Network to announce that yesterday. Yeah. I mean, it was... I think I see them.
I've seen it on CNN, too, while I was at it. Sure, man. Seriously. But that's, yeah, that's the biggest story. And, hey, did you get a chance to see what your former teammate Michael Turner did yesterday? I heard he's been turning it up, man. I'm proud of him. Dude, he's leading the NFL right now, one game down. He's leading the NFL with 220 yards and two touchdowns yesterday. Yeah, I think he had a majority of that before halftime or something like that. Wow. Got a chance to, I'm happy for him, man. I'm happy to see him get a chance, you know, because it's a business and he went to another team. I'm sure he didn't want to, but he did. So me being a friend of his, I just, you know, wanted to succeed other than that. What do we plan? Yeah, right. Sean, what way do you like to communicate more? Phone conversations or text message out of the two? I'm a text message guy. You love the text message. Yeah, I think it's one of the easiest things to do in the world. I mean, you can practically do anything and still text. What's your device? Do you go iPhone, BlackBerry, Sidekick? What are you rocking? I'll tell you when either one of those guys start paying me. Over to this point, Sean. It's like this now. I'm a BlackBerry guy. Hey. I use the BlackBerry. Oh, dude, you could have got $7 million from...
from iPhone if you had just waited for them to call you. Yeah. That's funny. Yeah, there was a Falcon team record set yesterday. We were just mentioning with Michael Turner yesterday, former teammate of Sean's. He set a Falcon team record. I thought that was pretty cool. Well, listen, yesterday it was a heartbreak, but you guys pick yourself up and dust yourselves off and get ready for next week. Who's next week? We got Denver. Oh. And is it in Denver or is it here? I think it's in Denver. I think we go to them first. Do you take today? What day do you guys get off between now and then? Tomorrow. Every NFL team, next Tuesday off. Tuesday's off. Okay, so today you go in there, you look at film, you ice up, you, I guess, talk with the trainers and kind of get your bodies back physically, and then back to work on Wednesday. Exactly. There it is. All right, Sean. Hey, listen, man. We appreciate it, and we'll talk to you again next Monday, hopefully after a victory over the Broncos. Yeah. All right. Thanks, man. Appreciate it. Thanks, man. Catch the Bud Light Sean Merriman Report exclusively every Monday on The Mikey Show on Rock 105.3. When we come back, Josh, we will be talking to you about your very unique perspective. Oh, I got unique. Oh, no. I got unique. Well, no. Yeah, I got unique.
You know, it's so funny, man, because yesterday I was watching the game. I was sitting at the island in our kitchen watching the TV that we have in the kitchen. And my jaw was dropped open, you know, with that play. As I'm sure all Charger fans' jaws were dropped open. I was just staring at the screen. And I said earlier, I was thinking. Oh, I'm sure there'll be a flag. Like, this isn't happening. I'm sure something will happen that will change all this and it isn't really playing out. I had the same thing. And the only thing I can equate it to, and it's a horrible, I mean, it doesn't really match, but I was trying to remember when recently if I had that feeling like, no. Really? No. No. This can't be. When I'm watching CNN and it comes across that Bernie Mac died. Really? Like, what? Really? No. And then you're waiting for it to be like, you know, wait, that's a typo. And then you realize, wait, no. For real? Yeah. And so, I mean, and actually it happened twice in that game when the fumble was taken in from Gates. No, that didn't really. That guy's in the end zone. That counts? Yeah. Really? Well, same thing at the end of the game. Hey, man, and credit to you. The very next thought I had in my head was, oh.
I want to know what Josh and Hank are saying right now. Well, I'm here for you, brother. That's right. So we'll hear all about it next. Don't go away. Better mileage tips presented by Chevron. How fast are you going right now? Really? That fast? So what's your hurry? Did you know that if you slowed down just a little, you'd get better mileage? It's true. If you drove 55 miles per hour on the highway instead of 65 miles per hour, you could go about 30 to 60 more miles on a tank of gas. It's like the story of the tortoise and the hare. You know, slow and steady wins the race. And that also applies to city driving. When you're stopped at a traffic light and it turns green, avoid the jackrabbit start. Don't punch the gas. It's not a race. Just accelerate smoothly and gradually. And let's face it. You'll catch up to those other cars at the next light anyway. So remember, a heavy foot equals a light gas tank. And that's another great way to get the most out of your Chevron with Tecron. Learn more mileage tips by visiting chevronwithtecron.com. Car Country, Carlsbad. I-5, Cannon Road, Car Country, Carlsbad. The Chargers, Bud Light, and Rock 105.3. It's game day. Sleep train mattress centers. Weather-wise getting a little bit tougher as this winds along here this morning. Northbound 805 now slows from Plaza Boulevard up towards Division. Gets you again from Home Avenue up into North Park. And now a brief delay coming out of Kearney Mesa. The West 94 King Freeway, that's backing up a bit from Kelton to the 805 Freeway. You make the right-hand turn onto that northbound 805. Slows again from the 15 connector in the downtown. West 8, though, looking pretty good. You've got a pretty easy ride. There's a few brick guides from Johnson Avenue out to around El Cajon Boulevard as you come out of the El Cajon Valley, and then you're pretty much on your way from there into Mission Valley. The West 52 with a Santee. That's starting to stack up here up to 125 over the Mission Trail Summit. South 15 coming out of Escondido, getting a little bit rougher up to 78 to Villarancho Parkway. Bunching up again from Carmel Mountain Road off and on into Poway.
And we're starting to see some brake lights now in the South 5 coming down the North County shoreline from Santa Fe Drive down to Loma Santa Fe Drive. I'm McLaurin on Rock 105.3. From the Cricket Wireless Studios. It's funny to me that I laugh so deep. San Diego's Rock 5.3. And now more Mikey. I'm a strange guy. Strange person. Eddie. I once played chicken with a squirrel and lost. Yes, it makes me feel bigger to minimize everything. Here we go. Save that clip. Sean. I'm a germaphobe. Austin Robb. It's a transient style that I've developed. And Ashley. Due to my carelessness, I'm extremely prone to self-inflicting injury. The Mikey Show's on. Rock 105.3. Mikey Show, welcome back. It's 720.
The new Nick Cage flick, Bangkok Dangerous, was the number one movie this weekend, making only $7.8 million in one of the slowest box office weekends in years. Eddie is sick, so unfortunately you're stuck with Boston Rob doing the sports today. Old man Brett Favre celebrated his debut with the New York Jets, leading them to a victory 2014 over the Dolphins. It wasn't all bad yesterday. It takes brass balls. It wasn't all bad yesterday. Cut. 72. Rivers in the right hash. Five-step drop. Good pocket this time. Now he's looking downfield. Has the man towards the end zone. Caught. Sounds good with porn or under it. It does. It really does. I like that. Well, that was good times there. But then, unfortunately, cut 70. Two seconds left. 24-19 San Diego.
Shotgun formation. Three receivers right. Two to the left. High snap. A bobble by Del Ohm. He's got time. He pump fakes. Goes to the end zone. Dante Rosario has won the game for the Panthers in the back of the end zone. Oh, man. That was Josh Lewin's call. He is the lead voice for the San Diego Charger broadcast. He's in the studio with us right now, and that had to be tough to say. I mean, it was such a thunderstruck feeling. That happened, didn't it? Wow. Dante Rosario, he caught six passes all last year. He caught seven yesterday. The last one with zeros on the clock. Oh, no. Yeah, I know. But it happens. You had lights out on your airwaves seven minutes ago saying, basically, hey, it happens. It's football. It's a good team. They're getting paid. They made a play. We were talking to first baseman.
Adrian Gonzalez, first baseman for the San Diego Padres, and we asked him what percentage of the game is mental. He said 80. That's pretty high for baseball. That's a high number. That's a high number. I don't know what the percentage is for football players in the NFL, what percentage of the game is mental, but I hope that they can somehow dust that off. Because that had to be gross in the belly. Gross. Gross in the belly. I think they've already brushed it off, Mike. I mean, the fans, us, you know, we sit around all day at work today, and we talk about it, and we go through it. I mean, it's not that they're cavalier about it. It's not that they don't care. But, I mean, watching the guys get in their cars yesterday. You know, I mean, you have to turn the page. You have to. Well, that's because they were getting in Bentleys. That's why it was easy. That was part of the reason it wasn't that bad. It helps when your escalator is being brought around for you. Yeah. That'll cushion the blow. I guess that. Kind of cushions the blow a little bit. But we move on. We, you know, we listen to our hot-blooded by Foreigner and eat cookies in your studio and we do what we do. What was your impression of everything leading up to that moment?
What was your impression of the Chargers' performance? I mean, it was spotty. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't, you know, they weren't quite, you know, 100% running on what they could do in a perfect world. It was fine. It was good enough to win a football game. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. And, you know, they, I think Carolina's going to be a pretty good team. And you look, I mean, I don't know if it makes anybody feel better, but Indianapolis at home gets rolled by Chicago. You know, I mean, there's other teams yesterday. Cleveland's supposed to be very good in the AFC this year. Got stomped on by an NFC team in their building. You know, so it happened to some other teams yesterday. And, you know, and this is also going to sound, and cover your ears, Boston Rob, but Tom Brady ain't around now. You know, so the Patriots are not going to do much better than want to know where they are right now. You know, so there's an open. Yeah, it's a very vast landscape right now. Nobody's established themselves after week one as being, wow, they look too good to beat. So it's not, you know, the Chargers fell down yesterday, but it's not like you look around and say anything close to, wow, this is going to be a long season. Hey, listen, we're healthy. Look at what happened yesterday. Matt Cassel's the new starting quarterback for the Patriots, like you said. And then you're right. With what happened in Indianapolis, I heard...
I heard John Madden before the game started last night say, hey, listen, this is going to be tough because you can't just miss all that football and be a guy walking off. Even if you're Peyton Manning, you can't just walk off the street and walk into a football game in the NFL and just. Beat people. And he was right. And the Chargers had a bunch of guys trying to do that yesterday from Gates on down, you know, from Ehrman on down. But one good thing that came out of yesterday, Mikey, and, you know, we haven't said his name yet, but, boy, Phillip Rivers looked great. Yeah, he did. Because he was getting harassed. He was getting, I mean, he was just getting steamrolled. And he stood his ground. He made good decisions. You know, Phillip Rivers, I thought, was the best thing going yesterday. Yeah, Phillip Rivers, I think probably now, is really starting to get into that. part in his career where he just blooms, right? Where he just really flourishes and becomes fantastic. Yeah, he should. I think he takes it a little personally that of the other quarterbacks in that vaunted draft class, the other guys have got their bling. The Super Bowl jewelry is on Eli Manning's finger. It's on Roethlisberger's finger now. He doesn't have that yet. As long as the ACL thing...
is okay. He's going to be okay. And that was a big deal yesterday. How is he going to come back? I thought he looked great. Do you play fantasy football? Do I play fantasy football? I play a little too much fantasy football. How many leagues are you in? I got three, but I'm committed. You know what I'm saying? I mean, it's tough. I mean, during the commercial breaks of the games, you know, you're listening to Charger football on the Chargers radio network. Okay. How's Kyle Orton doing? Do I have Kyle Orton? Oh, my God. How's the Patriots defense doing? Do I have that? Which league are they in? So, yeah, no, I'm committed. You don't really have Kyle Orton. I really don't, no. I was trying to pick somebody random for you there. No, I like fantasy football. I need to stop liking it as much. Your best league in terms of a team. Tell me your best team in one of your leagues. Probably the team I'm running is Giggity Giggity Goo. That's the name of your team. Because you name your teams. Yeah, it's a Quagmire reference. That's a great one. For the record, my team has been called for the last four years, been called the Crazy 88s. That's my team. Really? The Crazy 88s. Isn't that a bunch of girl assassins? Three championship, no. It's a bunch of Japanese guy assassins. Thank you very much.
In business suits. I thought they were girls. In business suits. Shouldn't that team be Ocho Ocho now? Yeah, it should be Ocho Ocho. It should. You know what, though? I operate on a theory that I'm more interested in how people name their teams and who's on their teams. Because to me, nothing, and no offense, Mikey, I'll tell you who's on my teams. But, I mean. If you don't play fantasy football, what a 30-second buzzkill that is. If you play fantasy football, which a lot of people do, all I want to do is compare and hope that I'm better than you are. All right. Roethlisberger, Turner, Joseph Adai, Vincent Jackson, Antonio Gates, Reggie Wayne, Chargers defense, and I'm forgetting somebody. Show off. Thank you. That's great. That's a good team. Tell them who you got, Mike. Tell me who you are on the Crazy 88. Let me tell you something. I was real. I said on the radio that I thought that this was the worst fantasy football team I'd ever drafted, and I was high points in the league yesterday. See how that happens? I know. Brett Favre. Had a good game. Had a decent game. He was fine. Had a touchdown. Threw for a couple hundred yards. Frank Gore. Great game. Good pick. Had a great game. Michael Turner. Yeah, good for you.
Best player in the league right now. Yesterday. Best player in the league. And I took him because I watched a preseason game with him, and I thought he looked magnificent. And he was one of those top 15 guys that I said, man, I really want him because he was a charger, and I want to be rooting for him. And look what he did. Andre Johnson, the kid from Denver that's suspended for a game. It'll be Brandon Marshall. Kellen Winslow. Nick Folk, and the Cowboys defense. No, it's a good team, but 30 seconds of Skye's life that she'll never get back. That's right. That's true. Well, I did get a nice little cat nap, so I am feeling refreshed now. But it's like asking what's on your iPod, and you rattle off like 20 songs, and you could be into it. We do that bit, too. But after a while, it's Rosser. The reason that that is incorrect is because everyone likes to compare and see, am I better than you? That's what it is, really. That's what it is. How's my team stack up against your team? So I can say to you, huh, well, But if I'm thinking in my mind, I got that guy. Oh, I got him. I got him. For the rest of the day, I'm feeling good about myself. That's right. Here is some of the text messages we're getting at 35253. Mikey, I was at the game. Those final seconds went from 10 billion decibels to about negative five. It was like the cone of silence, dude. Really? And then crickets. It was sad. It was. It was just, what happened? All of a sudden, you're just...
Really? I guess that happened and we have to leave now. And is that what you did on the air? Did you have sort of a what-just-happened sort of deal? No, because I knew exactly what happened. I couldn't believe that Wilhelm and Weddle were both there and somehow nobody got a hand on it. It boggled my mind. And this all happens in .02 seconds. It's just flying through your head, but you're just like, wow, Del Ohm made an unbelievable throw. That guy in the back of the end zone, I mean, and that was a fastball, dude. I mean, that was 90 miles an hour coming at Dante Rosario. He didn't bobble it at all. It just stuck. Great catch. If you were the head coach of the Chargers, who would be a couple of guys that you would pull over today and say, guys, we got to step it up a little bit? Well, you know, the guys that... that do, I think, already know who they are. I don't think Norv has to say, hey, I don't know if you know this, but you need to tackle a little better. You know, I mean, there's a couple guys that got out slowly yesterday, and it happens, you know, I mean, but they were still in position to win that game. They hadn't allowed a touchdown from the Carolina offense for basically 60 minutes. I mean, it was triple zeros on the clock when that thing happened. So, I mean, you can say they went the full 60 minutes, kept Carolina out of the end zone on offense. All right. Oh, well. Now this question. Yeah. Last question.
Josh Lund, our play-by-play guy for the Chargers, who, by the way, I think you're the best in the business. Man, dude, I hear your voice on SportsCenter. I hear your voice on video games. I hear your voice on everything, man. Well, you know what I've got to get better at, though? Because I'm so seldom in town, Mikey, because I've still got baseball going on back in Texas. Once baseball's over and I'm out here, I want to get out. I need the P1s to tell me where to go play some music, where to go hang and hear some music. Absolutely. doing the San Diego thing a little bit better. So here's the final question. Talk to me about Denver. Denver's not bad. We're going to find out about Denver tonight because they haven't played yet. Somebody's going to be 1-0, and that's it in the AFC West. There's going to be three 0-1s, and the Chargers are one of them. Denver plays Oakland tonight. Denver's got Jay Cutler, who's ascending. He's a good quarterback. They're without Brandon Marshall for this one game, and that will hurt them. You know, but the Panthers were without Steve Smith. And the Chargers lost that game. So I think Denver's going to be a little bit better than some people think. That's not an easy game next week. And I don't even want to think about what 0-2 would do to this town. No, no. Don't say it. He can't say it. Oh, no. I think the Chargers go in and win. I'm just saying it ain't 23-3 like last Christmas. Seth picks our music beds and... Say it.
I guess he wanted to, listen, he wanted to kind of just get us into a nice little rhythm with this one. You know what I'm saying? It's got a nice groove to it. Yeah, sexy time. Little Commodores? What is this? What is this? Cool and the Gang? Cool and the Gang. It is Cool and the Gang. How about that? Our text number is 35253. And our phone number is 5701053. Tyra Banks will be on the show next. Get out! Awesome! That's right. Tyra Banks is next. You are listening to The Mikey Show. Indeed you are. King Henry, why are you looking so sad? This kind of winds along here, so watch for the brake lights now as you head out the door. We're going to see a busier ride out of the South Bay, both the 5-8-5 northbound. Getting pretty tough now on both these free routes. Coming out of Chula Vista up in the National City. 805 jamming up again over the 8th freeway up to around Mesa College as folks head to school there. And once you get past that, a brief delay coming out of Kearney Mesa heading up over to 52. West 94 and the King Freeway. That's jamming up now from Federal to the 805 and then slows again from 28th Street into downtown. Still looking pretty good on the westbound H. Wolf finds a backup, though, out of the Cajon Valley coming in from east of the Greenfield. East Main, rather. And now slowing us a little bit around Johnson Avenue. From there, it's a good-looking ride into Mission Valley.
West 52 jammed up pretty good, though, from the 125, heading slow up the hill over the Mission Trail 7. South 15, pretty much bumper to bumper now out of Escondido, struggling down the Via Rancho Parkway. And then you're going to find heavy traffic developing around Carmel Mountain Road, and that stays slow down into Poway, pretty much now all the way down to Miramar in the South 15, getting heavier there for sure. Westbound 56, also seeing some brake lights now coming out of Panasquitos around Camino. They'll serve them again from Carmel Valley to the 5. And the coaster ride out of the North County South.5 finale stove from Lucadia into Solana Beach. Dan Rick Lawrence on Rocket 05.3. Let me tell you, Eddie went in to sleep train and he's going to get all dialed in. Yeah, I cannot wait, man. I have had the same mattress for easily 15 years. Are you serious? Yeah, 15 years. And so, you know, it's still in great shape. Shockingly, that thing is still in great shape. No. But it's time. It's time for a change. The wife, I have a very firm mattress and she hates it. Yeah. She's ready for a more softer one. Yeah. And I kind of am too. Like I've had back problems, you know, for a long time. So I'm definitely ready for a change too. So it's going to be really cool. Sky, firm mattress for you or soft mattress? Medium. Yes. Right in the middle. Yeah. Eddie likes a firm mattress. Well.
You are going to be so happy when you get on that thing. Well, what's cool is that for people like us who have the different styles, they have what's called a sleep number mattress where you actually get to dial up the firmness on your side. That's cool. So it's really cool. Hey, if you've bought a mattress from Sleep Train and you really love the experience, please call us, will you, at 570-1053. Due to high jet fuel prices, certain airlines are now starting to charge fees to use your frequent flyer miles. Our boy Eddie is out, so me, Boston Rob, is going to be filling in for the sports. It's kind of like Tom Brady going down with a knee injury and Matt Castle having to fill in. That's right. Hopefully I'm good enough. We will be talking to Tyra Banks in just a little bit.
And it's going to be interesting to talk to her. One of the things that I remember that came up a while back was Tyra Banks encouraging women who are overweight. Now the thing is, is that I don't quite remember. exactly what it was. Do you, Skye? Yeah, remember she was photographed on the beach in her bathing suit and then there were all these headlines, oh, Tyra's like an elephant, Tyra's so overweight, Tyra's huge, you know, and then she went on her show in that same bathing suit that she was, you know, photographed by the paparazzi in and was saying, you know what, I love my body. There's no problem if I want to eat a hamburger or whatever. I love my body. I'm comfortable. I'm a real woman and I encourage all you other women to be real women too. Yeah, I think that the deal is, is that maybe the American culture has what a woman should look like as being this unhealthy wafiness. Right. Anorexic, heroin chic. Right, right, right. And I don't believe that that's the right thing for women. In fact, when we heard, what is that term? Somebody said something about there was a TV show where they wanted to do a reality show.
And they wanted the women to be within a certain weight. Yeah, the MTV model spin-off show, yeah. And I don't remember what the weight was. Do you, Sky? I think... It was 5'9 was the shortest you could be and 130 pounds. And they consider that like overweight, like somebody they need to fix up a 5'9, 130 pounds. Well, we Googled it, and I thought that the girls that we saw at that height and weight were beautiful. Oh, yeah, please. And didn't need to lose any weight. Anyway, we'll talk to Tyra Banks because Tyra Banks was pretty outspoken about women's bodies. I think we have her. Oh, hello. Tyra. Hello. How are you? I'm good. How are you? I'm doing good. I actually, listen, I have found your career to be very, very interesting. What you've done, where you've come from, and kind of who you are on television. Because one thing that I think that producers probably saw in you early on was that you had the ability to be yourself on television. Yeah. And so that's what kind of got you into the position that you're in now.
Yeah, I feel more comfortable being myself than acting and doing movies and stuff. So it's my niche. So here you are. Yeah. Now, one of the things that we were talking about, in fact, we were just talking about it right now, was you were photographed wearing a bikini and you came on television and you said, hey, listen, I'm going to wear that bikini. Yes. And you were very outspoken about that bikini and the way that you're... Your body image. Yes. And I thought that was interesting. And I wanted to talk to you about it because at the time, my feeling on that is, well, I certainly hope that you weren't encouraging women to be overweight. No. Okay. Okay. That's fair. Because I guess everybody should be healthy, right? Yeah. I mean, there's a difference between when you say overweight, do you mean out of shape or do you mean obesity that's unhealthy? two totally different things man what a fair question and yeah yeah and i guess um man i i don't know i don't want to answer too quickly and say well what i think by that is that it needs to fit into the parameters of what a doctor because you know a lot of times what the doctors say seems anorexic
I mean, it seems like what the doctor guide says doesn't seem healthy. Yes. No, it wasn't an excuse for people to be unhealthy. And on the Tyra show, we are constantly talking about weight loss to get people to be healthy. But at the same time, we don't want to put pressures on women to have to feel they need to look a certain way and to be skinny, to be beautiful. There's a balance. At that time, Tyra, did you feel that the way that your body looked in the bikini was overweight? What do you mean by overweight? I don't understand. I don't know what you mean. Well, I think that the best way to figure that out would be how do you define overweight? I think we're getting a little bit too caught up in overweight and not my new season that aired. Oh, come on. We're going to talk about the new season, no doubt about it. But you're an interesting person, Tyra. If you didn't answer the question, I'm not going to be put on the spot. Okay. All right. That's fair. That's fair. Then I will. I feel very uncomfortable and that's not even your niche. Wait a minute. What's not my niche? Asking questions? No, no, no. No, the women's body image stuff. No, no, no, no. Well, wait a minute. Everybody's got a feeling or something about a typical or a topic. Let's talk about the new season. Well, I think I'd rather guide the interview. But I'm also an interviewer, too, so that's why we're betting. I understand. But this time you're getting interviewed and I'm asking the questions. And I absolutely want to promote your new television show. Well, thank you, Mikey. In fact, I'll let everybody know that America's Next Top Model is going to air on Wednesday.
on The CW at 8, 7 Central. Yes. And The Tyra Banks Show kicks off today for its fourth season at 2 p.m. on Fox. Yes, and it's interesting that you're talking about beauty and body image because that is something that I stand for. It is my mission in life to expand what beauty means and to pull down the wall of, you know, people thinking that people are born into this perfection. Oh, thank you. Now, by all means, I mean, to be honest, some people do hit the genetic lottery, but that is not everybody. That is not the majority of people in Hollywood. So I get a lot of mail from young girls saying that they are insecure, that they're not glamorous, that they don't feel great. And so I decided to start my talk show a different way. I know you guys see me start the talk show. A lot of times I walk out on the Tyra Show runway and I'll be all made up and it takes two hours to get to look like that. So I decided to kind of flip the script a bit. And to have me walk out with that two hours of hair and makeup, but also to walk out at the same time with the help of special effects right next to the glam me with the me that looks like how she looks when she wakes up in the morning. With no makeup on and sweats on and my hair in a scarf because I sleep with a scarf on my head. Of course. It's not glamorous. I think that's great. I think that's awesome. So it's kind of getting back to what you were talking about, but I just kind of want to focus on this season. Listen, Tyra.
Tyra, I get one crack at talking to Tyra Banks. That was a big thing on our show. And so, you know, and I thought you were interesting. I thought it was interesting. It sounds like maybe it's a touchy subject and you don't want to go there. No, it's not that it's touchy. It's just that I, you know, it's usually, it can be, I can be asked about it in many different ways. And when somebody interviews you, as an interviewer, I know that you put your opinion in the question. So, you understand what I'm saying, Mikey? Yeah, and that's why, with the utmost respect. So, I'd rather you talk about your opinion than ask me questions in a way that... About your opinion? Yeah, it's okay, Mikey. I just want to know your opinion, that's all. And I've got to share mine. And when you say something I think is fair, I say, hey, I think that's fair. So, hey, listen, I thought it was an interesting topic, and I won't go there if you don't want to talk about it. It's my passion. Do you understand what I'm saying? It's my passion. That's why I want to know more about it, Tyra. That's why I'm confused, Tyra, that you kind of shut it down. I want to know. If it's your passion, but you want to focus on this season, but that's your passion. But don't ask me about it. But I'm asking, I'm talking about this season, guys. I'm talking about this season and my passion about beauty and body image and the pressures that women have. Tyra, I've been bulimic in my life. Have you really? Yeah, I have. Yeah, I have. Wow. I've been, I am a recovering alcoholic.
You're talking to a guy that Christ has changed my life. Oh, my gosh, Mikey. That is like. Well, yeah, yeah, yeah. And so I tell you that because you don't know who you're getting when you call in and you're on the radio. You don't know who you're getting. I'm not trying to attack you, honestly. No, no, no. I didn't feel that you were attacking me at all. I'm trying to ask, like, questions that I really want to know. Yeah, I don't think you were attacking me at all, Mikey, at all. Okay. I didn't feel that at all. Okay, because I really did want to. No, I didn't feel it was attack at all. It was just, it's hard to answer certain questions. I get the drop of a hat. You know what I'm saying? Like I only have a little bit of time and I have like people in the room telling me you got another interview. You got another interview. So that's that's all that is. I mean, I can. Yeah. And, you know, listen. I understand. And my responsibility as an interviewer is to not just give, you know, the typical, well, good morning. It's Tyree Banks on the line. I don't want that. Yeah, you know, come on. I hate interviews like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm giving you some spice here. As an interviewer, I have to steer an interview to make it not be about that. Okay, let's change topics. Oprah recently said that she's not going to have Sarah Palin on her show. Yes.
Have you or are you going through any conversations about things like that with your talk show? Talk to my talk show about Sarah Palin in particular. But we have interviewed almost all of the candidates. I interviewed on The Tyrus Show, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Mike Huckabee and John Edward. And we put, you know, it is you have to put it's legally in the television world. You know how this is, Mikey, and I'm sure radio as well. You have to put out the. the request to all of the camps. Yeah, equal time. So there you go. So we put out the request to the McCain camp months and months and months ago, and they haven't come on yet. So I can't really speak specifically about Sarah Palin. I'm sorry. But I can speak about the McCain camp in general and say that they have not come on. But everybody else has. Willie, is it okay to talk to you? Because one of the things that we were discussing beforehand was that Oprah was okay talking to... Obama before he was the guy, before he was the nominee. Now that he's not the nominee, she wants to keep it fair. How do you guys approach that? Do you invite, even though they're now nominees? We have invited his camp forever. You know what I'm saying? It hasn't stopped. But I don't know if we've gone specifically after Sarah. Do you understand what I mean? All this is so new. All this stuff is just happening now. So I don't really know about that. But I do know that the invite has been out pre and post.
Hey, besides me, who's been your most difficult interview? At all. It's not difficult. I just don't have enough time. It's just very frustrating for me if something is very passionate and I don't have enough time to talk about it. Like if this was like you and I and it was like an hour show, I could go on to see you about that for 20 minutes. Tyra, if you were willing, I'd let you come on and we'd talk about it for an hour because I think it's really interesting too and it's something that I happen to feel pretty passionate about. I'd love to talk to you about it. about your your bulimia how old were you when that happened i was 27 28 actually it was a period of time between about 27 and 29 was it strictly a body image thing or was it more emotional absolutely i mean it's i think it's all tied together but it was uh it was a deal where i wanted people to like me and uh i had been overweight my entire life and i just wanted people to like me and uh so i was doing whatever i could to fit into that uh category and when did you realize he had a like a problem and stuff there was a moment there was a moment that i realized it i was watching tv and i was watching the news and they were doing a special on a girl who was bulimic and she had been doing it for so long that it did something to her body uh physiologically and she was almost like uh sort of in a paralyzed state oh my god and uh i didn't know that that
could happen as a result of making myself throw up. And as soon as I saw that, and I don't know if it was, you know, just God intervening in my life or what it was at that moment, but when I saw that, I never did it again. Wow. And I had been doing that, like I said, for a couple of years. And it was so, that is something that I really feel strongly about too. And so many men don't talk about it. Oh. Like, you know. Please. But there's a lot of stuff I don't talk about that people, guys don't talk about that I talk about. And the reason that I think it's worth talking about is because I think that secrets are what make people nuts. It's true. Secrets make people kind of crazy. And getting secrets out there, I talk about, oh, I won't get into it. No, me too. Sometimes do you have to sense yourself because you just feel like you want to talk about everything? Sure. I'm the same way. Sure. Wait, am I saying too much right now? I have a feeling we'd be friends, to be honest. I think we would, too. I do, too. But I wish that we had more time because I'd love to talk to you about that stuff. So just invite me on the show or something. I'll come on the show and I'll talk about all this stuff. Do you have a view of the water from your...
We don't. I wish we did. I wish we did. We have a view of a very big parking lot. And a dumpster. And a beautiful dumpster. Beautiful dumpster. Oh, that's nice. Yeah. All right. Tyra Banks Show, America's Next Top Model. Wednesdays on the CW, 8, 7 Central. And the Tyra Banks Show kicks off today for its fourth season, 2 p.m. on Fox. And a memorable interview. Definitely a memorable. Mikey. We have to have more time next time, and then you can ask me all about that. That's right. I can't rush that. It's just there's so many young girls listening, I can't give a quick soundbite about that because it's so deep. You understand? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Next time, oh man, I had a lot of good stuff for you. I had a lot of good questions lined up, but we just don't have time. Next time. Alright, Tyra. Bye. See ya. Tyra Banks. Whoa! Dude! Wow! Dude, I wanted to get into... The Naomi Campbell stuff. I really want to dig in there. I'm really interested to hear how her other interviews are going this morning. Because obviously this is part of a radio tour where she's doing a bunch of different stations. Because to me, this is just my take, it seemed like she is so uncomfortable being interviewed.
She is the interviewer. Like the first opportunity she had to turn that table on you and start asking you questions, she was so comfortable. But when she's being asked questions about innocent, non-controversial things, it seemed like she was coming out of her skin. Yeah. And as soon as she started asking me questions, my brain immediately goes to, boy, I'm a little uncomfortable being asked questions for me too. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But my brain instantly also goes to every question that I'm asked. I have to be honest. You got to be in everything you do. If you're honest, always tell the truth because it's the easiest thing to remember. But I kind of I kind of get where she's coming from in that. See, this is what everybody has to remember. You could be talking to somebody and they have this real weird vibe. And the reason that they could have this really weird vibe is because they are dealing with this thing with what you're talking about that you have no idea about. Now, she was honest and said, this is like a big deal for me. So I'm uncomfortable answering extremely important questions when maybe I wasn't really prepared to talk about it. And so and also what like she said.
I'd like some time to be able to get into it instead of just answering in a very off the cuff kind of way. But what I really wanted to get to was what I really wanted to get to with Tyra was, OK, so what's fat? Yeah. You know, I mean, because what's fat? And the reason I want to know that is because she went on her show wearing a bathing suit. At least culturally, we've been trained to recognize her body as overweight. And so I and but when I asked her, hey, Tyra, you're not encouraging women to be overweight, are you? No, no, no, no, no. OK, well, OK, OK. Now, if that's the case, what were you when you wore the bathing suit on TV? Because I want to hear her say, well, I was overweight.
So then I can go, but I thought you said you didn't do that. Or I want to hear her go, well, I was not overweight. So that I can say, okay, well, that's really interesting. Either way, it's interesting to me. Oh, yeah. And there's no, I can't make a judgment on her telling the truth. It's how she feels. Right. And so, but that's what I wanted. I just wanted to know how she felt. And it was like, well, what do you think is fat? Oh, boy. Yeah, it's a good question. It's fair. But, man. That was unexpected, my friend. Yeah. Didn't see that coming. Expect the unexpected around here, right? That's the theme of our show, yeah. The text messages are coming in at 35253. Mikey, if Tyra cares so much about body image, how many plus-size models are on this season of America's Next Top Model? Oh, I want to duck and cover. I'll be her attorney. You want me to be an attorney on this one? Please. The representative for Ms. Tyra Banks? Please. Well, there are no plus-size models on this season of America's Next Top Model, and the reason is because...
America's Next Top Model doesn't focus on plus-size models. But this is Tyra's show, and Tyra has said on multiple occasions, even this morning on the Mikey Morning Show from San Diego, California, that this is her issue. I mean, this is her cause. This is her main concern in life. Yes, yes, that's absolutely true. So if she is the head honcho on this show, why doesn't she not bring her main passion to this show? I had an answer right up until you said she's the head honcho, which I didn't know. I have an answer for her. Is she like the producer of the show? Yeah. This is like her show. It's hers. Oh, I want her back in the line. But I have an answer for that. Go ahead. A plus size model won last year. Okay. Doesn't that say enough right there? Then there it is. There are plus size models. I didn't know. But was she really like... A plus size model? Yeah, what are we calling a plus size model? 86 pounds, 6 feet 4. A plus size model is a plus size model. You know what I mean? It can't, it's not like one. So a size 6. So a size 6 won the show. No, come on. A plus size model, you have to be, to be a plus size model, I believe you have to be a size 10 to 14. But normal models wear 0 to 2. Correct. So nobody represents the size 4 through the size 8. Yeah.
Okay. That's whack. Yeah. How come? A plus-size model, you literally had, in fact, they had a girl audition this year to be a plus-size model on ANTM, America's Next Step Model, and she was too skinny to be a plus-size model. So she was like in between. She was like my size. Like, she's not a size 0, but she's not a size 10. She's maybe a size 6 or 8. So she's like a normal American fat. A normal-sized woman. And there's no place for that. It's weird. That is weird. I never knew that. That's weak. Yeah, here's the text about it. Mikey, why don't you ask her how come she called the last winner of her show a plus-size model when the girl was actually a size 8? Wow. But Tyra referred to her as plus size. And that's like industry talk. Like, I don't think it's Tyra being like, I think she's just. Maybe that's the industry. It's the model industry, which Tyra knows like the back of her hand. And that's the deal. In the industry, that's a plus size model. That's not Tyra's choice.
She's just representing the model industry. She was fat, bro. She was definitely fat. Oh, Sean. I'm sure she wasn't. I'm just saying. I'm sure she wasn't. She wore a tarp. I'm just saying. She did not wear a tarp. How dare you, sir? I'm sick. I can't smile. Our text number is 35253. Our phone number, 5701053. What did you think of the Tyra Banks interview? 5701053. I am not cool. Eddie. I cannot be touched when I'm sleeping. Sky. I am a massage whore, as we all know. Sean. Lately, I've been really obsessed with cleaning in between my fingers. Boston Rob. I love rocking a toothpick, and I never buy them. I get them from restaurants. Ed Ashley. The Mikey Show on Rock 105.3.
Welcome back. It's a Mikey show. It is 815. Friday night celebrity filled stand up to cancer telethon raised over 100 million for cancer research. Boston Rob is filling in for Eddie while he's sick. And now speaking of himself in the third person. And it looks like the debut of Chad Ochocinco is going to be delayed because he's got some financial obligations to Reebok. What? What does that mean? Explain, explain, explain. Did he not play? Like, what are you saying? Well, from what I've read is there's a bunch, a large inventory of Jad Johnson jerseys with the number 85 on there. And they have to do something with them. You know, he's getting, he's legally changed his name. And before they can, you know, put Orcho's, Orcho. What is it? Orcho? Orcho. I don't know. I'm from Boston. It's Orcho. Orcho. Orcho. Orcho Cinco. Before they can put Orcho Cinco on a jersey and start selling those, they've got to figure out what they're going to do with the thousands and thousands of Johnson 85 jerseys. Do you think he's going to actually have to come up with that dough? He's probably going to have to purchase them all. That's gnarly. Right? That's gnarly. What are they going to do? Trash them? But do they like when a player, say, goes to a different team?
And they have to redo all the jerseys? Does that player have to pay for all the unsold jerseys? That doesn't really seem fair, does it? No, they don't. And I'm guessing that their legal team, meaning Reebok, is probably saying we don't because that is official NFL business. That happens with the National Football League. We have an agreement that this is well within the bounds of... But so should... Okay, let's say he had changed his legal name to something that wasn't funny. Yeah, what if he got married and him and his wife decided to hyphenate their names? What if a football player did that? Why are you laughing at that? But Skye, that would never happen. That's so ridiculous. People do that. No, but in her world, that's possible. People do that. And so legally changing your name because you got married? You have a penalty now? You have to buy extra jerseys? You really want to do this right now? I don't know what you are referring to. So in other words, if he got married and he decided that he was going to take on her name, and he was going to be Chad Johnson Thompson. Exactly. Yes. Yes.
I don't know why that's funny to everyone. That would never happen. You don't know that. Oh, you are. Can you imagine what would happen to that player in the locker room if he took on his wife's name? Shamed out of the NFL. That's not the issue. We're talking about the truth. That is the issue now. You've just changed the issue, lady. Oh, my goodness. That's so gnarly. 35253. That's our text number. Stop laughing. Let's see. Shut up. Let's see. Did you guys notice that Fox had Dante Rosario listed as Rosario Dawson on the post-game stats? I thought I saw that. And I'm serious. When that came up, I thought I saw Rosario Dawson. And I was like, no, no, no. Maybe I'm tripping out because, you know, it's only up for a second. That's hilarious. A very attractive Latina actress. Yeah. Do you have her on your fantasy football team? Yeah, I drafted her in the third round.
Based strictly on her performance in Clerks 2. Mikey, did you watch the show Hole in the Wall last night? What the heck? I saw it. Looked hysterical. What is that? It's that thing Ellen does on her show, Ashley. I know. Yeah, yeah. I know. Did you guys watch? Check me out. Yeah, I watched it. She ripped it off from the Japanese. The Japanese have been doing it on television for years. They cut holes in a wall, and then they have the wall move, and you have to jump through the different shapes that they make. It's hysterical. Sarah at the front auditioned for that show. Did she really? Yeah. The front desk? Uh-huh. Did she not get chosen or get chosen? I guess something happened with the set the day she went up there. It collapsed and they sent him home. That sucks. It's a gnomon. Yeah. So was it funny to watch Seth? It's kind of a one-trick pony, but it was funny for like 10 minutes. Oh. It's not that great over a 30-minute time span? No, definitely not. Really? Speaking of game shows.
Boston Rob auditioned for Wipeout this weekend. Oh, yeah, dude. Right, Rob? Oh, let's talk about it. So what happened? Auditions are interesting because of the people that show up. That is true. I would not know. Like some dude with a big old tat on his throat? Yeah, exactly. Like that kind of guy? Yeah. You're one of them. I was one of the normies. Oh, really? Yeah. I'm sure. Come on. It was at Seau's down in Mission Valley. And I got there. It was from 11 to 3, but I got there a little bit late and hoping that the line would kind of fizzle out. Yeah, I'm sure that's why he got there. I'm sure that was his master plan. Well, I showed up at about 1.15. 1.15? Yeah. Well, I also had to wait. My brother Al came with me. And he was working, so I had to wait for him. I would guess that if you showed up at 115, the line would be three blocks long. It was still as long, and I bumped into a buddy of mine who had just gotten through the whole process, gotten his call back, and said he got there at 1030. He'd already gotten a call back? Or he got his...
appointment for his callback like after they went through the whole process I'm assuming it's kind of like American Idol like you go through the whole process and then they say okay nice meeting you go home or we'll see you later you go through a process and pretty much what they're doing right now is weeding out the people they don't want the people they do want they say come to LA next weekend at this time and you're going to meet with I'm assuming it's the producers of the show Steven Spielberg yes So we get there, and the line is incredibly long, and I have to go up to, I don't know how to say it, Marietta? Marietta? Marietta, yeah. Marietta. Right? What's going on today? To Mascula. I get to go up there for my fiance's aunt's birthday party. Now, we're supposed to leave at 4. It's 1 o'clock. It's her aunt. We're supposed to leave at 4, so I'm figuring I get about two and a half hours to get through this process. It probably ain't going to happen. Question, Rob. Yeah. Don't you remember American Idol auditions? I mean, I know that's a different show. It's much bigger and everything. But don't you remember that, you know, people get there at like, you know, six o'clock in the morning for this? To be honest with you, I figured a wipeout. There would be a few people there, but it wasn't going to be outrageous. And that was really my thought process going into it. OK. I was completely wrong. You were wrong. Now, in the line, you know, they have these people that kind of coach you that are working for the.
Cast and crew or whatever. And they're saying, you know, make sure you're giving 150% energy and let's hear your scream right now. Oh, gosh. Are you ready to get... So the... Oh, I'd hate that. The line is just everyone's hooting and hollering and screaming. Oh, I want to go home. Yeah, the opposite of a comfortable environment for me. I mean, just hearing about it, I want to go home. I'm getting anxious. I want to take a nap just based on what I just heard. Covers over the head. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's that guy that's running up and down the line, high-fiving everyone and then coming back. And in my mind, I'm going. Can you imagine if I had to do that for a day? Oh, no. My job for a day. Oh. He's so awesome. Mike, no. You would have curled up in a ball and probably cried. Because that's how I felt at this point. So let me just ask you, because we've got to move along. Okay. Were you ever even seen? Oh, yeah. You were? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. When I got, you know, they bring you in in groups of eight, and they kind of fire off a couple quick questions, because they're making a decision right there. Yeah. And there was this guy who dressed like Joe Dirt, that in line he was wild and rambunctious when we got in there.
He shut down. He, like, burnt up all his energy. He was that guy. I found a chair in the corner of the room. So when the lady called me, I jumped off it with a high-flying kick right to her face. Yeah. And just screaming. And I was going, how you doing? Oh, wow. And I mean, I was, I literally got two inches away from her. I got two inches away from her face. And I started telling her all these crazy things about me. You're so annoying. animated as I could be. I was quiet as a mouse in line. Don't you realize that there is a very fine line between dangerous and like, you know, excited. That's right, Mike. Liability ratings. Yes. Liability ratings. What do we got here? Like, you know, mentally incompetent. That's what I was going for. Bingo. Success. If the show was called Mentally Incompetent, you're in. So me and my brother are going to LA this weekend. Are you kidding me? Nice. Al made it too? Yeah, Al. You made it. Al was in. Dude, I thought this story was going to end with them saying, you know, he's a little too much. No way. Don't take crazies. No way. You know that him and his brother are chew-ins. Let me tell you. You know they are. It was you and Big Al Kahuna. And he was, I was the last one in my group, so he was the first one in the next group. And I was disappointed. I wanted to go together. We had this whole routine we were going to do, you know. You are by definition. Can you imagine?
Or a clown. Oh, yeah. Clown school. But in the line, I was so quiet. I wouldn't talk to no one. I just kept to myself. I wanted, I was mentally preparing and I wanted to save all my energy for that karate kick. Okay. You are a clown. Oh, yeah. How do you click, how do you kick with big red floppy shoes? How do you do a karate kick with that big nose, that big flower on your lapel? So this Saturday, dude, at 2.20, we got to go up to Burbank or something. Don't be late. Oh, no. We're going up early in the morning. We're just going to hang out. If you get on television, it's going to be two out of the seven people on the Mikey show have been on network television. Ashley was on American Idol. And if you get on this thing. The one thing is, though, is they gave us this big, long 10 page sheet to fill out. And I already filled it out. And no, no, no. It's kind of like an interview process on. Oh, they ask about felonies and misdemeanors. But it's like an interview. interview process on paper. And right in the beginning, big bold letters that says, you know, if you get on the show and you get picked, you've got to go to L.A. for a week in film. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you can. Oh, okay. Oh, yeah, you're not important around here. You can drive up after the show every day. It'll be great. I think you have to stay up there. It'll be great publicity. They'll put you up. Yeah. Okay, question. Yeah. Because I've never seen the show Wipeout. Me neither. I've never seen it. Oh, wow.
I've never seen it, but from what I understand, Wipeout is on ABC, and what they do is they took this idea from a Japanese game show, and old people love it. My mother and father love it. They're in their 70s. The ratings are great. Yeah. It's really funny. The idea of it is that they have people run through obstacle courses. What do you wear while you do it? That's the thing. I think you're allowed to wear anything. I mean... You have to have a helmet and a life vest, but you can pick your own clothing. I saw guys on it last week that had tuxedo t-shirts on. Take care of your head by wearing a helmet. Wait, Zeth has YouTubed a clip of Wipeout and is showing it to me right now. What are they wearing? Are they wearing street clothes? Well, you obviously have to wear some protective stuff. So most of them have on what looks like a life preserver. And they have on helmets, and they're just going through these gauntlets of crazy obstacle courses. And I think that... Now, what do you win? What do you potentially stand to win? Talk about it, Rob. $50,000, dude. $50,000? Yeah. All right, now, what we're basically talking is $25,000, because Uncle Sam takes half. Yep. Do you want to hear the intro? Yes. All right, here we go.
ordinary men and women are about to go head-to-head with the most extraordinary obstacle course ever assembled. Brave enough, must be prepared to endure breathtaking spills, spectacular tumbles, and catastrophic falls. Only the swiftest and fastest four will survive its wrap and earn a shot at $50,000. But to claim the prize and achieve ultimate glory, they'll have to overcome the biggest obstacle of their lives, the Wipeout Zone. Can you imagine Boston Rob doing that? I would kill it, dude. Rob, be honest with me. Come on. I want to know truthfully. Would you do well? Absolutely. Ashley, would he do well? Or is he skilled in that kind of way? Could he do this? Rob is looking at me so offended right now. He's so offended that I would even ask this question. I think there's some obstacles that he would kill. Like knock it out of the park. But there's maybe a couple that.
Look a little iffy, like with his height. Maybe not helping out too much. You know what I'm saying? Wait a minute, Rob. I mean, do you need to be tall to be able to? Not at all. Not at all. Well, Mike, and you see the way this clown reacts when there's a quarter left on the floor. I mean, the potential to win 50 grand. So he could do it. I believe in him. I'll tell you right now, if he's able to do it, just answer one question. Does he have tremendous stamina? Yeah. He does, actually. If he does, he'll do great. He does because he works out like a person that's insane. Like a girl right before prom. Right, right, right. He works out like that. He's the size of a girl before prom. Thank you, Sean. He's not that heavy, but definitely, yeah. If he does have stamina, he'll do great. I believe in him. There's a couple of things, though, that at the final, You know, where it's this huge obstacle course. You start out. How high would you say that thing is, Sean? Like 100 feet? It's got to be like a three-story building, I would say. It's like this slide where you pick like a raft, a blow-up bed. It's always the same, the obstacle course? I believe so. Yes, the final one is always the same, yes. Yeah, so you pick what you want to slide down this on, and it's just like a big water slide, but it shoots you off at the end, and you go flying into like...
a big pool and that I would have to have someone like kick me to go down because I'm very scared of heights. Really? But other than that, dude, I've mentally kind of, you know, prepared myself and figured out what other people do wrong and how would I go about this? Oh, there's, he's showing it to me on television. It's a really long drop, dude. It's like, it looks like it's three or four stories. You'll be great. You'll be great. Oh man. What if you, for that money? Personally, I would be terrified if I was a kid. Yeah, you know, because you never know what could go wrong. Come on. So scared. You're going to do great. Third person. Yeah, could potentially be a news story in and of itself. But other than that, Rob, good luck, you know. Yeah, you're going to do great. Might be on a game show. Ashley on Idol, Eddie on Renegade. So don't you say it. That's right. Eddie was on Renegade. I mean, that's what he forgets. My brother back in 1979 on Real People. Sky's mom. Marilu Henner Show. I think it was called Henner. A bird in the henner is like two and a half. Dumb Chick Challenge is next. This is the Mikey Show. Get downloads and podcasts at rock1053.com.

Well, fines for speeding and highway work zones are now up to $1,000 or more, plus points on your driving record. So will you still do it? Slow for the Cone Zone. Rock 105.3 Drive. You buy Sleep Train Mattress Centers. The ride's winding down. Things are breaking up, especially out of the South Bay. Much a little better looking speeds on both the 5 and the 805 northbound now. In fact, the 805 looking good just briefly at Governor Drive in the Golden Triangle. So enjoy that one. The 5 freeway, that's a fine-looking ride all the way into downtown, that of National City. Got a problem, though, on the westbound 8. There's an accident on the ramp to north 805 blocking the right lane, which is kind of really jamming up your ride right around that 805 freeway, so watch for the brake lights there. West 94, just a minor delay left over here into downtown from 32nd Street on in. The West 52, full speed at a Santee now up over the Mission Trail Summit. Things are still... Staying pretty rough, though, in the South 15, a struggle from the 78th out of Escondido. And that slow ride stays with you over Lake Hodges through Rancho Bernardo all the way down to the 56th. It was an earlier accident blocking middle lanes just before that 56th connector, which really caught up the commute and made that pretty tough still. The westbound 56th and left over slowing here from Rancho Santa Fe Farms to the 5th. And the 5th itself southbound, still a bit tight out of Lucadia, down past an accident clearing your Birmingham Drive. You're freed up just around Loma Santa Fe Drive and Solana Beach.

Thanks for picking The Mikey Show featuring Mikey. In fact, I have an area of my nose that is most enjoyable to pick. It's the top of my nose. Eddie. I use a specific brand of Kleenex, and if it's a different kind of Kleenex, I really get obsessed. Sky. I don't think it's wrong to share a kiss with somebody who sweeps you off your feet. Sean. I cannot go to sleep unless I have a fan blowing on me. Boston Rob. I'm a grown-ass man. Show me some respect. And Ashley. I'm kind of a tease. On the Rock 105.3. Had this song in my head all day yesterday. Sweet the streets I used to. It is 8.38. The federal government announced yesterday that they'll be taking over control of troubled mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Before we went to break, we were talking about Boston Rob. Going and auditioning for the show Wipeout. I hope you make it. I hope so. It'd be really neat, man. It'd be really cool to watch you on TV. Oh, that would be so awesome because my fiance really wants me to make it on the show, but she wants me to make it because she wants to see me fall down, get hurt. So do we. Fall down and get hurt? In a fun way, Mike. When we were watching it last week.
There's this one obstacle where they have to run over these big, like, balloon things. And everyone, like, no one makes it. No one makes it. And she was almost in tears watching these people going, oh, could you imagine if that was you right there? Oh, I can't wait to see you do this. I'm like, you really want me to get injured? Not even about the money. We will be doing the dumb chick challenge within moments. Yes. Let's see. Hey, Cubby. I don't know who that is. It's a text message from P1. What's hampooning? He says, hey, Cubby. It was a crazy weekend in sports, and I really want to hear what Ashley thought about Liddell versus Evans, because Ash is a big UFC fan. Dude. Ashley. Okay. First of all, what happened? This is nuts, Mike. Chuck Liddell fought Rashad Evans.
It was the co-main fight of the evening. Rich Franklin also fought Matt Hamill, which was also a really great fight. But in this fight, Chuck Liddell and Rashad Evans, they're going, they're going, they're going. Out of nowhere, Rashad gets Chuck right in the chin, knocks him out cold. No. I'm not kidding, Mike. Cold. Chuck Liddell goes down, and he's just limp. Face first. Sean, you got the crowd reaction? It was nuts. That click hit him right on the jaw. Overhand right with everything behind it. Right on the jaw. Which is ironically Chuck's signature move and that's what he got and knocked him out. Wow. What's going on? Is it over for the Iceman? Is it too late? Did the time... Like you looked at your watch and, oh, I got too old. What happened? Is that the deal? I don't know. That's hard for me to say that because I look at. Lucky shot. Could have happened to anybody. See, I don't know, Mike, because I look at Dan Henderson, who also fought in that same UFC fight card. Dan Henderson won. He looked great. He looked really strong. And he had been coming up from two losses. If you look at Randy Couture, who's coming back in and he's going to fight. And, you know, he's got, like, he can do pretty well, too.
These older guys, they can fight, you know? And in my personal opinion, I know Chuck Liddell likes to party, man. I mean, I know that he, I know he's a party guy. So that's the only thing I could possibly think of is that, is that. But Joe Rogan was saying right before the fight that Chuck has been preparing and he is so ready for this fight more than ever. Well, Chuck Liddell, remember he was on the air with us. He said, I do that every fight. He says, I go out, I party every, you know, even when I was. But, I mean, there's kind of the thought of, hey, man, when you're getting older, maybe you shouldn't anymore. And then you could still fight at the level that you fought at when you were young. But you just cut this out, you know, the night before and you can, you know what I mean? But as you get older, how do you can, first of all, you get older and you work really hard and you don't go out and drink and party, it's hard. But if you're getting older and you're going out and drinking partying, it's almost like you're going to, I mean, you might take one on the chin if you do that. So who knows? How about this? How about the Dumb Chick Challenge? Let's do the Dumb Chick Challenge. Ashley, predominantly, what does Ashley think about the UFC stuff? Text messages coming in today. So if you're one of the Dumb Chicks, not...
in terms of the UFC, because people wanted to know, what do you think? What do you think? Eddie's not here today, and our listeners know it, so they're going to the other go-to, which is Ashley. Ashley loves the UFC. I don't know anything about it. I don't know what's going on. I felt like such a, you know, girly man. I was getting so many text messages from friends of mine over the weekend going, are you watching this? I thought I was watching it, but it turns out it was actually boxing on HBO. It was a great fight card. I didn't realize I thought it was UFC. It was a great, great, great fight card, Mike. It was solid from start to finish. It was so good. Awesome. I love it. Well, that is one of her good topics, or good subject matter. She's pretty good at that. Very knowledgeable. Straight A's when it comes to UFC. But... When it comes to history and, say, geography. I hate it. She doesn't like it as much, and neither does Sky, and neither does Boston Rob. So together they are the dumb chicks, and we do this thing called the Dumb Chick Challenge. And what you do is you call us up and you pick which one of them you believe will win. Which one of them will be the smartest today? Which one of them will answer?
More questions. Now, it's easy. All they have to do is get to five points and they pick one, two or three point questions to get there. Could be as easy as two questions. A three and a two will do it. Really? Sky, she's got a little system. I do. I got a system. She goes two point, two point, one point. All right. She's going to change it up today, Mike. Of course she is because she recognizes that that's been done too long and it's time to change things up. So she's going to go three, two, one. Well, that would be six points. Six points. She's not very bright. P1 Penguin is on the line. Oh, wow. Listen to that little tiny voice. Hi, Penguin. I'm sorry. Do I sound small today? Penguin, who would you like to represent you? Well, I would like my girl, Skye. Oh, you got it. You know, Sky brought your name up for consideration for the P1 Hall of Fame. I felt so bad not being able to go, guys, but I'm poor. I have to work. Yeah, I argued against you. A little too much honesty. A little too much honesty there. A little too much honesty. But I love you, Penguin. I love you. I do love you. Do you remember those sugar cookies? She's fantastic. I love her. I love me some Penguin. Please hang on the line.
P1 J Mac. What's going on, Mikey? Who do you want? Looks like I got the original dumb chick. Ashley. Ashley. You want Ashley. Hang on. Oh, Rob picked last. Wow. P1 Derek. Derek, how are you? Pretty good, yourself? I'm fantastic. You're going to have Boston Rob. Oh, right. Okay. Oh, he seems really excited, Rob. If memory serves correct, I believe it is Boston Rob who is going to begin the Dumb Chick Challenge. How are you going to do this, Rob? Are you going to go one, two, or three? I've got to go big right out of the... Don't do well. I've got a great track record. Don't do well. Alright, here we go. Rob, it is a history question. Oh, there you go. Nice. Rob, what was the name of... Christopher Columbus's flagship, the ship on which Columbus traveled in his, excuse me, 1492 voyage. Don't look at me. 1842 voyage? Why did you look over at Skye when I said that? Well, because when it comes to dates and years and stuff like that. Hey. Yes, one time Skye thought that pilgrims landed in 1842. 1842? 1842. Yeah.
About 150 years ago. That's right. The pilgrims. She thought the pilgrims were. Got to America. Yes. About 150. And at that point. All of where we are was just a vast wasteland waiting to be discovered. Americans work fast. That's right. Although, at the same time, we were building the Intercontinental Railroad. That's right. We don't mess around, Sean. We're multitasking. It all makes sense. That's right. Please. In 1842, there was no Phoenix. There was no Houston. Can we focus on the question and answer? It was the Pony Express. That's right. Hey, whatever, you nerd. That's the first thing the pilgrims invented. Yeah, they had to get that out of the way. I've got to get mail to California. That's right. It doesn't exist, but get that Wells Fargo moving. I've got to get there, forthwith. I just want you to picture a little pilgrim in a Wells Fargo deal, you know, whipping the horses. Uh-oh. Uh-oh. That wasn't a good look from Sky. That was not a good look. Your question once again, Boston Rob. I forgot.
What was the name of Christopher Columbus's flagship, the ship on which Columbus traveled in his 1492 voyage to the New World? Okay. I know there's the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. Oh, wow, that was a great enunciation. Santa Maria. Santa Maria. So I'm going to have to go with... The Santa Maria. You're correct. Three points, Santa Maria. Rob is on the board. Stupid Rob. Three-pointer. That is lame. That is awesome. Sky's up next. Sky's going to change things up a little bit today. What are you going to do, Sky? Wow. I would like a two, please. Oh, Sky. What's wrong with you? What's wrong with you? What? Sky. Oh, no. Good old Sheriff Pat Garrett. Who? He became famous for killing wood outlaw. Sky is looking at me right now like I just asked a question in Greek. Okay. What's that one?
Kiefer Sutherland and Lou Diamond Phillips. I always go back to my movies. Always is what movie have I seen? Yeah. Kiefer Sutherland. It wasn't The Exorcist. Was it, let's see. Lou Diamond Phillips. It must have been. Shawshank. Was it Shawshank? It could have been. It could have been. I think that, um. Was it Andy Dufresne? Oh. What? Yes, Vic Tabak is the answer, Mike. Paid Mel on Alice. I don't know. No, it was the actor that played Tommy. Shush. I am going to guess Billy the Kid. You are correct, Scott. Wow. Nice. Where did you pull that? That was awesome. I was thinking of, was it...
Tombstone or Young Guns? Probably Young Guns. Young Guns. I was thinking of my IM and suddenly it popped up. Ashley, what are you going to do? It's three to two. No. This is tough because they're both really smart. And your first base coach isn't it? Eddie usually gives you some sort of a signal as to what to do. Do you want Seth to help you? Absolutely not. I mean, I'm between a rock and a hard place. He's always crying. Sad clown. Yes, that's right. Catch on fire, Sean. We'll shoot straight and narrow and go for a two. Okay, let's shoot straight and narrow. The sad thing is I understood what she meant. I know, that's a really... Of course he did, yeah. Ashley, your two-point question is, Gatorade is named after what college football team's mascot? Great question. Which college football team? Okay, my gut says Florida State, because they're the Gators, or the University of Florida. It's definitely in Florida. She's looking at the ceiling.
Yeah. She's letting that big leather armband do the talking for her. That thing is pretty big. It's gigantic. It's like her whole forearm. It's a wristlet. Gosh, it looks like a WWE's wristwatch. I'm going to go with my gut and say Florida State. That is incorrect. Florida Gators. University of Florida. Russell Robertson is beating his radio right now. Killing it. Even though he didn't go there. I know. He didn't even go there. And everything is Florida, Florida, Florida. I don't understand that. You guys need to stop making sense. Come on. Dale County Community College. All right. Boston Rock. Yeah. Look at Skye. Skye's getting all up in his B-Rub. Who's keeping the score today? I'm annoyed by you. Who's keeping the score? Skye? Oh, what does that say? B-Rub. It says B-Rub's a jerk. No, it doesn't. Are you going to go for it all and take a two? Are you going to play it easy? Heck yeah, dude. No, I'm going to go for it all right here. Give me a two. Let's do it. Let's do it. Yeah. Go for a three. Someone go for the knees. Your two-point question. Mike. Your two-point question. Suspend her for one day.
Your two-point question is, name the terraced land that rice fields are planted on. Name the terraced land that rice fields are planted on. I don't think I understand the question. scratching his head right now. The terrorist land? Not terrorist. Terrorist land? I believe it's called Al-Qaeda, Mike. Afghanistan? Rob, name the terrorist land that rice fields are planted on. Mike. I know rice is planted in the... This guy makes fun of me. The Middle East? Well, rice is planted in the water, I think. Osama bin Uncle Ben's. Is it a bog or a swamp? That is incorrect, Rob.
I don't get the question. You got it. Was I right? Yeah, you were right. What's that called? Yeah. Rice patties. Is that like peppermint patties? I mean, he acts like he's never heard that before. Never. It's like that word to him was like brand new. He never heard that in his life. Rice patties. I learned something today. Wow. My goodness. All right, Skye. What are you going to do here? You have to go for a three here. Skye, you got to wrap it up. Why is everyone yelling at me? Wrap it up. Come on, O. My name isn't O. Come on, O. Do it. Skye, you can do it. Do it. Please do it so we can move on. All right, I will try for my friend Ashley to get a three-pointer. That a girl, O. My name isn't O. See that? Moving out, Mike. I can already see from Mike's face this was a bad move on my head. This was a bad move on my head. Let me explain. To explain. To explain. I can already tell. To explain. The answer to this question has been discussed on this show, made as a reference on this show. Which makes my chances even less. All right, O, here is your question.
What was the name of the woman that died after the car accident with Edward Kennedy at Chappaquiddick? It's in there. It's in there. She's got it. She's got a fist to her mouth. She's turning around now. She's making that undeniable body language that says it's in there. I must just find it. I'll move that gold bullion aside. Is it under this box of silver? Let's see. She's taking her headphones off, unaware that she's in the same room. Covering my ears. She's covering her ears, I see. I'm just going to have to speak louder, then. Is it under this frankincense and myrrh? I don't think she's got it. Oh, no, she's shaking her head. Hope Diamond. Oh, shucks. I will say Susan Chapman. No! It's Tracy Chapman. Sky. Give me either just the first or the last. Mary Jo. Oh, wow. No, that wasn't her? That was a different girl? Different. It was Mary Jo Kopechny.
Please. Never heard it in their life. Sky, you heard that. Sky. I think that's one of my cousins in New York. Come on. Skee-ball. Uh-oh. Boston Rock. That's not my name. What? I'm a oh. I'm a oh. Whatever. Rob. Or no, Ashley's out. I'll go again. I'll go again. What's his score, Sky? B-Rob three. I have two. Ash does not have a point yet. First person of five wins. Ash, can you hear me? You can take one, two, or three point questions. Ashley, what shall you do? You know, you do have luck with three pointers. She does. She does great with those. Okay, then give me a three. You got it. Ashley, once the world's largest piano maker, what Asian company entered the world of motorcycle manufacturing in 1955? That was really fast. Or Samsung. What's your final answer? She just pointed at me as if to say, you tell me, Mike. A or B, Mike. I need your final answer, Ash. So who makes pianos and then eventually made? Motorcycles. Motorcycles? I will go with my first answer.
Kawasaki? Like the Kawasaki pianos that you see all over the place. Mike! No, you're right, Mike. I believe it was Andrew Lloyd Webber that wrote on a Kawasaki piano. You're right, Mike. That's ridiculous. Beethoven played a Kawasaki. He composed everything on a Kawasaki, Mike. That is incorrect, Ashley. I'm sorry. It was the night. No. Swanson. Swanson's frozen dinner. I was way off. Ashley, it was Yamaha. Yamaha. Yamaha. Austin Robb. I was way off. What are you going to do here, buddy? You can wrap this up. Please, Rob. With a two-pointer. Yeah, I'm going to try to wrap it up. No more rice paddy questions. You got it. Robb, what first lady launched the Just Say No drug awareness campaign? Please.
Please. Hold on. First and last name. Please. First and last name. Easy. Don't rush him. Don't rush him. First and last. Because you're making me second guess myself. Sky, that just messed him up. Yeah, it did. Sky is smiling right now. I believe it's Nancy Reagan. And that's what I'm going to go with. Rob, you pulled it out. P1 Derek. Yep. Boston Rob just won it for you, baby. Wow. Don't let me ever call a guy baby ever again. What's the prize? $100 gift certificate to Leo Hamill Fine Jewelers. I love this show. I listen to you guys every single day. Here's an easy one. To improve mileage, come by Chevron and fill up with air. That's right, air. When was the last time you checked the air pressure in your tires? Can't remember? Then it's definitely been too long. Did you know even tires in good shape can lose about one pound of pressure a month? And underinflated tires make your engine work harder, lowering your mileage. But don't overinflate them.
You can usually find the recommended tire pressure on a sticker located on the driver's side door jamb. And speaking of air, air conditioning is not so hot for your car's mileage either. Whenever you turn it on, it puts an added strain on your engine. Now, at highway speeds, it's probably better to use the AC rather than roll down the windows because of the aerodynamics. But around town, enjoy the fresh air. And that's another great way to get the most out of your Chevron with Tecron. Learn more mileage tips by visiting chevronwithtecron.com. Now, what is non-destructive testing in a real quick way? What is that? You're just examining welds and material to codes and specifications, state requirements.
How long did it take you to do that? To go through the college was a year-long college. Did you enjoy the experience? Oh, yeah. It was an outstanding experience. A lot of different opportunities and paths you can take from that school. And do you have a good job today? An outstanding job, yeah. That's awesome, man. We're still going to find a couple of rough spots out here. There's an accident clearing in the 805 northbound here coming out of Kearney Mesa. It's just past Nobel Drive, and that's why you're still seeing a tight ride approaching Claremont Mason Boulevard up to Nobel where this accident sits. South in the 15, that got pretty messed up here this morning with a couple of accidents along the stretch. It's still very heavy from the 78 down to Via Rancho Parkway over Lake Hodges and the Rancho Bernardo.
Backs up again from Carmel Mountain Road to down in towards Poway. And the westbound 56 is still seeing some brake lights here as well from Carmel Country Road heading to the 5. Other than that, though, East County South Bay rides are moving right along for good-looking speeds there. I'm Rick Lawrence on Rock 105.3. From the Cricket Wireless Studios. San Diego's Rock. Britney Spears was the big winner at the MTV VMAs last night, taking home three awards and not embarrassing herself. Eddie is out six, so Boston Rob is going to fill in and do a little sports. Third person. He's doing third person again. The Chargers lose in the final seconds to the Panthers 26-24. You don't have to. Yeah. Smile. Really? Sometimes a smile doesn't help. That wasn't a smile. That was me cringing. I see. My face cringing. Gotcha. It doesn't look like it did. Look, look. Okay. Might look like a smile, but it's my face cringing. This is all I can stomach of this. 15 seconds. Britney Spears opening the show for the VMAs. It's cut two.
Thank you so much. Thank you for all the love. I'm here tonight to celebrate a very important birthday. The 25th anniversary of the VMAs. This is the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards and it starts right now. I think that's all I can do. It's just my age. I am not reading this at all. Right. It's the anniversary. They said that Britney was going to open the show, but she wasn't going to perform. So people are like, what is she going to do? And I guess it opened with a skit with her and Jonah Hill. I don't know. I didn't see it. You know, the guy from Superbad. They did some sort of skit together. And then after the skit, she came out and said, I don't know. Well said. There was a lot of stories. There are some stories about the VMAs. One was that the host was a British guy. I've never heard of him before in my life. His name was Andy, or no, Russell Brand. Yeah. Never heard of him. Ash, is he big in your young world? Never heard of him either. Yeah, I guess he's got some show on MTV or getting some show, comedy sketch show or something. I don't know. He's a British comedian. He made a joke that offended people at the VMAs and I guess people viewing and whatever. Cut six. The whole situation in fact.
makes the idea of pledging to God that you'll remain a virgin till marriage seem like quite a good idea. So well done, the Jonas Brothers. God bless those boys. In case you were unaware, each of the Jonas Brothers does wear a tiny ring as a mark of their commitment to God. I'd take it a little bit more seriously if they wore it on their genitals. Ungrateful, because they could literally have sex with any woman that they want. They're just not going to do it. That is like Superman just deciding not to fly and to go everywhere on a bus. So maybe it just doesn't translate the British stuff to the, you know. Well, you know, some people think the idea of a promise ring is a good thing. You know, like I know Jordan Sparks was offended last night. Do you want to hear what she said? I'd love to. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. We got it. Cut 19.
All right, I just have one thing to say about promise rings. It's not bad to wear a promise ring because not everybody, guy or girl, wants to be a slut. All right, so anyway. Good for you. That was a bit of an awkward night last night at the VMAs. Now, my take is I didn't necessarily hear him making the joke that, like, promise rings are gay or anything or that they're, like, you know, that they're... What I heard was him making an outrageous comment about where the promise ring should go. And about how they're wasting their powers as heartthrobs by not hitting every chick out there. Yeah, that too. But listen, I'm too old, man. I just want to watch football. Honestly. So the big headline today.
Like the gigantic headline today is this thing about Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Yeah. Who are the two lead singers of a folk group that play tonight. Tonight only at the Senior Center. Just tonight, though. In the Star Maker room. In the Star Maker room, yeah. One plays the banjo and the other one plays the tin cans. It's really neat the way they do it. The way they do it is really neat. Because it's all on their feet. That's right. It's really good. They both sit on a wooden box that says artichokes. Five cents. I'm sure they do. Five cents. That's what the... They're folksy. Well, that's how much they were when they bought the box. Oh, okay. Well, that's good. Now, what is Fannie Mae, Skye, and Bernie Mac? No, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, they're huge in the mortgage industry. They're mortgage giants. They're companies. Yeah, they hold $5 trillion worth of home loans. Okay. That's a lot.
I got my neighbor on the line. He works in mortgages. He understands this stuff. Yeah, explain. I do not understand. Mark, can you help us out? Yeah. I do not. Dude, let me tell you. I don't get this stuff, but I've talked to you, and I know that you understand it a little bit. So is it good news that the government took over Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae? So can I answer that question with a question? Sure. Is it ever good news when the government takes over something? I don't even know. Honestly, I don't even think. That's the thing. That's the thing that I'm not certain of myself right now. I know whenever Uncle Sam steps in to do something, they add bureaucracy to what's already a huge pile of stuff. Well, and obviously by them stepping in is because something is failing. Something has not worked. Absolutely. Yeah, and honestly, this is, in my opinion, the beginning of the collapse of the supersized corporations.
Wow. I think what we're seeing right now is the beginning of a major change in the country. And that's just my personal opinion, obviously. I think as a society, I think we're tired of this personally. We've seen too many large corporations tell us that they're doing well. And the next day, turn the page and say, sorry, we're going belly up and pay $43 million to the CEO to walk away because they screwed up. Okay, so my question is, and tell me if you know, does this mean that the economy will like... Rebound? Yeah. You know, the thing about it is, what I understand right now, what the government is doing, this is my understanding, because we haven't had a breakdown at the office yet about what's truly going on. But from what I understand, FH, FAA, federal housing... Finance administration stepped in, is taking over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to help them restructure it. So it's kind of like they're going through kind of like a bankruptcy, if you will. They're going to restructure it. And once it's back on its feet, then they're going to release it again. That's my understanding. I don't know if that's truly the way it's going to break down because, you know, when you start ruffling the sheets.
You start finding things under the covers that you never expected to see. See, what I'm wondering is if this will mean that buying a house is going to get easier or harder. Yeah, I've read this morning that they're saying that this could bring interest rates down, like on a 30-year fix, down like half a point. Yeah, and that would be huge. What that's going to do, and that's true, that will help spur the purchase market. But we are anticipating another year of... heavy foreclosures. The only way that you see the real estate market turn around and increase in value is you have less inventory on the market and shorter days on the market. In other words, if you have a home today, if you list your home today, Mike, you put a home today at market value, it would sit in the market anywhere from 90 to 120 days, maybe even longer. Okay? Is that right? Can you imagine? Where it used to be you put it on the market and it'd sell the next day. Multiple offers in one day. Yeah. And now you're looking at like 120 days. It's crazy. Average. Yeah. So, I mean, but part to this is it is going to help people buying, but it's not going to help people that are currently existing in their home struggling. But what it could do, and Sky was, we were talking about this this morning, is what it could do.
is over just a little bit of time, people's houses will be worth more. Over some time. Well, yeah, absolutely. The real estate market travels in cycles, anywhere from 7 to 10-year cycles, ups and downs. And if you look at when we peaked in June of 2005, that's when the market very peaked and then started to come back down. 10 years prior to that was when, in 94 through 97, was when we were having the last, market crash. Now, what's going to happen is we're going to probably see foreclosures for the next 12 months. There's going to be foreclosures that extend that. There's always foreclosures for whatever reason. For the next 12 months, we're going to see heavy foreclosures, and then we're going to see the market flatten out for years. And then we'll see the typical market appreciation gradual climb. Now, if you think about where we were in 1995 compared to where we peaked in 2005,
I purchased a home in Oceanside in 1997 for $2.03. I sold it in June of 2005 for $7.13. Holy crap. Okay? If you look at where we're at right now, that home in Oceanside would probably sell for $5.60. So if I purchased it in 1995 for $2.03, got it to peak of $7.11, dropped down to $5.60 today, yeah, I lost maybe $170,000 in equity. Right. over a two-year period but over the long haul right i gained over 300 000 in equity wow yeah so people who've been in this real estate market in san diego for the long term yeah it kind of sucks on paper but you're still ahead of the game but people who have purchased within the last couple years we're hurting you know we're seeing our mortgages worth more than our homes are worth right now and that's absolutely correct that's freaky Yeah, that is kind of scary, and that's when emotion takes hold of a lot of people because they're saying, why should I pay on something that's worth less than what I owe? Right. Well, unfortunately, you know, a lot of times we look at so right in front of us right now instead of looking at the bigger picture. I don't get it. Why would anybody feel that way if you're happy living in your house?
If you're happy living in your house. I think some people who have been in this market short term, they almost feel like if you buy a piece of property, then it's a guarantee you're going to make money. They don't realize that real estate is a gamble. Like there's no guarantees. You don't deserve money just because you bought property. Listen, you guys know I am very childlike when it comes to these matters. There's no doubt about it. But I honestly, I bought the house that we live in. Because I really thought it was pretty. And I love it. And we needed a nest to make kids. That's about it. Now, I was thinking to myself, yeah, and maybe later when we sell it, it'll be worth some dough. But I never went into, I mean, unless you're like in the business of buying houses and flipping them and stuff like that, whatever. But other than that, I mean, most of us, don't we buy a house because we like it? We like the house? We want to live there? I mean, eventually we're going to sell it, but I thought most people think of it that way, like you're not going to sell it for a while anyway. No, actually, I think more people, I do understand what you're saying, Mike, and I agree with you. The reason we bought here was more because we love the house, we love the design, but more importantly, the school system was extremely important to me and my wife. That's why people do it, the schools. I like this room. I could put a video game thing in here or something, you know?
Right, but more people over between 2004 and 2006 were either moving up because they could based on false market appreciation, if you will, or they were buying and flipping to pad their pocketbook. Unfortunately, what happens is we never think the bad's going to happen, and we don't prepare ourselves for the bad. We put 20% down and we take 15% right back out of the house in the form of a line of credit and we go and buy all the toys that we want. And that's where people forget. It's the emotion of instantly having free cash that you didn't have two years prior. And it's also the emotion of owing more than it's worth today. And if people look in the long haul... Sure, your home is upside down today, but if you can afford the payment, my suggestion is stay there because the effect that it's going to have on your credit is going to be huge, first of all, if you walk away. Hey, dude, it's totally up to you. I don't mean to put you on the spot, but do you want to give any of your info if people want to get a house from you? Sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Go ahead, man.
Yeah, my name is Mark Pereira, and right now I'm leaving one company and entering into another only because of personal beliefs with this new company. I'll give the name in MetLife Home Loans. MetLife Insurance Company has a bank, and they're getting into direct lending. And I've got a very good feeling about this. One of the biggest issues that people are having is anybody trying to get a loan today that cannot document their income. And I can tell you more than 55 percent of Southern California people have entrepreneurial type income. And when you have that kind of income, very few of us actually claim every penny that we make. So it's hard to document it. And I've got a hunch that this company that I'm joining is going to fill that need. Not right away. Granted, not right away, but down the road shortly. OK, well, do you want to give out any way that people get a hold of you? Yeah, I'll give you two things, my cell phone and my email address. All right. My cell phone is 760. I tell you what, hey, Mark, why don't we do it this way? Why don't we do it this way? Yeah. Why don't we put it on, because I don't want to have your phone, I mean, if I give it out right now, your phone's going to blow up. Right. All right, I'm going to get all those people that have disagreed with me calling and giving me the phone. Right, right, right, right, right. So why don't we do this? I'll put it on the website, and if people want to, or you know what's better?
P1 site. Right? What are we doing on P1 site? Okay. Because I don't want to tick off Clear Channel. Clear Channel. I don't want them getting all sideways on me. So maybe Zed can get the info and we can send it off to P1 site. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, because Mark does, he does mortgages and stuff like that. Right, Mark? Is that your deal? That is my deal. And I'm also stepping into investing in real estate as well. So I can help people that currently are upside down. I can probably help them. either save their home or save their credit, one or the other. Very cool. Hang on, Mark, all right? And I'm going to have Zeth get information from you. Right on, Mikey. Hang on. Yeah, I don't know what he does. I just know he does, like, complicated mathematical things that has to do with real estate. He can help. It's hard to understand that stuff for me. It really, I struggle understanding. Motions are rising. 570-1053 is our phone number. If you haven't heard, Tom Brady out for the season. Chargers lose in the last two seconds of the game. Eddie's out, so I'll be filling in for him for sports. Monday Night Football tonight. Doubleheaders starting at four. It's going to be the Packers taking on the Vikings and then Denver up against Oakland. Bob, what's worse? Yeah. The best player on your football team being out for the season or the best player on your favorite baseball team being out for the season? What's worse? Good question. Oh, well, if we're talking about what has happened, Tom Brady being out. For the season. That's worse. Because with the Red Sox, we had multiple people going on the DL. We had Mike Lowell, J.D. Drew.
Well, let's say it's equal. Let's say it's equal, where right now you just got Tom Brady out, and let's say you're... I'm just asking you, if you have a healthy Red Sox team and a healthy Patriot team, what would be worse? Losing Tom Brady for the season or losing whoever you consider your best player on the Red Sox for the season? It had to be David Ortiz, but not this year, but... Hypothetical, bro. Hypothetical. Trying to give you a hypothetical question here. Because it's... Too many variables, Mike. I can't... Because you can't. But you know me, dude. Red Sox. That's my first and biggest loss. Relax, bro. The Red Sox are a bigger deal to you than the Patriots. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Opposite with my fiance. Patriots mean more. Mikey, good job on the Tyra interview. Good thing you told her where you came from. I like her less now, though. That's P1 Tina. This text says, Zeth, you are so cool.
Damn straight. Who's getting the text messages for me today? Who's in charge of it? It's Rob. He just wanted to get that out there. Why is one texting the show? Let's see. Mikey, did you guys see the VMAs last night? Some of the worst television I've ever had the misfortune of viewing. It's P1 Ruler Nations. Of course I didn't see it. I watched football until I got tired, which was about six. I went nine-nine. I think I'm starting to take the old lady turn. We all know internally I've been an old lady for a really long time. Skye, how did you even say that with a straight face? You've been an old lady since you were 20. We all know I'm an old lady. But at the same time, I love award shows. I love the OC. I love 90210. So when it comes to pop culture, it's my one last bit of youth.
And tried, attempted to watch the VMAs and was so annoyed that I only watched about 10 minutes and turned it off. Really? Out of annoyance? Just, yes. Eye roll? Like you turned it off with eye roll. Like I said, I wonder what's on HGTV right now is actually what I did. My wife said that she thought that we should break down the lyrics to whatever song Pink performed last night. Really? Okay. Cut 17. I dislike it already. We represent the Lollipop Guild? Like, what's up? She's saying. The song is called So What? Yeah, I'm sending you the lyrics right now. All right, send me the link. Yeah, it was difficult. We've got the not live version in the system. Yeah, yeah, put it up on a button for me. All right, top row, third in, pink. Everything's like, I'm a guy, I'm a guy, I'm a guy, right?
Very masculine. But even guys are like, dude, you're too tough for me. Relax, man. Quit spitting loogies already. That's gross. Quit farting and spitting loogies. All right, you got big guns. Yeah, we get it. We smell BO. We get it. All right, dude. Not allowed. Now, I'm guessing, because I'm looking at the lyrics, I'm going, okay, now does this have to do with the breakup and all that stuff? She divorced a BMX guy, Carrie Hart. Yeah. I wear my sunglasses at night so I can, so I can. BMX is motorcycles, right? Motocross guy. Motocross. They are no longer together. I think the guy would have dough because she's saying... Yeah, I was thinking that too. I'm not going to pay his rent. There he is. There's Corey. Again, different. He's really good, man. He wore Way-Bans in the video. It was really cool at the time. Let's see. I guess I just lost my husband. I don't know where he went. So I'm going to drink my money. I'm not going to pay his rent? No. I think you would need to. You're the one that has all the money.
I got a brand new attitude and I'm going to wear it tonight. I want to get in trouble. I want to start a fight. Why? Yeah. Now you're a girl. Dude, be nice. Ladies don't do that. Ladies don't do that. No, just dudes. Oh, it came unpaused. That means we have to hear that. Oh, no. Got very Avril Lavigne. Yeah. Like she kicked the camera. Yeah. And get off my bed. Yeah. Oh. Nuh-uh. Really? Ever. No, no, no, no, no. She's a pop star, right? Yeah, big difference. There is a difference. There is. Because we're a rock station, but we don't play pink. We don't? I don't think any rock stations play pink. You mean she's not going to be on tour with Metallica? Uh-uh. No, she's not. My bad. She is not. I got my rock moves. She doesn't do that, really. If you have to say you got your rock moves.
In all fairness, maybe this was written by Chad Kroger. We don't know. We don't know. We don't know. Give her a quesadilla. Yeah. Oh. I'm still a rock star. I got my rock moves? Yes. What's a rock move? Rob, can you show us a rock move? I don't know. What does it look like? I wish I did. All right. I got moves, but I don't have rock moves. Is it like... Yeah, like, I picture if you ask... There it is, there it is. Rob's got it. Rob's doing a rock move. If you ask Napoleon Dynamite, he could show you his rock moves. I got, like, really sweet rock moves. Right. I don't know any of this. And I don't need you, and guess what? And you're a tool, so what, it says. Yeah, you don't sound all right and just fine. Is that what she's saying? I'm all right, I'm just fine? Yeah, she doesn't sound that way. It's almost like when... You know when someone's breaking down, they're about to lose it, and they're kind of fighting everything back. But you see the tears welling up, and the lip is starting to shake, and you're going, are you okay? The chin is starting to do like a John Travolta. Yeah, yeah. It's starting to shake a little. But there's not really a cleft. And you're going, are you going to be on? And they're like, I'm fine. I'm fine. I don't even care, and I want to start a fight.
Yeah, it says, I'm still a rock star. I got my rock moves and I don't need you. And guess what? I'm having more fun. And now that we're done, I'm going to show you tonight. I'm all right. I'm just fine. And you're a tool. So what? No. I'm a rock star. I don't want you tonight. That's got to be the most embarrassing song to listen back to. Yeah, unfortunately, I get that. Not yet. It's like a drunk phone call almost. Yeah. Wait, is this, I don't know if this has the, I'm reading down to what the next lyrics are, and I'm wondering, is this bleeped? Well, I think any song that's in our system is supposed to be edited. It should be. All right, let's check it out. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I can relate. What? I don't get that. You got to break down those lyrics. The waiter just took my table and gave it to Jessica Simp. Now, in the actual lyrics, she called, you know, it's dirty, but Simps.
Sim S. Sim S is what she calls her. Jessica Sim. Wow, that is clever. Right, and that's how she put the two together. Meanwhile, Jessica Sim's like, what do I do? I don't even go to clubs. I'm doing a country album. Yeah. And I was never in the rock industry like you. Rock industry. Right. I was never a rock performer. What? It says, I guess I'll go sit with Drum Boy. At least he'll know how to hit. I think she was just trying to fill up space. Seriously. No, no. Come on, you guys. You know that's got some kind of meaning. Who's Drum Boy? I don't know, but you know that it means something. Travis Barker? That's what I'm thinking. That's what I'm thinking. Oh.
I guess I'll go sit with Drum Boy. At least he'll know how to. Man, she's going after everybody. She's lashing out for no reason. Hey, counseling, look into it. Anger is hurt, sadness, and fear, guys. That's true. I've said that a million times. Why did I do Napoleon Dynamite's brother? I'm not sure. I did enjoy it. It was good. I'm not going to bring in your chapstick, Napoleon. Just throw some from the nurse. He was calling. Things are getting pretty serious. He was calling because he forgot his chapstick. And he needed Kip to bring it. Yeah, I know. His lips hurt real bad. Yeah. My lips hurt real bad. But my lips hurt real bad. And Kip was like, dude, and I'm cooking. Right. But my lips hurt real bad. What if this song's on the radio, then somebody's going to die? There's got to be more filler. The whole thing is just... Filler. Yeah, yeah, the whole thing's filler. It doesn't actually mean anything. Don't read into it, and please don't try it. This is not based on true events.
I don't want to fight. I don't either. I want to just. Pink said that we're all going to get in a fight. Dude. And I don't want to. Like the next thing on my list is like a number 10 at Togo's. Yeah. That's the next thing I want. I got big bro on my T-bow. Yes. I can't start a fight right now. I'm glad we're not a fighter. Two hundred football games tonight. Oh, please. Last thing on my mind. Right. And by the way, na-na-na-na-na-na-na. Yeah. Na-na-na-na-na-na-na. You put me in my place. That's the most disturbing line. I really hate that. More disturbing than the podium line in Oh, Michael Phelps. Wait. And that, up to that point. Right, right. Up to the point of hearing that line, that had been the most disturbing line we'd ever heard. Ever. Yeah.
See, the problem is... There are a lot of problems, Mike. Listen, if I don't tell you the truth, then I'll be being a phony. I was thinking the exact same thing you're about to say. Don't be a phony. I bet you are, Skye. Yeah, I know what you're going to say because I was just thinking. I don't. Stupid song's catchy. It's the lyrics that suck. Yes. Sorry. I will be humming that later. Me too. I will not be. I don't think it's as catchy. I don't think you're being honest. I think you will. I'm just being 100%. I don't remember it right now. For sure. MTV is going to play the heck out of it. It's going to be on the hills as one of the background songs. It's going to be all over MTV and that's her target audience. She knows what she's doing. Nickelback's made their bread and butter from the same thing. Money, money, money. Those lyrics of those Nickelback songs are kind of ridiculous. But they're catchy and his voice sounds good. And the truth is that...
she's a pretty decent singer. Like, she hits some pretty good, you know, and the music is kind of catchy, and, you know, it's like bubble gum. But the stuff is, which, oh, it's so goofy. Go ahead. I was just going to say, it's almost as catchy as... We did that. We did that. Yeah, please. Through the entire dinner. On Friday night. In Harris. Nice place. Their fancy steakhouse. Their fancy steakhouse. The show got together and all night long at the dinner table. All we did. Cause I'm Steven. I found out. We just got a text. Says the drummer was a reference to her hooking up with Tommy Lee. Really? Whoa. I mean. I think she is. Why would she do the song? Why would she do the song? We didn't even think of it that way. Come on. Come on you guys.
I think, actually, she's fine. Okay. Okay. Hang on a second. Before you guys jump to the conclusion that she's not fine, have you forgot that she has her rock moves? Yeah. Come on. She must be fine. I did forget that. There were times in my life where I was down, but then I forgot. I got my rock moves. I got my rock moves. Well, duh. Out of the way. Come on. Oh, it's good. Sorry. I'm being honest. I think you do want him tonight. Yeah. And I'm being honest. I think it's catchy tune. It's a catchy tune, but it's ridiculous. It's ridiculous lyrics. Ridiculous. Let's see. 35253 is our text number. Our phone number is 5701053. Oh, we got a break. Oh, man, I got good stuff. I got so much good stuff. I got good stuff. It's all right. I don't want to. Relax. I hate this.
It'll be all right. We can come back, Mike. I mean, we're not leaving for good. Let's do P1 trivia, then, if we come back. Okay. We know we will come back. We are, for sure. Yes, yes. I promise. What can you do to guarantee me that we will come back? I'll show you my rock moves. All right. Oh, nice. Oh, man. We'll be back then. If you want to play P1 trivia and come into the studio on Friday, call us right now at 570-1053. If I was thin and good looking like this dude and sang like that, I'd wear sweaters too. The Mikey Show is on. An AT&T phone survivor story. Lisa went back to school shopping with her mom. Big mistake. Lisa, look at these. Notebooks. With pictures of puppies. Lame. Mom. Kitty kisses. Mom. Luckily, Lisa got to the AT&T phone sale and found deals on phones that take pictures, play music, and run on the network with the best coverage. My green AT&T phone is the coolest thing. KIOZ San Diego. That's right. Welcome back. This email says, Mikey, I've been waiting all morning to hear what happened with Sean at the restaurant this weekend. Isn't that insane? He's ridiculous. He's ridiculous. What? He's a germaphobe. You're a germaphobe. And he just is something else. Yeah, there were moments when I was like, really? It was a simple misunderstanding. That you're a germaphobe? Yeah. What does he mean, Skye? Well, I don't know if you're talking about what I'm talking about. The one that put it over the top for me was the refilling of the drink. Is that what you're talking about? No, I just met in the whole evening in there. Okay, so we get Sean doesn't like to be touched, the waiter's kind of getting close to take orders, but there was one point. Oh, shush.
There was one point where the waiter goes and grabs Sean's Diet Coke. Oh, that. And Sean, like... Practically yells at the guy, like, what are you doing? What are you doing? No, I did not. And the guy was like, I'm going to refill your drink, sir. Well, he just walks up and he grabs my drink. It's not even like, it's only like halfway down. And so he's a great server. He's completely overreacting. He walks up. He's completely overreacting. He is the one. He is the one. He is the one. May I speak? May I speak? May I speak? Please. He walks up. Without saying a word. Wait a minute. You're saying it. Snatches, by the way. Snatches. As opposed to walking up saying a word. Right. Yeah. Snatches that glass like it was an infant child. Yeah. And runs. Like he was a sexual predator. Yes. Yes. Like he's a sex offender.
Yeah, please. He picked that glass up and Sean goes, whoa, whoa, whoa. So embarrassing, Mike. So embarrassing. That is an overreaction. No, his actual words were. Are you trying to kill me? Sean goes, are you trying to kill me? The waiter. And the waiter is like so confused. What are you supposed to say when someone sneaks up behind you? Sneaks. He was a ninja waiter. Yes. Dress all in black. Tiptoeing. Took his shoes off before he entered the room. You know what I mean. You know what I mean. What do you mean? I mean that I'm sitting there having my dinner, and all of a sudden, this person comes up from behind. Yeah, yeah. I have no idea that he was there. Yeah. Reaches out and grabs my glass right off of the table. Right. Okay? Yeah. And then proceeds to stand there. Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait. I didn't know that. He took it right off the table? Yes. What? Oh.
Oh, my goodness. You mean he didn't sound the refill horn before he went in? Refill. Well, the way he went in to refill the glass, it was like he was starting a lawnmower. Usually, it's customary. Before you remove anything from anyone's plate, utensils, glassware, whatever, you politely ask. Excuse me, sir. Sir, may I offer you a refill? No. None of that. So when he did it the way he did. So he just takes it upon himself to go, oh, wow, this guy, he doesn't need this. Let me just grab this. To which Sean thought, this guy, I think, is trying to kill me. Obviously. Obviously, Mike. Really?
Because what Sean said to him was, are you trying to kill me? Look, what are you supposed to say when someone is acting so far outside the norm, right, that it completely takes you by surprise? I mean. Waiters do that all the time. They refill. Well, they did it with us, you know. Yeah, they refill. However, they don't come up behind you. They don't reach around you. Sneak up. And they don't pull your glass right off the table without saying a word. Sneak up. Just pick it up. He didn't sneak up, Mike. My wife is on the line. Oh, Mike. Here we go. Honey. Hi. Hi. I had to call because you guys are forgetting the most embarrassing. thing that happened. What? When the waiter accidentally, like, brushed against his back. Yeah. And as the waiter walked away, Sean said very loudly. Oh, yeah. Yeah. That would be reflected in your tip. In your tip. Yes, yes. I was mortified. You probably didn't hear that, Ashley. Did you hear that? Ashley or Rob? I was mortified. Yeah, and the guy turns around. Yeah.
The guy turns around and Sean's like, oh, I'm just kidding. But I'm not. Right. This is so messed up. Okay. And then remember when my napkin fell on the floor? Oh, oh. She got up to go say hi to Sky and Debra and Ashley. And when she did, her napkin fell on the floor. And Sean, it was like. He almost had a leaf. Oh, he did, man. Well, that's totally unsanitary. In fact, it's not even safe to take that and then put it near your mouth, on your mouth. So I say to Sean, I go, Sean, it's okay. It's okay. Don't worry. All she's going to do with that napkin is put it on her mouth. And he got so upset that he said a real bad FCC violation. if I did that. Yeah, you did. But no, I mean, the thing is, the thing with the waiter was as he was walking by, it's like...
It's like you're sitting there trying to have a nice meal, and all of a sudden someone totally bumps you, and your chest goes down almost into your food kind of a thing. You are so full of drama right now. He barely brushed you. Barely. Okay, first of all, it wasn't you. It was me. Well, I was sitting directly across from you. He grazed you. All right. Okay, listen. I was the one. Okay, so whatever you thought was going on, whatever you perceived from whatever angle you were looking. What really happened then, Sean? What did he do? What did he do? What did he do? This diabolical. Yes, this evil man. I never said diabolical. I never said evil. I never said anything like that. He was just... He was careless. What did he do? And I would say remiss in his duties as a waiter. Because from our perspective, he grazed you, but you're saying no, he didn't. So what did happen? I was sitting right next to him, by the way. So what happened, Sean? Yeah, but you weren't looking. So what happened was it was not a graze. It was a bump. He totally bumped me. He bumped you. Did he bump you really hard? Yes.
I mean, the thing is, if somebody bumps you, they bump you. It's not like, oh, that was a soft bump. I think that there is. A bump is a bump. I think there's a soft bump and there's a big bump. In other words, you wouldn't even be bringing it up unless it was a big bump. It was. Well, to me, it's not a bump unless, like, the table shakes. Yes. And I didn't see any of that. Sky, I saw it happen. He grazed Sean. But Sean's a germaphobe. He absolutely grazed. Here's the thing. Sean's a germaphobe. So he thought, oh, my goodness, that man's skin is all over me. Yeah, he just sexually assaulted me. Yes, I've been sexually assaulted. I've been sexually assaulted. Here's, here's, this is why the table didn't move. When I saw that he was coming, you know, walking, like, past. everybody behind me. And so as soon as he was coming near, I tensed up. Because I tensed up, when he bumped me, I didn't go against the table. I didn't go to my food. I didn't, you know, my utensils didn't get knocked out of my hands and nothing spilled. Had I been, don't laugh. Excuse me. Excuse me. Had I not been tense.
At that moment, yeah, wine would have spilled, water would have spilled, soup would have gone over the lip of the bowl. As it was, he practically pulled a whistle out of his pocket and started blowing it. But let me tell you, all night long, this guy was something else. He was offended by everything that happened. That's not true. It was so hard to control. That environment for him. There were plenty of times when the dude was appropriate. After that first debacle. The guy was great. The guy was great. Money. Yeah, total money. After that first, like, terrible incident. Terrible incident? Well, you know, whatever. Debacle, whatever. He refilled your soda? Well, after that. Okay. After that. That's a traumatizing moment. Of getting a refill. Then what? After that, every time he came by to refill my soda, he would ask politely. And it was kind of like, okay, now we're, you know, cooking with gas. Well, because he realized you're a freak. He realized that he did. He did. He's like, this guy is obviously territorial about his soda.
This guy's off his rocker. Right? You people exhaust me. So I must tread lightly around him. You exhaust everyone. You exhaust me. You embarrass me. You're the exhaust one. I don't know which word. You know, it's like, okay, I understand that you people have low standards. It's okay. Oh, my gosh. You also have manners, Sean. I'm totally serious. That's the thing. Hold on. I understand that you don't have high standards. That's all right. I don't mind that. However, myself. I have standards that, you know, people, what I consider, you know, normal etiquette. When you say normal etiquette, when you say normal etiquette, do you mean cutting your dinner bread with a knife and fork? Is that what you mean? Another chapter. Because what you did was. So ridiculous. You took tongs. And put the bread on your plate. Like a dinner roll. A dinner roll. Like a roll. A roll. A dinner roll. Then he took his knife and his fork. He didn't touch the bread ever. At one time, did he ever touch the bread with his hands? No, he got it out of the basket with his fork. Yep. I thought he did it with tongs, but he did it with his fork.
I wouldn't use tongs if they would have had them, but of course, the waiter never brought any. Most people don't use tongs for dinner rolls. It's a piece of bread. It's a basket of bread. Off to a bad start. So he cuts the bread open with his knife and his fork. He butters it, and then he proceeds to cut it like a steak. Yes. He, like, took the roll and then ended up cutting it in four equal pieces. Four equal symmetrical pieces. It was crazy. Yeah, it was so OCD. Guys act like this is all weird. And you know that it's not weird. It's just, you know, having standards. You have standards. What did he order for dinner? I don't remember what his entree was. Steak Diane. Steak Diane, because they make a great steak Diane at the Cheesecake Factory. That's what I said. Yes, that's what I said. Oh, wow. And then remember, he gave us a history lesson on the guy from the Cheesecake Factory. That was actually interesting. Because Sean had watched a movie about the Cheesecake Factory. I thought it would be interesting, and it was. Oh, whatever. It's fantastic. Thank you, honey. Don't eat a roll with your fingers. That was unbelievable. Yes, it was. Yeah, you are.
What about this? Do you know who I've got to say? Do you know who's most overweight? Do you know who's a germaphobe? I think you're in the know. Studio. Oh, sure. Playing P1 trivia. The Mikey Morton Show. Let's do this. What we do is we get a couple of people on the line to play Mikey Show trivia. And it works like the Dumb Chick Challenge. You've got to get the five points. And we have one, two, and three-point questions. Ones are easy, threes are hard. Very easy. Text messages we're getting. Mikey, I'm a waiter, and sometimes I don't ask to refill a drink because I don't want to interrupt the conversation. And by the way, tip jokes always suck. Thank you. I agree. Mikey, is Sean going to a therapist? Because if not, Mikey, you might need to have a talk with him. Tell him to look up the keyword help on your website.
It's P1 Jenny Jen. That is a good resource, Sean. That's a good resource, Sean. Don't, come on. It's a fine resource. I don't need it, though. By the way, by the way, Sean used a new one on somebody at our house on Wednesday night. A guy came up to him and put his hand out to shake, shut his hand, and Sean goes, oh, no, thank you. Best one ever. It's the best one I've heard yet. And we because we had people over Wednesday night. I do a group at my house on Wednesday night or Tuesday night. But we did it Wednesday night because of fantasy football. Sean was there. So he waits in his room for everyone to get there so that he doesn't have to shake hands. Well, one guy got there late. I got there late. And so he walks in and he puts his hand out and Sean goes, oh, no, thank you. I'm good. I was trying to be polite. And the guy was so confused, like, no, thank you to my hand. Okay. I've never heard that before, but okay. Uh, let's see. Feel free to use it. Whoever needs it. I will. It's a great move. Mikey, I just saw a license plate that said, excuse me. That's P1 carpet cleaner. That's fantastic. You've seen that?
That's fantastic. That stupid is what it is. Well, Sky one time said, excuse me, but it came out, excuse me. And, of course, we didn't let her forget it. Anyway. Excuse me. Please. Do you want trivia? Come on. Let's see. Hey, Mikey, thanks. Now I have that stupid pink song stuck in my head. Mikey, I say right on to pink. Go through a divorce. or two, and then you may get the lyrics. That's P1OP. Go through a divorce or two. Right. Yeah, I would say that if you've been through a couple, there's probably some hurt, sadness, or fear. Let's play a little P1 trivia. What do you say? P1 Libby is on the line. Libby, how are you? Good, how are you? You call yourself that because you're a liberal or because your name is Libby? It's the Irish shortened version for Elizabeth. Ah, gotcha.
Libby, how old are you? 26. And how long have you been listening? Since before you guys did Do You Sound Hot. Oh, wow. Oh, wow. That's a long time. So I would say. Kind of like P1 Quimby. You guys turned it on and you guys were there and Howard wasn't and it was much better. So at least three to four years you've been listening. Cool. And you are going to be playing P1 Slide. Good morning again. How you doing? My boy. Fantastic. Slide, how old are you? I'm 27. 27? Uh-huh. How long have you been listening? First show I heard was a 28-hour show in 2005, so almost three years now. Got a very dead-even match here between Libby and Slide. Oh, yeah. All the questions are about the Mikey show. You get one, two, or three-point questions. First person of five points is the winner. Are you ready? Yes, sir. Slide, we begin with you. Would you like a one, two, or three-point question? I'm going to start out sky style, safe. I'm going to go with the two. You got it.
What is Ashley's dog's name? Sammy. That is correct. Well done. Well, thank you. P1 Libby, one, two, or three-pointer? I'll take a two. Your two-point question is, who hosts the Saturday morning best of show for the Mikey show? Ashley. That is correct. We are tied two to two. P1 slide. Yes. Are you going to go for it, finish it off? Are you going to play it safe with a two? Do I clinch it or do I go? Let's see here. You know you can clinch it, Slide. I'm going to go with the three. Oh, go with the three. I'll have this, no problem. Slide, this is a very, very tough three-point question. He's got this! What is the name of Sean's 7-Eleven friend? Cool Deep. What? Cool Deep. Holy cow! Oh, for a second. Dude. I want to know what happened to his girl power.
Yeah, I don't know what happened to Ashley's girl power. Well, P1 Slide, he was at our whole P1 Hall of Fame event. I hung out with him, like, a lot of it, and I really became friends with him. And he said he has... Oh, that's strong words. She really became friends with you. Yeah. Do you know his cell number? No. Do you know his mother's name? No. Do you know how many siblings he has? No. What happened was I happened to be carrying an ashtray at the time where she wanted to put out a cigarette. I got you. It really bonded instantly. It really brought us together. We're my best friends. I mean, it was unreal, the timing on that. I gotcha. Slide and Libby, you can both come in. Libby, you did good. I have a question, Mikey. Go ahead. Would I be able to bring in my brother? He's a firefighter. Yep. He's like a major listener. Yeah, you can. That's great. Awesome. So, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Hang on. Yeah. Hang on one. Well done. Wow. Well said. Sean made friends with the guy at 7-Eleven. His name is Cool Deep. Very nice man. Mr. Deep. Imagine the nurse walking out into the waiting room with a clipboard. Nurse. Cool Deep. Cool Deep. That's his first name.
I know, but they say, oh, that's his first name? Yeah, that's his first name. What's his last name? I can't even pronounce it. Oh, my. Wow. This just has changed my whole life. Oh, you didn't? You thought that was his whole name? Yeah. Yeah. Last name Deep. Yeah, like I thought his last name was spelled like D-E-P-E and it's pronounced Deep. There's got to be a K in there. Yeah, like, okay, his first name I'm guessing is K-U-L. K-U-H-L. K-U-H-L, okay. Yeah. And the second part of it is D-I-E-P. No, it's just D-I-P. Cool deep. Wow, you got to get that guy's last. That is fantastic. Oh, good time. Christina Aguilera, Video Music Award Performance, cut 21. See if she sounds good.
Everybody trying to sound like the I Kissed a Girl girl. Isn't this Jeannie in a Bottle? Jeannie in a Bottle? It sounds like this really is Christina Aguilera. Thank you. Yeah, I guess she did like a techno new version of Jeannie in a Bottle and then had it go into one of her new songs. Oh, that's awesome. That, to me, that totally sounded like Katy Perry's song, I Kissed a Girl. Oh, and did you hear about this? There was supposed to be this whole riff between Miley and Katie. But, you know, because Katie Perry used to sing backup for Miley Cyrus. Really? Yeah, and then when Katie Perry had this huge hit and she started talking about how she used to sing backup, you know, oh, is there bad blood? So to show the world that they're really friends, they showed up together in the same limo. Great.
This was from the Today Show. Matt Lauer is responding to a question from a viewer slash concerned parent who asked why the Today Show chose to allow Katy Perry to perform that song, I Kissed a Girl. Cut 39. Brenda writes this. Why did you choose to promote the song I Kissed a Girl on your show? As a parent, I'm disappointed in your decision to have this artist on your show. Matt, you got a chance to talk to her afterwards. Hey, you know what? First of all, this is a song that's become extraordinarily popular over the summer. It's playing on mainstream radio stations. All across the country. And I talked to Katie about it. I said, what was your intent? She said, I didn't write it or sing it to make it an oh no song. And I think if you watch her performing, you realize she performs it tongue in cheek. No pun intended. But she performs it with a sense of humor. She has a sense of humor about herself. There's an H in that word. It's not a silent H.
harm and there's no intent to offend anyone. And it's catchy. There have been songs throughout history that have contained controversial lyrics and have become part of the mainstream. Yeah, that song. Well, I'm old. I'm an old dude. Well, what trips me out about that is she was a Christian artist for so many years. Get out! Both her parents, I believe, are pastors. And she was a Christian artist and that obviously wasn't going anywhere for her. And then she goes the whole opposite direction, writes this song. It's the hugest hit of the summer. It's controversial and it's being played everywhere. Oh, that's gnarly. Yeah. And there's and, you know, for somebody like me, there's such a message in that. There's a message in that. And there's like, yeah, well, you know, it's a trip, you know, like my BF, Michelle.
You know, her and I were very like, you know, kind of down to earth girls, you know. Well, she helps raise her five-year-old niece. And she was telling me the other day, like I felt like we were a bunch of old grannies talking. She was like, yeah, you know, and I can't really have the radio on anymore. That Katy Perry, I kissed a girl. I don't want my five-year-old niece running around the schoolyard singing I kissed a girl. And I was like, wow, what a trip. I was talking to my wife about it. I was talking to my wife about the song the other day. And what I said to her was, I said, man, I go, I don't think I've ever heard a song that the lyrics of the song are bumming out so much, yet the song is so catchy. It's, I mean, not only is it catchy, but it's the first time that you hear it, you go, oh yeah, that's a gigantoid hit. Yeah, it's infectious. It's infectious. It's a great way to put it. It's infectious. But the thing that really is gnarly about it to me is that it is a hundred. Now, this is just from my perspective, my point of view, because you guys know what I'm all about. I used to live this super, super gnarly life with strippers, booze, drugs, stuff like that.
thing in life was to be like Howard Stern. I did an appearance on the Howard Stern show. I did a, when I did the night show for Rock 105, I did a much bluer show than Howard Stern's morning show. Oh, definitely. I could get away with more at night. Yes. And so we did things that Howard Stern couldn't even do. So I've been in both places. But when I got, when I got saved, everything started changing for me. um, you know, and God changed my heart. Like, so the way that I thought and that I felt it all changed. So now I have a different perspective than I did back then. And it's totally cool, man. Like if you, uh, if you disagree or you have a different opinion, everybody that listens to the show knows that I'm, I am not the finger wagging, like, Ooh, you're bad. I don't, you know, like I can't cause I'm no better than anybody. You know, I, you know, I got my stuff too.
But the thing that was disappointing to me about it was that I thought to myself, there might be kids that go, that is so cool. I can't wait to start making out with girls or going, I can't start making out with girls and tasting that cherry chapstick. And that all sounds rad. Like it's hip. It's cool. Let's make out. Well, I think that was already present in. that age group without that song. I know when I was kind of growing up, getting into my early 20s, it was starting to be more commonplace for it really to be cool for girls to get drunk at the bar and kiss and have everybody watch. Even though they're not lesbians, they're not bisexuals, but it just got them attention. They knew the dudes wanted to watch them do it, and they would do it.
You know, so that's kind of something that's been around, you know. I guess we're culturally we're taking it a step further and a step further and a step further and a step further. Like, you know, and that's the reason I think that it's it's a big hit for two reasons. One, it's got a cool sound. But the other is that it's taking it a step further. Madonna did the same crap. Madonna did it, too. You know, she like she took it a step further with something. And that's why it was really cool, because it was like so outrageous and it was so different. So now the deal is a really hard driving beat with rich, really catchy lyrics. And it's about lesbians. That's going to be a hit. There's no doubt about it. Kids are going to go, oh, that's cool. That that is opposite of, you know, yeah, that's opposite of like anything my mom and dad will listen to. Well, but you know what is a trip to me when I look at our society and it's like. Violence is so not a thing in music. Like, when I hear them edit certain rap songs, they'll take a sexual reference, and because that's no longer acceptable, they'll make it a violence reference. And it's like, we don't even bat an eye if somebody does a whole song about murdering people, but...
sexuality our society you know is immediately like oh my gosh oh my gosh is this okay what are we doing it's it's very interesting you know and like we were talking last week in the UK they banned those Angelina Jolie wanted posters for that movie wanted because too much gun violence like here that's not even a thought to us but to them that's a big deal yeah so it's very interesting how America reacts to these things Ashley what do you think um I I agree with Skye. And I don't know. I've watched Katy Perry on MTV. I've seen her in interviews. And she's a really down-to-earth girl. And her video, there's not like one part of the video that's a girl's kissing at all. It's like a super goody two-shoes video of I Kissed a Girl. Her demeanor, the way she holds herself. Goody two-shoes. It's like the video is like super goody-goody. There's no like sexuality in it whatsoever. What's the video? Of her singing on MTV, I Kissed a Girl. I know, but what is it? It's just kind of her like going through rooms and there's like, you know, it's like kind of her in a club scene going through rooms singing the song. It's like a very innocent video. Like I for sure thought there'd be her kissing a girl in the video. Not even close. So she represents herself. Wait, wait, dude. I'm watching. I've seen now 10 seconds of it. It's not goody two shoes. She's not kissing a girl. But the first thing you see is a shot of a girl.
laying on her stomach with her butt cheeks hanging out of the back of these things, you know. Boy shorts. Yeah, the boy shorts. That's not what I was looking for. I was looking, I for sure thought there'd be girls kissing in the video. That just made my point. What that says is, is that, okay, first of all, 15 years ago, maybe, the images that I saw would have been like kind of wild, kind of racy. Like NC-17. Sure, sure. Back in the day. Sure. And now, in 2008, Like, I got to tell you, people are going to be thinking it's like laughable, this conversation 15, 20 years from now. Right. Because then there's going to be a song out and it's going to be about dildos or something. It'll be crazy. There'll be a pop song. And the Today Show will have some chick and the song will be about dildos and stuff to do. Right. And that'll be kind of scandalous. Kind of. And this will be laughable. Right.
And, you know, it's like Elvis shaking his hips. Exactly. You know, exactly. So you got it. So you go, OK, well, I wonder what like at what point will it be like, oh, man. Now, do I say I do say this. She has a right to do that, man. There shouldn't be any bannings going on. Like, I don't think that the Today Show should have banned the performance. I don't think that like they have a right to put it on and it is a big pop song. What about a middle school dance? Is that song appropriate for a middle school dance? No. No. If you were a parent, you wouldn't want that song played at your kid's middle school dance. No. And see, here's the thing. My thing is that if it were me, I'd go, well, we don't have to listen to that station. I would never be, as a Christian, I'd never be on board banning stuff. That's not really what the country's about. Exactly. Not only is it not what the country's about, it's kind of not what Christianity is about. Like my Christianity is not about saying, oh, you suck and you are a sinner. That's not what it's about. It's about living my life and sharing what Christ has done in my life. That's what being Christian is to me. But it's not about banning stuff. And I think that those whack jobs that start doing the bannings and all that, they're out of touch. Not only are they out of touch, but they're making it bad and tough for.
me to do my job it makes it harder because wackies screw it up for everybody you know and we all just choose like what what's a choice what do you what do you choose for your kid like michelle said she'll want her kid her uh niece listening to that yeah all right hey man if that's what you're into and you're into it knock yourself out i'm just saying that uh it it i am not one of the folks that go oh my gosh this should be taken off the radio I'm one of the guys going, oh, man, that's kind of a bummer. That kind of blows. And you're just not going to, you know, buy it on iTunes. I don't buy it. No. Yeah, I just don't buy it. That's all. P1 Peaches. Hello. I heard the radio and I hit the line. Sorry, Peaches. Mikey Show. Thank you so much for saying what he's saying. He's right. Christianity is not about being like. we're better than you, you're wrong, we're right, and banning a bunch of junk. That's not it at all. Yeah, thank you. Not that it's about a Christian thing, because Skye, I don't know that Skye's necessarily into it, and she's not a Christian, but it's like, it's just about choices, right? I mean, and what you're into and what you're not into. Right. I don't think that this is, because, like, I don't think that Michelle's take on it is a Christian take, necessarily. I don't, and maybe it is, but I think she isn't, she just, that's her opinion.
Yeah, I think that's just her opinion and what she wants her, you know, niece exposed to. You know, personally, I don't know how I feel because I don't really have any problem singing, having people sing about bisexuality and homosexuality. Like, you know, I think, you know, everybody's got their own thing. But I definitely see how this song could kind of get. Yeah, I didn't even ask you. So you're you're fine with it. Yeah. You know, I'm fine with it because, you know, to me, it's like, yeah, there are lesbian women who kiss girls. What kind of. is weird to me about it is katie perry isn't a lesbian she's not bisexual so to me it's almost like she's latching on to that just for publicity and that's yeah and i don't like that i don't like that because there are people that's that's how they live that's their love you know i wouldn't want someone singing about you know a girl kissing a guy you know if that's not their thing you know be you is all i ask right uh 570-1053 our text is 35253 We got to get out of here. You see the time? Yeah. What happened? It's 1044. Yeah. But I've gotten through most of this stuff. What did I? Oh, you know what we didn't get to? What? The jet blue flight from Massachusetts to Florida that had to get diverted because a fight broke out. Yep. Sorry. What's up? Okay. So this happened on Saturday. And like you said, it was going from Boston to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. And I guess somebody.
You know, because all we have now is information from witnesses on the flight. They say that one person was smoking in the bathroom. No. Yeah. Someone was smoking in the bathroom. And then three people got in a fight. One of the people was from the bathroom and then two other people. They got in a fight regarding the person smoking in the bathroom. And from witnesses, they believe the three people knew each other that were fighting and that two of them were like brothers. One of the brothers punched the other brother in the face because he was mad at him for smoking. They were both named Daryl, by the way. They were brothers, but they were both named Daryl. Yeah, please. So, yeah, one brother was angry at the other brother because he lit up in the bathroom. And so he, you know, to maybe not, you know, he's mad at him because it's causing a scene and getting them in trouble. So, obviously, the solution to that is to start a fist fight at however many thousand feet. Oh, my. So they had to divert the plane and do an emergency landing in North Carolina where people were held there for two hours while the FBI interviewed every passenger on the plane. Are you serious? Every passenger had to be interviewed? How mad would you be if, you know, a jerk face like this over here? And you can't get to where you're going. Because somebody had to smoke a butt.
And you got to get interviewed by the FBI. Yeah. Sometimes you need that nicotine. Okay. No. Sometimes you jones in. Yeah. You just got to light up. Dude, I was alive during a period of time where there was a smoking section on board planes. I wish that was still around. And there was little ashtrays built into the airplane arms. Yeah. My dad was a smoker and my mom wasn't a smoker. So one, you know, I have. I have one sibling, so it was always who's going to sit with dad and who's going to sit with mom. And neither of us wanted to sit in the smoking section. But now that you look back at it, like, what's the difference? It's all recirculated air in a little tube. Why not both of you guys sit with mom and dad just sit in the smoking section? Why didn't you guys do it that way? Dad wanted company. Yeah, and I also think because, like, you know, my brother was a boy who had a lot of energy, we shall say. So they needed to, like, split us up for the safety of the plane. All right, let's take some calls, and then we've got to get out of here. P1 Chris is on the line. Hey, Mikey. What's up, dude? Hey, what's up? How you doing?
Hey, I just wanted to say, you know what? Sunday's the longest day of my life because I just look forward to you guys getting back on the air. I'm right on, dude. Love the show. Especially today when you were talking to Tyra about when someone asks you a question, you have to be straight out and honest. I can't tell you how much respect I have for that because I've tried to tell some of my coworkers and people in the restaurant business that that's how you should be, but sometimes no one gets it. Thank you, man. Anyway, all you guys love you. You're the best. Thanks, man. I appreciate that. P1300 is on the line. What's going on, Mikey? What's up, dude? Nothing. I just wanted to say to all the P1s that made it in the Hall of Fame this weekend, I was sorry I didn't make it up. I wanted to see them all get in there, but found out that my fiance got strep throat. I might have had it, and I was like, I ain't going up there. Thank you. Yeah, we appreciate that. I do. I appreciate it. I think that's great of you. Seriously. One last congrats to them. Thank you. I appreciate it, dude. P1 Scooby is on the line. Oh, Scooby. Hey, what's going on, guys? What's up, dude? I just wanted to say that all is right with the world right now. Why is that? Because the Raiders have a chance to be first in the AFC. What? And the Dodgers are in first place. Yes, yes, yes. Talk about it. Oops, we got disconnected. Isn't that too bad? My finger slipped and we got disconnected. I don't know what happened. Sorry about that, Scooby. We got Mikey's show. Last call. Bring us home. Mikey. What's up?
P-H-I to the L-L-Y in the hizzy. Oh, wow. How about that? What's up? Well, well, well. What's happening? What's going on, dude? Rob, Rob, don't even start. I won't, I won't. I won't say anything about the Mets. And I won't say anything about Kevin O'Connell possibly getting the start for the Patriots. All right, then we'll keep it at that, and we'll stay friends today. We'll keep it at that. All right, we're all buddies. Thank you for the call. No one said anything. Lovely and talented Missy is up next today. She's got, on the Nooner, double shots, so you'll love it. Make sure you listen two in a row. Come back here tomorrow morning at 5.30. We'll do it all over again. The Mikey Show's out, right?
