Mike opened the show with the tragic Jennifer Hudson case, then spent much of the first half analyzing the Chargers' loss in London, focusing on the awful turf and Sean Merriman's comments about the missing pass rush. Later, Mike Singletary's disciplined coaching style was highlighted after his confrontation with Vernon Davis, and the show featured a light‑hearted Dumb Chick Challenge game, a worst‑tattoo contest announcement, and a teaser for the upcoming Chris Cornell interview about his new Scream album. London turf woes

Jennifer Hudson's mom and brother were shot and killed on Friday. Jennifer has offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to her missing 7-year-old nephew. The Chargers did not have a jolly good time in London. They forgot their defense in the States and lose a shootout to New Orleans 37-32. Norv Turner talks about the game in England. someday say, hey, they're glad they did it. And it's a great experience to expose the National Football League to Europe, to England, and obviously they saw a wide open world game. Eddie, if Phil Parcells was the head coach of... You can't ask me this every week. I don't know. Every week you ask me this. I mean, you can't... I just was... I don't know. It's never going to happen, so... Oh, man. Eddie, let me ask you. Let's see. Hillcower were the head coach of it. I don't know any of this. Fine. You can't live in that reality. I'm going to pose a hypo here. Just trying to put a hypo out there. I understand. Anything else, folks? I'm leaving. Fine. Eddie, three and five. But they're super. Look at Eddie. Antonio Gates and Phillip Rivers and LaDainey and Tomlinson. I said something on the pregame show yesterday that even kind of made sense to myself.
I said, you know, Laz says, you know, we were talking about the game last week. You know, this Charger team is better than this Buffalo team. And we're better than the Saints team. And I said, well, actually, hang on a second, Laz. I go, we have better individuals. We're not a better team. Yeah. We're not a better team than the Bills. We're not a better team than the Saints. We're not a better team than a lot of teams. Yeah. We have great individuals. Yeah. I mean, we got 11 Pro Bowlers on this team. Studs up and down this lineup, but they don't play like a team. And so until that happens, they're going to keep losing. Yeah, because when you think about it, that makes perfect sense. Because when you think about it, a team like the New England Patriots, they win yesterday. And they don't have their gigantoid stars right now. You know what I mean? So they find a way to do it. Which makes me think. Let's say Bill Belichick. We're the head coach of the San Diego Chargers. No, I don't want to do that. I don't want to participate. Oh, man. Three and five. Ted Cattrall's stealing money right now. I mean, it's just... Dude, was that terrible or what? The defense was brutal. It was atrocious. A slight reason, you know, I mean, this is not really a big excuse, but...
That turf in England was just awful. And so, you know, they literally had no footing. And so, you know, that gives all the... Why was it awful, like, compared to what they normally play on? What was the difference? You know, it's just not NFL caliber turf. You know, they don't have that kind of... Like, there's a certain standard here for what the turf should be. Absolutely. It's not even close. Well, don't they say it's where the surf meets the turf or something like that? I thought that's what the deal was. Old Del Mar. In old Del Mar. Not new Del Mar. Not new Del Mar. And, you know, it rains and stuff in England, and so it was just terrible. Fish and ships everywhere. Yeah, exactly. And, like, when you're on offense, you know where you're going. Yeah. When you're on defense, you have to follow that guy. Yeah. And so if your footing isn't as good, the advantage goes to the offense. Yeah. And so when it was a shootout and the Saints had more weapons. Yeah. Which doesn't make any sense to me, but... This is pathetic. Mm-hmm. But, I mean, little bright side. Oh, here we go. For your Monday morning. What do we got? What, what? LT looked fantastic. Yeah, yeah. He had over 100 yards. He was catching the ball. He was LT again. Antonio Gates, almost 100 yards receiving. He looked great again. Oh, yeah. So, I mean, a little bit of a bright side. I like it. But if you don't stop anybody on defense, it really doesn't matter. Yeah, my question for Sean Merriman today.
is going to be, so, Sean, is it really that different when you're not there? I mean, there's no pass rush. None. Zero. Yeah. I don't think Drew Brees was touched. Yeah, he was super comfortable as the game was over. He's like, oh, it was fun. He's like, oh, man, I don't even have a grass scene on my uniform. I can learn this next week. Yeah. I'm good. Oh, man. Yeah, it looked pretty bad. Let's see. All right, let's go around the room. Let's fire up the phones. 570-1053. I'm Mikey. In about a week, by the way, we're going to elect a new president. What? What? You guys. Where do I go? That's crazy. You know that? Where do I go? I know it. A week from tomorrow. A whole. Oh, there's too many props. I can't be bothered with this. I know. I can't keep them all straight. I know it. Study up. Do your sample ballot. All the puppies, right? Busy. What are those all about? Come on. It's not that bad. Oh, come on. Yeah. A week, a week, a week. So like next Wednesday, we'll have an, we'll know who our new president is going to be. Yeah.
What a chance. Black dude. Yeah, it's going to be a black dude. Probably going to have our first black dude president. You know, Rob Griffin, Griffith, my new co-host on the pregame show. Yeah, yeah. We were talking off the air, and he was telling me, you know, he's an African-American dude. And he was like, you know, honestly, man, he goes, it's crazy. He goes, my mom and all of those people in that generation. They can't believe what's going on. Like, it's not being made that big of a deal in the press that, you know, Barack is black and he's going to be the new president. But it's gigantic. It's crazy. Yeah, it is. It is. I mean, especially with our history, you consider our history and all that stuff. I mean, it's just, it's crazy. Well, I'm speechless now. Man, I wish he was a Republican. I'd even be more. I'd even be more behind it. Well, we'll see. We'll see. Okay, let's introduce. Let's get you texting us and calling in. Our number, 570-1053. And you can text us at 35253. So get on that sucker. The texting is fun. If you've never done it, it's very addictive. And it's really fun. And if you are not a text messenger to The Mikey Show, get on it.
What you do is you text the word Mikey to 35253, and then it'll send you a text back. It'll be like, what's up? And then you type back with what it tells you to do. And then you can text us from now till the end of time if you are lucky enough to live to the end of time. Wow, that's pretty impressive. That's right. I'm the host of the show. I'm 38. My name is Mike, and I was alone in the house this weekend, Rebecca and her mom and Jake. went on up to Laguna. They do this every year, like a girl-mom bonding thing. And I don't like being in that house by myself. What? That's kind of creepy to me. Really? I'd give anything. Really, man. I just, I'm telling you, dude, it's creepy. No. I need her to protect me and stuff. Light lights? What do you need? Because it's creeping me out. Light lights freak me out. I think they're eerie. You have cats. Those cats aren't going to do anything. They'll show the burglar. He's in there. I'll lead you. Let me show you where the expensive stuff is. I did that. I was just there by myself. She had a lot of fun up there. Jake had a lot of fun up there. They're back today. I'm real stoked about that. I have some...
giant new tomatoes to bring you guys. Eddie is our producer, our sports guy, and he also does, he was just saying it, he does a pregame show for the Chargers on the Chargers Radio Network right here on Rock 105. Yeah. And you got a new partner on that sucker. Yeah. He's a former professional football player. Real good. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, Robert Griff. As I call him. Have you already got boys? Call him Jeff? Yeah. He played for many seasons in Minnesota, Cleveland, Arizona. Yeah. So, I mean, he knows what's up, man. Is he the guy that's really into the draft or no? No, that's Corey Chavis. Well, that was cool. So this was your first weekend working with him. No, last week was first week. This is our second week. How's the chemistry already? It's pretty good. He's real good, man. He's real knowledgeable. And it's cool talking to a guy like a real modern era player. I mean, he's telling me, yeah, I was teammates with Randy Moss. I hit this guy. I hate Hines Ward because of this. Really? Yeah, dude, it's really cool, man.
He's got some insight. He played in the very first international game, regular season game, when he was with the Cardinals. Remember when the Cardinals played the 49ers in Mexico? Yeah, he played in that game. He said, dude, it's like playing in a Super Bowl. It was such a lame game as far as the standings go. But he goes, in the crowd, people were going nuts. We were warming up an hour before the game, and they were cheering. Every picture was going off. He goes, it was crazy. That's cool. So he goes, that London game is really cool. They'll appreciate it later. That's pretty cool. You know, for our chemistry, we do a lot of synchronized swimming in the swimming pool. It's Mikey's show. All seven of us will get in the pool. We put on our shower cups. Well, swim caps, yeah. Swim caps and we get in there and we just kind of... Shower caps would be weird. Yeah, that would be strange. I wear a shower cap. I know. I don't know why. I don't know that that's what you guys... Plus, you're bald. It's really weird. You don't even need it. It's really unnecessary to the extreme. That's why he doesn't wear it on his sky. That's right. How weird, then, that I wear it, too. Yeah. Yeah, that's right. Well, Skye is our news girl.
Yeah, she's 31. She is drinking her coffee right now, which has still probably got some temperature to it. A little bit. By the end of the show, it'll be cold. She'll still be drinking it. So gross. That's right. About 10.30, I'll ask Eddie if he would like a sip as we're walking back to the office. For some reason, he always makes a disgusted face. And turns you down. Yeah, it's weird. Maybe one day I'll take you up on it. Wow, that would really be something else. We'll see how it goes. It's really good. Iced coffee. That's right. Shawnee, oh boy, is our sound effects guy. And he's 38 years of age. And he's very tall and he does sound effects. So let's hear him, Sean. All right. And I am not going to stand here and see that thing cut open and see that little Kettner voice spill out all over the dock. There you go. That's a little clip from a movie. Interesting. And so that's what he does. He plays them. Then we have Ashley. She's our assistant producer. She is 25 years of age. And she is a blonde girl. And she does a lot of stuff. She does editing. She does behind the scenes stuff. She does stuff here on the air. And you will get to know Ashley through some of her works like Tone Deaf Karaoke. And now The Village Idiom. Some of her great works. Brilliant. That's right.
Boston Rob, 25 years of age, engaged to be married, big Boston fan from Boston, enjoys all of their sports except for hockey. They're not really that into it. I don't understand all of it. And moved out to San Diego without knowing anybody. He just decided, I need a change of scenery. Yeah, no more snow. That's right. And he used to plow snow for a living. Yeah. Mr. Plow. Oh. That name again. Mr. Plows. Mr. Plows. Nice. And then there is the artist formerly known as Sir Roosevelt, Zethian Oates III, Junior, Esquire, MD, DDS, President, and CEO. I've seen on TV. That's right. Rosie. That's our Rosie. He screens your phone calls at 570-1053. Call us right now. What's on your mind? What did you do over the weekend? What are you up to today? What's happening in your life? What's the new thing? Do you have a question? Anything you've got going on, you can call us right now. 570-1053. I don't know. Anything else you want to talk about? Not really. So we'll see you later. Yeah, give us a call. Chris Cornell will be in the studio today.
He played last night. So for that reason, he will not be singing, but he will be speaking. So we'll be asking him questions and doing an interview with Chris Cornell. Black Hole Sun. No, Eddie, that doesn't mean. Eddie. Wow, check out. No, Eddie, this is not. Well said. I love it. Wow. That is gorgeous. Wow. You're welcome. That's my favorite interpretation. Thank you. This text message says, Eddie, do you think Norv Turner's job will be on the line if things don't get better? Here's what I think we should do as Charger fans. Go ahead. Chant Marty at the next home game because that seemed to work last year. Turned everything around. It's a question from P1 Chef. Oh, man, I don't know. You know, if this team misses the playoffs. Yeah. It's a disaster. It's a disaster. And so, yeah, his job is in trouble. For sure. Let's see. Hello, Mikey Show. How are you guys? Just wondering if you guys have suggestions for Halloween parties. That's P1 Halloween.
Yeah. Go to Boo Ball. You should go to Boo Ball. Go to that. How was it? How was Boo Ball? Oh, yeah. It was Friday. I don't remember. That's done. You do not remember. Eddie, you hosted it. Oh, we did? Yes. Wow. I remember you and Ra were co-hosts. Yeah, you guys were co-hosts. You must have done great. You looked great in that place, buddy. Yeah, you were a good-looking fella. You were sharp. How was it? It was, you know, it was the usual chaos and debauchery as always. Where was it? It was in the catamaran on Mission Beach. Oh, okay. You know, so it was a cool venue. It was cool. It was the usual stuff. Packed and hot. Yeah, we were dying. Me and Rob basically hung out backstage the entire time because there was a balcony back there and we were just dripping sweat. You look so good, though. Yeah, we did. I don't know if P1s even know what you were. Oh, yeah, we were the Dumb and Dumber. It was a Dumb and Dumber. Tuxedos. Oh, Ashley must have loved it. It was one of Ashley's favorite movies ever. With the tuxedos. with the canes and the cat. Was it good? It was great. Oh, yeah. Only one disappointment was that there were imposters there with similar costumes. Only one, but we had them escorted out. Thank you. We will not be having that. Thank you very much. None of that. Why are you going to the airport? Flying somewhere? It's P1 Columbo on the line. Oh, yes. What's going on?
I just want to ask over what we thought about the Penn State-Ohio State game this weekend. Did you see it, Eddie? I didn't watch it. You didn't see it? I didn't watch it. I mean, I watched UFC. So, I mean, I watched the first quarter and then turned it off. So, I didn't see the – I mean, I know what happened. Are you a Penn State or Ohio State guy? Penn State guy. What happened? Penn State won. Sweet. Yeah, and they're moving up in the BCS. I mean, they're still third, but their percentile is moving up. Oh, exciting. Nice. Thank you, P1Colombo. All right, you guys have a good one. Thank you, brother. 570-1053 is the phone number. Speaking of the UFC, this text message says, Hey, Oracle, what did you think of that bizarre UFC fight with Silva versus Cote on Saturday? It really was bizarre, man. Why? Well, Anderson Silva is by far and away the greatest fighter going right now. I mean, he's sick. But for some reason... He decided, I feel like goofing off. What? I don't really like fighting. I mean, he was dancing in the ring. He was acting like Bruce Lee. What? Yeah, he was goofing off, like literally goofing off. And Patrick Ote was, you know, trying to fight. Oh, my gosh. And Anderson Silva was just goofing off. And then he got to the third round. Right? And Patrick Ote blew out his knee, like trying to hop on it and kick him. Yeah? His knee just pops.
And the fight's over. Oh, wow. And so it was like, really? So Anderson Silva, you danced for three rounds. Right. And then your opponent blows out his knee, and that was the fight. It was weird, man. It was really weird. Oh, my. The rest of the card was great, but that main event was bizarre. I cannot wrap my head around that. It was goofy. It does not seem like it at all. I think he's bored. I think he's like, you know, really? I've got to knock somebody out again. No, I feel like acting like Bruce Lee. Get two guys to fight him. Yeah, he'd still win. He would win. So how did it come off? Like, he's a crazy person? Like, he's an egomaniac? Not at all. He's just having fun? He's having fun. Really? You know, like, at any time, he can go, all right, I'm going to knock this guy out and do it. Can you imagine being that good where you're just like, yeah, just play a little bit? It was literally like a cat and mouse. That's crazy. Batting him around.
Text us at 35253 and we do open phones at the beginning and end of every show. So 570-1053 is the number if you want to call us. The other big news that happened over the weekend was this bizarre murder of Jennifer Hudson's mother and brother. They got killed. That's awful. Yep. It was a really terrible story. And her seven-year-old nephew is missing. Oh. Have they apprehended anybody or taken anybody into custody about it? Well, they have her sister, and her sister is the mother of the boy who's missing. Her sister's estranged husband, who is not the father of the baby. He's the stepfather to the boy who's missing. But they have him in custody as a person of interest. Okay. But they have not charged him with anything or said how, you know, it could be related. Yeah, really, really bizarre story. When did it happen, Skye? Friday. Friday, a neighbor, you know, went to the house and found the mother and brother shot dead, called the police. They realized the 7-year-old was missing and have been investigating ever since. This all went down in Chicago. So, you know, Jennifer Hudson has made pleas. She's put up a $100,000 reward. They're going to cover this story this weekend on America's Most Wanted.
So it's just really tragic. Chicago Police Department. Come on, you. Come on, Chicago Police Department. Oh, oh, oh, I know. I made a really bad error. How about this? That's still not doing it. Okay. Click on the JPEG. I got to buffer the web. Yeah. I'm trying to buffer up the screen. Oh, I hear it. I hear it. There it is. Is it buffering? I think I buffered it. Click on it. Ready? Yeah. Neighbors in the neighborhood did report hearing gunshots sometime earlier this morning, about 8, 9 o'clock this morning. Is there any sign of forced entry? No, there was no sign of any forced entry. We're not sure if anything's missing from the house. Let's see. A little bit more of the Chicago PD on the victims. The first victim was a female found in the living room floor with a fatal gunshot wound. The second victim was a male subject found in the bedroom with a fatal gunshot wound.
So that is a story that everybody's following closely. The other big story is, how's the market going to open today? It was gnarly on Friday, and they had to stop trading because it was so bad. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They had to stop it. Like the mercy rule? I guess. Well, there's something that they put in effect. Remember I was trying to tell you about it because that stock market crash? Yeah, when did that happen? It's like in the... It's in the 1500s or something, right? 1929. Oh! The computer crashed. They have like a... What time does the market open, Sky? Quote at 8? I don't know. 445? What time does that thing happen? I don't know. Is it 9 o'clock East Coast? I'm not sure. That's just a guess. I'm not sure. Let's ask George. Yeah, let's ask George Chamberlain. So we're going to be following that. Oh, you know what? Audio is great. I only saw about five seconds of it, and I was riveted. Yesterday, the new head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, Mike Singletary. He's awesome. Okay, so they fired Mike Nolan, okay? And as a replacement, they put Mike Singletary.
Mike Singletary is a former player. He played back in the 80s for the Chicago Bears. Very fiery guy. And so he's the new sheriff in town. And apparently he doesn't like shenanigans. Oh, no shenanigans. No. He is a team guy and not a fan of the guy that plays as an individual. Going out there and giving it 100%. And he is what they would also call no nonsense. Meaning that he's not a fan of nonsense. Oh, wow. Okay. And he will let you know if he feels that you are behaving in a way that is consistent with nonsense. And so his press conference yesterday after the game was gorgeous. Gorgeous. Gorgeous. It was gorgeous. Interesting description. When it ended, I said, rack him. He did something in-game that I don't know that I've ever seen before. Dude. I don't know that I've ever seen it before. Yeah. It was fantastic. Really? Yeah. Let's see. 570-1053. Our text number is 35253. You can call us right now. Let's get the week rolling. And what a show, man. What a show today.
Sean Merriman is going to be on the program today. In fact, he'll be on within 30 minutes. Chris Cornell is in the studio today. And if you saw his show last night, you're probably not awake. But if you are somehow, call us and tell us how the show was last night at House of Blues. We have the DCC, the Dumb Chick Challenge will be on the show today. We begin the worst tattoo contest today. So if you got a bad tattoo and you would like the grand prize of getting that sucker covered up, we'll be doing that this morning. Drink Cuban coffee and smoke cigars. They weren't saying the stuff that we had learned in Spanish class, you know. There are many books in the library. The tractor is red. Have a canary. Pretty. Pretty canary. Pretty canary. They are pretty.
I remember taking Spanish tests when I was in school. I would just take all the English words and add O to the end of them. I got an F-O. This is the Mikey Show. Information from Rock 105. I'm not a bad ride right now, but we do have emergency crews that are pretty much en route to an injury crash here being reported south of 163, just before Friars Road, where it looks like partly the slow lane is partly blocked here by an SUV. So use some caution getting that direction. Once again, that's south 163, just before Friars Road.
The rest of our freeways are looking pretty typical. South 15, you've got the pack up from the 78 to Villa Rancho Parkway. The coaster ride, South 5, a little bit slow now out of La Costa towards Solana Beach. And 805 northbound, bunching up here as you come up towards Home Avenue. Then again through Kearney Mesa over the 52. I'm Rick Lawrence on Rockwater 5.3. Have you heard the ads for Prop 8? The ones about teaching marriage in schools? They're absolutely not true, says California's superintendent of public schools. Prop 8 has nothing to do with schools or kids. Our schools aren't required to teach anything about marriage, says our school superintendent. And using kids to lie about that is shameful. What Prop 8 is really about is eliminating fundamental rights. The League of Women Voters calls it a major threat to our basic constitutional rights. That's why California teachers say no on 8. Major funding from No on 8, Equality California, and Human Rights Campaign. HRC California Marriage Pack. No on Prop 8. The Mikey Show continues with Mikey. I consider myself the perfect Mexican. Eddie. I love Christmas. Sky. problem admitting when I'm wrong. I'm just rarely wrong. Sean. You know, I'm really terrible at getting gifts. Yes. Boston Rob. Keeping it for tea. That's what I'm doing. That sounded hard. And Ashley. I don't get along very well. I don't think with, like, normal, boring people. Oh, come on. Wait a minute. It's the Mikey Show on The Rock. It's a Mikey Show. It is 640. Well, here's some good news. Gas prices are down over 50 cents in just the last two weeks. The Phillies take a commanding 3-1 lead in the World Series over Tampa Bay. Ryan Howard hits two home runs in their 10-2 route last night. Howard talks about his performance. To be able to have two home runs in the World Series, I think that's the kind of stuff you dream of when you're...
When you're a teenager, you know, getting to the game, obviously, you want to win also. But, you know, being able to do something like that and just to help my team win, it's a great feeling. Are you enjoying it, Eddie? Are you enjoying watching this World Series? Man, that's a great question. Enjoy? It's been okay. It's got to be weird not to have any investment. Zero. Absolutely none. I really, you know, no offense, Rob, I like the Rays. I like how young they are. And, you know, they're pretty exciting now. Their young stars are doing terrible. Evan Longoria hasn't had a hit yet in the World Series. He's probably just focused on Desperate Housewives. Can't get his head off of it. Trying to get pregnant. All that stuff. You know, and the Phillies have a real good team. You know, I like Ryan Howard. I mean, he's a stud. Chase Sutley, those guys, they're real good players. And it's kind of cool. Philadelphia hasn't had a championship in like 30 years.
And so, you know, they're freaking out, you know, obviously. 570-1053 is the number. The text number is 35253 if you want to text us. So I talked about it before we went to break. Mike Singletary. So, Eddie, explain to listeners what you'd never seen happen before and what you saw happen yesterday with Mike Singletary. Well, they're 49ers tight end, Vernon Davis. He has been, you know, one of those players who is more about celebrating and stuff like that than winning games. And he was a high draft pick a couple years ago and just hasn't really performed up to par. And yesterday in the game, he was tackled and he got up and slapped an opposing player in the face mask. Oh, yeah. You know, I think he got flagged for it. I'm not sure if he got flagged for it or not, but I think so. And Singletary was furious. And, you know, like basically, you know, Vernon Davis was trying to like avoid him. But Singletary like followed him over to the bench and kicked him out. Said, get your helmet and get out. You're done. Showers. Go back to the showers. Oh, my gosh. I don't need you here. If you're going to act like that, get out of here.
I've never seen, like during a game, a coach throw one of his players out. I've seen refs do it, but not a coach. And then held a press conference afterward where he talked about it. Cut 74. No, no, no. You don't want me to go much further. Go right ahead. Ask the question. Vernon, Vernon, just it was something that I told everybody at the very beginning of the week. I will not tolerate players that think it's about them when it's about the team. And we cannot make decisions that cost the team and then come off the sideline and it's nonchalant. No. You know what? This is how I believe, okay? I'm from the old school. I believe this. I would rather play with 10 people and just get penalized all the way until we've got to do something else rather than play with 11 when I know that right now that person is not sold out to be a part of this team. It is more about them than it is about the team. I cannot play with them, cannot win with them, cannot coach with them, can't do it. I want winners. I want people that want to win. The 49ers lost yesterday, but I'd sure like to give this guy Singletary a chance and see what happens. He doesn't mess around, man. Although I do need to point out to Coach that...
You actually won't get penalized for having less players on the field. You get penalized for having more players on the field. But less, you're good. You won't get a penalty. Whatever, Eddie. You should know that. Whatever, Eddie. You're right. I think I know. Yeah, I think I get where you're going with that. No, no. It's not the point, Eddie. My bad. My bad. He's a maverick, okay? That's right. That is true. He's a maverick. He's all about change. Yes. No, he was. He was brought here to San Diego to interview for the head coach job here when Marty left. Yeah, I mean, Eddie just gave that look like, meow. No. You know, like, yeah, there was a lot of guys that actually made the trip, sat in the office, went through the process. You know, you got to do that. Well, you know, it just stings hearing, you know, that's his philosophy, and that is the Chargers' biggest downfall right now. Eddie, let me ask you a question. No. Mike. Eddie. I can't keep doing this. Hold on. I wonder what Mike's going to ask. I can't. I don't. Let me ask you. Mike, go ahead. Eddie, what do you think the Chargers would be like if Mike Singletary was a... What do you think the... Shocking. What do you... Shocking. That's just one of those hypotheticals. Hypo, as we call him. Hypo. He would have thrown Eric Weddle out like, you know, he did with Vernon Davis. What did Eric Weddle do? Dude. Talk about it, Eddie. Talk about it. Oh, no. I think this...
Oh, no. Talk about it. Take a breath. I like Eric Weddle as a person. He's a really cool guy. Yeah. But what he did yesterday, I just, it's flabbergasting. I don't know. I don't understand. He made an interception. Yeah. Apparently. Yeah. And on his way back to the sideline, decided, I need to make this more about myself. Jumped up and down, did a little dance, and then a flip. What? which, of course, you get penalized for, 15-yard penalty, which gave the other team time to go, you know what, that didn't really look like an interception. Then they threw their challenge flag. It was overturned. And so it was just a disaster. And I go, you know, dude, you just made a great play. Get back to the sideline. Knock it off. Like, what is this about this team where they got to do these, you know, excessive dances and celebrations over making plays. That's not what this is about. Well, maybe they feel... Cannot win with them. Well, that's right. Cannot coach with them. Thank you, Mike. Mike, you're right. I want winners. Yes, me too. I want people that want to win. I got you. I got you. Thank you, Mr. Singletary. Mr. Singletary. You guys, he prefers Mr. Singletary, if you don't mind. My bad. Miss Jackson, if you're nasty. Can't do it. Can you do it?
Can't do it. All right, then. Well, Eddie, I wonder, you know, maybe, you know, with guys like Eric Weddle, somebody, they shouldn't let him do that. You know, they shouldn't let him do that. And, you know, so that makes me wonder, like, you know, if Bill Parcells would be allowed to do it. I'm just wondering. I don't know. I'm just asking. It's a hypo. 37 points on the board and you're doing flips. Bro. Chill your roll. Stop it. Yeah. Chill your roll, number one. That's my first. We're all thinking it. First and foremost. That is like the first and most important thing is chill your roll. And then, you know, warm your roll later. If you want to do it. After the game. If you so choose, Skye. Make it a cinnamon roll. They should dedicate an hour after the game to dance move. Yeah, yeah. You know what I mean? Bring out the linoleum. Whatever you want to do. Guys, go for it. If you just feel like you must dance, then it is about the team. Thank you, Mr. Singletary. I get where you're going with that one. Agree.
Mr. Singletary does not like what Eric Weddle was doing out on the field. He does not like it. Can't do it. Are you sure that you can't think about it and then tell me later if you can or cannot do it? That's what would mean. Can't do it. He's made up his mind. Can't do it. Can't do it. I'll tell you, though, with those little round glasses, it looks like he's going to calculus class. I'm going to be honest with you. I'm going to be honest. I wish that he would have had those crazy eyes when he used to play on the press conference. How crazy would he be? That was Singletary's thing is that his eyes would open up real wide when he was on the field. They would show pictures of him and he had these big, giant, round eyes. That was his thing. That and being good. That was his other thing. He was real good. He was coached by Mike Ditka. He's not messing around. I want people that want to win. That's right. Eddie, if Mike Ditka were the head coach. I was kidding. That's all. It was a hypo. I don't like your hypos. Just a hypo here. So Sean was painting one of the rooms in their house over the weekend and ended up getting dizzy and falling off a ladder. So, you know. What? Sean. Excuse me, Shawnee. What happened? Well, the problem was I was.
I was painting the baseboard, so I was, like, bent over. And then I wanted to go and finish up, like, the top where the ceiling meets the wall. And so I stand right up, and I start climbing up the ladder. And, you know, sometimes when you stand up real fast, you get a little bit dizzy. And so I started going up the ladder, and I started feeling really dizzy. And then I lost my balance. I fell back. There was a chair behind me. I fell back. I knocked the chair over. I fell on the ground, and the chair went right into the paint. Oh, my gosh. Splatter paint all over the place. Oh, my gosh. Did you, like, pass out? No, no, no. I just, I got dizzy, and so I started going backwards. And so I stepped back off the ladder, but my head kept going. Like I was still dizzy. And so I put my hand out to like brace myself. And that's when I hit the chair. The chair fell in the paint. I fell on the ground. The paint went everywhere. Wow. I ruined the chair. That's crazy. Yeah. That reminds me. What, Eddie? Something I did this weekend. What? I can't catch a break at my house. I really can't. Oh, no. I was at this. We have this, you know, kind of expensive.
you know, artwork, piece of painting, whatever, that we're going to hang up in our dining room. Yeah. And we were having people over yesterday, so I was like, well, I'm going to finally hang this thing up. And I was doing it by myself, and I was putting it on the hooks that I, you know, screwed in the wall. Yeah. And I missed the hook, and it completely dropped and shattered. Oh. Completely shattered. And I'm like, that's awesome. The picture? Yeah. Oh, that's brutal. Completely ruined. So what do you do? You have to take it back and get it re-like? I don't know. I really don't know. Yeah, you got to get a new piece of glass put in there, but sometimes that's more expensive than you paid for the whole thing initially. Wow. That's such an idiot. That's brutal. Our text message number, 35253. Mikey, is it bad to love a girl who's engaged? I fell for my work spouse and I don't know what to do. That's P1 Sharpie. She's engaged. Yeah, that's bad. I think that's bad. That is trouble. Can't do it. Yeah. Okay. Mr. Singletary says you can't do it. Can't do it. Let's see. This text message says Eddie.
Please tell me why Obama is on the cover of New Men's Health magazine. That's P1 Change. Obama. Yeah, Eddie, tell us all about you. Eddie, what's that about? Eddie, can you explain that, please? Why'd you make that choice, Eddie? He likes to jog. Oh, okay. That makes sense. That actually makes some sense. Oracle, all I have to say is 14 penalties for 134 yards. That's ridiculous, P1 Lemon. That is a lot. Killed him. Mikey, what do you guys think about Prop 8? That's P1 Denver Bronco fan. I say vote yes. Sky, what do you say? Vote no! We have very different opinions about Prop 8. Eventually we'll have to debate it, Sky. We'll have to get on here and do a debate. My text number is 35253. Our phone number is 5701053. Sean Merriman is next. You're a whining little kid. This is the Mikey Show.

Every Monday morning we do this. This is the Bud Light Sean Merriman Report. We have Lights Out Sean Merriman on. Lights, are you there? Hey, what's going on? How you doing, man? Nothing much. It's getting up. I'm about to go ahead and go work out. That's right. As you know. Sean had some knee surgery done earlier in the season. And we'll be back for the 2009 season. And that'll be a good thing. It'll be a good thing to have you back. So, yeah, yesterday was not a good day. And I said about a half an hour ago, when we have Sean on, I have to ask him, wow, does he really mean that?
that much to that defense because that defense does not look good. There's not a pass rush going on. You got guys that are a little undisciplined like Eric Weddle doing flips and doing stuff and having things go on. And I pose the question every Monday to Eddie. I say, Eddie, would this team be different if Bill Parcells were coaching them? Would this team be different if Bill Cower were coaching them? Would this team be different if? And it's one of those sort of hypothetical questions that fans end up asking themselves when there is no answers. And so what's the deal, Sean? What is the deal with this defense right now? You know, it's hard to tell exactly what's going on being in the locker room. As far as what I see, you know, just watching the game like everyone else, we can't have that amount of points being put up on us. You know, if you remember two years ago when I was out for the four-game suspension, I mean, we went all four games, and, you know, I just kept hearing so many things about how we can just win and we can just do this or that. We also were putting up 40 or 50 points a game.
We put up 40. We beat Cincinnati and Cleveland and a bunch of other teams with very high scores, and our offense shouldn't have to go out there and put up that amount of points. So we just have to play better defense right now. That's what it comes down to. We have one of the best offenses in football, but we can't go out there and just keep letting people put up those amount of points. What would you do if you were named the defensive coordinator of the Chargers today? You know what? There's not a whole lot much more you can do. It's up to the players to go out there and just make plays, period. You know, you can't get beat. You can't miss tackles. You can't get pushed around. Of course, you would like to see the playbook open up a little bit more, a little bit more blitz and a little bit more of everything. But as you see in the commentators we're talking about out there in the game, neither one of the teams could blitz that well yesterday. So they just really just stayed in coverage and, you know, had a lot of DBs in space. Are you getting any text messages, Sean? I know they were in London, so maybe you couldn't. But, you know, about the footing. Eddie was talking about the footing yesterday. Although, you've got to ask yourself, you're like, well, apparently the Saints were able to overcome the footing. But how much do you think that that has a part in it, the whole footing thing? I think it has a lot to do with it. It's very hard to go out there and get a good pass rush when the field is not a good condition.
And I'm saying that because I remember we played in Kansas City, and the field was just horrible. And they loved those kind of games because that puts us on an even level playing field. Whenever you've got a team out there with speed and get to the ball and do certain things, and we can't get a good takeoff off the football, we can't cut or change direction, they love it because that's not who they are. I'm talking to Sean Merriman. Eddie? Sean. You know, you talked about that you didn't mind going over to London and playing the game in London. But talk about coming off a loss and how brutal that flight had to be for those guys. I don't know if anybody goes to Vegas and gambles or have fun or whatever, but it's like that plane ride when you come home. You just lost a lot of money. Yes, I've done that. That same feeling you have in your stomach when you come back on that plane. It's a horrible feeling. Like, did that really just happen? Mm-hmm. Oh, yeah, you're just saying this can't happen. I mean, we flew way out here for this game, and we didn't have a good flight back. And that whole way back is just figuring out what you have to do as a player to help your team. Like, who was that girl?
Like, I don't even remember her name. Right, well. Bless you, girl. I don't know about that. I don't know that that's what everybody's thinking coming back from Vegas. Every time I go to Vegas. I don't know. What's this rash? Yeah, I don't know about that. Okay. We got Sean Merriman on the line. We're asking him about his thoughts yesterday watching the Chargers. This is depressing. Three and five. It's got to get better. And you look at the team and you go, come on, man. There's so much talent on the team. It's got to get better. And, Sean, if you were giving a rah-rah speech to these guys, how do you get these guys fired up and get them to start playing to their potentials? Yeah, I just tell the guys that we are much better than that. We're so much better than that. It's ridiculous to go out here. and be sitting as a team at three and five. And we're not only talented, but we're one of the best teams in the National Football League, and we're just not showing it right now. And I think at some point during the season, we're going to hit that stride. We're definitely going to hit that stride. It's just a matter of when, and hope it's not too late. Sean, did you watch any SportsCenter last night? Yeah. Did you see Mike Singletary's press conference? Yeah, yeah, I've seen it. Yeah.
The guy, let me tell you something. The guy's pretty no-nonsense. Shawnee, give me a second of Mike Singletary. You got it. No, no, no. You don't want me to go much further. Go right ahead. Ask the question. Vernon, Vernon, just it was something that I told everybody at the very beginning of the week. I will not tolerate players that think it's about them when it's about the team. And we cannot make. We cannot make decisions that cost the team and then come off the sideline and it's nonchalant. Thank you. So let me ask you, Shawnee. You know him. You know Vernon Davis. He went to Maryland. He's a friend of yours. Did you guys text yesterday? No, I didn't. I didn't talk to him yet. I didn't talk to him yet. I was planning on talking to him sometime this week or later this week. You give it a little time. I heard it was said. You give it a little time, though, right?
Yeah, but at the same time, I know, Vernon, we're pretty close. I know he was probably just pissed off and just did something that he's sitting back now, which he can take back. And Coach Singletary, he just wasn't going to take it. Now, what do you think, Sean? Are you down with that sort of really hard discipline type of coaching? Well, that's the thing about being hard and being disciplined and doing those things. I mean, I think it's fine him to come and do that because he's trying to change the team around. Now he's taking on that role. But that only lasts so long until you start winning. No, no, I agree with that, man. You can be as hard as you want. You can change as much as you want around. But if you're not winning, you can be out of there just like anybody else. I would appreciate it. I would appreciate it. Someone's coming in there and changing around because the best thing to do and what everybody wants around the organization is to win. So if that's what he has to do, then that's what he has to do. But it's only a certain point in time you can keep doing that if you're not winning. Right. No, I think that's a great point, man. I mean, it looks really great. And I'm sure it changes attitudes and everything. But if you're not winning when you're doing it, it's not going to make any difference and you lose.
everything that you've worked to kind of create with that kind of an attitude. So I get what you're saying. Well, of course. I mean, it's not so many guys going to take so much of that if you're not winning. If you're winning and everything is good around there, I mean, you go and tell guys that stuff and you put your foot down and that's fine. Well, hopefully next week it improves. Hopefully during this week. I know it's going to be tough because they're coming all the way back from London. When do they get back? Well, I think it's a bye week now. Yeah, we're going into a bye, but are they back today, or are they already back, or do you know? I don't know for sure yet, but I don't think they're back yet, I don't think, because of the long flight. I'm not sure yet, though. Sky, you got a question? Well, yeah, since it is a bye week, Sean, if some of the guys wanted to hang out over there and make it a mini vacation, are they allowed to do that? Yeah, could they stay? I'm sure I have to lose in that game. I don't think nobody wants to stay away. They've had enough. Get back to work. Well, and usually, Sean, that bye week helps, right? I mean, it gives you a chance to sort of study, but it also gives you a chance to heal your body a little bit, right? Yeah, I think that the bye week is mainly for healing your body, especially the timing. But it's so close to the middle of the season that you get this bye week. It's important not to have it too early. It's important not to have it too late.
Because if anything banged up on you or you're pretty hurt, it gets you time to rest. Usually, when there's no bye week, what you do is you guys are back to work on Monday, you get Tuesday off, and then back to work again on Wednesday. What about during the bye week? What happens during the bye week and do you get more days off? Yeah, you'll come in and just maybe lift a little bit and get some treatment and watch film. And the days are a lot shorter, and maybe a day or two we don't come in at all. And then the following week, we're right back on the same schedule again. That's kind of cool to give you guys a chance to have an extra couple of days. Yeah, I think as long as you're not out there banging on the field and you get a chance to lift a little bit, get some of your strength back, you know, get on the back, get eating habits back, whatever it is. I mean, you get that time to recover. And then you get back to a full week of practice the following week. Eddie, you got a question? Yeah. Sean, are you an NBA fan? Yeah, of course. I watch a lot of basketball. Who's your team? I'm a Lakers fan. Are you really? Yeah. Did you go to that game a couple weeks ago or last week? No, I didn't make it out. I wanted to, though. I was actually in L.A., though. What are you talking about when they played here? Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I was in L.A., and I wanted to come down for the game. What do you think the Lakers' chances are?
Well, now that Bynum's back, I think they're a lot better. Hey, Sean, what kind of candy are you giving out for Halloween? I don't know. How do you roll when it comes to Halloween candy? What up, man? Got to go get the king size, man. Last year, I had the lights on. I was handing out candy or whatever, and there was more autographs and things for me to sign and giving out candy. Yeah, that's funny. I just set up a desk in front of my house. There you go. Exactly, man. It's just as good. It's better than Halloween candy. Well, that's cool, man. Hey, when we talk to you, you got the time off. Are you at the house when we talk to you? Yeah, I just head out in the morning to get to working out before 745. Oh, okay. That's cool. That's cool. We got to talk cars one of these days, too. Have you seen Iron Man? No, I haven't. Oh, dude. What? Sean. What the heck is going on? I have it. Dude. You know, I have it somewhere in here, I think. Well, Sean. Watch it today, man. I'm not kidding. It's so good. And they have that Audi, I think it's the RS8 Audi. That's what he drives in the movie. That new 490 power Audi sports car. It's a great movie, man. You would dig it. Anyway. I'll dig it out. Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right, man. We got a bye week, so we won't be talking to you next week, I don't think. But we'll be talking to you the next week, man.
Okay, that'll work. We appreciate it. Thanks, Sean. All right, no problem. All right, we'll see you. Catch the Bud Light Sean Merriman Report exclusively every Monday on The Mikey Show on Rock 105.3. They're absolutely not true, says California Superintendent of Public Schools. Prop 8 has nothing to do with schools or kids. Our schools aren't required to teach anything about marriage, says our school superintendent. And using kids to lie about that is shameful. What Prop 8 is really about is eliminating fundamental rights.

What if we don't want to do that? Yeah, but let's do it. I say no, thank you. Let's try it. I say no. I'm good. Give it a try. A somewhat elastic moiety called the Dumb Chick Challenge. Dumb Chick Challenge. I have an announcement. Eddie, what is it? Please hold all your questions until after the statement is read. Will do. Here we go. Today. Monday, October 27th. Yes. 2008. Yeah. I hereby announce the reformation of the team of Eddie and Ashley. It's back. After one. Yes, yes. I have a question, Eddie, from the Hispanic Bald Guy Times. Yes. I peruse your magazine every once in a while. It's a good magazine, actually. It's pretty good. Yes. Thank you. My question is.
What brought about this reformation? Well, the reunion happened last week after our fallout. We felt very much like Simon and Garfunkel. We can't. Our music is better together than apart. We are very much hollow notes. Yeah, we are very much hollow notes. And so we. Mr. Papati. Yes. Mr. Papati. Annoying lady in the back. Yes. My name is Skye from the IamNotAnnoyingTimes.com. It's actually a website. They had to start a website. It's actually just a website. They had to start a website to answer the questions. I've never heard of that website. To answer the questions. Check that domain. I was wondering how your former teammate, B. Rizzle, is dealing with your departure from his team. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You were working with a lot. It was a shame. Just like Van Halen, there are some hard feelings when we dumped Sammy. Rob is the Sammy Hagar of Dumb Chick Challenge. But I think our music just deserves David Lee Roth, which is Ashley. Yeah, there you go. The fans were calling for it. The panda in the front row. Go ahead, please.
Yes, my name is Sean from Cowboy Flavor and World Report. Obviously. I would like to know, why was I never informed? Yes, that's a good question. Why was I kept completely in the dark? Yeah, that's a good question. Our readers want to know. Because Sean was Ashley's first face coach. He's finding out now. This was unfortunate. Miss site on our part where we completely forgot that you were even involved. I'm sure Rob would like to ask something of you. Yeah. Yeah. Boston Rob. It's Boston Rob from. The blog space, eddiemakesbaddecisions.net. Oh, that's a good blog. Yeah, yeah. Maybe, Sean, you and me can unite. It's not really a question, but... Maybe it's more of a... Yeah, you're just on my team now. Maybe it's more of a favor. You're on my team now. Hence my switching teams. Yeah, so you have to help me. Okay. There we go. That's a great question. Thank you. That's a great question. Good one. Glad you asked. Well, let's get this sucker on the road. Somebody needed to. Yeah, all right.
Here's how it works. We have three players in the Dumb Chick Challenge. It's Sky and Ashley and Boston Rob. They are the three dumb chicks. And what we do is we ask them questions. And the questions range. Please save that. Please send Sean that clip. Let's get smart. Questions range in difficulty. Ones are easy. Threes are hard. You got to get to five points. First person to five wins. So it goes from super easy. Kind of easy to eat. Really hard. The hardest question ever asked of man. So now you pick a horse. Let's get P1 Matt on the line. P1 Matt. Matt. Hi, Matt. Hey, B-Rizzle is Dill. Oh, look at you. You're taking B-Rock. Did you hear the announcement? Yeah. It's all right. Me and Sean got this. Hang on the line. I don't know about that. Yeah, we do. Oh, no. P1 MJ. Yeah. Who would you like?
I would love Sky. Oh, you got Sky. You got Sky. What's wrong with everybody? Did they not just hear the press conference? I know. Do you want Jeff? It's a delay. Yeah, I'm good. Jeff, Ashley is your girl. That's my girl. Very nice. Hang on the line. So, Eddie, who starts? My former teammate, Boston Rob, is in the leadoff position today. All right. There you go. Let's get some points on the board early. Let's do this, Mike. Sean. Sean. Sean, so what do you think I should go for? Sean has no interest, it looks like. Sean? It looks like he didn't have an interest in it. I'm looking at the situation, and right now I'm thinking, I don't care. Oh, wow. That's code. He doesn't want to give away what we're going to do. But, Sean, I think you're right. Let's go for a three. Oh, wow. Wow, Sean. You're very aggressive. On Sean's non-recommendation, we'll start with a three. I don't recommend anything at all. All right. Wow. We speak code. Your three-point question is, Rob, which Virginia resident was commander-in-chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolution? Which, oh, wow, look at Sky, looks so confused. I don't even understand. Yeah, the question was almost as if it were spoken in Greek. It should have been. But she's eating limes over there. That's right. That's right. Oh, boy, I didn't know how that tasted in the brain. That one made my brain sour.
I reject that question, Sky says. Which Virginia resident? I know Andrew Jackson resided in Virginia for a while. He's on the 20s, Sky. That's how you might be. This is your time. I know Vincent Jackson caught a touchdown in London. Jermaine is my favorite Jackson. George Washington. You know what? I'm going to go Andrew Jackson. Yeah, Andrew Jackson is incorrect. Oh, George Washington. That is correct. George Washington is... I made that difficult. You usually do. Sean will get him next time. That's right, Sean. Don't let that one get you down, Sean.
Ashley and her newly reunited bass coach, Eddie, are communicating with each other and looks like they've reached a decision. We are back. Wow. Things are running smooth. This is good. Ashley, what will you do? Give me a two, blue. A two-pointer. And I am blue. Who is blue? I'm blue. You're blue. Okay. Your two-point question is... Ashley, the electrical current you get from a wall outlet is called AC current. What does AC stand for? Later. AC Slater. No. Ashley looks confused. That's a tough question. That's a tough one, huh? One more time, and I'll give my answer. All right, here we go. I have to sneeze, and it's really throwing me off. There's something in my nose. Slowly breathe in through your nose. It's been driving me crazy all morning. Slowly breathe in through your nose. It'll make you sneeze. Pick it. Slowly breathe in through your nose. That usually tickles you and gets a little sneeze going. It is. It's ticklish up here, but my eyes are watering. I mean, we've got to answer this question. Okay.
Could you read it one more time? Do you mind? The electrical current you get from a wall outlet is called AC current. What does AC stand for? Okay. Air circulation. Air circulation. We win. Bingo. That is incorrect, Ashley. That's hard. I can't think of A. That's hard. That was hard, right? I'm thinking about an electrician. All right, I'm going to give you the A, and you tell me what the C is. The A is alternating? Circuits. Alternating circuits is incorrect as well. It's actually alternating current is what AC stands for. Alternating current. We'll get them next time. There's no way I would have ever gotten that. That's right. No way. Sky, will you do your thing? Two point, two point, one point thing. That's what Skye always does. Please, Mike. But we're holding out hope. This time she's going different. Well, she'll change it up. Yes. I will not. Not right now. Yeah, you will. You will. The pressure has to be on from you changing it up. You are changing it up now. Obviously, there's no pressure at this point. So I would take a two pointer. You want a two pointer. Please. Skye, what term is used to describe a person born between 1946 and 1964?
Baby boomer. You got it, Skye. You got it. Smartest girl in the room. Oh, I know it right away. Let me show you my big brain. King of the castle. King of the castle. King of the castle. I already forgot my answer. Alternating current, Ash. It's alternating. Yeah, that's right. Well said. Boston Rob. Sean has been... Really helpful. Yes. Amazingly helpful. So in your ear. I'm not participating. You couldn't have done it without him. I really, I can't do anything. He's really amazing as a coach. He's almost like two months between us. I think he's wanting me to go with another three. What do you say, Sean? No idea. Yeah. Oh, yeah. That's him. Yeah, that is a coach. It's not coached at all. I'm so jealous of your skills, Sean. Yeah, Sean. I'm not involved with Rob anyway. I just call myself Team Sean.
Is that right? Yeah. In honor of my coach. Actually, don't do that. In honor of my coach. So, Sean wants you to take a three-point. Yeah, he does. I did not say that. And I obey his orders. Here we go. Let's do this, Sean. Your three-point question is, what is another name for the steam organ that was often played on riverboats and in circuses? Oh, wow. Look at that face. Rob looks like he's about to whistle. I think he's bagpipe. Wow, that one really confused Rob. He's blinking. He's blinking heavily. Sean? Don't pass out. I might. Yeah. Blood is rushing to his head. Try to get that brain working. The name of... See, at first, when you said steam organ, I was thinking, like, thyroid, liver. What type of organ are we talking about here? Oh, man. That is weird. The hot, Mike. Is it the hot? Another name for the steam organ that was often played on riverboats and circuses. Bell movement? That is. What's the temperature? Yeah.
On said riverboat. Is it called a sauna, Mike? Jacuzzi club. Oh, calm down a little bit. Oh, but the steam organ is its own instrument. Calm down, everyone. Sean, tell them to back off. I will not. Does that thing have a name there? Fod, Mike. Robert. Five seconds, Rob. One, two, three. The organ. That is incorrect. Cello. I was thinking Cello. They call that sucker. They call it a calliope. Totally. Totally calliope. Wasn't she on Melrose? Uh-oh. It's really good. Next up is Ashley. She's looking at Eddie, her first base coach. He's giving her some direction. Still a little hurt. Give me a two.
Another two-pointer, and I will be shoe. I am shoe. Stay the course. Your two-point question is? We shall not stray off. That's a very famous quote. Well said. Ashley? Get off that course. Well, I'm just saying, you're the coach. You're telling her to stay the course. We have a game plan. That's right. Why is she doing that? The game plan thus far has not necessarily. We've got one question. One question. Let's bring them back to life right here. Here we go. Oh, no. Calm down. Ashley, a natural component of the skin. What versatile protein is used to remove wrinkles and make gelatin? This is a natural component of the skin. What is it? It's a versatile protein that's used to remove wrinkles and make gelatin. What is that called? Is it chicken, Mike? Jello. Oh, Bill Cosby. Yes. It's called pudding. Shut up. Oh, I know. Pudding in a cloud. Chocolate pudding.
Nilla. Nilla pudding. Uh-oh. Is it bread pudding? It's not a part of the body. What versatile protein, Ashley? Versatile protein. Of course. Natural component of the skin. Yes. Is used to remove wrinkles and make gelatin. Uh-oh, she's squinting. That's not good. You've heard her. That's not good. Oh, no. Fascinating. Vaseline? Natural component of the skin. That's not a natural component of the skin. You know, I donated some Vaseline. I shot some Vaseline in my lips. What on my skin prevents wrinkles? Vaseline does. This is a natural component of your skin. It's a protein. And your skin uses it to remove wrinkles and make gelatin. Vaseline. Sweat. I was going to say.
I'm just going to say epidermis. Epidermis? Yes. I don't know. I don't know. Epidermis milk. That's incorrect, Ash. How else do you make jello then, Mike? It's milk then, obviously. Milk. Like, you use that? What did she just say? She just said saliva. No. What are you shooting to your lips to make them all full? Yeah, and clumpy. Yeah, spit on your skin. Okay. No, what do you inject? If you were to inject. Botox. No. Collagen. We have collagen. We own collagen. Yeah, we just bought it. We just bought it last week. Collagen. Collagen. Collagen. Is in our body originally. We own collagen. When did we acquire that one? When did we buy that? Like a protein. And then we give ourselves extra. Lamb chops? Smooth things out. That's right. I have no idea. This is actually all really educating. Yeah, you learn something new. I didn't know. Educational. Oh, I'm so sorry. I'm with you, kid. Oh, is the team fighting already? Not at all. She laughed out a little. It's fine. Sky. I'd never do that. Sky. We're fine. Are you going...
Two-pointer here. Oh, she's waving yes. Yes, she is. Get it wrong. Get it wrong. Get it wrong. There it is. There's the chant. From his one-man team. I didn't hear Sean on that. That's right. Nobody really taken part in that. No, Sean was silently. Oh, it's your thing. Like, you silently mouth Bo Bice to him. And then he silently attacks me. Actually, no. That is really cool. Actually, what it really is is I don't participate in one. That's not good. That's not good for you, Ryan. Sky, your two-point question is, what? Actually, let me change this and say it differently. Napoleon Bonaparte led the army of what nation? You know this. Can you shut your mouth? Oh, no. That's not good. That is not good. When Sky points at Rob and says, quote, will you shut your mouth? That was awesome. Ready, Sean? Let's attack. Sky has kind of smiley face. I'm trying to pull all my Bill and Ted knowledge. Okay. It's all Bill and Ted.
Somewhere in Bill and Ted, they had to have said this. Well, he was in it, Mike, and then they went to Waterloo, which is a water park, and then, you know, they ate the piggy sundae, and he wouldn't share. Talk it out. Talk it out. He likes water slides, and he enjoys sundaes, but he's kind of selfish. Yeah. So it must be Atlantis, Mike. I don't know. Oh. I don't know at all, so I'm going to say France. That is correct, Skye. She should not be allowed that. Skye has four points. Not be allowed that. Thank you. I'm a good guesser. Skye only needs one more point to win the game. I guess. Good. With my guesser. Next up, Boston Rob. I have to go three, Mike, because I've got to catch up. You've got to catch up. Here is your three-point question. Yeah. Let's make it an easy one. Go on, Riz. What makes... Boston, Rob. I appreciate that. What makes a horse a gelding? This. What makes a horse... This whole question. What makes a horse... Well... I was way off. Uh-oh. Rob just shook his head. No, I don't know. You're fine. It's in there. Maybe. I had a nickel for every time I was asked this. Yeah, I know. You know this. I'd have one nickel. You can't escape this question. Hey, were you... Oh.
What makes a horse a gelding? Mm-hmm. Geldings. They're usually four-legged. Geldings are always four-legged. It doesn't change anything. And... Don't be doing that. Not the shape of a mouth. You really said mouth. I can't. I can't today. I can't today. I understand where you're coming from. I need you. With a hoof. A hoof. Can you answer? Rob, will you answer this, please? Just give something to us. A hoof. It's a pull. You know, the foot. Rob, you are smarter than this. You can do it. Stop encouraging the other team. You're hurting your girl. No, it's not like that. I'm not taking this. We're fine. Not today. This is the one day. Just today. But I'm just not going to take it from you. Just today. Come on, bro. Stop. It makes it a gelding because of the feet. The hooves. The pull.
That's incorrect, Rob. Gelding? Because they can't swim? No. They can't fly? No. Their hair is used for violin strings? No. Weird. No, Rob. A gelding is a castrated male. That ain't sitting pretty. You're upsetting your girl, Eddie. I'm not doing anything. You are doing everything. You're doing everything. I just want to say, when you were my coach, you were one of the best I've ever had. Thanks, man. I really appreciate that. It really impacted my life. Ashley, your first base coach isn't even looking at you right now. What's happening? I mean, I've been doing my best. I don't understand what the problem is. I don't understand that. I mean, I thought he's supposed to be giving you some sort of sign or signal. He's not even looking at you.
What are you going to do? He just kind of shrugged. You're a piece of junk. Oh, wow. Excuse me? Not today. Here's to you guys reuniting. You know what? This is over. This partnership is over. I do not need this disrespect in my life. I offer my services back. This band is disbanded again. Coincidentally, Sean, you're fired. Yes! We're back! How did I get fired when I was never part of it? Sean, you are out of here, man. I'm sick of your silence. Rob and Eddie are a team again. Ashley, what are you going to do? See ya, wouldn't want to be it. I need a winning horse. Ashley says she doesn't care. She don't give a rip. I can give two rips, Mike. Wow. What are you going to do here? Epidermis. Ash. All epidermis. I bet you would. What will you do? Oh, Sean, he's back in action, Ash. Sean's giving you the signal. Instant support. I like this. He's doing it with the pinky, the ring, and what we call the flip-off. Okay, well. That's right. The flipper. The flipper. Okay, this is really special, and I'm going to say give me a three. Oh, horrible strategy.
She's good at these threes, Mike. Sean suggests a three-pointer. Sean, she thought the body made Vaseline. I didn't understand the question. The wording was strange. It was weirdly worded. It really wasn't. Here we go, Ash. Your three-point question is, what celestial body can nothing escape from, not even light? It wasn't listening. Hey, Sean. I just said it. I just. Hey, Sean. That was impressive. Pay attention. That was impressive. That is your girl. Here we go. Get it. Get it, girl. Ashley, are you ready? Let's go. I am. Ashley, which celestial body can nothing escape from, not even light? What do they call that? And that's a three-pointer? That's a three-pointer?
It's like Skye's baby boomer question. Hey, Mr. No points. Keep it down. Celestial body? Yes, which celestial body? Mine. Sexy. Don't make it too hard. Make it as tough as you want it to. Just take the words you know and roll with those ones. All right, which celestial body? Body? Apple cat. What? Apple cat? Two words I don't know. Which celestial body... What's the rest of it? Which celestial body can nothing escape from, not even light? Oh, she's fanning the air. She's fanning the air. She knows this, if she can just understand the question. Nothing can escape, not even light, from... That or what makes a horse a gilding. From... It's really bitter. I'm going to say the black hole. That is good. That is correct. Ashley just nailed a three-pointer and tied the game. Sean is a great coach. One of the worst. She just tied the game. No, she did not. Wow. Wow. Sky has four. She has three. Oh, whatever. Tomato, tomato. Sky has four. She has three. That's right.
Sky is leading by a point. Sky need only answer a one-point question now to win the game. Here we go, baby boomer. Let's do this. Come on. Here we go. Here we go. Come on, Mr. Gilding. He was my favorite. Sky? Yeah? Your one-point question is... Okay. What swanky style of swimming pool creates the illusion of a never-ending horizon? That is... No. That was mean. She's really upset. That is an infinity edge. Sky wins, ladies and gentlemen. An honorable mention to Ashley. Ashley was answering an easy question. It was a three-pointer, bro. Oh, please, with your Vaseline. MJ? Good job, yeah. Sky did it for you. What did she win? She gets to go see
The WWE Smackdown tomorrow night. Nice. Check it out. Nice. That's awesome. Good job, Sky. You're my girl. Very, very nice. When we come back, Sky has a list of the ten most disappointing treats for trick-or-treaters. Eddie, you immediately probably have some ideas on that, right? Absolutely. It's next. You guys get a lot of questions this morning that people will pick on Sky or Ashley or giving Eddie or Sean stuff. Every one of you are great. Thank you. The Mikey Show continues on The Rock. There was a gigantoid drop in the Dow Jones Industrial Average this morning. I heard they actually had to stop trading this morning. They do, like, pre-hours trading early in the morning. And the software, like, shut everything down because it was going too low. That's their safety net. Yeah, they'll stop it. Yeah. Ever since the crash of 29. Yeah, the computer set it down. It's called HAL 9000. No, the stock market crashed in 29, so they had to come. I think you know it's like Norton Antivirus. Yeah, I think they were running in Norton or whatever. They thought it was spam back then or something. I don't remember. I don't remember the particular digibike. Yeah, I know. What was that? Welcome back to Mikey's show. I spilled a bunch of coffee in the studio. So we've been spending the last five minutes trying to get coffee cleaned up. Welcome back. It's 8-12. Amy Poehler missed out on Saturday Night Live this weekend when she went into labor Saturday morning. The Buffalo Bills have rewarded their head coach, Dick Duran, with a three-year extension. Welcome back, everybody. Our phone number here is 570-1053. And our text number is 35253. Before we went to break, let me read you some of these texts. And then we'll get to the...
The trick-or-treat things. The top ten list of most disappointing treats for trick-or-treating. Can we guess? No, not yet. Let me read some text. Just get your thoughts ready, Rob. I got it. Eddie, this text says, Eddie, why is it called a bi-week? What does that mean? Where did the term come from? And does anybody know? That's P1 Bradley. Man, I have been trying to see the origin of where that comes from. It doesn't say. How it started, it just says what it means. Usually a bye in a tournament means that there's an odd number of teams or whatever, and so one team will get a bye. But a bye week and its origin, I have no idea where it came from. Look at the Latin meaning bye. It's two, correct? So you figure they got one week. And then no game. And then the next week. Yeah, there it is. Maybe. I kind of like Zeth's explanation. You know, that's the week where you just say bye. Bye-bye. Bye-bye. Bye-bye. Bye-bye. Say bye for a week. Mikey, just wanted to let you guys know that I paid $2.69 a gallon in Ramona yesterday. Okay, show off. Have a good day. That's crazy. $2.69 a gallon? Yeah, it was like $2.90 something when I was driving up the street this morning right here.
Now, I've heard people say that this is because of the election, blah, blah, blah. Yeah, dude. Okay, but how come, I don't know about that. I think that's easy, like, it sounds good when you say it. Maybe it is, but all I know is, like, I don't know who you would put it on and say, oh, yeah, you know, the prices are lower, and that's why you should vote Obama, or that's why you should vote McCain. You know, like, I don't really know, nobody's going, nobody is out there saying. Yeah. You know, the reason that. Prices are down. But it happened in February. It's because I did it. What's that? Super Tuesday? I don't know. Super Tuesday in February? Yeah, yeah. Remember? Is that when it is? What's he talking about? I don't know. Back in February. Don't we have this thing called Super Tuesday? Yeah, that's when you vote. That's when you vote. Super Tuesday when you vote, yeah. Gas dropped like 40, 50 cents. And then... Two weeks later, it was skyrocketing. Did it really? You don't remember that? Uh-uh. Oh, yeah. I did a blog about it and everything. You did? Because it's Super Tuesday. I mean, it dropped. Well, what is it? I don't understand. Well, they're saying now that it's due to the crash in crude oil prices and also the U.S. demand for gas has gone down. So they're saying that, you know, they're not crediting one party or another in anything I read this morning. They're just saying because of, you know.
The crude oil prices because of the economy. Well, what is it, Rob? Let's think the thought through. So if it has to do with, like, you know, the election, like, talk it through. Like, help me out. How does it work? Because I was wondering the same thing you were. I was like, well, you know, who's responsible? Or shouldn't someone be plugging themselves going, you know, look at how gas has dropped and blah, blah, blah. Right. But I think it's just in general, people, you know, don't feel as much stress and they're not as, you know, like. But what does that have to do with the election? I don't know. There's got to be some kind of... See, that's the deal. I don't see the connection. That's what I'm... When I've heard it, there has to be, though, because there's no way that... I think we have one man to thank. George Bush. Yes. Thank you, Mr. Bush. Pay attention to it. Come election day, whenever that is, I'm going to get a couple of those gallons of gasoline and go to the gas station and fill them up. It may be true. Maybe that is why. I just want to, like...
Have an explanation to it. Like, what's the thinking with it? I want one, too, Mike. Mikey Show. Yeah, Mike, I want to know where I can get one of your greatest hits CDs or something. You know, it's funny that you ask. Because I'm going on a road trip. Nice. It's funny that you ask because the Mikey Show is going to have a new Best Of CD. And we are going to have information coming out about that very soon. So keep listening. Say what? Is there like an old one I can get? I think we sold out of the old one, right? I don't think we have any copies of the old one because I think we sold out of it. Sorry, brother. But you know what I would do if I were you? Go to our podcast and download some stuff and put it on a CD for yourself. I love technology. I love technology. Thank you very much. This text message says, Mikey, I got mistaken for you three times this weekend. He says, it's pretty funny, but when I tell people I'm not you, they don't believe me. Let's be on Trashman. Is that Seacrest? Is that? You think? Yeah. It happens a lot. I'd like to be Seacrest. Yep. Trashman, send me a picture. I want to see how much alike we look. And I'll post it on our website and say, which one is Mikey? That's cool. Okay. So, Sky has a list of the 10 most disappointing treats for trick-or-treaters.
Well, I know it's one of Eddie's favorites, but I have to say candy corn. Oh, that's the best. What do you mean? Well, because you usually get candy corn, you know, like they just like throw a couple, like a little handful of them or something. Delicious. Yeah. Candy corn is on the list. They say. What number? Or do they just put them in no particular order? Yeah, they don't. What about those like goofy, stupid plastic spider rings? Yeah. No. Surprise. That should be on here. Those are the worst. Yeah. Apples. Apples are definitely on here. Razor blades. No pennies. Tootsie Rolls. Tootsie Rolls are on here. Tax tips. What? 401Ks. Smarts or whatever. Smarties. Smarts, yeah. Whatever. That's fantastic. Screw that up. How ironic. She skipped the smarts house. We got some irony up in here. Yes, they put smarties. And Necco wafers in the same category. What is a Smarty? Well said. I don't know how to describe it. I can't handle you. I know it. Even I hate me for this one. What is a Smarty? What does it look like? They come in like a little roll. They're like really, really tiny. They're pure sugar. It's like if they were to crunch those up, that's what would make like a pixie stick. Yeah. You know what a pixie stick is? Yeah, yeah, yeah. So they're like pure sugar, just real tiny. They're wrapped in a little clear piece of plastic, probably about that big. Yeah. And it says Smarties on them. That's lame.
You don't want to give that to a kid. I like Smarties. That's no candy bar. I love Smarties. Really? Yeah. That doesn't seem like very much. Those other ones, those Necco, those are like chalk. You don't want those. Smarties are the bulb. All right. What else? Paperclips. Teddy. Pennies. I gave that one here. No. VHS tapes. Tom Cruise movies. That sucks. Pencils. Lab results. Do we give up? Junk mail. Sugar-free candy. No. Gum. What are those candies that come on white popsicle sticks? You know the round white? Picture the white stick that a popsicle comes on. But there's like this kind of...
Powder? Deal that's shaped like a funnel. Do you guys know what I'm talking about? It's shaped like a long skinny funnel and it's candy on a popsicle stick. Do you guys know what I'm talking about? I think it's fun dip. Maybe I dreamt it. But the funnel thing is throwing me off. Because there's this candy. that is in powder form, and you use that stick that's edible, and you dip it in there. Talk about it. Licamade. Licamade. Licamade. I know what you're talking about. Yeah, dude. I want one of those. Love that. But what I'm talking about is actually a, you know, it's almost like a popsicle or like a sucker. Ring pop? Mm-mm. Ring pop. Out of what he's describing, you thought that was a ring pop. Man. What? Oh, dude. Oh, we got people calling to guess. Terrible guess. P1 Hydroponics. What do you think? Those oversized orange peanut things are all soft and gooey. Those things have always been foul. What is that? I don't know. I know what he's talking about. I don't know what they're called. Those things are nasty looking. Yeah, not on the list. Not on the list. Circus Peanuts. P1 Matt. Matt. Matt. Matt. Matt. Matt. Let's say wax lips.
Those are horrible. Oh, those are terrible. Oh, you know what a good? Yeah, not on the list. The fake little soda bottles that are waxed and you bite them and drink it. Oh, those are awesome. P1 Josh. So refreshing. Popcorn balls and toothbrushes. Toothbrushes is on the list. Your mom used to give those out. Didn't she, Skye? Those are the worst. Oh, yeah. My mom would have the combo bowl of the... Penny, spider rings, toothbrushes, basically anything you don't want is enough. Wow. Your house would have been ruined after I went to it. Has she changed or does she still do that? She has changed, yeah. What does she do now? She now does the fun-sized candy bars, but they all have to be all natural. She gives away all-natural candy bars. There's a lot of candy bars that are natural. Like Almond Joy, Hershey's, these are all-natural candy bars. They are? Yeah. Almond Joy is an all-natural candy bar? Yeah, dude. Coconut. Yeah, but I figured that they have preservatives and all that junk and all that stuff. I don't know. I'll have to read again, but yeah, last time I don't think so. Her main deal is food coloring, but yeah, she's against the preservatives too.
Yeah. But anyways, that's how she rolls. I didn't know that that was an all-natural candy bar. Maybe I'm lying about that. I'm eating the five of them today. They're all natural. Well, that's not what that means. They still have sugar and fat. I'm on a new all-natural diet. It's not chemicals. I want to eat all-natural. I can do that. P1, what's hampooning is on the line. Hey, guys. You know, I think you just said it, but I was going to guess almond joy amounts. Is that on there, Sky? Not specifically. I'll give you this one because this one's going to be tough to guess. They say anything that is fun-sized. They don't care for it. You just said that was your mom's. Now, fun-sized are the tiny ones, right? What's wrong with those? I don't know. You give a handful. You don't just give one. That's probably where they're at. You go to a house and they give you one fun-sized. That's terrible. You're not happy. Hall of Famer P1 Quimby is on the line. Hey, what about sugar daddies or sugar babies? What's a sugar daddy? What's a sugar baby? Too chewy. Yeah, they're awesome. A sugar daddy. Send me the link. A sugar daddy is like a caramel. It's on a stick, and you just chew it for like days. I thought a sugar daddy is a guy that pays for his young girlfriend to live in an apartment. That is also what it is.
Multiple ways. Yeah, I guess there's a few ways to skin a cat. Thank you, Quimby. All right, what else do we have, Skye? Okay, the things we missed. Laffy Taffy. No way. I love Laffy Taffy. I love them. Are you crazy? Abba Zabba, you're my only friend. Are you crazy? I'm Googling Laffy Taffy. It's delicious. Mike, you don't know. I don't know what anything else is. I don't know what things are. Mike! I can't handle you today. But you guys know that. You guys know I don't know stuff. You don't figure it out. I know. I know. If there was a refresher course, I'd take it. I don't know any of this. What about gummy worms? Those things are awesome. Yeah. Rock candy, those are awesome. We're not listing awesome things. I am. I'm just going to list awesome. And you're wrong. Yep. Wrong about what? Gummy worms and rock candy. Prove it in court. Get out of here. Prove it in court. I'll tell my next witness, Mr. Goodbar. How do you feel about... Delicious. Hey, jawbreakers. Talk about it. You know what? Discuss. I like them. I don't have the attention span. I like gobstoppers. I love them. Skye, is Laffy Taffy just basically any taffy? No. Oh. Hot tamales. Neither hot or tamale. Discuss. Love it. I love it. It's a little warm. It's not hot, but it's a little warm. I love it. Oh, dude, this is burning your mouth. Oh, God, Sean, it's me. Don't get out of here. You know what the hot is? It's cinnamon. Yes. No, it's not. No, no, no. It's cinnamon.
It's not cinnamon. It's cinnamon oil. It's the oil. It's very hot. I'm on the fire. It's very hot. I'm on the fire. Send me a call, Kaiser. Also on the list, miscellaneous. I heard it. I'm ignoring it. I thought she didn't hear it. Also on the list, miscellaneous wrapped. He's stoked on that. Right? No, this isn't the best list. This is the worst list. Miscellaneous wrapped hard candies. Miscellaneous? Oh, like the farmer. Like the farmer melon. Where are their melons? The hard melons. Farmer's Johns? Watermelon? Farmer's Johns? Farmer's Johns. You need to stop making up candy, dude. What are those things called? Farmer something? Don't they have something farmer in us? No, those are hot dogs. Is he talking about the butterscotch? The worthers? No. What are those little clear green red candies? Jolly ranchers? Jolly ranchers? Wow. That's what I was thinking. Farmer and rancher. Jolly rancher. Yeah, jolly farmers.
Wow. I didn't have a childhood. You understand this, right? You understand this, right? Okay, okay. I thought it was Jolly Farmers. Yes. Check it. Give me some of those. No, no, no. They're called Really Joyful Farmers, right? Aren't those what those little candies are, Really Happy Farmers? The Happy Farms. Right. Wow. Also on the list, Dum Dums. They're the best. Dum Dums. I forget what those are. Oh, those are the little suckers? The little lollipops, yeah. Oh, those are great. You know what suck? What? Dots that have been in Eddie's drawer for the past two years. That is true. And he still feeds them to me. And you still eat them. Well, they're dots. Yeah. You can't let a dot go waste, right? No. You can't let a dot waste. And then finally, finally on the list, we have raisins. Oh, yeah. boxes of raisins. Now, what is that brand called? The little red with the girl on the front of it? Sunmade. What about Raisinets? Those are good. I love Raisinets. I don't know that I love Raisinets. Raisinets with goobers? Delish. You are really on one. Rob has a lot of opinions. He's really on one. They're awesome. What about Junior Mints? Okay. The Junior.
I've had a lot of candy bars. I've had virtually no candy. Virtually none. Like, all of these that you guys mentioned, I've not tried. You gotta go to, like, a candy shop. Like, I think they got them at the mall. The mall. And just go and fill up a bag with a bunch of stuff. Candy honestly does nothing for me. No, but just the experience. Have you ever had nerds? Oh, man. You've never had nerds? Can you go trick or treating, bro? I just... Candy doesn't do anything for me. I like candy bars. Were you thinking whistle pop when you were doing the funnel? What does it look like? Can you Google it? It's like a whistle. Let me see. It's like a candy whistle on a stick. I have. It's like a whistle made out of candy, like made out of lollipop stuff. Let's see. Yeah, and it gives you inside the wrapper. It shows you how to play songs. Yes. Oh, dude, those can annoy people for hours. If you want half a pint, that's not it. That's what you were talking about. That's not it. Okay. I wonder if I can find the thing I'm thinking of. It's multicolored, the thing I'm thinking of. Are you talking about those rocket boats? I think that's what it is. But that's ice cream. No, no, no. It's like clear, and it's different colors. It's like red, green, and yellowish. That's very close to what I'm thinking, but that's impossible. What about mambas? Those are bop. Mambas are gross. Those are so good. Strawberry and raspberry are my state.
Yeah. Oh, wait a minute. Somebody can say no. P1 shoe designer. What do you think it is? It's called an Astro Pop. I think that's it. They took them off the market years ago because kids were getting their throats stabbed by it. Oh, really? Astro Pop. I think that might be it. Google it. I swear it is it. Giggle it. All right, dude. Thank you. I think that is it. Gaggle it. Gaggle it. That's it. Calm down, Mike. That's it. Look, Skye. I'm Googling it. Oh, I got it. Ew. What is that, like jelly in there? Remember those? That's the last time I remember candy. Honestly. That's what's in my head. Like 85s? Yeah. Oh, wow. Those things were dangerous. I remember those. Did you get them out the junk truck? Oh, man, dude. I don't even remember. You remember Dinosaur's? What's that? What? Hold on. Eddie's high-fiving. No, I do not remember that. They were like little hard candies. You suck on them, and they change colors, and then you can eat them. Oh. Nope. Dinosaur's? No. I love the name. Yeah. Great name. Yeah. You wouldn't have. They had food coloring in them. Oh, then I would not have been able to enjoy them.
This guy's mom said no to food coloring. She voted no on proposition food coloring. Oh, she sure did. What do you guys think of this? This is pretty funny. Mikey's show. I was going to call and tell you this story when it happened, but it was during the middle of the 28-hour show, and I know you guys might be just a little bit busy during that time. The night before the 28-hour show, my boyfriend asked me to make his lunch. He wanted two sandwiches in their own Ziploc bag. I made his sandwiches and put each one in their own bag. On the side of the first bag, I wrote the word tonguey with a blue Sharpie. Why? On the other side of the bag, I made a smiley face with a tongue sticking out. Okay. What's the matter with you? And on the second bag, I wrote the word Kermit. And on the other side of the bag, I drew Kermit's face as best I could. I put them in the fridge and went to get ready for bed. As I was laying in bed, I couldn't help but think that I forgot to put Kermit's spiky collar. Duh. I knew I couldn't sleep without putting the spiky collar on him, so I got out of bed, went downstairs, and drew his trademark collar. Is this my wife? As I went back to bed, I couldn't help but giggle. I was happy with myself and making my boyfriend a happy sandwich. On top of that, I was so excited about the 28-hour show that the next morning...
The next morning, especially with it being my birthday. Tomorrow was going to be the best day ever, I thought. While listening to the 28-hour show the next day, I got a call from my boyfriend. He said, thanks a lot for making my sandwiches and making all my guy friends give me a hard time for an entire hour. I couldn't help but laugh. I said, well, did you see the baggies when you took them out of the fridge? Why didn't you switch the bags if you didn't like it? And he said... Because I knew you made them for me and I didn't want to hurt your feelings even though I knew I was going to get crap for it all day long. He goes to lunch every day with three guys. These guys aren't your average guys. They're big manly guys. They hunt. They fish. And they said, and I quote, Oh, how sweet. Oh, no. Are we getting married? Oh, boy. They also asked if he had mistakenly picked up the kids' lunch and other various jokes. They picked on him for an entire hour. I laughed so hard when he told me about it. I have to give him credit, though. He took the jokes like a man because he didn't want to hurt my feelings. I told him that I made the bags because I thought he should have a happy lunch. But in truth, deep down inside, after I made them...
I wanted to see what would happen if he did take those to work and sat to lunch with his friends. In closing, she says... It was actually in the email. She actually put it. Wow. She says, has this ever happened to you guys? Or have the girls on the show ever done something like this for their men? It's P1 Kalola. I get it almost daily. Do you really? Yeah. I just hide it from you guys. What does she do? What does she do? Little treats, little kid things in there. Remember the time your sandwich was shaped like a heart? That's right. Really? That's right. She cut his sandwich into a heart. What happened? Eddie is the manliest guy I know. Oh, yeah. He reaches into his... Look at him. He reaches... That's right. He's wearing a flannel. He looks like a cover of a down... You know, like one of those paper towel dispensers. There's a bounty commercial over here. I am ripped and I love it. Brawny. Brawny. That's what I was looking for. So Eddie reaches into his lunch pail. He brings out a little Ziploc bag with a heart-shaped sandwich in it. That's a waste of a sandwich. So Eddie, I didn't know this. She does this all the time? All the time. You do a very good job hiding it. Oh, yeah. It's very embarrassing. Did you get any today? No, I didn't bring my lunch today. No, it's next time. It's really cute. Sky, do you do this?
Not really. Occasionally, everyone, you know, because the boo doesn't really, like, take a lunch anywhere, so it doesn't really apply. But every once in a while when I'm making my hard-boiled eggs for work for the week, I'll make a few extra to leave in the fridge for him, and I'll put little faces on them. You do? Yeah. That's very cute. Will I go with a sharpie? With a pencil, yeah. I'll draw faces on the shelves. It's pretty cute. Yeah, thank you. Rebecca leaves me a little note on a little post-it note every morning and it says trash and I take the trash out. That's very sweet. So cute. It's so darling. 570-1053. Ash, do you ever do that for your boyfriends? No. I like to write notes. I like to do sweet nothings. Let you know I love you. But I don't necessarily do like, oh, let me draw you a picture on your sandwich. I don't really do that. Sean, you get notes, don't you? Oh, dude. So this morning, I got... I'm not even kidding. I got a framed note. Look at it. Look at it. Come put my computer on. You have to see that. That is amazing. Come get my computer on. She's unbelievable. What does it say? She's so cute. Read it. Let's come back and talk about it. Let's come back and talk about it. Yo, you don't even...

As the 48 makes the pass, and Carl Edwards will come down and win for the seventh time in 2008. And Jimmy Johnson finishes second. Hi, Jimmy. Carl Edwards wins, but he can't dent Jimmy Johnson's lead. Johnson finishes second in the race and is still on top of the chase points. He's pretty good. Oh, yeah. That's me on guitar. No. I'm jamming. Green, yellow, orange. That's right. Don't shake your head, Rob. That's good. Accept it. My friend. Welcome back. Hold it. P1 Penguin is on the line and says that she does the little cutesy stuff. No. The little notes. What do you do? Well, okay. First of all, they're jealous.
They all want it. The boys that make fun of him, they're all jealous because I've been doing it forever. I told my boyfriend the same thing. They're jealous. I kept doing it until now. They actually look forward to it. They look in there to see what I've done. That's great. No, this is not good. The sandwich shape corresponds with the sandwich. So if it's a flower shape, he knows he's getting turkey. No, you do not. If it's a heart, he knows he's getting turkey. Yeah. Unless he's getting a sub, in which case he gets some kind of like a goody treat. with my little notes and like a napkin or like a card. Stop talking. That's what makes girls girls and dudes dudes. You're adorable. Okay, so Shawnee, oh boy. Thank you, Penguin. Shawnee, let me take a look at this thing. Put it up to the camera now that I can see. This is classic. I gotta see it. Dina at her finest. This is it. This is a good one. Oh, my gosh. It's a full frame. Sean, did you get that today? Yeah, I found it in my bag today. So adorable. It is the kind of frame that you buy at, like, you know, Michael's or whatever. I'm sure it was Michael's. Sean, what does it say? What does the inside of it say? Describe the inside of it. Well, it's just... Read it verbatim. Nah. She did some custom artwork, which is really nice.
What is the artwork? She took paper that we got from Michael. She cut out some designs and she got some stickers and stuff. She put it all together. She made a little layout for it, which is really nice. The colors are awesome. There's a little saying. What is this saying? You have to read it. Can you please take a picture of that? Please? Very sweet. It's nothing. Yes. What does it say? What does it say? Read it. Look. Read it. Please. Look. Hold on. Read it. Read it. Read it. Read it. Read it. Read it. Read it. Come on. Please. Please. I'll read it. But it's not interesting. Who cares? It is. You know, Dina knows that I worry a lot. I have a problem with worry. Uh-huh. And so, oh, shut up. No, please. Rob, come on. What? Rob. Rob. So she found this thing. And it says, don't be worried about tomorrow.
Is that all it says? No, I'm trying to get through this. Oh, he's going to cry. No, I'm not. It's okay. Cry, cry, cry, cry. Shut up. Cry, cry, cry. It's not going to make sense. Don't worry, be happy. Don't worry, be happy. You guys wouldn't understand. It says, don't be happy. Don't be happy. Don't you push away from your microphone, Sean. Well, you guys obviously know what it says. What does it say? It says, don't worry. It says, don't worry, be happy. That was sweet of him. That was really nice of him. It says, don't worry. It says, don't be worried about tomorrow. God will take care of tomorrow. Worry about today. Now, did she cut that out or did she print that herself? She printed it and then she cut it out and then she made it like distressed on the edges so it looks like it's old paper and it's like kind of burnt on the edges. Wow. There's a lot of work. She's very artistic. I have the best wife. Is it from the Dead Sea Scrolls? Wow. Sean, maybe Eddie. Eddie. No.
No Bobby McFerrin wasn't there. Hang on. I hold up a one percentage chance that Eddie doesn't know. Mike, was Bobby McFerrin there when they wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls? I don't think so. But Sky, now you're making a joke because you know that's not Bobby McFerrin. I don't appreciate you. piggybacking your joke onto my serious statement. Seriously. I'm sorry, Sean. I'm sorry. I took it. And I would like an answer. I'm not doing anything. Eddie really wants to know. Sean. Well, I think that there's a chance that Eddie is really genuinely thinking that maybe she purchased that from a museum. I think that she maybe went and found. Oh, come on. Turned his camera. That was it. Come on! Good question. And the checkout. Well, that's too bad. This email says, Mikey, one of the guys at work, brings a brown paper bag to lunch every day. One day his wife wrote, sex machine on the outside of the bag. Awesome.
We saw it, and our boss has kept that name. Oh, that is hilarious. And he still is known as Sex Machine. That's forever. Fantastic. I mean, that is fantastic. I love it. Love Panther. 570-1053 is our phone number. Our text number is 35253. Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Cornell will be in the studio next hour. Oh, my God. That's right. Oh, no. It's beautiful. Let's see. Am I not connected to... Do you guys see me online? Where are you? I just hooked you up. What's going on? No, no, no. Come look, Rob. The phone thing going on. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. You're phony. You're total phony baloney.
This can't be right, dude. Hey, Mike, I think Chris is here, so we should probably take a quick break and then go grab him. All right, Chris Cornell is in the house. What up, what up? When we come back, Chris Cornell will be here. I appreciate it, bro. Thank you. I'm a P1 because of my girlfriend, Lynn, who turned me on to the station. Welcome back. It is... Jennifer Hudson's mom and brother were shot and killed, and her 7-year-old nephew went missing on Friday. Now an SUV linked to the case has been found this morning, and there are reports of a body being found inside. The Chargers do not have a jolly good time in London. They forgot their defense in the States. Lose a shootout to New Orleans, 37-32. Phillip Rivers says they aren't very good. It's a team deal. We didn't do enough offensively. Like I said, both penalties, finishing drives.
The defense, obviously, I know they didn't feel like they played as well as they should. So, hey, you regroup. Hi. There it is. Hi, hi. You regroup. Hi. That was Phillip Rivers. Yeah. There you go. Hi. Welcome back. So, last week, I said to my wife, guess who is going to be a guest in the studio next week? She said, who? I said, the best male vocalist of... Our time. She goes, Chris Cornell is coming in the studio. I said, yeah. That's cool. She immediately knew. That's legit. In my opinion, Chris Cornell is the best male vocalist of our time. It's like Janie Lane and Chris Cornell. It's a toss-up of new in our generation. I don't think I would put those two in the same category. No one would say that. Oh, now I'm embarrassed. Here he is. Here he is. Chris, how are you doing? Good to see you again, man. Good to see you. Good to see you. Nice to see you. Have a seat. Chris is very tall. Chris, how tall are you? 11 foot. Wow. That is really tall. I'm surprised he doesn't play basketball. That's right. I'm retarded. Yeah. Chris, we actually met Chris.
At an audio slave concert in San Francisco. I think it was the first audio slave concert at the Fillmore in San Francisco, and they couldn't get Tom Morello out of the streets protesting to go on stage. I remember that. Yeah, we were backstage. We met you there. I could see actually out the window the protests, and I don't think I ever actually saw Tom. No, yeah. There were protests. going on. Yeah, for the war. Every so often, whatever city we were in, he would sort of disappear and go protest. Wow. Yeah, it was crazy. That's part of what he does. When's Audioslave going to go on? And they're like, once they drag Tom out of the streets. It's like, okay, cool. We'll wait then. So Chris, we met you then. We've talked to you on the phone before, but I thought, man, now that we have you in the studio. I can spend some time with you and get to know you a little bit because usually it's only for a couple of minutes and we have to ask like three big questions and we're done. So I thought, man, it'd be cool to find out a little bit more about you this time. Okay. And by the way, he played last night at the House of Blues. How was it? It was great. It's the second time in two months. Two months ago, I played songs that went all the way as far back as like 1990 all the way to...
My current album, Scream. And then last night, I played only Scream, really, from beginning to end. Really? And it was incredible. The audience was fantastic. Was Timbaland there? It was a great show. Yeah, he opened up. Nice. He opened up the show. Really? And he brings a full band. It's really great. It's good. So we'll get to... He blows it up. The kids call that dope. Yeah, they do. I think so. All right. You don't know any kids. I don't. You're right. I lied. He just pretends. I read it on the web. You blogged it up? Yeah, I blogged it. Yeah, Chris has got a new album coming out called Scream. It's been produced by Timbaland. That's cool. And Timbaland is most known for, like, pop stuff. And the sound is cool, man. We played a track from it last week, and I said, you know what I think is really cool? You're always changing. You're the opposite of predictable. What is that word? Unpredictable? What is that? It's early for me. There's pop songs in it, but it's not a pop album. It's a different production for him. And it's obviously a completely different approach for me for making an album in some ways. But in other ways, I mean, for me...
Taking a step in a direction other than what I've been doing for a while is something that I've done several times in my career. So for me, it's really refreshing. And it's kind of who I am. Like last night felt so good. Coming out and doing this tour where I'm playing nothing but the new album is also not the first time I've done it in my career. But it's an album from beginning to end where the music never stops. Once you can sit and listen to the whole album. It's released. It's like an hour of a movie soundtrack almost. And we wrote the songs first and then kind of tied all the songs in together. So it's this one mood piece and bringing it out live is great. Well, let's go back a little bit. I've said a million times, man, that I do. I really do believe that you are the best male vocalist of my generation. I'm 38 years old and I can't think of a guy. That I think has a better voice than you do. But I want to go back to when you were first getting your love for music. What was your first band? That I was in? Yeah. It was called the Jones Street Band. How old were you? 17. And I lived on Jones Street. Oh. See how that works. That is so smart. All dudes from high school that you went to high school with? And where was this? No, it was actually... It's a very...
Funny, quick story. I went to this high school in Seattle that it was kind of a last chance alternative high school for people that were kicked out of the Seattle school system for one reason or another. Right. And I didn't really go to class. I would just meet people, my friends there, and then we would go play Frisbee golf or whatever. I met this guy, and he had a drum set he wanted to sell for $50, and I wanted to play drums my whole life. I had played piano. I had played guitar. I just had always wanted to play drums and wasn't allowed to, so I bought it for $50. I was playing it in my garage. I lived with my mom, and the second day I had it, some guy beats on the door. I open the door, and it's this tall guy, and his name's Mark, and he says, hey, I'm the, and he says it like this, I'm the guy what lives down the alley. And he goes, I play bass. Dude, we should totally start a band, man. Nice. And he knew people. This was a new neighborhood for me, but he knew people there. So he brought people in within a week. We had the Jones Street Band. That was my first band. And I never stopped playing music after that. I was never not in a band after that. And you sang.
For the Jones Street Band. No, I played drums for the Jones Street Band. You did not sing. He sang? No, I sang when we would do live performances. We had a singer. He was really bad. And he wanted to be Bon Scott, but he couldn't. And I would sing my rendition of Jimi Hendrix's version of Red House from the drums once per show that we would play. I would get a great response from that. Yeah. Well, you're Chris Cornell. I don't know if you know that. Your name's Chris Cornell. Yeah, I didn't know that then. You didn't know it at the time. You were like, I didn't even know I was going to be in Soundgarden. Yeah. I didn't know that yet. No, I had to learn that. And I learned that by being in a whole bunch of really awful bands with really awful singers and nobody that could write a song. And that's how Soundgarden happened was me. I met Kim Thiel and Hiro Yamamoto from one of those awful bands. Two of them were in a band together. Well, one of them was the bass player of a band that I was in that was awful. And the other one would be the bass player when the first one couldn't show up. And that's how I met them. And none of the three of us liked that band, and we quit. It was a friend of theirs from Chicago, and we hated it. We played one show, and we all quit. And I had bought a bass from Hero, the bass player. So I owed him some money from that bass, and I called him up one day.
I said, yeah, I got the money I owe you for the bass. He said, cool, that's great. By the way, you know anyone that needs a place to live because I need a roommate because my roommate's leaving. And I said, sure, I do. And it was a similar thing. I played the drums. He played bass. I didn't really know him. I moved in and we started playing music together. And we all kind of arrived at the same place, which was we're only ever going to be in, I can't say bad words, so lousy bands. Unless we make our own band and write our own songs and make our own music. And that's how Soundgarden started. And we didn't decide who was going to play what instrument or who would sing or anything. It was literally based on we're going to write songs and figure out how to make music that we like. Really? Yeah. And so did you guys from the beginning sort of have a plan in terms of this is the kind of music that we are into collectively? Yeah, we would sit down and play records for each other. That was one thing we would do. Sometimes we would have rehearsals, and someone would just come in with an album and say, you've got to hear this. And Kim was a DJ at the local college radio station, so he would find new stuff constantly. And did you guys come upon you as the singer by just going, hey, who wants to sing? Who wants to do this? Who wants to do this? Because you were a drummer at the time. I was a drummer, and of the three of us, I was the only one that could sing. So I sort of did that and wrote lyrics.
right away, kind of by default. We would just write songs so quickly that there wasn't time to make a decision about how we were going to do it or who was going to sing. And then Hero sang a few songs, most of which I ended up taking over on. But I was a drummer and sang for the first year of the band, and we performed that way. And it was good. Were you writing lyrics from the time that you were real young, or was this the first time you were starting to do stuff lyrically? I wrote songs. ever since I can remember. From the time I can form memories, I was writing songs on piano without knowing how to play. I wrote songs with lyrics by the time I was about 9 or 10. Do you still have any of that? No, I don't have any of it. Wouldn't you love to see this stuff from when you were 9 years old? Just to see what you were up to at 9 and 10 and what you were writing? No. Because somebody would reprint it somewhere. That would be on the internet. When did Matt Cameron come in the band? After a year, I decided that, look, I can't really be a very good drummer or a very good singer if I'm doing both at the same time. And then we got a friend of mine, Scott Sundquist, who came in as the drummer for about a year. And then he left the band. And right when he left, Matt quit the band that he was in, literally like within the same day. It was like almost kind of divine intervention.
And they were unrelated. He didn't know. And Soundgarden was kind of the big fish in the small pond at that point. Really? We were like the band that sold out clubs. The only one in that scene that kind of did that. And he had quit his band that he was in that was kind of, you know, one of our rivals. And he joined our band. That's cool. Matt's Pearl Jam's drummer. Chris Cornell is in the studio with us. And as you look back on that time, the grunge era, Are you fond of the association with the term grunge? Well, that came a lot later. Like, for example, the story where Matt quits his band and then joins our band. There was no term called grunge. Nobody really wrote about Seattle bands in Seattle. The first time Soundgarden got any press, like real press, was in the Village Voice, which was New York. Right. Seattle didn't really look kindly upon its own creations then.
Really? Yeah. And now it's legend. Well, yeah, then they turned completely the other way, which was if you're not from here or somehow associated with it, we hate you. But it didn't start out that way. It started out the other way. And when you guys first started playing, were you guys kind of having aspirations to be a signed band, or was it just about playing locally and having a good time? We were really big fans of the U.S. indie rock scene and the British indie rock scene. And that was kind of it. There was an exciting type of music being made that was a non-commercial thing that you had to kind of look for. And there was a lot of great music being made. And there were a lot of great independent labels that had a lot of great bands. And it was when alternative music wasn't a genre. It was just the term used literally the way it's supposed to be used, which is it's an alternative to everything else that's commercial. that you see on TV. I remember seeing in Rick Rubin's house, there was a Playboy magazine from 1982. It said Randy Newman, the best songwriter in America. That's sort of where music was at the time. Short people? Yeah, exactly. That's where music was at the time. You had to really go find creative music. That was what we wanted to be a part of.
hopefully find some indie label that would release our songs that we were working so hard on writing. And that was it. That was where our aspirations were. Chris Cornell's hanging out with us. He played a show last night at the House of Blues. And so when you guys got signed, was there, did the attitude in the band change at all? Or were you guys the same guys? Well, it wasn't like the VH1 behind the music get signed story. That story is usually like, Oh, yeah, we met in art school, and we decided to start a band, and then this guy showed up, and he wanted to manage us, and then we made our first record, and we were the biggest band in the entire world, and then our second record, we hated each other and broke up. Wasn't like that. No, it wasn't like that. We put out our first indie record on Sub Pop, which was a label that was more or less put together by our guitar player, who knew the two main... and said, you should get together and start a label so you can put out our record. And they did that. And then we did subsequent indie releases and indie tours for a while. We had major label interest right away, but we sort of scoffed at it because we knew that the people that our music appealed to...
major labels would not reach. And that lasted a few years. Eventually, major labels just looked at it like a business, saying, oh, this indie rock scene is stealing 10% of our market, so what we're going to do is we're going to go hire all the people that do that and get them at our label. And they did that, and that was a long process. I mean, it took a long time. By the time Bad Motor Finger came out, what label was Bad Motor Finger? A&M. That was our second record on A&M. So your first record was called what? Louder Than Love was the first record on A&M. Our first record ever was Screaming Life on Sub Pop. Wow. And then we have an SST release called Ultra Mega OK. Okay, so when you get signed to the big label, do you guys become a part of this big music industry and sort of go, whoa, so this is like the music industry? Or were you enjoying it and it was all good? No, we kind of spanked them, really. I mean, they... We never sent a demo tape out to anyone. They came to our shows. We told them to go away. They did go away. And we ended up being on A&M because a guy that sort of ran A&R and A&M was smart. He was actually a smart person. And he said, no one go near them. And he sent an intern that would wear like this jean suit. It was like 501 jeans and then a jean jacket. And he would come and help us move our gear.
Really? And he would hang out, and he wouldn't say anything about anything. And after a while, we started to trust him and thought, okay, well, this label's kind of cool. And A&M was still independently owned then. It was Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss, and it wasn't like, it was a big label. So it didn't feel like big business. It felt like a... Yeah, and it was also, you know, we were saying no to the biggest company. We were telling Sony to go away. It was never even discussed that we wouldn't do exactly what we wanted to do when we wanted to do it, and that was the way it was going to be. And that's the way my career has been ever since. And that jean jacket kid is known as Clive Davis today. Oh, my gosh. Unbelievable. What a story. How much did, you know, I don't know. I know that that history is really rich, man. It's like so, there's so much history in all those Seattle bands. But I don't know a lot of it. And so how well did you know bands like Pearl Jam and Nirvana? And were you good friends with all of these guys? Yeah, it's not a big city. And the music scene was actually really small. Most of the time, if you played a show, the audience was the members of the other bands. This may seem like a really goofy, oddball question that you may even go, oh, dude, I'd need an hour.
But I think that a lot of our listeners are going, could never get to ask you this personally. So as a fan, what was Kurt Cobain like? He was really kind of quiet and shy. And I guess that's like not an unusual thing for people who are creative. They're sort of extroverted on stage and aggressive and unpredictable. And then kind of quiet and shy when they're not. And I'm super smart. Was there any of that in your personality? He was a lead singer. You were a lead singer. Was there any of that in you? Any of what? Like the quiet, the shy. Is that how you would describe yourself, too? Or were you guys really different in that regard? Well, everybody's kind of different. There's definitely that side to me. Yeah. For sure. Eddie, did you have a question? I may not say another word. Oh, we've got to take a break. We've got to take a break. Oh, man, do I have more questions. And we're going to play some of the new music, too. Yes, good stuff. The new Timbaland stuff. We have to take a quick time out, but I'm going to play two songs from the new record. And the new record is called Scream. And it is going to be hitting. It's going to be dropping, as they say. February. In February. I can't wait. And there's going to be a tour with Timbaland. And there's a tour right now with Timbaland. We're doing it. That was last night. Okay. Bam.
Cool. So real quick, real quick, we do a timeout. We come back, and I am trying to sop this up like bread right now. I'm enjoying it. I'm enjoying it. We'll be right back. Join the P1 Text Army. Rock 105.3. Viewed by Sleep Train Mattress Centers. Well, the ride is improving as this commute winds down. However, there is a new accident involving a motorcycle here southbound 5 just before Encinitas Boulevard, and that's got you slow out of Lucadia in single digits down to this accident scene. Once you get past that, though, you're looking pretty good all the way down the stretch. Northbound 5, watch for some leftover slowing here past Mount Soledad, getting up to the 52. The westbound 52 still finding brake lights as well, coming through St. Clementine Canyon, getting to the 5 freeway. And the rest of our freeway trip to speed looking pretty nice, even at South 15. Full speed at the Vescondido down the entire stretch. I'm Rick Lawrence on Rock 105.3. This is the home of the Mikey Show. K-I-O-Z. San Diego. Now, the morning show. My handicap is I eat too much. It's the Mikey Show. It is 9-19. Well, here's some good news. Gas prices are down over 50 cents in just the last two weeks. The Phillies take a commanding 3-1 lead in the World Series over Tampa Bay with a 10-2 win last night. I was going back through some of Chris Cornell's work over the last week because we knew we were going to have him in today.
And I hadn't heard I Am The Highway for I don't know how long. Hearing it all over again. I said to my wife last week, I'd go, how long has it been since you've listened to I Am The Highway? Because that's like a soundtrack to our lives. Really? Oh, yeah, man. During that period of time, that was when I was going through rehab. My wife and I were not married yet. We were breaking up. And I actually introduced her to that album. And she loved it, too. And listening to it again, it gave me goosebumps, man. Like the hair on my arm was standing up. But we have Chris Cornell in here. And so I got a lot of questions. He's got a new album coming out called Scream. And it will be out in February. And we're going to be playing a couple of tracks from it and hear what that sounds like. He played last night at the House of Blues and was cool enough to get up early in the morning and come and hang out with us. Yeah, it's still sort of last night for us. Really? Yeah.
I mean, this is early, early for when you're playing a rock show at night. It's kind of still like last night. So what time did you get to sleep last night? I'm not sure we ever really fell asleep. Really? Oh, my gosh. Wow. You guys are troopers. So where we left off was Soundgarden ears, and the record label was A&M. And it was good. They were treating you good, and everything seemed to be pretty good. You know, I got a... Just say that my career from that moment on, pretty much the whole time though, but from the indie period, but definitely like the major label period, I don't have a bad story to tell about it in terms of creative control, in terms of how I've been treated. I've just delivered records. And no one has ever tried to get me to do anything I didn't want to do. No one has ever not put out a record that I finished. I've never had to go and read. make a record, all the bad stories you hear, which I've heard lots of them, and friends of mine have gone through. I've never had that problem. And one of the reasons why, I think maybe the main reason why is because I started with the don't even ever think about going there. And I think that that helps. I think if you're like a young musician starting off in that career and you just don't open the door to that, and it's like, I'm a creative person,
I do what I do, and I know what that is, and I know what I want. And, you know, you can be open to any kind of music you want, as long as it's coming from you and it's sincere. It's great. But you have to kind of make, I think you have to sort of make that statement early on. And you have to believe it, too. You have to believe that if somebody says, look, if you don't do X, you're out of here. You have to believe in your heart that I'm out of here. uh eventually dissolved was it you guys all wanting something different couple of you guys wanting something different or we just don't agree on the kind of music we're making anymore um we love the music we're making i don't think it was really about the future and what we wanted as much as it was about um not not wanting i guess in a sense the burden of of keeping that going. I think that Soundgarden had sort of turned into something that was precious to us and precious to a lot of other people, and it kind of took on its own life. And it was a big responsibility to make these albums and make them live up to the last one. And we just worked really hard on it. The very last album was self-produced, self-mixed, and it's my favorite one.
And I think it was, for me and for the rest of us, a good time to stop. Because the last thing I wanted to do was somehow continue to make albums in some way where I didn't feel as strong about what we were doing as things I'd done in the past. I just felt like I didn't want to see it ever be less than amazing. And it was a big responsibility. We'd been a band for a long time, a lot longer than most people know. By the time people had found out about us, we were already a band for like eight years. So it was a good time to just kind of stop. Down on the upside, last record. And is there a track on there that you were most proud of? I don't know if I can say that. I mean, to me, all of the songs are like my little children. And I almost feel like this... You just asking that question, the songs are all sitting there in the ether listening. What's he going to say? Right. He's going to say me. No, no, he's going to say me. No, he likes me the most. That's a very interesting way to look at that. That's cool. It's the truth. Yeah. Okay, so Soundgarden is no more. You're doing some solo stuff. You do that for a little while. I do Euphoria Morning, which was probably the first time. I just saw a set list the other day.
That someone brought to sign. Or I went on tour for eight months playing pretty much nothing but that. And it was completely different than Soundgarden, obviously. Completely different than anything I'd ever done. Which was the whole point. Sun Shower came from Euphoria Morning, right? Or was that just the Japanese? It was just before that. It was the first thing I did after Soundgarden. And, you know, within a similar time frame, yeah. When you record, are you standing up or sitting on a stool? When I sing? When you sing and you're recording. It depends on the song. Usually both. You do a little of both? Yeah, I will sit down. I'll stand up. I'll turn the volume way up. I'll turn it way down. I mix it up. You'll actually be recording, sitting on a stool, and in the middle of the recording, stand up while you're recording the song? Or you do like a full... Oh, really? Sometimes a handstand. Sometimes jumping jacks. Cartwheels. Exactly. Wow. Do you have to go through a series of things to get your voice ready to go? Or do you type a guy that goes in the studio, you're ready to go? Usually I'm like that. It depends. He has some good vocal warm-ups. Bumblebee, bumblebee, bumblebee. It's gorgeous. Feel free to steal that. It's gorgeous. No problem. I'll teach you later. You can use that. We're working on that for you. That wasn't a warm-up. You just performed that. That was a performance. You're welcome. It was nice.
You'll get a bill later for that. That's different. He warmed up to be able to do that. Thank you. I have been. Well, he's a professional. True. So the guys in Rage, they lose their lead singer, and Rick Rubin suggests you. Yeah, I think it was a combination of Rick Rubin and Peter Mensch and Tom Morello. I'd been getting all kinds of requests to work with different people. from a lot of different types of musicians, from like Euro sort of industrial DJ-based stuff and trance stuff to like super famous guitar players from rock bands who wanted to start a new band. Like tons of them. Can you say any names? No, I don't want to do that. Because I said no, so then it makes me look like a dick. And none of it made any sense to me at all. God, you would have been going to Van Halen. I know. Can you imagine? Can you imagine? Oh, my gosh. And really, honestly, it happened kind of based on my attitude that was started around Temple of the Dog. Because Temple of the Dog was like a period where I'd written a lot of songs, was going through a really prolific period. And I was writing a lot of songs that just didn't fit within what I thought of the context of the Soundgarden sound.
And it just ended up happening that we made the Temple of the Dog record, and those songs found a home. And I didn't know what that was going to be like. I knew that Soundgarden was special and the combination of the people was special, but I didn't know if my music outside of that group would be special and would create something interesting. And then Temple of the Dog sort of proved to me, oh, yeah, absolutely. You can work with other people, and you should think about... And that's part of why Audioslave happened to me, was that when I got that call, that combination of musicians and me singing and writing with them was interesting. To me, that reminded me of the promise I made to myself that don't stare down your nose at something that could be a really great collaboration. And it's that simple. It's not like... It wasn't looking at it like I'm playing a game of Risk and it's a big offensive move. It's just like going into a room and writing songs and making an album. Is it true that Rick Rubin, one of the songs that he really liked, that he played for the guys, was Slaves and Bulldozers, Soundgarden? Yeah, I think they were having a meeting and he was like, you've got to get this guy and here's why, and he played them that. I have a little bit of it. What album?
That's Dad Warner Finger. How long has it been since you've heard this? Not long. Really? Yeah. Do you throw it in every once in a while? Well, if somebody just happens to be playing it. I do some of these songs, so that requires actually listening to them. Because it's a long time. Some of them I really just don't need to, but Soundgarden actually had, I would make pretty intricate arrangements of songs that had a lot of little parts. That's kind of how I ended up playing guitar in the band. because I would write songs that had two specific guitar parts, at least, that kind of had to be there. Let's listen to your vocal, yeah. Do you ever listen to this stuff and go, good voice, man? Like that part right there, we're not playing the guitar part right. What do you mean? Well, and I notice this a lot when I go and I listen back. The way that these parts were written, and then often sort of what would happen when we were recording, were not the same thing. Wow.
Really? And I would notice, and I'll actually, I'll get kind of mad at like one of my band members now because they'll be playing it wrong. I'll be like, no, no, no, no, no. And I'll think, what, are you stupid? You're playing it wrong. Right. And then they look at me like, but that's what's on the record. Right. And these guys are amazing musicians. And I listen and I hear one guy, I'm playing it one way and Kim is playing it the other way. And usually it's a song where I wrote it all and then I showed it to Kim. And he just didn't learn it the way that I showed him. And I just didn't change it. And so in my mind, it's still the original way. There's like a wrong note in there. I hear that when I listen to the song sometimes. When you write, do you come up with a melody, like musical melody, and then write the lyrics? Or do you write lyrics and put music to it? It's every possible way. Really? I don't know. I've done it. Everything entirely in my head. Responding to something I'm playing on guitar or writing guitar music in my head and then sort of trying to figure out how to do it on guitar. Things based on lyrical ideas that I write down and wait for music that fits it. Any combination. Very blunt question. Why did Audio Slave dissolve? To me it was kind of a band that...
in the context of the way that we wrote music, which was sort of all of us in a room, and then I would write lyrics separately or come up with guitar parts or changes separately, and occasionally a song separately. We really needed to reinvent who we were after our third record, and I love our third record. Similar to Soundgarden, in a way, I think our last record is my favorite one. But I felt like we were really going to have to... completely reinvent how we wrote and how we created music to continue on and make albums that I was going to be excited about. And I didn't really want to invest in that, I don't think, at that time. I'd spent a lot of years being in a band, created Soundgarden. It was really important to me. I was heavily involved in the reinvention of Soundgarden, which gave it more new life, you know, and that's a difficult thing to do. And also, there's like a dexterity issue. You know, at this point, I was starting to become pretty restless. And I had already enjoyed some time as a solo artist. And I like to be able to make creative decisions sort of on the spur of the moment. I like to be able to perform. You know, if someone calls tomorrow and says, would you like to play South Africa next week?
I want to be able to do that. And I'm at the time in my life when, and I don't want to waste any time doing anything other than being creative, writing, recording, performing, and spending time with my family. And there are different ways to create music. One of them is you're in sort of the band model, which is you're writing and creating music that is based on a combination of influences that you all agree on. And the other way is the solo artist, which is you can do virtually anything you want. Each way is great, but I spent most of my career doing the band model way. And I want to spend the rest of it doing it the other way. So you will never be in a band again? I don't think for consecutive albums and going out sort of promoting the band as an identity. No, probably not. The model that they worked on? was let's go into a studio, we kind of throw around some musical ideas, and then you'll write some lyrics to it. If it had been up to you, how would that process look? I don't get it. In other words, you said there was kind of a philosophy difference in the way you guys were writing the music. No, there was no difference at all. We all agreed that we would do it that way. I love doing it that way. Oh, okay. And that's why the records are great. I just think that you do that three times, you make three albums. If we go in for the fourth one,
it's not going to be different enough. I gotcha. Because the approach is the same, so we have to change it. I gotcha. And, you know, how do you do that? That takes a lot of work. And I was very, I'm a workaholic. I'm down for the work. But, you know, for me to invest that kind of time and effort, I might want to make a dramatic change, which Scream, the album, is a fantastic example of that. That's a dramatic change. That's something that has me very excited right now that I wouldn't be able to do in the confines of a band where you're really creating music based on a combination of what the four of you agree on as musical influences. When we come back, we're going to hear two tracks from the new album, Scream, produced by Timbaland. Timbaland and Chris played last night at the House of Blues in San Diego. and the album is coming out in February, and there's a few things I want to hit on when we come back. We'll catch up to current time, so we'll find out how did this association between you and Timbaland come up. And I also want to ask you kind of fun questions just to know a little bit about you and what you're like. Okay. And also, when we come back, we're going to hear the music, the new music. So don't go away. Chris Cornell's in the studio. This is The Mikey Show.
I love the Mikey show. You know, you guys are awesome. Thank you, brother. Corona Light presents Scary Halloween Corona Stories. We were sitting on the beach when suddenly it started to rain. I'm going to give Ashley an idiom, and then she's going to tell us what she thinks it is. Okay. You either agree or disagree, Sanjaya. Break it down, Ashley. Are you ready, Ash? Yeah. Your idiom is cut off your nose to spite your face. It's referring, it's like basically saying like, like, oh, like, oh, like you think you're really great. Like, okay, listen, you're a little cocky. Why don't you cut off your nose and then see how you like it? I'm trying to. It's like, oh, I got a problem with my nose. I'm going to cut it off. And then you go, oh, what did I do to my whole face? Yeah. Cut off your nose to spite your face. You don't have a nose to smell your armpits. That's true. Back to the Mikey Show on The Rock. Welcome back. It's The Mikey Show. It is 9.42. Amy Poehler missed out on Saturday Night Live this weekend because she was giving birth to a baby boy on Saturday. Isaiah Thomas and the police differ on who overdosed on sleeping pills at his house. Really? Yeah, we'll get to that story coming up. It's a strange story. Chris Cornell is in the studio and we're going to be listening to two songs from his new album. The new album is called Scream and it is coming out in February. Okay.
So let's do a couple of questions just to learn a little bit about Chris Cornell. If you could have the perfect day right now, what does a perfect day look like for you? For me, it's getting up in the morning and being with my kids and my wife, being with my family. And then spending just sort of a normal day with them. And I just had this day. Going to a show where my kids get to come and my family's there and I perform and they get to see that and be a part of that. That's cool. How old are the kids? My son will be three in December and my daughter's four. Doing what I do, my wife is always with me. We live in Paris half the time and half the time we live in Los Angeles.
so that if primarily I'm touring in North America or Europe or whatever, so they can be based out of one place or the other and I can see my kids. That's really the one hard part about what I do. Paris, how did that happen? That's where I met my wife. Really? You met in Paris? Yeah, she lived there. And I met her there. It was on the first European Audioslave tour. And then I met her there, fell in love like immediately, and then the first... the first break we had from tour, I flew back to Paris. And I remember, like, my manager at the time saying, what are you doing? And they all thought I was kind of crazy. And I was kind of, you know, they didn't know me that well. We just met, and we're in a band. And I meet this girl in Paris, and I'm flying there, like, on four-day breaks from tour. And then ended up living there with her. And then we ended up having two kids. And all that happened pretty quick. I mean, you know, we have a three-year-old and a four-year-old. No, I don't speak French. Vicky speaks French. Yeah. Right? I don't. Did you sing to her, courting her? Yeah, I did. Money. Of course. Money. I'm not stupid. You've got to know where your strengths and your weaknesses are. Thank you. Does she still have, like, a favorite thing that you used to sing to her?
There are a lot of things. Here's a secret. There's a Jean Paul song I used to sing for her that she loved. Yeah? Yeah. What was it? I don't even remember the name of it now. But it was a huge hit at the time. Where is she? She's right up to the door. She'll remember. Open the door. This isn't the song. What was the Jean Paul song that Chris used to sing to you? Yeah, what is it? She's like, are you talking to me? What was a Jean-Paul song that he sang to you? I can't remember the name either. It was his first big hit. That's great, man. I think it was The Hot Stepper. There you go. Was it The Hot Stepper? No. I couldn't sing it that well either. So I got a two-year-old. Do your kids watch Thomas the Tank Engine? Yeah, my son was really into it, and we bought him the train set and everything, but he's kind of over it. That's what we got. I think it's a little weird, too. That's what Mike was saying. That's what I said. It's real creepy. It's a little weird. It's like a little bit Henry Ford. It's about a train, but a train that's on an island. Yeah. If it's not a big island, then who cares? Because what do you even need a train for? Where's it going?
And then the name, it's on the island of Sodor. Yes. That sounds like another planet. Yeah. I think there's some creepy stuff going on there. Wow. And sometimes it's George Carlin and sometimes it's Alec Baldwin. That do the narrating. Which is creepy, too. Yeah. George Carlin's not creepy to me, but if it's either him or Alec Baldwin, that part, that's creepy. I don't know why. Yeah. One or the other. Somebody called up Alec one day. Alec Baldwin? Yeah. Would you like to do the voiceover for Thomas the Train? And he's like... Yeah, I'll do that. That sounds like great work. Yeah, that's weird. Second prize set of steak knives. That's right. Second prize set of steak knives. You see, pal, that's who I am and you're nothing. You're nothing, Thomas. Yeah, it doesn't sound like a very good idea. You know, Chris, you redid Billie Jean. Maybe one of these days you could do the Thomas the Tank Engine rolling along. I'd love to do some voiceover on something that my children would watch. Yeah. They would love to hear you do it. Well, we were watching... I forced them to watch Life on Mars, which is the new TV series with Harvey Keitel and Michael Lamperelli, because their entire campaign has been the song Ground Zero that you're going to play in a minute. All the advertising and the opening of the show. And so I forced them to watch the show so that they could see me in the video and then they could hear the song. I'm sure they loved it.
They like listening to my music. They didn't get the TV show at all. They didn't like Harvey Keitel? No, they're not. Show them Bad Lieutenant. They'll think that's right. No, don't show them that one. Hey, did you get in a motorcycle accident last year? Yeah, in the middle of recording, carry on. You're okay now? I was okay then. I mean, I got lucky. I didn't really get hurt. You still ride? Yeah, I still have the same bike. I had to have it sort of rebuilt. And when Vicky lets me ride, I ride. Aww. You can see it. Look over your shoulder to her. She's got that look. Sometimes she will not let me. A couple nights ago, I wanted to ride back from rehearsal, and she just decided it wasn't going to happen. Yeah, I don't feel bad. My mom made my dad give up his motorcycle when the babies were born. So I'm feeling it. Yeah, I hear you. I mean, he gave it up, Chris. Chris, he actually sold the motorcycle. Thank you. He sold it. Thank you for that little story. That was really helpful for Chris Cornell. That's what I'm here for. Really good to me. Thank you. All right, so let's listen to this music. Let's listen to this music. Now, Timbaland is the producer. He performed with you last night. And he's most known for, you know, he's most known for pop. Hip-hop. Yeah, like you think Timberlake when you think Timberlake. Exactly. I think Missy Elliott when I think of Timbaland. That's the first time I really sort of realized who he was.
There was a lot of hip-hop coming out, but I heard her and her track, and it was really unbelievably creative. There was birds chirping that was part of making up the beat. It was kind of anything goes. Did you go to him, or did he come to you? I was thinking about doing some remixes, some kind of cool, fun remixes for Carry On, and so I went to HIMS. saying, you know, why don't you do that? And he said, well, I want to do original material. I want to do something new. I want to do remixes. And, you know, so let's do a couple new things. And I said, that sounds great. But if we're going to get in the studio together and make new things, let's make a new album. And that's the beauty of being a solo artist. You can just go do it. I was on the road, yeah. And I'll come off the road and we'll go make a new album. And he was... He said, yeah, sure. Ten-minute conversation on the phone. What are the lyrics about to Ground Zero? It's kind of the second tragedy. It is the second tragedy to 9-11, which is the fact that that tragedy happened being used to create sort of anxiety and fear in people so that they will support bad decisions and bad policies that have not been good for our country and good for the people. Political record.
Kind of, yeah. Yes. Let's take a listen. You use that part of your voice. You know, when you sing, you have this really cool range, and I like that particular sound in your voice. It sounds great, man. It reminds me of the South. Is it really? Yeah. Seriously, it has this southern bluesy vibe to it, which, you know, it was really cool. It's something I've never kind of heard before. It reminds me of... kind of i don't even know what the genre was because i was a little kid but somewhere like a cross between like up to the second modern music and and like soul r&b music of the early 70s yeah kind of it almost had and this is gonna sound weird like a ray charles vibe to it yeah there you go that's what i want to tell you seriously yeah that's cool
The record is out in February. I just want to thank you. We're going to play a scream going out here, but I just want to thank you, man, for coming in and a really fun interview and cool. Thank you. I got to learn a little bit more about you. It was really an honor to have you in here because I'm going to be telling my kid when he's older that... Hey, Daddy's favorite vocalist came in the studio one day, and it was a pretty cool day. So thanks a lot for coming in. Thank you. I'll come back, too. We would love that. When your son has taken your spot in this scenario, he'll interview me. Yeah, your dad was pretty good, but you're a lot better. And I'm not just saying that. I will just be saying that, but I'm going to say that I'm not just saying that. That is true. Nice thing to do. The album is called Scream, and this is the title track, and we will be back. Chris Cornell, thank you for coming in here. We appreciate it. This is Scream. Thank you. Oh, that's awesome. I want to tell you about AutoAnything.com. AutoAnything.com is fantastic. Had they done, like, a parody of that yet? Yeah. Yeah? Like, scary movie? Yes. Is that it? Yeah. Yeah. And then the number one movie this weekend. Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait. That was number, what was that? That was number two. Okay. So the number one movie this weekend. So it wasn't the number one movie? No. Wow. High School Musical 3. Oh, yeah. Making $42 million. The Armageddon is here. They're graduating, Mike. It's crazy. No, it's crazy. Cut 51. It was back. It was back. Yeah. They're big guns. Ah, that. Easy secrets. I have to tell you, that to me does not sound contemporary.
But maybe I'm out of it. What do you mean contemporary? That sounds like it was like from 1991 to me. It really did. It didn't sound like 2008 music. That is no on Prop 8. Yes. Yes. Yeah, that's definitely no. For real. Yeah. Here's Zac Efron, Cut 55. In the third movie, they're dealing with more adult problems. Like when he's going to go to college. That's a real big decision to make. Quit talking about a dude. You know. It's about their futures now. Shut up. We're worried about the economy. The war in Iraq. Yeah. We're 18 now and we're voting and we're really thinking about serious issues. Obama, McCain. Just got my license. Yeah. Oh, gosh. That's weird. What else? Is that it? Yep, that was the number one movie this weekend. You know, that high school musical is huge. I think this was the first time it was out in the theaters. Theaters. The first one and the second one were shown on the Disney Channel and brought in huge, I think, all-time high ratings for the Disney Channel. And then so they said with number three, we're going to put it on the big screen. All right, run them down again. Five, four, three, two, one. What do we have? Oh, I only did three. What were they? Saw. Three was Max Payne. Max Payne, Saw, and...
High School Musical. What about this Changeling with Angelina Jolie? It's not out in wide release yet. It was only out in limited release, which did not include San Diego. Really? Yeah, I think it was just like LA and New York. Is it an indie thing? No, I think it's going to come. Next week is wide release. And I'm going to go. I really want to see this movie. After Ashley's interpretation of Angelina Jolie. It was really good. That's fantastic. Is that the clip or is that Ash? It's not even the correct line, but I love it so much. No, that's not it either. Wait a second. But it's closer. Did you guys just hear that clip of Angelina Jolie? Yeah, I mean, it's good. I'm not going to deny it. It's good. She's good. Now Ashley should do it. Sean, quit playing the real movie. Let's let Ashley do it. Oh, man. I've abandoned my boss! There's Ash. It's a sequel. Cut 58. Ashley? Ash. Is that Ashley? You're not my son. There she is. That's the line that she's been trying to say. I want my son back. Ash, come on. I want my son. Ash, give me a you're not my son. Oh, wow. That guy got the chills. I want my son. I want my son. That is not the line. Oh, wow. Oh, no.
Should we not print that? Let's try it again from the top. Angelina voiceover, take three. Who is that kid? What's up, guy? This ain't my rug rat. That's fantastic. Cut 57. You seem perfectly capable of taking care of the boy. The job pays you enough to attend to his personal needs. So I don't understand why you're running away from your responsibilities as a mother. I am not running away from anything. Responsibilities. I am your best boy right now. What worries me is that you have stopped looking for my son. Why should we be looking for someone we've already found? Dead on. It is like listening to a mirror. It is. It really is. That is.
Awesome. It's amazing. It's amazing. It's inspiring is what it is. Yeah, it really is. Now, last week we played the Backstreet Boys singing the national anthem at the World Series. Oh, yeah. But now we're going to play a real singer. Patti LaBelle, last night, was cranking it out. Cut 35. Can you see? Get up there. I want some pigs in the blanket. Easy. What? That what? Oh, wait. The skylight. What is a skylight? Skylight. You're a singer. Where's Nick Barter? And the Rockets, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. What's up, Whitman? Okay, we get it. Backing vocals.
Oh, Jay Buck. You were so swarmy. Philadelphia's own Patti LaBelle with our national anthem. There she is. Patti LaBelle. Is she, like, from Detroit? Is she? I wonder if she's a big Motown. Yeah. I thought she was. If you would have asked me where is she from, I would have said Detroit. I would have said Philly. Jerks. I would have said Lake Havasu, if we're being really honest. I would have said Montreal. Did that take you back to WrestleMania 3 or what? It really did. I mean. It's like I was there all over. What? WrestleMania 3. I thought it was 4, but it was 3. No, it was 3. It was 3. So we're breaking one at the Silverdome. Huh? Woo, boy. You can see Bob Euker now. Who? Can't do it. What? Wait a minute. Can't do it. Mr. Singletary. You were there, Mike. It's Mike Singletary, everybody. Can't do it. Mr. Singletary. Oh, come on. I want winners. I know. She did a great job. I thought she did fantastic. There's a couple of lines, but for the most part, I thought she did good. Cannot play with them. Cannot win with them. Well, first of all, sir, that's a woman. Yeah. So check yourself. Yep. It is more about them than it is about the team. Before you wreck yourself. Yep. Here's some text messages we're getting. I want people that want to win. Mr. Singletary. Oh, he is excited this morning. If you don't mind. Please.
Can you do it? Wow. Chris and Timberland. Sir, if you don't. We're moving on. I'm trying to. Chris and Timberland are so freaking talented. The songs were scary good. That's P1 Nikita. Mikey, that was the best interview on your show by far. Compelling and rich. Eddie and B-Rob loved your costume at Boo Ball. Love you, P1 Leonidas. Gracias. I tip my hat to you. This text message says the Chris Cornell interview was. One of my favorite interviews you guys have done. That's P1 What's Hampooning. Mikey, I wasn't a fan before, but the first bluesy hip-hop song, Ground Zero, just turned me into a Chris Cornell fan. That's P1 Saxman. Nice. Let's see. Mikey, Max Payne wasn't a good movie. Oh, no. Not worth the $11. That's P1 Mommy's Little Monster. Play the video game. $11 to go to a movie? I haven't been to the movies for a little bit.
$11? Just get yourself a senior citizen card or a college ID and it cuts it in half. A senior citizen card. Money, money, money. Where do they hand those out? Yeah, you know how senior citizens carry around senior citizens? Do you have your senior citizen card? I thought they just carried their driver's license. Money, money, money. If you want to get all technical, there's actually a senior citizen's card. Really? Yes. Thank you, Mikey. That's right. There's a picture of John McCain on it. I have a senior citizen card. He's their mascot. That's right. Oh, sure. Mine's the first one ever. That whistling noise. Somebody close that door. Window. Whatever it is. Your tea's done. Let's see. Skye, how was Saturday Night Live? It was all right. You know, I felt there was definitely something missing with Amy Poehler not there. She had gone into labor on Saturday. Whoa. Yeah, she was rehearsing as of Friday for Saturday Night Live. But, yeah, went into labor and gave birth to a little baby boy, which they named Archie. Uh-uh. What did they really name him? But anyway. What did they really name him? Archie Arnett. Archie? Yeah. It's a family name? Yeah. Job. Job. You should have named him Job. Or George Michael. George Michael. Awesome.
So Amy Poehler wasn't there. So Seth Meyers had to do weekends. At the birth? She wasn't there? No, she was there at the birth. She wasn't there. How can you not be there for the birth? It was her child. You're confused. Very irresponsible of her. So, you know, she wasn't there for Weekend Update, any of that. So Coldplay performed, and they actually did three songs. So I don't know if they were supposed to do three songs. Did they do that one? If you are who you are, who you are. That's not Coldplay. That's not Coldplay. They should do like a mashup. where they mix that song with the Ooppa Loopa song. No, that's not what I was thinking. Maybe not. That's weird. I have a clip from Saturday Night Live. Do you? This was their Joe Biden bit. They were talking about Joe Biden. And what is this guy? What is the deal?
Well, Joe Biden, it had been kind of a weird week for the Democratic Party where people were saying things that they probably shouldn't be saying. And Joe Biden made news for kind of making some dire predictions about our future. And so it was kind of a skit about that press conference. OK, it's not playing. It should play. I know, but I like to do it so that it doesn't play. Take it off. Pause. That's my favorite thing to do is to actually not play it. Well, you should. I mean, we just talked about it. I wonder what I'll do next. You should just keep hitting the button until it works. I can't really figure this out. I mean, we've got plenty of time. Let me have Shawnee play it. Shawnee cut six. As sure as I'm standing here today, during his first few weeks in office, this brilliant young president is going to be tested. Tested by an international crisis.
the likes of which this nation has never before seen. A deliberately manufactured crisis designed to test his mettle. That's right. Now in this crisis, he will have to make decisions. Decisions that at first, while they may seem to the casual observer, seem a little ill-considered. Our military may invade Pakistan or surrender to the Chinese. We may sell Hawaii to Saudi Arabia or just destroy it so it can't fall into North Korean hands. But just reserve your judgment. We know what we're doing. There it is. They also did a weekend update with more Sarah Palin, of course. Man, she looks like Sarah Palin. I actually think Sarah Palin's better looking than... Oh, yeah, way better. You know it, baby. Tina Fey. Tina Fey. Yeah. That's a repeat of Eddie's kind of... That one doesn't count. It's a spin-off. It can't count. It's a spin-off. No credit for that. Yeah, thank you. It was a boing. Yeah, boing. Was that a boing? Yeah, that was a boing. Let's see. Duh.
Manny Ramirez's wife won't let him do a cameo on Entourage. What? Yeah. So, let's see. Fox News is reporting that Juliana Ramirez pulled the plug on her husband's deal because she didn't want him, quote, anywhere near the heat of Hollywood people, end quote. Can't be near that heat. Rob, did you hear he's resigning with the Red Sox? Just kidding. Oh, Rob. You had me there. Oh, Rob. No, it's not even funny. It's not even funny. I don't even like when you do that to me. Yes, you would. Don't do that. I don't want him back. You guys are a jerk. No, you love him. Oh, yeah, he's a jerk. He's a jelly good jerk.
Gas prices are down 53 cents in the last two weeks. Oh, and the election's next week. What does that mean? Mike, you know, dude. I don't. You know, Mike. I want to know what that means. Go read time. All right. Yeah, Chris Cornell was talking about that. He's like, so what'd you say? How much are they down? Well, it doesn't make sense because it really should be this and this. What did he say? Well, he was just saying that that's great and all, that it's been a 50 cent. In the last couple weeks, he said, but if crude oil prices have gone down 50%, then shouldn't our price at the pump go down 50%? And I said, hey, Chris, you're 100% right, bro. He's 100% right 84% of the time. Yeah, but that's just not the way it works. But only 73% of people agree with that. That's what John McCain is fighting for. What is he fighting for? For cheaper prices at McDonald's. He thinks everybody deserves. A senior card discount. Yes. Told you. Yeah, there is, Skye. Let me see your senior card. Mayor Sanders and his daughter are featured in a magazine discussing their opposition to Prop 8. Yeah. Mayor Sanders, you know.
doesn't really talk about his daughter being a lesbian and kind of made this big announcement a while back when he decided not to veto the city council support of same-sex marriage, basically saying, hey, I love my daughter. I can't, you know, go against things she believes in. And after he made that announcement, he said he wouldn't talk about it any further. He, you know, he refused to do interviews with national media about it, the whole thing. But now with Prop 8 on the ballot, he has a no on 8 sign. out in his lawn on his home in Kensington, and him and his daughter did this interview for the advocate talking about, you know, basically when politics become personal and affect your family. So even though he's a Republican and all his boys are voting yes on eight, Mayor Sanders says nope, no on eight. I'm really interested to see what's going to happen, how that's going to go. Because you see, you know, commercials for both sides pretty, you know, well, it has to be equal. It's the law. Every two minutes you see a commercial. Yeah, it's all about eight. And Sky says vote no. I say vote yes. I say vote maybe. Is there a maybe vote? There's not. That's not an option. Oh, there it is. Write it in. No. Write in maybe. Write in whatever you want. No. I'm doing Obama-Palin. Stop saying that. I'm doing it. Well, your vote will not count. How do you know if enough people do it? Yeah.
She's like, she has to do it. She's got to be his vice president. This is America, right? Let's see. You know how they used to do it in the olden days? What? That, you know, the two parties ran and whoever the loser was was the vice president. Really? Yeah. Wow. That's right. What a trip. Can you imagine? That would be crazy. That would be nuts. But it's kind of a neat idea because with the two-party system, you know. It's better. Yeah, but what if they couldn't agree on anything? It doesn't matter. But how's that? Figure it out. Thumb wrestle for it. Different from when the Congress and all them, you know, there's a Republican Congress and Democratic Senate and no one can agree. I like the thumb-wrestling idea, though. You don't agree on something, just thumb-wrestle over it. That's how it goes. One, two, three, four. Daylight savings this Sunday. This is better, though, because we get an hour.
Wait, what? We get an hour. We fall back. You fall back. You fall back, so we're losing. Oh, we lose an hour. I'm totally upset. It's the worst. We should have not have said anything. Isn't that your bit, Rob? Oh, I missed it. It's your whole thing, Rob. You're supposed to go with it. I'd have been putting my clock ahead. Oh, man. What a golden opportunity. So we lose an hour. Yeah, and they actually, since, you know, the president changed it here in the States a little while ago. So actually, this happened yesterday in Mexico. So right now in Mexico, it's 930. It's weird. Oh, good morning. Hola. Is that the hour behind us? That's the way you talk to somebody an hour behind? Good morning. Especially in Mexico. Oh, good morning. Buenos dias. Amigos. You are messed up. Why do we have to do that? I wish we were like Arizona and we never changed our time. It messes me up. That's what it's coming to, dude.
crazy ways. You're nuts. Listen to me. Hold on. Go ahead. He's fired up today. I'm sorry. It's just Bush made it what? We were supposed to do this two months ago. Well, I think we would have done it on Sunday with like Mexico. Yeah. Everybody used to do it at the same time. It used to happen in like September. I'm right on the money, Mike. They're going to eliminate this daylight savings time because originally it was for the farmers, but you know, they don't need it anymore. So I'm telling you, we're going to see. But why is Bush? What's the deal? Hey, Bush pushed it back. Yeah, he said to save energy because if there's daylight hours out, people will be more likely to go out and shop. And also you don't have to have all your lights on because the sun's still out. So to give us more daylight hours when we're the most active. Yeah, I'm really happy about it. Get ready. Next 10 years. Gets me out there working longer. Next 10 years, I'm going to be gone. Mike. Oh, no. You know they got cars that run on corn? What's up with that? Yeah, Rob. Yeah, and you're like French fry oil. Yeah. What the heck? That's a fry car. Okay. Bunch of fry cars out there. Are you a fill up at McDonald's? Yeah. What's up with this? Where do you get all the grease? Yeah, KFC. You stinky fat car. What am I, the Colonel? Eating all that junk food. That smells delicious. Gosh.
570-1053 is our number. You can call us at the beginning and end of every show. So call us right now. Yeah, do it. See what we're doing. Yeah. What are you up to? Skye, I wanted to talk about your spider story. Did you get bit? What happened? Well, yeah, but that's not even my spider story. You did get bit? Well, I woke up with a bite. I have a bite. Go to the hospital right now. But it's not that bad. Tell us about the car. Now that I scratched it. So, on Friday, okay, well, Friday, okay, we have black widows everywhere. Like, black widows are a problem in my house. I've never lived anywhere where black widows have been a problem like this. So, we have one that we haven't been able to catch in the garage. And so, Friday morning, I am walking out to my car and I see a web that, like, near my car and a big old black widow in it. Really? So, I grab a can of Raid. I spray the... Crap out of it. Leave it there for the hubby to dispose of later when he wakes up. So I'm cool. I'm like, yeah, I got the guy. Even though we've already killed like 10 in our garage. Driving home from work on Friday, the light hits just right. And I notice on my passenger side, a big old web going from the glove box all the way down to the floor.
Like a web like this. Inside your car? Inside my car. Yeah, that happened to me. Inside a car. And so I'm driving with my flip-flops on. Of course, I feel like something's crawling all over my toes. And I'm freaking out. And, you know, there's that little place behind the console where it kind of goes through. It's kind of like a little pass. You know, not that anybody uses it. But I'm like, I know that sucker's in that dark little area. So we tried all weekend. We got all the webs out. And we kept checking, trying to find. And nothing. So I know I'm driving around with a black widow in my car. You know what you should do? I know. It's inside your body. I have an idea. It probably is in this fight right now. I have an idea. That's where all its babies are, right in there. That's so gross. Believers. Oh, man. I have an idea. Oh, man. Why don't you fog your car? Yeah. With what? Fogger. Fogger. Well, then how am I going to drive in it? You just fog it and then leave it. Yeah. And then, you know. On the side of the road. Well, you do it. Like, why don't you do it if you did it when you got home and then you didn't drive again? toxic. I'd have to like let it air out for like a week. Yeah, yes. Of course. Why don't you do an all natural one? Hello. Hello. But yeah, so all this morning driving to work, freaking out. I feel like there's spiders like all over me. Get the perimeter spray. The stuff that you spray the perimeter house with. So keep it in the car? Yeah, just spray your car. Pow. You'll be fine. Blammo. Gross. Okay. 570-1053.
Xeo's on the line, right? Yeah, I'm in the house. What's up? Look at that. Xeo, what are you doing? Aw, man, you know, out here trying to make this money connect like hair weave. Aw, yeah. No. Holla. Whoa, I know you just did not say no to me, Edward. Who said that? Edward. Edward. Hey, come on, homeskill. Get back on the gravy, baby. Come on, man. Hang on. What'd you say? What'd you say? What'd you say? Hey, man, you know how I do with me. You know, trying to make, you know, stay on point like a pencil kit. You know what I mean? Oh, my God. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. That I do know. I'm full of them. I'm full of them. You know what I mean? I can keep on going. I keep it moving. What's going on, Ale? Nothing. I just want to call in, you know, chime in on the gas price thing and say, thank God for them because now a brother can roll around San Diego. You know, I got some petrol in the metro now. Nice. That's what we want. Hey, how's your car? I know you had gotten in an accident. Mike, we don't want to talk about it. I'm looking at leaving my car the way it is because it's paid off. Yeah, good credit in the house. There you go. Yeah, but hopefully I can get a motorcycle in January. You're getting a motorcycle? Yeah, you know, we'll see what happens. Hopefully. Come on, Santa. Come on, Santa. Ayo. Huh? Chantel. Uh-oh. Let's discuss. Let's discuss. I'd like to discuss. It's nothing. We're just cool. We're friends. We're cool.
Yeah. That's it. I promise. I wouldn't lie to you. I believe you. I feel you. I believe you. All right, all right. No love connection. That's all right. Yeah, we're just friends. It's her fault. It's all her fault. You don't know that. I do know. Did you guys just not, you guys figure out that you're better friends than anything more? Quite frankly and quite honestly, Mike, to tell you the truth, we just connected in our text message. You know, we talk here and there on the telephone, but nothing too serious. We haven't even hung out to do. Nah. Yeah. That's too bad. Yeah, so which means I need a date for Boo Bar, baby. Oh, yeah. Yeah. That's what I'm saying. Oh, nine. That's all I'm saying. That's right. Hey. All right, Ayo. That'd be easy. I got to roll out. Thanks for keeping it real. Yeah. What up, home skillet? Thank you. Yeah, where'd the third big bird I thought you heard? Wait. What's that? Can you never do that ever again? P1 Jester's online. Okay. Hi, Jester. Hey, Mikey, show how's it going today? Good. Hey, I wanted to give a big shout-out to B-Rob and Eddie for emceeing Blue Ball. It was the first one I ever went to, and I had a really great time. Nice. They had a good time, too. They were dressed as Dumb and Dumber. Whacking people with our canes. You know it, dude. I'm sure that must have been fun. Hilarious. Thank you, brother. I was the nurse joker. Oh, yeah. I remember you. The nurse joker. Thank you, dude. All right, well, yeah.
Well, yeah, I just wanted to say thanks, guys. It was really awesome, and I'm looking forward to it next year. Awesome, man. Peace. All right, have a good day, guys. See ya. Lovely and talented Missy is up next. Today, on the Nooner, she has double shots. Two in a row. From your favorites. So you'll love it. We will be back here tomorrow morning at 5.30. Do it all over again. The Mikey Show is... Love your mouth.
