Street Scene replaced the Black Crowes with Devo, and Mikey, Eddie, Sky, and Boston Rob argued that no replacement—or acts such as Blues Traveler, Wolfmother, or Three Doors Down—would have been less insulting. Sean secretly recorded his neighbor cutting vegetation in a protected butterfly preserve and planned to use the footage to force the HOA to act. For the charity 28-hour broadcast, Mikey chose Rocky III and Titanic as the two movies the crew and listeners would watch and mock together. Harold's five-dollar reward for every goal his son scored split the room: Mikey saw a useful real-life incentive, while Eddie and Sky warned that money could crowd out fun, teamwork, and love of the game. Diego Sanchez later discussed UFC opponents and peers, while Mikey closed the show by describing how alcoholism isolated him and how Christian faith restored his hope.

P1 Habanero promised homemade Refining Fire hot sauce, prompting Old Man Baker to claim that truly hot pepper seeds must be kept under an armpit for years.
Devo Replaces the Black Crowes
The crew mocked Street Scene for replacing the canceled Black Crowes with Devo, arguing that no replacement or a younger Southern-rock act would have been less disappointing.
Sean's Butterfly Sting
Sean filmed his feuding neighbor using electric hedge trimmers in a protected wildlife preserve and vowed to send the close-up evidence to their HOA.
The 28-Hour Movie Picks
Mikey announced that the charity 28-hour show would riff on Rocky III and Titanic in a late-night Mystery Science Theater-style double feature.
The Infrared Sauna Call
A mother called from her home infrared sauna to complain that her freshman son's team had faced an unfairly recruited Orange County squad, while Mikey teased her conspicuous comfort.
Five Dollars a Goal
Harold's practice of paying his son five dollars per soccer goal sparked a debate in which Mikey called incentives preparation for real life while Eddie and Sky said youth sports should teach fun, teamwork, and intrinsic

California lawmakers and the governor have finally come to a compromise on the California budget and will vote on the new plan today. The Americans are going to try and get the Ryder Cup back, taking on the Europeans right now. Is the Ryder Cup, Eddie, votes? No, it's golf. It's golf? Yep. Where do they do that? They do it in, they rotate Europe and America. Nice. Is it easy to play in England and Europe, or is it harder to play there? Like, what are their courses like compared to? Exact same thing. It is? Yeah. This is weird, man. When we were watching the British Open, did you notice how their grass is all gnarly? It's, they grow it thicker. Oh, they do? Yeah. Does that make it easier or harder? Harder, much harder. If you want to, you can call us, 570-1053. And if you want, you can text us at 35253. And if you've never texted before, you can get in on the text messages. Real simple. Just text the word Mikey to 35253. It'll give you this thing back that it tells you how to do it. It's just regular text message costs that incur. And then you can text us all the time at 35253. It's the quickest way to get you on the radio, the text messages. We get them right away.
Rob goes through them. Here, here, here. And then we get them on the air. It's pretty cool. 35253 is the text. And at the beginning and end of every show, we do open phones. You can call about anything you want to. 570-1053 is the number. And we'd love to hear from you. Where is Chantel? Usually she's here real early. She's here. She's here? Yeah, she just got here. She's getting some coffee or something? No, Seth, she just called me. Seth is going to go grab her. She's probably going to have a bone to pick with me since I'm... doing this date thing. Oh boy. She called late in the show yesterday because we were talking about how our friend Lori, we're going to be setting her up on a date on the 28 hour show. So Chantel called in right away. Freaking out. Freaking out. Like what? Screaming. What are you thinking about? Yeah. Screaming. At the top of her lungs. Yelling at me. Like put me on the radio now. Gosh. You know? Violent. Ashley got all scared, and all I know is, you know, Ash sent me this instant message like, Chantal needs to talk to you now. ASAP. ASAP. So let me introduce everybody on the show. I'm the host. My name is Marianne Cucci, and I used to be on NBC 739. I used to be an Asian woman. Welcome. And a few years back, I had a change of heart, and I decided to become a short, Mexican, shaved bald man with a goatee.
Works for you. Yeah? And so here I am. Fascinating. Yeah, my name's Mike. Did anybody eat tomatoes that I brought in? Eddie, Sky, Ash? Nobody's had the tomatoes yet? That's good, because the longer they go, the more, you know, delicious they get. Here she is. Here is Chantel. This is the lovely Chantel. She's looking sharp. Oh, yeah. She's looking great. When is she not? What have you been doing? She's not a charger girl anymore. What have you been doing with your time? You probably have a lot more free. How long were you a Charger girl? Six years. So for the first time in six years, your schedule, your weekend schedule is pretty free. Pretty free. I still watch football all Sunday. You do? Monday nights. Going to London. You're going to London? Yeah, I'll play. Wow. I'll say it, Eddie. I'll say it. How did you finagle this?
Well, a couple of Camry's going. Charger girl, Camry. Former. Former Charger girl, Camry. How did she finagle this? It's like a girl's trip. Ah. Well, we do it every year anyway. I mean, when I was on the team, we'd go to a couple of games on the road. A group of us would be like eight or nine. Yeah. And so, just going to go support and have fun in London. Oh, yeah. Just go to London. No problem. Oh, yeah. How many gals? Now it's one, two, three, four. Five that I know of so far. Wow. So five of you girls. Is it all former Charger girls? Yes. Wow. Sweet. Oh, my. Five former Charger girls. Yeah. In London. In London. It's a movie. New on Fox. Yeah. I'm Mikey. I'm the host of the show. And what can I tell you? I like carbs. You do, too. So don't try to, you know, pretend like you don't. We all do. Carbs taste good. You know what I mean? I don't know what's up with them. I don't know why they have to taste like that. How come pasta and bread taste so good? Why can't broccoli taste like that? Figure it out. That'd be awesome. If broccoli tasted like pasta and bread, that'd be really good, but it don't, man. It tastes like green stuff.
Eddie, what's your favorite food ever? Oh, oh, I mean, you can't just ask a question all willy-nilly like that. What's your last meal? This is all happening too fast. Well, I'm a big fan of what my dad cooks. My dad is my favorite. Like, anything he makes is awesome. Be glad for the food on your plate. I am. So it'd have to be something that he would make. Yeah. You know? If you, like, he does pesto. Yeah. He does these great steaks, man. Yeah. Is your dad chicken wine stew or is that your mom? No, that's my dad. Gosh, that's good, too, man. Now, Eddie. Yeah, chicken wine stew. It's like white wine, garlic, you know. All good things. Oh, man, it's so good. All good things. There's probably some butter in there, too, because it tastes good. Sweetberry wine. It's not anything your dad makes, right? What? Anything your dad makes. Yeah, for sure. I think I might have to go that way, too. Yeah. It's crazy good. Sky's rocking the headband. Hi. Oh, there you go. White headband today. Mm-hmm. Looking good. Thank you. Sky, our news girl. She's 30 years of age. Thank you. And expert fountain constructor. Yes, I am now, unfortunately. You know what you're up to with that thing, right? Yeah, I got it all figured out now.
How's that thing running? Good. I want to take a picture of it this weekend so I can put it on my blog because I'm so proud because it only took us, like, what, three, four weeks to put together a fountain. So I'm really proud of what we've accomplished there. You get all the dead bugs out of it? Well, Mike, I mean, there's new dead bugs every single day. I mean, it's like a breeding ground. You should put up a sign or something. Right, put up a little fence. Quit dying here. You know what I mean? Yep. Shawnee, oh boy, how about that guy? Oh, Shawnee. Hi. That's Sean with the white undershirt in the camera. That's me, hi. That's right, he broadcasts from San Francisco. Little known fact about Sean, he's a tall guy, but he's got petite feet. Oh, wow. So, there you go. I wish I did. No, he doesn't. Yeah, Sean's, what size are you, Sean? 14 and a half, Mike. Oh my gosh. Yeah, it's not fun. 14 and a half. Yeah, and like... I found these really cool shoes the other day. They're like Ed Hardy shoes. Sleuths. Oh, sleuths. Whatever. Okay, that's all right. No, Sean wears sleuths. He does, though, Sean. It's true. Are they slippers or are they shoes? I think they're kiss my asses. Oh, no. That means it's not a good one with Sean. That went downhill. Slap in the face. What were special about the new shoes?
They were just really cool looking. They had good colors and they had a good design. No vases. Please, Ashley, if you don't mind, I'd like to hear the end of the story. She's helping. No, that's not helping. So you like the design and the color? That's all done. Oh, boy. That's too bad. Well, maybe not. You know what I mean? Maybe not. I don't think that's going to help. Whatever. Guy's got shoes and that's all we need to know. And feet. He does have feet. Fourteen and a half size. Wow. Large foot. Ashley's our assistant producer. Oh, no. Oh, no. The war is on. Her and Sean have quite a chemistry. They could not be more different. They're best friends. I mean, if you think about how different Sky and I are, even Eddie and Sky, I don't even think it comes close to how different Ashley and Sean are. Worlds apart.
Which makes it so weird that we are so close. That's right. Actually, we're not. We're not. We're each other's favorite people. We're not, and I like it that way. It feels good. I think it's three words. I think it's BFF. Best friends forever. We're each other's number one fans. That's right. Not by a long shot. If you will. They go on to each other's fan sites. That's sweet. Ashley, by the way, 25 years old. Boston Rob, the guy over there in the Boston Red Sox jersey, is, yeah. Guess who got him that jersey? Is that the one you got him for his birthday, Eddie? Mm-hmm. That's the good luck one. Yeah. My favorite one. That's right. And I only break it out on certain occasions. Yeah. Why did you feel like you need to break it out? Well, we're making a, you know, hopefully a good run. Hopefully a good run. I'm not saying anything. Yeah. Last push. Ten games left.
You know, the weird thing is, is that, you know, if you appear before a judge, usually the law works the same for everybody. But if they really wanted to make it tough, they would just say, well, you, Boston Rob, you don't get to wear any more Red Sox stuff. All right. That would be a tough haul. I'd have to go nude everywhere. Might not be bad. That's right. Go for it. Okay. And then there is Sir Roosevelt, Zephian, Oates III, Jr., Esquire, M.D., DDS.com. Oh, I forgot. CEO. Where's your three by five? Did you write it down for me? I don't even think he knows it. I tried yesterday. I couldn't get it all. You couldn't do it? Yeah. I'll do it. Let me do it for you. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know it. And you know what? It's not brain science. It's not like we're rocket doctors over here. Are you sure about that? That's can do. Ash, and make sure you add president and CEO. Oh, yeah. President and CEO. Sir Zethian. Yeah. Let's try it. Oh, no. That's not Sir Zethian. I'm not even going to. Sir Roosevelt, Zethian, Oates III, Jr., Esquire, MD, DDS. President and CEO.com. President and CEO.com.
Because we end it with .com, shouldn't it start with www? Oh, no. I'm just saying. Wow. It doesn't seem right. Wow. That's kind of true. Yeah, it's a valid point. www.sirroosevelt.com. There it is. There it is. www.sirroosevelt.com. That's it. We got to get that website. For sure. That's our new website. That's crazy. It's easy to remember. Uh-oh. Ashley just had a look on her face like, oh, I don't know. Does Junior or Esquire come first? Junior. I need to spell Esquire. I'll figure it out. Unbelievable. Rosie is our... Rosie is our phone screener. Give us a call. 570-1053. Wait a minute. What is this, Eddie? Prosecutors in Georgia have filed charges against Mikey fantasy football wide receiver Brandon Marshall. Well, this is an old case. I guess it happened like six months ago where Brandon Marshall.
Beat up his girlfriend. Oh, lovely. And I guess George has just decided to file the counts of simple battery against him. So, you know, now that's another thing added to his docket that he gets to deal with. I wonder if the NFL will do anything about that. I think that all his suspension, that was part of his, you know, like. bad boy suspension. I forget what they call it. Yeah, because he had to miss. You get it. He had to miss week one. Yeah. So it's all in there. Personal behavior policy. That's right. Oh, hello. Something like that. I like bad boy. Yeah, it makes more sense. Please. 570-1053 is the phone number. Give us a call. We'd love to talk to you. Eddie finally got the force unleashed on video. I really considered calling in sick today. That means he liked it. Yeah, he's a fan. I got it, and as soon as I got it, I wanted to play it, but I had to wait and eat dinner and all that stupid stuff. And then once that was over with, I immediately went upstairs and put it in. It's crazy, man. Holy moly. You get to be Darth Vader right out of the gate.
Are you serious? Yeah, and it's kind of strange because you are on that Wookiee planet, and you're killing Wookiees, and I feel really weird about that. Why are you killing Wookiees? Because you're Vader. We love the Wookiees. The whole point is it happens after Episode 3 and right before Episode 4, and so you're hunting down Jedi. And killing the remainder of the Jedi. And so it was really weird and kind of uncomfortable. But once you get past that, then you become his apprentice. And you got a whole different set of missions. And it didn't make me feel as weird. I love Wookiees. I would like to mention that we have a couple of listeners in the studio along with Chantel. Yeah, break it off. We'll be playing Battle of the Sex with you guys in just a little bit. But we have P1 Trophy Lounge in the studio. What's up? And he won P1 Trivia on Tuesday. And so he's sitting here in the studio with us today. He's got on his laminate.
Everybody gets a laminate when they come and hang out in here. We're going to have catered breakfast. It's real cool. And we are also being joined, ladies and gentlemen, by P1. There he is. There he is. Let's have him step up to a microphone and say hello. This guy's phenomenal. Yo. Yo, what's cracking? How you doing? How you doing? I'm chilling, man. I got like a hubcap in the fast lane. Putting the paint where it ain't. Early in the morning. I love it. 6.15 to me. You usually up at this time? Yeah, got to go work. Got to get paid. You got the day off? No, I'm going to work. What time? As soon as I leave here. Really? I did a little overtime yesterday. That's cool. And then I'm leaving, going on vacation. Where are you going? Going to Italy. What? That's crazy. That's how I roll, Sky. I mean, oh. You're going to Italy for a week, so I'm going to miss the show. Who are you going with? Friends and family. Really? Yes, sir. Dude, that's awesome. That's how I roll, Mike. Yo, roll for one more.
I want to go. Hey, Shimon, hide in the suitcase. It's nothing. What's up? I could fit. Shimon, you get out of here. You're going to London. What are you talking about? Whoa. She's going to London. Now she wants to go to Italy. Yeah. That's cool, dude. You're going to go for a week? Yeah. I'm leaving Saturday in the a.m., and then I'll probably be back next Friday or Saturday. Nice. That's cool, man. 16-hour flight, though. Killing me, Smalls. You taking a laptop with you? No, I got PSP, my iPod. Yeah, that's about it. You'll be back for the 28-hour show. Oh, I will be, indeed. And I got some plans for the 28-hour show, too. Oh, man, I don't know what that means. Can you give us a live scream since you're here? Yeah. A little off mic, a little off mic. All right, all right. Love it. Wow. That is huge. That is huge. That's great. That is awesome. Text messages say, morning, Mikey and company. My wife and I found out we're having twins. Nice. He went Navy. By the way, our phone lines are not ringing. We don't have one phone line lit right now. People are wiping the dreamy out of their eyes. Wicky wicky. Hey, Mikey, how about for the 28 hour show? One of the movies is Good Will Hunting.
That's P1 Puck. You can't make fun of that movie. Well, since we're on the topic, we're going to be announcing what the movies are for the 28-hour show in the 7 o'clock hour. That's right. That's right. So get ready. Mikey, what's the song you guys opened the show with? And where can I get a P1 sticker? Thanks, that's P1 Pizza Man. The song that we opened the show with is Baby, Please Don't Leave Me. By Buddy Guy. And you can get a sticker by coming here to the radio station and picking one up. And I know that Cricket had stickers for a while. They may still. If they haven't run out, I would try Cricket. Because there's one near you. Eddie, even though Sean Merriman isn't playing, do you think he should be on the sidelines to pump up the defense? He won green eggs and scam. Okay. I think he probably will be for home games. Yeah. Do you think he should be?
Why not? Yeah. What's going to happen? Is there any policy about that? Or is it kind of what if the player's injured, they can kind of do whatever they want? Yeah, pretty much. I mean, he may even travel with them. Now, what do you mean when you say, you know, like, do you think, is it bad if he doesn't? Like, if he doesn't go on the sideline, he stays at home and watches the game, is that bad? I don't think he would. Yeah. I don't think he would not. He still wants to be out there. And, you know, I mean, it's really hard for him. to not play, but he still is part of the team, and he'll be out there. Yeah. Man, this is a correction, and I believe they are correct. Mikey, you forgot patent pending in Roosevelt's... Oh, jeez. Back to the drawing board. And I think you guys... Should either add Duke or Count. That's P1, I Heart Oats. Oh, man. Can't handle anymore. That's what Trophy Lounge was like, you forgot patent pending. Yeah, patent pending. I was asking him, and I was like, oh, no, I don't think we're using that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we are. So after .com, it's patent pending. Oh, my God.
I love his name. Yeah, I saw a sticker yesterday on a product that said patent pending, and it made me laugh just thinking about Seth. I love it. 570-1053 is our phone number. Now we're getting some phone calls. P1 Detroit is on the line. What's up? What's going on? What's up, dude? I'm leaving for the Bahamas tonight, and since it's in the Caribbean, I want to know the name of that househouse. Maybe I can find it for you. Dude. Oh. Eddie went to St. Lucia. for his honeymoon, and he brought me back this habanero sauce. It was orange. And it was the hottest but tastiest sauce I think I've ever had in my life. I tell you what, will you do me a favor? Can I keep you on the line? And during the commercial break, I'm going to find out what it was called. And then I'm going to get that information to you on hold, and I'll pay you for it. I mean, it's just normal. It's like a case, man. Yeah, dude. Yeah, if you don't mind. If you don't mind. You know what they do is at the airport, you can buy stuff and have it shipped or sent with you or whatever. But they'll have it shipped for you. Dude, hey, P1 Detroit, I don't know if you're willing, but if you are, I would love to have you send some of that stuff back.
There are certain meals that I have at home, and it's kind of a bummer now because I can't use that sauce because there were certain meals that I had that I had to use that sauce. And it was so good and so hot, man. I mean, it brutalizes your mouth. It beats your mouth up. But I loved it. And so stay on hold, and I'll figure it out for you, okay? Okay. Hang on a minute. That's cool. P1. Rob is on the line. Are you there? Yeah, morning, Mike. Good morning, dude. Yeah, I've got a legitimate question for Sky. Oh, okay. It's a legitimate question, Sky, so you have to allow it. No, no, no. Yeah, yeah. I'm sure it's not. There's nothing wrong with that. Okay. Go ahead, sir. I was wondering, can she bring the chopper in for the 28-hour show? That was asked yesterday, and we just can't get a straight answer, which is really a bummer, I think. So frustrating. She's got to show up to work. Dude. I mean, that's how she arrives every day. Okay. Yeah, why would it be different, really? Yeah, yeah, why would it be different? She uses the Honky Kong 2 to get here every day. Every day. It's right out the window right there. Well, no, doesn't Ramsey take it back home? It's sitting right there. It's sitting right there. I think that Ramsey takes it home at the end of the day. That's hilarious. That's pretty self-explanatory, dude. Yep, I leave the motor running while we're on the air. Bye.
No, you don't, Sky. You wouldn't waste gas. That's not very green. Not at all. That is not green at all. Let's see. Lots of stuff happening here in San Diego County and all over the world and some big world news. Wait until I tell you. I'm not going to do it right now. But wait until I tell you who Street Scene has replaced the Black Crows with. Somebody good, I bet. Well, of course. Well, dude. This guy said it best off the air. She was like, well, listen, I mean, you got to replace him with somebody that, you know, if they're into the Black Crows. Right. You got to replace him with somebody that it's just a no-brainer. Hey, listen, if you like the Black Crows, you'll love dot, dot, dot. Yeah, exactly. You pay a pretty penny for that ticket to see the Black Crows, so they got to give you something, you know, comparable. Right.
You know how when you're on iTunes, you're listening to some music and it says, if you like them, you'll love this. Exactly. It's exactly like that, Mike. Yeah. The band that they picked to replace the Black Crows, I'm sure would come up in that category. Good. Now you're making me nervous. No. All of you fans of the Black Crows that paid money. to go to Street Scene to see the Black Crows, you're disappointed, no doubt about it. But you're not going to be wanting your money back or anything because, obviously, Street Scene got you a comparable band. We'll tell you who it is after the break. P1 Habanero is on the line. Hello. Mikey, I'm a first-time caller, a low-time listener. What's up, dude? Hey, what I'm going to do is I'm going to make a promise to you guys. Promises next week. I will come by your station and I will drop you off my hot sauce that I make with my own chilies. And you will love it because I know what you're talking about, that orange stuff, because I've been down to Central America and I've tasted that kind of stuff. And it's great. So I make my own. So you can go really, really hot yourself, huh? I grow the world's hottest chilies in the world out in East County. The world's hot.
I saw that. Now, have you been to India? Has it been certified by Old Man Baker? Yes. Because I don't know about that. Hey, Old Man Baker. Old Man Baker's here. Hey, Old Man Baker. Do you believe that this man can definitively come on the air and say that he has grown the hottest peppers in the world? Absolutely not. No way. Old man baker. And why not old man baker? Well, if you want to grow really hot chili peppers. Go ahead. Go ahead. Oh, gosh. Go ahead. Yikes. Oh, wow. You got to keep them under your armpits for five years. Five years? Go against the flavor and the heat count top. You got to keep the peppers under your armpits for five? The seeds. The seeds. Just wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. It was crazy enough when I thought you were saying the peppers, but you're saying, no, no, no. You remove the peppers, the seeds from the pepper, and you put those under your arm. Right. For five years. I once kept a pepper seed in my armpit for 12 years. And I gave it to a friend.
Yeah. His head exploded. It's so hot. That doesn't sound good. It's that hot. Well, but that's, yeah. Well, now I figured out. Yeah. Six years, and it's perfect. Oh, so no head exploded. I don't want to hurt any. Your tongue may bleed. Okay, I don't want that. But it's all right. Obvious question. How do you keep them there? Keep your arm down. He got you there, Mike. I didn't even think it's the obvious answer. Now don't you feel dumb, Mike. I feel stupid. Why did I not even go there? Well, listen, sir, I would like to try your hot sauce. I mean, I don't listen. There are ways to make hot sauce so excruciatingly hot that you can take no pleasure in eating it. Oh, that's exactly right, Mikey, because... When you grow exotic habaneros, they have such a great flavor. And if you know how to work with them, you always get a delicious flavor first, and then you get a little kick afterwards. You've got to know what to do with them. I like a lot of kick, but I will definitely try it. If you bring it down, I will definitely give your hot sauce a try. It sounds delicious. Oh, you'll love it. And you know what? It's for a good cause. I help out East County youth. That's cool. What do you do? Do you sell it? Yeah, I sell it on the side, and I do some other stuff.
You know, I tried to call the show the other week because you were talking about your tomatoes, and I grow all my chilies hydroponically, which is unheard of, and I could show you to do that with your tomatoes, and your tomatoes would just go up another level in flavor and everything. That's cool, man. Well, yeah, come down here next week, and I'd like to try your hot sauce. What do you call it? I call it refining fire. Refining fire. Love it. There it is. There it is. All right, dude, I'd like to try it, and come down here next week, will you? Hey, would you like to look at the site? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, give me your website. Okay, the first page is up at www.refiningfirechilis.com. How do you spell Chili's? D-H-I-L-E-S. Let's see. There it is. Real cool, dude. Hey, I appreciate it, bro. There's a picture of you right there on the front site. Yep. All right, bro. It should be up by the end of next week, and then next week I'll bring you guys a big thing of the sauce. Yeah. Dude, nice, man. This is a professional-looking site you've got going here, too. So that's cool. Yeah, you know what? The guy is doing it. It's a Christian guy in Colorado, and he's really blessed me because he knows where my heart is with the youth, so he's doing it for free. Oh, that's cool, man. That's really cool. I appreciate what you do, and I appreciate your chili, and I can't wait to taste it. You'll have it next week at the station. Thank you, brother. All right, take care. All right, we'll see you. Yeah, Sky can eat hot stuff, too. Mm-hmm.
Do you go the real hot habanero, like, you know, burn the, you know what I'm saying? Well, I enjoy the spice, but the boo enjoys things more mild, so we have a compromise in our house. I only get the really hot stuff when you bring it in, Mike. Let's see. Mikey, I have Force Unleashed, and it has not been turned off in my home for three days. Oh, wow. That's okay. That's right. Eddie loves it, too. Eddie gives it a thumbs up. Awesome. Mikey, my chick wants to take our son to Disneyland for his second birthday in November, but I think it might be too early. What do you think that signed P1 Bean? My kid is very smart. My son is really, really smart. His name is Jake and he's very smart boy, but I don't think he gets it. And so that's why I said I would rather take him.
to Disneyland next year when I think he probably gets it a little more unless, honey, you want to go to Disneyland and you want to see it real bad and go there. If that's the case, then we could go. I'll make a trip for that because I don't think he'll get it right now. In fact, it might be a little overwhelming, all the stuff and what's going on, but I think that around three, they're kind of getting it a little bit more and, you know. Yeah, because kids at that age, it's funny. Like, they go from being deathly afraid of, like, mascot-type creatures to being completely in love with them in a span of a year or so. That's right. That's right. So, yeah. Let's see. I got to take a break. Mikey, I need to correct you. Sky does not always take the Honky Kong 2 to work. Remember the morning that she killed the possum? She was driving the beach car. Oh, okay. That is P1 Ryan there that was writing in with that. How about that? Get it. Get it. Our text number, 35253. Our phone number, 570-1053. This morning on the show, this is a gigantic show. There's no two ways about it. First of all, the battle of the sexes.
is coming up this morning. And when I say the battle of the sexes, you better be listening. And the reason that you better be listening is, might the battle of the sexes be coming to its zenith? Will the battle of the sexes be paying off very soon? You're going to have to listen and find out. 7 o'clock hour, we are announcing the movies for the 28-hour show. Don't go anywhere. By the way, when we come back after this break, I'll tell you who the Black Crows have been replaced with. What's next?
The number today, I said, hello, is Joey there? And a woman answered. She said, yes, yes, he is. I said, can I speak to him, please? She said, no, he can't talk right now. He's only two months old. I said, all right, I had a dream. I had a dream. I had a dream that all the babies prevented by the pill showed up. They were mad. Calls every morning that people pick on Sky or Ashley or giving Eddie or Sean stuff. Every one of you are great. Thank you. The Mikey Show continues on The Rock. I've got a foggy ride in our hands here this morning, a little bit more than it has been the last couple of days, so maybe give yourself a little extra time you may need it. We've got a couple of things going on. South 15, you will find the slow ride developing out of Escondido right now from the 78 off and on already down to Beor Rancho Parkway. Another brief delay through Carmel Mountain Ranch. Farther south, though, watch out for tow trucks putting a car on the hook that hit a deer here just before the 52 as you head in towards Tierra Santa. That's in the far left lane, so be careful there and stay to the right. Rest of our freeways, move and run along for a good-looking ride. We've got no major problems out of town in Orange County, Riverside. And the border wait is still about an hour and a half in some places, in some lanes of San Jose. I'm Rick Lawrence on Rock 105.3.

Five different reality show hosts will be sharing the hosting duties for Sunday night's Emmy Awards. Anybody else getting a little nervous about this? LT doesn't practice again yesterday. Could be in jeopardy for playing on Monday. That's not a good sign. Not good at all. You know me. I'm always of the mindset of like, can we just let people get real healthy so we have them for the long term? And then, you know, instead of putting them back out there, making it worse. What if he plays Monday on a hurt toe? Then it's real bad. But then Antonio Gates, Eddie, didn't it take him forever to fix that toe up and get that toe going? Two different injuries. That's the only difference. LT just has like a jammed toe, which still I'm sure hurts. But Antonio Gates dislocated his toe. So that one took surgery and had a lot more recovery time. But LT still needs it. He still needs a healthy toe to do the things that he does. For sure. But, I mean, we're looking at a possible 0-3 start to a season. I think he'll probably be out there. Mm-hmm. This text message says, love, Ayo. You guys need a black guy on the show. That's P1 Thug Nasty. Ayo, can you read the news? Oh, wow. That's, hey, listen. It's worth an audition. No, no, no. I think that there should be a representative from the African-American community is what I'm saying. Wow. Okay.
Two days in a row. Guys, that could be yours. Yes. All yours. Before we went to break, we said, yeah, listen, street scene, big deal here in San Diego. Headliner, Saturday night, Black Crows. And then just days before street scene's about to come to town, the Black Crows say, sorry, we changed our minds. One of us is sick. Can't make it. We're ill. And so Street Scene was frantic, and they went out. They were trying to find somebody to replace their big headliner. So, Skye, who will be playing instead of the Black Crows? Saturday night, the headliner for Street Scene. Wait. You guys didn't hear me. I said Devo. Devo? Wait. Yeah, Devo. Devo. They just played.
At the fairground. For free, Rob. Yeah. For free, Eddie? Yeah. They played the racetrack for free. What? Yep. Can I ask you guys, okay, this is a really serious question. I'm not saying this to be sarcastic. I mean this as a genuine question. Yes, Mike. If you are, I want you to measure your frustration slash anger level, okay? And tell me which is more. Are you more angry slash frustrated if Street Scene says we couldn't find a band to replace the Black Crows, we're very sorry? Or we found a band to replace the Black Crows. It's Devo. Which one are you more upset about? I think I'm more upset about the Devo. Yeah. I think that's more upsetting to me. I think I'm more upset about the Devo. Yeah. I think we all are. Yeah. And I haven't read anything anywhere about, like, ticket refunds or anything. Like, I'm on their website right now. Like, I mean, if you bought, what, you pay? Like $100. Well, $65 for just a one-day pass. Wow. Or $100 if you got the two-day pass.
And if Black Crows was part of your decision making to buy that ticket. Couldn't they find like the spin doctors or something? Like somebody besides, right? Isn't there someone around? Where's the blues traveler? I would take that in a heartbeat over Devo. Yeah, I mean, I think that there are some Black Crows. Okay, what are the Black Crows? They're like a kind of a retro. Southern rock. Southern rock type band. Okay, what if they said. Bare naked ladies. No. Joe, couldn't you call like an American Idol guy that, you know, not like a Daughtry or anybody like that, but like a Bo Bice. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I mean, that is a bigger name than Devo. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, and especially like, especially the American Idol kids because all of those new acts are dying for exposure. Sure. What about a young act that's, what about the today version of the Black Crows? Like Kid Rock? No, like the retro Southern Rock. Three Doors Down. Yeah. Three Doors Down will work. Wolf Mother. Oh. I'll take any of it over Devo. Yeah, Wolf Mother's got that sort of Southern Rock, you know, or Classic Rock kind of sound to them. Devo. Devo. Oh, man.
That is going to be a party down there. Whip it good. Hey, the good news is I will almost be willing to bet for sure they'll be wearing their red cone hats and everything. Oh, definitely will be. Because that would be a bummer, right? If Devo came to play and they didn't wear their red cone hats and everything. And I'm starting to riot. That's where we draw the line. We were upset about this, but then no hats. Forget this. Now they're men without hats. Oh, wait. They would be better than Bebo. Yes. Wow. So there it is, folks. Oh, man. There is your replacement. Great. Let's see. David Blaine's getting ready for his next stunt. Starts on Monday. Yeah. Everybody excited and ready? Not nearly as excited as he is. Wait, what? David, what was that? I'm really excited. I don't know the stunt I'm going to be doing. Wow. You don't sound very excited. I just talk like this, but I'm actually really excited about what I do. Oh. It doesn't seem like it. Look at this card in my head. Okay. Wow. Okay. Check this out. Look at my feet. I would be excited if you were excited. Yeah. I'm going to show you something. Watch my head disappear. I don't have a head. It's just an arm. Oh, that's... I'm kind of lulled to sleep with this. Yeah, your monotone voice is kind of working a spell on me right now.
Your head never does that. Yeah, you still have a head. Nothing happened right there. What's wrong with this thing? No, it's right there. It's still on my head. Yeah, I still have it. I see it. My head's still on my head. Well, no, no, no. You're talking. I mean, if it was gone, we wouldn't be able to hear you talk. So on Monday, David Blaine will start to hang upside down above Central Park for 60 hours. So he started practicing. He has stopped eating. How do you practice? Well, he said he's practiced, you know, hanging upside down. I don't know. Like in his hallway on one of those, you know, those bars. Gravity boots. Yes, gravity boots in his hallway. What an idiot. Oh, wow. So he says he stopped eating about a week ago. Why? Why? Well, he doesn't want to have to go number two while he's up there, so he's completely emptying his body. I think that would be a cooler trick if he did. Much more interesting. Yeah, and as far as the liquids, because, you know, you have to keep liquids going. He'll have a catheter in it. No, no, no, no.
Upside down. Yeah. 60 some hours. 60 hours. 60 hours. And what, you know, I thought there was a whole thing about like the blood rushing to your brain and all that stuff. Yeah. You know, what it basically, all his, you know, those big stunts that he does, they kind of remind me like of I shouldn't be alive. Like it's a situation. He puts himself in a situation. Like what if you were, yeah, yeah, yeah. And this time it's, what if you were stuck in a tree and you were upside down and you had to be there for 60 hours? Would you live? And that's what happens. He lives. Great. Mikey, did you know that today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day? That's P1 Rock. I did not. Oh. So I guess I'll start to do that. Matey. Matey. Mikey, isn't Ashley technically the black person on the show? That's being a big Mike. That is true. Ashley has .01% African-American blood. Yeah, I do. We do not deny her heritage. Yeah, she did genealogy, and she found that out. I'm representing. Yeah, she's representing. Mikey Devo over Wally World? What is up? Let's be one Wally World rules.
Wally World would be dynamite. It'd rock that stage. If the guy that called in about the hot sauce is still listening, because he hung up, which doesn't make me feel that confident that you're going to be able to pull this off, bro, but if you still want to, we found the name of the hot sauce. I am an official endorser of AMCO, and the reason is because I've been down there with a little yellow legal pad writing down notes. Before I ever accepted the offer to become an endorser for them. Because I wanted to make sure that P1s were going to be getting a good deal when they went in there. And my family uses Amco. My neighbor uses Amco. And I use Amco. If your check engine light is on, Amco will tell you why it's on for free. And if any additional diagnosis is required, you just mention that you're a P1. And you're going to get 10% off on all repairs.
And they do all kinds of stuff down there at Amco. They do transmissions and oil changes and brakes and tune-ups and cooling systems. And they don't want to fix what isn't broken. That's a really cool and important thing. If you go to the dealership with your car, when you've got something wrong with that transmission, or when something's up with your brakes or your cooling system, a lot of times what they do is they say, yeah, we'll replace it for you. Amco don't want to do that. They just want to fix it. And you don't need an appointment. Amco is double A. Beep, beep. M-C-O. It's the Rock 105.3. Assault Assault. Connected by Cricket Wireless. I mean, duh, you heard us talking about it. Of course I've heard of the snot rocket. And you're right, it's pretty gross. Especially when the snooter doesn't clear the chamber. Yes, that is true. Yuck. But yeah, here's the deal, Lucille. Most guys do this, as Mikey said. It's called going green.
Why waste a perfectly good Kleenex where you can just blow your nose using Mother Earth? Who sings Tough Guys? Oh, that's Ario Speedwagon. Ario Speedwagon. Nice. Another acceptable replacement for the Black Crow. That would be huge. Yeah. Welcome back. It's 7.03. A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of an arsonist accused of starting at least 10 fires in Little Italy. Heads up, fantasy footballers. The Vikings' Adrian Peterson could miss Sunday's game with a sore hamstring. Oh, no. This text message says, Mikey, are you kidding me? Was Oingo Boingo busy? That's P1 Padawan.

They're replacing the Black Crows with Devo. People are going to riot downtown. SDPD better get ready with the SWAT team. That's P1J Rasta. There it is. Let's see. 570-1053 is our phone number, and our text number is 35253. So give us a call. You can do that at the beginning and end of every show, but every once in a while I just say, ah, we got open phones, especially today because it's a Friday. So there it is. The P1 that came in the other day. Oh, P1 Woobie. She says that she believes she should be the official black girl of the Mikey show. Yeah, this is tough. Oh, no. That's right. Wrong answer. This is tough. You think you should be, but you won't be. P1 Whoopi. She's awesome. She came into the studio. Whoopi's legit. We love Whoopi. Whoopi's a huge P1. Oh, yeah. I got it. I know how we'll do it. We'll just see who knows more about the Mikey show. We'll do a little trivia. That should be the official. That's fair. You know what I'm saying? That's fair. I'm going to have to study, obviously. I mean... Hey, speaking of Chantel having to study, what about if we...
So check this out, Chantel. Yes. And check this out, P1s. We've been doing the Battle of the Sexes all summer long. In fact, Battle of the Sexes actually started a little bit earlier in the year. We've been doing it for a long time. And it's a competition. It's a competition between Team Awesome, the guys, whom Eddie is team captain of. Oh! We got Eddie, Boston, Rob, and Sean on Team Awesome. And then there is the girls. Team Captain Chantel. They're known as Team Sass. And Team Sass consists of Chantel, Ashley, and Sky. S-A-S. S-A-S. Chantel, Ashley, and Sky. Team Sass. Now. That don't make sense, though. Now, we've been doing this for a very long time.
There needs to be a payoff. No, we're good. I agree with you. There needs to be a payoff. I think we can just do this forever. Yeah. I think that... What's the point of that? Just saying. Sky, I kind of agree with you, so let's end it two weeks from now. Wait. No. Is what that is. Well, what we're going to do is, on the 28-hour show, we are going to pay off the bet. You know the 28-hour show is special. So why not do this? Man, who's going to win? Yeah. Well, it's real hard to figure this one out because... I'll take it down a notch. It's got to be neck and neck right now, right? Today's the deciding one? Maybe. In fact, the girls have been mathematically eliminated. You're kidding me. No, that's not true. Yes, they have been. Oh, so today's for funsies. That takes some of the pressure off. Bragging rights. You know it. Little bragging rights. Yuck.
And so what we're going to do. I don't want to talk about it. Yeah. What we're going to do. Don't be that way. Is we're going to have the girls come out on a stage. What? They're going to come out on a stage in front of all P1s. Eddie, would you like to? Should we say now? I would love to. Yeah, go ahead. Yes. They are going to serve Team Awesome hot wings in Hooters outfits. Nice. No, wait. I always wanted to try on a Hooters outfit. You're awesome. Well, there you go. Ashley's excited. I have a question. Ashley's all in. I have a question. Chantel already works there. Yeah, go ahead. That is not true. I do not. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Why is there something bad with who that is? It's a family establishment. Go ahead, Ashley. Are we allowed to eat some of the hot wings, too, while passing them out to you guys? Can you imagine how sexy she'd look with all that hot sauce around her face? I can't stop eating. One for me, one for you.
I'm so happy. I am not happy. What do you mean? Skye, you look great in the Hooters. Okay, I don't think we can. It's going to be fantastic. Well, so does Chantel. So does that. We're going to look great. I don't know about this. Some of us are old. This is going to happen. Right here at the radio station during the 28-hour show outside on a big, giant stage. Yes. Oh, kill me now. That's right. Eddie will be served along with your teammates, Boston Rob and Sean. Eddie's opening his mouth, anxiously awaiting. And so it'll be great. Rob wants to be served like a bird. That's right. I don't know how to do that. I want someone to chew it for me. That is so gross. I'll be graditating. I'm lazy. I'm fine with that. Thank you. Otherwise, he'll starve. Here comes the food. Thank you, Sean. Sean. Sean. Sean. Not necessary to really illustrate it in that way. I think we got it. I think we got it. All right. Well, Eddie.
Maybe the guys should start today? Yeah, we started. You guys started first last time. We'll start first this time. I think I'm going to start. Okay. This sounds good. Eddie's going to kick it off. style due to his role on Project Runway. That's Tim Gunn, Mike. That is correct, Eddie. Chantel's looking at Eddie right now with a look of hate. I mean, it's just like, can't stand this guy. Chantel, who will kick off things for Team Sass? I like it. Great choice. I like it, Chantel. Good job. Ashley is in 100% agreement with that choice. You're my woman. I haven't heard that. She's giving you two thumbs up right now. You're my woman. Wow. And she's saying that old hackneyed phrase, you're my woman. Yeah. Well, yeah. You hear that all the time. That's right. She's my mama. Skye. Yes. Come on, Skye. Move. Skye, what actor portrayed boxer Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull?
Oh, man. Sky's expression didn't change for just a moment, but then it turned into a furrowed brow and a look that says, what's Jake LaMotta? Yeah. Wrong game. Raging Bull, never seen it. What is that? I don't even really know nothing about it. Raging Bull. This could be the easiest question ever asked. Raging Bull. It's Raging Bull. Yeah. I don't know what that is. Is that a movie? I don't know anything about that. Wow. Chantel just asked if that was a movie. Scaring me. I'm over this. It is a movie. Oh. Well, I have a guess. Oh, good. But I think I'm thinking of a different movie. But I'm going to say Kevin Costner. Correct. What movie are you thinking about? In the heck? He's never been a boss, sir. Dances with wolves? It said boxer. Isn't there a movie with the word bull in it? No, in Bull Durham. And Kevin Costner's on the front of the... Bull Durham. Oh, that's Bull Durham? Bull Durham. Different movie. You are a gem. You are the worst. You are a gem. I said it was a guess and I didn't know and I've never seen the movie. No wonder you guys lost. I'm a fan of that guess. Raging Bull. I think it's called blush, but I'm not sure. That's incorrect. What is it? It's rouge. Like Mulan? Yes, exactly like Mulan. What is blush? I don't know. I think they're the same thing. So I win. You got a point.

I'm going London. I love the Chargers. I do like football. It's not my life, but I do love football. And you're still upset. Listen, Chantel, smack him.
Chantel, who was the first LT? I'm thinking. Who was the first LT? I know the question. Thanks. I'm trying to think. Oh, wow. Just trying to help you out here, lady. Wow. You never help me out. You're always on the boy's side every week. LaDania Thomason is known as LT. Who was the first LT? Liv Tyler. That's an actress. I love football. All right, Eddie. We get it. Look at her over there. She's thinking so hard. It's in there somewhere. It's in there. It's in there. We'll just sit here in silence. It's nowhere to be found, but it's in there. It doesn't matter, Chantal. Yeah, whatever, our lady. Do you have pride, women? Nah, we don't care. Whatever. For this game, you guys already won. The transcript says, don't you have pride, women? And then the next line is, no, we don't care. Wow. Who did he play for? Uh-oh. He played for the New York Giants. Don't make her mad.
Rob! Oh, no. Rob's saying that, by the way, leaning back in his chair with his hands behind his head. Having a great time, Mike. No pressure. I could go for some jigging wings. I don't know. Name two of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis' children. Two of the three. Yes, Sean. Rumor. That's one. What? Filet. We get that point. Congrats. Sorry, Sean. Sorry. But that is only one, Sean. It's not filet? No, it's not filet. Who says so? What? There's rumor, and then there is scout.
And Tallulah. Oh. Tallulah. Child abuse. Oh, man. Okay. Are you ready? Ashley. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Go ahead. Come on, Ashley. Ashley, come on. You're the best. Keep it quick. Let's go. Is it Ashley? Wait a minute. What? Is Ashley? Yeah, it's Ashley. Ashley's up, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's get this over with. Don't give a rip. Don't care. Oh, my. Man. Come on, people. Ashley, your multiple choice question is, what automaker produces the Cayman? Is it A, Lamborghini, B, Audi, or C, Porsche? Can you spell Cayman, please? Yes, I can. Can't you have origin? Cayman is spelled C-A-Y. M-A-N. Can you use it in a sentence, please? Never heard of it. I'm going to go with my gut and say Audi. Ashley, that is incorrect. No, you have an Audi. The answer is C. Was it A, Diane Keaton, B, Marcia Gray Harden, or C, Bette Midler? Okay. Well, Bette Midler, Diane Keaton, and I believe Goldie Hawn starred in the movie. So that means that the B is out. And that was trying to trick me because I always pick B. So, that sounds like a weird name, so I'm going to go with Bette Midler. That is incorrect. Oh. Diane Keaton. It was Diane Keaton. It was 50-50. Who cares, really? Right? Don't matter. Can you stop saying that, please? What do you mean? Next up is Sky. Oh. Come on, O. Come on, O. My name's not O. Sky. Yes. Well, I mean, the fact that two young white dudes driving a van with a weird-looking table was going through customs may have been the tip-off. Well, you can't see the table, though, because it's in the van. You just see a weird-looking van. Hey, Mikey. Neither one of us are white. Oh, really? What's your nationality? I'm Filipino. Filipino dude. What about the guy that you were with? He was Japanese.
Well, you guys are going to stand out no matter what. A couple of Asian dudes in a van. That's what I'm talking about. That's what just happened between Team Awesome and Team Sass. They dropped a bomb on him. Eddie's doing a little rope for Chantel. Very, very well done. Oh, yeah. Welcome back. It is 749. The stock market rallied late yesterday because of talk that the federal government has a plan to rescue banks from debt. Okay, got four matches going on in the Ryder Cup right now. And the U.S. leads in two and the Europeans lead in two. Mikey, why don't you guys just let the girls answer as a team instead of individual. I mean, they might have a better chance.
That's from P1 Team. Sass don't have a chance. Welcome back. So, Sean, you got to tell the story about your neighbors. You guys know that Sean has had some dispute with his neighbors. And it's been a while. I mean, he's been having this kind of war with the neighbors for a while. And something just happened. And he's going to tell us about it. Yeah, like yet again, it's like a clash of the cultures. They're just kind of in a different they're in a different world and they don't bother to, you know, like read any of the documentation from the HOA and understand what it means to live in a place where.
You have an HOA, and there are certain things that you can and cannot do, and they continually break them. And every time we turn them in, there's some retaliation. They poured acid on my car. It's a long list of bad blood. And yet again, like the other day, my wife and I are in the backyard, and all of a sudden we hear these strange noises coming from the other side of the fence. Well, they're right next to us. And then our property backs up to a wildlife preserve. I guess the city of San Jose found out that there's like some butterflies out there or whatever. And so you can't go out there now. You can't go out there. You can't disturb it. There's butterflies out there. Yeah, I know. It's ridiculous. So, you know, you're not allowed to even set foot on the preserve. In fact, they put up signage that says if you're found out there, you could be arrested. Oh, wow. Wow. You know, we hear all this commotion, and we look out onto the preserve, and this guy from next door is out in the preserve with a pair of electric hedge trimmers. Oh, my gosh. And he is mowing down the vegetation.
On the other side of his fence in the preserve. That is so illegal. You can't do that. And I'm looking at this. I can't even, like, fathom why he would even be doing it. Because it's not like it's blocking something. Like, there's no view or anything like that. And the stuff that he's knocking down, it's only a couple feet high. So I'm just, I'm looking at this. I'm completely confused. And there's signs up, right? Dude, there's signs all over the place. I mean, everybody knows it. Right. And it's been that way for years now. So anyway, I'll admit it. I hate them. I hate every last one of them. And I wish they would leave. How do you really feel? I would love to make their lives such a living hell that they would move out. So thinking quickly, I run upstairs. I grab my video camera. And there's a certain place in our house where we can look out from the upstairs and look into the preserve. And so, dude, I turn on that video camera. I videotaped everything he did. No way. He even got a close-up on his face. So if he tries to say anything, which he's done before.
Because I've had video of him smoking before, and they said, oh, we can't see his face. His face is obscured. And that guy goes, oh, I don't smoke. Nobody in our house smokes. Bull crap, you all smoke. So this time, Mike, I got a close-up on his face, and he's going down. So where will he go? Where will you do with the video? Well. First thing I did was I sent an email to the head of the HOA, which I'm going out for your job, dude, so you better watch out. I sent an email to the head of the HOA, and I told him exactly what happened. I told him I have video evidence to back it up. So when he asked for it... I'm going to encode it. I'm going to put it on my laptop, and I'm going to email it to him. He's crazy. It's Shawnee, oh boy. He's out of his gourd. And you know what? They can all eat it, man, because you're not supposed to be out there. Don't mess with me. I'm coming for all you people. I got my eye on all of you. Yeah, you do, Shawnee. Wow. Oh, my gosh. That's not ridiculous. As you can see, Shawnee, oh boy, he gets a little.
riled up I'm tired of people flaunting the rules they're there for a reason they're there to protect us Protect the butterflies, whatever. But they are rules nonetheless. Sounds like he didn't really care about them. Some of them are a little bit ridiculous. But they are rules and they should be enforced. And I'm tired of these people at the HOA not enforcing the rules, taking everything out they possibly can. I'm sick of it. I want it done. I want it taken care of. I don't want these people screwing around and messing up the whole place. No, I sympathize, Sean. I'm with you, Sean. Knock that off. We're finally getting him to talk. It was somebody in the bleachers, I think. I feel you, Sean. Don't let him discourage you. Shawnee, I know it'll make you feel better. I have a butterfly. Shut up. Ride a cowboy. No, I don't think that's the name of that song, Eddie. Save a butterfly, ride a cowboy. I don't think that's it. Are you sure? Uh-uh.
How would you guys like for me to announce the movies that we're going to be watching? Let's do this. Come on, everybody. Look at this. The P1s in the studio are so, they're going nuts. They can't wait to hear what this is going to be. What two movies will the Mikey Show be watching for the 28-hour show now? First of all, every year we do something called the 28-Hour Show. We go on the air for 28 straight hours. No music, no commercials for 28 straight hours. It is just the Mikey Show on the radio and it's a marathon. It is covered by the news every year. We do it. We raise money for Children's Hospital and it's pretty cool. We are loopy by the end of it and it is a very trying experience. At 10 o'clock at night on the 28-Hour Show, We watch a movie. That movie ends, we take a small little break, and then we watch another movie. If you've never heard of the TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000, it's just like that. What we do is we watch the movie and we make fun of it. It's hysterical. And it's always, you know, a movie that takes itself maybe a little seriously, but that has a very high level of camp and cheesiness.
Our favorite of all time was when we did The Karate Kid. My favorite ever. I mean, it was just, it was beautiful. It had everything you could want. Right, yeah. It took itself seriously, and it had a lot of mullets. I gotta tell you, I really enjoyed Top Gun last year. Top Gun is great. Takes itself very, very seriously. Very high level of camp, and we made some pretty good jokes. Genius. Now, the reason that it is so important that we make this announcement and tell people what two movies we're going to be watching is because these movies sell out in the San Diego area and they rent out in the San Diego area. So when we make these announcements, you better be getting yourself the blockbuster. You better be Netflixing. You better be going somewhere to maybe go to Fry's or Best Buy or whatever and buy the movies or whatever. Maybe you already own them. You should. Yeah. Ladies and gentlemen. Oh, no. The first movie that we will be watching is Rocky III. Oh, yeah. Rubber Lang. Oh, yeah. Mr. T. Burgess Meredith. Sylvester Stallone. Come on. It's heyday. Oh, dude. Don't forget Apollo Creed. Rocky III.
Think any jokes will be made during that movie? I don't know. I can't think of none. Yeah. It's a great movie. Oh, dude. Maybe, bye. It's going to be fantastic. I love it. So money. So that is the first movie. Now, the second movie. Come on, Mike. Thought about it for a long time. Yeah. We said, what is a movie that is full of high drama? What is a movie that is not to be joked about? What is a movie whose storyline is so serious? Compelling. Rich. Yes. Ladies and gentlemen, a little after midnight, a little after midnight on the 28-hour show, we invite you all to join us on about a three-hour voyage. A journey. A journey of a lifetime. A journey of a lifetime. Ladies and gentlemen, we invite you to watch with us the movie. Titanic. No. I saw it three times in theater. This is going to be my first time. Are you serious? You've never seen Titanic? Dude. It's the biggest movie. It's the biggest grossing movie of all time. Wow, Rob's really a jerk. It made worldwide. I'm kind of proud of him, actually. Worldwide, I believe it made $1 million. Not that much. Oh, my.
Yeah, you think any jokes will be made when Jack is just loving? Jack! This way, Rose! Is that Ashley doing? No, that's clips from the movie. Oh, it is? Yeah, I'm playing clips from the movie. You can repeat the whole movie. You guys will see. It's all they do. It's fantastic. I don't know what she's saying. It's all they do. Folks. And we're not going to judge people who cry at the end, right? No, of course not. Because that wouldn't be cool. Yeah, no jokes will be made then either. You going to be there, Chantel? Yes, and I was just doing like this to Rob. You're going to cry. Nice. How hilarious would it be if it actually gets to him? I cried, just don't laugh. All right. Done. It got to me. Did it really? Oh, man. I saw that movie on a date. I saw that movie on a date. Yeah, to cry. I think first date. A first date? Yeah, I think so. Isn't it like three hours or something? Yeah, yeah. I can't remember if it was this girl Jen or if it was this girl Tracy, but I wanted to cry and I had to think of other stuff, you know, because it's so sad at the end. I will never forget going to see that movie in the theater and about two hours in having to go to the restroom and go and think to myself, well, it's going to end any minute.
And then all the water coming, crashing into the boat. Oh, man. And I'm like, oh, okay. Well, this is the only part that's actually kind of cool, seeing that ship sink. And I was done. I've never had to go to the bathroom so bad in my life. And did you say you were on a date? Were you on a date now? I'm sure I had to have been with a girl. That's the way I went to it. You and your mother-in-law, Tim, went to see it together. V-dub. Kiss fight. That's actually where I met Lou Bush. Was he taken? So, dude, dude, did you, so as soon as you got out of there, were you just like running? I think I finally had to go. You left? Well, I had to get up and use the bathroom. I was dying. Oh, dude. What did you miss? Do you know what you missed? I think they survived, right? No, they didn't. So that means you don't know how it ended. Everybody survives. It means you don't know how it ended. That's pretty cool. I can't wait for Titanic 2. Oh, man. The sequel. Mikey's show. Hello. Hi. This is P1 Pedicure, and I'd like to talk to Mikey about this. You're on the air, Pedicure. Oh, hello. Hello. Hi. My son goes to the Costa Canyon High School, and he is a freshman. And he went up yesterday for a game. Excuse me, I'm in the sauna. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Hey, listen, I just want to say.
I took a live phone call, what they call in the business a hot call. And the reason is because I figured that everybody just heard the announcement that we're going to be doing these two movies of Rocky III and Titanic on the 28-hour show. I figured that's why everybody was calling. 570-1053 if you want to call in about it. But I have no idea, and this woman is calling from a sauna right now. Well, it's an infrared sauna, so I can sit in here with my cell phone. Those are so sick. An infrared sauna? Bathhouse, jacuzzi club, they're all the same. Shut up, Rob. What's an infrared sauna, ma'am? An infrared sauna is actually a dry sauna, and it detoxes your body and heals from your body inside out. So you start sweating in there, right? Yes. And you don't have any, like, hot rocks and steam in the room? No, it's a dry sauna. Oh, who wants that? I mean, part of the experience of a sauna. No, it is incredible. It's really cool. Or a Turkish bathhouse. Yes. Do you own one? Yes, it's at the house. Really? Yes, I go on it every day. Okay. What were you calling about?
Okay, sorry, but I was just, I was so pissed off about the Charger game. And my son is a freshman at LCC, La Costa Canyon. You said that. And he went up yesterday to Orange County and played Orange County, which they are not even in our district. But this team up there, they recruit kids from all over. And he went up there and there was like a seven-foot center that was doing the face mask. And they have like a 90-year-old ref that wasn't calling anything. And I was calling to see where do you draw the line with this, with the kids. Oh, what do you mean? What I'm saying is recruiting. I mean, the kids around here, everybody gets to play. Yeah, I guess that's not fair, right? I don't think it's fair at all. They're ninth graders. Well, what do you think can be done about it? Well, first of all, I don't think we should be playing people like that because they're up in Orange County. Yeah, I agree with you. Listen, I'm going to tell you something. I agree with you. However, some people may find it hard to get behind the cause of a woman sitting in her expensive infrared sauna. Now, listen, now, I may be wrong.
Up there in La Costa County country. Yeah. Not La Costa Canyon. Yeah. And sorry, I'm in the infrared sauna. It's a little warm in here. But dry. But dry. Not wet like all those poor people. But anyway. Hang on, let me move my silk pillow. No, listen, I don't know, ma'am. I don't know. I mean, it does sound like it's terrible that they're taking the recruits and all that, and then they're probably beating up on all the other teams. But, you know, I'd see how you feel. Listen, see how you feel after the sauna. It'll help. It heals from the inside out. You know what I mean? Like when you get out of the infrared sauna. Well, first of all, first of all, go into your racket club room and just get your aggression out. No, lady, I don't know, ma'am. I do think it's unfair. And, you know, I hope that maybe you will kind of take it up as your cause and you're getting the word out. And that's the first step. OK, thanks a lot, you guys. You're very welcome. You can text us.
35253 is the text number. The phone number is 570-1053. And don't go anywhere. I got to read you this email because, you know, this email is about kids playing sports as well. What do you think about rewarding your kid with money when they play sports? We'll be back. What's a P1? P1 is someone that turns down their radio, they get to the point, they don't cuss, and they listen to the Mikey Show exclusively. That is correct. Home of the P1 Army. The Mikey Show. Better mileage tips presented by Chevron. How fast are you going right now? Really? That fast? So what's your hurry? Did you know that if you slowed down just a little, you'd get better mileage? It's true. If you drove 55 miles per hour on the highway instead of 65 miles per hour, you could go about 30 to 60 more miles on a tank of gas. It's like the story of the tortoise and the hare.
You know, slow and steady wins the race. And that also applies to city driving. When you're stopped at a traffic light and it turns green, avoid the jackrabbit start. Don't punch the gas. It's not a race. Just accelerate smoothly and gradually. And let's face it, you'll catch up to those other cars at the next light anyway. So remember, a heavy foot equals a light gas tank. And that's another great way to get the most out of your Chevron with Tecron. Learn more mileage tips by visiting chevronwithtecron.com. Catalite presents Bad Habit Confessions. I'm still in the busy, in the middle of a busy commute rather. As you come out of the South Bay, things aren't too bad, though. They are improving a little bit here in this 805 northbound. A little tight from Market Street up to the 15. Let you go for a good long stretch, but get you again out of Kearney Mesa. There's an accident there. Balboa's throwing your ride in the approach there. And then once you get past Governor Drive, you're finally back up to speed there. The northbound 5 is also tight approaching the bridge, and that's a slow ride through the downtown S-curve. And because of that busy 5 there, that's keeping the 805 a little bit tight here.
from the 15 freeway all the way into downtown. The West 8 ride this morning, not too bad at all. A little slow traffic around the 805 out towards Mission Center Road here in Mission Valley. Good to go, though, on the westbound 52. That's looking nice out of Santee up over the summit. South 15, that's a bit of a tight one, though, still from the 78s down to Vio Rancho Parkway. Reduced speeds again towards Carmel Mountain Ranch. Traveling west on that 56, that's jammed up now from Camino del Sur to the 5 connector. Street scene organizers announced yesterday that the band Devo will replace the Black Crows as the headliner for Saturday night. Well, do you guys remember I told you a couple weeks ago how those two rookies were found smoking pot in their room? Yeah. Had girls in there.
Well, Miami Heat rookie Michael Beasley, who was one of the top rookies drafted, I think he was drafted number two overall, apparently was involved in that as well. There was a little controversy, a little hush-hush going on, and he was fined 50 grand for being involved in that. Really? Yeah. Wow, man. Somehow his name was left out when we heard about it. That's weird. That's interesting. Now it's coming out in the wash. Let's see. This text message says, hey, Mikey, what is the girls' record against the guys? I've lost track, and I don't know what it is. I don't think it really matters. It matters at this point. P1 Oreo says the girls got no chance. Eddie, this text message is for you. It says, Eddie, is LT a good fantasy play this week? That's P1. Pipe wrench. Well, it's really going to be a tough call. You're going to have to wait until the last minute, you know, Saturday, maybe even Sunday morning. Keep checking the reports, seeing how he does. If he doesn't practice today, I would say probably not. He's probably not a good option. You know, hopefully you have a decent backup because that's a rough one. He probably was drafted number one overall. That would suck not to have him play. You can listen to the fantasy football show. You guys do that on Sunday morning. We'll be on Monday because the Chargers game is Monday. So we're going to be on Monday afternoon. Oh, really? Yeah. That's cool.
I don't know if that makes any sense because most fantasy games will already be over. That's true. Yeah, that's true. What can you do? You guys can do the fantasy show for anybody that has players going in that particular game. The Jets and Chargers. There you go. Hey, Mikey, did you know that there's a nude scene in Titanic? How are you going to handle that? That's P1 Nudist. That's right, because he knows I don't look at anybody naked unless their name's Rebecca. I guess I'll have Eddie cover my eyes. I'll stand behind you. That's right. Yeah, like we're on the bow of the ship and I'll put my arms out. I'll just cover your eyes. Yeah, and you can cover my eyes. You're really, really cute. This one says, Mikey, I was just saying to myself, please say Titanic, please say Titanic, please say Titanic. Thank you guys so much. That's P1 White Rabbit. How about that? Awesome. There you go. So, yeah, the two movies that we'll be doing on the 28-hour show are Rocky III and Titanic. Thank you to Pizzicato. Oh, yummy. Pizzicato. Pizzicato. Spaghetti and meatballs. Spaghetti. All right. Pepperoni. Hey, a manicotti. Hey, Mario.
She Italian? Okay. As long as you say it Italian, I guess it doesn't matter. Ben Vereen. Pizzacato is located at 252 North El Camino Real. And yeah, man, they do catering. You give them 24 hours notice, they'll do it up for you. Okay. Gourmet pizza by the slice, man. It's really good pizza, man. Pizzacato. Good stuff. And we want to say thank you to them for catering the Mikey show today on Fridays. We have it catered because we have listeners in the studio. Pretty cool. And yeah, yeah, yeah. Where did I leave off? What did I say that we needed to do when we came back? Oh, the email. Yes. Break it off proper. Let's read this sucker. So where are you on this? Mikey, is it wrong for me to pay my son for every goal he makes? I've been doing it since he started playing soccer and I won't tell parents anymore because of the weird vibes I get when they find out he gets paid. I want to know what you think about paying a kid.
For scoring goals. He now is one of the best players on the team. So we had to lower the price per goal. Now he gets five bucks for every goal he makes. He averages about two to three goals a game. That's P1 Herald. You know, I thought about this and I was like, you know, it's kind of life. In life, when you do well, you get rewarded. Even in sports. If this were a small sampling of soccer as a grown-up, the same thing would happen in life. You get incentives. And so I don't know. I mean, I don't see any real problem with it. Maybe you guys can talk me out of it if you guys disagree. Eddie? I wholeheartedly disagree. Really? Look at you. Talk me through it. Absolutely. Whoa.
I think it's sending the wrong message for a kid. As an adult, I understand getting paid, and that's somebody's job. But this is recreation. You're supposed to go out there and have fun. You're supposed to learn teamwork and things like that. You're not playing for the money. And if you're learning at that age to play sports for the money and things like that, I think that's part of the problem with sports today is these guys aren't playing for the love of the game. They're not playing for your respect of the teammates. They're playing for the almighty dollar. And I really disagree with that. And it really bothers me. I like it. Sky. Yeah, I don't know exactly why I don't like it, but I don't like it. When I heard the email, it creeped me out. And then I know when we were growing up, my brother didn't like to swim. He was one of those kids that didn't like to put his head underwater. So my mom dropped silver dollars in the bottom of the pool and told him for everything. Money, money, money. Money, money, money, money. It's all starting to make some sense. It sure is. Oh, no, I didn't. For me, it was gold bars. No.
I wouldn't get in there unless she threw the gold box. No, money, money, money. For me, it was nothing because I was a good swimmer. So money, money, money. I get nothing. Not bitter. Still not holding. Now you understand. I slept on a bed of money, though. That's right. Well, I had a nest. It was made of 20s. But I thought that that was cool because he didn't like putting his head underwater. So my mom threw him in the pool and said, hey, whatever you can get, you can keep. So I thought that was neat. But this, to me, is different. And for some reason, what's the difference? Because like to me, swimming is like a safety thing. You need to learn how to put your head underwater. It was something that he was fearful of. And that was an encouragement to get him over the fear. Now with this, I don't see it that way. It's like, yeah, like Eddie was saying, you know, you should do it for the love of the sport. And if that's not your motivation. But then Mike makes a great argument. Well, that's real life. But something creeps me out about it. 570-1053, our text number 35253. Rob, what do you think? You know what? At first, I was really on board with it. And I was kind of going, you know, well, I kind of got money. That's because you're poor. Yeah, that is true. He's like, please, I'll go score some.
Absolutely. I was ready to sign up for youth soccer and, you know, five bucks a goal. I figured a week I could make some extra cash. Right. But no, because for grades, you know, if I got A's, I would get like 20 bucks an A. Really? It never happened. I'm being honest. It never happened with me. Wow, now that I think about it, I think my parents might have been being mean. Now, Rob, you recognize that that doesn't mean that something's wrong with the system. It means that there was something wrong with the kid. They offered the incentive. You didn't reach it. Just like in real life, some people are offered incentives. They don't reach it. Yeah, but with Eddie talking about having fun and instilling bad morals or just a bad take on the game, throwing money into something kind of... I think when you're a kid, you know, when you're a kid, it's not, it shouldn't be about money. And it really, this may sound weird coming from me, it really shouldn't be about being the best and scoring goals and all that stuff. I know. Wait a minute. When you're a kid, it's different. I understand. Who is sitting right there? Who said that right now? Who is wearing the Eddie skin and saying that?
I like this, Eddie. That is weird. I have that. I really have that opinion when you're a little kid. Yeah. When you're a little kid, just go out there and have fun. A couple months old. When you're a penis. Before you come out. Yes. That's right. But when you come out, you're a champion. Play like a champion. Here's 50 bucks. Don't disappoint me. 570-1053 is the number. The text number is 35253. What do you think about this? A 10-year-old kid. He's playing soccer. He plays poorly. Dad says, you know, just get in there. Be aggressive. The kid still can't do it. Finally, the dad says, listen, I'll give you five bucks for every goal you score. And now the kid's out there. He's a monster scoring goals all the time. Is it wrong to incentivize children with money? My argument is this mirrors life. This is what happens in life. To me, it's the same as an allowance. We do the same thing with an allowance. We say. If you do these chores, we'll give you money. You could still make the argument that a chore is something that's about life. And it's important to learn that in life, we've got to work. Chores work. You're getting paid for work. You're not getting paid to, you know, you shouldn't be getting paid to go do fun. You know, go have fun and, you know, play with other kids. Now, what about if he grows up and he wants to play soccer? That's what he wants to do. He's going to get paid.
Yeah, that's going to be his job. This isn't his job. Right. OK, but what if that's what he wants to do for a living? You know, go for it. But you're not going to get paid as a kid because we got it. Well, like I said, it's not a job. It shouldn't be paid. You shouldn't be paid. Well, and when you're an adult, it's like. I don't know why this popped in my head, but if you're a professional athlete, if you don't perform well, then things are taken away from you. So is the parent going to start doing that when you don't score goals, you start losing stuff? That's not cool. I think that that does happen in the game. If you don't score goals, you don't get banned. Yeah, you might get banned. You might get benched. And that's a tough lesson to learn, too. Is the parent going to take something away? Like, do we deduct five bucks for every week of your bench? You don't get the Capri Sun at halftime? Yeah, you don't get the Capri Sun. No, no, no, no. They're giving you an incentive. They're not going to add a deduction. They're just saying you get an incentive. But if we're mirroring life, you know, in the professional world, yeah, you'll lose your job. Yeah, he will, too. If you're not scoring goals. He will, too. He'll get benched. But your money, no more money. Yeah.
Well, no, no, no. Here's the deal. Money, money, money. We must be very clear. We're not being paid money to walk on the field. We're being paid money when we score a goal. It's an incentive. So it's not pay. This isn't a job. This is an incentive. I mean, it's kind of strange. Like, we'll give money to kids for losing a tooth. We'll do that. You know what? The more we talk about it, I don't think anything's wrong with it. Now Rob's going back the other way. Don't worry. I'll tell him something else. Because as long as the overall mood is they're out there, they're having fun, and they're not getting anything taken away. There is no punishment if they're not scoring goals. But you're just saying, hey, if you make a goal, I'm going to throw you five bucks. And everyone is just having fun. I don't think that's really going to corrupt them or go get money hungry. I don't think kids could be. really come greedy. Right. Well, here's the deal. I will say in all honesty, I wish that when I was a kid, my parents would have incentivized me. I wish that they would have. But with money? Sure. I mean, with money, they could do something with it. You know, the first thing, now I know Harold, and the first thing that he gave as an incentive was a video game. The kid went out there and crushed it. He went out there and crushed it.
But Harold's like, I can't be buying a brand new video game every single time. So the kid doesn't know that he says, hey, listen, I'll give you five bucks. That kid's a goal machine. He's a goal machine. So who are we doing this for? Are we doing this for the kid or are we doing it for the parent? No doubt about it. We're doing it for both. The dad is getting something out of it. He's proud of his son. It feels great. He wants him to be good at the sport. No doubt about it. And the kid is getting something out of it. Now, what I thought was really interesting about this. was I said, something happened mentally in the mind of this kid. Something mentally happened. In other words, this kid was capable the whole time. Right. He was capable the whole time, but nothing Harold was saying was getting through to him. And he was trying to teach him in every way possible. He said the five buck thing, bingo, bambo, yingo, yambo. There it is. Chantel. Well said. Are we positive that he enjoys playing soccer? Right. I don't know. I feel like it's. I am going to. I'll tell you this. This is the interesting thing. I think he does now. But for the wrong reasons. For the wrong reasons. Wait a minute. Hang on a second. Really? Hang on a second. I can tell you that about many jobs in radio that I've had. Where I wasn't. It wasn't. And how many of us listening right now can say, you know what? I have this job. It's not the greatest thing in the world.
But there's some things I like about it and some things I don't like about it. Now, this begs a question. Does this now effectively make this a job for this kid? Absolutely. Is that what it is? Is it now a job? Absolutely. Okay. You know, I don't know the kid. If he's not having fun and he's doing it for the money, then it is a job. Okay. Question number two. Does he like his job? I don't know. Something tells me. Something tells me. He doesn't just like his job. He probably loves his job. Does he love his job or his paycheck? Well, he wanted to get into soccer. He wanted to get into soccer. There's a lot of people that work for the money that hate their job. True. A lot of people. But he wanted to play soccer. He just wasn't good at it. I think that sends a bad message. Like, okay, go for the money. It's all about the money. Not your passion or drive for life. It's about the money. That's a terrible thing to put in your kid's head, especially at such a young age. 570-1053. Text us, 35253. The phone lines are jammed. The phone lines are jammed. 570-1053. P1 Brian. Hey, what's up, man? What's up? Hey, yeah, I was just calling to put my two cents on this. I completely think that it's okay. It's a form of positive reinforcement. Just like, you know, you play to get the bigger trophy. You play to get something of value. Right. In a kid's eyes or in anybody's eyes, the bigger trophy is the more valuable thing. The fact that it's money really doesn't make...
make a big difference. It's just some form of value, you know. You win the game, you get to go to McDonald's for lunch. You win the game, you get a, you know, an extra toy or whatever. You lose the game, you run extra laps. You know, it's just, you know, you look at the positive and negative. It's a positive reinforcement, which I'm sure Sky would agree is better than the negative reinforcement. Well, but with my parents, I, you know, played soccer and danced and did a lot of things, and it was never if you win or lose. It's like, if you give it your all. If you have fun out there, then we're going to go to McDonald's for lunch. It was never about winning or losing. It was never about number of goals. You're not going to take your kid to McDonald's because he lost his soccer game? Yeah, that's crappy. That's brutal. You missed the point. I'm saying it's a thing of value that you get for excelling at something. See, I don't know how it works. The fact that it's a dollar doesn't make a big difference. It's something of value that the kid has from this tangible that he can... Yeah, and the only reason he chose to use money is because the video games are too much. But the money is not about having fun. He's not getting rewarded for having fun, for being a team player, for any of that. He's being rewarded for scoring goals.
immense confidence. And I know that that equals fun for that kid. There's no two ways about it. Now, it took him that to get there mentally, but he's there. And there's no doubt in my mind, I could be wrong. We could ask him and he could say, no, I hate it. I really hate it. But I have a feeling that he probably loves it. He has so much confidence, and I love that. Well, that's great, Skye. I agree, Skye. Skye, I agree. Take it easy. Money, money, money. P1 Penelope's against it. Penelope, tell me what you think. I just wonder, when he's down in the penalty box, and he's about to take a shot, and there's somebody wide open, if he's going to pass it off. Of course not. Of course not. Good point. That is an awesome point. And you know, kids, you guys know this, kids can't discern that. Kids aren't really capable of being like, you know, I should probably right now in this case. Now, let me ask you a question. I wonder if this happens also in the NBA, you know, where it's about, you know, you got sometimes you got it. But I got to get mine. I got to get mine. Now, this does happen. And I think that this may happen in life. So if I were to give the devil's advocate side of it, I would say it's important to teach your kids.
Way before a soccer field about team play. Way before the soccer field. That's the devil's advocate side of it, but I get where you're going. Your point is completely right. It's ruined the NBA. Yeah. But my point is, those kids that are playing, or those adults in the NBA, they should have ever before they touched a basketball court been taught what it is to be a team player. The question now is, well, is Harold teaching him what it's like to be a team player? I'm sure he is. I know Harold. He's a good guy, and I'm sure he's doing that. But like you said, it's hard when you're a little kid to figure that out. All that kid wants now is, I want my five bucks. I'll tell you, I think it's hard to figure out as an adult, too. Sure. It's always going to be a part of our nature. Even if we're taught, it's always going to be a part of our nature to say, I want mine.
I mean, it's just who we are. Where do I go? Where do I go? Let's see. We got tons of phone lines lit up right now. 570-1053. Let's see. Honey? Hi. It's my wife on the line. I just called because I don't know why I feel so passionate about this particular topic, but I do. What do you think? I just think that I don't like paying for... success in sports at a young age. I think a point that nobody's brought up yet is that in the same way that the caller just said it creates an additional motivation for the child, it also sets the child up for additional disappointment. I don't necessarily believe that a child has the ability to process and deal with. And the best example I can think of is we know somebody, and I won't say who, and they don't do this. I'm just using this as an example. Their son has reached a pretty high level of competitive martial arts and to the point where he actually travels places in the country to compete. And like I said, as far as I know, they don't pay or anything like that. But I was just thinking that he went to a really important meet.
And he lost. And I was talking to his dad about it, and his dad said, you know, it's just, it was really, I'm really proud of him, and it was really tough to see the disappointment. Because here's a kid who's trying his hardest. You know, he's putting everything into it, and he loses. Can you imagine, on top of the disappointment of losing this big match, he also has to deal with the disappointment of not getting the, whatever, $50 that he was promised if he wins the big match. You know what I'm saying? And I guess now here's the devil's advocate to that. Okay. I think it's important for kids to learn very early on lessons that will happen in life. In other words, yes, it would be massive disappointment. And many times in life we are going to encounter massive disappointment and it's going to hurt. But what that creates in us is patience, which creates character. I understand that, and I believe that to a certain extent. But there's a reason that traditionally that level of disappointment doesn't occur for kids until they're actually adults or closer to being adults because they're more emotionally equipped to handle and process those types of emotions. You are putting a number on something that you can't put a number on. Well, true. You know what I mean? You're quantifying.
the level of disappointment when we can't, we don't know. Like, we really don't know. I guess it's dependent on a couple of things. A, the kid. And B, something struck me when you said this. This seems to me to be something that is very particular to a kid who's having a hard time getting over the hump. Oh, not necessarily. I think parents do it all the time. Even with their kid that is, boom, automatically out there and real good? See, because there's something about my instincts that say, I don't know so much about that, if that's necessarily a good idea or necessary. And this seemed to be something that got... Now tell Jake if he stops crying, I'll give him a new Elmo toy. Oh, I see. This is not working. Uh-oh. I wouldn't do that. But yeah, I mean, the guy that you're talking about, his kid was good. He's always been good. Well, sure. He's always been good. But I mean, and I'm not talking about this guy at all. But I know that in people that I've met who have kids that are really good in like soccer or whatever, like that's something that they really take pride in for themselves.
And so it's important for them as parents to like motivate the continued success. Do you know what I'm saying? Yeah. I think that happens a lot. I think you see more parents out there on the field that are invested in the game. A hundred percent. And that's why when Eddie asked that question, it's like, hey, listen, there is no doubt about it. And you're never going to change this. Parents are invested in what their kid's doing out there on that field, no matter what. It's a reflection of. It's like a projection of us out on that field, too. When they lose, it hurts for us. And when they win, it brings us such happiness. And so there's no doubt about it. Hey, we got to take a break. Thank you, honey. I love you, too. We got Harold on the line. Oh, my gosh. We have to take a quick time out. But Harold, the guy that wrote it, that was telling us about it. He is on the line. We have people lined up on our phone lines right now that say, Eddie and Sky are absolutely right. This is not cool. And we got a couple of people on the line that are saying, this is a great idea, and this is why. What do you think? Should you incentivize kids with money? 570-1053. Our text number is 35253. Mikey. Rock 105.3 traffic. Brought to you by Sleep Train Mattress Centers. The ride's easing up on our freeway. Still jammed up, though, on the South 15 out of Escondido from the 78th of your Rancho Parkway, a little bit through Carmel Mountain Ranch. On that westbound 56, still jammed, though, from Camino del Sur to the 5. The 5 itself on the North County shoreline. Still have you from Lucadia, the end of Solana Beach. And North 805 still jammed up here coming out of Kearney Mesa over the 52. I'm Rick Lawrence on Rock 105.3. Hey, is this Todd? Yeah. Todd wrote me an email. Tell everybody what you wrote me in the email. Mikey, I bought a Simmons Beautyrest Cunningham pillow top over at Sleep Train two weeks ago, and it was just an amazing experience. The salesperson gave me 10% off before he even knew I was in there for the Mikey show. And then I used the Ace card and said, oh, Mikey told me to come in, and I got an additional 10. So all in all, I saved 20% on the mattress. And I bought it at Mission Valley at 11 o'clock.
They had it delivered and installed in Chula Vista by 2.30 on the same day. That's rad. And what's even more amazing, since it was a Cunningham pillow top, it was personally delivered by Richie Cunningham and Patsy Weber. It was just an amazing experience. That's awesome. How do you like sleeping on it? It's amazing. I've never had any problems sleeping before, but with the new mattress, it's even better. It's completely amazing. I would recommend Sleep Train and all the P1s out there. And Richie Cunningham and Potsy Weber delivered it. Absolutely. You can definitely meet Richie and Potsy if you get the Cunningham pillow top. There you go. That's beautiful. Hey, dude, I appreciate it. Thank you for calling. Thanks, Mikey. We'll see you. Mikey. President Bush, I heard that you were looking forward to Thursday so much. You couldn't wait. I mean, I've been thinking about this trip for a long time, and I've canceled it now so I can talk to you about money. That's right. And stuff. Is it true that you kept saying to Laura, 12 more hours, six more hours? I'm so proud, man. I couldn't even sleep last night. And I woke up, and they go, nah, dude, you can't go.
And I'm like, what? Because, you know, Thursday's cool, not a lot of lines. President Bush, you didn't know? They have a front of the line pass. Yeah, you can buy that. You can buy it. You get to go right to the front of the line. The economy's bad. I can't afford it. Remember the last time something was this crazy on the phones? Right? Phone lines are blowing up. Way to go, Harold. 570-1053-844. California lawmakers and the governor have finally come to a compromise on the California budget and will vote on the new plan today. Padres still trying to get the worst record in baseball, take on their competition for that spot in Washington tonight. I mean, at this point. They're very close to accomplishing their goal. Harold, are you there? I'm here. Okay, cool. Let me read this email. We'll see what you think. This says...
The subject line is, yeah, but. And it says, people who get paid to play professional sports only do so because they are making money for other people, sponsors, team managers, et cetera. What child is making their parents' money by kicking a ball into a net? Well, I don't understand that because this is reverse. The kid's making the money. They're not making the money for their parents. Well, you can think of it as like a retirement plan. I'm just making an investment. Well, there you go. He'll give it back to you eventually. If a kid wants to be good at something, let it happen. Money will become their motivator later in life, which you could argue is the basis for most adults' decisions. But the passion for the sport can be lost. If we're going to reward a child for playing a sport, we also need to discipline or punish them for poor performance. You have to maintain a balance. Otherwise, take the money out of it and let them play. Well, let me that was P1 Adam. Adam, let me take your first sentence. Your first sentence is people who get paid to play professional sports only do so because they're making money for other people. Well, I think that that is wrong. I don't think the only reason that they play sports is to make money for other people. In fact, I don't think making money for other people as.
anything to do with it. I think that making money for themselves may have something to do with it. But even professional athletes don't only play for the money. Brett Favre comes to mind. Brett Favre is not out there playing for the Jets right now because he really needs or wants the money. Brett Favre said after last week's game that they lost, by the way. He said, I wish it... It wouldn't have turned out the way it did, but I had a lot of fun out there today. And I think that for a lot of these guys, well, most of them, I think you ask them, do you have fun doing this? They say, yeah. Yeah, I agree with what you're saying, but I think what this dude was trying to say is that the only reason they're able to play for money is because they're making money for the higher-ups. So without them making money for the higher-ups, they wouldn't even have the option to play. So that's the first component because if they're not making money for the sponsors and for the team, then they're not playing anyway. And if we're not making money for our job, we're not playing. Money, money, money. It's the same concept. I mean, if we don't perform, you get, well, these kids, that means that the kids better not get benched.
They better not lose their job. It's not a big deal to get benched if you're in it. It is a big deal to get benched. I grew up playing like every sport and like it was never about like the win or lose. Every sport. A lot of sports. Wait a minute. She really did. Everyone. A lot of sports. Judo. She was there. Yeah. All of them. Yep. Badminton. Water polo. Shuffling. Croquet. I did soccer and tennis and swimming. You know, but a lot of team sports. That is every sport, actually. I just don't think that it's bad. She just actually named every sport. Well, to my son's defense, in fact, it's funny you mentioned what Brett Favre said last week. They did not win their game last week. We got home, and my son did say the exact words. He said, well, at least we had a lot of fun out there. Did he make some money? And to be honest, and I'm not just making this up, his favorite position is goalie. Well, how's he going to make the dough? He doesn't kind of block goals. He scores for the other team. That's right. He doesn't. They throw him in forward because, well, you know, the coach wants to put points on the board. And when there's a boy that's going to be throwing points on the board, where are they going to put them? Then why does he need the money then? Doesn't sound like he wants the money. Last year, he was real shy. And he'd get the ball. And a kid from, he would either.
pass it right away or he would just let the other team take it away from him. And that went on for about three or four games. And his big thing was he loved playing video games. I said, look, if you score a goal this game, I'll buy you a video game. That very next game, he was plowing over kids. He got a goal. So I bought him a video game. And then I thought, you know, well, this seemed to work. So I thought, well, I can't keep buying video games. So we lowered the price. And he's down to five bucks. He's five bucks a goal, and he's a good player, and he loves doing it. He has a great time out there. Which is a good example of what any professional sports franchise does from time to time. You know, the player's doing real well, and they go, I don't know if we can pay you that much. See, now he's got to go out there and find a free agent dad that's willing to pay him more than the five bucks. I can get some sponsors for him, then I'll be golden. Yeah, no kidding. Hey, dude, great topic. Thank you, man. Yeah, thank you.
This is P1 Mark. Mark is actually the neighbor that we were talking about. Go ahead, Mark. Hey, guys. You know, I don't disagree with rewarding the child with good play. I think it's a great way to incentivize the child to excel in what they're trying to do. Push our kids to be the best they can. At the same time, teach them how to win and lose with the same dignity. And I think that's where the balance comes in. My son is the young boy that went to Detroit for Junior Olympics in Taekwondo. And he worked hard to get there. And when he got there, he just came across a buzzsaw of a kid that was much better than he was and took him down pretty quickly. And he was very disappointed. But you know what? The next week, he was up again.
Back in the studio training because he wanted to. Only because he wanted to. And he's training harder today than he did prior to that tournament. And that's not having any money involved. It's just the kids learning those lessons just through the spirit of competition. Yeah. You're absolutely right, Eddie. I sit with him when he wins. I tell him how good he was, and I ask him how he felt about it. I ask him if there's any areas that he needs to improve on. When he loses, it's the same thing. I'm very proud of him. I ask him how he felt. How do you think he played? How do you think he competed? Where do you think you need to work on? Let's get going. But at the same time, You know, I can't fault because when I played sports as a kid, I got paid by other kids' parents when I did well in the game. What? Really? Yeah, my parents didn't pay me, but other kids' parents used to pay me. That's really creepy. That's crazy, man. They recognized a good kid on the team. They said, hey, we'll help you out. Oh, my gosh. I'd be pissed if I was the parent. Oh, I would be really mad. Hey, Mark, did your parents know they were doing that?
Oh, yeah, they did it right in front. They would do it right as we came out of the dugout after the game. The parents were all the kids would be there handing out dollar bills to the kids on the team that did really well that game. Wow. In front of the other kids that didn't do well? Yeah. That's awesome. That's life. But you're a kid. You're a child. Explain it to me. Explain it to me, because when we're kids, we're not going to be kids forever. We're not going to be kids forever, and I see what you're saying, but at that point in your life, you're not equipped to deal with that. Emotionally, you're already, like, upset because it didn't go your way, but then to see other kids on your team being rewarded, and you're not emotionally equipped to sit there and go, Why is Johnny better than me? Why is, you know. You're not any. I was. Let me tell you something. I had lunch with a guy. I had lunch with a guy yesterday who was saying to me almost word for word. It isn't fair. This. I should be fifth. I should be top five in my company right now. Right. And there's another dude. Number one.
This doesn't go away as adults, guys. No, it doesn't go away. But you're better equipped. I'm telling you that that guy I had lunch with yesterday is no more equipped to handle that. So he was like a 10-year-old sitting there. Yes. And Sky, Sky, Sky, Sky. You know that in our lives now, we behave. I told you guys a story about eight months ago. When was it? It was St. Patrick's Day. And we were going to some restaurant. I told it on the air. We were going to a restaurant. We had Jake. We went into this. I wanted, what was it? Cabbage. What's the same package? Corned beef and cabbage. We go to this place where they got corned beef and cabbage. We take Jake in there. We go in there. They're playing bagpipes. It's too loud. Upsets Jake. We got to leave. Inside, I was like a 10-year-old. And for the first time in my life, that was like a. If I ever wrote a book about my life, that would be one of those little moments I had in my life. Because for the first time in my life, I tried to calm myself in that particular case using God because the 10-year-old inside of me wanted to huff and puff and blow the house down.
Exactly. And that is what we do as adults. If you guys are thinking, no, no, no, no. Mike, when we're adults, we're much better equipped. And we handle situations like this. You did handle it. You self-calmed. Jay could not self-calmed. A 10-year-old probably isn't equipped to self-calmed. Sky, this happened 2008. I'm 38 years old. I did it for the first time at 38 years old. But prior to 38 years old, I hadn't done it. I was just a 10-year-old. We got to bring Diego in. We got to bring Diego in. Real quick, can I say one thing? Yeah. Just because with that and, you know. Oh, go ahead. Go ahead, Rob. Sorry. Diego was, he just had to go to the bathroom. And I thought, oh, we got to bring him in. Go ahead. It's controlling the situation around little kids. You know, whether you're equipped or not, because, you know, I've met 40-year-old people that act like they're 10. It's that when you're an adult, you can control that situation so the kids aren't feeling hurt. more than they should you know when you're kids you should try to as a as an adult you should almost kind of block some of that out you know and if you have control to you know not let your kid feel crappy then you should control that situation when we're adults you know what it's not fair and those are the things we have to deal with and being a kid is kind of you know being able to have some of that innocence and having your parents protect you i don't think that it was necessary it's just like you taking jake out of that restaurant
You're saying, you know, these kids are going to have to witness other kids getting a dollar handed to them. Then Jake should have to stay in that restaurant and cry. Let's talk about that example. Because in that example, I don't think that was necessary. I don't think it's necessary to hand out the dollar bills. Even though, even though that is life. Yeah, that's adult life. In adult life, we do have dollar bills handed out in front of us. And by the way, as adults. We're like 10-year-olds, and I've seen it happen time after time after time. I've seen grown adults act like 10-year-olds. In fact, 10 is actually giving them the benefit of the doubt. I'd say eight, nine. So there's that first. So I don't think it was necessary necessarily to hand out the dollar bills, okay? But the idea of saying to your kid, you score a goal, I'm going to give you five bucks per goal, I don't have a problem with. And the only reason that I don't... The only reason that I don't is because I believe that that is the same concept as what happens in life. You get a reward and incentive. Eddie. You know, when you play team sports as a kid, the reason why you're playing them isn't for adult reasons. When you're playing team sports as a kid, you're playing them because, number one, it should be because it's fun.
And number two, it's to learn what being part of a team is about. And when you're awarding different kids a dollar for this and a dollar for that, you're not learning what teamwork's about. You win as a team, you lose as a team. Not one guy did better than anybody else. There was always a kid that was the best on the team or better than me or worse than me or whatever. And I never should have been rewarded for being better than that kid. He's my teammate. So I'm going to help him pick up his game and vice versa. Well, then we should do that in adult life, in business as well. Like, we're all a team, and so nobody should be rewarded. You're putting your adult thoughts and responsibilities onto a child. And it's different. It is different. Well, if you say it's about fun, clearly this kid, he wasn't having any fun. He was getting rolled over. He was getting rolled over. Well, he was, you know, what Harold said is the guy was shy. The kid was shy. Right. And wasn't really getting the aspect of what he should be doing. Right. To me, he wasn't having any fun. To me, that means he needs more coaching. And I know Harold. Harold's a great dad. And instead of rewarding him with a video game, did you think about maybe spending more time with him, learning the game and things like that? Well, Harold's not. Oh, did he take off already? No. But.
But I can tell you this. I know Harold was trying to coach him up the best he could. The coach was trying to coach him up the best he could. How do you know that? Because I talked to Harold. Oh. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, but here's the thing. I don't think that when you're losing, you're having any fun. It's brutal to lose. You know, it's terrible. When I was a kid, we would have fun. You know, we're playing soccer, but we're at the same time doing cartwheels out there because we're kids. It's not all about winning. It's about having fun with the team. He said his kid was miserable. And I remember what it was like as a kid to lose. I mean, it sucks. So what, money makes you better? It's weird that all of a sudden he's better. No, money doesn't make it better. Money made it an incentive. Now the kid's better, and he's having a great time. Wasn't the not doing well and being miserable incentive enough? No. Exactly. That's strange to me. And you should learn to lose and win fairly, and that's the roll of the dice. Okay, so that means that you might have that little hidden gem. of a secret that it is to take that kid from point A to point B without the incentive. Now, what's that? Because they couldn't find it. They were trying to coach him up. They were trying to teach him how to play soccer. They couldn't get there with him. He said, I'll give you a video game. That's not the sport for him. Maybe it wasn't the sport for him. Oh, well, it is. I wasn't great at baseball. I loved playing baseball. I wasn't great at baseball. Yeah. I was good at football and I was good at soccer. And so I realized, all right, well, maybe this isn't sport for me.
And I found something I was better at. Imagine if you had been incentivized and then maybe it would have been the sport for you. I don't think that would have made me better. I mean, I tried my best. That's fair. That's fair. It wouldn't have worked for you. It worked for this kid. And in many cases, it does work for me. When I have been incentivized, and I think that that's a part of human nature, that's why incentives exist. I guess that's like telling me that the kid didn't work hard. You know, you're giving him an incentive to be better. Why wasn't he better in the first place? He just wasn't. I mean, well, let's walk that thought through. I don't understand that. Well, let's walk that thought through. Yeah. Where does that go? Like, let's assume that that is right. So why wasn't he? What do you think? It sounded like the kid was very shy and didn't have that killer instinct. Yeah, I guess. Yeah. And that's true. I think that that's true. He didn't. Now, how do you get him there? Because they tried. I would continue just to work with him and keep coaching him and continue to work on his game rather than be like, I'm going to pay you to have a killer instinct. That doesn't teach me sportsmanship at all.
Yeah, I think that sportsmanship is a separate conversation. And I think that that's important to be having that conversation with him. It's always important to be talking about. I think it's part of it. For me, it's part of it. Yeah, yeah. I mean, I think we agree on that one. 570-1053. Can we get Diego in here? I want to know what Diego thinks. Hey, Mark, thank you, man. All right, guys. Appreciate it. What a topic. Right? Like, who knew this was going to explode like this? I know it. I know it. It's such an interesting topic. Oh, definitely. And I see Eddie's side of it, and I see your side of it, Sky. Oh, and I see your side, but it's just, it's one of those weird kind of things. It's weird. I only see my side. Well, that's pretty standard for you. Oh, okay. So you're fine. You're fine. Everything's normal over there. Ladies and gentlemen. Oh, my. Diego Sanchez. Oh, cool. He's coming into the studio. And in case you didn't know, hey, dude, how are you, man? How you doing? It's good to see you. Have a seat, Diego. Hi. Nice to see you. By the way, this is the song that Diego walked out to the night that he went into the fight in Anaheim. Oh, yeah. Let me tell you something. Diego, I have seen. Hey, what's up, everybody? Dude, good morning, San Diego. Diego Sanchez, UFC. Professional athlete himself. That's right.
Bro, I have been to a professional, I mean, one of the biggest spectacles ever, which is a professional boxing match. It was incredible. It was at MGM. It was an incredible thing. My dad and I went together. It was great. It didn't even come close to the energy and the excitement and the hair coming up on the arms of a UFC event. The most electric events I've ever gone to in my life. They are absolutely nuts. And what do you attribute that to? You know, I think it's just the fans are just so diehard. And, you know, about maybe like two or three years ago, it used to be like 30%, 30%, 40% are diehards. And now it's like 99% are diehards in the arena. So it's like. Everybody in there is just crazy about the sport. They love to fight. You know, you used to have like the 50% of the people that were just like, oh, UFC, let's go watch it. It's something that's cool right now. And they didn't even know the fighters. They didn't even know the game. But they would just go and get drunk and get crazy, you know. So it was kind of like a 50-50. You know, there was a bunch of dumbasses that were in the stands. And then there was like all these good fans. But now it's just like.
These people that love the sport. And, like, 50% women, too, who know the sport. It's crazy. They love it. The last one that I went to was BJ Penn and Shirk, and Tito fought Liotto, and Wanderlei fought Key Journey, and it was in Vegas, and it was amazing. I sat in the stands, and I was just like, wow. This, you know, my fight coming up with Thiago Alves in Chicago, October 25th, you know, it's going to be the first time to Chicago ever, and Chicago is... Actually, they hold all the records for pay-per-views. And they have diehard fans out there. So it's sold out in like 20 minutes, I think. Really? 20 minutes. That's crazy. Did you hear our conversation about kids playing sports, giving them incentives? And what do you think? I overheard you guys a little bit. She kept cutting me out. Yeah, no, but yeah, when I was young, I played football and, you know, I played on the defensive side. And if I was to get any sacks or tackles, you know, I'd get like a couple bucks, you know, maybe like a couple bucks a sack. Right. Yeah, I loved it. I thought it was a great incentive and it gave me more drive. You know, when you're a kid sometimes, you know.
you don't really understand the sports game that much. You know, you don't understand the will to win that much. So, you know, when there's a little incentive behind it, you know, hey, you know, I get to go buy a toy after or something. Right. It could get a kid pumped up. I think there's a big difference between high school and kids. Like, to me, you know, at least when you're in high school, you kind of get it, I think, a little bit more. When you're a kid, to me, you know, the concept of winning and having to be the best and those kind of things, you know, I just, I don't know, man. I have a hard time with that, you know, with little kids. Hey, Diego, your next fight is going to be against a guy that is pretty tough. And is it pronounced Thiago Alves or is it Thiago Alves? I call him Thiago Alves. I guess some people call him Thiago Alves. He just beat Matt Hughes, dude. Yeah. I just wanted to let you know. I don't know. I think he knows, Mike. He beat Matt Hughes. He wrecked him pretty bad, yeah. So is this your toughest fight yet? In some ways, you know, but fights, styles make fights, and matchups are everything in the fight game.
Some guys' strength and some guys' weakness, and the way they match up with styles is everything, man. Some guy might be better in jiu-jitsu. Some guy might be better in striking. But where the fight goes, it may never get there. Me, for instance, I'm always very, very well conditioned, and so do a lot of the other athletes. But I do something that's different is I keep a high pace, and I try to keep the guys from letting them rest. If you watch UFC, I think it was Wednesday night. Clay Guida. Yeah, Clay Guida. Monster. He fought the fight hard. He didn't really do much damage, but he just kept coming the whole 10 minutes. And by the beginning of the third round, the guy McDanza, a great fighter, he was just gassed out and frustrated. And that's something I think that Thiago Alves isn't going to be prepared for. He cuts a lot of weight. He comes down from 200 pounds. His fight with Matt Hughes, he didn't even make the weight. He came in at 175. So it's going to be interesting. I got a lot of respect for him. And then you got to look on the other side of it. Matt Hughes, he took the fight on three weeks' notice. And it's Matt Hughes on the decline. Unfortunately to say, Matt Hughes has had a...
Long, great career, but he's on his way out. Diego Sanchez is in the studio with us. He is going to be facing Tiago Alves at UFC 90 October 25th. Josh Koshek. Let's talk about Josh. You know, we just actually filmed the Ultimate Fighter Season 1. reunion, and I don't know if anybody's seen it on Spike. They aired season one, and they had all of us there, and we were just talking, shooting it with Joe Rogan and Dana about how the first season came about and just everything. Me and Josh, we're all right now. If we fight again, when we fight again. When? We're both looking forward to it. You know, we're one and one. I beat him up real bad on the show. And he came back and... Didn't beat you up. No. He played a points game. And I lost my first fight. You know, and it was a tough, tough loss. But it was a humbling loss. And, you know, I had a very bad staph infection. I was sick. There was a bunch of circumstances that were in that fight that were playing against me.
But, you know, it was a learning lesson. And, you know, my time will be my time. And, you know, you just got to take it for what it is. Diego, what do you think is the best part of your game? My best part of my game is probably just, you know, having heart. And having heart and toughness, you know. I just get in there and fight. And, you know, some guys, I don't know. I get hit and I just come back kind of more meaner, more aggressive. Well, I'll help you answer that, Diego. He is a state champion wrestler. Yeah. Who, you know, if Diego gets you to the ground, you're done. But Diego has worked really hard on his striking, and now he can knock your head off. Really? He's a great all-around fighter. 570-1053 if you want to ask Diego Sanchez a question. Our text number is 35253. Back with Diego in the studio after this. Really? Yeah, tempo karate. And then I gave that up when I went to. Sixth grade, I started doing just regular wrestling, collegiate-style wrestling. And, you know, just fighting was in my blood. So, you know, it found me, you know. Were your parents either one of them athletes? No, neither of them. Really? No, my dad, just both hard workers. That's where I got my work ethic was from them. They just both worked their asses off. Yeah.
Let's take some phone calls. 570-1053 if you have a question for Diego Sanchez. P1 Wall. What's going, Mikey? What's happening? I'm pretty good. I've got a question for Diego. Go ahead. Hey, Diego. I met you not too long ago downtown out in front of Ralph's. But besides the Ultimate Fighter season that I call like the second chance season, how do you feel about finally having a UFC fighter win the title as in Forrest Griffin? I think it's awesome. You know, me and him, we were the first ultimate fighters. And, you know, it just shows our credibility how far all of the guys on the season have gone. You know, me, Chris Lieben, Koscheck, Swick, you know, Stefan Bonner. The list goes on and on, you know, of all these excellent fighters. Rashad Evans just totally destroyed.
Destroy Chuck Liddell, you know, and he was a tough winner, too. Chris Lieben was a crazy guy, wasn't he? He was a kind of kooky guy. What was he like off camera? No, he was just as crazy off camera. You know, the first season was just so real. We were all just totally being ourselves. I just laughed my ass off at myself on that season because I'm just like, man, look who's this crazy little kid, man. I'm like, what the heck was I doing? Yeah. This is P1 Jason. Are you there, Jason? Hi, kids. What's happening? Hey, I have a quick question for Diego. When you do get a title shot, and you will get a title shot, how do you think your style is going to match up to GSPs? Because he... George St. Pierre. Yeah. Good job, Mike. Yeah, I was like, GSP, that one's in my brain. You know, it'll match up very well. But, you know, first of all, you know, you got to think before that, you know, there's a fight that's going to take place before that, and that's BJ and GSP. So, you know, I don't count BJ out. I think that, you know, in the earlier rounds, I think he has the advantage. And in the later rounds, I think GSP has the advantage. You know, speaking of that fight that you just mentioned, P1 Chubbs is on the line, wants to ask your opinion of it. Go ahead, Chubbs.
I was actually wondering, what would you think of a GSP versus BJ Penn fight? You know, I think I just answered that question. But, no, I think it's going to be a good fight. And I hope BJ comes the best BJ because, you know, I would really like to see BJ win, honestly. I think me and BJ would be more. I think BJ and anybody is going to be a real entertaining fight. But I think our styles match up real well. Diego, Brock Lesnar, Randy Couture. Wow. Wow. That's awesome. That is a far out question. Yeah, I got to, you know, one time I told myself this. I will never bet against Randy Couture because I had lost a lot of money back in the day betting against him. But, yeah, starting with the Tito fight. That was way back then. Right. No, I got to go with Lesnar, man. Man, he really, really impressed me in his fight with Heath Haring. Heath Haring is no schmuck. That guy is a veteran. Really, really good fighter. And he totally just dismantled that guy. Made him look like he was a child. Yeah. We were talking on the air last week or the week before about Evan Tanner. Evan Tanner died in the desert. And he was camping. And he was an avid outdoor...
Did you know Evan? You know, I had met him a couple times, and he seemed really cool. I never really got to know him too well. We fought on the same card, the last card. When I fought Luigi, he fought Kendall. And that was the last time I'd seen him. We were doing some press work, and I kind of talked to him a little bit. He seemed like a real cool guy, but what a tragedy. You know, the guy's motorcycle broke down in the middle of... Right near here. It's at the border of Arizona and California. They say it gets like 130 degrees out there. Oh, man. Wow. What about Brandon Vera, another local guy? He's a real good friend of mine, man. Real good friend of mine. I actually done some training camps at Alliance down there. I haven't been training in Chula Vista. I've been training here locally in Point Loma now. No, man, he's a great warrior, man, and I hope to see him get his fire back. And we see that Brandon Vera of old, you know, in this next fight. He's fighting Keith Jardine, who also was a training partner of mine for six years. So, you know, I'm friends with both of them. I'm kind of just going to, like, cross my fingers and, you know, say may the best man win. That's all you can do in those situations. Eddie.
I forgot to mention, you know, you just mentioned the Randy Couture-Brock Lesnar fight. Right. Tickets go on sale for that tomorrow. It's going to be in Vegas at the MGM Grand. And we have two pairs of tickets to give away before you can buy them. Shut up. For real? Now, are we talking pay-per-view here? No, no. The tickets in Vegas. Oh, my gosh. In Vegas to see the event. 570-1053. Why don't you call us right now? 570-1053. Diego? Yeah, I got a question for you, man. Metallica, man. When is the actual Metallica concert? December what? 15th. December 15th. December 15th. I'm physically shedding tears right now because I was so looking forward to that, and I'm going to be doing this. I'm already booked for Orlando. I'm going to be out in Orlando. Oh, that's terrible. I was going to give you an incentive in your fight. If you knock out Tiago Alves, I was going to give you tickets. Oh, wow, Eddie. That would help. That would help. Yeah, I know. I'm about to cry.
That means that you're just not emotionally prepared at this age to be able to handle that kind of incentive. 5701053. Eddie, how many we got? We got just two pairs. This is in Las Vegas. I'm getting to see the event. I'm just going to hit a phone line. Oh, my gosh. What is your name? Hello? Loser. What is your name? Birdman. Birdman, you're going to Las Vegas. Oh, my. Yeah, dude. Yeah, dude. Yeah, hang on the line. You still can't believe it. It's freaking out. It's in shock. Yeah. Who's this? This is P1. I love me some me. Hey, dude. Yeah. You're going to Las Vegas. Oh, yeah. Yeah, dude. Yeah, dude. Hang on the line, will you? That's right. That's right. You won. Hang on the line, will you? We take care of you.
Hang on a second. This was a fun few minutes back in the office yesterday. Boston Rob dialing up old 80s videos on YouTube. Oh, man, it was so fun. We were watching the video for this and Rick Ashley and laughing hard. We tried to figure out what the meaning behind the video is. Storyboard it. I had to leave, and I didn't want to leave because you were starting Peter Cetera, Glory of Love from Karate Kid. That was a good one. And I was like, oh. This is a lot of laughs I'm going to miss out on. 570-1053. It's the Mikey Show. We'll be back after this. Thank you, Diego, for coming in here. We appreciate it, man, as always. Good luck, man. Yeah, thank you very much. I just want to say a shout-out to San Diego, of course, my new founded home. I love it here.
And that's why I'm here doing things like this. It's in your name. You know, Diego from San Diego. No one forgets my name over here. So that's a big awesome thing. But, yeah, thank you for my sponsors, Bad Boy, Bad Boy Clothing. And that's about it. Thank you, bro. It's such a great sport for San Diego and everyone listening. I just wanted to tell you, you know, I called AIS and talked to a kid named Carlos out of Escondido, and they saved me like $700 a quarter on my auto insurance. $700 a quarter? Yeah. I don't know what a quarter is. That's every three months or four months? It's every six months. I don't think that's a quarter, but that's neither here nor there. All right, every six months they save you how much? $600 because I had it suspended on my record when I finally got my license when I was 25 years old. I never drove before. This guy is saving $1,200 a year by switching to AIS. Yep. That's phenomenal, dude. Yeah, I think I might go get some laser eye surgery now with that money. You should. You might as well. That's right, air. When was the last time you checked the air pressure in your tires? Can't remember? Then it's definitely been too long. Did you know even tires in good shape can lose about one pound of pressure a month? And underinflated tires make your engine work harder, lowering your mileage. But don't overinflate them. You can usually find the recommended tire pressure on a sticker located on the driver's side door jamb. And speaking of air, air conditioning is not so hot for your car's mileage either.
Whenever you turn it on, it puts an added strain on your engine. Now, at highway speeds, it's probably better to use the A.C. rather than roll down the windows because of the aerodynamics. But around town, enjoy the fresh air. And that's another great way to get the most out of your Chevron with Tecron. Learn more mileage tips by visiting chevronwithtecron.com. Yeah, Mom? He is in a battle. He is lovers. A battle? He is locked horns in a battle. There's a heated battle? Yes. Kung fu battle? Yeah. It is not a kung fu battle. It is a sandwich battle. Who do I need to fight, Mike? Well, here is the deal. Let's see. There is, I'm trying to find, okay, here it is. Okay, go to his website, torpasta.com. T-O-R-P-A-S-T-A. Go to torpasta.com. And at the bottom of the page, there's a link to vote for the best sandwich in San Diego. We are going to lock horns with Jeff and Jer's listeners. Yes. The Battle Royale. That's right. Everybody listening, if you're in front of a computer, go there. Going there right now, Mike. T-O-R-P-A-S-T-A. Oh, look at that. Looks so good. And you're going to look for the link on the bottom of the page, and you're going to vote for Divine Postabilities. That's the name of his place, Divine Postabilities. Why he didn't go with Torpasta, I don't know. Mike, come on. But he's called Divine Postabilities. And we want you to vote for them. And we want the P1 Army to make them number one. And that's that. I mean... Please. Come on. Nice. Can't be more clear than that, right? Done and done. We have to get out of here. 570-1053. Yeah, we do. Because I got an appointment.
Oh, yeah, Universal Studios, right? It's actually Paramount I'm meeting with. My mistake. 570-1053 is the phone number. Give us a call. At the beginning and end of every show, we do an open phone segment so you can call in about anything you want. It's open phones. Mikey Show. Hey, what's up? It's P1 Third Day Fan. What's up, dude? I got two things. You're going to the third day show tomorrow night, right? It's not tomorrow night. Or not tomorrow night, next weekend. Yeah. And that is in question right now. Question. Oh, what's up with that? That is in question. Well, I don't have tickets, and I'm trying to procure tickets, and I just realized last night that they were going to be here a week from tomorrow. I didn't even realize that that's when it was. It just kind of snuck up on you. It just kind of snuck up on me, and so I thought of it last night, and I told my wife, I'm like,
Third day is a week from Saturday. And she was like, really? And so, yeah, it's a week from Saturday. It's a cricket. No chance we're doing a little in-studio action next week with third day? Well, they're not here on Friday. On Friday of next week, they are in Phoenix. And then they play a show in Phoenix on Friday night. And then on Saturday, they're here in Diegas. So they couldn't come in here. I might be able to get Mac on the phone or something, the lead singer, or Ty. I'll take what I can get, man. That's cool. All right. But, yeah, they're playing with Switchfoot, Jars of Clay, and another band, too. Other guy, yeah. So, cool, man. It's going to be good. Thank you, brother. Hope to see you there late. Cool. Mikey Show. You know, I have to say, your movie choices kind of suck this year. Dude, what did you want us to do? Well, I'd rather go see Devo and watch Duckman with Howard the Duck with Terry Shivo, but, you know.
Then what were the two movies? Howard the Duck and, let's see, Run, Ronnie, Run. That's not it. It was not Run, Ronnie, Run and Howard the Duck. What were your suggestions? Howard the Duck. Oh, oh, oh, those are your actual suggestions. Yeah, yeah, Howard the Duck. Oh. Way better than ours. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Howard the Duck and what? Run, Ronnie, Run or Keith. Oh, dude, see, it's got to be movies that people kind of know, man. Well, to explain, run, run, run, run, you have to... You have to be able to say it, and you can't do that. You can't do that. You're incapable. No, no, no. Oh, no, we got disconnected. Oh, darn it. I don't know what happened. I'm such a big fan of that. I don't know what happened. Number one. Oh, shucks. My roommate. Let's see. Mikey Show, hello. Oh, shucks. What's going on? Not much. I just want to know... Where is Divine Possibilities? Because I want to go there. They are in the Sports Arena area. They're on Midway Drive. Okay. Is there a cross street? No. Go to their website. No. I can't go to their website right now, so I'm driving. Oh, boy. Oh, no. They're on 3545 Midway Drive. All right, cool. I'll go there. You got it. Awesome. Have a good week. Midway and Fordham.
Midway and Fordham. I forgot to mention something. What? Okay, so the nerd that just called in reminded me. We're doing two movies. We're doing Howard the Duck and Run, Ronnie, Run. No, we're not. We're not. Make sure to pick those up. I thought those were the two movies that we were doing. That's what he said. No. That's what she said. We are doing Rocky III and Titanic. However, as a bonus. A bonus? As a bonus. Bonus. When that is over, we are going to watch... Talk about it. The Inner Light. What? What is that? The what? You guys don't know... Come on! That's the Inner Light. You know what that is! Don't act like you don't know. I really don't know. Eddie, as obscure as it is, it's still more well-known than Run, Ronnie, Ronnie. I agree with that.
The Inner Light is the episode of Star Trek that made Sean cry. I can't wait. I can't wait. I can't wait. That's ridiculous. It's beyond ridiculous. And that's like on DVD? That's something people can get? It's like on season 44. Okay, relax. Actually, I'm going to put everything on the website with all the links to iTunes and Netflix. I'm a big nerd. I'm a big nerd. Shut up. I'm going to put all the information, all of the movies are going to go on. I'll have links to everything, including Amazon. Oh, please. Oh, no. Including Amazon, Netflix, Blockbuster. You're a Blockbuster. What about Hollywood video? Okay, fine. I won't help. Sorry, I helped.
Sorry, I helped. P1 Daniel-san. You're a P1 Daniel-san. I just wanted to call and tell you that I'm totally stoked to watch Rocky III with you guys. I think that's definitely going to hopefully top Top Gun last year. That was the funniest thing I've ever heard. Last year was the Top Gun. It was so funny. My girlfriend went to bed right at 10 o'clock in the back room, and, of course, I had it on, and she was in the back room, and she couldn't sleep. She was cracking up, and she got up and watched it with me. That's awesome. So I'm totally stoked on your guys' movie selection this year, and I can't wait. Thank you, brother. I appreciate it. Eddie, you got something. Yeah, I got two things. First of all, I'd like to say it was an honor sharing the studio with Ayo today. That's right. That's my boy. How to the yes. And secondly. Got to come out to the big Rock 105.3 garage sale tomorrow out at Viejas. I'm actually going to be selling my junk out there. Yes. And we're going to be broadcasting. You're selling your junk. I'm selling my junk. I think your wife's going to have an issue with that. It's bitter, baby. What's up? You know. And broadcasting live out there, it's just going to be a good time. So check it out. There you go. That sounds pretty cool. That is tomorrow. Big thing going on with the radio station. Starts at 10 o'clock. Sweet. That's very cool.
At the end of the show on Fridays, I tell you a little bit about myself that you usually don't get a chance to hear during the rest of the week. And I call it my testimony. Basically what it is, it's my story. And it's a story that a lot of people can relate to. Because it is a story of addiction. It's a story of loneliness. It's a story of isolation. And in many respects, it's a story of abandonment and a feeling inside of never being safe. For some people, it was way worse than that. And for other people, it wasn't as bad. But the thing that's important to remember is that no matter how bad you have it, there's always someone that could potentially have it worse and probably does.
But the point is, is that for us, whatever it was like, that is our reality. And it's ours to deal with. I don't really know how to deal with it. And so as a young person, when I was growing up, when I found alcohol, that was it. Alcohol made me numb to the stuff that I didn't want to think about or feel or the ways that I felt different. And I felt very, very different. I could never really relate with other people because they never seemed like... They were like me. As a matter of fact, for the most part, I felt like they were probably a lot better than me. Part of it was the way that I'd been conditioned, but the other part of it was just who I was born as. And so the wrong combination for me was alcohol. But that's what I did. It was at its worst when I was in my early 30s. And it got to a point where...
to be very involved with my friends and with my family. And the more I was becoming addicted to alcohol, the less I would call, the less I would hang out with them. And eventually I wasn't calling anybody. Turning the phones off, turning the ringer off on my cell phone. I'd wake up in the morning, there'd be stuff throughout the house and I didn't even remember from the night before. My dad would say, that he had a conversation with me. I wouldn't remember it. And finally, my dad called me one time. He said, I really, we need to talk. And I drove up to see him. It was on a Sunday morning. And he told me that unless I stopped drinking, he couldn't continue to have a relationship with me. I left there and I went home and I drank the rest of the day. And I kept doing that for a while. And then one night I was laying in bed and I knew that if I kept doing it that way, that I was going to die. Because I was already really
bad physical things happening to my body. There's probably people listening right now that are going through the same thing, the same kind of addiction, the same feeling of isolation or desperation or loneliness. There's people that are listening right now that have lost somebody. Somebody in their life has died. There are people that are listening that probably feel like they don't have anything left to live for. They don't feel like they have any sense of hope in the future. Hope is the most valuable thing in the world because when you don't have it, there's nothing you can do to buy it or get it. So that's a very valuable thing, hope. Jesus Christ came into my life in 2002. He was really in my life for a long time, but it was 2002 that I decided that I wanted him to start leading my life.
Because up until then, it had all been my choices, my decisions. And I decided I wanted him to make some of them. I say some of them because at the time, I was only willing to give up a little bit of it. That's all he needed, though. He just needed a little bit of it. And then he did the rest. He's still doing the rest. Every day, he's making me new. But I can tell you that today, my life is so different than it was when I didn't have any hope. So at the end of the show, on Fridays, I tell you that story about what Jesus Christ did in my life. Jesus doesn't have a website, but my church does, and I'll give you my church's website, and the only reason I will is because there's a lot of people that are listening that go, I'm desperate, and I need something in my life, and that's why I tell you my story. The church's website is northcoastchurch.com. That's in North County. And if you live in central San Diego,
therocksandiego.org. I give you those because those are the two I've gone to and that I know. There are other resources on my website for depression, anxiety, eating disorders, addiction. If you're going through any of those things and you need help, go to mikeyshow.com and in the keyword section, just type in the keyword help and it'll take you to a website with all kinds of resources to help you out. I promise you, with every single bit of conviction that I have in my heart, that it can be different than it is right now if you're feeling any of those things, because it was for me. It is for me. Listen to the lyrics to this song. This band's going to be playing in San Diego at Cricket Wireless Amphitheater a week from tomorrow. They're called Third Day. The song is called Tunnel, and the song is just about hope. Hope. Really listen to the words of this song.
And the lovely and talented Missy is up next. Go check Eddie out tomorrow at the garage sale. We'll see you on Monday. Mikey shows up. Late. I got it. It was me, Ash. It was me. I hit the wrong button. Everybody gets to hear this song again. Late.
