Clay Aiken's coming-out announcement prompted an unsurprised discussion, while Eddie's discovery of Debra's elaborate New Kids on the Block archive exposed a much more unexpected fandom. Sean described his obsessive illness-testing routine and defended a proposed ban on young children in restaurants after 7 p.m., but Mikey and Eddie argued that the government should not punish every family for disruptive kids. Ashley's spectacularly wrong idiom definitions led to Village Idiom, and the crew turned doubts about Mark's praise of her cooking into a blind cook-off against Eddie. Sky reported both the alleged CHP ticket-for-sex scandal and how Travis Barker and DJ AM escaped a burning plane. Plans for the 28-hour show combined movies, games and Sean's beloved Star Trek tearjerker, while Jim Duffy connected his hot-sauce business to feeding local children and funding youth centers.

What happened, in order

  1. Clay Aiken comes out

The crew reacted to Clay Aiken publicly coming out after saying that becoming a father made him unwilling to raise his son around lies or secrecy.

  2. Inside a germaphobe's mind

Sean described taking his temperature, clearing his throat, gargling salt water and eventually isolating his sick wife at the first hint of illness.

  3. The New Kids shrine

Eddie revealed that his wife Debra had preserved an elaborate New Kids on the Block fan binder filled with clippings, drawings and glittery Donnie pages.

  4. Village Idiom

In the new Village Idiom game, Ashley confidently mangled familiar sayings and decided that “as the crow flies” described a boring person with a steady work ethic.

  5. Ban kids after seven?

Sean and a surprising number of callers argued for barring young children from restaurants after 7 p.m., while Mikey, Eddie and others objected that bad parenting did not justify a government ban.

  6. The ticket-fixing affair

Sky reported that a married retired CHP officer was investigated after a woman's speeding ticket was dismissed and the pair were later seen entering an Oceanside hotel together.

  7. Escape from the burning plane

Sky explained that Travis Barker and DJ AM survived their plane crash by sliding down a wing, stripping off burning clothes and tackling each other to extinguish the flames.

  8. Ashley's blind cook-off

The crew challenged Ashley and Eddie to cook the same dish for a blindfolded Mark after disputing whether his extravagant praise proved Ashley was truly a great cook or merely a beloved girlfriend.

  9. The 28-hour show

The crew mapped out a 28-hour broadcast with games, a date contest, a cook-off, movies, an outdoor screen and the return of a dangerously personal hot-seat bit.

  10. The Star Trek tearjerker

Sean passionately summarized the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode in which Captain Picard lives an entire alternate lifetime, while the others repeatedly derailed him with jokes.

  11. Hot sauce with a purpose

Hot-sauce maker Jim Duffy explained that sales from Refining Fire Chilis helped him feed children and support four church-sponsored Youth Venture centers in East County.
